Results if the ichthyoparasitological investigation of the Bug River carried out in 1996-1999 are reported. Twenty-nine metazoan parasite species from 7 classes were found in fishes from the studied area, with the total infestation rate 63.9%. Thirteen of them parasitize fish at larval stages. Metacercariae of Opisthorchis felineus, which ate the agents of opisthorchosis in man and animals, were found in roach.  相似文献

The present work provides new data on the banding pattern of diploid Cobitis taenia and its triploid hybrid females, which belong to the diploid–polyploid complex in the Vistula River tributary. C-banding, silver-staining (Ag), and fluorescent staining with chromomycin A3 techniques were used to describe the diploid and triploid karyotype. The karyotype of Cobitis taenia of 2n=48 was characterised by one pair of NOR-bearing subtelocentric chromosomes and at least four chromosomes with CMA3-positive sites. The C-positive heterochromatin was present in the centromeres of almost all chromosomes and the pericentromeric regions of several metacentric and submetacentric chromosomes. The triploid females of 3n=74 had two pairs of chromosomes with active NORs. The NORs-sites were located terminally on two biarmed and two uniarmed chromosomes. The CMA3-staining revealed at least six A3-positive sites. The C-banded and A3-stained triploid karyotype was composed of haploid set of Cobitis taenia and diploid set of unidentified species, so heterochromatin pattern confirmed the possibility of their hybrid origin. The characteristics of banded diploid and triploid karyotype, and the hypothetical karyotype of an unknown species of 2n=50 is discussed. In the present study we focused on the impact of macrophyte cover (composed mainly of the Lemna genus) on phytoplankton taxonomic and functional diversity. Some important environmental parameters, mainly light (KdPAR), and the chemical conditions (pH, dissolved oxygen, ammonium, soluble and total forms of phosphorus) were closely related to the pleustophyte cover. Among them, the key factor in the phytoplankton ecology of the studied oxbow lakes was the dense macrophyte cover which strongly reduced the illumination of water. Neither differences in the mean nutrient concentrations between the lakes with FFP (Free Floating Plants) absence and those with FFP dominance nor significant relationships between nutrients and the phytoplankton structure were observed. The species composition of phytoplankton and the functional (FG) and morpho-functional (MFG) groups reflected the differences between the habitats connected with hydromacrophytes. The free-floating macrophyte cover favours mixotrophic and heterotrophic species, mainly Euglenophyta (coda W1 and W2) and chrysophytes (codon Ws) as well as shade-adapted cyanobacteria with the high tolerance of the low oxygen content (codon K). In lakes with FFP absence — taxa from Chlorophyta and Bacillariophyceae (associations X1, J, and D), or filamentous cyanobacteria (codon S1) dominated the phytoplankton. MFG were less related to the oxbow type and exhibited greater similarity between lakes independently of the presence or absence of FFP. Only unicellular Cyanoprokaryota which created MFG 4 and colonial chroococcales (MFG 5b and 5c) reached a greater percentage share, especially in oxbow lakes with FFP dominance.  相似文献

The seasonal cycle of the cestode Proteocephalus sagittus (Cestoda: Proteocephalidae) was studied for the first time in the stone loach Barbatula barbatula from the Hana River, Czech Republic. A total of 180 loaches were examined monthly from January to December 2001. The parasite occurred in loaches throughout the year but infection parameters differed significantly among seasons, with the highest values of prevalence and abundance from the late winter to the early summer. Parasite recruitment took place in the winter and early spring and the worms sexually matured in the late spring and early summer. In contrast to P. torulosus, the gravid worms of which laid eggs only at the end of the spring/beginning of the summer, gravid worms of P. sagittus were also found, although in low numbers, in the autumn and early winter. The rate of infection of loach with P. sagittus was neither dependent on the sex nor on the size of its fish host.  相似文献

Bodily preserved, secondarily phosphatized arthropods discovered in drill cores on He***l Peninsula, northern Poland, and in its vicinity date from the Upper Cambrian. Comparisons between a group of arthropods of the Upper Cambrian of Sweden recognized as stem-lineage crustaceans indicate that one of these new forms, Cambrocaris baltica n. gen. n. sp., also represents a derivative of the early phase of crustacean evolution prior to the crown-group level. The material also yielded a specimen identified as Skara minuta Müller & Walossek, 1985, hitherto known only from Västergotland, Sweden, and two limb fragments which cannot be assigned to species. □ Crustacea, stem-lineage derivatives. A simple and reliable method is described for breeding spined loach, Cobitis taenia Linnaeus, 1758, under laboratory conditions. Three 40 L aquaria were each provided with a thick tuft of moss placed on top of a gauze-covered plastic box to serve as a spawning site. Ovoposition always occurred in the most densely available vegetation. The nonadhesive eggs fell through the gauze into the box. The spined loach is a fractional spawner releasing eggs in 14–18 batches at intervals of 2–23 (median 6) days. The total number of eggs per female was 2905–4282 during the reproductive season of 101–120 days. Yolks measured 1.14 ± 0.07 mm and eggs were 2.54 ± 0.22 mm in diameter. Total larval length was 5.03 ± 0.34 mm at hatching and 6.77 ± 0.34 mm at the beginning of exogenous feeding. The method allowed the rearing of numerous young for conservation measures and experimental investigations.  相似文献

The maturation and growth pattern of the fluvial eight-barbel loach Lefua sp. (Japanese name: nagare-hotoke-dojo), an endangered species, was investigated using an individual identification-recapture method from 1995 to 1998 in an upper reach of a headwater tributary of the Kako River, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. Based on observations of the gonads through the abdominal skin, the loach was estimated to breed mostly from May to July. All the males matured by age 1+, and all the females matured by age 2+. Gamete release in all individuals of both males and females was predicted from recaptured loaches during each breeding season. The standard length of mature females was significantly larger than that of males, showing sexual size dimorphism (SSD). The maximum sizes recorded were 75.4 mm SL for females and 61.2 mm SL for males. Both males and females of immature specimens grew mainly from May to November, including the breeding season, with no significant differences in growth rates between them. After sexual maturity, both males and females grew mainly from July to October (or November), after the breeding season, and the females exhibited higher growth rates than males. Therefore, SSD of the species seems to be attributable to the different growth rates after maturity. The longevity of the loach was estimated to exceed ten years based on individual growth patterns of various sizes during the survey period. It is likely that the loach has an iteroparous life history, breeding every year, and moderate growth rates after maturity.  相似文献

Synopsis The pelagic (589 spp.) and demersal (505 spp.) oceanic ichthyofaunas of the North Atlantic Basin have very different compositions at ordinal and family level. Yet the pattern of relationships between species' maximum size and maximum fecundity from data available (10% of the pelagic, 19% of the demersal species) was similar. A positive relationship between fecundity and weight was confirmed among most teleosts, but was not followed by the elasmobranchs represented. Species' reproductive styles are reviewed in ordinal groupings within a framework of the overall body size/fecundity distribution. Species size (maximum weight) spectra were synthesized for both pelagic and demersal assemblages to assess the allocation of potential reproductive effort throughout the North Atlantic oceanic ichthyofauna. The only available examples of species size spectra and biomass spectra from the pelagic and demersal ichthyofauna in this ocean basin imply geographic and bathymetric variation in overall reproductive effort among fishes whose fecundity is size dependent. Further implications concerning reproductive effort are discussed in the light of food availability.  相似文献

The objective of the study was to determine some reproductive parameters in the golden grey mullet (Liza aurata Risso, 1810) during two periods half a decade apart while also trying from limited data to identify changes in fecundity over the past half century. Maturity and fecundity of golden grey mullet caught in Iranian waters of the Caspian Sea is not well documented and were thus studied during several seasonal cycles during 2002–2004 to establish basic data on reproduction in the area. The fork length (FL) of 462 sampled fish was between 22.1 and 51.9 cm. The fork length–weight relationship derived from all fish was W = 0.0118FL2.964. Overall male to female ratio was 1 : 1.42. The reproductive season extended from October to December. Fifty percent of sexual maturity was at FL 26.0 cm. Mature gonads were present in 20% of fish at age 3, 63% at age 4, 88% at age 5, and 97% at age 6. Individual absolute fecundity of the golden grey mullet ranged from 113 386 to 1.47 million eggs, with a mean (±SD) of 451 963 (±274,114.2). An overlap exists between the spawning and fishing seasons. Therefore, the start of the fishing season should be delayed for 1 month in order for stocks to complete their spawning.  相似文献

The chemical composition of drift in the lake-river system of the Krutynia River was investigated in May and August of 1987–1989. The main chemical component of drift was organic carbon, four fractions of which were distinguished: dissolved (DOC), fine particulate (FPOC), coarse (COPC) and large particulate organic carbon (LPOC). The most important of these was DOC, representing 88–100% of the TOC transported. Among the POC, the finest fraction (FPOC) prevailed, constituting as much as 98.3% of dry weight of the particulate matter. There were no significant differences between the average content of CPOC and LPOC, although significant seasonal changes were observed. Concentrations of both dissolved and particulate forms of carbon decreased with distance downriver, but that of POC diminished faster, possibly because of the effect of the lake.  相似文献

The total mean biomass and production of fish populations were estimated at 80–116 kg ha–1 and 135–164 kg ha–1 yr–1, respectively, at two sites of a large alluvial river (the Warta River, Poland). The impact of impoundment on the energy budget and gross ecological efficiency (K 1) of fish populations in sites upstream from the backwater (AB) and downstream of the dam (CD) of a manmade reservoir (17.6 km2) located in the middle reaches of the lowland Warta River (808 km long), was investigated.Consumption (MJ ha–1 yr-1) in four years following the reservoir's impoundment was 34–74% lower in site AB, and 43–75% in site CD than before the impoundment. K 1 of investigated species was higher before the impoundment and only pike exhibited an inverse efficiency trend. Significant differences were also observed in the diet of certain dominant fish species, which resulted from a change in the food supply as well as a reduction in their life span after the river was dammed.  相似文献

Monkey goby Neogobius fluviatilis and racer goby N. gymnotrachelus, both native to the Ponto‐Caspian region, were discovered in Polish rivers during the mid‐1990s and currently they are invading the River Vistula. Preliminary studies were carried out on the diet of both species at two sites in the lower River Vistula, one lotic (main channel of the river downstream of the W?oc?awek river reservoir) and the other lentic (left bank, middle section of the W?oc?awek Reservoir). Significant differences were noted in diet between the two species and within species according to habitat, in particular the types of chironomid taxa taken. Over a single diel cycle, monkey goby were captured between 07:00 and 19:00 hours only, feeding more intensively on chironomid larvae than the racer goby, which was captured at most times of day. The wide diet plasticity of these non‐native fish species favours their expansion.  相似文献

Little information has been published on the reproductive biology and behavior of the emperor tamarin (Saguinus imperator). We analyzed twelve years of data on emperor tamarins at the Los Angeles Zoo and made comparisons with data on cotton-top tamarins (Saguinus o. oedipus) and golden lion tamarins (Leontopithecus rosalia) from the same collection. Secondary sex ratios did not differ significantly from 50:50. Births were not strictly seasonal for any species. The number of infants reared had a significant effect on interbirth interval for all species, with shorter intervals when only one or no infants were reared, but females did sometimes conceive early in lactation. In emperor tamarin families, all fathers and most older siblings carried new infants, usually beginning within a few days after a birth. Previous exposure to younger siblings did not appear to be critical to the development of competent parental behavior by zooborn emperor tamarin females.  相似文献

The morphology of vitellogenic oocytes and the batch fecundity of five tropical forage species belonging to the family Characidae, were studied in 104 late‐maturing ovaries. Significant morphological differences between vitellogenic oocytes and ovarian follicles were found. The lowest batch fecundity values were recorded in Hemigrammus marginatus (480 ± 163) and Orthospinus franciscensis (1701 ± 562), which were the smaller species in terms of total length, body weight and oocyte diameter. The highest batch fecundity value was observed in Tetragonopterus chalceus (8384 ± 3944) having the highest GSI and oocyte diameter. Batch fecundity and gonad weight was highly correlated followed by body weight and total length. Relative fecundity was estimated per unit total length, body weight and gonad weight. The wide variation in fecundity observed between the specimens and the species analysed is possibly related to the multiple spawning reproductive strategy of these fishes. Since T. chalceus have higher values of batch and relative fecundity, it is concluded that this species has a higher reproductive potential than the other forage species studied.  相似文献

Production and community composition of selected taxa of Chironomidae were estimated in cross-sections of the lower course of two lowland rivers, the Widawka and the Grabia. At the selected site, the Grabia has not changed its morphometry for many years, whereas the discharge of the Widawka has increased (mainly due to inputs of coal mine water) by 75% in comparison with its hypothetical natural discharge. In the Widawka, the production value, for 76.7% of total Chironomidae abundance, amounted to 12.45 g dry wt m–2 yr–1, while in the Grabia it amounted to 11.91 g dry wt m–2 yr–1 The annual P : B ranged from 14.5 for large-sized species (Chironomus in the Widawka) to 82.0 for small-sized species (Eukiefferiella in the Grabia). The similar production values estimated for both rivers, despite a three times higher density of Chironomidae in the Grabia, is noteworthy.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to assess the response of Trichoptera in a patchy tailwater stretch of the Drzewiczka River (Poland) to dam removal as compared to the previous pulse discharge disturbance. The study was carried out in the river at the end of a whitewater slalom canoeing track located downstream of the dam reservoir called Drzewieckie Lake (area 0.84 km2). Between February and April 2002, the dam reservoir was gradually emptied before its dredging, and the Drzewiczka River recovered its natural discharge (1.7–4.5 ms−1) for several years (temporary renaturisation). Altogether, 120 monthly samples of macroinvertebrates and their environments were collected in two sampling cycles, S1 in 2000–2001 during high discharge fluctuations (2.1–12.0 ms−1 daily) and S2 in 2002–2003 during renaturisation after emptying the reservoir, from the following five habitats: HP—pool habitat, HS—stagnant habitat, HM—macrophyte habitat, HB—bank habitat and HR—riffle habitat. On the basis of trichopteran abundance, the patterns in their assemblages were recognised with use of a self-organising map that was a Kohonen artificial neural network. The obtained classification of trichopteran samples was found to be based in general on the spatial criterion, i.e. dependent on habitats, irrespective of which sampling cycle the samples originated from, which clearly showed that the habitat mosaic of the river bed was observed both in S1 and S2. In addition, a very important function was noted for riparian and land plants, which developed intensively at the bottom of the Drzewieckie Reservoir immediately after it was emptied. They restricted extensive transport of reservoir sediments to the downstream river reach, thus reducing differences between S1 and S2 in the tailwater. It is also worth noting that in S1, in comparison to S2, Cyrnus trimaculatus, Mystacides azurea and Lype reducta flowing downstream from the reservoir were observed more frequently in the river, which confirmed that impoundments can be conducive to the presence of certain species downstream of dams. Summing up, although artificial short-term flow fluctuations usually diminish the quality and quantity of benthos, the article presents a case in which they were small and short enough to allow the formation of a mosaic of bed patches and positively affected certain parameters of macrobenthic communities according to the intermediate disturbance hypothesis. Using Sephadex G-50 gel filtration, DEAE-52 cellulose ion-exchange chromatography, and an improved polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis together with electroelution, a novel polypeptide with antimicrobial activity in vitro was isolated and characterized from loach, Misgurnus anguillicaudatus. The polypeptide, named MAPP, contains about 94 residues containing l0 different amino acids, of which cysteine was the most abundant. No alkaline residue was found in MAPP. MAPP is a single-chain polypeptide with Mw of about 9800Da and pI of about 4.78; the N-terminus of MAPP was CFGWN. MAPP showed good inhibition of various bacteria including Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus. MAPP is thermally stable with more than 70% inhibitory bioactivity remaining after treatment at 60 degrees C for 30min. In addition, MAPP could inhibit the autoxidation of pyrogallol with a high efficiency. Similarity searches by comparing amino acid composition, MS-fingerprint, and the N-terminus of MAPP demonstrated that no protein exactly matched MAPP in databases around the world.  相似文献
