New Liphistius species (Araneae, Mesothelae) from western and eastern Thailand

Eight new Liphistius species, L. erawan from western Thailand, L. tenuis, L. nesioticus from southeastern Thailand and L. dangrek, L. suwat, L. thoranie, L. pusohm, and L. onoi from northeastern Thailand, are described together with the male of L. ochraceus Ono and Schwendinger. Natural history, zoogeography and relationships between species are discussed. Two superspecies are distinguished. © 1996 The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters     

Five new Liphistius species (Araneae, Mesothelae) from Thailand

Five new Liphistius species are described: L. lahu from northern Thailand, L. isan from northeastern Thailand, L. sayam from central Thailand, L. phileion from southeastern Thailand and L. phuketensis from southern Thailand. Liphistius thaleban Schwendinger is recorded from a new locality in southern Thailand. Notes on natural history are given, zoogeography and relationships between the species examined are discussed and four superspecies are distinguished within the trung -species group.     

Five new Liphistius species (Araneae, Mesothelae) from Thailand

In Schwendiger's (1998) paper on new liphistiid trapdoor spiders from Thailand the illustrations were produced in unusually poor quality. Due to unaccountable technical problems during printing, morphological details given in the illustrations were lost and the overall appearance of the paper became grossly unsatisfactory. To correct this, all figures in that article are reprinted on the following pages.     

On the spider genus Liphistius (Araneae: Mesothelae) in Thailand and Burma

Seven of the ten Liphistius species already known from Thailand and Burma are characterized; three new species, L. lannaianus sp.n., L. marginatus sp.n., L. thaleban sp.n., and the males of L. lordac Platnick & Scdgwiek and L. niphanae Ono are described. Taxonomy and relationships are discussed; considerable variation in female internal genitalia is shown. Notes are given on natural history, distribution, burrow structure, phenology and behaviour.     

A new species of Etlingera (Zingiberaceae) from peninsular Malaysia and southern Thailand

Etlingera corneri , a new species from peninsular Malaysia and southern Thailand is described and illustrated.     

One new species of the genus Savarna Huber, 2005 (Araneae,Pholcidae) from southern Thailand

One new species Savarna kraburiensis sp. n. (♂♀) is reported from southern Thailand.     

Two new Mallinella species from southern China (Araneae,Zodariidae)

Two new species of the spider genus Mallinella Strand, 1906 are reported from China: Mallinella sphaerica sp. n. (male, female) from Tianmu Mountain, Zhejiang Province and Mallinella pluma sp. n. (male) from Daming Mountain, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.     

Five new Platocoelotes species (Araneae,Agelenidae) from caves in southern China

Five new Platocoelotes species are described based on both sexes collected from caves in southern China. They are: Platocoelotes luoi sp. n. from Jiangxi, Platocoelotes qinglinensis sp. n. from Yunnan, Platocoelotes shuiensis sp. n. from Guizhou, Platocoelotes tianyangensis sp. n. from Sichuan and Platocoelotes xianwuensis sp. n. from Hubei.     

Nine new species of the spider genus Stedocys (Araneae,Scytodidae) from China and Thailand

Nine new species of the genus Stedocys Ono,1995 are described:Stedocys gaolingensis Wu & Lisp.n.(♂♀,Guangxi),S.huangniuensis Wu & Lisp.n.(♀,Guangxi),S.ludiyanensis Wu & Lisp.n.(♂♀,Guangxi),S.matuoensis Wu & Lisp.n.(♀,Guangxi),S.pulianensis Wu & Lisp.n.(♂,Guangxi),S.shilinensis Wu & Lisp.n.(♂♀,Hainan),S.xianrenensis Wu & Lisp.n.(♂♀,Guangxi),S.xiangzhouensis Wu & Li sp.n.(♂♀,Guangxi) from China,and S.zhaoi Wu & Lisp.nov.(♂♀,Kanchanaburi) from Thailand.Diagnoses of nine new species are provided.DNA barcodes for six new species are documented for future use and as proof of molecular differences between these species.     

New Paleonura and Pronura species (Collembola, Neanurinae) from Thailand

Five new species of Neanurinac collemboles arc described from Doi Inthanon Mountain (Thailand): Paleonura dilatata sp.n., Paleonura lanna sp.n., Paleonura monochaeta sp.n., Pronura dorsolateralis sp.n. and Pronura ornata sp.n.     

Acutipetala, gen. nov., a new genus of funnel-web spiders from northern Thailand (Araneae, Agelenidae)

A new funnel-web spider genus, Acutipetala, gen. nov., is erected to accommodate two new agelenid species known to occur in evergreen forests of northern Thailand: Acutipetala octoginta, sp. nov. (type species,male symbolfemale symbol) and A. donglini, sp. nov. (male symbol). The genus is established on the basis of the distinctive appearance of the genital structures, in which the median apophysis of the male palp is petal-shaped, sharply pointed, and strongly sclerotized, and the truncate embolus is short, originates subapically, and is provided with a hook-shaped apical portion.     

One new species of the genus Belisana Thorell, 1898 (Araneae,Pholcidae) from northern Vietnam

One new species Belisanadenticulatasp. n. (♂) is reported from northern Vietnam based on material collected by fogging the forest canopy. This species resembles Belisanascharffi Huber, 2005, but can be distinguished by relatively long distance between proximal parts of proximo-lateral apophysis and distal apophysis on male chelicerae, by presence of a nearly saddle-shaped prolateral sclerite on procursus, and by different shape of retrolateral membranous flap on procursus. Type specimens are deposited in the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in Hanoi.     

New species of Prepseudatrichia Kelsey from Thailand (Diptera, Scenopinidae)

A new species of Prepseudatrichia Kelsey, 1969 (Prepseudatrichia tigersp. n.) is described from Thailand, the first record of the genus from the Oriental region. A key to world species of Prepseudatrichia is given.     

New species of Eschweilera (Lecythidaceae) from southern Brazil

Eschweilera tetrapetala Mori andE. alvimii Mori are described and compared withE. compressa (Vellozo) Miers, the only other species of this genus known to have four petals. It is concluded that this small group of species probably evolved from a common ancestor whose range was fragmented by climatic and vegetational changes in the Pleistocene. The distributions ofE. compressa andE. alvimii support the hypothesis that moist forest refuges existed around Rio de Janeiro and southern Bahia/northern Espírito Santo throughout the Pleistocene.     

Three new species of Melloleitaoina Gerschman & Schiapelli, 1960 (Araneae,Mygalomorphae, Theraphosidae) from northern Argentina

Three new species of the monotypic genus Melloleitaoina Gerschman & Schiapelli, 1960 are described from northern Argentina: M. mutquina sp. n., M. uru sp. n. and M. yupanqui sp. n. The female specimen originally described as M. crassifemur is not conspecific with the male holotype and thus is removed from this species and described as M. uru sp. n.; M. crassifemur is redescribed. All species are diagnosed, illustrated and a key to species is provided.     

A new genus of Coelotinae (Araneae,Agelenidae) from southern China

One new genus of the spider subfamily Coelotinae, Flexicoelotesgen. n., with five new species is described from southern China: Flexicoeloteshuyunensissp. n. (female), Flexicoelotesjiaohanyanensissp. n. (male and female), Flexicoelotesjinlongyanensissp. n. (male and female), Flexicoelotespingzhaiensissp. n. (female), Flexicoelotesxingwangensissp. n. (male and female).     

Aeroallergens in northern and southern provinces of Thailand

An aeroallergen survey in two provinces, Chiangmai in the northern and Songkhla in the southern part of Thailand which are 1 500 km apart, was done in 1986 and 1987 using a rotorod sampler. The five most common pollen types and mold spores were: Chiangmai: Mold spores: Cladosporium, rust, Fusarium, Nigrospora, 1-celled spore. Pollen grains: Mimosa, wild grasses, Urticaceae, Cyperaceae, tetrad pollen. Songkhla: Mold spores: Cladosporium, rust, Nigrospora, Papularia, 1-celled spore. Pollen grains: Casuarina, Mimosa, Urticaceae, Cyperaceae, wild grass. There were definite differences in the amount and frequency of occurrences of aeroallergens between these two provinces. Furthermore, some specific pollen and mold spores, such as tetrads and Mimosa pollen, were found only in Chiangmai, and Casuarina pollen and Papularia spores only in Songkhla. These findings might be caused by the differences in geography, plantation and meteorological data.     

New species of Elaphoglossum (Elaphoglossaceae) from northern South America

The fern genusElaphoglossum is well-represented in the Venezuelan pteridoflora with 98 species. Careful observation of the indument of rhizome and blade is necessary to distinguish the taxa. Thirty-three species and one variety are here describe as new:E. anceps, E. appressum, E. atrorubens, E. atrosquamatum, E. chrysopogon, E. crispatum var.crispatum, E. crispatum var.beitelii, E. delicatulum, E. dolichopus, E. drewianum, E. eriopus, E. floccosum, E. grallator, E. hieracioides, E. incubus, E. luteynii, E. maguirei, E. nigrocostatum, E. obovatum, E. ornithoglossum, E. ortegae, E. pilosius, E. praetermissum, E. stenoglossum, E. stergiossi, E. steyermarkii, E. styriacum, E. succubus, E. tachirense, E. tantalinum, E. urophyllum, E. vanderwerffii, E. vareschianum, andE. variolatum.     

New species and a new record of Cycas (Cycadaceae) from Thailand

Two newCycas species from Thailand are here described.C. petraea andC. elephantipes. A noteworthy extensions of the range ofC. macrocarpa into southeastern Thailand is recorded. New taxa are illustrated, distributions of the new taxa are mapped, and a key to the species ofCycas in Thailand is provided.
