Haemolysin production, the slide coagulase test and the tube coagulase test were assessed for their capability to differentiate Staphylococcus aureus among other Micrococcaceae in 199 isolates from udders of cows in herds with a low bulk milk somatic cell count. The API-Staph test was used as a reference.
Haemolysin production was less effective in identifying Staph. aureus among Micrococcaceae than a combination of other tests. Differences were found in the predictive values of results from diagnostic protocols in which the slide coagulase test was performed on all Micrococcaceae, or on β-haemolysin-negative Micrococcaceae only. Diagnostic protocols in which haemolysin production was combined with the results of the other tests resulted in excellent diagnostic performance and a reduction in diagnostic procedures. Recommendations for routine Staph. aureus identification in bovine mastitis bacteriology are given.  相似文献

This article describes a microbiological study carried out on lacón, a dry-cured meat product made in the north-west of Spain from the fore extremity of pig. Using classical methods, aerobic mesophilic flora, salt-tolerant flora, lactic acid bacteria, Enterobacteriaceae, enterococci, moulds and yeasts were enumerated, some physicochemical parameters (pH, aw and moisture and NaCl contents) were determined and a representative number of isolates of the salt-tolerant flora (the main microbial group) were identified during the manufacture of five batches. All the microbial groups, with the exception of Enterobacteriaceae and enterococci, reached maximum counts both on the surface and in the interior of the pieces at the end of the post-salting stage and afterwards progressively dropped during the drying-ripening stage. Staphylococcus xylosus, Staph. saprophyticus, Staph. simulans, Staph. sciuri and Micrococcus luteus were the main species isolated throughout manufacturing. This study will significantly increase knowledge of the microbiology of cured meat products made from entire pieces.  相似文献

Bacteriology of the oral cavity of BALB/c mice   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
To be used as a model in dental research, an animal must fulfil experimental needs and information on the composition and variation of its oral flora must be available. Only limited data are available on the indigenous oral bacterial flora of BALB/c mice. In this work, a total of 671 isolates from different sites (saliva, tongue, teeth, and mucosa) of the oral cavity of BALB/c mice were identified. Only 18 different species were isolated, which indicates the relative simplicity of the flora. The predominant species of the total cultivable flora were "Lactobacillus murinus" (38%), Staphylococcus aureus (37%), Streptococcus faecalis (8%), Staphylococcus sciuri (4%), and Escherichia coli (3%). The other species each represent less than 2% of the flora. "Lactobacillus murinus" is found in greater proportion on mucosa than in the other sites, Staph. aureus predominates in saliva, and Strep. faecalis was found in greater proportion in tooth samples. Statistical analyses, using the minimum percentage of similarity, indicate that there is some variation among the microflora of different mice but that this difference is smaller for mice from the same lot. These results set the basis for the study of the variations of the indigenous oral microflora of BALB/c mice under different conditions.  相似文献

The species identity of 661 strains of coagulase-negative staphylococci isolated from the skin and nares of cattle, pigs, poultry, goats and sheep was determined. They belonged either to the novobiocin-sensitive species Staphylococcus hyicus, Staph. simulans, Staph. epidermidis, Staph. haemolyticus and Staph. warneri or to the novobiocin-resistant species Staph. sciuri, Staph. lentus, Staph. xylosus, Staph. cohnii. Staph. saprophyticus and Staph. gallinarum ; twenty-one strains remained unidentified. The staphylococcal flora of the farm animals studied differed markedly from that associated with man; several species which do not occur in man were isolated and novobiocin-resistant strains, which occur infrequently in man, were present in large numbers in animals. The psychrotrotrophic flora of chicken carcases in 3 different industrial processing plants has been studied. The micro-organisms, 5920 strains, were placed in 4 categories (arranged in decreasing order of the number of isolates): (1), Pseudomonas and Achromobacter (Acineto-bacter) ; (2) Flavobacterium, Corynebacterium and yeasts; (3), Aeromonas and Entero-bacteriaceae; (4), lactic acid bacteria, Micrococcaceae and Bacillus . Different types of strains belonging to these groups are described and the importance of each is discussed with reference to the observations of other authors. The proteolytic action of 1717 of the 5920 isolates was studied.  相似文献

Whereas in water Staphylococcus aureus S6 had a decimal reduction time (D) value of 66 s at 55 degrees C, its D value in egg yolk at the same temperature was 246 s. In salted egg yolk (water activity, 0.95), S. aureus S6 had a D value of 180 s at 66 degrees C and was largely inactivated during the pasteurization processes currently applied. Micrococcus saprophyticus and S. epidermidis (D value of each under the same conditions, 390 s) could survive such treatments to a certain extent and can thus spoil commercial egg yolk.  相似文献

Samples were collected from 148 adult cats, processed for isolation of Staphylococcus species and tested for susceptibility to penicillin G, gentamicin, oxacillin, amoxycillin, ampicillin, cephalexin and rifampin. Methicillin resistance was also determined. Ninety-eight isolates were obtained (66% of samples). Coagulase-negative species were most common, and the most frequently isolated species (37 samples) was Staph. felis . Other coagulasenegative species, such as Staph. simulans , Staph. epidermidis and Staph. Saprophyticus were also isolated. Coagulase-positive species were obtained from 40 cats; the most frequent was Staph. intermedius (26 samples), followed by Staph. aureus (14 samples). Resistance to antibiotics was frequently observed, with 58·2% of the isolates showing resistance to at least one drug. Resistance to Penicillin G was observed in 49 of the 98 isolates (50%), 22 samples were resistant to oxacillin (22·4%) and 12 to rifampin (12·2%). Resistance to amoxycillin and ampicillin was very similar to that observed to Penicillin G. Gentamicin was the most active antimicrobial agent. Three MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus ) were isolated, which represents 21·4% of the isolates of that species. Nineteen MRS (methicillin resistant staphylococci) were also observed, distributed among Staph. intermedius (eight), Staph. simulans (six) and Staph. felis (five) isolates. The role of these micro-organisms on the skin of cats is discussed.  相似文献

S ummary . The microbial flora of the thigh adjacent to the vaginal labia and of the mucosal surface of the labia has been examined quantitatively and qualitatively in students from Colleges of Education and a University, and in persons attending a Consultant Gynaecologist for non-suppurative conditions. In the 2 student populations, members of the Micrococcaceae and diphtheroids were the most common organisms but all populations yielded many organisms of gut origin. Differences between the populations may relate to social and hygienic conditions and should make us wary of direct comparisons with other, different populations. The effect of intimate hygiene deodorants containing 0.01% or 0.02% of chlorhexidine was compared with a base spray containing no antibacterial agent. No significant effect of these sprays on the microbial flora could be demonstrated.  相似文献

Aims: To evaluate the in vitro activity of egg yolk immunoglobulin (IgY) against mastitis-causing Staphylococcus aureus. Methods and Results: Specific IgY was produced by immunizing hens with formaldehyde-killed Staph. aureus, using a bacterial strain known to cause mastitis. The IgY, of 94% purity, was obtained from yolks by water dilution, salt precipitations, ultrafiltration and gel filtration. ELISA indicated that the IgY produced was specific to the antigen and five Staph. aureus isolates obtained from mastitic cows. The growth of Staph. aureus was inhibited by specific IgY at concentrations from 1 to 10 mg ml−1 in a dose-dependent manner. The phagocytosis of Staph. aureus by milk macrophages was enhanced in the presence of specific IgY with the highest phagocytic percentage being 30% higher than that without IgY (P < 0·05). Conclusions: The specific IgY against mastitis-causing Staph. aureus inhibited the growth of Staph. aureus and enhanced the phagocytosis of Staph. aureus by milk macrophages. Significance and Impact of the Study: Specific IgY would be a potential treatment for bovine mastitis.  相似文献

采用常规方法研究了新疆塔里木盆地荒漠盐碱生境土壤放线菌区系、放线菌的耐盐、碱性及对植物病原真菌的拮抗性。结果表明:土壤放线菌区系较单一,仅分离到链霉菌属和拟诺卡氏菌属,其中以链霉菌属为主(98.57%),链霉菌可分10个类群,以白孢类群为优势类群。土壤含盐量愈高,链霉菌组成愈简单。放线菌的最适生长盐浓度多集中在6%~8%,最适生长pH集中在7~8。24株供试放线菌中,有4株中度嗜盐放线菌对供试靶标菌有拮抗性,占供试菌的16.67%。  相似文献

Samples were collected from 150 adult cats, processed for isolation of Staphylococcus species and tested for susceptibility to penicillin G, gentamicin, oxacillin, enrofloxin and tetracycline. Methicillin resistance was also determined. One hundred and four isolates were obtained (69.3% of samples). Coagulase-negative species were most common, and the most frequently isolated (33 samples) species was Staph. felis. Other coagulase-negative species, such as Staph. haemolyticus, Staph. simulans, Staph. epidermidis and Staph. saprophyticus were also isolated. Coagulase-positive staphylococci were obtained from 30 cats, and the only species recovered in this group was Staph. intermedius. Resistance to antibiotics was frequently observed, with 68.2% of the isolates showing resistance to at least one drug. Resistance to Penicillin G was observed in 68 of the 104 isolates (65.4%), 23 samples were resistant to oxacillin (22.1%), 33 to tetracycline (31.7%) and 24 to enrofloxin (23.1%). Gentamicin was the most active antimicrobial agent. The role of these microorganisms in the saliva of cats is discussed.  相似文献

目的 检测高血压大鼠肠道菌群的变化,探讨正常菌群在盐诱导高血压发生发展中的作用。方法 以8%高盐饮食喂养SD雄性大鼠制备高血压模型。Real-time PCR检测菌群结构的改变,同时检测血浆炎性因子IL-1β、IL-6和TNF-α水平变化。结果 同对照组大鼠血压(96.00 mmHg±5.74 mmHg)相比盐敏感组(122.79 mmHg±6.37 mmHg)显著升高,而盐抵抗组无明显变化;实验组大鼠体重(172.00 g±15.58 g,164.25 g±16.11g)较对照组(377.63 g±32.47 g)明显降低;同对照组相比实验组菌群结构发生比例倒置,即双歧杆菌(6.19±0.47,7.52±0.47 vs 8.59±0.42)、乳杆菌(6.77±0.23,7.09±0.28 vs 7.60±0.26)、拟杆菌(8.98±0.45,8.46±0.47 vs 9.99±0.73)数量降低;肠杆菌(7.93±0.20,7.78±0.29 vs 7.28±0.27)数量升高。同盐抵抗组大鼠相比,盐敏感组双歧杆菌、乳杆菌降低更加显著,但拟杆菌数量高于盐抵抗组。两实验组大鼠血浆细胞因子IL-1β、IL-6和TNF-α水平较对照组均显著升高(P<0.05)。结论 盐诱导高血压大鼠肠道菌群结构发生改变,盐敏感组双歧杆菌、乳杆菌和拟杆菌含量显著降低,提示其可能参与盐诱导高血压病程。  相似文献

The effect of hydration on Staphylococcus epidermidis, the predominant resident bacterial flora, was studied on skin affected by leprosy and known to have impaired sweating. Normal areas served as control. Significantly higher bacterial counts were observed in affected areas compared with normal-looking skin in 16/19 of the patients. Artificial application of Staph. epidermidis on leprosy-affected and unaffected areas, however, showed equivocal results, as in only 50% of the patients were higher counts obtained in affected compared with unaffected sites. S ummary . The microflora of liquid whole egg made by centrifuging incubator reject shell eggs was investigated by examining a selection of colonies growing on different selective culture media. As a result of the method of manufacture micro-organisms were present and of the 200 isolates characterized, most belonged to the Bacillaceae, Enterobacteriaceae, Lactobacillaceae, Micrococcaceae and Pseudomonadaceae. A pasteurization treatment showed the presence of a thermoresistant flora. Some representatives of the Bacillaceae and the Lactobacillaceae showed resistance to the heat treatment given.  相似文献

This study reviews the factors of pig production that impact the quality of dry-cured ham. When processing is standardized, the quality of the final dry-cured product is primarily determined by the quality of the meat before curing (green ham). This has been defined as the aptitude for seasoning and is determined by the green ham weight, adipose tissue quantity and quality, meat physico-chemical properties and the absence of visual defects. Various ante-mortem factors including pig age and weight, genetic type, diet, feeding strategy and slaughter conditions determine green ham properties such as the dynamics of water loss, salt intake and, as a consequence, proteolysis and lipolysis. Muscle conditions (pH, salt concentration, water content and availability, temperature) influence enzymatic activity and development of characteristic texture and flavor. Generally, hams of older and heavier pigs present better seasoning aptitude because of higher adiposity. Adiposity is also positively correlated with fat saturation, which is desired to avoid rancidity and oiliness. The fatty acid profile of tissue lipids can be manipulated by diet composition. Feeding strategy affects tissue accretion and protein turnover, thus directly impacting proteolysis. With respect to the impact of pig genotype on dry-cured ham quality, local breeds are generally considered more suitable for producing quality dry hams; however, the majority of dry-cured hams on the market today are from modern pig breeds raised in conventional systems, providing lean hams. The importance of all these factors of pig production is discussed and synthesized, with an emphasis on the main difficulties encountered in dry-cured ham production.  相似文献

AIMS: To study the bacterial diversity in expressed human milk with a focus on detecting bacteria with an antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, known as a causative agent of maternal breast infections and neonatal infections. METHODS AND RESULTS: Random isolates (n = 509) were collected from breast milk samples (n = 40) of healthy lactating women, genotypically identified, and tested for antimicrobial activity against Staph. aureus. Commensal staphylococci (64%) and oral streptococci (30%), with Staph. epidermidis, Strep. salivarius, and Strep. mitis as the most frequent isolates, were the predominant bacterial species in breast milk. One-fifth of Staph. epidermidis and half of Strep. salivarius isolates suppressed growth of Staph. aureus. Enterococci (Ent. faecalis), isolated from 7.5% of samples, and lactic acid bacteria (LAB) (Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lact. crispatus, Lactococcus lactis, Leuconoctoc mesenteroides), isolated from 12.5% of samples, were also effective against Staph. aureus. One L. lactis isolate was shown to produce nisin, a bacteriocin used in food industry to prevent bacterial pathogens and spoilage. CONCLUSIONS: Expressed breast milk contains commensal bacteria, which inhibit Staph. aureus. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The strains inhibitory against the pathogen Staph. aureus have potential use as bacteriotherapeutic agents in preventing neonatal and maternal breast infections caused by this bacterium.  相似文献

Human milk contains prebiotic oligosaccharides, which stimulate the growth of intestinal bifidobacteria and lactobacilli. It is unclear whether the prebiotic capacity of human milk contributes to the larger bile salt pool size and the more efficient fat absorption in infants fed human milk compared with formula. We determined the effect of prebiotic oligosaccharides on bile salt metabolism in rats. Rats were fed a control diet or an isocaloric diet containing a mixture of galactooligosaccharides (GOS), long-chain fructooligosaccharides (lcFOS), and acidified oligosaccharides (AOS) for 3 wk. We determined synthesis rate, pool size, and fractional turnover rate (FTR) of the primary bile salt cholate by using stable isotope dilution methodology. We quantified bile flow and biliary bile salt secretion rates through bile cannulation. Prebiotic intervention resulted in significant changes in fecal and colonic flora: the proportion of lactobacilli increased 344% (P < 0.01) in colon content and 139% (P < 0.01) in feces compared with the control group. The number of bifidobacteria also increased 366% (P < 0.01) in colon content and 282% in feces after the prebiotic treatment. Furthermore, pH in both colon and feces decreased significantly with 1.0 and 0.5 pH point, respectively. However, despite this alteration of intestinal bacterial flora, no significant effect on relevant parameters of bile salt metabolism and cholate kinetics was found. The present data in rats do not support the hypothesis that prebiotics naturally present in human milk contribute to a larger bile salt pool size or altered bile salt pool kinetics.  相似文献
