Eight fungicides (benodanil, carboxin, cyproconazole, fenpropimorph, fur-mecyclox, iprodione, pencycuron and tolclofos-methyl) were evaluated, under growth chamber conditions, as seed treatments against pre-emergence damping-off and post-emergence seedling root rot in six Brassica species. Five cultivars of B. rapa, four cultivars of B. juncea, four cultivars of B. napus and one cultivar/ strain from each of B. carinata, B. nigra and B. oleracea were grown in soilless mix infested with an isolate of Rhizoctonia solani AG-2-1. B. nigra and B. juncea were considerably less susceptible to R. solani than the four other species. Cyproconazole at 0.05-0.1 g a.i./kg seed and the other fungicides at 2–4 g a.i./ kg seed provided almost complete control of pre-emergence damping-off in most Brassica species and their cultivars. Their efficacy varied against the post-emergence seedling root rot. Furmecyclox, iprodione, tolclofos-methyl and pencycuron consistently gave good control of seedling root rot in all Brassica species and their cultivars. Benodanil and fenpropimorph provided moderate control, and carboxin and cyproconazole gave poor control against root rot. Efficacy of carboxin, cyproconazole, benodanil and fenopropimorph against seedling root rot varied significantly (P ≤ 0.05) among cultivars within a Brassica species.  相似文献

The effect of seed‐borne pathogens of wheat and barley on crown and root rot diseases of seven barley cultivars (Jimah‐6, Jimah‐51, Jimah‐54, Jimah‐58, Omani, Beecher and Duraqi) and three wheat cultivars (Cooley, Maissani and Shawarir) was investigated. Bipolaris sorokiniana and Alternaria alternata were detected in seeds of at least eight cultivars, but Fusarium species in seeds of only two barley cultivars (Jimah‐54 and Jimah‐58). Crown rot and root rot symptoms developed on barley and wheat cultivars following germination of infected seeds in sterilized growing media. Bipolaris sorokiniana was the only pathogen consistently isolated from crowns and roots of the emerging seedlings. In addition, crown rot and root rot diseases of non‐inoculated barley cultivars correlated significantly with B. sorokiniana inoculum in seeds (P = 0.0019), but not with Fusarium or Alternaria (P > 0.05). These results indicate the role of seed‐borne inoculum of B. sorokiniana in development of crown rot and root rot diseases. Pathogenicity tests of B. sorokiniana isolates confirmed its role in inducing crown rot and root rot, with two wheat cultivars being more resistant to crown and root rots than most barley cultivars (P < 0.05). Barley cultivars also exhibited significant differences in resistance to crown rot (P < 0.05). In addition, black point disease symptoms were observed on seeds of three barley cultivars and were found to significantly affect seed germination and growth of some of these cultivars. This study confirms the role of seed‐borne inoculum of B. sorokiniana in crown and root rots of wheat and barley and is the first report in Oman of the association of B. sorokiniana with black point disease of barley.  相似文献

Summary Natural senescence of the root cortex was assessed by nuclear staining, for cultivars and chromosome substitution lines of spring wheat known to differ in (1) susceptibility to common root rot, (2) total rhizosphere populations and (3) ability to support growth of a free-living nitrogen-fixing bacterium.Together, three root rot susceptible wheat lines showed significantly more cortical senescence than did three resistant lines; the susceptible lines also support larger rhizosphere populations. The wheat line that supports growth of a nitrogen-fixing bacterium showed significantly less cortical death than did any other line. Substitution of chromosome pairs 5B or 5D between the parent cultivars Rescue and Cadet substantially altered the amount of root cortex death, which is thus genetically determined. It is suggested thatCochliobolus sativus and other weak parasites benefit from early natural senescence of the root cortex, and that the degree of susceptibility or resistance of wheat lines to common root rot is at least partly determined by differences in cortical senescence.  相似文献

Over 6 yr the effectiveness of imazalil, prochloraz and fenpiclonil, applied either alone or in a mixture, in controlling gangrene, dry rot, skin spot and silver scurf on potato tubers in store was compared with that of 2-aminobutane and thiabendazole. An assessment was also made of their efficiency in controlling the development of these diseases on the daughter tubers of seed tubers treated at harvest or before planting. Overall, 2-aminobutane was more effective in controlling gangrene (Phoma foveata) in store than the spray-applied fungicides. Deposits of imazalil, thiabendazole and fenpiclonil were greater when sprays were applied with an electrostatic sprayer than with a hydraulic sprayer. The opposite was found with the mixture of prochloraz Mn and tolclofos-methyl. More effective gangrene control was associated with the highest deposits. Fenpiclonil and the mixture of thiabendazole and imazalil were more effective in controlling dry rot (Fusarium solani var. coeruleum) than imazalil alone. The development of dry rot was, however, increased by 2-aminobutane treatment on eight out of 14 stocks. 2-aminobutane gave the greatest reduction (83%) in the severity of skin spot during storage whereas thiabendazole alone, and the mixture of thiabendazole and imazalil, gave mean reductions of 70% and 65% respectively. This mixture and fenpiclonil gave the greatest reduction in the severity of silver scurf although, in general, reductions in silver scurf with fungicide treatment were less than with skin spot. The type of sprayer used to apply a fungicide did not affect the effectiveness of the fungicides in controlling either skin spot or silver scurf on tubers in store, or on the daughter tubers. The incidence of gangrene and dry rot on daughter tubers was not reduced consistently by fungicide treatment of seed tubers of the six stocks tested. However, the severity of skin spot and silver scurf was reduced by fungicide treatments of all eight stocks but the reduction in disease was greater for skin spot than for silver scurf. All fungicides gave reductions in the severity of skin spot, and fenpiclonil and the mixture of thiabendazole and imazalil were the most effective for silver scurf. The effectiveness of the fungicides in controlling these diseases was similar for seed treated at harvest and that treated before planting.  相似文献

Pathogenicity tests of twenty-six fungal isolates were tested on peanut plants (Giza 5 cv.) and the results revealed that, Fusarium oxysporum isolate (No. I) followed by F. solani (No. II) then F. moniliforme (No III) significantly caused highest incidence of root rot disease. Also, F. moniliforme (No III) followed by F. solani (No II) then F. oxysporum (No I) gave the highest incidence of pod rot disease. The effectiveness of vescular arbuscular-mycorrhiza (VAM) at different application rates on the incidence of root rot, pod rot diseases and plant growth parameters of peanut was studied. All soil treatments with each rate of VAM significantly reduced root and pod rot diseases compared with control (rate 0%). The best reduction in the severity of both diseases with VAM was found at the rate of 3%. Application of rhizobacterin, microbin and cerialin biofertilisers at the different concentrations decreased the severity of both root rot and pod rot severity diseases compared with non-treated seeds. The greatest reduction in both diseases was achieved at a concentration of 8/100?g seeds. The highest number of pods and fresh weight (g) was achieved in seed supplemented with each biofertiliser at concentration of 8/100?g seed.  相似文献

Soybean root rot, caused primarily by Fusarium solani f. sp. phaseoli in a complex with F. oxysporum and Rhizoctonia solani, has become an increasing problem for soybeans, dry beans, and other rotation crops in central Minnesota due to soil conditions associated with reduced tillage. This study was conducted, in two field sites in central Minnesota located near Staples and Verndale, to develop methods for nondestructive assessment of root rot severity using plant radiometric properties. Soybean canopy reflectance was measured with a hand-held multi-spectral radiometer. Prior to the radiometer measurements, attempts were made to create differing root rot situations with moldboard or chisel tillage, and with or without a biological seed treatment. Root rot severity was estimated using a visual disease severity scale. Colony-forming units (CFU) were determined to estimate soil populations of pathogenic F. solani and F. oxysporum. Results from the Verndale site consistently showed significant treatment effects in the measured canopy radiometric parameters, and in the visual disease rating and yield (significant for seed treatment). Values of a simple ratio vegetation index from this site exhibited negative relationships with disease rating and F. oxysporum CFU, and a positive linear relationship with yield. Treatment effects were generally not significant at the Staples site because of low initial F. oxysporum populations. The results indicate that remote sensing is potentially a rapid, nondestructive means for assessment of root rot diseases in soybean.  相似文献

This study examined the performances of 21 cassava cultivars in two cropping seasons on the field against root rot disease and the yield in cassava-maize intercrop. Data were collected on number of root/plant, weight of root (t/ha) and disease severity (DS) on rotted roots at 12 and 16 months after planting (MAP), respectively. There were significant (P ≤ 0.05) differences for DS at 12 and 16 MAP in both seasons with cultivar TMS 97/JW2 having the least DS score. TMS 97/JW2 was resistant to the root rot pathogen, while eleven other cultivars were moderately resistant to the disease at 16 MAP. There was no consistency in the roots weight for the cultivars over the two cropping seasons but higher roots weight was recorded at 16 MAP than 12 MAP with different cultivars having highest roots weight at these periods. Intercropping maize with cassava does not have any management potential on root rot development.  相似文献

Sixteen actinobacterial strains isolated from various ecological niches in the Algerian Sahara were screened for their biocontrol potential in root rot disease caused by Fusarium culmorum and their promotion of durum wheat growth. All actinobacteria were studied for in vitro antagonistic activity and plant-growth-promotion traits, for the production of cyanhydric acid, siderophores, chitinases and indole-3-acetic acid, and for the solubilisation of inorganic phosphate. Strongly antagonistic actinobacteria were selected for the biocontrol of F. culmorum in vivo and for the growth promotion of durum wheat plants in autoclaved and non-autoclaved soils. The Streptosporangium becharense strain SG1 exhibited remarkable positive results in all trials. Compared to untreated wheat seeds, the root rot severity index was decreased significantly (P?相似文献

Twenty fungicides were screened for their abilities to reduce the saprophytic growth of Rhizoctonia solani on agar and in soil, and to control root rot of wheat (Triticum aestivum) in pots of soil. Thirteen showed some activity against the in vitro growth of R. solani, the most promising being Sandoz 619F and flutolanil, although none of these reduced saprophytic growth of the fungus in soil. Only benomyl and thiabendazole, which were ineffective on agar and against disease in pots, reduced saprophytic growth in soil. None of the fungicides reduced the number of plants infected in the pot experiments and only six (flutriafol, diniconazole, Schering 539865, propiconazole, Bayer HWG1608 and flutolanil) of the thirteen active on agar (+ triadimefon which was not) reduced root rot severity. The results of this study indicate the differing reactions towards R. solani of chemicals in the three screening tests and confirm the potential for chemical control of rhizoctonia root rot of wheat.  相似文献

Soil born fungi such as Phytium ultimum, Fusarium ssp., and Rhizoctonia solani (Kühn) severely restrict stand establishment of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) on acid soils of the Tropics. Calcium application is known to alleviate fungal infection in many legumes but the causes are still unclear. To investigate environmental factors and physiological mechanisms involved, growth chamber experiments were conducted with an acid sandy soil from Mexico. Treatments were soil liming at a rate of 0.67 g Ca(OH)2 kg-1, gypsum application at 0.49 g CaSO4 2H2O kg-1 soil placed around the seed, and an untreated control. Beans were grown under three temperature regimes with constant night and one constant day vs. two sinusoidal day temperatures. To examine patterns of seed and seedling exudation at regular intervals leachates of germinating seeds were collected on filter paper soaked with equilibrium solutions from soils of the three treatments. The severity of root rot in the control treatment was highest when plants were stressed by temperature extremes. At a sinusoidal day temperature peaking at 40°C soil liming and gypsum application to the seed increased the number of healthy seedlings similarly by over 60%. However, only liming which effectively eliminated growth constraints by low pH and high aluminum concentrations led to an increase in hypocotyl elongation by 22% and in total root length by 8%. Both calcium amendments increased the calcium and potassium contents in the hypocotyl tissue. From seeds exposed to the equilibrium solution of unlimed soil with pH 3.7, 1 mM Ca, and 0.6 mM Al considerable amounts of amino acids and carbohydrates were leached. In contrast, exposure to the equilibrium solution from limed soil with pH 4.3, 3 mM Ca, and negligible concentrations of Al led to a net uptake of amino acids and decreased leaching of carbohydrates. Exposure to the equilibrium solution of the gypsum treatment with pH 3.6, 20 mM Ca, and 1.2 mM Al resulted in a somewhat smaller net uptake of amino acids compared to liming. During germination pH around the seeds steeply increased in the untreated control but significantly less with both amendments. The results indicate that pH and the Ca/Al ratio in the soil solution around bean seeds determine their pattern of exudation and solute uptake. For bean germination and early growth on acid soils locally placed application of small amounts of gypsum as seed pelleting seems as effective as soil liming in reducing the incidence of root rot. The results indicate that this may be accomplished by decreasing the amount of leachates available for fungal development.  相似文献

Abstract

Phytophthora root rot is one of the most important diseases in almost all hydrangeas of nursery production. In this study, the efficacy of fungicides and biocontrol products against Phytophthora root rot of hydrangea was assessed in greenhouse and field experiments. Treatments used in field or greenhouse experiments were RootShield PLUS+, MBI110, IT-5103, Grotab, OxiPhos, TerraClean 5.0?+?TerraGrow program, Segovis, Pageant Intrinsic, Empress Intrinsic and Subdue Maxx. Pots/plots were inoculated with Phytophthora nicotianae grown on rice grains, sterilised rice grains were used for negative controls. After the trials, plant growth data (total plant weight, root weight, plant height, plant width) were recorded, and roots were assessed for disease severity using a scale of 0–100%. The treatments most effective in reducing Phytophthora root rot severity were Segovis, Empress Intrinsic, Subdue Maxx, TerraClean 5.0?+?TerraGrow program in both greenhouse and field experiments. This study will help nursery producers make proper management decisions by using recommended fungicides and biocontrol products of this study in a rotation or alone to manage Phytophthora root rot of hydrangea.  相似文献

Various seed dressing and soil application formulations were developed from Trichoderma viride, T. virens and T. harzianum to increase the shelf life of bio-formulations used to manage dry root rot (Rhizoctonia bataticola) of mungbean (Vigna radiata), a major yield limiting factor in mungbean production. The shelf life of the formulations developed in the present study was monitored by counting colony forming units (cfu) up to 25 months of storage at room temperature (26 ± 8 °C). A newly developed seed dressing formulation, Pusa 5SD based on peat powder (47.5%), Sabudana powder (Manihot esculenta) (47.5%) and carboxymethyl cellulose (5%) and a newly developed soil application formulation, Pusa Biopellet (PBP) based on sodium alginate, aluminium silicate, Sabudana powder and tap water (1:5:5:100 w/w/w/v) exhibited longer shelf life. Another formulation Pusa Biogranule (PBG) based on wheat and pulse brans varied in cfu counts during different periods of storage. Pusa 5SD could be used up to 25 months of storage while PBP 10G and PBG 5 could be used up to 15 months of storage (>105 cfu). The efficacy of the formulations was evaluated in pot experiments against the disease. In these experiments, T. harzianum based PBP 10G and PBG 5 for soil application, and Pusa 5SD for seed treatment were found to be superior to others in reducing the dry root rot incidence, and increasing the seed germination and shoot and root lengths. However, a combination of soil application of PBP 10G (T. harzianum) and seed treatment with T. harzianum based Pusa 5SD + carboxin was found superior to the use of any of these formulations alone in reducing the dry root rot incidence (87.2%) and increasing the seed germination (43.0%), shoot length (40.3%), root length (37.0%) and grain yield (54.6%) of mungbean crop over those of untreated control under sick field conditions.  相似文献

Zinc deficiency is an important limiting factor in sustainable crop production and is a factor often overlooked in determining the benefits and overall success of alfalfa pastures in rotations. A field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of zinc and alfalfa cultivars on nodulation, herbage yield, leaf drop and disease severity (Phytophthora root rot disease and common leaf spot disease) in alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.). Ten cultivars of alfalfa (Hunter River, Hunterfield, Sceptre Aurora, Genesis, Aquarius, Venus (Y8622), PL69, P5929 and PL34HQ) were tested at two levels of zinc (+Zn: 4 kg ha–1, -Zn: no zinc added) on a Zn-deficient soil (DTPA zinc of top 0–15 cm soil was 0.4 mg kg–1 soil, while 15–30 cm subsoil Zn was 0.1 mg kg–1 soil) under field conditions. Zinc application significantly increased number and dry weight of nodules, herbage yield and leaf to stem ratio of alfalfa plants. There was a significant reduction in leaf drop, and occurrence of Phytophthora root rot (caused by fungus Phytophthora megasperma f. sp. medicaginis) and common leaf spot (caused by fungus Pseudopeziza medicaginis) diseases with Zn application. Alfalfa cultivars had a differential response to low Zn. Hunter River and Hunterfield were the most affected by omitting zinc application, while Sceptre, PL34HQ and Aquarius were comparatively less affected. The present study suggest that Zn nutrition effects nodulation, leaf drop, disease occurrence and production potential of alfalfa. The alfalfa cultivars have differential ability to low Zn supply. Growing of Zn-efficient cultivars and adequate Zn nutrition may also improve the N2-fixation by alfalfa on low-Zn soils.  相似文献

Five formulations of four benzimidazole derived fungicides, carbendazim, benomyl, thiophanate methyl and methyl 4-[2-(2-dimethylamino acetamide) phenyl]-3-thioallophanate were compared for their toxicity towards two pathogenic isolates of Rhizoctonia solani and three of R. bataticola. The isolates of two fungi showed significant differences in mycelial growth inhibition by the five fungicides. Benomyl and carbendazim were most inhibitory to all isolates of both fungi while the sesame isolate of R. bataticola was least sensitive to all fungicides. Disease control (90%) was obtained with low concentrations of benomyl against root rot of cowpea caused by R. solani, and with thiophanate methyl against root rot of sesame and sunflower, and leaf blight of mung bean caused by R. bataticola. The spread of stalk-end rot of sunflower heads was best checked with a spray of thiophanate methyl. The results suggest that benzimidazole fungicides having similar toxophores act differently for disease control in different host-parasite combinations.  相似文献

The effects of seed dressing, sowing date and cultivar on incidence and severity of downy mildew of pearl millet induced by Sclerospora graminicola and yield were studied in a two-year field trial conducted at the Research farm of University of Maiduguri. The millet cultivars, Ex-Borno, SOSAT-C88, GB 8735 and Gwagwa were each dressed with metalaxyl at 0.75 and 1.50 g a.i./kg seed; and a batch of undressed seeds of each cultivar served as control. Both dressed and undressed seeds were used for dry-planting and wet-planting in early and late seasons. The results showed that seed dressing with the fungicides significantly (p ≤ 0.05) reduced the incidence and severity of downy mildew and increased grain yield. Dry-planting also significantly (p ≤ 0.01) increased grain yield irrespective of disease incidence. Delay in sowing led to a significant reduction in incidence and severity of downy mildew. Differences between the cultivars in relation to incidence and severity of downy mildew and grain yield were significant. SOSAT-C88 developed low or no downy mildew in both seasons. Sowing of dressed SOSAT-C88 as soon as rainfall established appeared most beneficial in the control of downy mildew. Dry- or wet-planting Ex-Borno dressed with any of the metalaxyl formulations proved to be effective for downy mildew management and for high yield.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to investigate differences among genotypes in post-anthesis root growth and distribution of modern UK winter wheat cultivars, and the effects of fungicide applications. Post-anthesis root growth of up to six cultivars of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), given either one or three applications of fungicide, was studied in field experiments during two seasons. Total root mass remained unchanged between GS63 (anthesis) and GS85, but root length increased significantly from 14.7 to 31.4 km m−2 in one season. Overall, there was no evidence for a decline in either root mass or length during grain filling. Root mass as a proportion of total plant mass was about 0.05 at GS85. There were significant differences among cultivars in root length and mass especially below 30 cm. Malacca had the smallest root length and Savannah the largest, and Shamrock had a significantly larger root system below 40 cm in both seasons. Fungicide applied at ear emergence had no significant effect on root mass in either season but increased root length (P<0.01) in the more disease-prone season. By maintaining a green canopy for longer, fungicide applied at flag leaf emergence may have resulted in delayed senescence of the root system and contributed to the post-anthesis maintenance of root mass and length. Fusarium moniliforme Sheldon is an economically important pathogen of corn (Zea mays L.) which causes stalk, root and ear rot. Several mycotoxins have also been isolated, identified and implicated in both animal and human toxicoses. The fungus can be disseminated in symptomless corn seed and can also survive in crop residues in the soil. Asymptomatic infection may be related to different corn cultivars, fungal strains, and environmental factors. Symptomatic expression of pathogenicity may vary, but usually the result of such infections is death of the plant. The greatest concern is the asymptomatic infection, since it is in this form that fungal toxins may surreptitiously enter animal and human food chains. F. moniliforme produces both fusaric acid, which is phytotoxic to corn and interferes with seed germination, and plant growth regulators that may affect pathogenicity of the fungus or be associated with the production of mycotoxins. Other metabolites, including fusarin C, moniliformin, and the fumonisins, may or may not be phytotoxic, but are associated with animal and human toxicoses. The control of F. moniliforme in corn is therefore quite important. One potential means to accomplish this reduction is biocontrol by the application of antagonistic rhizobacteria to corn kernels at planting. To be effective the bacteria must be able to colonize the corn root system and be able to prevent root infection by successful competing with F. moniliforme which may be accomplished by siderophore and or antibiotic activity.  相似文献

Activity of nine fungicides against mycelial growth ofRhizoctonia solani in potato dextrose broth and in pot tests as seed treatment against cowpea seedling rot in infested soil was differentially in fluenced by clay minerals, humic acid and micronutrients. Humic acid, extracted from farmyard manure, considerably lowered the activity, bothin vitro andin vivo, of all fungicides except chloroneb. Montmorillonite caused substantial decrease in disease control by fungicides but enhanced the toxicity of 2-methoxyethyl mercury chloride (MEMC), and quintozene in culture. Kaolinite inactivated carbendazim, benomyl and thiophanatemethyl in nutrient broth but had little effect on disease control by these fugicides. The six micronutrients altered the activity of fungicides to varying levels often without definite correlation betweenin vitro andin vivo results. The results ofin vitro growth inhibition tests are largely inapplicable to dieseas control tests in infested soil mainly due to the differences in the ambient conditions of the two systems.  相似文献

Fusarium root rot (Fusarium spp.) is one of the most important seedling diseases of coneflower (Echinacea spp.) in Alberta greenhouses. Effects of microbial antagonists (Trichoderma spp.) and fungicides, including difenoconazole, fludioxonil, and a mixture of fludioxonil, metalaxyl and difenoconazole, on the management of this disease, were investigated in Alberta. Twenty Trichoderma isolates demonstrated antagonistic activity to Fusarium in agar plate bioassays, with inhibition rates ranging from 44 to 65%. Some Trichoderma isolates significantly ( p < 0.05) reduced disease incidence and severity on seedlings in greenhouse experiments. An in vitro bioassay indicated that difenoconazole and the mixture equally inhibited the growth of both Fusarium and Trichoderma, but, while fludioxonil strongly inhibited the growth of Fusarium, it had little effect on Trichoderma, according to the dose--response models developed ( p < 0.01, R2= 0.902-0.998). Two Trichoderma isolates, T1 and T13 were applied singly or in combination with a low rate of fludioxonil in greenhouse evaluations. The results suggested that fludioxonil and Trichoderma could be integrated into a disease management program for fusarium root rot in coneflower.  相似文献
