In a greenhouse study, with and without rice plants, of five flooded Philippine rice soils whose organic C (OC) content varied from 0.5 to 3.6%, incorporation ofSesbania rostrata, Azolla microphylla and rice straw affected the kinetics of soil solution NH 4 + −N, K+, Fe2+, Mn2+, Zn2+, and P. Sesbania and Azolla increased NH 4 + −N concentration above the control treatment, whereas rice straw depressed it. In all soils Azolla released less NH 4 + −N than Sesbania. The apparent net N release depended on the soil and ranged from 44–81% for Sesbania and 27–52% for Azolla. These effects persisted throughout the growth of IR36. Soil solution and exchangeable NH 4 + −N increased initially but levelled off between 30 to 80 days and between 20 to 40 days after flooding (DF), respectively. With rice, soil solution NH 4 + −N concentration, reached a peak at 15–40 DF and declined to very low levels (<4mg L−1). In the 3 soils of low OC content nitrogen derived from green manure ranged from 34–53% and the apparent revovery of added green manure N varied from 29–67%. Almost all N released from both Azolla and Sesbania were recovered in the rice plant in all soils except Concepcion with only 77%. The concentration of K+, Fe2+, Mn2+ and P in the soil solution were higher with rice straw than Sesbania and Azolla in all soils except Hanggan which showed no change in Fe2+ and Mn2+ but increased K+ and P. In general, rice straw, Sesbania and Azolla decreased Zn2+ concentration in all soils.  相似文献

To predict P sorption and leaching behavior in calcareous soils, we examined the adsorption and movement of applied P in columns of two calcareous soils. Phosphorus and various other ions were monitored in the leachate of the soil column by passing a 100 mg P l?1 solution through the soil column. Concentrations of P, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, HCO? 3, Cl?, EC and pH were determined in the leachates. Movement of K+ and P ions was retarded due to K+ ion-exchange and P adsorption and precipitation, respectively. Phosphorus leaching was affected by supersaturation with respect to P-Ca minerals, but undersaturated with respect to Mg-P minerals. Phosphorus retention based on batch and miscible displacement experiments revealed profound discrepancies that can be attributed to the short residence time of P in the miscible displacement. Breakthrough curves of P and K+ were analyzed by a CXTFIT program. The equilibrium model provides good results to the transport process of P and K+. Results indicated that the mobility of P in these calcareous soils reflects that a high downward movement of water-soluble P in soils may occur and much attention should be paid to leaching of P and potential contamination of P to surface and ground waters.  相似文献

Knowledge of the rate of release of phosphorus (P) from soils resulting from poor water quality application is essential for long-term planning of crop production while minimizing the impact on groundwater quality. In this study, we examined the effect of sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) and Ca:Mg ratio of water on P release of some calcareous soils from western Iran. Nine different solutions at a total electrolyte concentration of 100 mmolc l?1 and three levels of SAR (5, 15, 45) each with Ca:Mg ratios of 1:3, 1:1, or 3:1, prepared using solutions of NaCl, CaCl2, and MgCl2, were used to extract P from the soils. The geochemical Visual MINTEQ was used to calculate saturation indices and P species at the initial and end of P release. Significantly different quantities of P were extracted by the solutions. The maximum (average of five soils) (233.6 mg kg?1) and the minimum (162.9 mg kg?1) P were extracted by an SAR 45 solution with a Ca:Mg ratio of 1:3 and SAR 15 solution with Ca:Mg ratio of 3:1, respectively. Elovich model adequately described P release. The release rate for SAR 15 with Ca:Mg of 3:1 and SAR 45 with Ca:Mg 1:3 ranges from 16.3 to 31.3 mg kg?1 h?1 and from 20.0 to 32.8 mg kg?1 h?1, respectively. In the initial stage of P release the solution samples in most soils were saturated with respect to hydroxyapatite, octacalcium phosphate, ß-tricalcium phosphate, and undersaturated with respect to dicalcium phosphate dihydrate, dicalcium phosphate, and mangnesium phosphates. At the end of P release, all solutions were saturated with respect to hydroxyapatite and under saturated with respect to other phosphate minerals. The results imply that P release from soils could be increased during use of saline and sodic irrigation water containing high Mg concentration and that P fertilization management may need modification.  相似文献

Movements of ions are considered to be governed by the electroneutrality rule. Therefore, a cation moving across the cell membrane into the cell either passively or actively should move together with its counterion, an anion, in equal amounts of charge or in exchange for another cation inside the cell. This means that the net influx of the cation in question should be affected by the permeability of its counterion and/or another cation inside the cell. To examine osmotic and ionic regulation in Chara cells, cell fragments of Chara having a lower osmotic pressure than normal (L-cell fragments) were prepared. The L-cell fragments were individually put into various dilute electrolyte solutions and their osmotic potentials were measured with a turgor balance. Concentrations of K+, Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cl?, NO?3. and SO2?4. in the external electrolyte solutions in which L-cells had been incubated were also analysed by ion chromatography. The results showed that in 0.5 mM KCL + 0.1 mM CaCl2 solution, Chara L-cell fragments absorbed K+ and Cl? to maintain electroneutrality and then regained their osmotic potential very rapidly. When the anion was Cl, the cation absorbed at the highest rate was K+ On the other hand, when the cation was K, the anion absorbed at the highest rate was Cl, Other ions Ca2+, SO2?4 and NO?3 showed much less permeability than K+ and Cl ?for the Chara plasma membrane. The conclusion from these findings was that due to the constraint of electroneutral transport, the uptake rate of a salt into L-cells is limited by the permeability of the least permeable ion.  相似文献

Net rates of NO3? and K+ uptake were compared for oilseed rape (Brassica napus L. cv. Jet neuf), perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L. cv. S23), Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam. cv. Augusta) and wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv. Fen-man) in flowing solution culture during a 4-day sequence of low-low-high-high natural irradiance. Concentrations of NO3? (10 μM) and K+ (2.5 μM) in solutions were maintained automatically and hourly variation in net uptake of these ions was measured. During the 2 days of low irradiance (<1 MJ m?2 day?1) the uptake rates of both ions by all species were low at <1 mmol NO3?, m?2 h?1 and <0.4 mmol K+ m?2 h?1. Uptake increased in each species during the first day of high irradiance (7.90 MJ m?2 day?1) to >4 mmol NO3? m?2 h?1 and >1.4 mmol K+ m?1 h?1. These higher rates were maintained throughout the following night. The lag-time between maximum irradiance and the onset of the highest acceleration in uptake was greater for NO3? (5–8 h) than for K+ (≤1 h) in rape, wheat and Italian ryegrass. Uptake of NO3?, by perennial ryegrass showed an almost constant acceleration for 18 h following maximum irradiance. In all species the measured maximum inflows (uptake rate per unit root length) of both ions were greater than theoretical maximum potential inflows to a non-competing infinite-sink root in soil, by factors of 7 and 36, respectively, for NO3? and K+, averaged over all species.  相似文献

We investigated the effects of removing near-stream Rhododendron and of the natural blowdown of canopy trees on nutrient export to streams in the southern Appalachians. Transects were instrumented on adjacent hillslopes in a first-order watershed at the Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory (35°03′N, 83°25′W). Dissolved organic carbon (DOC), K+, Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+, NO3 -N, NH4 +-N, PO4 3−-P, and SO4 2− were measured for 2 years prior to disturbance. In August 1995, riparian Rhododendron on one hillslope was cut, removing 30% of total woody biomass. In October 1995, Hurricane Opal uprooted nine canopy trees on the other hillslope, downing 81% of the total woody biomass. Over the 3 years following the disturbance, soilwater concentrations of NO3 -N tripled on the cut hillslope. There were also small changes in soilwater DOC, SO4 2−, Ca2+, and Mg2+. However, no significant changes occurred in groundwater nutrient concentrations following Rhododendron removal. In contrast, soilwater NO3 -N on the storm-affected hillslope showed persistent 500-fold increases, groundwater NO3 -N increased four fold, and streamwater NO3 -N doubled. Significant changes also occurred in soilwater pH, DOC, SO4 2−, Ca2+, and Mg2+. There were no significant changes in microbial immobilization of soil nutrients or water outflow on the storm-affected hillslope. Our results suggest that Rhododendron thickets play a relatively minor role in controlling nutrient export to headwater streams. They further suggest that nutrient uptake by canopy trees is a key control on NO3 -N export in upland riparian zones, and that disruption of the root–soil connection in canopy trees via uprooting promotes significant nutrient loss to streams. Tomato growth was examined in solution culture under constant pH and low levels of NH4+ or NO3?. There were five nitrogen treatments: 20 mmoles m?3 NH4+, 50 mmoles m?3 NO3?, 100 mmoles m?3 NH4+ 200 mmoles m?3 NO3?, and 20 mmoles m?3 NH4++ 50 mmoles m?3 NO3?. The lower concentrations (20 mmoles m?3 NH4+ and 50 mmoles m?3 NO3?) were near the apparent Km for net NH4+ and NO3? uptake; the higher concentrations (100 mmoles m?3 NH4+ and 200 mmoles m?3 NO3?) were near levels at which the net uptake of NH4+ or NO3? saturate. Although organic nitrogen contents for the higher NO3? and the NH4++ NO3? treatments were 22.2–30.3% greater than those for the lower NO3? treatment, relative growth rates were initially only 10–15% faster. After 24 d, relative growth rates were similar among those treatments. These results indicate that growth may be only slightly nitrogen limited when NH4+ or NO3? concentrations are held constant over the root surface at near the apparent Km concentration. Relative growth rates for the two NH4+ treatments were much higher than have been previously reported for tomatoes growing with NH4+ as the sole nitrogen source. Initial growth rates under NH4+ nutrition did not differ significantly (P≥ 0.05) from those under NO3? or under combined NH4++ NO3?. Growth rates slowed after 10–15 d for the NH4+ treatments, whereas they remained more constant for the NO3? and mixed NH4++ NO3? treatments over the entire observation period of 24–33 d. The decline in growth rate under NH4+ nutrition may have resulted from a reduction in Ca2+, K+, and/or Mg2+ absorption.  相似文献

The effects of six years treatment with elevated [CO2] (350, 525, and 700 μl l-1) and nitrogen (N) (0, 10, and 20 g N m-2 yr-1) on soils, soil solution, and CO2 efflux in an open-top chamber study with ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa Laws.) are described. The clearest [CO2] effect was in year 6, when a pattern of lower soil N concentration and higher C/N ratio with elevated [CO2] emerged. Statistically significant effects of elevated [CO2] on soil total C, extractable P, exchangeable Mg2+, exchangeable Ca2+, base saturation, and soil solution HCO3 - and NO3 - were also found in various treatment combinations and at various times; however, these effects were inconsistent among treatments and years, and in many cases (P, Mg2+, Ca2+, base saturation) reflected pre-treatment differences. The use of homogenized buried soil bags did not improve the power to detect changes in soil C and N or help resolve the inconsistencies in soil C patterns. Nitrogen fertilization had the expected negative effects on exchangeable Ca2+, K+, and Mg2+ in year 6, presumably because of increased NO3 - leaching, but had no consistent effect on soil C, N, or extractable P. The effects of nitrogen form and phosphorus source on the growth, nutrient uptake and rhizosphere soil property of tea (Camellia sinensis L.) were investigated in a pot experiment. The experiment was performed with a compartmental cropping device, which enables the collection of rhizosphere soil at defined distances from the root of tea plant. Nitrogen was supplied as nitrate or ammonium in combination with soluble phosphorus as Ca(H2PO4)2 or insoluble P as rock phosphate. The leaf dry matter production of tea was significantly greater in the treatments with NH4 + than NO3 -, whereas dry matter production of root and stem was not significantly affected. Addition of phosphorus as either source did not influence the dry matter production. The concentrations of K in root, Mg and Ca in both the shoot and root supplied with NO3 - were significantly higher than in NH4 + and influence of P sources was minor. On the contrary, Al and Mn concentrations were significantly larger in NH4 --fed plants which could be attributed to remarkably increased availability of Al and Mn caused by acidification of the rhizosphere soil (the first 1-mm soil section from the root surface) with NH4–N nutrition. The concentration of N in shoot was also significantly higher in NH4- than in NO3-fed plants, indicating higher use efficiency of NH4–N. Whatever the phosphate source, rhizosphere pH declined in ammonium compared to in nitrate treatment. The pH decrease was much larger when no P or soluble P were applied and reached 0.85–1.30 units which extended to 3–5 mm away from the root surface. Exchangeable acidity, content of exchangeable Al and Mn were also considerably higher in the rhizosphere soils of NH4 + fed tea plants. Significant amounts of P dissolved from rock phosphate accumulated in rhizosphere of NH4 +, not NO3 -, suggesting that the dissolution of rock phosphate was induced by the proton excreted by tea root fed with ammonium. With soluble P addition, shoot and root P concentrations were greater in NH4 + than in NO3 - treatment and it appeared that this difference could not be sufficiently explained by the available P content in soil which was only slightly higher in NH4 + treatment. With rock phosphate addition, the shoot and root P concentrations were hardly affected by nitrogen form, although the available P content was much higher and accumulated in the rhizosphere soil supplied with ammonium. The reason for this was discussed with regard to the inter-relationship of Al with P uptake. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The effect of application of different potassium rates on some parameters of nitrate metabolism and yield in cucumber plants (Cucumis sativus) was studied. All plants were grown under controlled conditions in an experimental greenhouse. The treatments consisted of applications of K+ at three rates in the form of K2SO4 (Kl: 0.075 mg ml?1, K2: 0.15 mg ml?1, and K3: 0.30 mg ml?1). The results showed a positive effect of higher K+ fertilisation (0.30 mg ml?1) on uptake, translocation and reduction of NO3? in leaves compared with the lowest K+ rate. In addition, the higher K+ rates strengthened the translocation of organic nitrogenous compounds (amino acids) towards the fruit, thereby perhaps also enhancing the maximal commercial yield. In conclusion, for improved cucumber cultivation under greenhouse conditions, 0.15 mg ml?1 of K+ gave maximal yield, while the application of 0.30 mg ml?1 increased the metabolism and efficient utilisation of NO3?.  相似文献

Converting deciduous forests to coniferous plantations and vice versa causes environmental changes, but till now insight into the overall effect is lacking. This review, based on 38 case studies, aims to find out how coniferous and deciduous forests differ in terms of throughfall (+stemflow) deposition and seepage flux to groundwater. From the comparison of coniferous and deciduous stands at comparable sites, it can be inferred that deciduous forests receive less N and S via throughfall (+stemflow) deposition on the forest floor. In regions with relatively low open field deposition of atmospheric N (<10 kg N ha−1 year−1), lower NH4+ mean throughfall (+stemflow) deposition was, however, reported under conifers compared to deciduous forest, while in regions with high atmospheric N pollution (>10 kg N ha−1 year−1), the opposite could be concluded. The higher the open field deposition of NH4+, the bigger the difference between the coniferous and deciduous throughfall (+stemflow) deposition. Furthermore, it can be concluded that canopy exchange of K+, Ca2+ and Mg2+ is on average higher in deciduous stands. The significantly higher stand deposition flux of N and S in coniferous forests is reflected in a higher soil seepage flux of NO3, SO42−, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+ and Al(III). Considering a subset of papers for which all necessary data were available, a close relationship between throughfall (+stemflow) deposition and seepage was found for N, irrespective of the forest type, while this was not the case for S. This review shows that the higher input flux of N and S in coniferous forests clearly involves a higher seepage of NO3 and SO42− and accompanying cations K+, Ca2+, Mg2+ and Al(III) into the groundwater, making this forest type more vulnerable to acidification and eutrophication compared to the deciduous forest type.  相似文献

Single-chloride-channel currents were recorded from primary cultured Drosophila neurons by means of the gigaohm-seal patch-clamp technique. Small inward-going current channels were observed in excised inside-out patches with the external face of the membrane exposed to bathing solutions devoid of K+, Na+, and Ca2+. The inward current was affected by changing the anions but not the cations bathing the cytoplasmic face of the patch. Complete replacement of CI? by glutamate eliminated the current. The current was maintained with intracellular solutions containing NO3? in place of CI?. The single-channel conductance was estimated to be 7 ps with CI?, and 11 ps with NO3? at 10°C. Possible functions of this anion-selective channel have been discussed.  相似文献

Experiments employing lysimeters and a comparison of soil leachates at >‐0.03 MPa and soil solutions extracted at ‐2.5 MPa showed the importance of nitrification in the weathering of minerals of brown acid forest soils (dys‐trochrept) which are formed over large areas in temperate climates.

Mineralization of litter from plants characteristic of such soils (in particular Festuca silvatica and Abies pectinata) produces large amounts of nitric acid. This bacterial nitrification is responsible for the solubilization of Ca2+, Mg2+, and K+ and must be involved in the slow weathering of minerals by acidolysis and in the biogeochemical cycling of Ca2+, Mg2+, and K+ in these soils. Soil solutions extracted at ‐2.5 MPa reflect much more the microbial activity than the leachates from soil and provide interesting information.  相似文献

Summary The effects of soil acidification (pH values from 6.5 to 3.8), and subsequent leaching, on levels of extractable nutrients in a soil were studied in a laboratory experiment. Below pH 5.5, acidification resulted in large increases in the amounts of exchangeable Al in the soil. Simultaneously, exchangeable cations were displayed from exchange sites and Ca, Mg, K and Na in soil solution increased markedly. With increasing soil acidification, increasing amounts of cations were leached; the magnitude of leaching loss was in the same order as the cations were present in the soil: Ca2+>Mg2+>K+>Na+. Soil acidification appeared to inhibit nitrification since in the unleached soils, levels of NO 3 clearly declined below pH 5.5 and at the same time levels of NH 4 + increased greatly. Significant amounts of NH 4 + and larger amounts of NO 3 , were removed from the soil during leaching. Concentrations of NaHCO3-extractable phosphate remained unchanged between pH 4.3 and 6.0 but were raised at higher and lower pH values. No leaching losses of phosphate were detected. For the unleached soils, levels of EDTA-extractable Mn and Zn increased as the soil was acidified whilst levels of extractable Fe were first decreased and then increased greatly and those for Cu were decreased slightly between pH 6.5 and 6.0 and then unaffected by further acidification. Significant leaching losses of Mn and Zn were observed at pH values below 5.5 but losses of Fe were very small and those of Cu were not detectable.  相似文献

In the present study, we investigated whether growth and main nutrient ion concentrations of cabbage (Brassica campestris L.) could be increased when plants were subjected to different NH4^+/NO3- ratios. Cabbage seedlings were grown in a greenhouse in nutrient solutions with five NH4^+/NO3- ratios (1:0; 0.75:0.25; 0.5:0.5; 0.25:0.75; and 0:1). The results showed that cabbage growth was reduced by 87% when the proportion of NH4^+-N in the nutrient solution was more than 75% compared with a ratio NH4^+/NO3- of 0.5:0.5 35 d after transplanting, suggesting a possible toxicity due to the accumulation of a large amount of free ammonia in the leaves. When the NH4+/NO3- ratio was 0.5:0.5, fresh seedling weight, root length, and H2PO4- (P), K^+, Ca^2+, and Mg^2+ concentrations were all higher than those in plants grown under other NH4^+/NO3- ratios. The nitrate concentration in the leaves was the lowest in plants grown at 0.5: 0.5 NH4^+/NO3-. The present results indicate that an appropriate NH4^+/NO3- ratio improves the absorption of other nutrients and maintains a suitable proportion of N assimilation and storage that should benefit plant growth and the quality of cabbage as a vegetable.  相似文献

Production and accumulation of nitrous oxide (N2O), a major greenhouse gas, in shallow groundwater might contribute to indirect N2O emissions to the atmosphere (e.g., when groundwater flows into a stream or a river). The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has attributed an emission factor (EF5g) for N2O, associated with nitrate leaching in groundwater and drainage ditches—0.0025 (corresponding to 0.25% of N leached which is emitted as N2O)—although this is the subject of considerable uncertainty. We investigated and quantified the transport and fate of nitrate (NO3 ?) and dissolved nitrous oxide from crop fields to groundwater and surface water over a 2-year period (monitoring from April 2008 to April 2010) in a transect from a plateau to the river with three piezometers. In groundwater, nitrate concentrations ranged from 1.0 to 22.7 mg NO3 ?–N l?1 (from 2.8 to 37.5 mg NO3 ?–N l?1 in the river) and dissolved N2O from 0.2 to 101.0 μg N2O–N l?1 (and from 0.2 to 2.9 μg N2O–N l?1 in the river). From these measurements, we estimated an emission factor of EF5g = 0.0026 (similar to the value currently used by the IPCC) and an annual indirect N2O flux from groundwater of 0.035 kg N2O–N ha?1 year?1, i.e., 1.8% of the previously measured direct N2O flux from agricultural soils.  相似文献

The effect of natural and artificial reduction on P extractability from soils used for rice production and the relation of these values to response to fertilizer P were investigated. Soil solution P increased from a mean of 3.8 mg P·kg?1 soil for naturally oxidized slurries of 28 soils to 19.8mg P·kg?1 when the soils were naturally reduced. The mean values were further increased to 40.8 and 45.3 mg·kg?1 when the soils were reduced with 0.1M Na2S2O4 and 0.2M Na2S2O4, respectively. These P-values compare with 18.2 mg kg?1 when the dry soils were extracted with Bray No. 1 extractant. When the yields of rice were correlated with solution and extracted P, the R2's for the quadratic relationships were 0.40**, 0.31*, 0.34**, 0.30*, and 0.55** for the naturally oxidized, the naturally reduced, 0.1M Na2S2O4, 0.2M Na2S2O4 and Bray No. 1, respectively. The Cate-Nelson calculation confirmed the superiority of the weak acid Bray extractant and the critical value of 8.6 mg P·kg?1 soil needed for satisfactory yields of rice. There was little response of rice to added fertilizer P on soils with solution P-values greater than 0.09 mg P·l?1 in oxygenated soil slurries. Some soils with solution P of this order and high amounts of Bray No. 1 extractable P still gave modest responses to fertilizer P. Although natural or chemically induced reduction increased soil solution P, it did not improve prediction of yield response of rice to added fertilizer P.  相似文献

Summary A membrane preparation enriched in the basolateral segment of the plasma membrane was isolated from the rat renal cortex by a procedure that included separation of particulates on a self-generating Percoll gradient. The uptake ofl-glutamate by the basolateral membrane vesicles was studied. A Na+ gradient ([Na+] o >[Na+] i ) stimulated the uptake ofl-glutamate and provided the driving force for the uphill transport of the acidic amino acid, suggesting a Na+-l-glutamate cotransport system in the basolateral membrane. A K+ gradient ([K+] i >[K+] o ) increased the uptake additionally. This effect was specific for K+ (Rb+). The action of the K+ gradient in enhancing the uptake ofl-glutamate had an absolute requirement for Na+. In the presence of Na+, but in the absence of a Na+ gradient. i.e., [Na+] o =[Na+] i , the K+ gradient also energized the concentrative uptake ofl-glutamate. This effect of the K+ gradient was not attributable to an alteration in membrane potential. The finding of a concentrative uptake system forl-glutamate energized by both Na+ ([Na+] o >[Na+] i and K+ ([K+] i >[K+] o ) gradients in the basolateral membrane, combined with previous reports of an ion gradient-dependent uphill transport system for this amino acid in the brush border membrane, suggests a mechanism by whichl-glutamate is accumulated intracellularly in the renal proximal tubule to extraordinarily high concentrations.  相似文献

NH4+ and NO3? uptake were measured by continuous sampling with an autoanalyzer. For Hypnea musciformis (Wulfen) Lamouroux, NO3?up take followed saturable kinetics (K2=4.9 μg-at N t?1, Vmax= 2.85 μg- at N, g(wet)?1. h?1. The ammonium uptake data fit a trucatd hyperbola, i.e., saturation was not reach at the concentrations used. NO3? uptake was reduced one-half in the presence of NH4+, but presence of NO3? had no effect on NH4+ uptake. Darkness reduced both NO3? and NH4+ uptake by one-third to one-half. For Macrocystis pyrufera (L) C. Agardh, NO3? uptake followed saturable kinetices: K2=13.1 μg-at N. l?1. Vmax=3.05 μg-at N. g(wet)?1. h?1.NH4+ uptake showed saturable kinetics at concentration below 22 μg-at N l -1 (K2=5.3 μg-at N.1–1, Vmax= 2.38 μg-at N G (wet)?1.h?1: at higher concentration uptake increased lincarly with concentrations. NO3?and NH4+ were taken up simulataneously: presence of one form did not affect uptake of the other.  相似文献

Fluctuating salinities at different sites on the German salt-polluted rivers Werra and Weser were compared with extracellular ion levels of specimens of Gammarus tigrinus (Sexton; Amphipoda, Crustacea), collected at the same sites. G. tigrinus regulated haemolymph concentrations of inorganic anions (Cl, SO2− 4, PO3− 4) and cations (Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+) during fluctuations of salt pollution in the upper Weser. This capacity to regulate varying levels of salt pollution in the upper Weser, correlated well with the distribution of the brackish amphipods in this river ecosystem. G. tigrinus tolerated periods of Na+ and Cl stress (>380 mmol l−1) without compensating these maxima by regulating extracellular Na+ and Cl. However, during such bursts of Na+ and Cl stress in Werra and Weser, the ability to regulate extracellular [K+] at river water K+ stress of ≥6.0 mmol l−1 may explain why this brackish species has been more successful in these rivers than its competitors like Gammarus pulex. The present investigation demonstrates that the water salinity affects the [NO 3] in the haemolymph of G. tigrinus. With increasing hypo-osmotic stress the animals accumulate increasing amounts of NO 3. A simultaneous increase in stream water [NO 3] causes an additional accumulation of NO 3 in the haemolymph. The high extent of accumulation indicates that active ion transport systems may be involved. The accumulation of NO 3 in the haemolymph has low physiological consequences to G. tigrinus, but when hypo-osmotically stressed under anoxic conditions, nitrite formed by the reduction of nitrate may have an adverse affect on the metabolism of G. tigrinus.
