Using the Boucher micromethod of determining renin activity in the frontoparietal cortex, brain stem, hypothalamus, hypophysis, and epiphysis rat tissue in different functional conditions, we have observed the following: 1 In rats previously treated with an I. V., injection of 1-1.5 ml 10% NaCl, an increase of renin-like activity was found in the cerebral cortex, brain stem and hypothalamus, whereas in the grandular tissue there was a significant decrease...     

Extracorporeal treatment with L-asparaginase (author's transl)]

L-asparaginase therapy is often limited by allergy or toxicity and probably in some cases by antibody mediated inactivation of the enzyme. These problems can be avoided by extracorporeal application of l-asparaginase. As the enzyme is a stable tetramer with high molecular weight it cannot pass through the dialysis membrane in contrast to the amino acid l-asparagin which is destroyed. The resulting l-asparagin depletion of the plasma is sufficient for therapeutic success. Effective extracorporeal l-asparaginase therapy is demonstrated in two patients with ALL who were resistant to other chemotherapy and could not be treated intravenously because of allergy and toxicity.     

Recent advances in the hormonal treatment of sterility (author's transl)]

The present trends in the utilization of hormones in the treatment of sterility are reviewed, special reference being made to the utilization of gonadotrophins, hypothalamic hormones and gonadal hormones as well as other substances (clomiphene, epimestrol, cyclophenyl) that are also utilized in this type of treatments.     

Hydrolytic conditions of the conjugated steroids from human urine (author's transl)]

The hydrolisis of dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate added to human urine was studied under several hydrolytic procedures. Enzymatic and acid hydrolysis with and without the previous removal of enzymic inhibitors present in the human urine were compared. The simple precipitation of inorganic ions with barium acetate before the enzymatic hydrolysis was considered an efficient procedure giving an 81% recovery of the added dehydroepiandrosterone. Since this procedure does not involve rearrangements in the steroid molecules, and because of its simplicity it is considered adequate for the determination of the urinary steroid excretion patterns in humans allowing the quantitation of some conjugates (16 alpha-hydroxy-dehydroepiandrosterone) otherwise not detectable because of its incomplete hydrolysis and extraction.
