Summary 88 strains of yeast and 4 strains of fungi imperfecti have been isolated from dough from three more districts of East Pakistan. The yeasts comprise 53 strains ofSaccharomyces carlsbergensis, 15 strains ofCandida krusei, 8 strains ofCandida guilliermondii var.membranaefaciens, 6 strains ofTorulopsis colliculosa, 2 strains ofTorulopsis globosa, and 4 strains ofHansenula anomala. Of the four strains of fungi imperfecti, 3 belonged toCladosporium butyri and one toSporophora sp. TheSporophora sp. is considered to be a contaminant.The 92 isolates have been tested for their capacity to ferment -methyl glucoside. The possibility of the utilisation of the fermentation of -methyl glucoside as an additional character in yeast taxonomy has been discussed.Tests for the syntheses of various members of vitamin B-complex have shown that all the 92 isolates are more or less autotrophic.  相似文献

Pleistocene porcupine remains from China allocated toAtherurus sp.,Atherurus cf.macrourus andTrichys cf.fasciculata, and from Vietnam toAtherurus macrourus have been studied. These fossils have been compared with the type material of the PleistoceneA. karnuliensis Lydekker, 1886 from India and with the extant speciesA. macrourus (Linnaeus, 1758) andTrichys fasciculata (Shaw, 1801). Non-O1/non-O139 nontoxigenic Vibrio cholerae associated with cholera-like diarrhea has been reported in Kolkata, India. However, the property involved in the pathogenicity of these strains has remained unclear. The character of 25 non-O1/non-O139 nontoxigenic V. cholerae isolated during 8 years from 2007 to 2014 in Kolkata was examined. Determination of the serogroup showed that the serogroups O6, O10, O35, O36, O39, and O70 were represented by two strains in each serogroup, and the remaining isolates belonged to different serogroups. To clarify the character of antibiotic resistance of these isolates, an antibiotic resistance test and the gene analysis were performed. According to antimicrobial drug susceptibility testing, 13 strains were classified as drug resistant. Among them, 10 strains were quinolone resistant and 6 of the 13 strains were resistant to more than three antibiotics. To define the genetic background of the antibiotic character of these strains, whole-genome sequences of these strains were determined. From the analysis of these sequences, it becomes clear that all quinolone resistance isolates have mutations in quinolone resistance-determining regions. Further research on the genome sequence showed that four strains possess Class 1 integrons in their genomes, and that three of the four integrons are found to be located in their genomic islands. These genomic islands are novel types. This indicates that various integrons containing drug resistance genes are spreading among V. cholerae non-O1/non-O139 strains through the action of newly generated genomic islands.  相似文献

Based on an analysis of results from experimental hybridization, the plants assigned byMunz toOenothera subg.Oenothera and subg.Raimannia, now divided into approximately 76 species, are referred to a single section,Oenothera. This section is in turn divided into five subsections:Euoenothera, Munzia, Raimannia, Emersonia, and an undescribed group of three species related toOenothera pubescens. Euoenothera is maintained in the traditional sense, and includes about 14 species of North America, widely naturalized elsewhere.Munzia consists of 45 species, comprising three series, and native to South America.Raimannia is restricted to a group of approximately 11 North American species.Emersonia comprises four rather heterogenous species of northern Mexico and southern New Mexico, of whichOenothera macrosceles, O. maysillesii, andO. organensis have been described. Within these four subsections, interspecific hybrids can be made in general, although plastid differentiation often leads to incompatibilities. With varying degrees of difficulty, hybrids were produced in all intersectional combinations involvingEuoenothera, Emersonia, Munzia, andRaimannia, the most difficult being those betweenEmersonia andRaimannia. Based on their habit and distribution,Emersonia species, and especiallyOenothera maysillesii, appear to resemble most closely the common ancestor of the section,Euoenothera andMunzia to have been derived from it or its common ancestor, andRaimannia perhaps to be more closely related to the phylogenetic branch that leads toEuoenothera.  相似文献

该文报道了四川凤仙花属四新记录种,即睫毛萼凤仙花(Impatiens blepharosepala Pritz. ex Diels)、红纹凤仙花(Impatiens rubro-striata Hook. f.)、滇西北凤仙花(Impatiens lecomtei Hook. f.)及松林凤仙花(Impatiens pinetorum Hook. f. ex W. W. Smith),并进行了鉴定和讨论,同时提供了相关照片。凭证标本保存于西昌学院标本室(XIAS)中。我国西南地区是世界五大凤仙花属植物分布中心地区之一,此次在四川发现的四新记录种均为我国特有种,该发现对于研究我国西南地区凤仙花属植物的起源和扩散路线具有一定的指导意义。  相似文献

A large number ofPenicillium nalgiovense isolates from mould fermented sausages and the ex type culture were examined for characters of morphology, physiology and production of secondary metabolites. To separate biotypes within theP. nalgiovense species, the data obtained were evaluated using multivariate statistical methods. The macromorphological characters of the ex type culture and isolates from meat products appeared to be distinctive. The ex type culture is characterized by a brown reverse on both Czapek yeast extract and malt extract agar while the isolates from meat products have a yellow to orange reverse. Proteolytic and/or lipolytic activity was demonstrated by 75% of the examined cultures and all of them demonstrated ability to utilize lactate as sole carbon source. Growth on creatine sucrose agar was very inhibited and acid production was absent or very weak. TLC analysis showed production of three unknown secondary metabolites that constituted the characteristic profile. HPLC analysis showed production of only three known secondary metabolites; chrysogine (96%), nalgiolaxin and nalgiovensin (9%). The ex type culture produced nalgiolaxin and nalgiovensin but not chrysogine. The chemometric evaluation showed thatP. nalgiovense isolates from meat products from a homogenous species, which can not be divided into biotypes. The only indication of grouping, beside a separation of the ex type culture, was related to the conidium colour (white, turquoise or grey green). The examinedP. nalgiovense isolates showed some resemblance (morphologically and chemically) toP. chrysogenum.  相似文献

The phylogeny of 67 populations representing 45 species of Aulacoseira Thwaites was estimated by maximum parsimony methods using a combination of nucleotide sequence data and qualitative and quantitative morphological characteristics of the silica cell wall gathered primarily from original observation by LM and SEM. A new type of character using continuous quantitative variables that describe the ontogenetic‐allometric trajectories of cell wall characteristics over the life cycle (size range) of diatoms is introduced. In addition to the 45 Aulacoseira species, the phylogeny also incorporated one Miosira Krammer, Lange‐Bertalot, and Schiller species and two outgroup species (Melosira varians Agardh and Stephanopyxis nipponica Gran & Yendo). Fifteen species, represented by 24 populations, also contained molecular data from the nuclear genome (18S rDNA), and 11 of these species (18 populations) contained data from the chloroplast genome (rbcL) as well, which were sequenced or downloaded from GenBank. The phylogeny of Aulacoseira is composed of five major clades: 1) an A. crenulata (Ehrenburg) Thwaites and A. italica (Ehrenburg) Simonsen clade, which is the most basal; 2) an A. granulata (Ehrenburg) Simonsen complex clade; 3) an A. ambigua (Grunow) Simonsen clade; 4) an A. subarctica (O. Müller) Haworth and A. distans (Ehrenburg) Simonsen clade; and 5) an A. islandica (O. Müller) Simonsen clade that also contained endemic species from Lake Baikal, Siberia and many extinct Aulacoseira taxa. Monophyly of Aulacoseira can only be achieved if Miosira is no longer given separate generic status.  相似文献

In Jamaica, phloem-restricted prokaryotes were found associated with a little leaf proliferation disease of Wissadula periplocifolia (L.) C. Presl. ex Thwaites. Electron microscopy of single ultrathin sections revealed circular, ovate and elongate profiles 120—500 nm in diameter/width and 125—4200 nm long. Most were bound by a double membrane and resembled the phloem-restricted rickettsialike organisms associated with a small number of other plant diseases; others which were peripherally ill-defined or without an obvious double membrane were indistinguishable from mycoplasmalike organisms. Further work is required to elucidate their taxonomic status and possible role in the aetiology of the disease. No potential aetiological agent was discovered for a symptomatologically similar disease of Abuliton hulseanum (Torr. & A. Gray) Torr. ex Chapm. which accurred intermixed with the Wissadula disease. The names Wissadula proliferation and Abutilon proliferation have been used to describe these newly recorded diseases.  相似文献

Micromorphology and distribution of trichomes (both secretory and not) in different parts of plants of the five Italian species belonging toTeucrium sect.Chamaedrys have been studied. These characters neatly evidence the differences between the taxa considered; of particular interest are the observations concerning the dense coverage of peltate hairs on the abaxial face of the leaves ofT. flavum subsp.glaucum and the characters contributing to a better identification ofT. marum andT. subspinosum. The importance of the calyx indumentum as distinctive taxonomical character of the genusTeucrium is confirmed, stressing at the same time the necessity of completing the observations at micromorphological level.  相似文献

对于共头霉的唯一已知种总状共头霉Syncephalastrum racemosum Cohn ex Schroet.(S 1)和新发现的具单孢孢子囊的新种单孢共头霉下的三个变种,原变种S.monosporum Zheng et al. var. monosporum( S7, S8, S9),冠囊变种var. cristatum Zheng et al. (S10, S11)及多重生变种var. pluriproliferum Zheng et al.(S12) 6株菌的蛋白和酯酶进行了聚丙烯酰胺凝胶电泳的研究.这4个分类群的蛋白图谱和酯酶酶谱互不相同,而同一分类群内各个菌株之间则有很高的相似性.从计算出的相似性百分数来看,3个新变种相互之间有较为密切的关系,而和S. racemosum虽然较疏远,但也有相当程度的亲缘关系.这些结果被认为支持了根据形态鉴定而定这三个新变种属于同一新种内并将其和S. racemosum一并归属于一个属内.由此可见,聚丙烯酰胺凝胶电泳是共头霉分类的有用的辅助手段.  相似文献

Pathogenic and drug-resistant strains of Escherichia coli (E. coli) O25b-B2-ST131, O15:H1-D-ST393, and CGA (clonal group A) clonal groups have spread worldwide. This study aimed at determining E. coli epidemic clonal groups, their virulence factors, biofilm formation, neutrophils apoptosis, and antimicrobial resistance pattern of uropathogenic E. coli. A total of 95 CTX-M-1-producing E. coli clinical isolates were enrolled. E. coli O25b-B2-ST131, CGA, and O15:K52:H1 were identified by serotyping and phylogrouping and allele-specific polymerase chain reaction-based assay. Antibiotic susceptibility, biofilm formation, hemolysis, and human serum bactericidal assay were performed. Neutrophil apoptosis was assayed by flow cytometry. Nine E. coli clonal groups including six O25b-B2-ST131 strains, two CGA, and one O15:K52:H1-D-ST393 strains were detected. One O25b-B2-ST131 isolate was a strong biofilm-producer. Three ST131 isolates had type I fimbriae. Furthermore, all the CGA and O15:K52:H1 and three of ST131 isolates harbored the P fimbriae. The virulence genes ompT, fimH, and traT were detected among all the clonal groups. The apoptosis was induced by O25b-B2-ST131, CGA, and O15:K52:H1 E. coli. There was no significant difference regarding apoptosis induction among clonal groups. Furthermore, the presence of the cdt, usp, and vat genes was significantly associated with the apoptosis of neutrophils by O25b-B2-ST131, CGA, and O15:K52:H1-D-ST393 clonal groups.  相似文献

The polar lipids and fatty acid composition ofThermus aquaticus YT-1 and YS 041,T. filiformis Wai33 A1 and eighteen isolates from New Zealand, several of which are attributed toT. filiformis, were compared to complement the taxonomy of these organisms. The polar lipid patterns were essentially similar in all strains and consisted of one major phospholipid and one major glycolipid. The fatty acid analysis produced three basic groups corresponding toT. filiformis Wai33 A1,T. aquaticus and the third to the other New Zealand strains. Rhynchospora pseudomacrostachya (Cyperaceae) is restricted to the southern Brazil states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina. Previously, material ofR. pseudomacrostachya had been thought to belong toR. corniculata var.macrostachya (Torr. ex A. Gray) Britton (R. macrostachya Torr. ex A. Gray) of North America. 运用相邻格子法及聚集度指标测定法,在植被调查的基础上,对云南普洱不同恢复阶段(恢复15a、30a和老龄林)季风常绿阔叶林的刺栲(Castanopsis hystrix)、短刺栲(Castanopsis echidnocarpa)和红木荷(Schima wallichii)3个优势物种进行种群空间分布格局研究,以阐明种群分布格局与生境条件、种群年龄结构的动态关系,揭示种群发育过程中空间动态与生物学机理。结果发现:在所有恢复阶段内,刺栲、短刺栲、红木荷均为聚集分布。在不同尺度下,刺栲在原始林中10m×10m尺度下为均匀分布,而在恢复15年中20m×20m尺度为随机分布;红木荷在10m×20m尺度下为均匀分布,在其它所有恢复阶段和尺度下3个物种均为聚集分布。研究结果表明,不同恢复阶段和不同尺度下刺栲、短刺栲和红木荷3个优势物种绝大多数为聚集分布,说明聚集分布为3个优势种的基本属性。  相似文献

The morphological and physical characteristics of the capsule of Vibrio cholerae O139 were examined. An electron microscopic study using the freeze-substitution technique showed that all of the V. cholerae strains of the O139 serogroup examined have a very thin fibrous layer on the outside of the outer membrane. In contrast, the mutants of strain O139, strain MO10T4 (which lacks capsule synthesis), and strain Bengal-2R1 (which fails to synthesize both the capsule and the O-antigen of lipopolysaccharide) were all found to have lost the surface layer. In addition, the capsule layer could also not be observed on the surface of V. cholerae strain O1. To determine the biological characteristics of the capsule of strains of the O139 serogroup, we investigated the serum killing activity and bacterial phagocytosis by polymorphonuclear leukocytes. The O139 strains were more resistant to the serum killing activity than were the V. cholerae O1 strain and the O139 mutant strains, thus suggesting that the existence of the capsule gave a serum-resistant character to the O139 strains. The surface character of the O139 strains had the same hydrophobic character as did that of the O139 mutant strains and the O1 strain. In addition, all the V. cholerae O1 and O139 strains examined, including the mutant strains, were effectively ingested by the human polymorphonuclear leukocytes. The number of ingested bacteria was not significantly different among the strains, and the ingestion of the acapsular O139 mutants thus showed that the capsule does not play an antiphagocytic role. These data suggest that the capsule of V. cholerae O139 has a physiological function different from that of the ordinal hydrophilic capsule that is found in invasive bacteria such as Klebsiella pneumoniae. Are size and arrangement of valve mantle areolae in Aulacoseira Thwaites adapted to light intensity? To test one criterion demonstrating an adaptation, heritability experiments were run on isolates of Aulacoseira subarctica (Müller) Haworth. Several clones of A. subarctica were isolated from Yellowstone Lake (Wyoming, USA), Lewis Lake (Wyoming), and East Rosebud Lake (Montana, USA). Two to four clones from each lake were grown in batch cultures under three irradiance levels: 2, 11.4, and 115 μmol photons·m?2·s?1. Five randomly chosen valves for each of two replicates of each clone were examined using a scanning electron microscope for a total of 300 valves. Size measurements were taken for each valve examined, and images of mantle areolae were captured on film at a magnification of 20,000×. Each image was digitized, and quantitative morphometric areolar characters were measured. A quantitative genetic analysis was performed within each light environment for the mean area of the external opening of mantle areolae, the mean distance between areolae within pervalvar striae, and the mean distance between pervalvar striae. Resulting estimates of heritability from among‐lake and within‐lake analyses indicate that all three mantle areolar characters could presently respond to selection and thus have potentially done so in the past.  相似文献

The genera Esoptrodinium Javornický and Bernardinium Chodat comprise freshwater, athecate dinoflagellates with an incomplete cingulum but differing reports regarding cingulum orientation and the presence of chloroplasts and an eyespot. To examine this reported diversity, six isolates were collected from different freshwater ponds and brought into clonal culture. The isolates were examined using LM to determine major cytological differences, and rDNA sequences were compared to determine relatedness and overall phylogenetic position within the dinoflagellates. All isolates were athecate with a left‐oriented cingulum that did not fully encircle the cell, corresponding to the current taxonomic concept of Esoptrodinium. However, consistent cytological differences were observed among clonal isolates. Most isolates exhibited unambiguous pale green chloroplasts and a distinct bright‐red eyespot located at the base of the longitudinal flagellum. However, one isolate had cryptic chloroplasts that were difficult to observe using LM, and another had an eyespot that was so reduced as to be almost undetectable. Another isolate lacked visible chloroplasts but did possess the characteristic eyespot. Nuclear rDNA phylogenies strongly supported a monophyletic Esoptrodinium clade containing all isolates from this study together with a previous sequence from Portugal, within the Tovelliaceae. Esoptrodinium subclades were largely correlated with cytological differences, and the data suggested that independent chloroplast and eyespot reduction and/or loss may have occurred within this taxon. Overall, the isolates encompassed the majority of cytological diversity reported in previous observations of Bernardinium/Esoptrodinium in field samples. Systematic issues with the current taxonomic distinction between Bernardinium and Esoptrodinium are discussed.  相似文献

The experimental transfer of the vanA gene cluster from Enterococcus faecalis to Staphylococcus aureus has raised fears about the occurrence of such genetic transfer in clinical isolates of methicillin-resistant staphylococci. Recently, infections by a S. aureus strain carrying the enterococcal vancomycin resistance vanA gene cluster were reported. The possible emergence and dissemination of these strains is a serious health threat and makes optimization of prevention strategies and fast detection methods absolutely necessary. In the present study, we developed a PCR protocol for simultaneous detection of enterococcal vanA and vanB genes , the staphylococcal methicillin and mupirocin resistance markers mecA and ileS-2, and identification of S. aureus. As no vancomycin-resistant S. aureus isolates were available for our study, we used mixtures of enterococcal and staphylococcal colonies that harbored the different resistance markers to show that these genes could be detected simultaneously. This protocol could be used to facilitate the detection and identification of predictable S. aureus or methicillin-resistant strains carrying vanA or vanB.  相似文献

The systematics of theLactobacillus population of the intestines of 88 different rats was studied; 80 rats had been fed on fermented oat-meal soup (Molin et al. 1992). One-hundred-twenty-twoLactobacillus strains from the intestinal mucosa were phenotypically classified together with twenty-eight reference strains ofLactobacillus andLeuconostoc, using 49 unit characters. Data were examined using Jaccard coefficient, and unweighted pair group algorithm with arithmetic averages. Two major and eleven minor clusters were defined at the 76% SJ-similarity level: Cluster 1 included thirty isolates which could not be identified further, but had resemblance to the type strains ofL. jensenii, L. gasseri, L. crispatus, and to some extent toL. acidophilus. Cluster 12 including fifty-four intestinal isolates was identified asL. reuteri; and so was cluster 13 (five isolates). Isolates of the major clusters were found in all parts of the intestines. The genomic homogeneity of theL. reuteri isolates was scrutinized by endonuclease restriction analysis of the chromosomal DNA, and the isolates could be divided into six genomic strains.  相似文献
