Growth process of three different sized individuals (one of them was a flowering individual) ofErythronium japonicum was surveyed in a field. They were simulated by the mathematical models reported in a previous paper of this series (Yokoi,
1976). The simulations described well the actual growth of three individuals. Two aspects of reproduction of this plant, seed
production and perennial growth by bulb, were also simulated. The information obtained from the simulations indicated that
this plant has to spend nine or ten year-period in the non-flowering stage after germination. Distribution of individual size
in this plant population agreed well with the results obtained from the simulation. This investigation made clear the mechanism
of life of a spring ephemeral quantitatively, and showed a merit of the mathematical models reported in the previous paper. 相似文献

The molecular identity of the key executioners involved in controlling plant programmed cell death (PCD) has been elusive. In a recent paper published in Science, Hatsugai and coworkers reported that a well-characterized protease called VPE from the plant cell vacuole can cleave caspase-specific substrates and is required for cell death activation by tobacco mosaic virus. This work provides clear evidence for the importance of the vacuole in plant PCD and a novel regulatory function for this organelle as well as for VPE proteases. 相似文献

Isocitrate lyase catalyzes the reversible cleavage of isocitrate into glyoxylate and succinate. The kinetic mechanism of bacterial isocitrate lyase has been reported to be ordered uni-bi. Moreover, it has been proposed that isocitrate lyase in higher plants may be switched on and off by a succinylation/desuccinylation mechanism. Similarly to bacterial citrate lyase, in which an acetylation/deacetylation mechanism is operative, succinylation might also play a role in the catalytic mechanism of plant isocitrate lyase. We have investigated the kinetic mechanism of isocitrate lyase from Lupinus seeds. The results reported in this paper show that the system follows a preferentially ordered uni-bi pathway in which the succinate is released first. On the basis of our results and some other recently reported data, we conclude that it is unlikely that bacterial and plant isocitrate lyases have different catalytic mechanisms. 相似文献

This paper is the second part of a review which considers evidence for the involvement of auxin in root initiation. Part II examines the research being carried out with transformed plant tissues. Agrobacterium rhizogenes causes abundant root initiation at the site of inoculation. Ri plasmid T-DNA contains several genes which encode enzymes involved in the biosynthesis and metabolism of indole-3-acetic acid. Transfer of various fragments of the Ri plasmid has also been reported to confer increased sensitivity to auxin upon plant cells. Controlled expression of these genes in the plant genome potentially offer an insight for developmental plant physiologists into the role of plant growth substances in the process of root initiation. The importance of absolute levels of IAA in the stimulation of root initiation is discussed. 相似文献

Studies on the utilization of a plant SCE test in detecting potential mutagenic agents 总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
In this paper a modified procedure for sister-chromatid differentiation in plant cells is reported. Using this procedure some chemicals were tested for SCE induction in Vicia faba, Hordeum vulgare and Secale cereale. The chemicals tested were ethanol, chromium oxide, sodium saccharin, fluorouracil, ascorbic acid (vitamin c), omethoate and phenol. The experimental results showed that most of them induced SCE increases in mouse spleen cells, human lymphocytes and plant cells. The increase of SCEs per cell in plant cells is in agreement with that found in human lymphocytes or in mouse spleen cells. In our opinion, the utilization of SCE in plants is a simple and inexpensive technique for detecting potential mutagenic agents in the environment. 相似文献
