The anatomy and histology of pouched mouse ovaries were studied during the oestrous cycle, pregnancy and lactation along with the relationship between the ovarian structures and circulating concentrations of progesterone. The structure of the ovaries resembled that of most rodents. Follicular development indicated that ovulation takes place on the night between pro-oestrus and oestrus, i.e. at the time when mating normally occurs. Corpora lutea were accumulating in cyclic females, while successively disappearing during pregnancy, leaving only the set formed after conception. After parturition luteal regression was rapid. Theca interna, included in the corpora lutea, formed glandular stromal tissue after regression of the luteal tissue formed from granulosa cells. The progesterone profile of non-pregnant females indicated a short but functional luteal phase (peak at metoestrus) during the cycle. During pregnancy three peaks of progesterone stood out: (1) when implantation starts, (2) when older sets of corpora lutea showed rejuvenation and placental signs were found in the vaginal smears, and (3) 3 days before expected parturition when luteal development (as judged by histology) reached a peak. The placenta may participate in but not 'take over' the progesterone production during later stages of pregnancy. Very low concentrations of peripheral progesterone during lactation and a very low level of follicular development at that time support an earlier suggestion of a lactational anoestrus in pouched mice.  相似文献

The effects of active immunization against progesterone on reproductive activity were studied in Merino ewes. Immunization against progesterone caused a shortening (P less than 0.01) of the interval between ovulations from 17-18 days (controls) to between 6 and 10 days (immunized group); this was associated with a corresponding reduction in the interval between LH surges. The immunized ewes also had higher (P less than 0.05) ovulation rates (1.72) than controls (1.25) and exhibited a reduced (P less than 0.01) incidence of oestrus (26% v. 95%). Many immunized ewes continued to ovulate despite the persistence of corpora lutea from earlier ovulations which led to an accumulation on the ovaries of many corpora lutea of different ages. The frequency of LH pulses in ewes immunized against progesterone (1.8 +/- 0.2 pulses/4 h) was significantly (P less than 0.001) higher than that of control ewes (0.3 +/- 0.1 pulses/4 h). This study highlights the importance of progesterone in the control of oestrus, ovulation, ovulation rate, luteal regression and the secretion of LH in the ewe.  相似文献

Jugular blood samples were obtained from 8 mares at 5- and/or 20-min intervals for 2 to 5 days during various phases of the oestrous cycle for plasma LH determination. An episodic release pattern was observed in 1 of 3 mares sampled during the ovulatory period. One mare had one secretory burst and the other mare had several periods of fluctuating plasma LH concentration. During dioestrus, episodic secretions were observed in 2 mares sampled 11 to 13 days before and, in 1 mare, 9 days after ovulation. During the 2 to 5-day period before ovulation, episodic secretion was not observed (3 mares) but plasma LH concentrations fluctuated as much as 6 ng/ml during a period of 3--4 h. Daily plasma samples were obtained form 10 mares (1--8 oestrous cycles/mare) during which 22 single, 18 double and 2 luteal-phase ovulations occurred. Dioestrous ovulations were accompanied by small increases in plasma LH (1--4 ng/ml), but many similar increases in LH were not accompanied by ovulation. No significant differences in secretory patterns were observed between single and multiple ovulations. In one mare, 4 ovulations occurred in the presence of a prolonged luteal phase; 3 were accompanied by increasing LH concentrations and the other occurred when LH was at a low concentration.  相似文献

The Catalonian donkey breed is in danger of extinction, and much needs to be learned about the reproductive features of its females if breeding and conservation programmes are to be successful. This study reports the oestrous behaviour, oestrus cycle characteristics and dynamic ovarian events witnessed during 50 oestrous cycles (involving 106 ovulations) in 10 Catalonian jennies between March 2002 and January 2005. These jennies were teased, palpated transrectally and examined by ultrasound using a 5 MHz linear transducer-daily during oestrus and every other day during dioestrus. Predictors of ovulation were sought among the variables recorded. The most evident signs of oestrus were mouth clapping (the frequent vertical opening and closing of the mouth with ears depressed against the extended neck) and occasional urinating and winking of the vulval lips (homotypical behaviour). Interactions between jennies in oestrus were also recorded, including mounting, herding/chasing, the Flehmen response, and vocalization (heterotypical behaviour). Nine jennies ovulated regularly throughout the year; one had two anovulatory periods (54 and 35 days). The length of the oestrus cycle was 24.90 +/- 0.26 days, with oestrus itself lasting 5.64 +/- 0.20 days (mean +/- S.E.M.) and dioestrus 19.83 +/- 0.36 days. The incidence of single, double and triple ovulations was 55.66% (n=59), 42.45% (n=45) and 1.89% (n=2), respectively. No significant difference was seen in the number of ovulations involving the left and right ovaries (52.63% [n=70] compared to 47.37% [n=63] respectively; P>0.05). The mean interval between double ovulation was 1.44 +/- 3.98 days. The mean diameter of the preovulatory follicle at day -1 was 44.9 +/- 0.5 mm; the mean growth rate over the 5 days before ovulation was 3.7 mm/day. Data on preovulatory changes in oestrous behaviour, follicle size, follicle texture, the echographic appearance of the follicle and uterus, and uterine tone were subjected to stepwise logistic regression analysis to detect predictors of ovulation. The logit function showed the best predictors to be follicle size, follicular texture and oestrous behaviour. Certain combinations of these three variables allow the prediction of ovulation within 24 h with a probability of >75%.  相似文献

The present experiment was designed to examine whether changes occur during the course of behavioural oestrus in the sensitivity of the female to copulatory stimulation and in patterns of sexual behaviour which might influence the likelihood of luteal maintenance. Cyclic female rats were mated on the evening of pro-oestrus (21:00 h) or early on the morning of oestrus (05:00 h) and received either 5 or 10 intromissions from males under conditions which allowed or did not allow pacing of contacts with males to occur. During mating, the levels of sexual receptivity, the timing of sexual mounts from males, and pacing behaviours were measured. The occurrence of pseudopregnancy or pregnancy in each animal was determined by examining vaginal smears for 14 days after mating and by examining the uterus for the presence of fetuses at the end of the experiment. At both mating times, pacing of copulation with males increased the likelihood of prolonged luteal activity. However, females were more likely to become pseudopregnant following non-paced mating at 05:00 h than at 21:00 h the previous evening. Of those females receiving an ejaculation during mating, no difference were seen between groups in the incidence of pregnancy. This change in sensitivity to cervical-vaginal stimulation during oestrus was not associated with changes in sexual receptivity or pacing behaviour. The ability of cervical-vaginal stimulation to induce pseudopregnancy therefore increases toward the end of the period of oestrus, but the behavioural mechanisms which regulate receipt of such stimulation remain constant during that time.  相似文献

Mature nonlactating British Saanen and Toggenburg does with a body score 2 were fed 25% (n=24) and 100% (n=16) maintenance rations from about 19 days before mating until slaughter at approximately 60 days after mating. Estrus was synchronized using PGF(2alpha), and the ovulation rate was determined by laparoscopic examination of the ovaries once between Days 6 and 10 after mating. Pregnancy rate, potential kidding rate and embryo loss were determined by counts of viable fetuses at slaughter. The proportion of does in estrus within 96 hours of PGF(2alpha) administration was not different (P<0.5) between the feed-restricted and the maintenance groups (71.0% and 87.5%, respectively); however, the time of onset of estrus after PGF(2alpha) tended to be longer (P=0.12) in the feed-restricted group. Ovulation rate, incidence of multiple ovulations and proportion of does pregnant at 60 days were significantly lower (P=0.0004, P=0.025, P=0.05, respectively) in the restricted group. More embryos from single than multiple ovulations were lost in the restricted group (P=0.01). There was no difference in the overall ovulatory activity between right and left ovaries in the 2 groups. Transuterine migrations were observed in all does that had unilateral multiple ovulations. No migration was observed in does which had single ovulations. These data indicate that restricted feed intake in goats tended to delay the onset of estrus and lowered the ovulation rate, incidence of multiple ovulations, and pregnancy rate.  相似文献

Observations of the behaviour of squirrel monkeys, including 8 opposite-sex pairs during daily 30-min social encounters and 2 mixed-sex permanent groups during daily 30-min observation sessions, over a 14-month period were used to determine the periodicity of the oestrous cycle and annual mating season. The median and modal length of the oestrous cycle was 8 days, within which copulations were limited to a 1--2 day period. In a cyclic female, plasma progesterone levels over a 24-day period dropped from 85--151 ng/ml to 25 ng/ml 2 days before oestrus. In non-cyclic females plasma progesterone values were less than 15-4 ng/ml. Males exhibited a 6-8--19-7 week 'season' of copulation and ejaculation. The onset of this 'mating season' in August coincided with the annual peak in male body weight (the 'fatted male' phenomenon).  相似文献

Ultrasonography was used to monitor the growth, ovulation and regression of individual ovarian follicles greater than or equal to 5 mm during the late luteal and follicular phases of the oestrous cycle in heifers treated with injections of PGF-2 alpha to induce luteolysis and in heifers undergoing spontaneous luteolysis. Six heifers were given a single injection of PGF-2 alpha between Day 12 and 15 of the oestrous cycle and their ovaries were examined daily by transrectal ultrasonography until ovulation occurred. Another group of 5 heifers was examined daily by ultrasound from Day 14 or 15 of the cycle through spontaneous luteolysis and ovulation. Blood samples were taken twice daily from this group and analysed for progesterone to determine when luteolysis occurred. All heifers were checked for oestrous behaviour twice daily. Mean diameters of ovulatory follicles on each of the 3 days before oestrus were not different between PGF-2 alpha-treated and untreated heifers. In both groups there was large variation among heifers in the sizes and growth rates of the ovulatory follicles. At 3 days before oestrus the diameters of ovulatory follicles were between 7.5 and 11 mm in PGF-2 alpha-treated heifers and between 6 and 11.5 mm in untreated heifers. Non-ovulatory follicles decreased in size during the 3 days before oestrus and the number of non-ovulatory follicles within the size ranges of ovulatory follicles decreased. The ovulatory follicle was not consistently the largest follicle on the ovaries until the day of oestrus but was always one of the 2 largest follicles during the 3 days before oestrus.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

In nearly all animals from a laboratory breeding colony that were examined (85/86) the right ovary was significantly larger than the left. Although primordial follicles were present in both ovaries, Graafian follicles and CL were noted only in the right ovary. The left ovary usually had a much less prominent intraovarian vascular supply, and it is suggested that this may play a central role in limiting the ability of follicles to grow on that side. Many of the bats examined very soon after the introduction of stud males had well-developed CL, sometimes of 2-3 different ages, and uteri that had probably been subjected to stimulation by luteal hormones. Such observations made on females that had been housed with a stud male only for 24 h indicate that the black mastiff bat is a spontaneous ovulator with a functional luteal phase. It was common to observe an extended period after the introduction of a stud male during which spermatozoa were present in the vaginal smears from a female almost every day. Most of the ovulations that resulted in pregnancies appear to have occurred during this period. Of the 72 bats with CL, 11 possessed 2 or more CL of the same age, indicating that multiple ovulations can sometimes take place. The right ovaries of all females examined during advanced pregnancy had non-atretic, vesicular or Graafian follicles in addition to the CL of pregnancy.  相似文献

Female brush-tailed bettongs (Bettongia penicillata) housed in a breeding group of one male and one to three females had an average gestation period of 21.2 days (n = 58) and parturition was followed within 24 h by oestrus and mating. If a young was not born as a result of the mating, oestrus recurred after about 21.7 days (n = 12). From removal of pouch young to birth was 17.5 days, on average (n = 85), in females that had mated post partum, but most females that were isolated from a male before parturition returned to oestrus about 6.6 days after simultaneous removal of pouch young and return to the male (n = 9). Females housed in female-only groups appeared not to come into oestrus or to do so irregularly. These females, when returned to the male, usually came into oestrus within 10 days. These data provide evidence that, in most females of B. penicillata, ovulation does not occur in the absence of a male and that previously isolated females return to oestrus within 10 days of return to the male.  相似文献

Romney ewes were injected intramuscularly once or twice daily for 3 days with 0, 0.1, 0.5, 1 or 5 ml of bovine follicular fluid (bFF) treated with dextran-coated charcoal, starting immediately after injection of cloprostenol to initiate luteolysis on Day 10 of the oestrous cycle. There was a dose-related suppression of plasma concentrations of FSH, but not LH, during the treatment period. On stopping the bFF treatment, plasma FSH concentrations 'rebounded' to levels up to 3-fold higher than pretreatment values. The mean time to the onset of oestrus was also increased in a dose-related manner by up to 11 days. The mean ovulation rates of ewes receiving 1.0 ml bFF twice daily (1.9 +/- 0.2 ovulations/ewe, mean +/- s.e.m. for N = 34) or 5.0 ml once daily (2.0 +/- 0.2 ovulations/ewe, N = 25) were significantly higher than that of control ewes (1.4 +/- 0.1 ovulations/ewe, N = 35). Comparison of the ovaries of ewes treated with bFF for 24 or 48 h with the ovaries of control ewes revealed no differences in the number or size distribution of antral follicles. However, the large follicles (greater than or equal to 5 mm diam.) of bFF-treated ewes had lower concentrations of oestradiol-17 beta in follicular fluid, contained fewer granulosa cells and the granulosa cells had a reduced capacity to aromatize testosterone to oestradiol-17 beta and produce cyclic AMP when challenged with FSH or LH. No significant effects of bFF treatment were observed in small (1-2.5 mm diam.) or medium (3-4.5 mm diam.) sized follicles. Ewes receiving 5 ml bFF once daily for 27 days, from the onset of luteolysis, were rendered infertile during this treatment period. Oestrus was not observed and ovulation did not occur. Median concentrations of plasma FSH fell to 20% of pretreatment values within 2 days. Thereafter they gradually rose over the next 8 days to reach 60% of pretreatment values where they remained for the rest of the 27-day treatment period. Median concentrations of plasma LH increased during the treatment period to levels up to 6-fold higher than pretreatment values. When bFF treatment was stopped, plasma concentrations of FSH and LH quickly returned to control levels, and oestrus was observed within 2 weeks. The ewes were mated at this first oestrus and each subsequently delivered a single lamb.  相似文献

Menstrual cycle characteristics of seasonally breeding rhesus monkeys   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Rhesus monkeys in seminatural environments exhibit a distinct seasonal mating cycle with conceptions restricted to the fall and winter months. In the present study, the characteristics of menstrual cycles were examined during a 1-year period in twelve rhesus monkeys in whom pregnancy was prevented. Menses occurred throughout the year, but ovulations were observed only in the fall and winter months. Menses in the spring and summer months occurred irregularly and were associated exclusively with anovulatory cycles. The total number of ovulations exhibited by these females during the breeding season ranged from two to six and was positively related to body weight, mean luteal phase progesterone (P) levels of normal cycles and social dominance rank. Ovulations with a short luteal phase were exhibited by four females (seven cycles), with the likelihood of occurrence increasing as the breeding season progressed. The incidence of abnormal cycles was predicted from the linear combination of parity, body weight and luteal phase P of normal ovulatory cycles. These results suggest that during the seasonally delimited period of ovulation, females exhibit a range in the quality and quantity of ovulations which may be predicted by certain idiosyncratic physical and behavioral traits.  相似文献

We monitored raccoons Procyon lotor, in southern Texas during the 1990-1992 mating seasons to describe mating behaviour and identify factors affecting consortship success. During most of this study, raccoons were spatially aggregated, with female home ranges congregated around permanent water sources and larger home ranges of male groups encompassing each female group. Consortship success varied among males and ranged from zero to six females per male within a mating season. Individual females consorted with one to four different males during an oestrous period; however, most (62%) females consorted with only one male during their oestrus. Dominance through overt conflict appeared to influence male consortship success. During two mating seasons, one male from each group consorted with females on more days than all other males combined. Body weight of males was positively correlated with number of consortship days. As synchrony of oestrus increased, variance in number of consortship days among males decreased, and access to oestrous females increased for subordinate males. Wounding among males increased during the mating season, and was more frequent for males than for females. The mating system, as determined by consortship behaviour, appeared to shift between polygyny and promiscuity, and possibly varied annually as a result of the timing of oestrous cycles. ABSTRACT. Female P. americana, reared with males from the time of adult emergence, mated on the 4th–5th day after metamorphosis, produced the first ootheca on the 8th or 9th day, and then produced successive oothecae at intervals of 3.0 days, whereas, only 50% of virgin females had produced their first ootheca by the 28th day after adult emergence. Examination of the ovaries indicated that oocyte development is normal in virgins until shortly after the time when they first become receptive to males. When mating was not allowed there was a dramatic reduction in the rate of vitellogenic growth of the terminal batch of oocytes which persisted until mating was allowed, and was often accompanied by resorption of a percentage of the oocytes. Short-term, in vitro, radiochemical assay of juvenile hormone (JH III) biosynthesis by corpora allata (CA) showed that, in females reared with males, the cycles of ovarian development are accompanied by regular pulses of CA activity. There is a small, possibly preparatory peak of JH III biosynthesis before vitellogenesis of the first wave of oocytes, followed by a larger peak of JH III production during vitellogenesis of this batch of eggs and one peak of CA activity between ovulation of each subsequent wave of oocytes. Activities as low as 0.25 pmol C16JH/CA pair/h and as high as 48.38 pmol/CA pair/h were observed in CA from mated females after the onset of cyclic activity. Stimuli received during mating are somehow responsible for the cyclic activity of the CA, for when females were subjected to enforced virginity the first small peak was normal but the second peak was not fully realized and there was then a gradual decline in CA activity until approximately 2 weeks post-emergence. Thereafter the glands exhibited a more or less constant rate of JH biosynthesis (mean = 3.45 ± 0.32 pmol/CA pair/h.) When females were mated after 21 days of enforced virginity the activity of the CA was enhanced. By 48 h after mating the mean glandular activity was at least four times that found in virgins of the same age, and by 72 h rates as high as 40 pmol/CA pair/h were observed. This was followed by normal cyclic activity of the CA. The increase in rate of JH biosynthesis appears to result in a recommencement of oocyte development in these ‘delayed-mated’ females.  相似文献

Asian musk shrews (Suncus murinus) are induced ovulators, but exhibit no cyclic changes in reproductive structures or in sexual behavior. Mating behavior is induced by contact with a male. To determine if mating induces changes in ovarian steroidogenesis, ovaries removed from unmated animals and at 3, 10, 15, and 36 h after mating were cultured for 4 h in the presence or absence of gonadotropins (LH + FSH, 1 microgram/ml). Histological analysis revealed no obvious changes in follicular size or appearance at the end of culture in ovaries cultured at 3 and 10 h post-mating, as compared with ovaries from unmated shrews, and mating did not stimulate any discernable changes in steroid secretion in these two groups. However, at the end of the culture period, ovulation had occurred or was occurring in ovaries from 35% of the animals ovariectomized at 15 h after mating, and corpora lutea (CLs) were present in 39% of ovarian pairs obtained 36 h after mating. At 15 h post-mating, ovaries with ovulations secreted three times more estradiol than did ovaries that showed no evidence of stimulation by mating, but there were no differences in testosterone or progesterone production. In contrast, ovaries isolated 36 h post-mating with CLs secreted dramatically more of all three steroids than ovaries without CLs (23, 13, and 52 times more estradiol, testosterone, and progesterone, respectively). These data are consistent with plasma concentrations of estradiol at the time of ovariectomy, which were twice as high at both 15 and 36 h after mating, in animals whose ovaries showed evidence of ovarian stimulation.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

The influence of lactation on copulatory behaviors and ovarian functions was studied in Japanese monkeys (Macaca fuscata fuscata) during the mating season. Three lactating females were housed in an outdoor group cage with their infants, and three nonlactating females were housed in an adjacent outdoor cage. They were mated by introduction of one of four rotationally chosen males into the females' cage, for two hours three times a week; the occurrence of ejaculatory copulations was recorded. Blood samples were collected on each observation day, and plasma levels of estradiol, progesterone, and luteinizing hormone (LH) were measured by specific radioimmunoassays. In nonlactating females, plasma estradiol increased during the transition into the mating season, and rose to levels over 90 pg/ml for the first time on about 50 days before the first ovulation. Shortly after plasma estradiol exceeded 90 pg/ml in the nonlactating females, the onset of ejaculatory copulations occurred. They received ejaculations continuously up to the early ovarian luteal phase. On the other hand, in lactating females, there were lower levels of plasma estradiol (below 90 pg/ml) during the transition into the mating season, and they received no ejaculation during that period. Two of the three lactating females ovulated only once, and they received ejaculations only during the periovulatory period, coinciding with the rise of their plasma estradiol levels over 90 pg/ml. The remaining lactating female remained anovulatory and received no ejaculation throughout the entire mating season. These results have demonstrated that the low sexual activity of lactating females is clearly correlated with low levels of plasma estradiol due to suppressed ovarian function.  相似文献

Female hamsters were mated shortly after the onset of oestrus or immediately after ovulation. At various times after mating, spermatozoa were flushed from the isthmus of the oviduct using a modified Tyrode's medium supplemented with 20% hamster serum. Cumulus oophorus-free eggs were introduced into the suspensions of isthmic spermatozoa. Some eggs were removed every 30 min and examined for evidence of fertilization. For females mated shortly after the onset of oestrus, spermatozoa recovered from the oviducts 8 h after mating (about 1.5 h after ovulation) could penetrate eggs within 30 min and were considered fully capacitated. When spermatozoa were recovered at earlier times (1, 2, 4 and 6 h after mating) they required additional time (2, 1.5, 1 and 1 h respectively) in vitro before penetrating eggs. Therefore, when mating occurs shortly after the onset of oestrus, spermatozoa in the oviduct do not appear to become fully capacitated until about the time of ovulation. For females mated immediately after ovulation, spermatozoa recovered from the oviducts at 4 h after mating could penetrate eggs within 30 min. Spermatozoa recovered at 1 and 3 h after mating required 2 and 1 h respectively in vitro before penetrating eggs. These results suggest that sperm capacitation proceeds at a faster rate when mating occurs after ovulation.  相似文献

As an integral part of the development of an artificial insemination programme in the captive koala, female reproductive physiology and behaviour were studied. The oestrous cycle in non-mated and mated koalas was characterized by means of behavioural oestrus, morphology of external genitalia and changes in the peripheral plasma concentrations of oestradiol and progestogen. The mean (+/- SEM) duration of the non-mated oestrous cycle and duration of oestrus in 12 koalas was 32.9 +/- 1.1 (n = 22) and 10.3 +/- 0.9 (n = 24) days, respectively. Although the commencement of oestrous behaviour was associated with increasing or high concentrations of oestradiol, there were no consistent changes in the morphology or appearance of the clitoris, pericloacal region, pouch or mammary teats that could be used to characterize the non-mated cycle. As progestogen concentrations remained at basal values throughout the interoestrous period, non-mated cycles were considered non-luteal and presumed anovulatory. After mating of the 12 koalas, six females gave birth with a mean (+/- SEM) gestation of 34.8 +/- 0.3 days, whereas the remaining six non-parturient females returned to oestrus 49.5 +/- 1. 0 days later. After mating, oestrous behaviour ceased and the progestogen profile showed a significant increase in both pregnant and non-parturient females, indicating that a luteal phase had been induced by the physical act of mating. Progestogen concentrations throughout the luteal phase of the pregnant females were significantly higher than those of non-parturient females. Parturition was associated with a decreasing concentration of progestogen, which was increased above that of basal concentrations until 7 days post partum.  相似文献

Ovarian cycles and the pattern of reproduction in female black-tailed deer in British Columbia were ascertained largely through examination of the ovaries from 444 females. Cyclic development and degeneration of single follicles of ovulatory size occurred several weeks before first ovulation. As the breeding season approached, a second or third large follicle developed in each cycle but in 48% of adult females the follicles were at different stages of maturation. Those failing to rupture at first ovulation luteinized 1 to 2 days thereafter. The first ovulation of the season, in November, never resulted in a lasting pregnancy even though some ova were penetrated by spermatozoa and began to cleave. First ovulation was apparently 'silent' in five of seven females for their ova lacked spermatozoa. Of sixty-one pregnant females, fifty-nine conceived at second ovulation; the other two conceived at subsequent ovulations more widely spaced than the 8- to 9-day interval between first and second ovulations. The synchrony of ovulatory cycles among adult females was such that half of them ovulated for the second time in a span of 7 or 8 days. Primary CL that formed after first ovulation grew to an average maximum volume of only about 45 mm3, whereas those originating at second ovulation grew to twice that size within 5 to 8 days. First generation CL shrank from 35 mm3 to 10 mm3 within 2 days. They disappeared within 18 months but corpora albicantia persisted for the life of the female. The possible ecological significance of the reproductive pattern is discussed.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to determine the effects of progestagens on the buck-induced ovarian cycle in anovular female Creole goats. In the first experiment, 25 anovular females served as a control group and 23 anovular females received a fluorogestone acetate (FGA)-impregnated sponge (45 mg) which was removed at the time males were introduced in the two groups. In the second experiment 10 anovular females served as the control group, and another 10 anovular females received an injection of FGA (5.2 mg) at the time males were introduced. Ovarian activity was traced by laparoscopy (Exp. 1) or progesterone levels (Exp. 2); oestrus and litter size were recorded, and fertility was calculated. In Exp. 2 blood samples were taken every 4 h to study the buck-induced preovulatory luteinizing hormone (LH) surge, and twice daily for progesterone plasma levels.FGA pretreatment did not modify the percentage of females ovulating in either experiment. The percentage of females showing oestrus at first ovulation in Exp. 1 was enhanced by treatment (55% vs 100%), and in both experiments FGA pretreatment restored the normal lifespan of corpora lutea compared to untreated females (96% vs 14%). FGA injection delayed the onset of oestrus and the preovulatory LH surge by 20 h, but did not modify either duration of oestrus or duration of the LH surge.Fertility of control females was low at first ovulation compared to FGA-treated females (10% vs 85%); but fertilization occurred at the subsequent ovulations in most of the control females. It is concluded that progestagen pretreatment is an efficient technique to control buck-induced short ovarian cycles. The exact role of the progestagen, through a delay of LH surge or a direct effect on follicles, remains unknown.  相似文献
