In varying lemmings from seven natural populations (from Bolzhezemel'skaya tundra to Chukotka Peninsula), the number of B chromosomes ranged from 0 to 15. In populations surveyed for several years, B chromosome frequencies were stable. Two laboratory colonies (founded by Dicrostonyx torquatus from the Polar Urals and D. t. chionopaes from Yakutia) produced more than 3000 animals, of which 1699 were karyotyped. A small excess of B chromosomes in the progeny over that in their parents was observed in each generation. Coefficients of transmission k1 of additional chromosomes were on average 0.519 in D. t. torquatus and 0.511 in D. t. chionopaes. In oocytes I and II, an accumulation of B chromosomes was observed as compared to somatic cells (k2 = 0.66). The reproductive output of animals from both laboratory colonies did not depend on size of the B genome. The reduction of body and scull sizes observed in animals carrying numerous B chromosomes may confer negative selective value in the conditions of the Extreme North. In general, the system of B chromosomes in D. torquatus is well balanced and very stable, being apparently under strong genetic control.  相似文献

In 69 representatives of the Arctic lemming the ovaries have been studied. Morphologucal peculiarities of prefollicular and follicular cells have been revealed during various periods of folliculogenesis, as well as changes in the volumetric density arrangement of cellular organells in the process of their differentiation. It is supposed that during the period preceding formation of the follicles (15.5-20 days of embryonal development and the first three days after birth) the prefollicular cells possess several functions (participation in regulating spatial organization of ovogonia, fagocytosis), the secretory one including. During formation of primordial follicles (1-3 days after birth) the follicular epithelium cells become flatten and their structures orient towards supporting-mechanical function. The following morphological changes of folliculocytes are connected with further growth of follicles, granulosa formation, secretion of follicular fluid in cavitary follicles that form at the beginning of the third week. A coinside in time is noted in formation of primordial follicles and in beginning of their growth in laboratory rodents and in the lemmings, nevertheless, transformation of the growing follicles into the cavitary ones occurs more quickly in the lemming.  相似文献

The structure and ultrastructure of the following regions of the hypothalamo-hypophysial neurosecretory system (HHNS) in the population cycle of lemming were studied: supraoptic (SON), paraventricular (PVN) and arcuate nuclei (AN), the median eminence (ME) and posterior pituitary (PP). Being compared to the state of endocrine glands and gonads, and the level of reproduction stress in the population cycle of the lemming described earlier, the obtained data revealed a certain regularity. First, at the stages of decrease, increase and in the first period of the stage of population peak the activity of the SON-PP complex and AN is gradually increased. This coincides with intensified reproduction, intensified functioning of the thyroid gland and adrenal cortex. Second, while the population is decreasing, all the above functions become depressed, except that of the thyroid gland which, on the contrary, becomes active. In the second period of the stage of population peak, when reproduction stops abruptly, this regularity, however, does not hold, the activity of SON-PP complex and AN is sharply lowered, whereas that of PVN becomes very high. The structure of the thyroid damaged as a result of previous hyperfunction, is restored, and the adrenal cortex shows signs of hypercorticism. The present work is devoted to specificity of the HHNS functioning at the stage of population peak, referred to as crucial, and the pathways and mechanisms by which neurohormones produced by this system can affect the endocrine glands. In addition, the causes likely to lead to the mass death of animals at this stage, and biological significance of this fact are also given attention to.  相似文献

Reproductive functions and life at laboratory conditions were studied in the lemming. Standard cage-terrariums with a wheel for motion and a plate for drinking are quite convenient. The main ration includes: hay, oats with some carrot added, some apples two--three times a week, sunflower seeds. The animals feel well and reproduce at +8 degrees and +20 degrees in well ventilated rooms. The estrous cycle in lemming females studied by microscopy of vaginal smears is not regular. Only two stages are definitely seen: diestrus and estrus. Intermediate stages--proestrus and metaestrus--can be identified by a successive studies of vaginal smears of the same animal.  相似文献

The reaction of the hypothalamo-hypophysial neurosecretory system (HHNS) of lemmings to cold (+4 degrees C) was studied by the method of electron microscopy. The animals were kept in cages with nest, but with no wheel to allow running; in cages with a wheel, but with no nest; in cages with no nest and no wheel. No changes in the HHNS reaction were revealed under cold stimulation, if the animals were not deprived of motor activity (running in a wheel), or could hide in a nest. In case of no nest and restricted motor activity exposition to low temperature led to a progressive activation of neurosecretory cells of the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei, and finally to their exhaustion and degeneration. The intensity of the HHNS reaction to cold is shown to depend on the initial state of the system which varies according to the stages of population cycle. The present study gives grounds to put forward the hypothesis that the adaptation of the Dicrostonyx torquatus Pallas to cold is made possible due to maximal utilization of ecological conditions and behavioral reactions.  相似文献

By means of the histostereometrical method, peculiarities of the thyroid gland formation have been studied in the lemming (Dicrostonyx torquatus) fetuses and newborns at the stage of the population quantity drop, as well specificity of the organ's morphofunctional state during the postnatal period. On the 14th prenatal day the thyroid gland already has the follicular structure. Up to the 19th day progressive follicular growth, accumulation of colloid and increase of its density occur. On the 19th-20th days, as well as in newborn animals, there are certain signs, demonstrating as essential activation of the thyroid gland function. In the newborn animals cavities of the completely formed follicles are devastated. During the postnatal period again growth of follicles, accumulation of colloid are observed, signs of hypersecretion of the hypophysis appear.  相似文献

The effects of long 'summer' (22L:2D) and short 'winter' (2L:22D) photoperiod on post-weaning growth and food consumption of the collared lemming were examined. Growth was described by Gompertz equations. After 10 weeks, lemmings maintained under short photoperiods developed white winter pelage and heavy bifid claws; body mass and estimated asymptotic mass were significantly greater than for lemmings reared under long photoperiod. Sexual dimorphism in body size was observed within treatments, males growing larger than females. There were no significant differences in the overall growth rate constant k as a result of either sex or photoperiod treatment. However, instantaneous growth rates (dW/dt) were significantly higher in 'winter' lemmings. Mass at weaning was a significant determinant of adult mass at 90 days.
Cumulative food consumption at 90 days was not significantly different between photoperiod groups, even though 'winter' lemmings gained more than double the mass of their 'summer' counterparts over the post-weaning period. Increased gut length observed for winter morphs may act as the physiological mechanism promoting greater gross energy efficiency.
The present study suggests that the overwintering strategy of the collared lemming with respect to body mass changes and energy requirements differs considerably from that of other microtines.  相似文献

The development of the sarcocyst of Sarcocystis rauschorum in its intermediate host was studied. Lemmings were orally administered sporocysts of S. rauschorum obtained from snowy owls (Nyctea scandiaca). Beginning at 9 days postinoculation (DPI) and at various intervals to 84 DPI, skeletal muscle tissue taken from the infected lemmings was examined by electron microscopy. At 9 DPI the sarcocysts contained few metrocytes and the cyst wall was flat. The metrocytes underwent endodyogeny, and within a few days the cyst wall of the rapidly growing sarcocyst developed numerous tubulovesicular invaginations into the electron-dense layer, and the wall had a few irregular infoldings. By 21 DPI, banana-shaped bradyzoites appeared, and by 84 DPI the mature cysts were filled with bradyzoites in groups subdivided by septa and by deep infoldings of the cyst wall. The fine structure of the wall remained simple throughout maturation, with no conspicuous invagination or protrusion. The sarcocyst produced in response to S. rauschorum is unlike those from many species of Sarcocystis, which have complex walls that change markedly as the sarcocysts mature; however, its simple appearance is similar to other species that have rodents as intermediate hosts and raptorial birds as definitive hosts.  相似文献

Collared lemmings, Dicrostonyx groenlandicus , maintained in the laboratory under short-day photoperiods (2 h light: 22 h dark) grew faster than their cohorts kept under long-day photoperiods (22 h light: 2 h dark). Significant differences in cranial, visceral and body components were found in both sexes. Linear regressions of skull-body parameters were compared to those of wild lemmings trapped at Eskimo Point, Northwest Territories, Canada, during three consecutive summers from 1973 to 1975. The data support the conclusion that variation in body size and skull development associated with changes in population density are, in part, due to photoperiod influences. The importance of this facultative response is discussed in relation to current theories on thermal regulation and variations in subnivial breeding success observed in this species.  相似文献

Protein and total nitrogen contents and respiration rate (at 10°C) were estimated in 22 herbaceous species of Wrangel Island (lat. 71° N). Protein nitrogen content and respiration rate in leaves of these plants were found to exceed 1.3- and 2.4-fold the corresponding indices in the temperate zone plants at the same temperature. The relationship between the content of protein nitrogen and respiration in the Wrangel Island species was insignificant (r 2 = 0.137), and the authors conclude that the protein content in the northern plants is not the factor determining the respiration rate in particular plant species. It follows that rather than depend on such indirect indices as nitrogen content, the models for carbon cycle in the North should employ direct respiration measurements at natural plant habitats.  相似文献

Under study was the structure of the hypothalamo-hypophyseal neurosecretory system in two species of lemmings of the Wrangel island: the collared lemming, (Dicrostonyx torquatus) and the Ob lemming (Lemmus sibiricus). Inspite of the similarity in the general organization of this system in all rodents, certain species features were found in the topography of neurosecretory elements in the animals studied. In the Ob lemming there is a great similarity in the structures of the neurosecretory system with the albino rat than in the collared lemming. In both species of lemmings, and in the collared lemming in particular, the supraoptic nucleus is located more dorso-caudally and the paraventricular one-more dorsally. A greater amount of neurosecretory cells is found which from additional groups. The hypothalamo-hypophyseal and extrahypothalamic pathways are well pronounced. The postoptical nucleus is considerably developed. In the collared lemming it is almost equal to the supraoptic one in the amount of cells composing it. The ratio of the cells in the supraoptic and postoptic nuclei is suggested to be related to the level of the water-salt metabolism and the specific ecology of lemmings.  相似文献

This study describes life history and population dynamics of the annual halophyte Suaeda maritima, at initial stages of seedling development, in salt-marshes of the Mont-Saint-Michel Bay. Effects of salinity on seed germination and seedling development were studied both in the laboratory and in the field. Salinity was measured as sediment electrical conductivity. Experiments in the laboratory showed that Suaeda maritima was relatively tolerant to salinity during the germination stage. In the field, germination occurred when soil salinity was minimal. Almost all seeds germinated in the field; this may explain the absence of a persistent seed bank. Salinity did not seem to affect the growth of seedlings either. Mortality in the field was attributed to physical factors such as anoxia during temporary immersion, burial by sediment and tidal uprooting. The intensity of these effects varied according to the location of Suaeda maritima seedlings: in hollows, along the edge of tidal creeks, in gaps among dense vegetation cover, or in pattern with Puccinellia maritima. Perennial vegetation did not restrict Suaeda maritima germination. In contrast, perennials such as Puccinellia maritima and Halimione portulacoides limited the development of Suaeda maritima seedlings since only a small number of this annual emerged beneath their canopies. The fate of seedlings depended to a great extent on the permeability of the perennial canopy to light. Thus, disturbance resulting in bare patches inside the perennial vegetation seemed essential for the development of this annual species. Suaeda maritima can grow in the presence of Puccinellia maritima so long as the latter present as an open matrix. Suaeda maritima may also benefit from protection against desiccation and tidal action where this occurs.  相似文献

2004-2005年在烤烟生长发育的不同时期进行遮荫降低光照强度的盆栽试验,研究了不同生育期降低光强对烤烟生长发育和品质的影响.结果表明:遮荫条件下烟株干物质积累下降,叶片组织变薄,色素含量升高,落黄成熟时间延长;转化酶活性降低,但遮荫解除后又开始升高;叶片烤后烟叶含梗率增加,叶片厚度和比叶质量降低,烟碱、总氮、钾和氯含量增加,总糖和还原糖含量降低,中性致香成分含量增加.不同时期遮荫的影响为成熟期>旺长期>伸根期>对照.  相似文献

An investigation of the physiological and biochemical characteristics of the Bifidobacterium bifidum no. 1, B. adolescentis MC-42, and B. adolescentis 94-BIM strains showed that bifidobacteria with a higher growth rate produced greater amounts of the end fermentation products, acetate and lactate. The growth of the strains in batch cultures was found to be inhibited by acidic fermentation products. The growth of B. bifidum no. 1 in a batch mode lasted 100 h at a population density of 10(6) CFU/ml and the growth of B. adolescentis MC-42 and 94-BIM lasted 96-120 h at population densities from 10(4) to 10(7) CFU/ml. Analysis of the bifidobacterial populations by light and electron microscopy showed that they represent conglomerates of cells with lysed cytoplasm in the cell center and intact cytoplasm in the apical parts of the cells. The maximum production of extra-cellular and cell-bound proteinases was observed in the logarithmic growth phase. By the 120th h of cultivation, the metabolic activity of cells, the production of proteinases, and the protein content of bifidobacterial cultures considerably decreased. In the first, second, and third subcultures of 96-h-old bifidobacterial cells on fresh nutrient media, the population density of bifidobacteria and their normal physiological and biochemical characteristics were restored after 48 to 72 h of cultivation.  相似文献

The reproduction of female Siberian lemmings in the increase and peak phases of the lemming cycle was investigated in connection with a ship-borne expedition along the Siberian arctic tundra. The cycle phase of each studied lemming population was determined using demographic analyses, i.e. current density indices (captured lemmings per 100 traps per 24 h), information on previous density (frequency of old lemming faeces and runways), and information from dendrochronological analyses revealing the most recent winters with a high intensity of willow-stem scarring caused by lemmings. The cycle phase determination was corroborated with data on the age profiles of the populations. The reproductive behaviour of female lemmings differed markedly in relation to cycle phase. In increase-phase populations, all captured females (including young and winter born) were reproducing (had embryos or were lactating), and females started to reproduce early in life, i.e. when <2 months old. By contrast, in peak-phase populations, only 6% of the young females and 63% of the winter-born ones were reproducing, and females did not start to reproduce until they were 5–6 months old. The average number of embryos per reproducing female was significantly higher in increase-phase populations than in peak-phase ones. It is concluded that the rapid population growth in lemmings during the increase phase can largely be explained by the early (young age) reproductive start and, consequently, the shorter generation time, the high proportion of females taking part in reproduction, and the large litters produced. Similarly, a delay in the start of reproduction, a lower proportion of reproducing females, and smaller litter sizes produced by peak-phase lemming populations can contribute substantially to the deceleration in the population increase and possibly lead to a decline. 【目的】研究不同生长阶段的椰子叶片对椰心叶甲Brontispa longissima Gestro生长发育的影响。【方法】选用椰子心叶、椰子半展叶和椰子全展叶长期饲养椰心叶甲,并比较驯化后椰心叶甲种群的发育历期、繁殖力和种群趋势指数的差异。【结果】用椰子心叶和椰子全展叶长期饲养的椰心叶甲种群在卵长度(P=0.005<0.01)和蛹重上差异显著(P<0.01)。从整个幼虫发育历期来看,椰子心叶、椰子半展叶和椰子全展叶驯化种群的幼虫发育历期分别为41.45、40.61和36.38d,椰子全展叶驯化种群的幼虫发育历期最短;椰子心叶驯化种群的交配产卵前期显著短于椰子半展叶和椰子全展叶驯化种群(P<0.05);椰子半展叶驯化种群的平均产卵量最多,为161.78粒,其次是椰子全展叶种群的147.33粒,最少的是椰子心叶驯化种群,其平均产卵量为112.60粒。用椰子心叶、椰子半展叶和椰子全展叶长期驯化种群的的种群趋势指数分别是24.79、35.86和45.94。【结论】长期饲喂不同生长阶段的椰子叶片对椰心叶甲的生长发育有显著性影响,其中椰子全展叶驯化种群的发育历期最短,存活率最高,种群趋势指数最高。椰子全展叶是最适合椰心叶甲的生长发育的叶片。  相似文献
