The aim of our study is to investigate with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) whether different arterial anastomotic geometries result in a different hemodynamics at the arterial (AA) and venous anastomosis (VA) of hemodialysis vascular access grafts. We have studied a 6mm graft (CD) and a 4-7 mm graft (TG). A validated three-dimensional CFD model is developed to simulate flow in the two graft types. Only the arterial anastomosis (AA) geometry differs. The boundary conditions applied are a periodic velocity signal at the arterial inlet and a periodic pressure wave at the venous outlet. Flow rate is set to 1,000 ml/min. The time dependent Navier-Stokes equations are solved. Wall shear stress (WSS), wall shear stress gradient (WSSG) and pressure gradient (PG) are calculated. Anastomotic flow is asymmetric although the anastomosis geometry is symmetric. The hemodynamic parameters, WSS, WSSG and PG, values at the suture line of the arterial anastomosis of the TG are at least twice as much as in the CD. Comparing the parameters at the two AA indicate that little flow rate increase introduces the risk of hemolysis in the TG whereas the CD is completely free of hemolysis. The hemodynamic parameter values at the venous anastomosis of the CD are 24 till 35% higher compared to the values of the TG. WSS values (> 3 Pa) in the VA are in the critical range for stenosis development in both graft geometries. The zones where the parameters reach extreme values correspond to the locations where intimal hyperplasia formation is reported in literature. In all anastomoses, the hemodynamic parameter levels are in the range where leucocytes and platelets get activated. Our simulations confirm clinical results where TG did not show a better outcome when compared to the CD.  相似文献

为了研究能够长期置入主动脉瓣环的左心室辅助装置,研制出直径21毫米重27克可植入的主动脉瓣膜泵.装置包括一个转子和一个定子.转子由驱动磁钢和叶轮组成;定子装有带铁心的电机线圈和出口导叶.装置被置於主动脉瓣位置,所以不占用额外的解剖空间.血泵能像自然心脏一样直接将血液由心室输送到主动脉,不需要连接管道和旁路,因此对自然生理循环的干扰可以减到最低.血泵流量由最大到零周期变化.血液动力学测试表明,当血泵转速为17500转/分钟时,可以产生流量5升/分钟、压力增益50毫米汞柱的血流;同一转速下,当流量为零时,血泵能保持主动脉舒张压为80毫米汞柱.  相似文献

In conventional electrooptic studies the sample ionic strength must for technical reasons be kept below about 3 mm, which is only 2% of the ionic strength at physiological conditions. In particular for flexible polyelectrolytic macromolecules it can in general not be ruled out that both the conformational average and dynamics at ionic strength 3 mm and below may differ significantly from what it is at physiological conditions. Here we report on the first electrooptic study of human erythroid spectrin dimers and tetramers at ionic strengths higher than 3 mm. All measurements in this study were carried out at both ionic strength 4 mm (2.5 mm HEPES + 1 mm NaCl) and 53 mm (2.5 mm HEPES + 50 mm NaCl). Spectrin tetramers were studied only at 4°C whereas the dimers were studied at both 4 °C and 37°C. At 4°C there is a striking quantitative similarity between the transient electric birefringence (TEB) of spectrin dimers and tetramers. Also, the TEB of spectrin dimers at 37°C was very similar to the results at 4°C. The contour length and the molecular weight of spectrin dimers and tetramers are known. The dominating TEB relaxation time is in all cases only a fraction of what is predicted theoretically if the spectrin dimers and tetramers are assumed to be stiff and extended molecules. In sum, the new TEB data constitute strong electrooptic evidence confirming that spectrin dimers and tetramers have a highly flexible structure, and demonstrate for the first time that a major part of the intrachain dynamics of the spectrin is quite insensitive to an increase of the ionic strength from 4 mm to 53 mm. Use of the reversing electric field pulse technique for all conditions studied yields TEB data suggesting that the orientation of both spectrin dimers and tetramers in an electric field is dominated by a permanent rather than an induced electric dipole moment. This study attempts to compare the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the 40 mm High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) surface resonator at 77 K and the 35 mm commercial quadrature (QD) surface resonator at 300 K in a 3 Tesla (T) MRI imager. To aquire images for the comparison, we implemented a phantom experiment using the 40 mm diameter Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3Ox (Bi-2223) HTS surface resonator, the 35 mm commercial QD surface resonator and the 40 mm professionally-made copper surface resonator. The HTS surface resonator at 77 K provided a 1.43-fold SNR gain over the QD surface resonator at 300 K and provided a 3.84-fold SNR gain over the professionally-made copper surface resonator at 300 K on phantom images. The results agree with the predictions, and the difference between the predicted SNR gains and measured SNR gains is 1%. Although the geometry of the HTS surface resonator is different from the QD surface resonator, its SNR is still higher. The results demonstrate that a higher image quality can be obtained with the HTS surface resonator at 77 K. With the HTS surface resonator, the SNR can be improved, suggesting that the HTS surface resonator is a potentially helpful diagnostic tool for MRI imaging in various applications.  相似文献

The rapid advance in genetic sequencing technologies has provided an unprecedented amount of data on the biodiversity of meiofauna. It was hoped that these data would allow the identification and counting of species, distinguished as tight clusters of similar genomes. Surprisingly, this appears not to be the case. Here, we begin a theoretical discussion of this phenomenon, drawing on an individual-based ecological model to inform our arguments. The determining factor in the emergence (or not) of distinguishable genetic clusters in the model is the product of population size with mutation rate—a measure of the adaptability of the population as a whole. This result suggests that indeed one should not expect to observe clearly distinguishable species groupings in data gathered from ultrasequencing of meiofauna.  相似文献

Summary Smooth feather muscles (mm. pennati) consist of bundles of smooth muscle cells which are attached to the feather follicles by short elastic tendons. In addition, some muscle bundles are interrupted by elastic tendons. The elastic tendon is composed of longitudinally arranged elastic fibers which branch and wavy bundles of collagen fibrils. Smooth muscle cells of the muscle bundles are attached to each other by desmosome-like junctions and by fusion of the basal laminae. The cytoplasm of the muscle cells is characterized by conspicuous thick filaments and abundant thin and intermediate filaments. These are attached to band-like dense patches (dense bands) at the plasma membrane which are particularly broad at the tapering end of the muscle cell. The contact surface between smooth muscle cells and their elastic tendon is considerably increased (i) by deep finger-like invaginations and indentations located at the tapering muscle end, and (ii) by branching of the coarse elastic fibers into slender processes, which are attached to the richly folded surface of the muscle cell endings by peripheral microfibrils. This intimate interlocking closely resembles the myotendinous junctions in skeletal muscle.
