To facilitate the modifying of femoral surface model, by dividing the femoral mesh into surface feature units bearing medical significance based on surface feature technology, a new approach of constructing femoral models using surface feature technology is proposed. Firstly, considering of femoral anatomy, the femoral triangle mesh model generated from the averaged point-clouds is divided into several specific regions, which are called feature regions; Secondly, feature parameters are defined and the constraints among them are set up, and feature surfaces are created by skinning the contours; Finally, the adjacent feature surfaces are connected by transition surfaces, and the parametric CAD surface model of femur is constructed. Experimental results show that, with the proposed method, the surface feature model can be intuitively constructed and edited with high-level parameters. Therefore, the proposed method provides a basic tool for the design of implants and the digital restoration of incomplete femurs.  相似文献

Shape optimization of orthopedic fixation plate is of great importance in the treatment of complex fracture. Therefore, a method in this paper to automatically optimize the complex shape of anatomical plate according to static analysis. Based on the theory of finite element analysis (FEA), our approach is processed as follows. First, the three-dimensional finite element model of the fracture fixation is constructed. Next, according to the type and feature of fracture, the anatomical plate was parameterized in two levels (the bounding surface and plate model). Then, parameter constraints are set up to meet the needs of surgical fracture treatment. Finally, by using the theories combined with the method of moving asymptote (MMA) and gradient projection (GP), the plate model is modified automatically based on the principle of plate stress and segment offset minimization. Experimental results show that the displacement of femur segments and the stress of fracture site were decreased slightly and can improve the biomechanical environment around the fracture.  相似文献

Epiphysiodesis is an operative procedure that induces bony bridges to form across a growth plate of a bone to stop longitudinal growth. This is a very common orthopedic procedure to correct disproportional long-bone growth discrepancies; however, present techniques require an operation and anesthesia. Our study was designed to develop a minimally invasive method of epiphysiodesis by using electrical stimulation with DC current. In a rabbit model, a thin titanium electrode was inserted into a single location of the distal femoral growth plate in three groups: one without current (control), one group with a constant 10 microA (low current, LC), and one group with a 50 microA (high current, HC). The current was delivered for 2 weeks. The nontreated femur served as a control for each animal. Femur lengths were measured and comparisons were made between operated (left) and nonoperated (right) femurs. Digitized histomorphometric and volumetric analyses were performed on each growth plate, and detailed assessments were made of any morphological changes. Using length measurements, the difference in femur length was significantly larger in the HC group and not in the LC or control groups, showing bone growth inhibition at the higher current. In the HC group, bony bridges and disorganized growth plates were observed. This study shows that delivery of an electrical current of 50 microA for as little as 2 weeks can markedly affect bone growth as evidenced by changes in epiphyseal plate volume and architectural organization, and the study supports the use of this minimally invasive approach as a potential method of achieving an epiphysiodesis.  相似文献

A finite difference heat transfer model has been developed to predict the Safe Touch Temperatures (STT) for plates made of different materials. SST can be defined as the highest temperature at which no pain is felt when the surface is touched for a long enough period to allow safe handling of the equipment. The criterion used to quantify damage is the "damage function" that was originally proposed by Henriques and Moritz. There are several uncertainties present in the physiological and thermal properties of the skin that give rise to a solution range rather than a single solution. Certain simplifying assumptions are made that tend to yield solutions for STT that are toward the lower or "safe" end of the solution range. The model developed is a two-dimensional axisymmetric model in cylindrical coordinates. A finite difference scheme that uses the Alternating Direction Implicit method is used to solve the problem. It is a second-order scheme in both space and time domains. A parametric analysis of the model is performed to isolate those factors that affect the STT to the greatest extent. Data are presented for a variety of cases, which cover commonly observed ranges in material and geometric properties. It is found that the material properties, namely thermal conductivity and volumetric heat capacity, and the plate thickness ratio are the three most important parameters. These three parameters account for a range of STT from 56 degrees C-100 degrees C with thick metals at the low end and thin metals and plastics in the high range. This method represents a significant improvement over existing standard practices.  相似文献

The chimaeroid holocephalian fishes are distinguished among extant chondrichthyans by the possession of three pairs of tooth plates, evergrowing and partially hypermineralized, that are not shed and replaced like the teeth of living elasmobranchs. Although derivation of the chimaeroid tooth plate from the fusion of members of a plesiomorphic chondrichthyan tooth family has been proposed, evidence for this hypothesis has been lacking. A new analysis of the development and structure of the tooth plates in Callorhinchus milii (Holocephali, Chimaeriformes) reveals the compound nature of the tooth plates in a chimaeroid fish. Each tooth plate consists of an oral and aboral territory that form independently in the embryo and maintain separate growth surfaces through life. The descending lamina on the aboral surface of the tooth plate demarcates the growth surface of the aboral territory. Comparison with the tooth plates of Chimaera monstrosa indicates that compound tooth plates may be a feature of all chimaeroids in which a descending lamina is present. The tooth plates in these fishes represent the fusion of two members of a reduced tooth family. The condition of the tooth plates in C. milii is plesiomorphic for chimaeroids and is of evolutionary significance in that it provides further evidence to support a lyodont dentition in chimaeroid fishes similar to that found in other chondrichthyans. © 1994 Wiley-Liss, Inc.  相似文献

<正> 1973年夏,笔者在横县六景镇北釆获若干节甲鱼化石碎片,其中两件保存不全的刺体,曾以系统位置未定的窄鳞鱼类(又称北极鱼)报道过(刘时藩,1980)。1980年5月,笔者又在原来采集化石的地点和同一层位的另一地点,又采获了数十件鱼化石甲片。化石产于那高岭组的底部的黄绿色、灰色的泥岩和泥灰岩中。经初步观察,这些分离保存不全的甲片,几乎全属于节甲类,其中大多数还应隶属辐纹鱼科(Actinolepidae)。本文先将其可确认者作初步报道,同时对这些鱼化石的系统位置以及有关的地质问题也作初步讨论。  相似文献

In microorganisms, and more particularly in yeasts, a standard phenotyping approach consists in the analysis of fitness by growth rate determination in different conditions. One growth assay that combines high throughput with high resolution involves the generation of growth curves from 96-well plate microcultivations in thermostated and shaking plate readers. To push the throughput of this method to the next level, we have adapted it in this study to the use of 384-well plates. The values of the extracted growth parameters (lag time, doubling time and yield of biomass) correlated well between experiments carried out in 384-well plates as compared to 96-well plates or batch cultures, validating the higher-throughput approach for phenotypic screens. The method is not restricted to the use of the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, as shown by consistent results for other species selected from the Hemiascomycete class. Furthermore, we used the 384-well plate microcultivations to develop and validate a higher-throughput assay for yeast Chronological Life Span (CLS), a parameter that is still commonly determined by a cumbersome method based on counting “Colony Forming Units”. To accelerate analysis of the large datasets generated by the described growth and aging assays, we developed the freely available software tools GATHODE and CATHODE. These tools allow for semi-automatic determination of growth parameters and CLS behavior from typical plate reader output files. The described protocols and programs will increase the time- and cost-efficiency of a number of yeast-based systems genetics experiments as well as various types of screens.  相似文献

The thecal surface morphology of Scrippsiella subsalsa (Ostenfeld) Steidinger et Balech was examined using the scanning electron microscope. This species is distinguished by a number of morphological characteristics. Apical plate 1′ is wide, asymmetric, and pentagonal, and it ends at the anterior margin of the cingulum. Intercalary plates 2a and 3a are separated by apical plate 3′. The apical pore complex includes a large Po plate with a raised dome at the center and a deep canal plate with thickened margins at plates 2′, 3′, and 4′. The intercalary bands are wide and deeply striated. The cingulum is deep, formed by six cingular plates; its surface is transversely striated and aligned with a row of minute pores. The cingular list continues around postcingular plate 1′” to form a sulcal list. The sulcal list is a flexible ribbon with a rounded tip that protrudes posteriorly, partially covering the sulcal plates. The hypotheca is lobed, and the antapical plates are irregularly shaped and wide in antapical view. The thecal surface is vermiculate to reticulate. A comparison in morphology and ecology is presented between S. subsalsa and other known Scrippsiella species.  相似文献

Background

Fatty Liver Disease (FLD) is one of the most critical diseases that should be detected and cured at the earlier stage in order to decrease the mortality rate. To identify the FLD, ultrasound images have been widely used by the radiologists. However, due to poor quality of ultrasound images, they found difficulties in recognizing FLD. To resolve this problem, many researchers have developed various Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) systems for the classification of fatty and normal liver ultrasound images. However, the performance of existing CAD systems is not good in terms of sensitivity while classifying the FLD.

Methods

In this paper, an attempt has been made to present a CAD system for the classification of liver ultrasound images. For this purpose, texture features are extracted by using seven different texture models to represent the texture of Region of Interest (ROI). Highly discriminating features are selected by using Mutual Information (MI) feature selection method.

Results

Extensive experiments have been carried out with four different classifiers, and for carrying out this study, 90 liver ultrasound images have been taken. From the experimental results, it has been found that the proposed CAD system is able to give 95.55% accuracy and sensitivity of 97.77% with the 20 best features selected by the MI feature selection technique.

Conclusion

The experimental results show that the proposed system can be used for the classification of fatty and normal liver ultrasound images with higher accuracy.  相似文献

While the pore plates of some species of the Sphecoidea (Hymenoptera) rise above the antennal surface, those of other species are flush with it. Not all species possess pore plates. On the antennae of those species, which lack pore plates, small sensilla basiconica are found. The pore plates of Psenulus concolor were studied in detail. The cuticular apparatus rises above the antennal surface. Cuticular features are the encircling ledge and delicate cuticular ledges reinforcing the perforated plate, as well as a joint-like membrane that anchors the plate into the antennal cuticle. Each pore plate is associated with 9–23 sense cells and 4 envelope cells, the second of which is doubled. In very early developmental stages, however, supernumerary envelope cells are observed; they degenerate before the cuticulin layer is secreted. Envelope cell 1 secretes a temporary dendrite sheath, while the envelope cells 2–4 are responsible for the secretion of the cuticular apparatus.The morphology and the development of the small sensilla basiconica are described in Trypoxylon attenuatum. The curved sensillum pointing to the tip of the antenna is anchored by a joint-like membrane. About 15 sense cells innervate the sensillum. The number and the arrangement of the envelope cells resemble that of the sensilla placodea. During very early developmental stages, supernumerary envelope cells are also observed. They degenerate before the cuticle of the cone is secreted by the surviving envelope cells 2–4.  相似文献

Computer-aided detection (CAD) technology has been developed and demonstrated its potential to assist radiologists in detecting pulmonary nodules especially at an early stage. In this paper, we present a novel scheme for automatic detection of pulmonary nodules in CT images based on a 3D tensor filtering algorithm and local image feature analysis. We first apply a series of preprocessing steps to segment the lung volume and generate the isotropic volumetric CT data. Next, a unique 3D tensor filtering approach and local image feature analysis are used to detect nodule candidates. A 3D level set segmentation method is used to correct and refine the boundaries of nodule candidates subsequently. Then, we extract the features of the detected candidates and select the optimal features by using a CFS (Correlation Feature Selection) subset evaluator attribute selection method. Finally, a random forest classifier is trained to classify the detected candidates. The performance of this CAD scheme is validated using two datasets namely, the LUNA16 (Lung Nodule Analysis 2016) database and the ANODE09 (Automatic Nodule Detection 2009) database. By applying a 10-fold cross-validation method, the CAD scheme yielded a sensitivity of 79.3% at an average of 4 false positive detections per scan (FP/Scan) for the former dataset, and a sensitivity of 84.62% and 2.8 FP/Scan for the latter dataset, respectively. Our detection results show that the use of 3D tensor filtering algorithm combined with local image feature analysis constitutes an effective approach to detect pulmonary nodules.  相似文献

The relationships between areal (g m(-2) per day) and volumetric (g l(-1) per day) productivity of Nannochloropsis sp. as affected by the light-path (ranging from 1.3 to 17.0 cm) of a vertical flat plate glass photobioreactor were elucidated. In general, the shorter the length of the light-path (LP), the smaller the areal volume and the higher the volumetric productivity. The areal productivity in relation to the light-path, in contrast, yielded an optimum curve, the highest areal productivity was obtained in a 10 cm LP reactor, which is regarded, therefore, optimal for mass production of Nannochloropsis. An attempt was made to identify criteria by which to assess the efficiency of a photobioreactor in utilizing strong incident energy. Two basic factors which relate to reactor efficiency and its cost-effectiveness have been defined as (a) the total illuminated surface required to produce a set quantity of product and (b) culture volume required to produce that quantity. As a general guide line, the lower these values are, the more efficient and cost-effective the reactor would be. An interesting feature of this analysis rests with the fact that an open raceways is as effective in productivity per illuminated area as a flat-plate reactor with an optimal light path, both cultivation systems requiring ca. 85 m(2) of illuminated surface to produce 1 kg dry cell mass of Nannochloropsis sp. per day. The difference in light utilization efficiency between the two very different production systems involves three aspects - first, the open raceway requires ca. 6 times greater volume than the 10 cm flat plate reactor to produce the same quantity of cell-mass. Second, the total ground area (i.e. including the ground area between reactors) for the vertical flat plate reactor is less than one half of that occupied by an open raceway, indicating the former is more efficient, photosynthetically, compared with the latter. Finally, the harvested cell density is close to one order of magnitude higher in the flat plate reactor, which carries economic significance. The advantage of vertical lamination of photoautotrophic cells provided by vertical plate reactors, is thereby clearly seen. The optimal population density (i.e. which results in the highest areal productivity) in the 10 cm plate reactor was obtained by a daily harvest of 10% of culture volume, yielding an annual average of ca. 12.1 g dry wt. m(-2) per day (on the basis of the overall illuminated reactor surfaces, i.e. front and back) or 240 mg l(-1) per day.  相似文献

Mass segmentation in mammograms is a challenging task due to problems such as low contrast, ill-defined, fuzzy or spiculated borders, and the presence of intensity inhomogeneities. These facts complicate the development of computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems to assist radiologists. In this paper, a novel mass segmentation algorithm for mammograms based on robust multiscale feature-fusion, and automatic estimation based maximum a posteriori (MAP) method is presented. The proposed segmentation technique consists of mainly four stages: a dynamic contrast improvement scheme applied to a selected region-of-interest (ROI), background-influence correction by template matching, detection of mass candidate points by prior and posterior probabilities based on robust multiscale feature-fusion, and final delineation of the mass region by a MAP scheme. This segmentation method is applied to 480 ROI masses that used ground truth from two radiologists. To compare its effectiveness with the state-of-the-art segmentation methods, three statistical metrics are employed. The experimental results indicate that the developed methods can reliably segment ill-defined or spiculated lesions when compared to other algorithms. Its integration in a CAD system may result in an improved aid to radiologists.  相似文献

The biomimetic approach mimicking in vivo micro environment is the key for developing functional tissue engineered constructs. In this study, we used a tripolymer combination consisting of a natural polymer, chitosan and two extracellular matrix components; collagen type 1 and hyaluronic acid to coat tissue culture plate to evaluate their effect on osteogenic differentiation of human bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs). The polymers were blended at different mixing ratios and the tissue culture plates were coated either by polyblend method or by surface modification method. hMSCs isolated from adult bone marrow were directed to osteoblast differentiation on the coated plates. Our results showed that the tripolymer coating of the tissue culture plate enhanced mineralization as evidenced by calcium quantification exhibiting significantly higher amount of calcium compared to the untreated or individual polymer coated plates. We found that the tripolymer coated plates having a 1:1 mixing ratio of chitosan and collagen type 1, surface modified with hyaluronic acid is an ideal combination to achieve the synergistic effect of these polymers on in vitro osteogenic differentiation of hMSCs. These results thus, establish a novel biomimetic approach of surface modification to enhance osteoblast differentiation and mineralization. Our findings hold great promise in implementing a biomimetic surface coating to improve osteoconductivity of implants and scaffolds for various orthopaedic and bone tissue engineering applications.  相似文献

Urate oxidase (E.C.1.7.3.3; uricase, urate oxygen oxidoreductase) is an enzyme of the purine breakdown pathway that catalyzes the oxidation of uric acid in the presence of oxygen to allantoin and hydrogen peroxide. A 96-well plate assay measurement of urate oxidase activity based on hydrogen peroxide quantitation was developed. The 96-well plate method included two steps: an incubation step for the urate oxidase reaction followed by a step in which the urate oxidase activity is stopped in the presence of 8-azaxanthine, a competitive inhibitor. Hydrogen peroxide is quantified during the second step by a horseradish peroxidase-dependent system. Under the defined conditions, uric acid, known as a radical scavenger, did not interfere with hydrogen peroxide quantification. The general advantages of such a colorimetric assay performed in microtiter plates, compared to other methods and in particular the classical UV method performed with cuvettes, are easy handling of large amounts of samples at the same time, the possibility of automation, and the need for less material. The method has been applied to the determination of the kinetic parameters of rasburicase, a recombinant therapeutic enzyme.  相似文献

Detailed anatomical study of the solute Girvanicystis batheri from the Girvan starfish bed (Ashgill) has enabled the oral partition, hydropore, gonopore and the possible opening of a branchial slit to be identified. The distal part of the alimentary tract and the stomach were located in the posterior part of the head. Structures preserved as steinkernen are interpreted as a brain and left cranial nerve. The gross anatomy of G. batheri supports the hypothesis that it was a suspension feeder. Girvanicystis batheri is characterized by large plates on the dorsal surface of the head, 20 rings of the feeding arm and a nodular median plate on the ventral surface of the head. A new species of Girvanicystis, G. casteri , is described from the Sholeshook limestone (Ashgill) of South Wales. Girvanicystis casteri is distinguished from G. batheri in that the former has narrower head, a longer feeding arm and a spine on the median plate of the ventral surface of the head. Girvanicystis batheri has characters in common with the cornute Ceratocystis perneri , namely large plates of the skeleton of the head, right and left marginal flanges, opposite dorsal fore tail plates and alternate ventral fore tail plates, which suggest that G. batheri may also be a stem chordate.  相似文献
