Effects of GABA-B agonist baclofen (1, 2.5, 5 pg/kg, i. p.) on sexual and anxiety reactions and olfactory perception in C57Bl/6J male mice with different psychoemotional statuses (intact, aggressive, submissive) were studied. Baclofen increased time of finding olfactory bait. Baclofen's effects depend from psychoemotional statuses of animals. In intact males, baclofen carries anxiolytic effects and increase of sexual motivation; in submissive males, the drug does not influence on anxiety level, but prevents sexual interest from reduction; in aggressive males, baclofen increases anxiety level, but restores decreased sexual motivation.  相似文献

Effects of diazepam (0.1, 0.5 and 1 microg/kg, i. p.) on communicative, anxious behaviors, exploratory activities and sexual motivation of C57BL/6J male mice with alternative psychoemotional statuses (intact and anxious) were studied. Increased level on anxiety was formed by sensory contacts technique. Behavioral effects of diazepam depend on initial psycho-emotional status of animals. The compound has an anxiolytic effect in new situation on anxious males but does not have it in situation of social contacts. Diazepam reinforces initial sexual interest in anxious mice; however, it does not enable correct exhaustion of sexual motivation. Furthermore, the compound provokes development of the exhaustion in intact male mice.  相似文献

The behaviour was studied of male mice of CBA/Lac and C57BL/6j lines near transparent perforated partition in reaction to syngeneic partner which was in adjacent department of the common cage. The number of approaches to the partition and total time of staying near it during testing were used as behaviour parameters. Then the partition was removed and the success or defeat of each individual in agonistic collision and parameters of aggressive reaction of the winner male mouse were fixed. It turned out that future winners spent significantly more time near the partition than future losers. By the correlative analysis reliable interconnections were established between individuals activity near the partition (number of approaches or total time of staying) and intensity of aggression (number or total time of attacks) which reflects the level of the aggressive motivation. Variation is observed of individual correlating parameters depending on animals genotype and conditions of their keeping.  相似文献

The relevance of using the social contact test "Peregorodka" for investigation into sexual motivation in male mice, was checked and confirmed. A positive correlation was found between behavioural patterns manifested by the males near a transparent septum with holes separating them from receptive females and the males' subsequent sexual behaviour. Experience of victories as well as defeats in social conflicts was found not to interfere with occurrence of sexual motivation of the same intensity as in control animals. In the latter, however, sexual motivation was stable in time whereas in the model males its gradual decrease occurred within the 30-min test period. The findings suggest fast exhaustion of the sexual motivation in mice under conditions of prolonged social conflicts irrespective of either victories or defeats.  相似文献

Subpopulation spectrum of T lymphocytes (CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD25+, and CD3(+)25+) in thymus, spleen and inguinal lymphatic nodes have been studied in male mice after 20 days of psychoemotional stress produced by social defeats in daily agonistic confrontations. A reduction of total number of cells, of absolute numbers of all researched subpopulations of lymphocytes and % CD3+ cells in thymus of submissive mice was shown in comparison with intact animals. Reduction of total number of splenocytes and absolute numbers of CD4+ and CD8+ lymphocytes has been observed in a spleen of submissive mice. Besides, % CD3+, CD25+, CD4+ and CD25+ cells were increased in these animals in comparison with intact mice. The absolute number of cells with CD8 phenotype was increased in inguinal lymphatic nodes. The data obtained suggest that the chronic psychoemotional stress is accompanied by serious changes of the cellular link of immunity. The effect of chronic emotional social stress on mutual interaction of the central and peripheral links of immunity has been discussed.  相似文献

The sensory contact technique allows an aggressive type of behavior to be formed as a result of repeated experience of social victories in daily agonistic confrontations. In mice of the low-aggressive and high-emotional CBA/Lac strain repeated positive fighting experience increases plus-maze anxiety. Behavioral reactivity of males to other conspecifics in the partition test (which measures aggressive motivation) significantly rises. It is concluded that repeated experience of aggression provokes the development of anxiety in male mice. The results suggest that level of anxiety and its behavioral realization depend on duration of aggressive experience and genetic strain.  相似文献

In male rats, oxytocin impacts both sexual arousal and certain types of consummatory sexual behaviors. However, the role of oxytocin in the motivational aspects of sexual behavior has received limited attention. Given the role that oxytocin signaling plays in consummatory sexual behaviors, it was hypothesized that pharmacological attenuation of oxytocin signaling would reduce sexual motivation in male rats. Sexually experienced Long-Evans male rats were administered either an oxytocin receptor antagonist (L368,899 hydrochloride; 1 mg/kg) or vehicle control into the intraperitoneal cavity 40 min prior to placement into the center chamber of a three-chambered arena designed to assess sexual motivation. During the 20-minute test, a sexually experienced stimulus male rat and a sexually receptive stimulus female rat were separately confined to smaller chambers that were attached to the larger end chambers of the arena. However, physical contact between test and stimulus rats was prevented by perforated dividers. Immediately following the sexual motivation test, test male rats were placed with a sexually receptive female to examine consummatory sexual behaviors. Although both drug and vehicle treated rats exhibited a preference for the female, treatment with an oxytocin receptor antagonist decreased the amount of time spent with the female. There were no differences between drug and vehicle treated rats in either general activity, exploratory behaviors, the amount of time spent near the stimulus male rat, or consummatory sexual behaviors. Extending previous findings, these results indicate that oxytocin receptors are involved in sexual motivation in male rats.  相似文献

Shoot status, such as orientation and connection to the root system, and sediment burial depth after flooding disturbances have important ecological consequences on the post-flooding growth and vegetative reproduction of emergent macrophytes in wetlands. In the present study, we investigated the effect of shoot status (vertical, prostrate, or detached) and sediment burial depth (0.5 or 10 cm) on biomass accumulation and propagule production in Phalaris arundinacea (Poaceae) using an outdoor mesocosm system. In contrast to our prediction that shallow sediment burial would activate the axillary buds on prostrate shoots and regenerate more ramets, significantly fewer new ramets, rhizomes, buds, and biomass accumulation formed in P. arundinacea as the shoots changed from vertical to prostrate. Deeper sediment burial resulted in lower biomass and propagule production in plants with prostrate shoots, whereas vertical shoots increased the number of ramets. P arundinacea with detached shoots also produced a number of propagules after shallow or deep sediment burial, which might be important for the long-distance dispersal of P. arundinacea. These results suggest that P. arundinacea is a potentially invasive species in many lacustrine wetlands, particularly those with a high sedimentation rate, due to its high capacity for vegetative propagation.  相似文献

The effects of chronic treatment (30 days) with the 5-HT1A receptor partial agonist buspirone (0.05, 1 and 10 mg/kg i.p.) on the behaviour of C57BL/6J female mice exposed to long-lasting psychoemotional influence were studied. The influence involved forced living of each female with an aggressive male separated with a perforated transparent partition in the same cage and daily female's presence during 10-min intermale confrontations behind a partition caused by introducing of another male to the aggressive male. Chronic buspirone injection (in all used doses) did not affect the behaviour of females estimated in the "partitions" and "open field" tests at the end of the drug treatment. The anxiolytic effect of buspirone only at the dose of 1 mg/kg on the female's plus-maze behaviour was revealed. In the Porsolt, test buspirone in the dose of 1 mg/kg caused a slight increase in the duration of immobility indicating a slight pro-depressive effect. Thus, chronic buspirone treatment of females exposed to the long-lasting psychoemotional impact has a different effect on their behaviour depending on the dose and test conditions.  相似文献

The selenoprotein, cellular glutathione peroxidase (cGPx), has an important role in protecting organisms from oxidative damage through reducing levels of harmful peroxides. The liver and kidney in particular, have important roles in selenium (Se) metabolism and Se is excreted predominantly in urine and feces. In order to characterize the dynamics of these pathways we have measured the time-dependent changes in the quantities of hepatic, renal, urinary, and fecal Se species in mice fed Se-adequate and Se-deficient diets after injection of (82)Se-enriched selenite. Exogenous (82)Se was transformed to cGPx in both the liver and kidney within 1 h after injection and the synthesis of cGPx decreased 1 to 6 h and continued at a constant level from 6 to 72 h after injection. The total amount of Se associated with cGPx in mice fed Se-deficient diets was found to be less than in mice fed Se-adequate diets. This finding indicated that cGPx synthesis was suppressed under Se-deficient conditions and did not recover with selenite injection. Excess Se was associated with selenosugar in liver and transported to the kidney within 1 h after injection, and then excreted in urine and feces within 6 h after injection. Any excess amount of Se was excreted mainly as a selenosugar in urine.  相似文献

Both sexes of Atlantic salmon Salmo salar were very sensitive to the absence of their mate on the spawning ground, particularly females during the last hour before oviposition. The improvement of behavioural chaining just before viposition might elicit the accurate timing of synchronized gamete release for successful fertilization. While the reproductive behaviour of the opposite sex could largely affect breeding activity, relative mate size appeared to be the prevailing sexual motivation factor in this species. Even in the absence of courtship, large mate size may constitute a supra-stimulus inducing an increase in spawning behaviour of the other sex. Females with smaller males delayed their first spawning activity, took longer to spawn and made more nests than those with large males. However, female egg retention was not influenced by relative male size.  相似文献

Social and sexual behavior of males Wistar and senescence-accelerated OXYS rats was studied. The experimental model excluding direct interaction between partners showed that the exploratory activity decreased with aging in rats of both strains, but social motivation didn't change. No interstrain differences in intensity of sexual motivation in the presence of an inaccessible receptive female were observed in 4-month rats. The level of sexual motivation of 12-month Wistar rats didn't differ from that of 4-month animals. However, in 12-month OXYS males, sexual motivation was decreased as compared to both 4- and 12-month Wistar rats. The same regularities were found under conditions of direct interaction with a partner. Behavioral changes in 12-month OXYS rats were considered as genetically determinate abnormality at the initial stage of sexual behavior, i.e., sexual motivation. The results suggest the accelerated senescence of the reproductive system of OXYS rats.  相似文献

Experiments were designed to examine the influence of either one or both parents on the sexual maturation of male mice. A pregnant female and an adult vasectomized male were housed together and, at delivery, the litter was reduced to 6 pups, 3 of each sex. After weaning, mother, foster-father or both, stayed in cohabitation with their pups until sacrifice. The results showed that: (1) the permanent presence of one or both parents did not affect either testicular growth or the age at first fertile matings. (2) in maturing males (30-40 days), seminal vesicle growth was accelerated by the presence of the mother, inhibited by the presence of the foster-father. (3) in maturing males, the presence of one or both parents lowered plasma testosterone levels. On the opposite, in 90-day-old males, the same conditions increased testosterone levels. These results indicate that only the endocrine function of the testis is affected by the parental environment. The effects are age-dependent.  相似文献

Incidence of sex chromosome aneuploidy in men is as high as 1:500. The predominant conditions are an additional Y chromosome (47,XYY) or an additional X chromosome (47,XXY). Behavioral studies using animal models of these conditions are rare. To assess the role of sex chromosome aneuploidy on sexual behavior, we used mice with a spontaneous mutation on the Y chromosome in which the testis-determining gene Sry is deleted (referred to as Y) and insertion of a Sry transgene on an autosome. Dams were aneuploid (XXY) and the sires had an inserted Sry transgene (XY Sry ). Litters contained six male genotypes, XY, XYY, XX Sry , XXY Sry , XY Sry and XYY Sry . In order to eliminate possible differences in levels of testosterone, all of the subjects were castrated and received testosterone implants prior to tests for male sex behavior. Mice with an additional copy of the Y chromosome (XYY) had shorter latencies to intromit and achieve ejaculations than XY males. In a comparison of the four genotypes bearing the Sry transgene, males with two copies of the X chromosome (XX Sry and XXY Sry ) had longer latencies to mount and thrust than males with only one copy of the X chromosome (XY Sry and XYY Sry ) and decreased frequencies of mounts and intromissions as compared with XY Sry males. The results implicate novel roles for sex chromosome genes in sexual behaviors.  相似文献

Objective: To compare oral health in nursing home (NH) residents with different cognitive statuses. Background: Oral health is a significant issue for NH residents because of its relationships to quality of life, systemic health and well‐being. It is known that oral health is poor in NH residents. However, how oral health differs in NH residents with different cognitive statuses remains unclear. Materials and methods: Nine hundred and two NH residents were retrospectively recruited from a community‐based geriatric dental clinic in Minnesota, USA. Comprehensive medical, dental, cognitive and functional assessments were completed for the participants. On the basis of medical history and cognitive status, participants were categorized into three groups: without cognitive impairment (non‐impaired group), with cognitive impairment but no dementia (impaired group) and with dementia (demented group). ANOVA, Chi‐square and Fisher’s exact tests were used to compare medical, dental and functional statuses between groups. Results: Oral hygiene was poor in NH residents. Forty per cent of participants in the impaired group were edentulous, significantly higher than the edentulism rate in the demented group (29%, p = 0.01). More than 60% of the participants lost 16 or more teeth prior to examination. Depending on their cognitive status, 82–92% of the participants arrived with one or more caries or retained root. Dentate participants in the impaired and demented groups averaged about six caries or retained roots, significantly more than 4.7 caries or retained roots in the non‐impaired group (p = 0.01). Conclusion: Oral health was poor but slightly different in NH residents with different cognitive and functional statuses.  相似文献

It is well established that male sexual behavior (MSB) is regulated by gonadal steroids; however, individual differences in MSB, independent of gonadal steroids, are prevalent across a wide range of species, and further investigation is necessary to advance our understanding of steroid-independent MSB. Studies utilizing B6D2F1 hybrid male mice in which a significant proportion retain MSB after long-term orchidectomy, identified as steroid-independent-maters (SI-maters), have begun to unravel the genetic underpinnings of steroid-independent MSB. A recent study demonstrated that steroid-independent MSB is a heritable behavioral phenotype that is mainly passed down from B6D2F1 hybrid SI-maters when crossed with C57BL6J female mice. To begin to uncover whether the strain of the dam plays a role in the inheritance of steroid-independent MSB, B6D2F1 hybrid females were crossed with B6D2F1 hybrid males. While the present study confirms the finding that steroid-independent MSB is a heritable behavioral phenotype and that SI-mater sires are more likely to pass down some components of MSB than SI-non-maters to their offspring, it also reveals that the B6D2F2 male offspring that were identified as SI-maters that displayed the full repertoire of steroid-independent MSB had the same probability of being sired from either a B6D2F1 SI-mater or SI-non-mater. These results, in conjunction with previous findings, indicate that the specific chromosomal loci pattern that codes for steroid-independent MSB in the B6D2F2 male offspring may result regardless of whether the father was a SI-mater or SI-non-mater, and that the maternal strain may be an important factor in the inheritance of steroid-independent MSB.  相似文献

We previously found that male aromatase knockout (ArKO) mice that carry a targeted mutation in exons 1 and 2 of the CYP19 gene and as a result cannot aromatize androgen to estrogen show impaired sexual behavior in adulthood. To determine whether this impairment was due to a lack of activation of sexual behavior by estradiol, we studied here male coital behavior as well as olfactory investigation of sexually relevant odors in male ArKO mice following adult treatment with estradiol benzoate (EB) or dihydrotestosterone propionate (DHTP). Again, we found that gonadally intact ArKO males show pronounced behavioral deficits affecting their male coital behavior as well as their olfactory investigation of volatile body odors but not that of soiled bedding. Deficits in male coital behavior were largely corrected following adult treatment with EB and the androgen DHTP, suggesting that estradiol has prominent activational effects on this behavior. By contrast, adult treatment with EB to either castrated or gonadally intact ArKO males did not stimulate olfactory investigation of volatile body odors, suggesting that this impairment may result from a lack of proper organization of this behavior during ontogeny due to the chronic lack of estrogens. In conclusion, the present studies suggest that the behavioral deficits in sexual behavior in male ArKO mice result predominantly from a lack of activation of the behavior by estrogens. This is in contrast with earlier pharmacological studies performed on rats and ferrets that have suggested strong organizational effects of estradiol on male sexual behavior.  相似文献

The sexual maturation of male mice reared under constant laboratory conditions was studied in animals born in different months of the year. The body weights were significantly affected by the month of birth. Males born in March and May were heavier at 4 and 5 weeks of age than those born in autumn and winter. As indicated by the relative weights of accessory glands, males born in spring matured earlier compared with animals born in other months of the year. Variation in the relative testicular weights during maturation was not influenced by the month of birth. Female mice also showed a significant relationship between the month of birth and sexual maturation. Females born in March reached puberty, as measured by the age of vaginal opening and first oestrus, earlier than those born in other months of the year.  相似文献

Administration of 0.50 mg or 1.00 mg progesterone (P) daily resulted in suppression of portions of the male sexual repertoire. Mice treated with 0.25 mg P daily behaved like control subjects. Sexual behavior of mice treated with the higher P doses resembled that of controls three weeks after cessation of P treatment. No lasting effects of P on total body weight or on weights of testes or seminal vesicles were detected.  相似文献
