The Upper Ordovician Montoya Group in southern New Mexico and westernmost Texas records predominantly subtidal deposition on a gently dipping carbonate ramp that was subsequently nearly entirely dolomitized. The medial unit of the Montoya Group, the Aleman Formation is unique because it contains abundant chert (10–70% by volume). The chert occurs as: (1) thin continuous beds of sponge spicules within mudstone or calcisiltite; (2) discontinuous, lenses or nodules within skeletal wackestones and packstones; or (3) as a replacement of skeletal grains and burrows. Coeval skeletal grainstones and muddy peritidal facies contain little chert. Phosphate (up to 5 wt.%) occurs within the underlying Upham Formation and the Aleman Formation as replacement of fossils and peloids. The abundance of chert and phosphate in these subtidal facies indicates they formed within a region of strong upwelling. Regional correlation with Upper Ordovician cherty units along the periphery of southern Laurentia and other low latitude continents suggests that upwelling was widespread and long-lived during the Late Ordovician. The upwelling is interpreted to record vigorous oceanic circulation produced by the onset of glaciation on Gondwana during this period. Late Ordovician relative sea-level curves around the periphery of Laurentia indicate correlative third-order (1–3 my duration) fluctuations that may provide a means for high-resolution global correlations. However, the mechanism(s) that produced these long-term fluctuations are unclear.  相似文献

The Monorakinae is a subfamily of the Pterygometopidae characterised by the fusion of L2 and L3 in the glabella. The resulting bicomposite lobe is expanded backwards to reach the occipital furrow, displacing L1 from contact with the axial furrow and causing the realignment of S1 to a markedly oblique orientation. The bicomposite lobe is commonly bounded adaxially by a longitudinal furrow containing three pairs of apodemal pits. The Monorakinae was probably derived from the Pterygometopinae, and includes the genera and subgenera Monorakos , Carinopyge , Ceratevenkaspis , Elasmaspis , Evenkaspis ( Evenkaspis ) and E . ( Parevenkaspis ), of which Carinopyge , Elasmaspis and Evenkaspis ( Parevenkaspis ) are known only from limited parts of the exoskeleton. Monorakines have a stratigraphical range of Caradoc–Ashgill. Their known geographical distribution in the Siberian Platform, Taimyr, the Russian Far East, and the Seward Peninsula of Alaska is restricted to areas that in the Ordovician were part of the palaeocontinents of Siberia and Arctida, which must have been connected or situated close together at that time. The occurrence of monorakines in the Taimyr Peninsula but their absence from Baltica does not support the suggestion of some workers that Taimyr was part of Baltica in the Ordovician.  相似文献

The changeable biogeography of the Ordovician is reviewed, quantitatively analysed and used to assess possible positions and relative movements of the continental plates. Plate boundaries are defined as precisely as possible using geological and palaeontological data. The trilobites, corals, brachiopods, cephalopods, echinoderms, graptolites and ostracods are found to be useful in defining plate boundaries and relative plate movements. Oceanic barriers are considered to be the simplest explanation for the maintenance of faunal provincialisms. The faunal barriers between South America and Africa and between Australia and Gondwanaland may have been climatic and land barriers. The present Asian continent is divided into Kazakhstan, the Siberian Platform, South Asian, Northern China, India and the Jano-Kolymian block. These areas had different faunal histories and are considered to have had different drift histories. The North China and South Asian plates were separated by the Tsinling Ocean, the Northern European plate from the North American plate by Wilson's Proto-Atlantic and the Siberian Platform plate from the Northern European by the Uralian Ocean. Southern and Central Europe are shown to have been joined to Africa and separated from the Northern European plate by a Mid-European Ocean. If Australia is considered as part of an Ordovician Gondwanaland then the best explanation for the faunal histories of most plates is provided by an anticlockwise rotation of Gondwanaland about the South palaeo-pole.  相似文献

The ostracod assemblages of the Baksian and Dolborian horizons of the Chunya River basin (a right tributary of the Podkamennaya Tunguska River) have been studied. They add essentially the paleontological characteristics of Upper Ordovician deposits of the Siberian Platform. The age of deposits was verified and the studied sections were correlated with the Gaindinskaya 3 reference borehole. Two new genera and 9 new species were described. Images for known ostracod species are given.  相似文献

This paper continues our revision of Yu.L. Pelman’s collection of the superfamily Acrotheloidea (phosphatic brachiopods) and of our own material from the Early–Middle Cambrian of the Siberian Platform. The following representatives of the superfamily Acrotheloidea (order Lingulida, class Linguliformea) are restudied and revised based on new techniques: the genus Botsfordia (family Botsfordiidae Schindewolf, 1955) and the genera Acrothele, Eothele, and Orbithele (family Acrothelidae), which are widespread on the Siberian Platform. Only one out of the three Acrothele species described by Pelman is recognized as a valid species, and one new species of this genus that comprises some part of the brachiopods that Pelman figured and placed in another taxon is described. All these species are described using data on shell microsculpture and microstructure. In addition, the genera Eothele and Orbithele are described for the first time from the Siberian Platform.  相似文献

Billingen (Lower Arenig/Lower Ordovician) sediments of the St. Petersburg region, northwest Russia and the Leba area, northern Poland of the East European Craton yield acritarch assemblages, which are largely homogenous though displaying minor compositional differences that probably reflect a gradient from inner to outer shelf environments. Comparison with coeval acritarch microflora from the Yangtze Platform, South China, shows an overall similarity between Baltoscandian and South Chinese phytoplankton. The widespread uniformity in the fossil microphytoplankton may be related to the extensive global 'evae' sea-level transgression, which characterized the Billingen time. This suggests that during the Tremadoc through early Arenig times, acritarch assemblages displayed essentially an undifferentiated cold-water and oceanic character along the whole margin of Perigondwana in the South, as well as on the South Chinese and Baltic platforms, at middle latitudes (Mediterranean oceanic Realm). Despite this overall similarity, however, some typical taxa of the high-latitude Mediterranean Province (Arbusculidium, Coryphidium and Striatotheca) occur in South China, but are absent in Baltica. This discrepancy is explained as caused by differences in climatic and physiographic conditions that prevailed at the two palaeocontinents at this time. The inferred pattern of oceanic circulation during the Lower Ordovician is consistent with the palynological evidence of a prevailing warmer climate in Baltica than in South China, although the two palaeocontinents occupied the same palaeolatitudinal position.  相似文献

The Late Ordovician paleogeographic changes in the Yangtze Platform indicate a widespread regression and consequent subaerial exposure probably caused by the 'locking up' of substantial amounts of marine waters during the Late Ordovician glaciation. The subsequent rapid paleogeographic changes on the Yangtze Platform during the earliest Silurian suggest a rapid melting of the ice. The relatively cool waters in the partially closed Yangtze basin during the latest Ordovician were replaced by open and warm waters during the earliest Silurian. Sedimentation rates and composition of faunal assemblages underwent marked changes during latest Ordovician and Early Silurian. The continuous and richly fossiliferous Ordovician succession of China (particularly South China) comprises a heterogeneous suite of litho- and bio-facies, which has been a main focus of stratigraphical and palaeontological research in recent years. Among the seven GSSPs established in China, three are within the Ordovician System, and the GSSP of the Darriwilian Stage at Huangnitang, Changshan County, western Zhejiang Province, was the first “golden spike” in China and the first for the Ordovician System. A series of case studies have revealed that: (1) the Ordovician radiation of some fossil groups on the Upper Yangtze Platform (e.g., brachiopods and graptolites) reached their first α-diversity acme in the Didymograptellus eobifidus Biozone, four zones earlier than the global trend; (2) the β-diversity peak was attained 3–4 zones later than the α-diversity peak; (3) many brachiopod communities or faunas first occurred in the central part of the Upper Yangtze Platform and subsequently expanded to both more offshore and near-shore facies; (4) diachroneity existed in many aspects of the radiation. The end-Ordovician mass extinction was a severe event in South China. Two pulses of the extinction are recognized for a number of major fossil groups, some being most strongly affected during the first pulse whereas the others suffered during the second pulse. Macroevolution during the Ordovician–Silurian transition has been investigated in detail, and the role of the Lazarus effect has been found to be less important than previously believed.  相似文献

Both diverse assemblages of small skeletal fossils and a representative chemostratigraphical record make the Siberian Platform widely regarded as one of the key regions for the reconstruction of global biotic and abiotic events in the late Ediacaran and early Cambrian. However, the wide distribution of intertidal–subtidal facies in the Ediacaran–Cambrian transitional strata of the central and southwestern Siberian Platform (Turukhansk–Irkutsk–Olekma facies region) produces a dramatic depletion of the palaeontological record and considerably limits their age‐calibration and long‐distance correlation. We report new lithological, palaeontological and carbonate carbon‐isotope data for the Ediacaran–Cambrian sections of the Turukhansk Uplift (northwestern Siberian Platform, western facies region). These data provide a robust framework for the chemostratigraphical correlation of the western facies region with sections of the transitional and eastern regions of the Siberian Platform and further confirms a depositional hiatus at the base of the Tommotian Stage in the stratotype section (Aldan River, SE Siberia). The carbon‐isotope curve from the Turukhansk Uplift sections correlates positively with the most chemostratigraphically representative Ediacaran–Cambrian sections (Siberia, Morocco, South China). It records major carbon‐isotope oscillations globally recognized in the lower Cambrian, enabling localization of the Fortunian and Cambrian Stage 2 boundaries in the Platonovskaya Formation. Although there is extreme paucity and poor preservation of the small skeletal fossils in the western facies region, we report individual Barskovia, Blastulospongia and chancelloriid sclerites from the Platonovskaya Formation. A combination of palaeontological and chemostratigraphical data suggests the base of P. antiqua Assemblage Zone is located in the middle Platonovskaya Formation. The earliest spiral gastropods probably occurred at ~541 Ma, as demonstrated by the discovery of a specimen of Barskovia near the base of the large negative excursion in the lower Platonovskaya Formation, correlated with the BACE negative carbon‐isotope peak in the sections of the Yangtze Platform.  相似文献

Recent freshwater cyanophyte oncoids from Canandaigua Lake, New York, consist almost entirely of minute irregular, bush-like, micritic masses comparable with the calcareous alga Angulocellularia Vologdin from Lower Cambrian algal-arehaeocyathan bioherms and biostromes of the Siberian Platform and western Mongolia. The Recent specimens arc radially orientated within the oncoids and occasionally contain moulds of axial filaments 15 μm in diameter. Acid-residues of the oncoids yield abundant Schizothrix calcicola. The micritic bush-like masses are interpreted to have formed by the calcification of the sheaths of these cyanophytes. This analogue allows Angulocellularia to be reinterpreted as a calcified oscillatoriacean cyanophyte, rather than a rhodophyte as previously suggested. It indicates that filamentous cyanophytes can produce apparently solid calcareous fossils, not only porostromatc tubes. The occurrence of Angulocellularia has been overlooked in some previous studies of Cambrian and Ordovician bioherms. The generic diagnosis is emended.  相似文献

Iron‐rich nodules occur on the Yangtze Platform, South China, especially along the marginal area, during the late Middle and early Late Ordovician (Darriwilian–Sandbian). Based on the study of samples from the Daling section, Anhui Province, these nodules include: (1) oncoids; (2) coated bioclasts; and (3) coated micritic intraclasts, all of which potentially have a similar biological origin. The nodule‐bearing strata were deposited in a midouter ramp setting, indicating sediment starvation and open marine conditions, possibly combined with anoxia in deeper basinal areas and cool water upwelling during the formation of the nodules, rather than terrestrial input or local tectonic movement. The widespread distribution of iron‐rich nodules at this time was probably favoured by high sea level and cooling climate, conditions that simultaneously favoured the evolutionary radiations of the GOBE in South China. Thus, these nodules form a time‐specific signature of a critical time in the evolution of the marine ecosystem in the context of local environmental background along the marginal Yangtze Platform.  相似文献

Issues associated with newly emerging viruses, their genetic diversity, and viral evolution in modern environments are currently attracting growing attention. In this study, a phylogenetic analysis was performed and the evolution rate was evaluated for such pathogenic flaviviruses endemic to Russia as tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) and Powassan virus (PV). The analysis involved 47 nucleotide sequences of the TBEV genome region encoding protein E and 17 sequences of the PV NS5-encoding region. The nucleotide substitution rate was estimated as 1.4 × 10−4 and 5.4 × 10−5 substitutions per site per year for the E protein-encoding region of the TBEV genome and for the NS5 genome region of PV, respectively. The ratio of non-synonymous to synonymous nucleotide substitutions (dN/dS) in viral sequences was calculated as 0.049 for TBEV and 0.098 for PV. The highest dN/dS values of 0.201–0.220 were found in the subcluster of Russian and Canadian PV strains, and the lowest value of 0.024 was observed in the cluster of Russian and Chinese strains of the Far Eastern TBEV genotype. Evaluation of time intervals between the events of viral evolution showed that the European subtype of TBEV diverged from the common TBEV ancestor approximately 2750 years ago, while the Siberian and Far Eastern subtypes emerged approximately 2250 years ago. The PV was introduced into its natural foci of the Russian Primorskii krai only approximately 70 years ago; these strains were very close to Canadian PV strains. The pattern of PV evolution in North America was similar to the evolution of the Siberian and Far Eastern TBEV subtypes in Asia. The moments of divergence between major genetic groups of TBEV and PV coincide with historical periods of climate warming and cooling, suggesting that climate change was a key factor in the evolution of flaviviruses in past millennia.  相似文献

Seasonal variations in the efficiency of utilization of radiant energy by phytoplankton photosynthesis in a tropical embayment followed the same pattern as that of primary production. showing that incident radiation did not limit phytoplankton production. Peak values in primary production and photosynthetic efficiency coincided with periods of nutrient enrichment caused either by upwelling during the southwest monsoon or by run-off during the northeast, monsoon. A world-wide comparison of published data on photosynthetic efficiencies in different latitudes showed that higher efficiency is achieved in the tropics, where the values are similar to those observed on phytoplankton cultures. Based on the maximum efficiency of photosynthesis attained, three regimes can be recognized in tropical waters: 1) regions of upwelling with a maximum of 6%,. 2) coastal bays with 0.7%, 3) oceanic regions with 0.24%.  相似文献

Trilobites of the suborder Eodiscina from the Lower Cambrian section of the Khorbosuonka River (Siberian Platform, Olenek Uplift) are studied. The stratigraphic distribution of these forms in the section is shown Two new species, Hebediscus sublongus sp. nov. and Korobovia khorbosuonica sp. nov., are described. This is the first occurrence of the genus Korobovia on the Siberian Platform. The new record provides additional data on morphology and expands the paleogeographic range of the genera represented by the newly described species.  相似文献

The problem of emerging viruses, their genetic diversity and viral evolution in nature are attracting more attention. The phylogenetic analysis and evaluationary rate estimation were made for pathogenic flaviviruses such as tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) and Powassan (PV) circulated in natural foci in Russia. 47 nucleotide sequences of encoded protein E of the TBEV and 17 sequences of NS5 genome region of the PV have been used. It was found that the rate of accumulation of nucleotide substitutions for E genome region of TBEV was approximately 1.4 x 10(-4) and 5.4 x 10(-5) substitutions per site per year for NS5 genome region of PV. The ratio of non-synonymous nucleotide substitutions to synonymous substitution (dN/dS) for viral sequences were estimated of 0.049 for TBEV and 0.098 for PV. Maximum value dN/dS was 0.201-0.220 for sub-cluster of Russian and Canadian strains of PV and the minimum - 0.024 for cluster of Russian and Chinese strains of Far Eastern genotype TBEV. Evaluation of time intervals of evolutionary events associated with these viruses showed that European subtype TBEV are diverged from all-TBEV ancestor within approximately 2750 years and the Siberian and Far Eastern subtypes are emerged about 2250 years ago. The PV was introduced into natural foci of the Primorsky Krai of Russia only about 70 years ago and PV is a very close to Canadian strains of PV. Evolutionary picture for PV in North America is similar to evolution of Siberian and Far Eastern subtypes TBEV in Asia. The divergence time for main genetic groups of TBEV and PV are correlated with historical periods of warming and cooling. These allow to propose a hypothesis that climate changes were essential to the evolution of the flaviviruses in the past millenniums.  相似文献

In the Early and Middle Cambrian (of traditional usage), three broad facies belts were developed over the Siberian Platform. The lithofacies belts comprise evaporitic-carbonate, reef-shoal, and open-marine environments.Trilobites assemblages are most diverse in the open-marine lithofacies (Judoma-Olenek facies), represented especially by the Kuonamka Formation, in the eastern part of the platform. Species, genera and families of trilobites gradually increased through the Middle-Cambrian boundary interval in the Kuonamka Formation. Protolenidae dominated in the time represented by the Lermontovia Zone. In strata assigned to the Anabaraspis Zone, the protolenids disappear, the paradoxidids appear, and the diversity of dorypygids increases. The number of trilobite families increases in the Oryctocara and Kounamkites zones.Well represented in the Kuonamka formation of the eastern Siberian Platform are three levels of trilobites that have potential for global correlation. They are the Oryctocephalus reticulatus (=O. indicus latus), Oryctocephalus indicus, and Ovatoryctocara granulatus levels. The Lower-Middle Cambrian boundary in the South China correlates to the lower part of the Kounamkites Zone of the Siberian Platform.  相似文献

During the International Peri-Tethys Program, the realization of the maps required efficient correlation tools. During the Late Paleozoic and particularly during the Wordian (Middle Permian), the Russian Platform was under continental and/or marginal paleoenvironmental conditions. This paper draws up the synthesis of the ostracode species recognized in the Middle-Late Permian in this area, from the Barents Sea up to the Precaspian Depression, and shows their importance as a stratigraphic tool for the correlations of continental series.  相似文献

Taxonomic diversity, structural peculiarities, and occurrence of the Ordovician corals Tabulatoidea, Heliolitoidea, Rugosa, and Cyrtophyllida from the Siberian and Mongolian basins are analyzed. The corals settled in the Siberian basin almost for 1.5 million of years earlier than in the Mongolian basin. First corals in the Siberian basin were found in the lowermost Muktei Horizon (Llanvirn, i.e. Darriwilian Stage) while first corals in the Mongolian basin are known from the lower part of the Bairim Horizon (Late Caradoc, i.e. lower part of the Katian Stage). First corals in both basins belonged to the subclass Tabulatoidea.  相似文献

The Yakuts of northeastern Siberia are a Turkic-speaking population of horse- and cattle-breeders surrounded by Tungusic-speaking reindeer-herders and hunter-gatherers. Archaeological and ethnohistorical data suggest that Yakuts stem from a common ancestral population with the Buryats living near Lake Baikal. To address this hypothesis, we obtained sequences of the first hypervariable segment (HV1) of the mitochondrial DNA control region from Yakuts and Buryats and compared these with sequences from other Eurasian populations. The mtDNA results show that the Buryats have close affinities with both Central Asian Turkic groups and Mongols, while the Yakuts have close affinities with northeastern Siberian, Tungusic-speaking Evenks and south Siberian, Turkic-speaking Tuvans. This different ancestry of the Yakuts and the Tuvans (compared with other Turkic-speaking groups) most likely reflects extensive admixture that occurred between Turkic-speaking steppe groups and Evenks as the former migrated into Siberia. Moreover, the Yakuts are unique among Siberian populations in having a high number of haplotypes shared exclusively with Europeans, suggesting, contrary to the historical record, that occasionally Yakut men took Russian women as wives.  相似文献
