A simple method was devised for the maintenance of the chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) of chick embryos in organ culture. Explants of CAM survived for up to 5 days in this system and retained the characteristic three-layered morphology (ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm). Induction of the CAM calcium-binding protein (CaBP) by effectors of calcium metabolism was studied in these organ cultures. Vitamin K was found to elicit a seven- to eightfold increase in CaBP, whereas no increase in CaBP activity occurred on supplementation with vitamin A, parathyroid hormone, an analogue of vitamin D, vitamin D and its hydroxylated metabolites, or with elevated calcium levels. The vitamin K-mediated induction of CaBP was dose-dependent, inhibited by the vitamin K antagonists warfarin and dicoumarol, selective for vitamin K5, and maximal at the developmental stage (13-15 days of incubation) corresponding to the onset of calcium transport by the CAM in vivo. CaBP levels increased after 60-70 h in cultures of 13-15 day CAM supplemented with vitamin K and reached maximal levels around 80-90 h of culture. The CAM ectoderm underwent extensive proliferation and often assumed a villuslike morphology in the vitamin K cultures.  相似文献

The single cell gel test (SCG test or comet assay) was used to study DNA damage in peripheral white blood cells (WBC) of humans after a single bout of exhaustive exercise and the effect of vitamin supplementation. Human subjects were asked to run on a treadmill until exhaustion and blood samples were taken before and 24 h after the run. A clear increase in DNA strand breakage was observed in the 24-h sample of all probands. A short-term application of multivitamin pills or vitamin E (3 × 800 mg) resulted in a significantly smaller increase of DNA effects in WBC of some probands. When the volunteers were given a supplement of vitamin E (1200 mg daily) for 14 days prior to run, exercise-induced DNA damage was clearly reduced in all probands. In four out of five subjects, vitamin supplementation completely prevented the induction of DNA damage after exhaustive exercise. Intake of vitamin E for 14 days led to a clear increase in vitamin E serum concentrations. Malondialdehyde (MDA), a marker of lipid peroxidation, was measured in the serum of probands in tests with and without vitamin supplementation for 14 days. MDA concentrations were significantly decreased following vitamin E supplementation but not significantly changed 15 min and 24 h after a run. Our results demonstrate that vitamin E prevents exercise-induced DNA damage and indicate that DNa breakage occurs in WBC after exhaustive exercise as a consequence of oxidative stress.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES--To determine whether a single high dose of vitamin A given to all children in communities with high mortality and malnutrition could affect mortality and to assess whether periodic community wide supplementation could be readily incorporated into an ongoing primary health programme. DESIGN--Opportunistic controlled trial. SETTING--Jumla district, Nepal. SUBJECTS--All children aged under 5 years; 3786 in eight subdistricts given single dose of vitamin A and 3411 in remaining eight subdistricts given no supplementation. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES--Mortality and cause of death in the five months after supplementation. RESULTS--Risk of death for children aged 1-59 months in supplemented communities was 26% lower (relative risk 0.74, 95% confidence interval 0.55 to 0.99) than in unsupplemented communities. The reduction in mortality was greatest among children aged 6-11 months: death rate (deaths/1000 child years at risk) was 133.8 in supplemented children and 260.8 in unsupplemented children (relative risk 0.51, 0.30 to 0.89). The death rate from diarrhoea was also reduced (63.5 supplemented v 97.5 unsupplemented; relative risk 0.65, 0.44 to 0.95). The extra cost per death averted was about $11. CONCLUSION--The results support a role for Vitamin A in increasing child survival. The supplementation programme was readily integrated with the ongoing community health programme at little extra cost.  相似文献

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Several studies have suggested that vitamin D supplementation in early life may reduce the risk of developing type 1 diabetes in later life. The non-obese diabetic (NOD) mouse is a model of spontaneous type 1 diabetes currently used for testing hypothesis/compounds aimed at disease prevention. In this study, we tested the effect of vitamin D (16 IU by gavage) on diabetes incidence in NOD/Ba mice treated from conception with olive oil containing vitamin D via maternal dosing up to 10 weeks of age and followed up until 32 weeks of age. METHODS: Twelve breeding pairs were administered olive oil containing vitamin D during pregnancy, 15 days following the birth of the pups and for the next 10 weeks subsequently. The same breeding pairs were bred again after a clearance period of 15 days using a control solution to produce a control litter. This control group received a control solution for the same period of time. Diabetes incidence, degree of insulitis, and insulin content in the pancreas were investigated in the two groups. RESULTS: 12 vitamin D-treated NOD mice developed diabetes compared to 15 animals in the control group (Log rank test p = 0.899, NS). There were no significant differences between the groups in diabetes incidence, time of onset of the disease, degree of insulitis, or the insulin content in the pancreas. CONCLUSION: Vitamin D administered in utero and in the early stages of life at the dosage used does not change the incidence of diabetes or modify the disease process that leads to beta cell destruction in the NOD mouse.  相似文献

We have investigated vitamin C supplementation effects on immunoglobulin oxidation (carbonyls) and total plasma protein sulfhydryls in healthy human volunteers. After receiving placebo, plasma ascorbate and oxidation markers were unchanged. Following 5 weeks supplementation with vitamin C (400 mg/day), plasma ascorbate increased but no significant effect on protein oxidation was observed. At 10 and 15 weeks supplementation, carbonyl levels were significantly reduced (P < 0.01) in subjects with low baseline ascorbate (29.51 +/- 5.3 microM) but not in those with normal baseline ascorbate (51.81 +/- 2.3 microM). To eliminate any effect from seasonal variation in dietary antioxidant intake, a second phase was undertaken. Subjects on vitamin C for 15 weeks were randomly assigned to receive either placebo or vitamin C. No difference in plasma sulfhydryl content was observed. Subjects withdrawn from supplementation showed an increase in immunoglobulin carbonyl content (P < 0.01). This demonstrates that dietary vitamin C supplementation can reduce certain types of oxidative protein damage in subjects with low basal antioxidant.  相似文献

Groups of 12 Charles River CD virgin female rats were either supplemented with 25,000 IU/kg of vitamin A palmitate or not during the first 8 days of pregnancy and in the first experiment given a single dose of either 5 or 10 mg/kg of all-trans-retinoic acid (RA) on day 9 of pregnancy. In a second experiment, similar groups were given either 4 or 8 mg/kg RA daily from day 6 through day 15 so that each treatment with RA was given to vitamin A supplemented rats or nonsupplemented rats. The high systemic background of vitamin A increased the teratogenicity of the 10 mg/kg dose of RA given on day 9 by 50%, but reduced the teratogenicity of the 8 mg/kg dose given on days 6-15. The reasons for this paradox are discussed and related to the human propensity to self-medicate with megadoses of vitamins.  相似文献

ASYMPTOMATIC ELEVATION OF THE INTERNATIONAL normalized ratio (INR) is a common problem associated with hemorrhage. Evidence from randomized controlled trials supports the use of low-dose oral vitamin K therapy as a treatment that promptly reduces the INR. Vitamin K given orally is more effective than subcutaneous vitamin K injection, and as effective as intravenous administration when INR values are compared 24 hours after administration. A 1.0-mg vitamin K dose is likely most appropriate for patients with INR values between 4.5 and 10. The fear of over-correction of the INR has limited the widespread use of vitamin K; however, our review suggests that this occurs infrequently when small doses are administered orally.Asymptomatic elevation of the international normalized ratio (INR) is a common and important clinical problem encountered by all health care professionals who supervise patients taking warfarin. Patients in typical outpatient practices have INRs outside the desired range 50% of the time.1,2 One randomized controlled trial (RCT) suggested that, despite measures to ensure an appropriate level of anticoagulation, 14% of total patient-time was spent with INR values above the therapeutic range.3 There is a strong relation between the degree of INR elevation and the risk of hemorrhage. Serious warfarin-associated bleeding usually occurs from the gastrointestinal or genitourinary system;4 the risk of such bleeding may as much as double for each 1-point increase in the INR.5 Investigators of a prospective cohort study6 followed 114 consecutive patients who presented to an anticoagulation clinic with an INR greater than 6 and found that abnormal bleeding developed in 10 (8.8%) of them and life-threatening hemorrhage in 5 (4.4%; 2 fatal) over the 2-week follow-up period. Therefore, interventions leading to a prompt reduction of the INR may reduce the risk of serious bleeding in patients taking warfarin.Most indications for warfarin anticoagulation have a target therapeutic INR range of 2.0 to 3.0. However, some indications, such as mechanical heart valves, require a higher intensity of anticoagulation. 7,8 An elevated INR is one that is above the therapeutic range. However, most studies that have evaluated interventions for asymptomatic elevation of the INR have examined INRs several points above the upper limit of the therapeutic range, usually selecting a lower limit for intervention between 4.5 and 6.0. In assessing patients with an elevated INR, one should consider potential causes such as noncompliance, inappropriate dosing, fluctuations in vitamin K intake, hepatic dysfunction, laboratory errors, drug interactions (Box 1) and alcohol intake.Table 1Box 1A common strategy for lowering an elevated INR is simply to withhold warfarin. In some cases parenteral vitamin K therapy may be administered. Recent interest has focused on the use of vitamin K orally as a simple, safe and effective way of normalizing an excessively elevated INR. Although no tablet form of vitamin K is currently available in Canada, the intravenous formulation (see Fig. 1) can be given orally, either undiluted or after mixing with orange juice to mask its unpleasant taste. The effect of vitamin A supplements on metabolic behavior of an oral tracer dose of [14C]beta-carotene was investigated in a longitudinal test-retest design in two adults. For the test, each subject ingested 1 nmol of [14C]beta-carotene (100 nCi) in an emulsified olive oil-banana drink. Total urine and stool were collected for up to 30 days; concentration-time patterns of [14C]beta-carotene, [14C]retinyl esters, and [14C]retinol were determined for 46 days. On Day 53, the subjects were placed on a daily vitamin A supplement (10000 IU/day), and a second dose of [14C]beta-carotene (retest) was given on Day 74. All 14C determinations were made using accelerator mass spectrometry. In both subjects, the vitamin A supplementation was associated with three main effects: 1). increased apparent absorption: test versus retest values rose from 57% to 74% (Subject 1) and from 52% to 75% (Subject 2); 2). an approximately 10-fold reduction in urinary excretion; and 3). a lower ratio of labeled retinyl ester/beta-carotene concentrations in the absorptive phase. The molar vitamin A value of the dose for the test was 0.62 mol (Subject 1) and 0.54 mol (Subject 2) vitamin A to 1 mol beta-carotene. Respective values for the retest were 0.85 and 0.74. These results show that while less cleavage of beta-carotene occurred due to vitamin A supplementation, higher absorption resulted in larger molar vitamin A values.  相似文献

A human osteosarcoma cell line, HOS TE85 cells, and a mouse osteoblastic cell line, MC3T3-E1 cells, were cultured for 3 days in a medium containing various concentrations of menaquinone-4 (vitamin K2). As a result, the proliferation of HOS cells was suppressed by vitamin K2 in a dose dependent manner up to 56% of control by 10(-7)M of vitamin K2 and that of MC3T3-E1 cells was suppressed to 84% of control by 10(-6)M of vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 increased alkaline phosphatase activity in both kinds of cells. Warfarin counteracted the effect of vitamin K2 on osteoblastic cell proliferation. Our results show that vitamin K2 modulates proliferation and function of osteoblastic cells by some mechanisms including gamma-carboxylation system.  相似文献

The lesser bandicoot rat after ingesting a sublethal dose of 0.025% zinc phosphide, in preferred food millet (Pennisetum typhoides) grains, for 4 days, showed aversion for 5-6 days towards plain millet offered in choice with the less preferred sorghum (Sorghum vulgare) grains. The aversion response to nontoxic bait was stronger (aversion index greater than 0.7) for first 3-4 days in individual and for 1-2 days in paired rats. 100% or more shift in aversion index from pre-treatment to post-treatment periods indicated that the aversive and naive partners of the heterosexual and unisexual female pairs mutually influence the feeding preferences of each other as a result of which they showed aversion for first 2-3 days to the plain food in which poison was given to one of the partner earlier.  相似文献

Fatty acid composition of cellular membranes can modify permeability and can modulate the activity of Na(+)/K(+)-ATPase. Although highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA) improve survival and osmoregulatory capacity to low salinities in penaeid shrimp, the possible mechanisms have not been established. For this purpose the influence of HUFA supplementation in diet (2.9 vs. 34% HUFA proportion to total fatty acids) on osmoregulatory responses of juvenile Litopenaeus vannamei submitted to an acute (15 h) or chronic exposure (21 days), to low (5 g L(-1)) and high salinities (50 g L(-1)) was analyzed. Shrimp fed the high-HUFA diet, had higher concentration of main HUFA (20:5n-3 and 22:6n-3) in polar lipids of gills. Osmotic pressure in hemolymph was significantly affected by salinity in acute (640, 751, 847 mOsm/kg for 5, 30 and 50 g L(-1), respectively), and chronic exposure (645, 713, 814 mOsm/kg), but variations between them were small compared to environmental salinity (206, 832, 1547 mOsm/kg), indicating that osmoregulation was achieved in a matter of hours. An increase in Na(+)/K(+)-ATPase activity was observed only after a chronic exposure to low salinity. Free amino acids (FAA), mainly alanine and arginine, were higher at 30 (control) and 50 g L(-1) in accordance to their role as organic osmolites. Neither osmotic pressure, Na(+)/K(+)-ATPase activity, nor FAA was affected by HUFA supplementation. However, higher water content in gills of shrimp exposed to low salinities was counteracted by increased HUFA content, which could be a result of changes in water permeability of gills. The osmoregulatory capacity of penaeid shrimp to low and high salinities was achieved within 15 h of acclimation and did not depend on HUFA supplementation in the diet.  相似文献

The main function of vitamin K1 is to act a co-factor for gamma-glutamyl carboxylase. However, it has also been shown to lessen oxidative stress. This study was aimed to evaluate the effect of vitamin K1 supplementation on vascular responsiveness and oxidative status in rats that underwent femoral osteotomy. Twenty-four male rats were divided into three groups to serve as sham, osteotomy and vitamin K1 groups. Indices of oxidative stress (catalase), and oxidative damage (malondialdehyde) were analysed in erythrocytes. In order to evaluate vascular reactivity, concentration-response curves to phenylephrine, angiotensin II, 5-hydroxytryptamine, bradykinin and histamine were constructed. The findings of this study clearly show that oxidative stress clearly increases after femoral osteotomy in rats. Also, this operation causes a significant depression in vascular responsiveness to contracting agents and endothelium-dependent vasodilators. However, vitamin K1 supplementation prevents vascular hyporeactivity by reducing oxidative stress and may represent a novel approach during osteotomy healing.  相似文献

Vitamin supplements have been reported to reduce the magnitude of symptoms in subjects exposed to oxidant air pollution. To confirm whether supplementation with vitamins C and E could reduce lung function decrements, airway inflammation, and epithelial injury in subjects sensitive to ozone, a double-blinded, crossover control study was performed. Fourteen ozone-responsive subjects were randomly exposed to both air and ozone (0.2 ppm for 2 h) after 7 days of either placebo treatment or supplementation with vitamin C (500 mg/day) and E (100 mg/day). Lung function was assessed pre- and immediately postexposure and blood samples were taken at set intervals. Inflammatory, tissue injury, and antioxidant responses were examined in lavage fluid obtained by bronchoscopy 6 h postexposure. Exposure to ozone resulted in significant (P < 0.01) decrements in FEV1 with no protection observed following vitamin supplementation (-8.5%) versus placebo (-7.3%) treatment. Similarly, ozone-induced neutrophilia were of a similar magnitude after both treatments (P < 0.05). This lack of protection was observed despite elevated plasma vitamin C (+60.1%) and vitamin E (+51.4%) concentrations following supplementation, and increased vitamin C concentrations in the airways after supplementation following ozone exposure. These data do not therefore support the contention that acute ozone-induced symptoms can be attenuated through the use of dietary antioxidants in well-nourished individuals.  相似文献

Secondary toxcity of difethialone to Barn owl (Tyto alba) has been investigated. Difethialone was fed to owls for successive periods of 1 (phase 1), 3 (phase 2) and 6 (phase 3) days via-rodenticide dosed rats. The owls survived after the treament of rodenticide on phase 1 and phase 2 experiments but they died during phase 3 experiment. The results suggest that the difethialone could cause more secondary toxicity to owls.  相似文献

Based on the fact that vitamin A in clinical doses is a potent pro-oxidant agent to the lungs, we investigated here the role of nitric oxide (NO?) in the disturbances affecting the lung redox environment in vitamin A-treated rats (retinol palmitate, doses of 1000-9000 IU?kg(-1)?day(-1)) for 28 days. Lung mitochondrial function and redox parameters, such as lipid peroxidation, protein carbonylation and the level of 3-nytrotyrosine, were quantified. We observed, for the first time, that vitamin A supplementation increases the levels of 3-nytrotyrosine in rat lung mitochondria. To determine whether nitric oxide (NO ?) or its derivatives such as peroxynitrite (ONOO-) was involved in this damage, animals were co-treated with the nitric oxide synthase inhibitor L-NAME (30 mg?kg(-1), four times a week), and we analysed if this treatment prevented (or minimized) the biochemical disturbances resulting from vitamin A supplementation. We observed that L-NAME inhibited some effects caused by vitamin A supplementation. Nonetheless, L-NAME was not able to reverse completely the negative effects triggered by vitamin A supplementation, indicating that other factors rather than only NO? or ONOO- exert a prominent role in mediating the redox effects in the lung of rats that received vitamin A supplementation.  相似文献

Effects of oral vitamin E supplementation on blood malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH) and vitamin E levels and superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) enzyme activities in acute hypothermia of guinea-pigs were investigated. Thirty male guinea pigs, weighing 500-800 g were randomly divided into one of three experimental groups: A (control, without cooling), B (hypothermic) and C (hypothermic with vitamin E supplementation). The guinea-pigs of group C received daily oral supplementation of 460 mg kg(-1) bw vitamin E for 4 days before inducing hypothermia. Twenty-four hours after the last vitamin E supplementation, the guinea-pigs of the B and C groups were cooled by immersion into cold water (10-12 degrees C), and the control guinea-pigs were immersed into water of body temperature (37 degrees C) up to the neck for 5 min without using any anaesthetic or tranquilizer. Rectal body temperatures of groups were measured and blood samples for biochemical analysis were collected immediately after the cooling. The body temperature, GSH and vitamin E levels and GSH-Px enzyme activity of hypothermic guinea-pigs were lower (p < 0.05), but SOD enzyme activity was not different (p > 0.05) from those of control animals. Although, the body temperature of hypothermic with vitamin E supplementation group was lower (p < 0.05), all other parameters of this group were not different (p > 0.05) from the controls. It was concluded that oral supplementation of vitamin E can alleviate the lipid peroxidation-induced disturbances associated with hypothermia by increasing the serum vitamin E level to normal. However, more studies are needed to prove whether this vitamin can improve quality of life during the cold seasons.  相似文献

Does cigarette smoking increase vitamin E utilization in vivo? A trial was carried out in 6 smokers and 5 nonsmokers of comparable ages and serum lipids. Subjects consumed 75 mg each d(3)-RRR and d(6)-all rac-alpha-tocopheryl acetates (natural and synthetic vitamin E, respectively) daily for 7 d with a standardized breakfast. Fasting blood samples were drawn on days -7, -6, -5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 14, 21 (negative days indicate supplementation). In both groups, plasma d(3)-alpha-tocopherol concentrations were approximately double of d(6)-alpha-tocopherol. At day 0, the %d(3) alpha-tocopherols (d(3)-alpha-tocopherol/total-alpha-tocopherol x 100) were similar in both smokers and nonsmokers. Subsequently, there was a trend toward a faster exponential disappearance of the plasma %d(3) alpha-tocopherol in smokers compared with nonsmokers (0.30 +/- 0.04 compared with 0.24 +/- 0.05, p =.0565). The calculated %d(3) half-lives were 55.6 +/- 7.4 h in smokers and 72.1 +/- 17.3 h in nonsmokers (p =.0630). By day 21, the %d(3) in smokers had decreased to 1.4% +/- 0.3% while it was 2.2% +/- 0.7% (p =.0418) in the nonsmokers. These data suggest that smoking increases plasma vitamin E disappearance, but further studies are needed to confirm this finding and to assess its cause.  相似文献

Fructose, an everyday component of western diet associated to chronic hyperglycemia and enhanced free radical production, impairs endothelial function and supplementation with antioxidants might improve it. In this study we investigated if vitamin E could reverse the microvascular damage elicited by fructose. Male Syrian golden hamsters drank either 10% fructose solution (F) or filtered water (C), combined with three concentrations of vitamin E in their chows [zero, normal (VE) or 5X (5XVE)] during 60 days. Microvascular reactivity in response to topical application of acetylcholine (Ach; endothelium-dependent vasodilator) or sodium nitroprusside (SNP; endothelium-independent vasodilator) and macromolecular permeability increase induced by either 30 min ischemia followed by reperfusion (I/R) or topical application of histamine (5 μM) were assessed using the cheek pouch preparation. Compared to controls (drinking filtered water), fructose-drinking animals showed decreased vasodilatation to acetylcholine in all concentrations tested (-56.2% for 10-9M, -53.9% for 10-7M and -43.7% for 10-5M). On the other hand, vitamin E supplementation resulted in increased responses for both water and fructose drinking groups (177.4% for F vs. F/5XVE and 241.6% for C vs. C/5XVE for 10-5M Ach). Endothelial-independent vasodilatation explored by topical application of SNP was restored and even enhanced with the supplementation of 5X vitamin E in both groups (80.1% for F vs. F/5XVE; 144.2% for C vs. C/5XVE; 3.4% of difference for C/5XVE vs. F/5XVE on 10-5M SNP). The number of leaky sites after I/R and histamine stimuli in vitamin E supplemented animals decreased (-25.1% and -15.3% for F vs. F/5XVE; and -21.7% and -16% of leaky sites comparing C vs. C/5XVE, respectively for I/R and histamine stimuli) pointing to tightening of the endothelial barrier for macromolecular permeability. Our results strongly suggest that vitamin E could improve the endothelial function and permeability barrier and also reverse impairments elicited by sugar overload.  相似文献

Twelve clinically healthy subjects participated in a vitamin E supplementation study. Eight were given daily dosages of 150, 225, 800, or 1200 IU RRR-alpha-tocopherol for 21 days (two persons per dose) and four received placebo. Prior, during, and after the supplementation period, alpha-tocopherol, gamma-tocopherol, and carotenoids were determined in plasma and low density lipoprotein (LDL). The maximum levels of alpha-tocopherol were 1.7- to 2.5-times the baseline values in plasma and 1.7- to 3.1-times in LDL. A high correlation existed between alpha-tocopherol in plasma and LDL. gamma-Tocopherol significantly decreased in plasma and LDL during vitamin E supplementation. No significant influence on the lipoprotein and lipid status and carotenoid levels of the participants occurred throughout the supplementation. The resistance of LDL against copper-mediated oxidation was also measured. The oxidation resistance of LDL was significantly higher during vitamin E supplementation. However, the efficacy of vitamin E in protecting LDL varied from person to person. The statistical evaluation of all data gave a correlation of r2 = 0.51 between alpha-tocopherol in LDL and the oxidation resistance as measured by the length of the lag-phase preceding the oxidation of LDL. No association was seen between levels of carotenoids and vitamin E in plasma and LDL. The present study clearly shows that in humans the oxidation resistance of LDL can be increased by vitamin E supplementation.  相似文献

Observational studies have revealed that higher serum vitamin E concentrations and increased vitamin E intake and vitamin E supplementation are associated with beneficial effects on glycaemic control in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, whether vitamin E supplementation exerts a definitive effect on glycaemic control remains unclear. This article involves a meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials of vitamin E to better characterise its impact on HbA1c, fasting glucose and fasting insulin. PubMed, EMBASE and the Cochrane Library were electronically searched from the earliest possible date through April 2013 for all relevant studies. Weighted mean difference (WMD) was calculated for net changes using fixed-effects or random-effects models. Standard methods for assessing statistical heterogeneity and publication bias were used. Fourteen randomised controlled trials involving individual data on 714 subjects were collected in this meta-analysis. Increased vitamin E supplementation did not result in significant benefits in glycaemic control as measured by reductions in HbA1c, fasting glucose and fasting insulin. Subgroup analyses revealed a significant reduction in HbA1c (−0.58%, 95% CI −0.83 to −0.34) and fasting insulin (−9.0 pmol/l, 95% CI −15.90 to −2.10) compared with controls in patients with low baseline vitamin E status. Subgroup analyses also demonstrated that the outcomes may have been influenced by the vitamin E dosage, study duration, ethnic group, serum HbA1c concentration, and fasting glucose control status. In conclusion, there is currently insufficient evidence to support a potential beneficial effect of vitamin E supplementation on improvements of HbA1c and fasting glucose and insulin concentrations in subjects with T2DM.  相似文献
