The objective of the present study was to investigate brain activity abnormalities in the early stage of Parkinson’s disease (PD). To achieve this goal, eyes-closed resting state electroencephalography (EEG) signals were recorded from 15 early-stage PD patients and 15 age-matched healthy controls. The AR Burg method and the wavelet packet entropy (WPE) method were used to characterize EEG signals in different frequency bands between the groups, respectively. In the case of the AR Burg method, an increase of relative powers in the δ- and θ-band, and a decrease of relative powers in the α- and β-band were observed for patients compared with controls. For the WPE method, EEG signals from patients showed significant higher entropy over the global frequency domain. Furthermore, WPE in the γ-band of patients was higher than that of controls, while WPE in the δ-, θ-, α- and β-band were all lower. All of these changes in EEG dynamics may represent early signs of cortical dysfunction, which have potential use as biomarkers of PD in the early stage. Our findings may be further used for early intervention and early diagnosis of PD.  相似文献

At least 308 species or subspecies of stygo- or troglobionts and at least 735 species or subspecies of mostly presumed stygo- or troglophiles representing 17 phyla, 38 classes, 90 orders, and 278 families of invertebrates are currently known to populate the caves and subterranean waters of Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union. The main evolutionary burst in the endogean habitats including the MSS (milieu souterrain superficiel, or mesovoid shallow stratum) is observed in arthropods, primarily crustaceans, collembolans, and beetles. The major centers of taxonomic diversity among stygo- and troglobionts within the study region are the Caucasus (181 species, or almost 59%) and Crimea (44 species, or over 14%), which are montane karstified “glacial” refugia of the nemoral biota. The contribution of the other major regions including karstified areas is considerably smaller and gradually decreases from Central Asia (35 species; over 11%), the Far East (33; nearly 11%), the Ukrainian Carpathians with Podolia (12; almost 4%), the Russian Plain (7; over 2%), the Urals and Ural region (7; over 2%) to Siberia (5 species; 1.6%). Inventorying remains a topical problem in assessing the stygo- and troglofaunas of the territories in question. The most complete bibliography possible is included.  相似文献

There is only one publication quoted in connection with “wasting disease” of Zostera marina L. in Ireland. This was examined and it was concluded that in fact, it did not describe “wasting disease”, but merely the normal seasonal changes of Zostera. However, another report which has not been quoted before did give an account of the disease in County Down. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a common form of dementia, which is characterized by the presence of extracellular amyloid plaques comprising the amyloid β peptide (Aβ). Although the mechanism underlying AD pathogenesis remains elusive, accumulating evidence suggests that the process of amyloid fibril formation is a surface-mediated event, which plays an important role in AD onset and progression. In this study, the mechanism of Aβ aggregation on hydrophobic surfaces was investigated with dual polarization interferometry (DPI), which provides real-time information on early stages of the aggregation process. Aggregation was monitored on a hydrophobic C18 surface and a polar silicon oxynitride surface. The DPI results showed a characteristic Aβ aggregation pattern involving a decrease in the density of Aβ at the surface followed by an increase in the thickness on the hydrophobic C18 chip. Most importantly, the DPI measurements provided unique information on the early stages of Aβ aggregation, which is characterized by the presence of initially slow nucleus formation process followed by exponential fibril elongation. The dimensions of the putative nucleus corresponded to a thickness of ~5 nm for both Aβ40 and Aβ42, which may represent about 10-15 molecules. The results thus support the nucleation-dependent polymerization model as indicated by the presence of a nucleation phase followed by an exponential growth phase. These results are the first reported measurements of the real-time changes in Aβ molecular structure during the early stages of amyloid formation at the nanometer level.  相似文献

A period of chromosome spiralization and contraction was observed between premeiotic interphase and leptotene in Lilium longiflorum Croft. There was variation in the extent of preleptotene spiralization and contraction of chromosomes among microsporocytes, anthers and buds. The chromosomes sometimes contracted sufficiently to be visible as separate entities. It could then be determined that the chromosomes were single and entirely separate; synapsis and crossing-over had not yet occurred. Furthermore there was no evidence of alignment or association of homologues during the preleptotene contraction period; the chromosomes appeared to be distributed at random. The chromosomes subsequently elongated into the leptotene stage. Wherever they were visible separately the chromosomes were single in early leptotene. These observations support the classical view that synapsis of homologous chromosomes takes place during zygotene, followed by crossing-over at pachytene.It is a pleasure to dedicate this paper to Dr. Sally Hughes-Schrader on the occasion of her seventy-fifth birthday.  相似文献

Chromosome pairing and chiasma frequency were studied in meiocytes at diakinesis of Lilium speciosum cv. Rosemede fixed up to 21 days after the start of either continuous or 3 day pulse colchicine treatment. The two treatments gave similar results. In pulse treated pollen mother cells (PMCs) the mean chiasma frequency per cell fell from 26.4 in controls to 8.5 after fourteen days while the mean number of univalents per cell increased from 0.05 to 17.58. There was a negative correlation between mean chiasma frequency per bivalent and per PMC in colchicine treated buds; univalents were preferentially induced in bivalents with one chiasma, and preferentially excluded in bivalents with 4 chiasmata. Some chiasmata were redistributed to surviving bivalents despite the concurrent reduction in chiasma frequency per meiocyte. — Colchicine sensitivity began in premeiotic interphase and extended to mid or late zygotene in PMCs; ongoing synapsis was unaffected. However, susceptibility to univalency was asynchronous between bivalents occurring at zygotene in short chromosomes but at late premeiotic interphase in the longest chromosomes. The number of chiasmata per bivalent could be altered by colchicine without inducing univalents, but the ultimate effect was to reduce the number of chiasmata per bivalent (or per chromosome arm) directly to zero. The major factors determining the order and extent of reduced pairing and chiasma number were total chromosome length and arm length. Pairing and chiasma formation in embryo sac mother cells were less sensitive to colchicine than in PMCs, but their behavior was otherwise similar.  相似文献

Summary The time required for each of 50 honeybees to forage from a hairy vetch blossom, and the time required for each bee that tripped blossoms to trip a different blossom was measured three times each in two fields. There were highly significant differences in the speed with which bees tripped and foraged from blossoms in the two fields. It appeared that the blossoms in one field were easier to trip than the blossoms in the other. The bees spent less time foraging from the blossoms in the field in which tripping was most rapid, probably because there was less nectar in the blossoms in that field than in the other field. The bees that did not trip blossoms foraged from blossoms more rapidly than the bees that did trip the blossoms. After all known sources of variation had been removed there was a highly significant correlation between the times required for bees to trip and to forage from blossoms; this is interpreted as indicating differences in the efficiency of individual bees. In one of the fields many of the bees foraged through punctures in the blossoms made by carpenter bees. The invasion of NW Europe by a single clone of male-sterile Fallopia japonica var. japonica by purely vegetative reproduction has demonstrated that reproduction by seed and the genetic diversity associated with it may not be an essential feature of plant invasions, at least in the short term. What is less well known is that a significant proportion of the Japanese Knotweed s.l. involved is not F. japonica var. japonica, but the hybrid between it and F. sachalinensisF. × bohemica. This hybrid is able to backcross to either parent with the potential to replace the missing male F. japonica; by the same process, the hybrid is generating the genetic diversity so conspicuously lacking in F. japonica. In terms of understanding the population structure in a particular country, it is important to be able to identify hybrids and putative back-crosses. We bring together a mixture of published and unpublished information to provide a comprehensive section on morphological and anatomical aids to identification. Regeneration of plants from stem and rhizome fragments varies by taxon, as do responses to control techniques, underlining the importance of correct identification of these plants. In this paper we look closely at this group of taxa, with special emphasis on the role played by hybridization, with an examination of the genetic make up of seedlings produced in the wild or by artificial hybridizations, and the implications that this will have on the future directions of the invasion process.  相似文献
