An investigation was made of individual variation in resting site fidelity in the limpet,Cellana toreuma, with special attention to the adaptiveness of its homing behaviour. Limpets resting in the higher part of the study site showed strong resting site fidelity while those in the middle part showed weaker fidelity and tended to shift their resting sites to higher parts. Limpets resting in the lower part where there were an abundant supply of food and high predation intensity, had the strongest resting site fidelity and always returned to fixed resting sites with mucous sheets. The resting site fidelity varied continuously among individuals. Four causes for shift of resting site were detected: fleeing from starfish,Coscinasterias acutispina, pushing contests for resting site, non-returning excursions following and without following other's trail. The frequency of shift of resting sites due to each of these causes varied among individuals. Estimation of energy budget during about half a month showed that the location of resting site and frequency of shift of the site considerably affected the growth of limpets through energy expenditure by respiration and stationary mucus secretion, and energy intake by foraging. These variations were proposed as being a result not of density dependent dispersal nor adaptation to a single factor such as desiccation, heavy wave impacts or predation, but being due to individual difference in a compromise between two conflicting factors, susceptibility to predation and accessibility to food resources.  相似文献

In northern Slovakia an adult male Lesser Spotted Eagle (Aquila pomarina) occupied the same nest site for 11 years running (1992–2002), where it was ringed and fitted with two satellite transmitters. In six of these years it successfully reared a young. In 1994 and 2000–2002 its behaviour during migration could be followed in detail by means of satellite telemetry. The eagle took the known route for this species to South Africa. In 2001, it spent 43% of the year at its breeding site, 33% in its winter quarters, the remaining 24% being spent on migration. In three cases the autumn migration took 40, 48 and 61 days respectively. In two cases the spring migration took 49 days. All five recorded autumn and spring migrations averaged a daily flight distance of 178 km. In spring the daily flight distance was in general slightly greater than in autumn. The longest was recorded from 30 March to 2 April 2001, between Uganda and the Red Sea, during which the bird covered a total of 1,650 km, averaging 412 km per day. In 2001, the spring migration from the wintering grounds was 2 weeks later than in 2002. The wintering grounds, where in 2 years the bird spent around 3.5 months, covering at least 1,666 and 2,269 km, respectively, comprised a large part of Zimbabwe together with the Kruger National Park in South Africa and neighbouring parts of Mozambique. The annual journeys flown, including movements around the wintering grounds, amounted in 2000-2001 to at least 20,396 km and in 2001-2002 to 19,041 km. Except during its crossing of the Sahara, the eagle must have taken food on nearly all its days of migration.  相似文献

Migratory connectivity plays an important role in conservation of long-distance migrant birds. Here, we study migratory links of dunlin (Calidris alpina), focusing on a stopover and wintering region (Portugal) where it is known that migration routes of dunlin from a broad geographic range (three subspecies) converge, and populations occur simultaneously or separated in time. We combine three methods (ringing recoveries, morphometrics and molecular genetics) to assess breeding origins and extent of temporal segregation of dunlin assemblages. Ringing recoveries show temporal separation of dunlin from different migration routes. Birds found in Portugal during August and September, migrating via Britain, reveal links to breeding areas in Iceland and Greenland. In October, a clear shift to more eastern migration routes occurs, with most Portuguese winter records from stopover sites along migration routes of populations from northern Scandinavia and Russia. Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) of Portuguese dunlin was compared with breeding populations. Spring and autumn migrants in Portugal corresponded to C. a. schinzii and C. a. arctica populations, while the Portuguese winter population clearly differs by including mtDNA haplotypes of C. a. alpina. For genetically sexed individuals, we found significant differences in morphology (bill and tarsus length) supporting the temporal separation of populations/subspecies revealed by recoveries and mtDNA. Our results give evidence for migratory connectivity of dunlin populations between geographic areas previously not considered connected. They confirm the existence of clear differences in breeding origin between birds in Portugal at different times of year. These results are important in the consideration of future long-term conservation plans.  相似文献

The site fidelity of ballan wrasse Labrus bergylta was studied using photo-identification and external tagging. Five male individuals were observed to defend the same small territory composed of a few rocks during several reproductive seasons spanning 2 to 15 years. These results provide one of the strongest indications of long-term very fine-scale site fidelity in marine fishes.  相似文献

Seven novel tetranucleotide microsatellite loci were identified from a partial genomic DNA library, enriched for GATA‐motif microsatellites, from the rough‐skinned newt (Taricha granulosa). All loci were polymorphic, and one displayed a high frequency null allele. A related species, T. rivularis, displays strong site fidelity and detectable population structure over small spatial scales, so we assessed genetic variation in two samples of T. granulosa separated by 16 km. Distributions of allele frequencies differ significantly between our two sites, but small values of FST and RhoST suggest that the populations are linked by a large amount of gene flow.  相似文献

横断山区作为青藏高原东南部主要的一个冰期避难所,第四纪冰期气候的变化对该地区的植物地理分布和居群遗传结构都产生了重要的影响。为了揭示该地区物种分布的分子系统地理学结构,选取在该地区广泛分布的一种高山灌木-高山绣线菊的叶绿体trnL-trnF序列进行研究。采集了15个居群182个个体进行测序,共发现7个单倍型。总的遗传多样性较高(HT=0.809),但居群内遗传多样性较低(HS=0.236)。分子变异分析(AMOVA)结果表明分布区内高山绣线菊的遗传变异主要存在于居群间(84.48%),且居群间的遗传分化很高(GST=0.708,FST=0.84476,NST=0.863),有着显著的谱系地理学结构(NST>GST,P<0.01)和较低的居群间平均基因流(Nm=0.09)。单倍型的系统进化树和进化分支网络分析得到了相似的拓扑结构,7种单倍型都按照地理分布聚为三支:横断山区西部、横断山区东部以及两者的交接地带。本研究推测该物种在横断山区存在多个冰期避难所,而没有表现出大规模的种群集体扩张和迁移的现象。青藏高原隆升、第四纪气候的反复波动以及横断山区特殊的地理环境使得原来连续的居群片段化,并发生范围扩张,从而塑造了高山绣线菊的现代生物地理分布格局。  相似文献

The rock shag (Phalacrocorax magellanicus) is an endemic species from southern Argentina and Chile. In Argentina, the population is distributed along the Patagonian coast in 143 small colonies (5–377 pairs). We studied colony and nest site fidelity of rock shags at Punta Loma, Patagonia, Argentina. We banded 37 adults from December 2001 to June 2003, during two breeding and two non-breeding seasons. Nest site fidelity was extremely high during consecutive breeding and also non-breeding seasons. The high percentage of banded birds residing in the colony in consecutive seasons suggests that rock shags are highly faithful to breeding sites and supports the idea of low post-breeding dispersion.  相似文献

We investigated roosting and hunting site fidelity of Daubenton's bats Myotis daubentonii (Kuhl, 1817) in the Forêt de Soignes, an old-stand forest dominated by 150–200-year-old beeches, during the summers of 2003 and 2004. Roosting behaviour and hunting activity over ponds of adult females and juveniles were monitored using radio-telemetry. Eighteen roosts were located, all in natural cavities. The bats occupied a limited number of trees located in a specific and small roosting area. This roost aggregation was not linked to the distribution of hollow trees. Furthermore, whereas all 11 ponds in the study area were exploited by Daubenton's bats, monitored individuals were limited to two ponds to which they showed high fidelity. These two ponds were not the closest to the roosting area. Overall, these results show that at least for the time we conducted our experiment, female and juvenile Daubenton's bats are highly faithful to specific roosting and hunting grounds.  相似文献

East Asian migratory waterfowl have greatly declined since the 1950s, especially the populations that winter in China. Conservation is severely hampered by the lack of primary information about migration patterns and stopover sites. This study utilizes satellite tracking techniques and advanced spatial analyses to investigate spring migration of the greater white‐fronted goose (Anser albifrons) and tundra bean goose (Anser serrirostris) wintering along the Yangtze River Floodplain. Based on 24 tracks obtained from 21 individuals during the spring of 2015 and 2016, we found that the Northeast China Plain is far‐out the most intensively used stopover site during migration, with geese staying for over 1 month. This region has also been intensely developed for agriculture, suggesting a causal link to the decline in East Asian waterfowl wintering in China. The protection of waterbodies used as roosting area, especially those surrounded by intensive foraging land, is critical for waterfowl survival. Over 90% of the core area used during spring migration is not protected. We suggest that future ground surveys should target these areas to confirm their relevance for migratory waterfowl at the population level, and core roosting area at critical spring‐staging sites should be integrated in the network of protected areas along the flyway. Moreover, the potential bird–human conflict in core stopover area needs to be further studied. Our study illustrates how satellite tracking combined with spatial analyses can provide crucial insights necessary to improve the conservation of declining Migratory species.  相似文献

Summary A 4.32 kb DNA fragment, on which the DNA replication terminus (terR) site of plasmid R 6K was located, was inserted into the unique EcoRI site of plasmid pUC9. To detect replication intermediate molecules with a replication fork halted at the terR site, a cell DNA extract was digested with EcoRI, electrophoresed through an agarose gel and stained with ethidium bromide. In addition to two major bands, one derived from vector DNA and the other from the ter insert fragment, two extra minor bands were detected. Examining the movement ecology of mesopredators is fundamental to developing an understanding of their biology, ecology and behaviour, as well as the communities and ecosystems they influence. The limited research on the residency and movements of benthic marine mesopredators has primarily used visual tags, which do not allow for the efficient and accurate monitoring of individual space use. In this study, the authors investigated the residency and movement patterns of Port Jackson sharks Heterodontus portusjacksoni (Meyer 1793) at a breeding aggregation site in Jervis Bay, south-eastern Australia, using passive acoustic telemetry to further our understanding of the movement ecology of these important mesopredators. Between 2012 and 2014, individuals were tagged with acoustic transmitters, and their residency and movements within the bay were monitored for up to 4 years. H. portusjacksoni showed strong preferences for particular reefs within and between breeding seasons. Males had significantly higher residency indices at their favoured sites relative to females, suggesting that males may be engaging in territorial behaviour. Conversely, female H. portusjacksoni exhibited higher roaming indices relative to males indicating that females may move between sites to assess males. Finally, H. portusjacksoni showed temporal variation in movements between reefs with individuals typically visiting more reefs at night relative to the day, dusk and dawn corresponding with their nocturnal habits.  相似文献

We describe the case of an unusually large capercaillie Tetrao urogallus clutch consisting of 12 eggs, of which four chicks hatched. Eight eggs died in an early stage of development. Genetic analyses revealed that the putative mother of the chicks was different from the one laying the unhatched eggs. We compare our results with reports from clutches elsewhere and conclude that nest site adoption is a likely explanation for joint clutches in grouse.This revised version was published online in December 2004. Summary During the last decade, the mating systems of many bird species have been analysed using molecular genetic methods. Most of these studies were performed on Passeriformes while Non-Passeriformes were rarely investigated. To fill this gap, we analysed blood samples of 24 Common Gull (Larus canus) families from two Polish colonies using DNA fingerprinting. A total of 55 of 56 chicks was unequivocally assigned to their genetic parents. Only two of these chicks (3.6%) from two different broods resulted from extra-pair copulations, the other 53 could be attributed to the putative parents; i.e., intraspecific brood parasitism was not observed. With respect to the number of breeding pairs investigated, the frequency of extra-pair paternity amounted to 8.3%. Thus, extra-pair paternity is relatively infrequent compared to other bird species. This result is surprising because the percentage of observed extra-pair copulations (i.e., mainly forced copulations in Common Gulls) in relation to the absolute number of copulations was 15.7% in the colonies studied. A possible reason for the disproportionate number of forced copulations and the lower percentage of resulting extra-pair young may include different mechanisms for paternity control by the pair males and/or by females.
Niedriger Anteil von Vaterschaften außerhalb des Paarbundes bei Sturmmöwen (Larus canus)
Zusammenfassung In den letzten 10 Jahren wurde das Paarungssystem vieler Vogelarten auch mit Hilfe molekulargenetischer Methoden näher untersucht. Dabei standen vor allem verschiedene Singvogelarten im Vordergrund, während Nicht-Singvogelarten kaum berücksichtigt wurden. Die vorliegende Untersuchung an Sturmmöwen (Larus canus) soll helfen diese Lücke zu schließen. Hierzu wurden die Blutproben von 24 Sturmmöwenfamilien zweier polnischer Kolonien mit Hilfe des genetischen Fingerabdruckverfahrens untersucht. Bei 55 der 56 untersuchten Küken konnten eindeutige Aussagen zur Elternschaft gemacht werden. Nur zwei Küken (3,6%) aus zwei unterschiedlichen Bruten gingen auf Kopulationen außerhalb des Paarbundes zurück, die restlichen 53 stammten von den sozialen Eltern ab, d. h. Fälle von innerartlichem Brutparasitismus konnten nicht nachgewiesen werden. In bezug auf den prozentualen Anteil an Brutpaaren, deren Bruten Jungtiere enthielten, die das Resultat von Kopulationen außerhalb des Paarbundes waren, ergab sich ein Wert von 8,3%. Dieser Wert ist im Vergleich mit anderen Vogelarten sehr niedrig. Der geringe Anteil an Vaterschaften außerhalb des Paarbundes verwundert, da der Anteil von Kopulationen außerhalb des Paarbundes, die von den Männchen bei Sturmmöwen meist gewaltsam erzwungen werden, im Vergleich zur Gesamtzahl beobachteter Kopulationen in den untersuchten Kolonien 15,7% betrug und damit deutlich höher lag, als dies auf der Basis der Ergebnisse der DNA-Fingerprinting Untersuchungen zu erwarten gewesen wäre. Mögliche Gründe für die Diskrepanz zwischen dem Anteil der erzwungenen Kopulationen außerhalb des Paarbundes und dem Anteil der resultierenden Küken sind verschiedene Mechanismen der Vaterschaftskontrolle durch die Paarmännchen und/oder durch die Weibchen.

珊瑚菜居群遗传多样性的SRAP分析   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
利用SRAP对伞形科单种属珊瑚菜7个野生居群和1个栽培居群进行了研究。结果表明:共筛选出8个引物组合,在珊瑚菜8个居群中共扩增出168条条带,其中多态性条带为118条,多态性比率为70.23%;平均每对引物扩增的多态性条带为14.75。各居群之间珊瑚菜遗传相似性系数范围为0.8306~0.9836,遗传距离范围为0.0165~0.1856。聚类分析表明,以相似性系数大于0.8并结合地理分布来看,所研究的野生珊瑚菜居群可以大体分为3类,辽宁大连的野生居群为一类,山东威海—山东青岛的居群为一类,而山东日照—广州深圳之间的为一类。  相似文献

A population decline of the western Atlantic red knot (Calidris canutus rufa) has been linked to food limitation during the spring migratory stopover in Delaware Bay, USA. The stopover ecology at potential alternative sites has received little attention. We studied factors affecting red knot habitat selection and flock size at a coastal stopover site in Virginia in 2006–2007. The most common potential prey items were coquina clams (Donax variabilis) and crustaceans. Red knot foraging sites had more clams and crustaceans than unused sites in 2006. Prey abundance increased during the 2007 stopover period and remained high after the red knot peak. Red knot flock size in 2007 increased with mean clam shell length, and probability of flock presence decreased with increasing distance from night use locations. Our results suggest that red knots preferred coquina clams and that these clams were not depleted during the stopover period in 2007. Thus prey abundance did not appear to be a population-limiting factor at this coastal stopover site in Virginia in that year. Protection of coastal sites outside of Delaware Bay, many of which have been altered by human development, would likely benefit red knot population recovery, as they can apparently provide abundant food resources during at least some years.  相似文献

以往关于动物警戒行为的研究多以经典随机独立模型为基础,然而,近期一些理论和实证研究则向该模型发出了挑战。根据警戒行为同步性程度的不同,集体警戒可能存在基于模仿的同步警戒和避免重复的协调警戒两种模式。研究了中国雅鲁藏布江自然保护区越冬黑颈鹤家庭群的警戒行为,通过独立样本t检验验证由于年龄和是否携幼所导致的个体警戒水平的差异,通过单因素方差分析比较不同类型家庭群的集体警戒水平,通过配对t检验比较集体警戒的实际观测值和独立假设下的预期值从而确定越冬黑颈鹤家庭群的警戒同步性。结果表明家庭群中的幼年黑颈鹤警戒行为时间显著低于成年黑颈鹤,但幼鹤的存在对成鹤的警戒水平没有显著影响。不同类型黑颈鹤家庭群的集体警戒水平没有差异,但并未如预期表现为同步警戒。警戒行为模式是动物在特定环境中的适应性表现,越冬黑颈鹤生境中不存在落后目标策略的捕食者和高强度的捕食风险,因而可能不足以诱发以降低捕食风险为主要功能的高强度的警戒行为同步性;同时,在资源匮乏的冬季对食物获取的优先性可能也削弱了对同步警戒的需求。  相似文献

Summary Microinjection of rhodamine-phalloidin into living cells of isolatedTradescantia leaf epidermis and visualisation by confocal microscopy has extended previous results on the distribution of actin in mitotic cells of higher plants and revealed new aspects of actin arrays in stomatal cells and their initials. Divisions in the stomatal guard mother cells and unspecialised epidermal cells are symmetrical. Asymmetrical divisions occur in guard mother precursor cells and subsidiary mother cells. Each asymmetrical division is preceded by migration of the nucleus and the subsequent accumulation of thick bundles of anticlinally oriented actin filaments localised to the area of the anticlinal wall closest to the polarised nucleus. During prophase, in all cell types, a subset of cortical actin filaments coaligns to form a band, which, like the preprophase band of microtubules, accurately delineates the site of insertion of the future cell wall. Following the breakdown of the nuclear envelope, F-actin in these bands disassembles but persists elsewhere in the cell cortex. Thus, cortical F-actin marks the division site throughout mitosis, firstly as an appropriately positioned band and then by its localised depletion from the same region of the cell cortex. This sequence has been detected in all classes of division inTradescantia leaf epidermis, irrespective of whether the division is asymmetrical or symmetrical, or whether the cell is vacuolate or densely cytoplasmic. Guanine Exchange Factor (GEF) activity for Ras proteins has been associated with a conserved domain in Cdc25p, Sdc25p in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and several other proteins recently found in other eukaryotes. We have assessed the structure-function relationships between three different members of this family in S. cerevisiae, Cdc25p, Sdc25p and Bud5p. Cdc25p controls the Ras pathway, whereas Bud5p controls bud site localization. We demonstrate that the GEF domain of Sdc25p is closely related to that of Cdc25p. We first constructed a thermosensitive allele of SDC25 by specifically altering amino acid positions known to be changed in the cdc25-1 mutation. Secondly, we constructed three chimeric genes from CDC25 and SDC25, the products of which are as active in the Ras pathway as are the wild-type proteins. In contrast, similar chimeras made between CDC25 and BUD5 lead to proteins that are inactive both in the Ras and budding control pathways. This difference in the ability of chimeric proteins to retain activity allows us to define two subclasses of structurally different GEFs: Cdc25p and Sdc25p are Ras-specific GEFs, and Bud5p is a putative GEF for the Rsr1/Bud1 Rap-like protein.  相似文献

Background  

The genus Morus, known as mulberry, is a dioecious and cross-pollinating plant that is the sole food for the domesticated silkworm, Bombyx mori. Traditional methods using morphological traits for classification are largely unsuccessful in establishing the diversity and relationships among different mulberry species because of environmental influence on traits of interest. As a more robust alternative, PCR based marker assays including RAPD and ISSR were employed to study the genetic diversity and interrelationships among twelve domesticated and three wild mulberry species.  相似文献
