The Eating Inventory (EI) is commonly used to measure a range of eating behaviors. It includes three subscales: Cognitive Restraint, Hunger, and Disinhibition. In this study, we decomposed the variance of the three subscales, and evaluated the genetic, common environment and specific environmental effects on each in a sample of female-female twin pairs. Multivariate models were also used to examine whether the EI represented three individual factors, or whether there was extensive covariance among subscales. Heritabilities were estimated at 45% (CI of 32-57%) for Disinhibition, 8% (CI of 0-38%) for Hunger, and 0% (CI of 0-30%) for Restraint. Common environmental influences were estimated at 0% (CI of 0-23%) for Disinhibition, 16% (CI of 0-34%) for Hunger, and 31% (4-42%) for Restraint. Specific environmental influences accounted for the rest of the variance of the subscales. However, multivariate modeling indicated that Disinhibition and Hunger covaried significantly, indicating that these two subscales are influenced by the same set of genetic factors. Furthermore, Restraint appeared to be empirically distinct from Hunger or Disinhibition.  相似文献

An all-age die-off of Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep (Ovis c. canadensis Shaw) occurred from late October 1980 through March 1981 in Waterton Canyon, Colorado, with a loss of 75 to 85% of the sheep. The cause of death was a subacute to chronic bronchopneumonia and the primary etiologic agents isolated from the respiratory system were a Pasteurella sp., P. multocida, Corynebacterium pyogenes, and Protostrongylus stilesi Dikmans, 1931. The underlying predisposing factors that initiated this die-off were believed to be related to multiple chronic environmental stressors associated with the building of a dam which included human contact, vehicular traffic, atmospheric dust, noise and harassment. The die-off was succeeded by a 100% lamb mortality the following summer and a 67% lamb mortality the next two summers. The pneumonia found in these lambs was similar to that found in adult sheep during the previous die-off, except that mature lungworms were absent.  相似文献

Unlike wild-type bacteriorhodopsin (BR), the BR triple mutant D96G/F171C/F219L has been shown to undergo only minor structural rearrangements during its photocycle. Nonetheless, the mutant is capable of transporting protons at a rate of 125(+/-40) H+/BR per minute under light-saturating conditions. Light adaptation of the triple mutant's retinal proceeds in a pH-dependent manner up to a maximum of 63% all-trans. These two findings imply that the transport activity of the triple mutant comprises 66% of the wild-type activity. Time-resolved spectroscopy reveals that the identity and sequence of intermediates in the photocycle of the triple mutant in the all-trans configuration correspond to that of wild-type BR. The only differences relate to a slower rise and decay of the M and O intermediates, and a significant spectral contribution from a 13-cis component. No indication for accumulation of the N intermediate is found under a variety of conditions that normally favor the formation of this species in wild-type BR. The Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrum of the M intermediate in the triple mutant resembles that of wild type. Minor changes in the amide I region during the photocycle suggest that only small movements of the protein backbone occur. Electron microscopy reveals large differences in conformation between the unilluminated state of the mutant protein and wild-type but no light-induced changes in time-resolved measurements. Evidently, proton transport by the triple mutant does not require the major conformational rearrangements that occur on the same time-scale with wild-type. Thus, we conclude that large conformational changes observed in the photocycle of the wild-type and many BR mutants are not a prerequisite for the change in accessibility of the Schiff base nitrogen atom that must occur during vectorial catalysis to allow proton transport.  相似文献

The distribution of urocortin (UCN)-like material is investigated in the bivalve mollusc Mytilus galloprovincialis. Immunocytochemical data demonstrate that UCN-like molecules are present in ganglionic neurons, microglial cells and immunocytes. Moreover, a co-localization of UCN- and corticotrophin-releasing hormone (CRH)-like molecules is found in microglial cells and in immunocytes, but not in neurons. Following high salinity-stress experiments, immunoreactivity for UCN and CRH increased in ganglionic neurons and immunocytes. Our findings extend the number of molecules potentially used by molluscan immunocytes to confront stress situations and strengthen the idea of functional conservation of stress-related molecules during evolution.  相似文献

The relationships of guard cell ABA content to eight stress-related physiological parameters were determined on intact Vicia faba L. plants that were grown hydroponically with split-root systems. Continuous stress was imposed by the addition of PEG to part of the root system. The water potentials of roots sampled after the addition of PEG were 0.25 MPa lower than the water potentials of other roots of the same plant, which were similar to the roots of untreated plants. The leaflet water potentials of plants sampled within 2 h of stress imposition were similar to those of control plants. However, leaf conductance was lower in plants sampled after only 20 min of stress imposition, and the root- and leaflet apoplastic ABA concentrations of these plants were higher than those of untreated plants. As the essence of this report, there was a linear relationship between guard cell ABA content and leaf conductance. Leaflet apoplastic ABA concentrations <150 nM were also linearly related to leaf conductance, but higher leaflet apoplastic ABA concentration did not cause equally large further declines in leaf conductance. It is suggested that evaporation from guard cell walls caused ABA to accumulate in the guard cell apoplast and this pool was saturated at high leaflet apoplastic ABA concentrations.  相似文献

We studied the effects of the indirect pathway of allograft recognition using T cells from TCR transgenic Marilyn mice, which recognize the male Ag H-Y in an I-A(b)-restricted fashion. The T cells are not alloreactive to the H-2(k) haplotype, because they are not activated when adoptively transferred into recombinase-activating gene-2(-/-) common gamma-chain(-/-) double-mutant H-2(k) male or female mice. However, skin from H-2(k) males, but not from H-2(k) females, is acutely rejected by recombinase-activating gene-2(-/-) transgenic female recipients. In vitro, Marylin spleen cells primed by H-2(k) skin grafting proliferated and secreted both IL-4 and IFN-gamma in response to H-2(k) male stimulators. However, the removal of H-2(b) APC from the responding population abolished the response. Taken together, these results show that the indirect recognition that triggers rejection in this model is due to the recognition of H-Y Ag shed from H-2(k) male allograft and presented by the recipient's own I-A(b) APC to transgenic T cells. This study demonstrates unequivocally the capacity of naive CD4(+) T cells to promote the rejection of allografts through mechanisms that involve indirect destruction of grafted tissues.  相似文献

It has been suggested that maternal undernutrition results in adjustment of the sex ratio at birth, favouring females. We tested this hypothesis using births during the Dutch Hunger Winter of 1944-1945, an acute severe famine of seven months' duration. There was no evidence of an excess of female births among deliveries of human infants exposed to famine in any period in gestation. Indeed, among deliveries to women maximally exposed to famine prior to conception, there was an excess (odds ratio = 1.31, 95% CI 1.09-1.58; p = 0.004) of male offspring. Our data do not provide any support for acute and severe maternal undernutrition as a trigger for an increase in female conceptions or in male foetal deaths in human populations.  相似文献

热休克蛋白60(HSP60)是一种维持线粒体蛋白正常结构和功能的分子伴侣。该文克隆了梅氏新贝尼登虫HSP60基因cDNA序列(NmHSP60),并采用荧光定量RT-PCR和Western blot研究其在不同温度和盐度下的表达变化。以25℃为参照,18℃时,NmHSP60在虫卵和成虫中均表达下调;而32℃时,在成虫中表达上调。以盐度24为参照,盐度18时,NmHSP60在成虫中表达下调;盐度30时,在虫卵中表达上调。该结果揭示NmHSP60可能在梅氏新贝尼登虫应对环境应激中起重要作用。  相似文献
