Taraxacum officinala andTaraxacum laevigatum were grown in mixed stands at various plant densities and mixing ratios with various levels of soil moisture to formulate the effect of soil moisture on the competitive relationship between the species. In pure stands, the mean plant weight—plant density relation for each level of soil moisture could be described by the reciprocal equation of the crowding effect. On the other hand, the response of mean plant weight to soil moisture content followed the reciprocal equation for a repulsive growth factor at the respective levels of plant density. By introducing the density conversion factor, the results of mixed stands could be successfully formulated from similar reciprocal equations. The dependence of density conversion factor on soil moisture content was also formulated. From these relations, a comprehensive formula was developed to describe the effects of plant density and soil moisture content on the growth of two species in mixed stands. Changes in the biomass in mixed stands were, examined by means of calculations based on the experimental results.  相似文献

The capitular and floral morphology and anatomy ofBidens L. andCoreopsis L. were studied. All the North American species ofCoreopsis were studied. Selected species ofBidens from North and South America andCoreopsis from South America were included. The results were compared with previous observations on African species ofBidens (incl.Coreopsis). Emphasis was given to character states of the ray florets, paleae, stylearm apices, outer phyllaries, achenes, and pollen grains. Some of the character states are unique features ofCoreopsis, e.g., globular and elongately conical receptacles, deltoid outer phyllaries, truncate and indistinctly 3–5-dentate, 3–4-lobed ray florets, narrowly spathulate paleae, subulate paleae with linear-filiform upper half, hairy and apically 3-cleft paleae, truncate, convex or shallowly conical stylearm apices with the sweeping hairs limited to the area above the stigmatic surfaces and the orbicular to circular achenes. The cylindric setaceous pappus bristles so commonly encountered inBidens are unknown inCoreopsis. The pappus bristles inCoreopsis are paleaceous but similar, though thicker ones are also found in African species ofBidens (incl.Coreopsis) with winged achenes. Twin-celled hairs (setulae) with differing degrees of wall thickness are found on the achenes ofCoreopsis sect.Pseudoagarista (Mexico and South America),Coreopsis sect.Pugiopappus (California), AfricanBidens with winged achenes (e.g.,B. prestinaria, B. macroptera) and some North AmericanBidens (e.g.,B. aristosa). Similar sclerotic parenchyma make up the achenial wings of species in both genera. These may be interpreted as homologous structures, indicating the underlying similarity of these taxa and their derivation from a common ancestral stock.  相似文献

Summary A factorial experiment with two controlled factors was conducted in the greenhouse with Acacia Senegal seedlings. The substrate was a degraded sandy soil (Dior soil) poor in available P (11 ppm — Olsen). The first controlled factor was soil sterilization, with two levels: (A) sterilized soil; (B) non-sterilized soil. The second factor was fertilization, with six levels: (1) uninoculated control; (2) inoculation with Rhizobium (ORS 1007); (3) inoculation with Glomus mosseae; (4) double inoculation with ORS 1007 and G. mosseae; (5) inoculation with ORS 1007 and 30 ppm phosphorus per plant; (6) inoculation with ORS 1007 and 60 ppm phosphours. The combination of the two factors and their levels led to 12 different plant treatments (A1–A6 and B1–B6). Compared to the control B1, the B5 and B6 treatments containing phosphorus increased: nodule dry weight about 7 times ; leaf dry weight about 4 times ; total N, P and Mg 4–5 times; total K and Ca 3–4 times. The mycorrhizal inoculation had the same positive effect on plant growth and mineral composition but with lower values. Plants inoculated with Rhizobium alone gave the lowest results. The A1 treatment gave lower values than B1. Foliar mineral contents varied within a narrow range (20–30%).  相似文献

Summary Growth and nodulation ofAcacia spp. in sand increased with increase in soil moisture to an optimum at 15 per cent soil moisture and this agreed with the occurrence of these species in the more moist sites reported by other workers. TheAcacia species grew and produced effective nodules at up to 35°C and this is the highest temperature for nodulation so far recorded. It indicated adaptation of these species to the warm and dry conditions of the fields. Soil reaction affected nodulation more than it affected plant growth. At pH 5–5.5 nodulation was absent while plant growth was as good as at pH 6.5–7.0 which was the optimum level for both growth and effective nodulation. The latter were reduced at pH 8.5–9.0 and therefore the alkaline reaction of the soils in Northern Sudan may be a factor influencing growth of Acacia in that region.  相似文献

The response of rice toAzolla caroliniana, newly introduced in India, was compared with the reponse to the local isolate ofAzolla pinnata at varying rates of phosphate fertilizer (4.4–8.8 kg P ha–1) during a wet and a dry season.Fresh weight, dry weight and fixed N were more for both species 21 DAI (days after inoculation) than 14 DAI, but acetylene reduction activity (ARA) was higher 14 DAI than 21 DAI. Dry weight of Azolla and fixed N were less 14 DAI forA. caroliniana than forA. pinnata during the wet season. Twenty-one DAI, fresh weight ofA. caroliniana was 62.1 and 27.6% higher than that ofA. pinnata during the wet and dry season, respectively. However, dry weight and fixed N were more 21 DAI inA. caroliniana than inA. pinnata during only the wet season. The ARA was higher inA. caroliniana both 14 and 21 DAI, irrespective of season. The presence of either species in the rice field increased grain yield, straw yield, number of panicles m–2, number of grains per panicle and reduced percentage sterility during both the wet and the dry season. Phosphate application significantly increased fresh weight, dry weight, ARA and fixed N for both species as well as grain and straw yields of rice. The responses to phosphate fertilizer were similar for both Azolla species and for rice grown with either one of the Azolla species.  相似文献

To examine how soil phosphorus status affects nitrogen fixation by the Casuarinaceae —Frankia symbiosis,Casuarina equisetifolia and two species ofAllocasuarina (A. torulosa andA. littoralis) inoculated or fertilized with KNO3 were grown in pots in an acid soil at 4 soil phosphate levels. InoculatedC. equisetifolia nodulated well by 12 weeks after planting and the numbers and weight of nodules increased markedly with phosphorus addition. Growth ofC. equisetifolia dependent on symbiotically fixed nitrogen was more sensitive to low levels of phosphorus (30 mg kg–1 soil) than was growth of seedings supplied with combined nitrogen; at higher levels of phosphorus, the growth response curves were similar for both nitrogen fertilized and inoculated plants. The interaction between phosphorus and nitrogen treatments (inoculated and nitrogen fertilized) demonstrated that there was a greater requirement of phosphorus for symbiotic nitrogen fixation than for plant growth when soil phosphorus was low.WithAllocasuarina species, large plant to plant variation in nodulation occurred both within pots and between replicates. This result suggests genetic variation in nodulation withinAllocasuarina species. Nodulation ofAllocasuarina species did not start until 16 weeks after planting and no growth response due toFrankia inoculation was obtained at the time of harvest. Addition of nitrogen starter is suggested to boost plant growth before the establishment of the symbiosis. Growth ofAllocasuarina species fertilized with nitrogen responded to increasing levels of phosphorus up to 90 mg P/kg soil after which it declined by 69% forA. littoralis. The decrease in shoot weight ofA. littoralis, A. torulosa, C. equisetifolia andC. cunninghamiana at high phosphorus was confirmed in a sand culture experiment, and may be atributable to phosphorus toxicity.  相似文献

A field survey was conducted in a semi-arid region of Inner Mongolia, China, to clarify the ecological characteristics ofAgriophyllum squarrosum (Chenopodiacea), which is an ephemeral in shifting sand dunes. The habitat ofA. squarrosum is extremely unstable, that is, the surface substrate frequently shifts, the soil water-content is highly variable and the site does not permit the growth of any other plant species.Agriophyllum squarrosum is able to invade as a pioneer because of the elongation of its fine roots, which are well adapted to dry sandy soil and able to penetrate deep soil layers containing moisture. The biomass and the pod numbers increased under conditions where enough water was supplied. However the biomass at sites where the wind was strong was relatively small.  相似文献

Summary Nodes ofMedicago sativa, Lotus corniculatus, Lotus tenuis, andLotus pedunculatus were cultured on MS basal media with different growth regulators. InM. sativa each node produced one shoot and the apical dominance was unaffected by high levels of cytokinins, and subsequent cycles of culture. Shoot development was stimulated by the presence ofN 6-isopentenyl-adenine in the culture medium and was dependent on the genotype of the explant. Shoot development was not affected by the original position of the node on the plant nor by the plant age. Shoots rooted in MS medium gelled with starch and containing 2 mg·liter−1 indol-3-acetic acid. In the threeLotus species, node culture was a more effective technique than inM. sativa. The number of shoots per node increased with the time of culture and with the presence of 0.05 mg·liter−1 of 6-benzylaminopurine. The highest number of shoots derived from one node was achieved inL. pedunculatus and inL. tenuis by culturing single nodes, whereas inL. corniculatus stem segments had to be totally covered by the medium for success. Rooting was easily achieved in MS medium with or without auxins.  相似文献

Summary A factor that represses asexual embryogenesis has been observed in the Rutaceae, with particularly high concentrations in the naturally monoembryonic cultivars. This investigation was an initial step towards identifying the factor.Citrus reticulata Blanco Ponkan mandarin nucellus explants andDaucus carota L. ‘Queen Anne's Lace’ callus were employed to examine effects of known plant growth regulators and to determine possible identity of one or more of them with the repressive factor. The chalazal halves of ovules ofC. media L. ‘Citron of Commerce’ were used as control repressor source. Embryo initiation and growth of both test tissues were depressed markedly by 2,4-D, abscisic acid and ethephon. Slight inhibitions were obtained with IAA, kinetin and gibberellic acid. Recovery from the repressor did not occur readily inCitrus nucellus following recultures in citron-ovule-free medium; carrot callus resumed normal embryogenesis immediately upon transfer to suppressor-free medium. The repression by natural sources apparently involved the combined action of some or all natural hormones that are generically related to the above. This paper is part of B. Previous studies have shown that the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus (AMF) Glomus deserticola (Trappe, Bloss and Menge) can diminish the negative effect of Verticillium dahliae Kleb. on pepper yield. On the other hand, it is known that AMF can be more beneficial for plant growth and physiology under dry conditions than when soil moisture is plentiful. Therefore, our objective was to assess if a moderate water deficit imposed on pepper plants before their inoculation with V. dahliae could improve the effectiveness of G. deserticola as biocontrol agent. In the present experiment, the delay in disease development in Verticillium-inoculated plants associated with AMF did not occur under well watered conditions. In addition, the establishment of mycorrhizal symbiosis and the development of structures by AMF were delayed when both symbiotic and pathogenic fungi infected the same root. Therefore, it is suggested that the equilibrium between pepper plant, G. deserticola and V. dahliae is so complex that small changes in competition between symbiotic and pathogenic fungi for host resources can modify the efficiency of AMF as a biocontrol agent. On the other hand, water deficit enhanced the deleterious effect of V. dahliae on fruit set and yield only when pepper plants were not associated with G. deserticola, which reinforces the idea that AMF may be more important for host plants subjected to stressful conditions. However, comparing well watered non-mycorrhizal and predroughted mycorrhizal plants, we found that moderate water deficit imposed before inoculation with V. dahliae did not improve the effectiveness of G. deserticola as a biocontrol agent.  相似文献

In order to understand the human impact upon demographic change in plant population in rural forests, we examined the population trends ofPinus densiflora andQuercus serrata inP. densiflora forests viewing their seedlings and saplings in rural Korea and Japan. The most prominent factor affecting the regeneration of the pine and oak was the intensity of management activity which controlled the vegetation stratification and its light environment. Open spaces, such as graveyard or cleaned area that allow the long-term direct daylight in dry season to accelerate the surface heat of soil, were unfavorable habitats for germination and growth of both species. The negative effects of the presence of litter and evergreen trees were related to the failure of early seedling and sapling growth of pine. Cover of litter is, especially, another factor related to the growth of pine saplings. It is considered that successful germination and sapling growth of pine and oak in early successional stages is determined by vegetation structures and light condition.  相似文献

[目的] 探索香蕉园施用白花鬼针草的可行性。[方法] 采用培养皿萌发试验生物测定法,以发芽率、发芽势、发芽指数、活力指数等化感效应指标评价白花鬼针草对蕉园4种优势杂草的化感作用,同时通过盆栽模拟试验探讨香蕉园施用白花鬼针草后杂草、香蕉和土壤三者的关系。[结果] 当白花鬼针草浸提液浓度为0.0125 g·mL-1时,对马唐综合化感效应为促进作用,对短叶水蜈蚣、牛筋草、柔弱斑种草综合化感效应为抑制作用,白花鬼针草浸提液浓度为0.025~0.1 g·mL-1,对4种受体杂草综合化感效应均为抑制作用;白花鬼针草处理具有降低种子发芽率,延缓种子发芽时间的作用,同时对杂草萌发后的鲜重有微弱促进作用,但这种促进作用较弱,综合化感效应表现为抑制作用。随着白花鬼针草茎、叶施用量的增加,控草增效作用不断提升,当施用量为400 g·株-1时,控草增效作用最佳,对杂草综合株防效为78.99%,综合鲜重防效为70.60%,香蕉苗生物量增加19.79%,土壤有机碳、碱解氮、速效钾依次增加8.72%、10.36%、16.30%。[结论] 本研究初步探明了在香蕉园施用白花鬼针草具有防控蕉园优势杂草、提高土壤肥力和促进香蕉生长的效应。  相似文献

Summary Elicitation of sesquiterpenoid aldehyde phytoalexins inGossypium arboreum cell suspension cultures was confirmed by thin layer chromatography, high performance reverse phase liquid chromatography, and an aniline-reaction assay after inoculation with heat-treated conidia ofVerticillium dahliae A 2.3X mean increase in total terpenoids was observed. Component phytoalexins varied, with either hemigossypol and gossypol being detected or the O-methylated terpenoids hemigossypol-6-methyl ether and related compounds. Long-termGossypium suspension cultures were mixoploid with an increase in chromosome number and mean DNA content. Addition ofV. dahliae elicitor(s) to the medium for embryo-proliferating callus ofG. hirsutum inhibited growth and embryo production with a linear correlation (r=−0.87;P<0.01) between the elicitor concentration and the number of embryos. Addition of14C-labeled NaOAc to suspension cells gave 30% incorporation, and from13C-NaOAc addition, labeled sesquiterpenoid aldehydes were recovered. The cotton-Verticillium system is another case of secondary metabolite elicitation in plant tissue culture and might be used for basic studies of hostpathogen interaction as well as for a selection tool to obtain resistance to an important disease.  相似文献

The effects of soil type (an acid peat and 2 acid brown earths) andFrankia source (3 spore-positive crushed nodule inocula and spore-negative crushed nodules containing the singleFrankia ArI5) on nodulation, N content and growth ofAlnus glutinosa andA. rubra were determined in a glasshouse pot experiment of two years duration. Plants on all soils required additional P for growth. Growth of both species was very poor on peat withA. glutinosa superior toA. rubra. The former species was also superior toA. rubra on an acid brown earth with low pH and low P content. Some plant-inoculum combinations were of notable effectivity on particular soils but soil type was the major source of variation in plant weight. Inoculation with crushed nodules containingFrankia ArI5 only gave poor infection of the host plant, suggesting that inoculation with locally-collected crushed nodules can be a preferred alternative to inoculation withFrankia isolates of untested effectivity. Evidence of adaptation ofFrankia to particular soils was obtained. Thus, while the growth of all strains was stimulated by mineral soil extracts, inhibitory effects of peat extracts were more apparent with isolates from nodules from mineral soils than from peat, suggesting that survival ofFrankia on peat may be improved by strain selection.  相似文献

Bidens pilosa L. var. radiata (BPR), B. pilosa L. var. pilosa (BPP), and B. pilosa L. var. minor (BPM) are common variants of a plant often used as a folk remedy for diabetes in Taiwan. However, the three variants are often misidentified and little is known about their relative anti-diabetic efficacy and chemical composition. In this paper, we have first developed a method based on GC–MS and cluster analysis with visualization to assist in rapidly determining the taxonomy of these three Bidens variants. GC–MS was used to determine the chemical compositions of supercritical extracts, and differences and similarities in the variants were determined by hierarchical cluster analysis. Next, the HPLC profiles of the methanol crude extracts in the Bidens plants and evaluated anti-diabetic effects of methanol crude extracts were compared, as well as three polyacetylenic compounds of the Bidens plants using db/db mice. Single-dose and long-term experiments showed that the BPR extract had higher glucose-lowering and insulin-releasing activities than extracts from the other two variants, and that cytopiloyne was the most effective pure compound among the three polyacetylenic compounds. BPR extract and cytopiloyne also significantly reduced the percentage of the glycosylated hemoglobin A1c in db/db mice. Besides, both animal studies and HPLC analysis demonstrated a good correlation between anti-diabetic efficacy of the Bidens extracts and the particular polyacetylenes present.  相似文献

The accumulation of copper, zinc and cadmium inA. yokoscense collected from Ashio (copper-contaminated area), Bandai (zinc- and cadmium-contaminated area) and Tama (non-contaminated area), has been investigated. Copper and zinc were accumulated most highly in the root, whilst cadmium was accumulated more in the leaf. The root ofA. yokoscense growing in areas contaminated with metals contained maximum amounts of Cu (5, 989 mg. kg−1 dry weight) and Zn (6,384 mg.kg−1 dry weight), while in the leaf from the Bandai area 164.8 mg Cd.kg−1 dry weight was accumulated. These amounts are far greater than those found inA yokoscense growing on the non-metalliferous habitat (Tama). Twenty five times more zinc and three times more cadmium were found in the dead leaf than in the living leaf. InA. yokoscense growing on soils containing more than 1,000 mg Cu or Zn.kg−1 dry weight, the uptake of copper by the root increased considerably with increasing copper content in the soils, while the uptake of zinc increased only slightly compared with the increase of zinc in the soils.  相似文献

Primary production of phytoplankton and secondary production of a daphnid and a chaoborid were studied in a small eutrophic pond. The gross primary production of phytoplankton was 290 gC m−2 per 9 months during April–December. Regression analysis showed that the gross primary production was related to the incident solar radiation and the chlorophylla concentration and not to either total phosphorus or total inorganic nitrogen concentration. The mean chlorophylla concentration (14.2 mg m−3), however, was about half the expected value upon phosphorus loading of this pond. The mean zooplankton biomass was 1.60 g dry weight m−2, of whichDaphnia rosea and cyclopoid copepods amounted to 0.69 g dry weight m−2 and 0.61 g dry weight m−2, respectively. The production ofD. rosea was high during May–July and October and the level for the whole 9 months was 22.6 g dry weight m−2.Chaoborus flavicans produced 10 complete and one incomplete cohorts per year. Two consecutive cohorts overlapped during the growing season. The maximum density, the mean biomass, and the production were 19,100 m−2, 0.81 g dry weight m−2, and 11.7 g dry weight m−2yr−1, respectively. As no fish was present in this pond, the emerging biomass amounted to 69% of larval production. The production ofC. flavicans larvae was high in comparison with zooplankton production during August–September, when the larvae possibly fed not only on zooplankton but also algae.  相似文献

Root proliferation of desirable (Stipa clarazii andS. tenuis) and undesirable (S.ambigua)perennial grasses was studied in semiarid rangelands of Central Argentina(40°39S, 62°54W) in 1998. On 17 September, soil coreswereremoved from the edge of the plant, metal structures lined with screen mesh(hereafter called bags) were buried in the holes, and root-free soil was placedinto these structures. Numbers of green tillers and circumference per plant hadpreviously been determined. Since plants were of unequal size among species,root length and root dry weight data are reported on a per green tiller basis.Half of the plants was defoliated to 5 cm stubble height on 17September and/or 12 October, while the other half remained undefoliated(controls). Bags were destructively harvested either 20 days after the firstdefoliation (first sampling) or 56 days after the second defoliation (secondsampling) by digging out soil very carefully around each bag. Roots were washedfrom soil, root length estimated by the line intercept method, root dry weightdetermined after oven-drying, and root length per unit root dry weightcalculated from the two measured variables. Root length and dry weight weremorethan 96% greater on defoliated and undefoliated plants ofS. clarazii than on those of S.tenuisor S. ambigua for both sampling dates. Root length perunitroot dry weight, however, was more than 43% greater (p < 0.05) inS. tenuis than in S. clarazii andS. ambigua during the second sampling. Defoliated plantshada similar root length and root dry weight than undefoliated plants in all threespecies, although plants of S. tenuis defoliated twiceshowed a greater (p < 0.05) root length than undefoliated controls. Rootlength and root dry weight were similar between sampling periods, except onundefoliated plants of S. tenuis which had a greater (p<0.05) root length and root dry weight at the first than at the second sampling.Although root length per unit root dry weight may be greater inS. tenuis than in S. clarazii andS. ambigua, greater root length and dry weight increasesinS. clarazii after defoliation appear determinant incontributing to explain its greater competitive ability and defoliationtolerance when compared with the other two species.Nomenclature of taxa followed.  相似文献

Three pot experiments were conducted to test the hypothesis that the growth ofAcacia spp. in stockpiled soil from two mineral sand mines, could be increased by the addition of phosphorus (P) or inoculation with VA mycorrhizal fungi. In soils from North Stradbroke Island, the dry weight of shoots ofAcacia concurrens was increased by P and by VA mycorrhizal fungi in tailings sand, while in less adsorptive topsoil dry weight was only increased at low levels of applied P. WhenA. concurrens was grown in a layer of topsoil placed over tailings sand, shoot dry weight increased, in response to inoculation with VA mycorrhizal fungi banded between the soil layers.In topsoil from Eneabba, the dry weight of shoots at low rates of applied P was increased by up to 4 times by inoculation with VA mycorrhizal fungi. The response to inoculation in both experiments was due to increases in the uptake of P by the plants.Species of VA mycorrhizal fungi differed in their ability to increase plant growth. The lifeform and the biological production of pure stands ofEichhornia azurea Kunth in three lakes in tropical Brazil were studied. The lifeform ofE. azurea is termed ‘semi-emergent’, because the plant has well developed trailing stems just under the water, and the aerial lamina emerges with the thick petiole. The density of shoot apices was 9.9, 17.2 and 17.1 m−2 in Lake Dom Helvecio, Lake Jacaré and Lake Carioca, respectively. The mean daily increment of the apical shoot biomass was between 1.8 and 4.8 g m−2 day−1. The mean leaf life-span in Lake Dom Helvecio, Lake Jacaré and Lake Carioca was estimated to be 78, 49 and 64 days in the wet season and 73, 70 and 73 days in the dry season, respectively. The stem life-span was estimated to be about 28 months. Starch content in the current years' stem ranged from 24 to 118 mg g−1 dry matter with fluctuations, the amplitude of which decreased with age. The differences for most of the growth parameters, such as density of shoot apices, daily increment of biomass and leaf life-span, between dry and wet season are smaller than those among the three lakes. Both the decrease in daily dry matter production and the increase in leaf life-span occurred in order from Lake Dom Helvecio to Lake Jacaré and Lake Carioca. The low productivity ofE. azurea is considered to be related to a low leaf area index, a long time interval for the emergence of new leaves, long leaf life-span and a low capacity for branching.  相似文献
