Adult ticks of the species Amblyomma parvum were collected from the
vegetation in the Pantanal biome (state of Mato Grosso do Sul) and from horses in the
Cerrado biome (state of Piauí) in Brazil. The ticks were
individually tested for rickettsial infection via polymerase chain reaction (PCR)
targeting three rickettsial genes, gltA, ompA and
ompB. Overall, 63.5% (40/63) and 66.7% (2/3) of A.
parvum ticks from Pantanal and Cerrado, respectively, contained
rickettsial DNA, which were all confirmed by DNA sequencing to be 100% identical to
the corresponding fragments of the gltA, ompA and
ompB genes of Candidatus Rickettsia andeanae.
This report is the first to describe Ca. R. andeanae in Brazil. 相似文献

Clostridium difficile is an emerging enteropathogen responsible for
pseudomembranous colitis in humans and diarrhoea in several domestic and wild animal
species. Despite its known importance, there are few studies aboutC.
difficile polymerase chain reaction (PCR) ribotypes in Brazil and the
actual knowledge is restricted to studies on human isolates. The aim of the study was
therefore to compare C. difficileribotypes isolated from humans and
animals in Brazil. Seventy-six C. difficile strains isolated from
humans (n = 25), dogs (n = 23), piglets (n = 12), foals (n = 7), calves (n = 7), one
cat, and one manned wolf were distributed into 24 different PCR ribotypes. Among
toxigenic strains, PCR ribotypes 014/020 and 106 were the most common, accounting for
14 (18.4%) and eight (10.5%) samples, respectively. Fourteen different PCR ribotypes
were detected among human isolates, nine of them have also been identified in at
least one animal species. PCR ribotype 027 was not detected, whereas 078 were found
only in foals. This data suggests a high diversity of PCR ribotypes in humans and
animals in Brazil and support the discussion of C. difficile as a
zoonotic pathogen. 相似文献

A new species of Pseudascarophis (Nematoda:
Cystidicolidae) found in the stomach of Kyphosus sectatrix
(Linnaeus) (Kyphosidae), off Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is described. The new
species can be differentiated from the other congeners by the presence of
lateral alae, distinct but inconspicuous cephalic papillae at the anterior end,
three pairs of precloacal and one pair of adcloacal papillae in males, egg
morphology and morphometry of glandular oesophagus and spicules.
Pseudascarophis tropica is transferred to
Ascarophis as Ascarophis tropica
(Solov''eva) comb. n. due to its ambiguous diagnosis. 相似文献

A new species of Meropeidae (Mecoptera) from Brazil, Austromerope brasiliensis
sp. n., is described, representing only the 3rd extant species described in this family and the 1st record of the family from the Neotropical region. The distribution and biogeography of the family are discussed and we propose that Meropeidae originated before continental drift and then divided into two branches, northern and southern, with the breakup of Pangea. Identification keys for the Neotropical families of Mecoptera and for the species of Meropeidae are provided. 相似文献

The Cuban fauna of the genus Berosus Leach, 1817 is reviewed based on newly collected material as well as historical and type specimens. Nine species are recognized, including three recorded from Cuba for the first time: Berosus infuscatus LeConte, 1855, Berosus interstitialis Knisch, 1924 (= Berosus stribalus Orchymont, 1946 syn. n.) and Berosus metalliceps Sharp, 1882. Only one of the nine Cuban species, Berosus chevrolati, remains endemic to Cuba, as two other species previously considered as endemic to Cuba are recorded from elsewhere: Berosus quadridens from Mexico and Central America and Berosus trilobus from the Dominican Republic. Notes on biology and Cuban distribution are provided for all nine species. Berosus quadridens Chevrolat, 1863, stat. restit. is removed from synonym with Berosus truncatipennis and considered a valid species. 相似文献

The aims of this study was to evaluate the effects of oil-resin of Copaiba (Copaifera duckei Dwyer), aired in vaginal cream on the reproductive performance of female rats (Rattus norvegicus). To determine the components of the C. duckei oleoresin, gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (CG-MS) was used, and considering the trans-caryophyllene sesquiterpene as a phytochemical marker in the oleoresin. Due to the extensive use of copaiba oleoresin in the suppository form for gynecological infections, an evaluation was carried out on the effects of copaiba oleoresin (Copaifera duckei Dwyer), delivered in a vaginal cream, on the reproductive performance of female Wistar rats. For this purpose, three groups (n = 5-6/group) of female rats were treated as follows: 1 - vaginal cream of copaiba oleoresin (28.6 mg/kg), 2 - base vaginal cream and 3 - control (physiological saline 0.9%), administered intravaginally, for 30 days before pregnancy, and from day zero to day 20 during pregnancy. Laparotomy was performed on the 21st day of pregnancy, followed by the determination of reproductive variables: number of live and dead fetuses, mass of the fetuses and placentas, number of implantations and resorptions, number of corpora lutea, pre- and post-implantation loss, and analyses of the fetuses with regard to external and internal anomalies and/or malformations (skeletal and visceral). The trans-caryophyllene present in the sample is suggested as a phytochemical marker and the results of this study demonstrate an absence of maternal toxicity and foetotoxicity embryofoetotoxicity at the dose administered, corresponding to ten times the recommended dose for use in humans. Accordingly, no significant statistical difference was observed between the treated and control groups, for the variables analyzed. Thus, it is concluded that the vaginal cream containing 2.5% copaiba oleoresin is safe during gestation, in female rats (Rattus norvegicus) of the Wistar strain. 相似文献

Angiostrongylus cantonensis is the etiologic agent of eosinophilic
meningoencephalitis in humans. Cases have been recorded in many parts of the world,
including Brazil. The aim of this study was to compare the differences in the biology
and morphology of two different Brazilian haplotypes of A. : ac8 and
ac9. A significantly larger number of L1 larvae eliminated in the faeces of rodents
at the beginning of the patent period was observed for ac9 haplotype and compared to
the total of L1 larvae eliminated, there was a significant difference between the two
haplotypes. The ac9 haplotype showed a significant difference in the proportion of
female and male specimens (0.6:1), but the same was not observed for ac8 (1.2:1). The
morphometric analysis showed that male and female specimens isolated from ac8
haplotype were significantly larger with respect to body length, oesophagus length,
spicule length (male) and distance from the anus to the rear end (female) compared to
specimens from ac9. The morphological analysis by light microscopy showed little
variation in the level of bifurcations at the lateral rays in the right lobe of the
copulatory bursa between the two haplotypes. The biological, morphological and
morphometric variations observed between the two haplotypes agree with the observed
variation at the molecular level using the cytochrome oxidase subunit I marker and
reinforce the possible influence of geographical isolation on the development of
these haplotypes. 相似文献

Three new species of orchid bees are described and figured from the Amazon and Atlantic forests of Brazil. Euglossa clausi
sp. n., Euglossa moratoi
sp. n., and Euglossa pepei
sp. n. are distinguished from their close congeners Euglossa crassipunctata Moure, Euglossa parvula Dressler, and Euglossa sapphirina Moure, previously placed in the subgenus Euglossa (Glossurella) Dressler, 1982, a demonstrably paraphyletic assemblage requiring serious reconsideration. Their affinities with related species are discussed and pertinent characters are figured. 相似文献

Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) in Brazil is transmitted by the phlebotomine
Lutzomyia longipalpis and in some midwestern regions by
Lutzomyia cruzi. Studies of the phlebotomine fauna, feeding
habits and natural infection rate by Leishmania contribute to
increased understanding of the epidemiological chain of leishmaniases and their
vectorial capacity. Collections were performed in Jaciara, state of Mato Grosso from
2010-2013, during which time 2,011 phlebotomines (23 species) were captured (68.70%
Lu. cruzi and 20.52% Lutzomyia whitmani).
Lu. cruzi females were identified by observing the shapes of the
cibarium (a portion of the mouthpart) and spermatheca, from which samples were
obtained for polymerase chain reaction to determine the rates of natural infection.
Engorged phlebotomines were assessed to identify the blood-meal host by ELISA. A
moderate correlation was discovered between the number of Lu. cruzi
and the temperature and the minimum rate of infection was 6.10%. Twenty-two females
were reactive to the antisera of bird (28%), dog (3.30%) and skunk (1.60%). We
conclude that Lu. cruzi and Lu. whitmani have
adapted to the urban environment in this region and that Lu. cruzi
is the most likely vector of VL in Jaciara. Moreover, maintenance of
Leishmania in the environment is likely aided by the presence of
birds and domestic and synanthropic animals. 相似文献

The Thrips genus-group is a monophyletic taxon composed of 17 genera, whose representatives exhibit three main synapomorphies: absence of ocellar setae I, presence of ctenidia on tergites V–VIII, and ctenidia on tergite VIII positioned posteromesad to the spiracles. The group is native to and more diverse in the Old World, especially in Southeast Asia, but several species are widely distributed, including some pests of cultivated plants. Here, we provide an identification key to the species of the Thrips genus-group currently recorded in Brazil, including three new records of Bolacothrips striatopennatus (Schmutz), Thrips florum Schmutz, and Thrips orientalis (Bagnall), and present notes on their morphology and biology. Stenchaetothrips biformis Bagnall is excluded from the list of thrips recorded in Brazil. 相似文献
