Antibacterial Schiff bases derived from 1,2,4-triazoles as well as their metal complexes incorporating cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II) and zinc(II) have been synthesized and characterized. Physico-chemical studies suggest that an octahedral geometry for the cobalt(II), nickel(II) and zinc(II)and square-planer geometry for the copper(II) complexes. These complexes have been screened for antibacterial activity against three Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Bacillus subtilis) and two Gram-negative (Salmonella typhi and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) bacterial strains, and results compared with the activity of the free ligands. The metal complexes were found to be more potent against one or more bacterial strains than the free ligands.  相似文献

A series of Co (II), Cu (II), Ni (II) and Zn (II) complexes of mercaptothiadiazole-derived furanyl, thienyl, pyrrorlyl, salicylyl and pyridinyl Schiff bases were synthesized, characterized and screened for their in vitro antibacterial activity against four Gram-negative, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhi and Shigella fexneri, and two Gram-positive; Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureous bacterial strains. The results of these studies show the metal complexes to be more antibacterial as compared to the prepared un-complexed Schiff bases.  相似文献

2-Amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole undergoes a condensation reaction with furane-, thiophene- and pyrrole-2-carboxaldehyde to form tridentate NNO, NNS and NNN donor Schiff bases. These Schiff bases were further used to obtain complexes of the type [M(L) 2] X, where M=Co(II), Cu(II), Ni(II) or Zn(II), L=L 1, L 2 or L 3 and X=Cl 2. The new compounds described here have been characterized by their physical, spectral and analytical data, and have been screened for antibacterial activity against several bacterial strains such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The antibacterial potency of the Schiff bases increased upon chelation/complexation in comparison to the uncomplexed Schiff bases against the tested bacterial species thus, opening new approaches to find new ways in the fight against antibiotic-resistant strains.  相似文献

It was found by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy that the Schiff base, 2-deoxy-2-(2-hydroxybenzaldimino)-D-glucopyranose exhibits enol-imine-keto-amine and anomeric equilibria in methanolic, and in dimethyl sulfoxide solutions. The reaction of the Schiff base with nickel acetate gave the bidentate, mononuclear Ni(II) complex that was characterized by spectroscopic methods and by cyclic voltammetry. The coordination of the Schiff base to the metal is through the enol-imine tautomeric form, and the anomeric equilibrium remains in dimethyl sulfoxide solutions. This complex was also obtained by reaction of D-glucosamine with Ni(II) salicylaldehydate. The same reaction was employed for the synthesis of bis-N-[2-deoxy-D-galactopyranosyl-2-(2-hydroxybenzaldiminate)]Ni(II). The small paramagnetic shifts of the 1H NMR resonances of the complexes suggest that paramagnetic species are present in low proportions.  相似文献

A series of metal complexes of cobalt(II), nickel(II) and copper(II) have been synthesized with newly derived biologically active ligands. These ligands were synthesized by the condensation of 3-substituted-4-amino-5-hydrazino-1,2,4-triazole and 8-formyl-7-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin. The probable structure of the complexes has been proposed on the basis of elemental analyses and spectral (IR, Uv-Vis, magnetic, ESR, FAB-mass and thermal studies) data. Electro chemical study of the complexes is also reported. All these complexes are non-electrolytes in DMF and DMSO. All the ligands and their Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes were screened for their antibacterial (Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus pyogenes and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and antifungal (Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus and cladosporium) activities by MIC method. The brine shrimp bioassay was also carried out to study their in vitro cytotoxic properties.  相似文献

Metal complexes of d-glucose (d-Glc) from large cation containing dibromo-dichloro salts of dipositive metals [NEt4]2[MBr2Cl2] (M = Mn, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn) and the disodium salt of glucose were synthesized from a MeOH:MeCN mixture. The complexes were characterized by UV-vis absorption, circular dichroism, IR and proton magnetic resonance spectroscopies, and by elemental analysis, and were found to be Na[M(d-Glc)(OMe)Cl]. Cyclic voltammetric studies of these complexes, in the acidic to neutral pH range, indicated no dissociation, even in highly acidic conditions. This paper is dedicated to Professor Richard H. Holm (Harvard University) on the occasion of his 60th birthday.  相似文献

Schiff bases derived from oxaldiamide/oxalylhydrazine and pyrrol-2-carbaldehyde, or salicylaldehyde respectively, as well as their Zn(II) complexes have been prepared and tested as antibacterial agents. These Schiff bases function as tetradentate ligands, forming octahedral Zn(II) complexes. The ketonic form for the diamide derived Schiff base and the enolic form of the hydrazide derived Schiff base were the preferred tautomers for coordination of the metal ions. The title compounds and their Zn(II) derivatives were evaluated for antibacterial activity against several bacterial strains which easily develop resistance to classical antibiotics, such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Some of them showed promising biological activity in inhibiting the growth of such organisms.  相似文献

A new ligand N-salicyloyl-N'-o-hydroxythiobenzhydrazide (H2Sotbh) forms complexes [Mn(HSotbh)2], [Fe(Sotbh-H)(H2O)2], [M(Sotbh)] [M=Co(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II)] and [Ni(Sotbh)(H(2)O)2], which were characterized by various physico-chemical techniques. M?ssbauer spectrum of [Fe(Sotbh-H)(H2O)2] reveals the quantum admixture of 5/2 and 3/2 spin-states. Mn(II), Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes were observed to inhibit the growth of tumor in vitro, whereas, Fe(III), Co(II), Zn(II) complexes did not. In vivo administration of Mn(II), Cu(II) and Ni(II) resulted in prolongation of survival of tumor bearing mice. Tumor bearing mice administered with Mn(II), Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes showed reversal of tumor growth associated induction of apoptosis in lymphocytes. The paper discusses the possible mechanisms and therapeutic implication of the H2Sotbh and its metal complexes in tumor regression and tumor growth associated immunosuppression.  相似文献

The Schiff base ligand, oxalic bis[(2-hydroxybenzylidene)hydrazide], H2L, and its Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), UO2(VI) and Fe(III) complexes were prepared and tested as antibacterial agents. The Schiff base acts as a dibasic tetra- or hexadentate ligand with metal cations in molar ratio 1:1 or 2:1 (M:L) to yield either mono- or binuclear complexes, respectively. The ligand and its metal complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR, Mass, and UV-Visible spectra and the magnetic moments and electrical conductance of the complexes were also determined. For binuclear complexes, the magnetic moments are quite low compared to the calculated value for two metal ions complexes and this shows antiferromagnetic interactions between the two adjacent metal ions. The ligand and its metal complexes were tested against a Gram + ve bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus), a Gram -ve bacteria (Escherichia coli), and a fungi (Candida albicans). The tested compounds exhibited high antibacterial activities.  相似文献

Summary For the first time, Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) complexes have been synthesized involving an intermediate Schiff base, indane-1,3-dione-2-imine-N-acetic acid the condensed product of ninhydrin and glycine. These coloured complexes were characterised by elemental analysis, molar conductivity, thermogravimetric analyses/differential thermal analysis, infrared, magnetic susceptibility, NMR and electronic spectral studies. Mechanisms for their formation have been proposed. The experimental studies reveal that the complexes possess octahedral stereochemistry whereas the Schiff base behaves as a monobasic tridentate ligand. A molecular structure for the metal complexes is also proposed. A comparative study of the antimicrobial activity of ninhydrin and the corresponding metal complexes againstEscherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Staphylococcus aureus andStreptococcus faecalis has been undertaken and the results are discussed.  相似文献

The Schiff base ligand, oxalic bis[(2-hydroxybenzylidene)hydrazide], H(2)L, and its Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), UO(2)(VI) and Fe(III) complexes were prepared and tested as antibacterial agents. The ligand and its metal complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, (1)H NMR, Mass, and UV-Visible spectra and the magnetic moments and electrical conductance of the complexes were also determined. For binuclear complexes, the magnetic moments are quite low compared to the calculated value for two metal ions complexes and this shows antiferromagnetic interactions between the two adjacent metal ions. Two NNS tridentate Schiff base ligands of 2-benzoylpyridine S-methyldithiocarbazate (HL1) and 2-benzoylpyridine S-phenyldithiocarbazate (HL2) and their transition metal complexes [Cu2(L1)2(CH3COO)](ClO4) (1), [Zn2(L1)2(ClO4)2] (2), [Zn(L2)2](3) have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, MS, NMR and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. In the solid state, each of two Schiff bases remains in its thione tautomeric form with the thione sulfur atom trans to the azomethine nitrogen atom. Under similar prepared conditions, three new complexes showed distinctly different coordination modes depending on their coordinating preferences. Each copper atom in S-bridged dinuclear complex [Cu2(L1)2(CH3COO)](ClO4) (1) is surrounded by five donor atoms in a square-pyramidal fashion (4 + 1). [Zn2(L1)2(ClO4)2] (2) is a dimer in which each zinc atom adopts a seven-coordinate distorted pentagonal bipyramidal geometry, while mononuclear [Zn(L2)2] (3) has octahedral coordination geometry. Biological studies, carried out in vitro against selected bacteria, fungi, and K562 leukaemia cell line, respectively, have shown that different substituted groups attached at the dithiocarbazate moieties and metals showed distinctive differences in the biological property. Zinc(II) complexes 2 and 3 could distinguish K562 leukaemia cell line from normal hepatocyte QSG7701 cell line. Effect of the title compounds on Mitochondria membrane potential (MMP) and PI-associated fluorescence intensity in K562 leukaemia cell line are also studied. The title compounds may exert their cytotoxicity activity via induced loss of MMP.  相似文献

Vitamin K3-thiosemicarbazone (C12H11N3NaO4S2 x 5H2O, abbreviated as VT), a new Schiff base derivative, has been synthesized. Its crystal structure, determined by X-ray diffraction, is triclinic, space group P1. We have also prepared five novel complexes of VT with transition metals: [M(VT)(2)2H2O] x nH2O, (n = 1 and 2 for M = Cu(II) and Zn(II), respectively) and [M'(HVT)2Cl2] x mH2O, (m = 4, 5, and 7 for M' = Co(II), Mn(II), and Ni(II), respectively). These compounds were characterized by IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy, molar conductivity, thermal analyses, complexometric titration, and elemental analysis. In all the complexes, the VT ligand coordinates through sulfur and oxygen atoms, and the geometry around metal atom is best described as octahedral. In vitro tests of antibacterial activity showed that VT and its complexes with Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II) all had strong inhibitory actions against G(+) Staphylococcus aureus, G(+) Hay bacillus, and G(-) Escherichia coli.  相似文献

Combined pH-metric, UV-Vis, 1H NMR and EPR spectral investigations on the complex formation of M(II) ions (M=Co, Ni, Cu and Zn) with N-(2-benzimidazolyl)methyliminodiacetic acid (H2bzimida, hereafter H2L) in aqueous solution at a fixed ionic strength, I=10−1 mol dm−3, at 25 ± 1 °C indicate the formation of M(L), M(H−1L) and M2(H−1L)+ complexes. Proton-ligand and metal-ligand constants and the complex formation equilibria have been elucidated. Solid complexes, [M(L)(H2O)2] · nH2O (n=1 for M = Co and Zn, n=2 for M = Ni) and {Cu (μ-L) · 4H2O}n, have been isolated and characterized by elemental analysis, spectral, conductance and magnetic measurements and thermal studies. Structures of [Ni(L)(H2O)2] · 2H2O and {Cu(μ-L) · 4H2O}n have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The nickel(II) complex exists in a distorted octahedral environment in which the metal ion is coordinated by the two carboxylate O atoms, the amino-N atom of the iminodiacetate moiety and the pyridine type N-atom of the benzimidazole moiety. Two aqua O atoms function as fifth and sixth donor atoms. The copper(II) complex is made up of interpenetrating polymeric chains of antiferromagnetically coupled Cu(II) ions linked by carboxylato bridges in syn-anti (apical-equatorial) bonding mode and stabilized via interchain hydrogen bonds and π-π stacking interactions.  相似文献

A new potentially tetradentate (N4) Schiff base ligand (L), 1,9,12,20-tetraazatetracyclo[18.2.2.02,7.014,19]tetracosa-2(7),3,5,8,12,14(19),15,17-octaene containing a piperazine moiety is described. Macrocyclic Schiff base complexes, [NiL](ClO4)2 (1) and [CuL](ClO4)2 (2) have been obtained from equimolar amounts of ligand (L) with nickel(II) and copper(II) metal ions. While the equilibrium reaction in the presence of cobalt(II) and zinc(II) metal ions with ligand L in a 1:1 molar ratio yielded the open-chain Schiff base complexes, [CoL′](ClO4)2 (3) and [ZnL′](ClO4)2 (4) containing two terminal primary amino groups. The ligand L′ is 1,4-bis(2-(2-aminoethyliminomethyl)phenyl)piperazine. The crystal structures of (1) and (4) have been also determined by X-ray diffraction. It was shown that the Ni(II) is coordinated to the ligand L by two nitrogen atoms of piperazine group and two nitrogen atoms of the imine groups, in a slightly distorted square-planar geometry. Also single crystal X-ray analysis of (4) confirmed a distorted octahedral arrangement in the vicinity of Zn atom with N6 donor set. The spectroscopic characterization of all complexes is consistent with their crystal structures.  相似文献

Complexes of formula M(2,5-DHB)24H2O (M = Mn, Co, Ni, Zn, Cu and Cd; 2,5-DHB = 2,5-dihydroxybenzoate) were prepared and characterized by means of infrared and electronic spectroscopy, and by electron spin resonance. For the Zn complex the crystal and molecular structure was also determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystal is orthorhombic, space group Pbca (No. 61), with a = 18.503(4), b = 13.536(3), c = 6.900(2) Å, and Z = 4. The final refinement used 877 reflections and gave a residual R value of 0.041. The complex has slightly compressed octahedral coordination, with the zinc atom bound to two monodentate carboxylate groups lying in trans positions and four water molecules. X-ray data and infrared spectra show the Mn, Co, Ni, Zn and Cd complexes to be isostructural with the Zn compound. The electronic, infrared and ESR spectra of the copper(II) complex are consistent with a CuO4? based chromophore involving two water molecules and two monodentate carboxylate groups in the metal plane, and long axial contacts.  相似文献

New types of λ6-sulfanenitrile-transition metal complexes, [MCl2(ndsdsd)] (1) and [M(ndsdsd)2]Cl2 (2) (M = Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II)), were obtained by reacting MCl2 with bis[(nitrilo(diphenyl)-λ6-sulfanyl)](diphenyl)-λ6-sulfanediimide Ph2S(N-(Ph2)SN)2 (ndsdsd). The crystal structures of these complexes have been elucidated by X-ray crystallographic analysis. The results revealed that, in complexes 1 and 2, the two terminal nitrogen atoms chelate to the metal center to form an eight-membered sulfur-nitrogen ring.  相似文献
