Tuber aestivum and Tuber uncinatum: two morphotypes or two species?   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Tuber spp. are ectomycorrhizal fungi that establish symbioses with shrubs and trees. Because of their different smell and taste, Tuber uncinatum and Tuber aestivum are two truffle morphotypes with a different market value, but whether or not T. uncinatum and T. aestivum are different taxa is still an open debate among mycologists. In order to identify molecular keys characterizing both T. aestivum and T. uncinatum morphotypes, ITS/RFLPs analyses were carried out on a large collection of samples from all over Italy and from other European countries, followed by a study of the phylogenesis of ITS, beta-tubulin and EF 1-alpha genes, on representative samples. The present study provides compelling evidence that: (i) T. uncinatum and T. aestivum belong to the same species, (ii) neither morphotype presents a specific molecular fingerprint, but they may even share identical alleles at any of the loci analysed; (iii) T. aestivum is most likely under a selfing reproductive mode. Our findings suggest that ecological, rather than genetic causes may account for differences in sporal morphology, taste and smell between T. aestivum and T. uncinatum truffles.  相似文献

TwoChenopodium species (C. album L.,C. suecicum J. Murr) were grown under field conditions with sugar beet to assess the weed-caused crop loss, and with spring wheat in a replacement series experiment. The weeds strongly reduced the growth of sugar beet. Dew's competition indexes for the regressions of sugar beet yield on weed density were 6.81 and 3.78 forC. suecicum andC. album respectively. On the other hand, the yield of spring wheat was not affected by the twoChenopodium species owing to early shading of the weeds by the faster growing crop stand.  相似文献

Summary Two NAD-dependent dehydrogenases exhibiting activity with L-alanine were detected in crude extracts ofStreptomyces aureofaciens. The dominant enzyme was found to be an alanine dehydrogenase with 6 or 4 subunits, each ofM, 45,000. The minor enzyme exhibited high activities with branched-chain amino acids, suggesting it is a valine dehydrogenase. The results demonstrate thatS. aureofaciens has only one alanine dehydrogenase, which is catalytically active in a six- or four-subunit structure.  相似文献

Two sites for -oxidation of fatty acids in pea (Pisum sativum L.) cotyledons exist. One site is the microbody, the other the mitochondrion. Mitochondrial -oxidation of fatty acids is carnitine-dependent. The fatty acid permeates the membrane as palmitoylcarnitine which is formed from cytosolic-side palmitoyl-CoA by a carnitine palmitoyltransferase located on the exterior face of the inner mitochondrial membrane as a peripheral protein. A single-gated pore integral membrane translocator is proposed to exchange the palmitoylcarnitine for carnitine or acetylcarnitine across the membrane. An internal (matrix side) carnitine palmitoyltransferase then reforms palmitoyl-CoA which enters -oxidation and subsequently the tricarboxylic-acid cycle.  相似文献

A rare secocarotenoid, semi-β-carotenone, has been isolated from young leaves of Ceratozamia fuscoviridis (a form of C. mexicana Brongn.) and of C. kuesteriana. This is the first time that this carotenoid has been obtained from photosynthetic tissue. The kinetics of β-galactosidase synthesis induced by galactose and lactose inStreptomyces violaceus, as well as the pattern ofo-nitrophenyl-β-d-galactoside-positive bands observed after electrophoresis of both crude extracts, showed the presence of different β-galactosidase activities in the two cellular extracts. It is postulated that the lactase activity induced by lactose is the physiological enzyme responsible for lactose utilization. Solutions of crystalline beta-lactamase I and beta-lactamase II, prepared by Kuwabara (1970), were examined in the ultracentrifuge and their sedimentation coefficients, diffusion coefficients, molecular weights and heterogeneity determined. Each sample was shown to consist of a major component comprising at least 97% of the material and a minor component of much higher molecular weight. The molecular weights of the major components were 27800 for beta-lactamase I and 35600 for beta-lactamase II. Emphasis is placed on a straightforward practical way of analysing the sedimentation-equilibrium results on mixtures of two macromolecular components rather than on a strict theoretical solution. Appendices describe the theory of systems at both chemical and sedimentation equilibrium and the procedure for calculating the combined distribution of two components.  相似文献

In multicellular organisms, cells are polarized in the plane of the epithelial sheet, revealed in some cell types by oriented hairs or cilia. Many of the underlying genes have been identified in Drosophila melanogaster and are conserved in vertebrates. Here we dissect the logic of planar cell polarity (PCP). We review studies of genetic mosaics in adult flies - marked cells of different genotypes help us to understand how polarizing information is generated and how it passes from one cell to another. We argue that the prevailing opinion that planar polarity depends on a single genetic pathway is wrong and conclude that there are (at least) two independently acting processes. This conclusion has major consequences for the PCP field.  相似文献
