The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of 4 weeks of high-intensity vs. high-volume swim training on lactate threshold (LT) characteristics and performance. Thirteen untrained swimmers with a mean age of 19.0 ± 0.5 undertook an incremental swimming test before and after 4 weeks of training for the determination of LT. Performance was evaluated by a 50-m maximum freestyle test. The swimmers were assigned to 1 of each of 2 training groups. The high-intensity group (n = 6) focused on sprint training (SP) and swam a total of 1,808 ± 210 m. The high-volume group (n = 7) followed the same program as the SP group but swam an additional 1,100 m (38% more) of endurance swimming (SP + End). A training effect was evident in both groups as seen by the similar improvements in sprint performance of the 50-m maximum time (p < 0.01), peak velocity increases and the lower value of lactate at the individual LTs (p < 0.01). Lactate threshold velocity improved only in the SP + End group from 1.20 ± 0.12 m·s(-1) pretraining to 1.32 ± 0.12 m·s(-1) posttraining (p = 0.77, effect size = 1, p < 0.01), expressed by the rightward shifts of the individual lactate-velocity curves, indicating an improvement in the aerobic capacity. Peak lactate and lactate concentrations at LT did not significantly change. In conclusion, this study was able to demonstrate that 4 weeks of either high-intensity or high-volume training was able to demonstrate similar improvements in swimming performance. In the case of lack of significant changes in lactate profiling in response to high-intensity training, we could suggest a dissociation between the 2.  相似文献

We tested the theory that links the capacity to perform prolonged exercise with the size of the muscle tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle intermediate (TCAI) pool. We hypothesized that endurance training would attenuate the exercise-induced increase in TCAI concentration ([TCAI]); however, the lower [TCAI] would not compromise cycle endurance capacity. Eight men (22 +/- 1 yr) cycled at approximately 80% of initial peak oxygen uptake before and after 7 wk of training (1 h/day, 5 days/wk). Biopsies (vastus lateralis) were obtained during both trials at rest, after 5 min, and at the point of exhaustion during the pretraining trial (42 +/- 6 min). A biopsy was also obtained at the end of exercise during the posttraining trial (91 +/- 6 min). In addition to improved performance, training increased (P < 0.05) peak oxygen uptake and citrate synthase maximal activity. The sum of four measured TCAI was similar between trials at rest but lower after 5 min of exercise posttraining [2.7 +/- 0.2 vs. 4.3 +/- 0.2 mmol/kg dry wt (P < 0.05)]. There was a clear dissociation between [TCAI] and endurance capacity because the [TCAI] at the point of exhaustion during the pretraining trial was not different between trials (posttraining: 2.9 +/- 0.2 vs. pretraining: 3.5 +/- 0.2 mmol/kg dry wt), and yet cycle endurance time more than doubled in the posttraining trial. Training also attenuated the exercise-induced decrease in glutamate concentration (posttraining: 4.5 +/- 0.7 vs. pretraining: 7.7 +/- 0.6 mmol/kg dry wt) and increase in alanine concentration (posttraining: 3.3 +/- 0.2 vs. pretraining: 5.6 +/- 0.3 mmol/kg dry wt; P < 0.05), which is consistent with reduced carbon flux through alanine aminotransferase. We conclude that, after aerobic training, cycle endurance capacity is not limited by a decrease in muscle [TCAI].  相似文献

Our laboratory recently showed that six sessions of sprint interval training (SIT) over 2 wk increased muscle oxidative potential and cycle endurance capacity (Burgomaster KA, Hughes SC, Heigenhauser GJF, Bradwell SN, and Gibala MJ. J Appl Physiol 98: 1895-1900, 2005). The present study tested the hypothesis that short-term SIT would reduce skeletal muscle glycogenolysis and lactate accumulation during exercise and increase the capacity for pyruvate oxidation via pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH). Eight men [peak oxygen uptake (VO2 peak)=3.8+/-0.2 l/min] performed six sessions of SIT (4-7x30-s "all-out" cycling with 4 min of recovery) over 2 wk. Before and after SIT, biopsies (vastus lateralis) were obtained at rest and after each stage of a two-stage cycling test that consisted of 10 min at approximately 60% followed by 10 min at approximately 90% of VO2 peak. Subjects also performed a 250-kJ time trial (TT) before and after SIT to assess changes in cycling performance. SIT increased muscle glycogen content by approximately 50% (main effect, P=0.04) and the maximal activity of citrate synthase (posttraining: 7.8+/-0.4 vs. pretraining: 7.0+/-0.4 mol.kg protein -1.h-1; P=0.04), but the maximal activity of 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase was unchanged (posttraining: 5.1+/-0.7 vs. pretraining: 4.9+/-0.6 mol.kg protein -1.h-1; P=0.76). The active form of PDH was higher after training (main effect, P=0.04), and net muscle glycogenolysis (posttraining: 100+/-16 vs. pretraining: 139+/-11 mmol/kg dry wt; P=0.03) and lactate accumulation (posttraining: 55+/-2 vs. pretraining: 63+/-1 mmol/kg dry wt; P=0.03) during exercise were reduced. TT performance improved by 9.6% after training (posttraining: 15.5+/-0.5 vs. pretraining: 17.2+/-1.0 min; P=0.006), and a control group (n=8, VO2 peak=3.9+/-0.2 l/min) showed no change in performance when tested 2 wk apart without SIT (posttraining: 18.8+/-1.2 vs. pretraining: 18.9+/-1.2 min; P=0.74). We conclude that short-term SIT improved cycling TT performance and resulted in a closer matching of glycogenolytic flux and pyruvate oxidation during submaximal exercise.  相似文献

We combined tracer and arteriovenous (a-v) balance techniques to evaluate the effects of exercise and endurance training on leg triacylglyceride turnover as assessed by glycerol exchange. Measurements on an exercising leg were taken to be a surrogate for working skeletal muscle. Eight men completed 9 wk of endurance training [5 days/wk, 1 h/day, 75% peak oxygen consumption (Vo(2peak))], with leg glycerol turnover determined during two pretraining trials [45 and 65% Vo(2peak) (45% Pre and 65% Pre, respectively)] and two posttraining trials [65% of pretraining Vo(2peak) (ABT) and 65% of posttraining Vo(2peak) (RLT)] using [(2)H(5)]glycerol infusion, femoral a-v sampling, and measurement of leg blood flow. Endurance training increased Vo(2peak) by 15% (45.2 +/- 1.2 to 52.0 +/- 1.8 mlxkg(-1)xmin(-1), P < 0.05). At rest, there was tracer-measured leg glycerol uptake (41 +/- 8 and 52 +/- 15 micromol/min for pre- and posttraining, respectively) even in the presence of small, but significant, net leg glycerol release (-68 +/- 19 and -50 +/- 13 micromol/min, respectively; P < 0.05 vs. zero). Furthermore, while there was no significant net leg glycerol exchange during any of the exercise bouts, there was substantial tracer-measured leg glycerol turnover during exercise (i.e., simultaneous leg muscle uptake and leg release) (uptake, release: 45% Pre, 194 +/- 41, 214 +/- 33; 65% Pre, 217 +/- 79, 201 +/- 84; ABT, 275 +/- 76, 312 +/- 87; RLT, 282 +/- 83, 424 +/- 75 micromol/min; all P < 0.05 vs. corresponding rest). Leg glycerol turnover was unaffected by exercise intensity or endurance training. In summary, simultaneous leg glycerol uptake and release (indicative of leg triacylglyceride turnover) occurs despite small or negligible net leg glycerol exchange, and furthermore, leg glycerol turnover can be substantially augmented during exercise.  相似文献

Few studies have compared the relative benefits of moderate- vs. higher intensity exercise training on improving insulin sensitivity in older people while holding exercise volume constant. Healthy older (73 +/- 10 yr) women (N = 25) who were inactive, but not obese, were randomized into one of three training programs (9-mo duration): 1) high-intensity [80% peak aerobic capacity (V(O2)peak); T(H)] aerobic training; 2) moderate-intensity (65% V(O2)peak; T(M)) aerobic training; or 3) low-intensity (stretching) placebo control (50% V(O2)peak); C(TB)). Importantly, exercise volume (300 kcal/session) was held constant for subjects in both the T(H) and the T(M) groups. V(O2)peak was determined by using a graded exercise challenge on a treadmill. Total body fat and lean mass were determined with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. The rate of insulin-stimulated glucose utilization as well as the suppression of lipolysis were determined approximately 72 h after the final exercise bout by using a two-step euglycemic-hyperinsulinemic clamp. We observed improved glucose utilization at the higher insulin dose with training, but these improvements were statistically significant only in the T(H) (21%; P = 0.02) compared with the T(M) (16%; P = 0.17) and C(TB) (8%; P = 0.37) groups and were observed without changes in either body composition or V(O2)peak. Likewise in the T(H) group, we detected a significant improvement in insulin-stimulated suppression (%) of adipose tissue lipolysis at the low-insulin dose (38-55%, P < 0.05). Our findings suggest that long-term higher intensity exercise training provides more enduring benefits to insulin action compared with moderate- or low-intensity exercise, likely due to greater transient effects.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of strenuous endurance training on day-to-day changes in oxygen uptake (VO2) on-kinetics (time constant) at the onset of exercise. Four healthy men participated in strenuous training for 30 min.day-1, 6 days.week-1 for 3 weeks. The VO2 was measured breath-by-breath every day except Sunday at exercise intensities corresponding to the lactate threshold (LT) and the onset of blood lactate accumulation (OBLA) which were obtained before training. Furthermore, an incremental exercise test was performed to determine LT, OBLA and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) before and after the training period and every weekend. The 30-min heavy endurance training was performed on a cycle ergometer 5 days.week-1 for 3 weeks. Another six men served as the control group. After training, significant reductions of the VO2 time constant for exercise at the pretraining LT exercise intensity (P less than 0.05) and at OBLA exercise intensity (P less than 0.01) were observed, whereas the VO2 time constants in the control group did not change significantly. A high correlation between the decrease in the VO2 time constant and training day was observed in exercise at the pretraining LT exercise intensity (r = -0.76; P less than 0.001) as well as in the OBLA exercise intensity (r = -0.91; P less than 0.001). The effects of concurrent hypoxic/endurance training on mitochondrial respiration in permeabilized fibers in trained athletes were investigated. Eighteen endurance athletes were divided into two training groups: normoxic (Nor, n = 8) and hypoxic (H, n = 10). Three weeks (W1-W3) of endurance training (5 sessions of 1 h to 1 h and 30 min per week) were completed. All training sessions were performed under normoxic [160 Torr inspired Po(2) (Pi(O(2)))] or hypoxic conditions ( approximately 100 Torr Pi(O(2)), approximately 3,000 m) for Nor and H group, respectively, at the same relative intensity. Before and after the training period, an incremental test to exhaustion in normoxia was performed, muscle biopsy samples were taken from the vastus lateralis, and mitochondrial respiration in permeabilized fibers was measured. Peak power output (PPO) increased by 7.2% and 6.6% (P < 0.05) for Nor and H, respectively, whereas maximal O(2) uptake (Vo(2 max)) remained unchanged: 58.1 +/- 0.8 vs. 61.0 +/- 1.2 ml.kg(-1).min(-1) and 58.5 +/- 0.7 vs. 58.3 +/- 0.6 ml.kg(-1).min(-1) for Nor and H, respectively, between pretraining (W0) and posttraining (W4). Maximal ADP-stimulated mitochondrial respiration significantly increased for glutamate + malate (6.27 +/- 0.37 vs. 8.51 +/- 0.33 mumol O(2).min(-1).g dry weight(-1)) and significantly decreased for palmitate + malate (3.88 +/- 0.23 vs. 2.77 +/- 0.08 mumol O(2).min(-1).g dry weight(-1)) in the H group. In contrast, no significant differences were found for the Nor group. The findings demonstrate that 1) a 3-wk training period increased the PPO at sea level without any changes in Vo(2 max), and 2) a 3-wk hypoxic exercise training seems to alter the intrinsic properties of mitochondrial function, i.e., substrate preference.  相似文献

To elucidate the potential limitations on maximal human quadriceps O2 capacity, six subjects trained (T) one quadriceps on the single-legged knee extensor ergometer (1 h/day at 70% maximum workload for 5 days/wk), while their contralateral quadriceps remained untrained (UT). Following 5 wk of training, subjects underwent incremental knee extensor tests under normoxic (inspired O2 fraction = 21%) and hyperoxic (inspired O2 fraction = 60%) conditions with the T and UT quadriceps. Training increased quadriceps muscle mass (2.9 +/- 0.2 to 3.1 +/- 0.2 kg), but did not change fiber-type composition or capillary density. The T quadriceps performed at a greater peak power output than UT, under both normoxia (101 +/- 10 vs. 80 +/- 7 W; P < 0.05) and hyperoxia (97 +/- 11 vs. 81 +/- 7 W; P < 0.05) without further increases with hyperoxia. Similarly, thigh peak O2 consumption, blood flow, vascular conductance, and O2 delivery were greater in the T vs. the UT thigh (1.4 +/- 0.2 vs. 1.1 +/- 0.1 l/min, 8.4 +/- 0.8 vs. 7.2 +/- 0.8 l/min, 42 +/- 6 vs. 35 +/- 4 ml x min(-1) x mmHg(-1), 1.71 +/- 0.18 vs. 1.51 +/- 0.15 l/min, respectively) but were not enhanced with hyperoxia. Oxygen extraction was elevated in the T vs. the UT thigh, whereas arteriovenous O2 difference tended to be higher (78 +/- 2 vs. 72 +/- 4%, P < 0.05; 160 +/- 8 vs. 154 +/- 11 ml/l, respectively; P = 0.098) but again were unaltered with hyperoxia. In conclusion, the present results demonstrate that the increase in quadriceps muscle O2 uptake with training is largely associated with increases in blood flow and O2 delivery, with smaller contribution from increases in O2 extraction. Furthermore, the elevation in peak muscle blood flow and vascular conductance with endurance training seems to be related to an enhanced vasodilatory capacity of the vasculature perfusing the quadriceps muscle that is unaltered by moderate hyperoxia.  相似文献

Twenty-two male and female subjects trained for 7 wk for endurance (group E), for strength (group IS), or for both strength and endurance (group C) to evaluate the effect of concurrent performance of both modes of training on the in vivo force-velocity relationship of human muscle and on aerobic power. Endurance training consisted of five 5-min sessions three times a week on cycle ergometer with a work load that approached the subject's peak cycle-ergometer O2 uptake (peak CE VO2). Strength training consisted of two 30-s sets of maximal knee extensions per day performed on an isokinetic dynamometer three times a week at a velocity of 4.19 rad X s-1. Group C performed the same training as groups IS and E, alternating days of strength and endurance training. Subjects (groups C and IS) were tested pre- and posttraining for maximal knee-extension torque at a specific joint angle (0.52 rad below horizontal) for seven specific angular velocities (0, 0.84, 1.68, 2.81, 3.35, 4.19, and 5.03 rad X s-1). Groups C and E were tested for peak CE VO2 pretraining, at 14-day intervals, and posttraining. Group IS showed significant increases in angle-specific maximal torque at velocities up to and including the training speed (4.19 rad X s-1). Group C showed increases (P less than 0.05) at velocities of 0, 0.84, and 1.68 rad X s-1 only. Respiratory muscle fatigue develops during exhaustive exercise and can limit exercise performance. Respiratory muscle training, in turn, can increase exercise performance. We investigated whether respiratory muscle endurance training (RMT) reduces exercise-induced inspiratory and expiratory muscle fatigue. Twenty-one healthy, male volunteers performed twenty 30-min sessions of either normocapnic hyperpnoea (n = 13) or sham training (CON, n = 8) over 4-5 wk. Before and after training, subjects performed a constant-load cycling test at 85% maximal power output to exhaustion (PRE(EXH), POST(EXH)). A further posttraining test was stopped at the pretraining duration (POST(ISO)) i.e., isotime. Before and after cycling, transdiaphragmatic pressure was measured during cervical magnetic stimulation to assess diaphragm contractility, and gastric pressure was measured during thoracic magnetic stimulation to assess abdominal muscle contractility. Overall, RMT did not reduce respiratory muscle fatigue. However, in subjects who developed >10% of diaphragm or abdominal muscle fatigue in PRE(EXH), fatigue was significantly reduced after RMT in POST(ISO) (inspiratory: -17 +/- 6% vs. -9 +/- 10%, P = 0.038, n = 9; abdominal: -19 +/- 10% vs. -11 +/- 11%, P = 0.038, n = 9), while sham training had no significant effect. Similarly, cycling endurance in POST(EXH) did not improve after RMT (P = 0.071), while a significant improvement was seen in the subgroup with >10% of diaphragm fatigue after PRE(EXH) (P = 0.017), but not in the sham training group (P = 0.674). However, changes in cycling endurance did not correlate with changes in respiratory muscle fatigue. In conclusion, RMT decreased the development of respiratory muscle fatigue during intensive exercise, but this change did not seem to improve cycling endurance.  相似文献

We investigated the effect of endurance training on whole body substrate, glucose, and glycerol utilization during 90 min of exercise at 60% peak O2 consumption (VO2(peak)) in males and females. Substrate oxidation was determined before and after 7 wk of endurance training on a cycle ergometer, with posttesting performed at the same absolute (ABS, W) and relative (REL, VO2(peak)) intensities. [6,6-2H]glucose and [1,1,2,3,3-2H]glycerol tracers were used to calculate the respective substrate tracee flux. Endurance training resulted in an increase in VO2(peak) for both males and females of 17 and 22%, respectively (P < 0.001). Females demonstrated a lower respiratory exchange ratio (RER) both pretraining and posttraining compared with males during exercise (P < 0.001). Glucose rate of appearance (R(a)) and rate of disappearance (R(d)) were not different between males and females. Glucose metabolic clearance rate (MCR) was lower at 75 and 90 min of exercise for females compared with males (P < 0.05). Glucose R(a) and R(d) were lower during exercise at both ABS and REL posttraining exercise intensities compared with pretraining (P < 0.001). Females had a higher exercise glycerol R(a) and R(d) compared with males both pre- and posttraining (P < 0.001). Glycerol R(a) was not different at either the ABS or REL posttraining exercise intensities compared with pretraining. We concluded that females oxidize proportionately more lipid and less carbohydrate during exercise compared with males both pre- and posttraining, which was cotemporal with a higher glycerol R(a) in females. Furthermore, endurance training resulted in a decrease in glucose flux at both ABS and REL exercise intensities after endurance exercise training.  相似文献

Endurance exercise training promotes a small but significant increase in antioxidant enzyme activity in the costal diaphragm (DIA) of rodents. It is unclear if these training-induced improvements in muscle antioxidant capacity are large enough to reduce oxidative stress during prolonged contractile activity. To test the hypothesis that training-related increases in DIA antioxidant capacity reduces contraction-induced lipid peroxidation, we exercise trained adult female Sprague-Dawley (n = 7) rats on a motor-driven treadmill for 12 weeks at approximately 75% maximal O2 consumption (90 min/day). Control animals (n = 8) remained sedentary during the same 12-week period. After training, DIA strips from animals in both experimental groups were excised and subjected to an in vitro fatigue contractile protocol in which the muscle was stimulated for 60 min at a frequency of 30 Hz, every 2 s, with a train duration of 330 m. Compared to the controls, endurance training resulted in an increase (P < 0.05) in diaphragmatic non-protein thiols and in the activity of the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase. Following the contractile protocol, lipid peroxidation was significantly lower (P < 0.05) in the trained DIA compared to the controls. These data support the hypothesis that endurance exercise training-induced increases in DIA antioxidant capacity protect the muscle against contractile-related oxidative stress.  相似文献

To evaluate the effects of endurance training on the expression of monocarboxylate transporters (MCT) in human vastus lateralis muscle, we compared the amounts of MCT1 and MCT4 in total muscle preparations (MU) and sarcolemma-enriched (SL) and mitochondria-enriched (MI) fractions before and after training. To determine if changes in muscle lactate release and oxidation were associated with training-induced changes in MCT expression, we correlated band densities in Western blots to lactate kinetics determined in vivo. Nine weeks of leg cycle endurance training [75% peak oxygen consumption (VO(2 peak))] increased muscle citrate synthase activity (+75%, P < 0.05) and percentage of type I myosin heavy chain (+50%, P < 0.05); percentage of MU lactate dehydrogenase-5 (M4) isozyme decreased (-12%, P < 0.05). MCT1 was detected in SL and MI fractions, and MCT4 was localized to the SL. Muscle MCT1 contents were consistent among subjects both before and after training; in contrast, MCT4 contents showed large interindividual variations. MCT1 amounts significantly increased in MU, SL, and MI after training (+90%, +60%, and +78%, respectively), whereas SL but not MU MCT4 content increased after training (+47%, P < 0.05). Mitochondrial MCT1 content was negatively correlated to net leg lactate release at rest (r = -0.85, P < 0.02). Sarcolemmal MCT1 and MCT4 contents correlated positively to net leg lactate release at 5 min of exercise at 65% VO(2 peak) (r = 0.76, P < 0.03 and r = 0. 86, P < 0.01, respectively). Results support the conclusions that 1) endurance training increases expression of MCT1 in muscle because of insertion of MCT1 into both sarcolemmal and mitochondrial membranes, 2) training has variable effects on sarcolemmal MCT4, and 3) both MCT1 and MCT4 participate in the cell-cell lactate shuttle, whereas MCT1 facilitates operation of the intracellular lactate shuttle.  相似文献

Although East African black athletes dominate endurance running events, it is unknown whether black and white endurance runners with similar racing ability, matched for training, may differ in their skeletal muscle biochemical phenotype. Thirteen Xhosa (XR) and 13 Caucasian (CR) endurance runners were recruited and matched for 10-km performance, average preferred racing distance (PRD(A)), and training volume. Submaximal and maximal exercise tests were done, and vastus lateralis muscle biopsies were taken. XR were significantly lighter and shorter than CR athletes but had similar maximum oxygen consumption corrected for body weight and peak treadmill speed (PTS). XR had lower plasma lactate concentrations at 80% PTS (P < 0.05) compared with CR. Also, XR had more type IIA (42.4 +/- 9.2 vs. 31.3 +/- 11.5%, P < 0.05) and less type I fibers (47.8 +/- 10.9 vs. 63.1 +/- 13.2%, P < 0.05), although oxidative enzyme activities did not differ. Furthermore, XR compared with CR had higher lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity in homogenate muscle samples (383 +/- 99 vs. 229 +/- 85 mumol.min(-1).g dry weight(-1), P < 0.05) and in both type IIa (P < 0.05) and type I (P = 0.05) single-fiber pools. A marked difference (P < 0.05) in the composition of LDH isoform content was found between the two groups with XR having higher levels of LDH(5-4) isoforms (skeletal muscle isozymes; LDH-M) than CR, which was not accounted for by fiber-type differences alone. These results confirm differences in muscle phenotype and physiological characteristics, particularly associated with high-intensity running.  相似文献

To evaluate the contribution of working muscle to whole body lipid oxidation, we examined the effects of exercise intensity and endurance training (9 wk, 5 days/wk, 1 h, 75% Vo(2 peak)) on whole body and leg free fatty acid (FFA) kinetics in eight male subjects (26 +/- 1 yr, means +/- SE). Two pretraining trials [45 and 65% Vo(2 max) (45UT, 65UT)] and two posttraining trials [65% of pretraining Vo(2 peak) (ABT), and 65% of posttraining Vo(2 peak) (RLT)] were performed using [1-(13)C]palmitate infusion and femoral arteriovenous sampling. Training increased Vo(2 peak) by 15% (45.2 +/- 1.2 to 52.0 +/- 1.8 ml.kg(-1).min(-1), P < 0.05). Muscle FFA fractional extraction was lower during exercise (EX) compared with rest regardless of workload or training status ( approximately 20 vs. 48%, P < 0.05). Two-leg net FFA balance increased from net release at rest ( approximately -36 micromol/min) to net uptake during EX for 45UT (179 +/- 75), ABT (236 +/- 63), and RLT (136 +/- 110) (P < 0.05), but not 65UT (51 +/- 127). Leg FFA tracer measured uptake was higher during EX than rest for all trials and greater during posttraining in RLT (716 +/- 173 micromol/min) compared with pretraining (45UT 450 +/- 80, 65UT 461 +/- 72, P < 0.05). Leg muscle lipid oxidation increased with training in ABT (730 +/- 163 micromol/min) vs. 65UT (187 +/- 94, P < 0.05). Leg muscle lipid oxidation represented approximately 62 and 30% of whole body lipid oxidation at lower and higher relative intensities, respectively. In summary, training can increase working muscle tracer measured FFA uptake and lipid oxidation for a given power output, but both before and after training the association between whole body and leg lipid metabolism is reduced as exercise intensity increases.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to compare the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and repeated-sprint training (RST) on aerobic fitness, tennis-specific endurance, linear and repeated-sprint ability (RSA), and jumping ability. Thirty-one competitive male tennis players took part in a training intervention of 6 weeks. The players were matched into 3 groups, HIIT (n = 11), RST (n = 12), or control group (CON, n = 9). The results showed significant time × intervention interactions for VO(2)peak, with a significant increase in the VO(2)peak level of 6.0% in HIIT (p = 0.008) and 4.9% in RST (p = 0.010), whereas no changes occurred in CON. However, the following differences were found between the intervention groups: The HIIT-induced greater improvements in tennis-specific endurance (HIIT 28.9% vs. RST 14.5%; p < 0.05) and RST led to a significant improvement in RSA (i.e., reduction in the mean sprint time of 3.8%; p < 0.05). Neither training strategy induced any effects on jumping and sprinting abilities. Both training interventions showed similar improvements in general aerobic fitness. Also, the present results suggest that RST represents a time-efficient stimulus for a simultaneous improvement of general and tennis-specific aerobic fitness as well for RSA.  相似文献

It is well known that hyperosmolality suppresses thermoregulatory responses and that plasma osmolality (P(osmol)) increases with exercise intensity. We examined whether the decreased esophageal temperature thresholds for cutaneous vasodilation (TH(FVC)) and sweating (TH(SR)) after 10-day endurance training (ET) are caused by either attenuated increase in P(osmol) at a given exercise intensity or blunted sensitivity of hyperosmotic suppression. Nine young male volunteers exercised on a cycle ergometer at 60% peak oxygen consumption rate (V(O2 peak)) for 1 h/day for 10 days at 30 degrees C. Before and after ET, thermoregulatory responses were measured during 20-min exercise at pretraining 70% V(O2 peak) in the same environment as during ET under isoosmotic or hyperosmotic conditions. Hyperosmolality by approximately 10 mosmol/kgH2O was attained by acute hypertonic saline infusion. After ET, V(O2 peak) and blood volume (BV) both increased by approximately 4% (P < 0.05), followed by a decrease in TH(FVC) (P < 0.05) but not by that in TH(SR). Although there was no significant decrease in P(osmol) at the thresholds after ET, the sensitivity of increase in TH(FVC) at a given increase in P(osmol) [deltaTH(FVC)/deltaP(osmol), degrees C x (mosmol/kgH2O)(-1)], determined by hypertonic infusion, was reduced to 0.021 +/- 0.005 from 0.039 +/- 0.004 before ET (P < 0.05). The individual reductions in deltaTH(FVC)/deltaP(osmol) after ET were highly correlated with their increases in BV around TH(FVC) (r = -0.89, P < 0.005). In contrast, there was no alteration in the sensitivity of the hyperosmotic suppression of sweating after ET. Thus the downward shift of TH(FVC) after ET was partially explained by the blunted sensitivity to hyperosmolality, which occurred in proportion to the increase in BV.  相似文献

This study examined the effect of two different intense exercise training regimens on skeletal muscle ion transport systems, performance, and metabolic response to exercise. Thirteen subjects performed either sprint training [ST; 6-s sprints (n = 6)], or speed endurance training [SET; 30-s runs approximately 130% Vo(2 max), n = 7]. Training in the SET group provoked higher (P < 0.05) plasma K(+) levels and muscle lactate/H(+) accumulation. Only in the SET group was the amount of the Na(+)/H(+) exchanger isoform 1 (31%) and Na(+)-K(+)-ATPase isoform alpha(2) (68%) elevated (P < 0.05) after training. Both groups had higher (P < 0.05) levels of Na(+)-K(+)-ATPase beta(1)-isoform and monocarboxylate transporter 1 (MCT1), but no change in MCT4 and Na(+)-K(+)-ATPase alpha(1)-isoform. Both groups had greater (P < 0.05) accumulation of lactate during exhaustive exercise and higher (P < 0.05) rates of muscle lactate decrease after exercise. The ST group improved (P < 0.05) sprint performance, whereas the SET group elevated (P < 0.05) performance during exhaustive continuous treadmill running. Improvement in the Yo-Yo intermittent recovery test was larger (P < 0.05) in the SET than ST group (29% vs. 10%). Only the SET group had a decrease (P < 0.05) in fatigue index during a repeated sprint test. In conclusion, turnover of lactate/H(+) and K(+) in muscle during exercise does affect the adaptations of some but not all related muscle ion transport proteins with training. Adaptations with training do have an effect on the metabolic response to exercise and specific improvement in work capacity.  相似文献
