In an experimental strain of white plumage geese created in 1989, two experiments were carried out from 1993 to 1995 in order to estimate genetic parameters for growth, and carcass composition traits in non-overfed animals, and genetic parameters for growth and fatty liver formation in overfed animals. Four hundred and thirty-one non-overfed animals were bred and slaughtered at 11 weeks of age; they were measured for forearm length, keel bone length, chest circumference and breast depth before and after slaughtering. The carcasses were partly dissected in order weigh breast, breast muscle and skin + fat, and abdominal fat. Four hundred and seventy-seven overfed animals were slaughtered at 20 weeks of age; they were measured for "paletot" (breast meat, bone and meat from wings, bone and meat from thigh and legs) weight and liver weight. In these two experiments, the weights had moderate to high heritability values. Breast depth measured on live animals showed a low heritability value. In overfed animals, liver weight showed a high heritability value. Liver weight could be increased by selection without a great effect on "paletot" weight. Thus, obtaining a white plumage geese strain for fatty liver production by selection would be difficult because only 20% of overfed animals had fatty liver. The results did not allow to conclude on the influence of selection on liver weight on carcass traits such as muscle or fatty tissue weight. 相似文献

An experiment with 94 growing pigs was conducted to determine the effect of a feed restriction of 25% on performance, carcass quality, organ weight, blood hormone levels and some biochemical parameters. The experiment consisted of four periods of 21 days each. In the different periods animals (initial BW about 31 kg) were fed ad libitum (A) or restrictively (R), resulting at day 84 in Groups AAAA, AARA, RAAA and RARA. During Period I, the daily gain of restrictively fed pigs (Group R) was about 22% lower than from Group A (p < 0.01). During realimentation, compensatory growth was observed in Period II for Group RA, and in Period IV for Group RARA. No compensatory growth was observed for Group AARA, which was fed restrictively in Period III only (day 43 to 63). For the whole experiment (day 1 to 84), BW gain and feed conversion amounted to 830 g/d and 3.03 kg/kg, 798 g/d and 2.99 kg/kg, 813 g/d and 2.86 kg/kg, and 800 g/d and 2.78 kg/kg for Groups AAAA, AARA, RAAA and RARA, respectively. The decrease of liver and kidney weights as a result of restricted feeding was not significant and after three weeks of realimentation these differences almost disappeared. At day 3 after realimentation of restrictively fed pigs (Group RA) the growth hormone level was significantly increased, but at day 14 of realimentation this level turned out to be lower (p < 0.01) than in pigs fed ad libitum (Group AA). The objective of this study was to estimate genetic and phenotypic correlations of body weight at 6 weeks of age (BW6), as well as final carcass yield, and moisture, protein, fat and ash contents, using data from 3,422 F2 chickens originated from reciprocal cross between a broiler and a layer line. Variance components were estimated by the REML method, using animal models for evaluating random additive genetic and fixed contemporary group (sex, hatch and genetic group) effects. The heritability estimates (h(2)) for BW6, carcass yield and percentage of carcass moisture were 0.31 ± 0.07, 0.20 ± 0.05 and 0.33 ± 0.07, respectively. The h(2) for the percentages of protein, fat and ash on a dry matter basis were 0.48 ± 0.09, 0.55 ± 0.10 and 0.36 ± 0.08, respectively. BW6 had a positive genetic correlation with fat percentage in the carcass, but a negative one with protein and ash contents. Carcass yield, thus, appears to have only low genetic association with carcass composition traits. The genetic correlations observed between traits, measured on a dry matter basis, indicated that selection for carcass protein content may favor higher ash content and a lower percentage of carcass fat. 相似文献

This paper describes an investigation of the use of computer tomography (CT) to genetically improve carcass composition and conformation in Scottish Blackface sheep. After 5 years of selection on an index designed to improve both composition and conformation (the 'CT index'), a large response was observed in the CT index, with genetic progress equivalent to 0.11 phenotypic standard deviations per year. Heritabilities for the index and for the component traits of average CT-assessed muscle area, ultrasonic muscle depth and ultrasonic fat depth were 0.41 (s.e. 0.08), 0.38 (s.e. 0.07), 0.41 (s.e. 0.05) and 0.30 (s.e. 0.05), respectively. The index was positively genetically correlated with ultrasonic muscle depth and carcass weight and negatively genetically correlated with fat class. The genetic and phenotypic correlations among ultrasonic measurements were positive and moderate. However, many of the genetic correlations tended to have large standard errors. Selection on the CT index moderately improved conformation and was successful at decreasing fat class of the carcass. Equivalent selection on live weight at ultrasound scanning would improve carcass and slaughter weight, and total price received, but would have a slightly deleterious impact on conformation score. The results of this study demonstrate that genetic improvement of carcass quality can be achieved in hill sheep using CT assessed traits. 相似文献

Application of test-day models for the genetic evaluation of dairy populations requires the solution of large mixed model equations. The size of the (co)variance matrices required with such models can be reduced through the use of its first eigenvectors. Here, the first two eigenvectors of (co)variance matrices estimated for dairy traits in first lactation were used as covariables to jointly estimate genetic parameters of the first three lactations. These eigenvectors appear to be similar across traits and have a biological interpretation, one being related to the level of production and the other to persistency. Furthermore, they explain more than 95% of the total genetic variation. Variances and heritabilities obtained with this model were consistent with previous studies. High correlations were found among production levels in different lactations. Persistency measures were less correlated. Genetic correlations between second and third lactations were close to one, indicating that these can be considered as the same trait. Genetic correlations within lactation were high except between extreme parts of the lactation. This study shows that the use of eigenvectors can reduce the rank of (co)variance matrices for the test-day model and can provide consistent genetic parameters. 相似文献

A three-step experimental design has been carried out to add evidence about the existence of the RN gene, with two segregating alleles RN- and rn+, having major effects on meat quality in pigs, to estimate its effects on production traits and to map the RN locus. In the present article, the experimental population and sampling procedures are described and discussed, and effects of the three RN genotypes on growth and carcass traits are presented. The RN genotype had no major effect on growth performance and killing out percentage. Variables pertaining to carcass tissue composition showed that the RN- allele is associated with leaner carcasses (about 1 s.d. effect without dominance for back fat thickness, 0.5 s.d. effect with dominance for weights of joints). Muscle glycolytic potential (GP) was considerably higher in RN- carriers, with a maximum of a 6.85 s.d. effect for the live longissimus muscle GP. Physico-chemical characteristics of meat were also influenced by the RN genotype in a dominant way, ultimate pH differing by about 2 s.d. between homozygous genotypes and meat colour by about 1 s.d. Technological quality was also affected, with a 1 s.d. decrease in technological yield for RN- carriers. The RN genotype had a more limited effect on eating quality. On the whole, the identity between the acid meat condition and the RN- allele effect is clearly demonstrated (higher muscle GP, lower ultimate pH, paler meat and lower protein content), and the unfavourable relationship between GP and carcass lean to fat ratio is confirmed. 相似文献

The contribution of chromosomal regions linked to growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) loci to variation in preweaning average daily gain, postweaning average daily gain (ADG), 10th rib backfat, loin-eye area and muscle pH were evaluated. Offspring of four purebred sires (A–D; n = 150, 195, 148 and 136, respectively) and two crossbred sires (E and F; n = 157 and 145, respectively) were genotyped initially with GH and IGF-1 markers. When results of single marker analysis suggested possible linkage with a quantitative trait locus (QTL), additional flanking markers were typed for the family and interval mapping was performed. Growth hormone genotype was not associated with the traits evaluated in the study. Evidence suggestive of linkage was found for IGF-1 genotype and ADG in one sire family (lod = 2·3) where differences were 0.032 ± 0·01 kg/day for alternative sire alleles. Evidence for a putative ADG QTL was greatest in the interval between IGF-1 and Sw1071. A similar genomic region has been associated with growth variation in mice; however, QTL mapping precision in the current study is insufficient to establish similarity. 相似文献

This paper gives a short review of the development of genetic parameter estimation over the last 40 years. The need to analyse genetic processes in both animal selection experiments and animal breeding improvement programmes motivated the majority of this work. The usage of animal model in conjunction with residual maximum likelihood (REML) techniques for mixed models has revolutionized the methods. These methods to estimate quantitative genetic parameters have recently been advocated for use in evolutionary studies of natural populations. Therefore, it is perhaps timely to discuss the development of REML methods and their application to the analysis of artificial selection experiments and breeding programmes in animals. This should give extra insight into the methods and hopefully lead to synergy between both the areas. 相似文献

With the objective of mapping quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for performance and carcass traits, an F2 chicken population was developed by crossing broiler and layer lines. A total of 2063 F2 chicks in 21 full-sib families were reared as broilers and slaughtered at 42 days of age. Seventeen performance and carcass traits were measured. Parental F(0) and F1 individuals were genotyped with 80 microsatellites from chicken chromosome 1 to select informative markers. Thirty-three informative markers were used for selective genotyping of F2 individuals with extreme phenotypes for body weight at 42 days of age (BW42). Based on the regions identified by selective genotyping, seven full-sib families (649 F2 chicks) were genotyped with 26 markers. Quantitative trait loci affecting body weight, feed intake, carcass weight, drums and thighs weight and abdominal fat weight were mapped to regions already identified in other populations. Quantitative trait loci for weights of gizzard, liver, lungs, heart and feet, as well as length of intestine, not previously described in the literature were mapped on chromosome 1. This F2 population can be used to identify novel QTLs and constitutes a new resource for studies of genes related to growth and carcass traits in poultry. 相似文献

母猪繁殖力是影响种猪场经济效益的重要因素。文章对纯种大白猪、长白猪、杜洛克猪的8491窝产仔记录进行统计分析,建立固定效应模型对总产仔数、健仔数、初生窝重、弱仔数、死胎数、木乃伊胎数和畸形胎数共7个繁殖性状进行最小二乘分析,分析胎次、配种季节、品种对母猪繁殖性能的影响,同时比较了纯繁和杂交的效果。利用动物模型REML(约束最大似然)方法估计繁殖性状的遗传力和遗传相关。结果表明,胎次、配种季节和品种对总产仔数、健仔数、初生窝重影响极显著(P<0.001),胎次和品种对弱仔数影响极显著(P<0.001),但配种季节对弱仔数影响不显著。胎次对死胎数影响显著(P<0.05),而配种季节和品种对死胎数影响不显著,胎次、配种季节和品种对木乃伊胎、畸形胎数影响不显著。长白♂×大白♀交配组合具有最高的总产仔数、健仔数和初生窝重。繁殖性状遗传力估计结果显示,长白猪初生窝重的遗传力最高,为0.227。其余性状遗传力均在0.2以下,为低遗传力性状。3个品种母猪的健仔数与初生窝重、总产仔数与健仔数之间的遗传相关达0.96以上。研究结果为降低非传染性因素造成的种母猪产仔数低的问题以及种猪场对母猪繁殖力的选育提高提供了参考数据和理论依据。 相似文献

Growth hormone (GH), insulin-like growth factors 1 and 2 (IGF1 and IGF2) and their associated binding proteins and transmembrane receptors (GHR, IGF1R and IGF2R) play an important role in the physiology of mammalian growth. The objectives of the present study were to estimate the allele and genotype frequencies of microsatellite markers located in the 5'-regulatory region of the IGF1 and GHR genes in beef cattle belonging to different genetic groups and to determine effects of these markers on growth and carcass traits in these animals under an intensive production system. For this purpose, genotyping was performed on 384 bulls including 79 Nellore, 30 Canchim (5/8 Charolais + 3/8 Zebu) and 275 crossbred animals originating from crosses of Simmental (1/2 Simmental, n = 30) and Angus (1/2 Angus, n = 245) sires with Nellore females. The effects of substituting L allele for S allele of GHR microsatellite across Nellore, Canchim and 1/2 Angus were significant for weight gain and body weight (P < 0.05). The IGF1 microsatellite allele substitutions of 229 for 225 within Nellore group and of 225 for 229 within 1/2 Angus were not significant for any of the traits. 相似文献

In this study, quantitative trait loci (QTL) for chemical and physical body composition, growth and feed intake in pigs were identified in a three-generation full-sib population, developed by crossing Pietrain sires with a commercial dam line. Phenotypic data from 315 F2 animals were available for protein and lipid deposition measured in live animals by the deuterium dilution technique at 30-, 60-, 90-, 120- and 140-kg body weight. At 140-kg body weight, carcass characteristics were measured by the AutoFOM grading system and after dissection. Three hundred and eighty-six animals from 49 families were genotyped for 51 molecular markers covering chromosomes SSC2, SSC4, SSC8, SSC9, SSC10 and SSC14. Novel QTL for protein (lipid) content at 60-kg body weight and protein (lipid) accretion from 120 to 140 kg were detected on SSC9 near several previously detected QTL for lean and fat tissue in neck, shoulder and ham cuts. Another QTL for lipid accretion was found on SSC8, closely associated with a QTL for intramuscular fat content. QTL for daily feed intake were detected on SSC2 and SSC10. The favourable allele of a QTL for food conversion ratio (FCR) on SSC2 was associated with alleles for increased lean tissue and decreased fat tissue. Because no QTL for growth rate were found in the region, the QTL for FCR is most likely due to a change in body composition. These QTL provide insights into the genomic regulation of chemical or physical body composition and its association with feed intake, feed efficiency and growth. 相似文献

Myostatin is a regulator of myogenesis and has been implicated in the regulation of adiposity and in controlling the structure and function of tendons. Polymerase Chain Reaction Single-Stranded Conformational Polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) analysis of intron-1 was used to identify five variants (designated A-E) of the myostatin gene ( MSTN ). The effect of this genetic variation on growth and carcass traits was investigated in 517 Romney male lambs from 17 sire-lines, born on a South Island New Zealand farm. General linear mixed effect models revealed that the presence of allele A in a lamb's genotype was associated with decreased leg, loin and total yield of lean meat, whereas the presence of allele B was associated with increased loin yield and proportion loin yield (loin yield divided by total yield expressed as percentage). The effect of the number of allele copies present was investigated, and it was found that the absence of A , or the presence of two copies of B , was associated with increased mean leg yield, loin yield and total yield. Two copies of B were also associated with a decrease in proportion of shoulder yield, whereas two copies of A were associated with a decrease in proportion of loin yield. Associations with allele C were not detected. No associations of MSTN variation with birth weight, weaning weight, pre-weaning growth rate, draft age and hot carcass weight (H-W) were detected. These results suggest that variation in ovine MSTN is associated with meat production, but not birth weight or growth rate in New Zealand Romney sheep. 相似文献

为了研究母体遗传效应对青海细毛羊生长性状、产毛性状的影响,文章采用平均信息最大约束似然法应用不同混合动物模型估计青海细毛羊生产性状的遗传参数,并采用似然比检验对不同模型进行比较分析。各模型中均包括固定效应、个体直接加性遗传效应、残差效应;随机效应为:个体永久环境效应、母体遗传效应、母体永久环境效应。不同模型对随机效应作了不同考虑:模型1不考虑个体永久环境效应、母体遗传效应、母体永久环境效应;模型2考虑母体永久环境效应;模型3考虑母体遗传效应;模型4考虑母体遗传效应和母体永久环境效应;模型5考虑个体永久环境效应和母体遗传效应;模型6考虑个体永久环境效应、母体遗传效应、母体永久环境效应。各模型估计的初生重遗传力为:0.1896~0.3781;断奶重遗传力为:0.2537~0.2890;周岁重遗传力范围:0.2244~0.3225;成年羊体重遗传力范围:0.2205~0.3983;产毛量遗传力为:0.1218~0.1490;羊毛细度遗传力为:0.0983~0.4802;羊毛长度遗传力为:0.1170~0.1311。与模型1相比,模型3对于初生重、断奶重差异显著(P<0.01),对于周岁重、成年羊体重各模型与模型1的似然比检验差异不显著(P>0.05);与模型6相比,模型4、5对于羊毛细度差异显著(P<0.01),模型4对羊毛长度差异显著(P<0.05),对于产毛量各模型与模型6似然比检验差异不显著(P>0.05)。生长性状中初生重、断奶重受母体遗传效应影响显著,周岁重、成年羊体重受母体遗传效应影响不显著;产毛性状中羊毛细度、长度受母体遗传效应影响显著,产毛量受母体遗传效应影响较弱。 相似文献

The association between carcass and ham traits in a pig population used to produce dry-cured ham was studied using canonical correlation analysis. The carcass traits examined were hot carcass weight (HCW), backfat thickness (BT) and loin depth (LD), and the ham traits studied were gross ham weight (GHW), trimmed ham weight (THW), ham inner layer fat thickness (HIFT), ham outer layer fat thickness (HOFT), pH (pH) and the Göfo value. Carcass and ham traits are not independent. The canonical correlations (r) between the carcass and ham traits at 130 kg were 0.77, 0.24 and 0.20 for the first, second and third canonical pair, respectively, and were all significant (p < 0.01) by the Wilks test. The corresponding canonical correlations between the three canonical variate pairs for the carcass and ham traits at 160 kg were 0.88, 0.42 and 0.14, respectively (p < 0.05 for all, except the third). The correlations between the traits and their canonical variate showed an association among HCW, GHW and THW, and between BT and HOFT. These results indicate that carcass traits should be used to cull pigs that are not suitable for dry-cured ham production. 相似文献

A quantitative trait locus (QTL) study was carried out in two countries, recording live animal and carcass composition traits. Back-cross calves (385 heifers and 398 steers) were generated, with Jersey and Limousin breed backgrounds. The New Zealand cattle were reared on pasture to carcass weights averaging 229 kg, whilst the Australian cattle were reared on grass and finished on grain (for at least 180 days) to carcass weights averaging 335 kg. From 11 live animal traits and 31 carcass composition traits respectively, 5 and 22 QTL were detected in combined-sire analyses, which were significant ( P < 0.05) on a genome-wise basis. Fourteen significant traits for carcass composition QTL were on chromosome 2 and these were traits associated with muscling and fatness. This chromosome carried a variant myostatin allele (F94L), segregating from the Limousin ancestry. Despite very different cattle management systems between the two countries, the two populations had a large number of QTL in common. Of the 18 traits which were common to both countries, and which had significant QTL at the genome-wise level, eight were significant in both countries. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to test fermentation, for its products of a Chinese medicinal mushroom, Ganoderma lucidum, cultured by submerged fermentation for its effect on growth performance and immunocompetence in weanling piglets. In Experiment 1, 72 weanling piglets were allotted to one of four treatments receiving these fermentation products (GLF, expressed as amount of β-glucans) at 0 (control), 50, 100, and 150 mg/kg feed for 4 weeks. The results showed that at a supplementation level of 50 mg/kg feed, GLF caused the best growth performance, the highest pseudorabies antibody titre, and a decrease of blood glucose level. It was also demonstrated that GLF up-regulated the cell-mediated immune response related cytokines (IL-2, IFN-γ, and TNF-α) expression in different lymphoid tissues. After challenging with porcine circovirus (PCV) type 2 (Experiment 2), a supplementation with 50 mg GLF per kg feed also inhibited PCV-2 virus amplification, and ameliorated lymphocyte depletion in different lymphoid tissues. Conclusively, feed supplemented with GLF at 50 mg/kg could be beneficial to counteract the physiological stress in weanling piglets. 相似文献

Due to the diversification of farming systems and climate change, farm animals are exposed to environmental disturbances to which they respond differently depending on their robustness. Disturbances such as heat stress or sanitary challenges (not always recorded, especially when they are of short duration and low intensity) have a transitory impact on animals, resulting in changes in phenotypes of production (feed intake, BW, etc.). The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of such unknown disturbances on the estimated genetic parameters and breeding values (BV) for production traits. A population of 6 120 individuals over five generations divided into eight batches of 10 pens was generated, each individual underwent an ?100-day test period. A longitudinal phenotype mimicking piglet weight during the fattening period was simulated for each individual in two situations: disturbed and non-disturbed. The disturbed phenotype was modified according to the robustness of the animal and the intensity and duration of the disturbance that the animal was subjected to. Various sets of simulations (1 000 replicates per set) were considered depending on the type of disturbance (at the level of the batch, pen, or individual), the genetic correlation (negative, neutral, or positive) between the two components of the robustness (resistance and resilience), the genetic correlation (negative, neutral, or positive) between growth and the components of robustness, and the heritability of the components of robustness (weak or moderate). An animal model was used to estimate the genetic parameters and BV for two production traits: the BW at 100 days of age (BW100) and average daily gain (ADG). The estimated heritability of the production traits was lower in the disturbed situation compared to the non-disturbed one (reduction of 0.08 and 0.05 points respectively for BW100 and ADG). The correlations between estimated breeding values of the observed phenotypes (EBV) and BV for production traits in absence of disturbance were lower in the disturbed situation (reduction of 0.04 and 0.06 points for BW100 and ADG respectively) while the partial correlation between EBV and BV for robustness was not significantly different from 0 in the two situations. These results suggest that selection in a well-controlled environment with random disturbances of low intensities does not allow to improve animal robustness while it is less effective for improving production traits than selection under no environmental disturbances. 相似文献
