We compared carcass analysis and hydrogen isotope dilution methods to measure total body water (TBW) and body composition in a small altricial carnivore, the mink. Dilution space (D) of mink at 21-42 days of age (n=20), was determined after subcutaneous administration of tritiated water. The same animals were then used to determine TBW and body composition by carcass analysis and to derive predictive empirical relationships between TBW and total body fat, protein and energy. A separate validation set of 27 kits was used to test the accuracy of predicting body composition from TBW. D overestimated TBW by a consistent and predictable 4.1% (R(2)=0.999, P<0.001). Our estimates of fat, protein and energy content, using equations derived from TBW, were not significantly different than those obtained from direct carcass analysis (P>0.980) in either the initial or validation set of mink. TBW was shown to decrease from 81 to 76% and total body protein to increase from 14 to 19% of LBM of the kits from 21 to 42 days of age. Although a rapidly changing hydration state was apparent in neonates, we conclude that when this is taken into account, accurate estimates of body composition can be obtained from hydrogen isotope dilution.  相似文献

We examined body composition in barnacle geese (Branta leucopsis) by proximate carcass analysis and by deuterium isotope dilution. We studied the effect of isotope equilibration time on the accuracy of total body water (TBW) estimates and evaluated models to predict fat-free mass (FFM) and fat mass (FM) from different measurements varying in their level of invasiveness. Deuterium enrichment determined at 45, 90, and 180 min after isotope injection did not differ significantly. At all sampling intervals, isotope dilution spaces (TBW(d)) consistently overestimated body water determined by carcass analysis (TBW(c)). However, variance in the deviation from actual TBW was higher at the 45-min sampling interval, whereas variability was the same at 90 and 180 min, indicating that 90 min is sufficient time to allow for adequate equilibration. At 90 min equilibration time, deuterium isotope dilution overestimated TBW(c) by 7.1% +/= 2.6% (P < 0.001, paired t-test, n=20). This overestimate was consistent over the range of TBW studied, and TBW(c) could thus be predicted from TBW(d) (r2=0.976, P<0.001). Variation in TBW(c) and TBW(d) explained, respectively, 99% and 98% of the variation in FFM. FM could be predicted with a relative error of ca. 10% from TBW estimates in combination with body mass (BM). In contrast, BM and external body measurements allowed only poor prediction. Abdominal fat fresh mass was highly correlated to total FM and, if the carcass is available, allows simple means of fat prediction without dissecting the entire specimen.  相似文献

Two techniques for bleeding small mammals have been used in doubly-labeled water (DLW) studies, including vena puncture and the use of starved nymphal stages of hematophagous reduviid bugs (Reduviidae, Hemiptera). In this study, we tested the validity of using reduviid bugs in doubly-labeled water experiments. We found that the isotope enrichment in initial blood samples collected with bugs was significantly lower compared to isotope enrichment in blood samples obtained using vena puncture. We therefore used the desiccation method for estimating total body water (TBW) in DLW experiments because TBW calculated using the isotope dilution method was overestimated when blood samples were collected using reduviid bugs. In our validation experiment with nectar-feeding bats (Glossophaga soricina), we compared estimates of daily energy expenditure (DEE) using DLW with those derived from the energy balance method. We considered Speakman's equation (controlling for 25% fractionated water loss) as the most appropriate for our study animal and calculated DEE accordingly. On average, DEE estimated with DLW was not significantly different from the mean value obtained with the energy balance method (mean deviation 1.2%). We conclude that although bug hemolymph or intestinal liquids most likely contaminate the samples, estimates of DEE are still valid because the DLW method does not depend on absolute isotope enrichments but on the rate of isotope decrease over time. However, dilution of blood with intestinal liquids or hemolymph from a bug may lead to larger variation in DEE estimates. We also tested how the relative error of DLW estimates changed with varying assumptions about fractionation. We used three additional equations for calculating DEE in DLW experiments. The basic equation for DLW experiments published by Lifson and McClintock (LM-6) assumes no fractionation, resulted in an overestimate of DEE by 10%. Nagy's equation (N-2) controls for changes in body mass but not for fractionation. Using Nagy's equation, DEE was overestimated by 8%. Under the assumption that 50% of total water flux fractionates, the alternative equation by Lifson and McClintock (LM-35) DEE was underestimated by 5%. The best fit between estimates of DEE based on DLW and energy balance measurements was derived by assuming that 32% of total water flux (TWF) is fractionated. We conclude that the outcome of DLW experiments is sensitive to assumptions regarding evaporative water loss, and thus recommend Speakman's equation 7.17 for use with bats.  相似文献

Body composition in birds was evaluated indirectly by 18O and 2H dilution. Body composition was determined by whole-body chemical analysis of eight adult roosters (Gallus gallus). In vivo measurements of total body water (TBW) were carried out using doubly labeled water (2H2 18O). Estimated dilution spaces using both the plateau and intercept approaches were compared with the results obtained by carcass lyophilization. Both 18O and 2H slightly overestimated TBW compared with the results obtained by lyophilization, by 2.2%+/-1.9% and 5.7%+/-0.2%, respectively; both differences were statistically significant (P<0.01). The difference between these isotope estimations was significant (P<0.001). However, isotope dilution spaces and TBW were highly correlated. There was a strong inverse relationship between total body fat and TBW percentages (r2=0.98, P<0.0001). The relation between TBW and body protein was significant. Water content in lean body mass (72.8%) obtained in our study was very close to that reported in mammals, demonstrating no fundamental difference in tissue water content between birds and mammals. Estimated body fat and protein values from isotopic dilution did not significantly differ from values obtained by direct chemical analysis (P>0.05), except for body fat in the Pace and Rathbun approach (Table 3). Although estimation of TBW and body composition by isotope dilution is time consuming and expensive, deuterium offers a reliable and low-cost alternative compared with 18O. The advantage of in vivo estimation of TBW with isotopic dilution in combination with the regression approach is that it permits repeated measurements of body composition on the same birds under laboratory and free-living conditions.  相似文献

The maximal oxygen uptake (Vo2 max) and ergometer load at a heart rate of 170 beats/min (PWC170) were determined in mentally retarded children (74 boys and 53 girls) of ages 12-15, whose IQ ranged from 36 to 91, and the results were compared with those for normal children. Mentally retarded boys and girls showed significantly inferior body height and weight, but no significant difference was found in skinfold thickness. The mean value of PWC170 for boys and girls was 14.34 kpm/kg/min and 11.31 kpm/kg/min, respectively, significantly less than that of the normal group. The mentally retarded boys had mean VO2 max per unit body weight of 42.4 ml/kg/min, which was significantly less than the 51.2 ml/kg/min of normal boys. The mentally retarded girls had a mean of 33.1 ml/kg/min which was also less than the 41.3 ml/kg/min of normal girls. The correlation coefficient between body weight and PWC170 (kpm/min) was 0.711 and 0.720 for boys and girls, respectively, while that between body weight and VO2 max (liter/min) was 0.641 for boys and 0.656 for girls. No significant correlation was found between IQ and PWC170 (kpm/kg/min) nor between IQ and VO2 max (ml/kg/min) both for boys and for girls. Similarly, no significant correlation was found between mental age and the VO2 max value (ml/kg/min).  相似文献

The body composition of living gray seals (Halichoerus grypus) can be accurately predicted from a two-step model that involves measurement of total body water (TBW) by 2H or 3H dilution and application of predictive relationships between body components and TBW that were derived empirically by slaughter chemical analysis. TBW was overestimated by both 2HHO and 3HHO dilution; mean overestimates were 2.8 +/- 0.9% (SE) with 2H and 4.0 +/- 0.6% with 3H. The relationships for prediction of total body fat (TBF), protein (TBP), gross energy (TBGE), and ash (TBA) were as follows: %TBF = 105.1 - 1.47 (%TBW); %TBP = 0.42 (%TBW) - 4.75; TBGE (MJ) = 40.8 (mass in kg) - 48.5 (TBW in kg) - 0.4; and TBA (kg) = 0.1 - 0.008 (mass in kg) + 0.05 (TBW in kg). These relationships are applicable to gray seals of both sexes over a wide range of age and body conditions, and they predict the body composition of gray seals more accurately than the predictive equations derived from ringed seals (Pusa hispida) (Stirling et al., Can. J. Zool. 53: 1021-1027, 1975) and from the equation of Pace and Rathbun (J. Biol. Chem. 158: 685-691, 1945), which has been reported to be generally applicable to mammals.  相似文献

This article reports a study in which the equation for total body water (TBW) estimated from deuterium (2H2O)-dilution method and bioelectrical impedance measurement (BIM) is described. Subjects were 60 healthy males aged 30 +/- 18.3 yr (18-74) and 31 healthy females aged 37 +/- 17.5 yr (19-70). Total body water determined by the analysis of the dilution of orally ingested deuterium oxide (1g2H2O, 99.75 atom % excess/kg body weight) in urine. Bioelectrical impedance was measured for each subjects in a supine position using an electrical impedance analyzer (500 microA, 50kHz, T-1988K, Toyo Physical Inc.) with a four electrodes (Y-250, Nihon Kohden). The mean values of total body water and the impedance in males and females subjects were 34.1 +/- 4.27 l and 25.7 +/- 2.42 l, 567 +/- 28.5 omega and 562 +/- 32.5 omega, respectively. Height squared divided by resistance (Ht2/R) correlated well with TBW as measured by 2H2 O, r = 0.530 (p less than 0.001) in males and r = 0.782 (p less than 0.001) in females. The best-fitting regression equation to predict TBW comprised Ht2/R(X1) and body weight (X2) (R = 0.915, SEE = 1.70 l in males and R = 0.834, SEE = 1.28 l in females). Equations were provided with BIM instrument for the prediction of TBW: for males TBW, l = 0.1983X1 + 0.4004X2 - 0.7938 and for females TBW, l = 0.3536X1 + 0.1269X2 + 3.3417. These results suggest that bioelectrical impedance measurement is a useful measure of total body water in Japanese subjects.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to construct new Croatian growth charts for body height and weight of boys and girls aged 6.5 to 18.5 years and to investigate differences between our and pre-existing studies. Analysis was based on a multistage stratified sample representative for school children aged 6.5 to 18.5, 6046 boys and 5656 girls. Growth reference was constructed using LMS method. Present results demonstrated an increment of body height and weight during the last two decades. Highest increase of body height is in boys aged 13-14 years 6.5 cm, in girls aged 12 years is 5.0 cm. Highest increase of body weight is in 16 year age group of boys 8.7 kg and in 11-12 year age group of girls 5.2 kg. In conclusion, regarding presence of secular trend because previously used growth charts in Croatia are obsolete.  相似文献

Maximal oxygen uptake (Vo2 max) of 85 healthy kindergarten children, 46 boys and 39 girls, aged 5 and 6 years, was determined by means of track running. Their physique, skinfold thickness, grip and back muscle strength, and performances of 25 m-run, 50 m-run, standing broad jump, and 5 min-endurance run were also measured. Skinfold thickness of girls was significantly larger than that of boys. Boys were significantly superior to girls in all the motor performances. The Vo2 max per unit of body weight was 49.46 ml/kg/min for boys and 46.30 ml/kg/min for girls, the sex difference being significant at the 0.001 level. The correlation coefficient between Vo2 max per kg body weight and 5 min-endurance run performance was 0.417 for boys and 0.049 for girls, while that between absolute Vo2 max and body weight was 0.899 for boys and 0.563 for girls. The regression equation of the absolute value of Vo2 max (liter/min) on body weight (kg) was: Y=0.051X-0.025 for boys and Y=0.024 + 0.408 for girls, the regression coefficient of boys being twice as large as that of girls. It appears that at ages 5-6 sex differences are exhibited ont only in muscle strength and agility but also in endurance run and aerobic work capacity.  相似文献

Arm span and standing height were measured in 289 boys and 337 girls aged 6-15 years who were free from physical deformities which can affect stature or arm span. The arm span exceeded height in all age groups of boys and in older girls. At the age of 7, 11 and 12 years girls were significantly taller than the boys and had longer arm span while at the age of 15 years, the trend was opposite. The mean difference between the two anthropometric parameters for boys was 5.45 +/- 4.21 cm (t = 3.556, p < 0.001) and for girls was 4.94 +/- 4.96 cm (t = 3.542, p < 0.001). Correlation coefficient between height and arm span measurements for Malawian boys was 0.983 and for girls was 0.986. Height, arm span and height-arm span difference increased with age of children while height to arm span ratio decreased. The gender difference in height-arm span differences was only significant at the age of 15 years. Multiple regression and cross validation were performed. Height of Malawian children of both sexes can be estimated from equation: Height (cm) = 15.756 + (0.168 x age) + (0.839 x arm span) (SEE = 0.760, R2 = 0.988).  相似文献

Objective: To evaluate the 2‐year changes in body composition of white and African American boys and girls. Research Methods and Procedures: A total of 114 boys and girls ages 12 to 14 years with equal sex and ethnic distribution between African American and white races participated in measurements of body composition using DXA, underwater weighing (densitometry), skinfold thickness, corporal diameters, circumferences, isotope dilution (H218O), and bioelectric impedance. Results: Sixty‐eight of the 114 children advanced from Tanner Stages 1 and 2 to Tanner Stages 3 to 5 over a 2‐year period. More than 50% of the children were in the top 15th percentile according to normative data for body mass index but not for triceps skinfold. All measures except for percentage of fat, density, and four of the six skinfolds increased significantly during the 2 years, with no differences between races, genders, or fat group. The boys who advanced in Tanner Stage reduced their percentage of fat and a number of skinfolds and increased their lean body mass, but the girls did not. The percentage of water was significantly higher in the fatter children and declined significantly over 2 years. Most children remained in the same quartile of body fat, lean body mass, and bone mineral content over 2 years. Discussion: The data are consistent with the hypothesis that over 2 years, growth is the major determinant of changing body composition, with body‐fat group and sexual maturation being additional variables.  相似文献

An attempt was made to develop simple, inexpensive, rapid means of determining body composition in Antarctic fur seals ( Arctocephalus gazella ). Measurements of total body water ( TBW ) and total body lipid ( TBL ), obtained by hydrogen isotope dilution, were compared to the results of bioelectrical impedance analysis ( BIA ) and morphometric indices of body condition in 52 adult females. TBW was weakly correlated with BIA measurements of resistance ( v = -0.30, P < 0.03). Conductor volume (length2/resistance) was more highly correlated with TBW ( r = 0.75, P < 0.0001) and the inclusion of mass into the predictive equation improved the correlation further ( r = 0.95, P < 0.0001). A body condition index (mass/length) previously used in pinniped studies was positively correlated to TBL ( r = 0.77, P < 0.0001) validating its use as a relative index of condition. However, body mass alone was highly correlated to TBW ( r = 0.94, P < 0.0001) and appears to provide a simple, rapid means of estimating body composition in adult females. This technique may also be applicable to juvenile male Antarctic fur seals.  相似文献

Scaling peak VO2 to body mass in young male and female distance runners.   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
This study examined age- and sex-associated variation in peak oxygen consumption (VO2) of young male and female distance runners from an allometric scaling perspective. Subjects were from two separate studies of 9- to 19-yr-old distance runners from the mid-Michigan area, one conducted between 1982 and 1986 (Young Runners Study I, YRS I) and the other in 1999-2000 (Young Runners Study II, YRS II). Data from 27 boys and 27 girls from YRS I and 48 boys and 22 girls from the YRS II were included, and a total of 139 and 108 measurements of body size and peak VO2 in boys and girls, respectively, were available. Subjects were divided into whole year age groups. A 2 x 9 (sex x age group) ANOVA was used to examine differences in peak VO2. Intraindividual ontogenetic allometric scaling was determined in 20 boys and 17 girls measured annually for 3-5 yr. Allometric scaling factors were calculated using linear regression of log-transformed data. Results indicated that 1) absolute peak VO2 increases with age in boys and girls, 2) relative peak VO2 (ml x kg(-1) x min(-1)) remains relatively stable in boys and in girls, 3) relative peak VO2 (ml x kg(-0.75) x min(-1)) increases throughout the age range in boys and increases in girls until age 15 yr, and 4) peak VO2 adjusted for body mass (ml/min) increases with age in boys and girls. The overall mean cross-sectional scaling factor was 1.01 +/- 0.03 (SE) in boys and 0.85 +/- 0.05 (SE) in girls. Significant age x sex interactions and significant scaling factors between sexes identify the progressive divergence of peak VO2 between adolescent male and female distance runners. Mean ontogenetic allometric scaling factors were 0.81 [0.71-0.92, 95% confidence interval (CI)] and 0.61 (0.50-0.72, 95% CI) in boys and girls, respectively (P = 0.002). There was considerable variation in individual scaling factors (0.51-1.31 and 0.28-0.90 in boys and girls, respectively). The results suggest that the interpretation of growth-related changes in peak VO2 of young distance runners is dependent upon the manner of expressing peak VO2 relative to body size and/or the statistical technique employed.  相似文献

The ability to accurately estimate fat mass and fat-free mass (FFM) has the potential to improve the way in which sow body condition can be managed in a breeding herd. Bioelectrical impedance spectroscopy (BIS) has been evaluated as a practical technique for assessment of body composition in several livestock species, but similar work is lacking in sows. Bioelectrical impedance uses population-specific algorithms that require values for the apparent resistivities of body fluids and body proportion factors. This study comprised three major aims: (i) to derive apparent resistivity coefficients for extracellular water (ECW) and intracellular water (ICW) required for validation of BIS predictions of total body water (TBW) in live sows against standard reference tracer dilution methods; (ii) to develop predictions of TBW to body composition prediction algorithms, namely FFM, by developing a body geometry correction factor (Kb) and (iii) to compare the BIS predictions of FFM against existing impedance predictors and published prediction equations for use in sows, based on physical measurements of back-fat depth and BW (P2-based predictors). Whole body impedance measurements and the determination of TBW by deuterium dilution and ECW by bromide dilution were performed on 40 Large White x Landrace sows. Mean apparent resistivity coefficients of body fluids were 431.1 Ω.cm for ECW and 1827.8 Ω.cm for ICW. Using these coefficients, TBW and ECW were over-estimated by 6.5 and 3.3%, respectively, compared to measured reference values, although these differences were not statistically different (P > 0.05). Mean Kb was 1.09 ± 0.14. Fat-free mass predictions were 194.9 kg, which equates to 60.9% of total sow weight, and 183.0 kg for BIS and the deuterium dilution method, respectively. Mean differences between the predicted and measured FFM values ranged from − 8.2 to 32.7%, but were not statistically different (P > 0.05). Method validation (leave-one-out procedure) revealed that mean differences between predicted and measured values were not statistically significant (P > 0.05). Of the impedance-based predictors, equivalence testing revealed that BIS displayed the lowest test bias of 11.9 kg (8.2%), although the P2-based prediction equations exhibited the lowest bias and percentage equivalence, with narrow limits of agreement. Results indicate although differences between mean predicted and measured values were not significantly different, relatively wide limits of agreement suggest BIS as an impractical option for assessing body composition in individual sows compared to the use of existing prediction equations based on BW and back fat.  相似文献

Body composition methods were examined in 20 women [body mass index (BMI) 48.7 +/- 8.8 kg/m(2)] before and after weight loss [-44.8 +/- 14.6 (SD) kg] after gastric bypass (GBP) surgery. The reference method, a three-compartment (3C) model using body density by air displacement plethysmography and total body water (TBW) by H(2)18O dilution (3C-H(2)18O), showed a decrease in percent body fat (%BF) from 51.4 to 34.6%. Fat-free mass hydration was significantly higher than the reference value (0.738) in extreme obesity (0.756; P < 0.001) but not after weight reduction (0.747; P = 0.16). %BF by H(2)18O dilution and air displacement plethysmography differed significantly from %BF by 3C-H(2)18O in extreme obesity (P < 0.05) and 3C models using (2)H(2)O or bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) to determine TBW improved mean %BF estimates over most other methods at both time points. BIA results varied with the equation used, but BIA better predicted %BF than did BMI at both time points. All methods except BIA using the Segal equation were comparable to the reference method for determining changes over time. A simple 3C model utilizing air displacement plethysmography and BIA is useful for clinical evaluation in this population.  相似文献

The purposes of this study were to develop and cross-validate the "best" prediction equations for estimating fat-free body mass (FFB) from bioelectrical impedance in children and youth. Predictor variables included height2/resistance (RI) and RI with anthropometric data. FFB was determined from body density (underwater weighing) and body water (deuterium dilution) (FFB-DW) and from age-corrected density equations, which account for variations in FFB water and bone content. Prediction equations were developed using multiple regression analyses in the validation sample (n = 94) and cross-validated in three other samples (n = 131). R2 and standard error of the estimate (SEE) values ranged from 0.80 to 0.95 and 1.3 to 3.7 kg, respectively. The four samples were then combined to develop a recommended equation for estimating FFB from three regression models. R2 and SEE values and coefficients of variation from these regression equations ranged from 0.91 to 0.95, 2.1 to 2.9 kg, and 5.1 to 7.0%, respectively. As a result of all cross-validation analyses, we recommend the equation FFB-DW = 0.61 RI + 0.25 body weight + 1.31, with a SEE of 2.1 kg and adjusted R2 of 0.95. This study demonstrated that RI with body weight can predict FFB with good accuracy in Whites 10-19 yr old.  相似文献

The influence of physical activity on body mass components has been studied using a sample of Moscow children. 195 girls and 259 boys of Russian ethnicity from 12 to 17 years old were investigated cross-sectionally in 2005 in different Moscow schools. According to the level of physical activity they were divided into three groups: 1-those who did not take part in regular physical exercise (44 boys and 50 girls); 2-those who took part in special sports programs in general education schools (82 boys and 82 girls); 3-students of special sports schools with a high sports ranking (133 boys and 63 girls). The program included anthropometric measurements, evaluation of sexual maturation indices, somatotypes, and "functional" traits (diastolic and systolic blood pressure, pulse rate, hand grip, etc). For the study of body composition, bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) was used. The estimates of body mass components were also calculated using the anthropometric measurements. For the fat component, the estimates obtained by BIA and the anthropometric methods were highly correlated: r=0.85-0.88. Age changes of BIA measurements and body components were analysed. With multiple regression analysis it was shown that BIA measurements are dependent on a great number of morphological and functional traits, with the most informative sets of traits being selected. The degree of physical activity has a strong effect on body components: the contents of fat-free mass (FFM) and total body water (TBW) significantly increase, and the fat mass (FM) in girls decreases.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to develop an equation to predict VO2max from a submaximal elliptical cross-trainer test. Fifty-four apparently healthy subjects (25 men and 29 women, mean +/- SD age: 29.5 +/- 7.1 years, height: 173.3 +/- 12.6 cm, weight: 72.3 +/- 7.9 kg, percent body fat: 17.3 +/- 5.0%, and elliptical cross-trainer VO2max: 43.9 +/- 7.2 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1)) participated in the study and were randomly assigned to an original sample group (n = 40) and a cross-validation group (n = 14). Each subject completed an elliptical cross-trainer submaximal (3 5-minute submaximal stages) and a VO2max test on the same day, with a 15-minute rest period in between. Stepwise multiple regression analyses were used to develop an equation for estimating elliptical cross-trainer VO2max from the data of the original sample group. The accuracy of the equation was tested by using data from the cross-validation group. Because there was no shrinkage in R2 between the original sample group and the cross-validation group, data were combined in the final prediction equation (R2 = 0.732, standard error of the estimate = 3.91 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1), p < 0.05): VO2max = 73.676 + 7.383(gender) - 0.317(weight) + 0.003957(age x cadence) - 0.006452(age x heart rate at stage 2). The correlation coefficient between the predicted and measured VO2max values was r = 0.86. Dependent t-tests resulted in no significant differences (p > 0.05) between predicted (43.8 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1)) and measured (43.9 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1)) VO2max measurements. Results indicate that the protocol and equation developed in the current study can be used by exercise professionals to provide acceptably accurate estimates of VO2max in non-laboratory-based settings.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy, precision, and bias of fat mass (FM) as assessed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), hydrostatic weighing (HW), air-displacement plethysmography (PM) using the BOD POD body composition system and total body water (TBW) against the four-compartment (4C) model in 25 children (11.4 +/- 1.4 yr). The regression between FM by the 4C model and by DXA deviated significantly from the line of identity (FM by 4C model = 0.84 x FM by DXA + 0.95 kg; R(2) = 0.95), as did the regression between FM by 4C model and by TBW (FM by 4C model = 0. 85 x FM by TBW - 0.89 kg; R(2) = 0.98). The regression between FM by the 4C model and by HW did not significantly deviate from the line of identity (FM by 4C model = 1.09 x FM by HW + 0.94 kg; R(2) = 0. 95) and neither did the regression between FM by 4C (using density assessed by PM) and by PM (FM by 4C model = 1.03 x FM by PM + 0.88; R(2) = 0.97). DXA, HW, and TBW all showed a bias in the estimate of FM, but there was no bias for PM.
