Four strains of Kappaphycus alvarezii were cultivated in the subtropical waters of Florianópolis, Santa Catarina State, Brazil (27°29′19′′ S/48°32′28′′ W), from February 2009 to February 2010. Seaweeds were cultivated on floating raft near of mussel farms. Salinity ranged from 29 to 36 psu and temperature from 17.1 to 28.5°C. Higher growth rates (5.12–4.29% day−1) were measured in summer and autumn, showing a positive correlation between growth rate and water temperature. Lower growth rates (0.54–0.32% day−1) occurred in winter, resulted mainly by biomass loss. Significant differences were observed among the strains in spring and the brown tetrasporophytic strain was the only one which failed to recover, being excluded of the experiments. The effect of cultivation periods (36, 42, and 97 days) on carrageenan yield, gel strength, and viscosity were analyzed. Carrageenan yields were higher for plants kept 42 days in the sea (28%), against 25% for 36 and 97 days. There were no significant differences in carrageenan yield among the strains analyzed. Viscosity increased with the increase of cultivation period, while gel strength seemed to vary at random. Tetrasporangia and cystocarps were not observed, and lost fragments did not attach outside the raft. In general, dissolved inorganic nitrogen concentration decreased around the cultivation area as compared to the mussel farm. Results show that cultivation of K. alvarezii is technically feasible in subtropical waters and can be associated with local mussel farms, mitigating the eutrophication and, eventually, increasing the economic return of the farmers.  相似文献

The carbon-flux via algal bloom events involves bacteria as an important mediator. The present study, carried out during the spring inter-monsoon month of April 2008 onboard CRV Sagar Manjusha-06 in the Eastern Arabian Sea, addresses the bloom-specific flow of carbon to bacteria via chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM). Eleven stations monitored were located in the coastal, shelf and open-ocean areas off Ratnagiri (16°59′N, 73°17′E), Goa (15°30′N, 73°48′E) and Bhatkal (13°58′N, 74°33′E) coasts. Visible bloom of “saw-dust” color in the Ratnagiri shelf were microscopically examined and the presence of cyanobacteria Trichodesmium erythraeum and T. thieabautii with cell concentrations as high as 3.05 × 106 trichomes L−1 was recorded. Total bacterial counts (TBC) varied between 94.09 × 108 cells L−1 in the bloom to 1.34 × 108 cells L−1 in the non-bloom area. Chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM) concentrations averaged 2.27 ± 3.02 m−1 (absorption coefficient 325 nm) in the bloom to 0.28 ± 0.07 m−1 in the non-bloom waters respectively. CDOM composition varied from a higher molecular size with lower aromaticity in the bloom to lower molecular size and increased aromaticity in the non-bloom areas respectively. Strong positive relationship of TBC with Chlorophyll a (R 2 = 0.65, p < 0.01) and CDOM concentrations (R 2 = 0.8373, p = 0.01) in the bloom area indicated hydrolysis and/or uptake of CDOM by bacteria. Absorption by mycosporine-like amino acid palythene (λ max = 360 nm) was recorded in the filtrate of bloom. Morphotypes of Trichodesmium-associated bacteria revealed a higher frequency of Gram-positive rods. The role of bacteria in relation to changing CDOM nature and as a factor in affecting oxygen content of the water column is discussed in context of the Arabian Sea.  相似文献

In fjord systems, freshwater inputs occur by ice melting and river discharge, affecting seawater salinity along fjord and adjacent waters, and potentially the ecology of early life stages of marine fish occurring in the area. During austral spring 2008, a bio-oceanographic cruise was carried out in southern Chile between 47°00′ and 50°09′S, an area influenced by Baker River discharge and ice melting of Northern and Southern Ice Fields, the largest glaciers from Patagonia. Surface salinity and temperature ranged from 1.22 to 32.80, and from 8.11 to 10.68°C, respectively. Larval lightfish Maurolicus parvipinnis (Sternoptychidae) and Falkland sprat Sprattus fuegensis (Clupeidae) were the dominant species, with abundances of 2.2–39.9 larvae 10 m−2 and 3.4–77.1 larvae 10 m−2, respectively. Postflexion stages of both species were collected mainly in surface density fronts. Otolith-based growth analyses estimated linear growth rates of 0.136 mm day−1 for M. parvipinnis of 4.1–15.1 mm, and 0.448 mm day−1 for S. fuegensis of 5.4–20.5 mm. Recent Otolith Growth Index (ROGI), based on the residual analysis of the relationship between increment width of outermost five microincrements and otolith radius, indicates that larval M. parvipinnis collected in low salinity waters showed a reduction of its recent growth rate compared those collected in saltier waters. Also, ROGI was positively correlated with salinity of the water column for larval M. parvipinnis. Gut content analysis showed that large larvae collected near sources of freshwater had lower number of prey in its guts and preyed on different items than fish larvae collected in saltier waters. Therefore, freshwater inputs from rivers and glaciers from Patagonia affected horizontal distribution, recent growth and feeding of larval fish in fjords and channels of southern Chile.  相似文献

Morphological and culture studies of germlings derived from carpospores of Chrysymenia wrightii (Harvey) Yamada were carried out under various treatments combining temperature and irradiance. Basal, main, and tip branches were applied for inducing callus-like tissue. Focus was on how carpospores develop into germlings, how callus-like tissues are induced from explants, and how temperature and irradiance affect carpospore germination and discoid crust growth. Results show that carpospore development can be divided into three stages: division stage, discoid crust stage, and erect juvenile germling stage. Discoid crusts, even more than ten, might coalesce into a big discoid crust, and then developed into germlings. Filamentous fronds, formed on the rims of discoid crusts, exhibited in self-existence or co-existence form with germlings, could form spherical tufts if cultured separately. Filamentous callus-like tissues appeared on the tip branches after 13 days. PES is suitable for filament induction and culture, and filaments have potential use in germplasm preservation and vegetative propagation. Temperature (10, 15, 20, 25°C) and irradiance (8 and 36 μmol photons m−2 s−1) significantly influenced carpospore germination rate and discoid crust diameter. Carpospores germinated normally under 36 μmol photons m−2 s−1, 15~25°C, and maximum growth of discoid crusts was at 25°C, 36 μmol photons m−2 s−1; 10°C and 8 μmol photons m−2 s−1 did not favor carpospore germination or discoid crust growth.  相似文献

The effects of temperature, irradiance, and daylength on Sargassum horneri growth were examined at the germling and adult stages to discern their physiological differences. Temperature–irradiance (10, 15, 20, 25, 30°C × 20, 40, 80 μmol photons m−2s−1) and daylength (8, 12, 16, 24 h) experiments were carried out. The germlings and blades of S. horneri grew over a wide range of temperatures (10–25°C), irradiances (20–80 μmol photons m−2s−1), and daylengths (8–24 h). At the optimal growth conditions, the relative growth rates (RGR) of the germlings were 21% day−1 (25°C, 20 μmol photons m−2s−1) and 13% day−1 (8 h daylength). In contrast, the RGRs of the blade weights were 4% day−1 (15°C, 20 μmol photons m−2s−1) and 5% day−1 (12 h daylength). Negative growth rates were found at 20 μmol photons m−2s−1 of 20°C and 25°C treatments after 12 days. This phenomenon coincides with the necrosis of S. horneri blades in field populations. In conclusion, we found physiological differences between S. horneri germlings and adults with respect to daylength and temperature optima. The growth of S. horneri germlings could be enhanced at 25°C, 20 μmol photons m−2s−1, and 8 h daylength for construction of Sargassum beds and restoration of barren areas.  相似文献

We report the migration of Manayunkia speciosa from its distribution in North America into the Neotropical Region (Argentina). We collected specimens from November 2007 to March 2009 in the lower Uruguay River-at 33° 5.01′S 58° 12′W, 33° 5.9′S 58°25.2′W from sediments reaching densities of 2,890 ind. m−2, at a mean abundance of 350 ind. m−2. Introductions of nonindigenous species, resulting intentionally or accidentally from anthropic activities, cause significant changes in ecosystems. In aquatic environments, polychaetes are a key invasive group that increases the geographical range of several species through human activities. M. speciosa may have reached the Río de la Plata Basin through a shipping vector and thereafter the Uruguay River by self-navigation.  相似文献

Chilina gibbosa is an endemic snail widely distributed in Patagonia, Argentina. Due to its importance in the benthic fauna and in the diet of some fish in the oligo-mesotrophic reservoir Ezequiel Ramos Mexía (39° 30′ S, 69° 00′ W), special attention has been given to its life cycle, growth patterns and annual production. Samples were taken monthly at five littoral stations between June 1983 and July 1984. Mean abundance and biomass of C. gibbosa were much higher in vegetated stations dominated by Potamogeton berteroanus (Station 1 : 583 ind. m−2, 5.95 g AFDM m−2) or by Nitella clavata (Station 5 : 275 ind. m−2, 4.18 g AFDM m−2) than bare stations with low transparency or stations with other macrophytes. The snails presented a clustered spatial pattern and their abundance was significantly correlated with macrophyte wet biomass only when this was above 250 g m−2. Analysis of size distributions showed an annual life cycle with a reproductive period in the summer. However, differences in recruitment and growth occurred probably due to differences in water temperature and food availability. Growth was maximum in summer and almost absent during winter. Hence, shell growth data fit a sigmoid curve well, and growth was somewhat higher at Station 1. Annual production at Stations 1 and 5, estimated by the ‘growth increment summation’ method (28.8 g AFDM m−2 and 14.18 g AFDM m−2 respectively), was among the highest recorded for pulmonate gastropods, possibly due to a low interspecific competition. The P : B ratio values were within the range for univoltine gastropods (4.84 and 3.39). The high productivity and turnover rate of these snails grant a high availability of food for the abundant molluscivore, the silverside Patagonina hatcheri.  相似文献

The goal of this research was to determine the role of Lepidostoma hirtum Fabricius 1775 in the fragmentation of allochtonous organic material, in a segment of a mountain river in central Portugal. For this purpose, we measured leaf fragmentation and growth rates at four temperatures (9, 12, 15 and 18 °C) and four leaf types (alder, Alnus glutinosa L.; oak, Quercus andegavensis Hy; poplar, Populus × canadensis Moench; and chestnut, Castanea sativa Mill.). Growth rates ranged from 0.012 to 0.049 mg AFDW day−1 with no significant effect of temperature and leaf type. Fragmentation/consumption rates were significantly higher for alder (1.62 mg animal−1 day−1) than for other leaf types, and significantly lower at 9 °C (0.70 mg animal−1 day−1) than at any other temperature (1.12 mg animal−1 day−1). In the studied stream, L. hirtum larvae had a univoltine life history, with an asynchronous development. Secondary production of L. hirtum ranged from 53.95 mg m−2 year−1 (pools) to 63.12 mg m−2 year−1 (riffles). Annual P/B ratios differ between habitats: they were 4.01 year−1 for pools and 4.49 year−1 for riffles. Considering the average density of this species in the study river and their consumption rates, this species has the potential to fragment 8.6 times the mean annual standing stock of organic matter, in the study location.  相似文献

Summary Pentapora fascialis, one of the largest living bryozoan, is often a predominant part of the benthos on hard subtidal bottoms in the Mediterranean Sea. Conversion factors calculated from laboratory measurements of colony size, biomass and skeleton weight, combined with density of colonies and mean annual growth rate allowed the estimation of carbonate standing stock, biomass and carbonate production ofPentapora fascialis in five sites in the Ligurian Sea. Carbonate standing stock ranged from 281 to 2490 g·m−2, colony biomass varied from 8.82 to 78.01 g·m−2, with a ratio biomass to carbonate standing stock of about 3%. Carbonate production of the bryozoan ranged in the five sites from 358 to 1214 g·m−2·y−1. If compared with the few data available on carbonate production of bryozoans and other sublittoral benthic bioconstructors in the temperate regions,Pentapora fascialis has to be considered one of the major contributors to the carbonatebudget.  相似文献

Summary The present study was undertaken to assess and compare the toxic effects of papaverine hydrochloride and its metabolites. Primary cell cultures of rat hepatocytes were treated with papavarine (papaver), 3′-O-desmethyl (3′-OH), 4′-O-desmethyl (4′-OH), and 6-O-desmethyl (6-OH) papaverine at 1×10−5, 1×10−4, and 1×10−3 M for 4,8, 12, and 24-h periods. Cell injury was determined by: a) cell viability using the trypan blue exclusion test; b) cytosolic enzyme leakage of lactate dehydrogenase and aspartate aminotransferase; c) morphologic alterations; and d) lactate: pyruvate (L:P) ratios. Cell cultures showed concentration-and time-dependent responses. For example, a decrease in cell viability and an increase in enzyme leakage were observed after cell treatment with 1×10−4 and 1×10−3 M papaver for 8 h; 1×10−3 M 6-OH papaverine for 8 h and 1×10−4 M for 24 h; and 1×10−3 M 4′-OH papaverine for 24 h (P<0.05). Furthermore, changes in morphology correlated to cell viability and enzyme release in those cultures treated with papaver, 4′-OH and 6-OH papaverine. Some of these changes included size deformation, cell detachment from the dishes, and cell necrosis. On the other hand, an increase in L:P ratios (P<0.05) was detected with papaver as early as 8 h with 1×10−4 and 1×10−3 M and 12 h with 1×10−5 M; 6-OH showed an increase, in L:P ratios at 8 h with 1×10−3 M and 12 h with 1×10−4 M; these changes were evident with 4′-OH at 12 h with 1×10−3 M. In contrast, cells treated with 3′-OH papaverine did not show significant damage with any time period and concentration used in this study. The results of this study indicate that papaverine-derived metabolites are less cytotoxic than its parent compound, papaver. The toxicity was ranked as follows: papaver>6-OH>4′-OH>−3′-OH. In this study, the kinetic behaviors between n-butyl acetate and composite bead were investigated. Both microbial growth rate and biochemical reaction rate would be inhibited with increasing average inlet concentration. The order of the inhibitive effect, which resulted from increased average inlet concentration for four operation temperatures, was 30>35>40>25 °C. Both microbial growth rate and biochemical reaction rate would be enhanced and inhibited with increasing operation temperature in the operation temperature ranges of 25 to 30 and 30 to 40 °C, respectively. The enhancing and inhibitive effects resulting from increased operation temperature were the most pronounced at the average inlet concentration of 200 ppm. The values of maximum reaction rate V m and half-saturation constant K s ranged from 0.011 to 0.047 g C h−1 kg−1 packed material and from 19.30 to 62.40 ppm, respectively. The zero-order kinetic with the diffusion rate limitation could be regarded as the most adequate biochemical reaction kinetic model. The values of maximum elimination capacity ranged from 0.51 to 0.20 g C h−1 kg−1 packed material, and the optimal maximum elimination capacity of biofilter occurred at the operation temperature of 30 °C.  相似文献

A stable nitrogen isotope analysis was used to clarify the relative importance of denitrification and nitrate uptake by plants in the nitrate reduction in a reed belt of L. Kamisagata (N 37°49′, E 138°53′, alt. 4.5 m, depth 30–80 cm, area 0.025 km2), one of about 20 sand dune lakes in Japan. A very high concentration of NO 3 -N with 19.0 ± 5.9 mg N l−1 in spring sources decreased during passage through the reed belt along two set transect lines about 120 m long in any season, whereas progressive enrichment in 15N-NO 3 in flowing water was detected. Loss rate of nitrate ranged from 38.4 to 73.1% with an average of 56.7 ± 11.6%. Enrichment factors calculated using a Rayleigh curve method ranged from −1.03 to −5.12‰. The contribution of denitrification to nitrate loss ranged from 6 to 28%, with a mean of 19.5% (±7.0), whereas that of plant uptake was from 72 to 94%, with a mean of 80.5% (±7.0), indicating the importance of vegetation in a sand dune riparian zone. A technique using the variation of natural abundance of 15N may provide useful information on the nitrate dynamics in artificial or natural wetlands under a non-destructive condition.  相似文献

Solute mobilities in cuticular membranes of six species (Hedera helix, Malus domestica, Populus alba, Pyrus communis, Stephanotis floribunda, Strophantus gratus) were measured using plant hormones, growth regulators and other organic model compounds varying in molar volumes from 99 to 349 mL · mol−1 The dependence of mobilities (k*) on molar volume (V x ) was exponential and could be described with equations of the type log k*=log k*0 V x . The y-intercepts (log k*0) represent mobilities of a hypothetical solute of zero molar volume. The parameter β′ is a measure of size selectivity of cuticular membranes and no differences among the six species were observed. At 25 °C the average β′ was 0.0095 mol · mL−1. Solute mobility decreased by about a factor of 8.9 when molar volume increased by 100 mL · mol−1 and the mobility of a compound with V x  = 100 mL · mol−1 was about 700-fold higher than the mobility of a compound with V x  = 400 mL · mol−1. Size selectivity decreased with increasing temperatures and for Strophantusβ′-values of 1.6 × 10−2 to 8.0 × 10-4 mol · mL−1 were obtained for 10 and 30 °C, respectively. The-intercepts (log k*0) differed among plant species by 3 orders of magnitude and since size selectivity was the same for all species, solute mobilities for solutes having zero molar volumes were the sole cause for differences among species in solute mobilities and permeabilities. We argue that these differences in k*0 are related to tortuosity of the diffusion path. These results were used to derive an equation which predicts rates of cuticular penetration on the basis of k*0, the average size selectivity of 9.5 × 10−3 mol · mL−1 and the driving forces of penetration. Forests play a major role in global carbon (C) cycle, and the carbon density (CD) could reflect its ecological function of C sequestration. Study on the CD of different forest types on a community scale is crucial to characterize in depth the capacity of forest C sequestration. In this study, based on the forest inventory data of 168 field plots in the study area (E 111°30′–113°50′, N 37°30′–39°40′), the forest vegetation was classified by using quantitative method (TWINSPAN); the living biomass of trees was estimated using the volume-derived method; the CD of different forest types was estimated from the biomass of their tree species; and the effects of biotic and abiotic factors on CD were studied using a multiple linear regression analysis. The results show that the forest vegetation in this region could be classified into 9 forest formations. The average CD of the 9 forest formations was 32.09 Mg ha−1 in 2000 and 33.86 Mg ha−1 in 2005. Form. Picea meyeri had the highest CD (56.48 Mg ha−1), and Form. Quercus liaotungensis Acer mono had the lowest CD (16.14 Mg ha−1). Pre-mature forests and mature forests were very important stages in C sequestration among four age classes in these formations. Forest densities, average age of forest stand, and elevation had positive relationships with forest CD, while slope location had negative correlation with forest CD.  相似文献

In the autumn of 2007, marine mucilage caused by the diatom Coscinodiscus granii occurred in the central area of Ariake Sound, Japan, and resulted in damage to fishery. To elucidate the mechanism underlying the outbreak of marine mucilage, we examined the effect of temperature on cell growth and production of transparent exopolymer particles (TEPs) in a culture of this species. Growth and TEP production of C. granii are influenced by temperature. The maximum growth rate (1.63 divisions day−1) and cell yield (1,280 cells mL−1) at all temperatures were obtained at 30°C. Optimal growth rates (>1.15 divisions day−1: ca. 70% of maximum) and cell yield (>900 cells mL−1: ca. 70% of maximum) were observed at temperatures of 25–30°C. TEP production by C. granii depended on whether volume- or cell-related values were considered. The maximum volume-normalized increase rates and concentrations of TEP at all temperatures were observed at 25°C. However, when production rates and concentrations of TEP were normalized to cell numbers, optimal values were measured at 10–15°C. In Ariake Sound, when marine mucilage caused by C. granii occurred, the temperature ranged from 25.0 to 25.4°C. This suggests that growth conditions of C. granii are important factors for production of marine mucilage.  相似文献

The density, distribution and population structure of Opusia indica were studied through transects method. Two transects were delimited in a mangrove area of Korangi creek (24°79′ N/67°20′ E). On each transect, three 0.25 m2 quadrats were sampled at three tidal levels on a monthly basis during low tide. A total of 1919 crabs were obtained, of which 775 were males, 945 were non-ovigerous females and 199 were ovigerous females. Density of crabs varied between 198 m−2 to 798 m−2. The density and size distribution showed significant difference from low tide level to high tide level and were positively correlated with the percent moisture, percent organic matter and sediment structure. Based on carapace width (CW) males were significantly larger than the females indicating sexual dimorphism. The monthly size frequency distribution of crabs showed recruitment of juvenile crabs (< than 4 mm) nearly throughout the year except in few months. The monthly sex ratio deviated from 1:1 throughout the year, with female bias (χ 2 = 31.633, P = 0.001 and df =11). Breeding was seasonal with peaks in SW monsoon. Size at sexual maturity based on smallest ovigerous female was CW = 4.0 mm. The average number of eggs per female were 2066 ± 479 (n = 25). Positive linear relationship was observed between the size of the female crabs and the egg numbers (r 2 = 0.554).  相似文献

Part of the Larsen A Ice Shelf (64°15′S to 74°15′S) collapsed during January 1995. A first oceanographic and biological data set from the newly free waters was obtained during December 1996. Typical shelf waters with temperatures near and below the freezing point were found. A nutrient-rich water mass (max: PO4 3− 1.80 μmol L−1 and NO3 27.64 μmol L−1) was found between 70 and 200 m depth. Chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) values (max 14.24 μg L−1) were high; surface oxygen saturation ranged between 86 and 148%. Diatoms of the genera Nitzschia and Navicula and the prymnesiophyte Phaeocystis sp. were the most abundant taxa found. Mean daily primary production (Pc) estimated from nutrient consumption was 14.80 ± 0.17 mgC m−3 day−1. Pc was significantly correlated with total diatom abundance and Chl-a. Calculated ΔpCO2 (difference of the CO2 partial pressure between surface seawater and the atmosphere) was –30.5 μatm, which could have contributed to a net CO2 flux from the atmosphere to the sea and suggests the area has been a CO2 sink during the studied period. High phytoplankton biomass and production values were found in this freshly open area, suggesting its importance for biological CO2 pumping.  相似文献

During January 1989, phytoplankton biomass and species composition were studied in a north / south transect at the Weddell / Scotia Confluence (47°W), between 57° and 61°30′S. Results showed a diatom bloom in the Scotia Sea (chlorophyll a 1.9 μg l−1, particulate organic carbon 239 μg l−1), dominated by Fragilariopsis cylindrus, Dactyliosolen antarcticus and Chaetoceros dichaeta. Low chlorophyll a / phaeopigments ratios (about 1.4) and silicate concentrations (15 μmol l−1) suggested that this was an advanced bloom phase, probably linked to high grazing pressure. Minimum chlorophyll a values of 0.1–0.2 μg l−1 and particulate organic carbon 46 μg l−1 were found at the Weddell / Scotia Front and in a subsurface layer of the Weddell Sea Water. In the southern part of the transect (61°30′S), in the Weddell Sea, a second surface maximum was found (chlorophyll a 0.9 μg l−1, particulate organic carbon 120 μg l−1), but with a different species composition, with Cryptomonas sp. dominant. Our results show a succession within the diatom community in the Weddell / Scotia Confluence Waters when comparing the three EPOS legs. In the Weddell Sea from spring to summer, nanoflagellates, with only a minor contribution from diatoms, persist over a long period with little change in the community structure. We suggest that the frontal system, together with the receding ice edge and the grazing pressure of either krill or protozooplankton, are mainly responsible for the phytoplankton distribution patterns found. Summary In a fringing reef at Aqaba at the northern end of the Gulf of Aqaba (29°26′N) growth rates, density, and the calcification rate ofPorites were investigated in order to establish calculations of gross carbonate production for the reefs in this area. Colony accretion ofPorites decreases with depth as a function of decreasing growth rates. The calcification rate ofPorites is highest in shallow water (0–5 m depth) with 0.9 g·cm−2·yr−1 and falls down to 0.5 g·cm−2·yr−1 below 30 m. Scleractinian coral gross production is calculated from potential productivity and coral coverage. It is mainly dependent on living coral cover and to a lesser extent on potential productivity. Total carbonate production on the reef ranged from 0 to 2.7 kg/m2 per year, with a reef-wide average of 1.6 kg/m2 perycar. Maximum gross carbonate production by corals at Aqaba occurs at the reef crest and in the middle fore-reef from 10 to 15 m water depth. Production is low in sandy reef parts. Below 30 m depth values still reach ca. 50% of shallow water values. Mean potential production of colonies and gross carbonate production of the whole reef community at Aqaba is lower than in tropical reefs. However, carbonate production is higher than in reef areas at the same latitude in the Pacific, indicating a northward shift of reef production in the Red Sea.  相似文献

Studies on the chemical and biological properties of annual pack ice at a coastal station in Terra Nova Bay (74°41.72′S, 164°11.63′E) were carried out during austral spring at 3-day intervals from 5 November to 1 December 1997. Temporal changes of nutrient concentrations, algal biomasses, taxonomic composition, photosynthetic pigment spectra and P–E relationships were studied. Quantity, composition and degradation rates of organic matter in the intact sea ice were also investigated. In addition, microcosm experiments were carried out to evaluate photosynthetic and photo-acclimation processes of the sympagic flora in relation to different light regimes. High concentrations of ammonia were measured in four ice-cores (weighted mean values of the cores ranged from 4.3 ± 1.9 μM to 7.2 ± 3.4 μM), whereas nitrate and phosphate displayed high concentrations (up to 35.9 μM and 7.6 μM, respectively) only in the bottom layer (135–145 cm depth). Particulate carbohydrate and protein concentrations in the intact sea ice ranged from 0.5 to 2.3 mg l−1 and 0.2 to 2.0 mg l−1, respectively, displaying a notable accumulation of organic matter in the bottom colored layer, where bacterial enzymatic activities also reached the highest values. Aminopeptidase activity was extremely high (up to 19.7 μM l−1 h−1 ± 0.05 in the bottom layer), suggesting a rapid turnover rate of nitrogen–enriched organic compounds (e.g. proteins). By contrast, bacterial secondary production was low, suggesting that only a very small fraction of mobilized organic matter was converted into bacterial biomass (<0.01‰). The sympagic autotrophic biomass (in terms of chlorophaeopigments) of the bottom layer was high, increasing during the sampling period from 680 to 2480 μg l−1. Analyses of pigments performed by HPLC, as well as microscope observations, indicated that diatoms dominated bottom communities. The most important species were Amphiprora sp. and Nitschia cfr. stellata. Bottom sympagic communities showed an average P B max of 0.12 mgC mg Chl−1 and low photoadaptation index (E k=18 μE m−2 s−1, E m=65 μE m−2 s−1). Results of the microcosm experiment also indicated that communities were photo-oxidized when irradiance exceeded 100 μE m−2 s−1. This result suggests that micro- autotrophs inhabiting sea ice might have a minor role in the pelagic algal blooms. Accepted: 4 August 1999  相似文献
