This minireview is meant as an introduction to the following paper. To this end, it presents the general background against which the joint paper should be understood. The first objective of the present paper is thus to clarify some concepts and related terminology, drawing a clear distinction between i) atomic diversity (i.e., atomic‐property space), ii) molecular or macromolecular diversity (i.e., molecular‐ or macromolecular‐property spaces), and iii) chemical diversity (i.e., chemical‐diversity space). The first refers to the various electronic states an atom can occupy. The second encompasses the conformational and property spaces of a given (macro)molecule. The third pertains to the diversity in structure and properties exhibited by a library or a supramolecular assembly of different chemical compounds. The ground is thus laid for the content of the joint paper, which pertains to case ii, to be placed in its broader chemodiversity context. The second objective of this paper is to point to the concepts of chemodiversity and biodiversity as forming a continuum. Chemodiversity is indeed the material substratum of organisms. In other words, chemodiversity is the material condition for life to emerge and exist. Increasing our knowledge of chemodiversity is thus a condition for a better understanding of life as a process.  相似文献

Plant Functional Diversity and Species Diversity in the Mongolian Steppe   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  

Background

The Mongolian steppe is one of the most important grasslands in the world but suffers from aridization and damage from anthropogenic activities. Understanding structure and function of this community is important for the ecological conservation, but has seldom been investigated.

Methodology/Principal Findings

In this study, a total of 324 quadrats located on the three main types of Mongolian steppes were surveyed. Early-season perennial forbs (37% of total importance value), late-season annual forbs (33%) and late-season perennial forbs (44%) were dominant in meadow, typical and desert steppes, respectively. Species richness, diversity and plant functional type (PFT) richness decreased from the meadow, via typical to desert steppes, but evenness increased; PFT diversity in the desert and meadow steppes was higher than that in typical steppe. However, above-ground net primary productivity (ANPP) was far lower in desert steppe than in the other two steppes. In addition, the slope of the relationship between species richness and PFT richness increased from the meadow, via typical to desert steppes. Similarly, with an increase in species diversity, PFT diversity increased more quickly in both the desert and typical steppes than that in meadow steppe. Random resampling suggested that this coordination was partly due to a sampling effect of diversity.

Conclusions/Significance

These results indicate that desert steppe should be strictly protected because of its limited functional redundancy, which its ecological functioning is sensitive to species loss. In contrast, despite high potential forage production shared by the meadow and typical steppes, management of these two types of steppes should be different: meadow steppe should be preserved due to its higher conservation value characterized by more species redundancy and higher spatial heterogeneity, while typical steppe could be utilized moderately because its dominant grass genus Stipa is resistant to herbivory and drought.  相似文献

植酸酶是一类催化植酸水解逐步释放磷酸基团形成低级肌醇磷酸衍生物的正磷酸单酯磷酸水解酶。植酸酶在动物营养、资源环境保护和人类健康等领域有巨大的应用潜力。目前,人们对植酸酶的多样性及其分类的认识比较模糊甚至错误,严重影响了植酸酶的研究进程和水平。首先简要概述了基于最适pH和立体专一性的植酸酶分类,然后着重论述了基于结构和催化机理的植酸酶分类及其代表酶特征的最新研究进展,最后探讨了根据不同分类标准特别是基于结构和催化机理准确理解和全面表征各种植酸酶的重要性,以期为植酸酶的研究和应用提供参考。  相似文献

生物为了适应环境变化,需要遗传物质发生变化来为进化提供材料,在进化过程中遗传物质的变化方式主要包括突变和基因重排。对一个种群或个体来讲,在不同的环境或一定生活周期内的不同阶段,基因组存在着基因的差次表达,这种调控在核酸分子水平上主要是通过突变的基因重排水平实现,由此使得基因组成为一个动态变化的体系,使种群或个体的遗传多样性发生相应的变化。分子生物学中最惊人的发现之一是在基因组内存在着通过DNA转录为RNA后,再经逆转录成为cDNA并插入到基因组的新位点上的因子,被称为逆转座子。按照其结构特点以及所编码反转录蛋白因子的不同,可分为反转录转位因子,反转录子,反转录病毒,能编码反转录所需蛋白的因子,不能编码反转录所需蛋白的因子。逆转座子在转位过程中须以RNA作为中间体,RNA较易变异,且RNA聚合酶和逆转录酶均无校对功能,这就使得逆转座子具有高度变异性。逆转座子可通过遗传变异,基因重排或对基因表达的影响,导致生物遗传多样性的形成。逆转座子除了能够促进基因的流动性增加遗传多样性外,它们散布在基因组中,还能够成为进化的种子。  相似文献

We do not know how many bacterial species exist in the world, or in any particular environment, because bacteria cannot be differentiated under the microscope; we do not even know the right order of magnitude. Thus, up to a few years ago, discussions of bacterial diversity were unwarranted. Sulfate residues attached to the specific position of the component sugar residues of glycosaminoglycans play important roles in the formation of functional domain structures. The introduction of a sulfate group is catalyzed by various sulfotransferases with strict substrate specificities. 气-水两生型真菌通常定植于自然森林生态系统中溪流或池塘沉积的腐枝叶上,菌丝生长于水体底部,当沉积物暴露于空气中时,形成分生孢子并发育成中空的孢子繁殖体,使其能漂浮在水面,附着新的基质,进行生长繁殖。世界范围内已报道约20属116种,大多为无性型的丝孢菌,其独特的生存环境和产孢特点,在真菌的形态、生态和系统演化上有重要研究价值。文中主要从多样性和分类学、采集与分离培养、孢子形态和发育、有性型-无性型关系、系统演化关系等方面对其进行了综述,为该类真菌系统的研究及潜在的应用提供参考。  相似文献

Mokola virus (MOKV) appears to be exclusive to Africa. Although the first isolates were from Nigeria and other Congo basin countries, all reports over the past 20 years have been from southern Africa. Previous phylogenetic studies analyzed few isolates or used partial gene sequence for analysis since limited sequence information is available for MOKV and the isolates were distributed among various laboratories. The complete nucleoprotein, phosphoprotein, matrix and glycoprotein genes of 18 MOKV isolates in various laboratories were sequenced either using partial or full genome sequencing using pyrosequencing and a phylogenetic analysis was undertaken. The results indicated that MOKV isolates from the Republic of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Central African Republic and Nigeria clustered according to geographic origin irrespective of the genes used for phylogenetic analysis, similar to that observed with Lagos bat virus. A Bayesian Markov-Chain-Monte-Carlo- (MCMC) analysis revealed the age of the most recent common ancestor (MRCA) of MOKV to be between 279 and 2034 years depending on the genes used. Generally, all MOKV isolates showed a similar pattern at the amino acid sites considered influential for viral properties.  相似文献

趋磁细菌是一类可以沿磁场方向进行运动的微生物统称,在细胞内合成由生物膜包被、链状排列、纳米级、单磁畴的磁铁矿 (Fe3O4) 或胶黄铁矿 (Fe3S4) 的磁小体颗粒。趋磁细菌在自然界分布广泛且多样性丰富,不仅在水环境和沉积环境的铁、硫、碳、氮、磷等元素生物地球化学循环中发挥重要作用,而且在污染治理、疾病诊断和治疗等方面有较好的应用。趋磁细菌磁小体由生物膜包被并在细胞调控下合成,是一类新型的生物源磁性纳米材料。相比常规化学合成的磁性纳米颗粒,磁小体具有大小均一、生物相容性高、兼具化学修饰和基因工程修饰功能等特点,在磁性分离、固定化酶、食品检测、环境监测、医学诊断、磁共振成像、磁热疗和靶向治疗等方面具有广阔的应用前景。在介绍趋磁细菌多样性研究的基础上,综述了趋磁细菌和磁小体的制备、修饰及其应用的最新进展,并对未来的研究进行了展望。  相似文献

Most mycorrhizas are 'balanced' mutualistic associations in which the fungus and plant exchange commodities required for their growth and survival. Myco-heterotrophic plants have 'exploitative' mycorrhizas where transfer processes apparently benefit only plants. Exploitative associations are symbiotic (in the broad sense), but are not mutualistic. A new definition of mycorrhizas that encompasses all types of these associations while excluding other plant-fungus interactions is provided. This definition recognises the importance of nutrient transfer at an interface resulting from synchronised plant-fungus development. The diversity of interactions between mycorrhizal fungi and plants is considered. Mycorrhizal fungi also function as endophytes, necrotrophs and antagonists of host or non-host plants, with roles that vary during the lifespan of their associations. It is recommended that mycorrhizal associations are defined and classified primarily by anatomical criteria regulated by the host plant. A revised classification scheme for types and categories of mycorrhizal associations defined by these criteria is proposed. The main categories of vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal associations (VAM) are 'linear' or 'coiling', and of ectomycorrhizal associations (ECM) are 'epidermal' or 'cortical'. Subcategories of coiling VAM and epidermal ECM occur in certain host plants. Fungus-controlled features result in 'morphotypes' within categories of VAM and ECM. Arbutoid and monotropoid associations should be considered subcategories of epidermal ECM and ectendomycorrhizas should be relegated to an ECM morphotype. Both arbuscules and vesicles define mycorrhizas formed by glomeromycotan fungi. A new classification scheme for categories, subcategories and morphotypes of mycorrhizal associations is provided.  相似文献

The actinomycetes, although not all the Actinobacteria, are easy to isolate from the marine environment. However, their ecological role in the marine ecosystem is largely neglected and various assumptions meant there was little incentive to isolate strains for search and discovery of new drugs. However, the marine environment has become a prime resource in search and discovery for novel natural products and biological diversity, and marine actinomycetes turn out to be important contributors. Similarly, striking advances have been made in marine microbial ecology using molecular techniques and metagenomics, and actinobacteria emerge as an often significant, sometimes even dominant, environmental clade. Both approaches - cultivation methods and molecular techniques - are leading to new insights into marine actinobacterial biodiversity and biogeography. Very different views of actinobacterial diversity emerge from these, however, and the true extent and biogeography of this are still not clear. These are important for developing natural product search and discovery strategies, and biogeography is a hot topic for microbial ecologists.  相似文献
