Deviations between observed and simulated discharge in the basins along the borders of the Czech Republic with Austria and Germany provide outputs which enable to follow changes in runoff. The three basins range in area from 100 to 200 km2 and the experimental basin Liz with an area of 0.99 km2. The selected experimental catchments are situated in or close to the National Park of the ?umava Mts. This region is described also in Tesa? et al. (2006). Results indicate that changes in runoff appear to be related to damages in forest cover caused by wind disasters and insects damages.Daily time series used for simulations are approximately 40 years long and 20 years in the experimental basin. Two different models of the rainfall — runoff process have been used for simulations and the outputs provide comparable results. The models are the conceptual model Sacramento (Burnash, 1995) and the model BROOK’90 (Federer, 1993). The second model distinguishes the details concerning evapotranspiration, including transpiration, rain and snow interception and snow and soil evaporation. The indicated runoff changes seem to be rather complex. After deforestation the volume of runoff generally increases and peak flows of floods are higher, but low flow in rainless periods show complicated courses.  相似文献

Many authors have referred to the important role of vegetation in the consolidation of salt marsh sediments, but experiments previously carried out by us have shown results that do not always agree with these statements. In other words, the type of salt marsh surface coverage is not the main factor that contributes to the consolidation of sediments. To test this hypothesis different Portuguese salt marsh stations (species/unvegetated areas) from two sites, Tagus estuary (Corroios and Pancas) and Ria de Aveiro (Barra and Verdemilho), were compared to evaluate their influence on suspended matter deposition on the salt marsh surface. A short-term sedimentation study was performed within stands of Spartina maritima, Halimione portulacoides, Sarcocornia perennis subsp. perennis and unvegetated areas, by analysing the deposition of sediment material on nylon filters anchored to the marsh surface. Numerical results obtained from hydrodynamic models coupled to a Lagrangean module implemented for the Ria de Aveiro and the Tagus Estuary, namely the root-mean square velocity (V rms) and residual velocity of tides, were also used. Average sedimentation rates (mean value between the different surface cover in a salt marsh) showed a seasonal trend more or less defined but with significantly different values between sites and salt marshes. Sedimentation rates varied between marshes: there are significant differences between Pancas and the other three marshes, but only significant differences in sedimentation rates between Spartina and Sarcocornia. Despite the important role of vegetation in the consolidation of salt marsh sediments, our results suggest that, the position of stations and related abiotic conditions in the salt marshes are determining factors of variation to take into account in the studies related with the stabilization and survival of salt marshes facing sea level rise. In low-productivity environments such as the tundra, it has been proposed that regular, multi-annual population cycles of lemmings could be driven by winter food depletion in years of peak abundance. If lemming population dynamics is controlled by food resources, we predict that (1) winter grazing should negatively impact the abundance of food plants, (2) this impact should be proportional to lemming density and (3) high lemming winter grazing pressure should result in reduced plant growth during the following summer. We tested these predictions on Bylot Island, Nunavut, Canada, where two species of lemmings are present: the brown (Lemmus trimucronatus) and collared lemming (Dicrostonyx groenlandicus). We installed 16 exclosures in their preferred wintering habitat (snowbeds) and annually sampled plant biomass inside and outside exclosures at snow melt and at peak growth during the summers of 2009–2012, covering a full population cycle. Winter grazing had no impact on total vascular plant or moss biomass at snow melt in all years. Among plant families, only Caryophyllaceae, which was uncommon, showed a decline. In moss taxa, a negative effect was found on Polytrichum in only 1 year out of three. Overall, plant regrowth during the subsequent summer showed annual variation and tended to be reduced in the 2 years of high lemming abundance. However, this could be a consequence of summer grazing. Overall, the impact of lemming winter grazing on plants was weak and short-lived, even in years of high lemming abundance. Therefore, our results are not consistent with the hypothesis that food depletion during winter was the cause of the lemming decline following peak abundance at our study site. Other factors may limit lemming populations and prevent them from reaching densities high enough to exhaust their food resources.  相似文献

The vegetation classification in China was updated by referring to recent advances for vegetation classification worldwide and on the basis of our former paper Recognition and Proposal on the Vegetation Classification System of China (hereafter, "Recognition and Proposal"). In this revision, the criteria for vegetation classification were discussed and unified, and a quantified standard for high, medium, and low level units in a new hierarchical classification scheme was supplemented. Compared with the old classification scheme in "Recognition and Proposal", the units at the level of vegetation type were substantially changed. Finally, in order to improve mutual communication among international peers, a comparison was carried out between the new revised scheme and each of International Classification and Mapping of Vegetation of UNESCO, The National Vegetation Classification Standard of United States, and The Braun-Blanquet Classification Scheme.  相似文献

Ecological practice is telling us that to identify Nature’s rules, we should look for regularities in the resulting effects. Hidden rules are involved and the effects are manifested by compositional, functional, and structural transitions. This paper’s focus is on two conjectures regarding the governance of specific transition components, the first supposedly under global co-ordination, and the second under superimposed site specific instability oscillations. The reality of any apparent regularity in these is the sole condition for the regularity’s acceptance as a rule. Reality is testable but in retrospect only, based on time series analyses. Since long pollen spectra supply the evidence, the time period involved is measured in thousands of years. For maximal usefulness, a spectrum should have a long period length, dated horizons intensely sampled at short time steps, and precisely identified taxa. Period length and time step width matter because both may have a masking effect on the regularities. There is, of course, a natural limit for period length, which is set by the age of the pollen bearing sediments. We completed the analysis of 23 spectra using techniques deemed suitable for testing the conjectures. The spectra originated from sites in the Americas where we found suitable spectra in sufficient numbers and in geographic contiguity from the Arctic region to the Antarctic. The presented results have clear indications that the two conjectures identify real rules. The main body of the paper narrates the analyses and provides explanations. Informative materials, too voluminous for inclusion in the paper, are made available on the Internet at URL: www.vegetationdynamics.com linking to “Appendices Ta”.  相似文献

Road nets are man-made constructions in the open landscape with a specific vegetation accompaniment in a verge or band along the road or in a divider strip. A determination of six basic vegetation types of bands along roads is possible in Central Europe (tree lines, planting area, forest stand, early successful growth, bushes band, grassy-herbal associations). In the Czech Republic, grassy-herbal communities growing on road verges are mainly formed by perennials, hemicryptophyts, and species with tendency towards pollination by insects and to anemochory and exozoochory. 40% woody and 25% herbaceous species which are non-native for Central Europe form a part of them. Three halophyte species are growing in closed lines along asphalt: Puccinellia distans, Digitaria sanguinalis and Spergularia rubra. Roads and highways should be made and used with respect to the ecological potential of roadside vegetation. However, the road net functioned as a corridor for invasive (planting or spreading) plant species.  相似文献

Summary The aim of the study presented here is to determine the relation between the vegetation and the ground water régime in the dune slacks on the island of Voorne. A distinction is made between the spatial and the temporal variation in the vegetation. On the basis of data from a transect the relation between the spatial variation and the water-table is determined. With respect to the temporal variation data recorded on permanent plots were used. Both the variation in space and that in time proved to be related to differences in the ground water régime. The supposition is put forward that the amount of variation in time depends on the height of site relative to the water-table.Contribution to the Symposium of the Working Group on Succession Research on Permanent Plots held at Yerseke, the Netherlands, October 1975.Nomenclature of phanerogams follows Heukels & van Ooststroom 1975, Flora van Nederland, 18e druk Wolters-Noordhoff, Groningen; that of bryophytes Margadant 1959, Mossentabel, 3e druk, Amsterdam. The author is very much indebted to Mr. P.A. O3 concentrations in the troposphere are rising and those in the stratosphere decreasing, the latter resulting in higher fluxes of solar ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation to the earth's surface. We assessed whether the fluxes of CO2 and CH4 are altered by enhanced UV-B radiation or elevated tropospheric O3 concentrations in boreal peatland microcosms (core depth 40 cm, diameter 10.5 cm) with different vegetation cover. At the end of the UV-B experiment which lasted for a growing season, net CO2 exchange (NEE) and dark ecosystem respiration (R TOT) were sevenfold higher, and CH4 efflux 12-fold higher, in microcosms with intact vegetation dominated by Eriophorum vaginatum L. and Sphagnum spp., compared to microcosms from which we removed E. vaginatum. Vegetation treatment had minor effects on CH4 production and consumption potentials in the peat, suggesting that the large difference in CH4 efflux is mainly due to efficient CH4 transport via the aerenchyma of E. vaginatum. Ambient UV-B supplemented with 30% and elevated O3 concentrations (100 and 200 ppb, for 7 weeks) significantly increased R TOT in both vegetation treatments. Elevated O3 concentrations reduced NEE over time, while UV-B had no clear effects on the fluxes of CO2 or CH4 in the cloudy summer of the study. Field experiments are needed to assess the significance of increasing UV-B radiation and elevated tropospheric O3 concentration on peatland gas exchange in the long-term.  相似文献

Nine temperate grass species were screened for their potential to grow in the low-light conditions typical of gaps in dense vegetation. To this end, photosynthetic photon flux densities (PFD) were simulated in a growth chamber (PFD 100, 50 or 25 μmol photons m−2 s−1). Relative and absolute growth rates (RGR and AGR, respectively) of the species were regressed on ten different ecophysiological and morphogenetic plant attributes. No significant relationships were found between plant attributes and relative growth rate, while six attributes explained a significant proportion of the interspecific variance in absolute biomass growth: net photosynthetic rate at growth PFD (P net ) (75.5%), leaf apparent quantum yield of CO2 fixation (62.5%), leaf dark respiration rate (65.2%), leaf compensation PFD (71.0%), root: shoot ratio (66.4%) and plant nitrogen content on a mass basis (42.0%). Only species with extremely low allocation to roots and very high (relatively speaking) net photosynthetic rates were able to grow fast in low light. Specific leaf area (SLA), instantaneous photosynthetic nitrogen use efficiency (PNUE) and leaf nitrogen content on a mass basis as well as on an area basis were not significantly related to growth. The absence of effects of plant traits on RGR, unlike for AGR, could arise from a relationship that we observed between AGR and a fitted start value of the biomass-time course (i.e. seed mass or germination time). This suggests that interspecific differences in the very early growth stages of the plants were responsible for differences in successful development under low light, rather than differences in RGR. Based on its high explanatory power, its relative constancy with plant age and the lack of effect of growth PFD, P net would be the best candidate for characterizing potentially shade-tolerant species that are likely to establish in dense vegetation in the field.  相似文献

Sample sites of `brousse tigrée' and related vegetation types are described for Mali and Niger. Species composition and physical structure of the herbaceous layer as well as woody plant population were recorded at all sites together with data on soils and natural resource management. Herbage yield was measured whereas foliage yield and wood mass were calculated using allometry equation calibrated for each species. `Brousse tigrée' is characterized by the regularly alternating bare-soil stripes with dense linear thickets arranged perpendicularly to the slope. There was no clear superiority in total plant production of `brousse tigrée' when compared to neighbouring site with diffuse vegetation. However, the pattern of `brousse tigrée' tended to favour woody plant yield to the detriment of herbage yield. The number of herbaceous species recorded per site (22–26) was slightly above Sahelian vegetation average despite low number of species per 1-m2 quadrat (6–9), bare soil excluded. This species richness reflects the diversity in edaphic niches resulting from the redistribution and local concentration of water resources and shade. The high spatial heterogeneity and species richness of the herbaceous layer in `brousse tigrée' did not attenuate the interannual variation in herbage yield despite low yields. Except for the herb layer, little evidence was found of grazing influence on the vegetation structure and yield a few hundred metres away from livestock concentration points. On the other hand, the clearing of thickets for cropping led to severe soil erosion which threaten the resilience of `brousse tigrée'. These observations and the well-defined climatic, soiland topographic situations under which the `brousse tigrée' occurs invalidate the hypothesis of an anthropic origin of that vegetationpattern.  相似文献

The syntaxa of the near-natural sand steppes (classFestucetea vaginatae) and their substitutes due to trampling (Chenopodietea) were studied in 1991 during the Ukrainian-Czech expedition to the Birju?ij Island Spit (Azov Sea, Ukraine). Within the allianceFestucion beckeri Vicherek 1972 (classFestucetea vaginatae Soó 1968 emend.Vicherek 1972, orderFestucetalia vaginatae Soó 1957) three associations and five communities without rank are described, covering the vegetation variability along gradients of sand stabilization/soil development and salinization/moisture. Further, two associations of the classChenopodietea, due to deer influence, are described. Four associations (Centaureo odessanae-Stipetum capillatae, Poo bulbosae-Caricetum colchicae, Secali-Cynodontetum dactyli andHeliotropio dolosi-Brometum japonici) are described as new.  相似文献

Presented survey summarizes the results of the studies published predominantly after 2000, dealing with the plant communities around and above the timberline in (montane) subalpine to alpine (subnival) belt of the Western Carpathians. All of these communities underwent a critical syntaxonomical and nomenclatorical revision, hence the demonstrated overview of high-mountain vegetation of Western Carpathians (mostly from Slovakia, less from Poland border areas) represent the current state of knowledge. The high-altitude vegetation database, which is the part of Slovak National Vegetation Database, SNVD (), incorporated 8,160 published relevés on 15 May 2007 (of the total of 30,469 published relevés in the SNVD). Concerning the unpublished relevés, the individual authors have provided more than 18,400 of them to be stored in SNVD; 2,301 of all unpublished relevés could be assigned to high-altitude vegetation. Mountain and alpine vegetation is in SNVD presented by 15 classes; the most frequent class is Mulgedio-Aconitetea. With its quantity and also the quality of relevés, the high-altitude database, as well as the whole SNVD, represents the unique database within Slovakia, which provides information not only about the locality, floristic composition and variability of individual vegetation types, but also about several environmental variables such as inclination, aspect, geology or soil type, characteristic for individual relevés. Together with other Central European databases, SNVD takes up the leading position in Europe.  相似文献

The paper presents the results of pollen analyses of samples collected from two peat localities in the Orlické hory mountains in Czechoslovakia. Appended pollen diagrams depict the vegetation and its changes in the Older and Younger Subatlantic period. The paper suggests the probable proportional representation of the principal woody plants in the area and, on the basis of pollen analyses, reconstructs the forest covers of the Orlické hory, especially of their upper regions. The author has foundFagus to have predominated among woody plants in the area (even in the upper regions) in the Older Subatlantic. From the 16th or 17th century onward it was gradually replaced byPicea. This change was primarily due to human activity (cutting down of the beeches). The composition of foot-hill forests, as far as it is reflected in the diagrams, is discussed. The pollen diagrams also testify to agricultural activity by man in the wide surroundings of the Orlické hory.  相似文献

Questions: How important is the choice of flow routing algorithm with respect to application of topographic wetness index (TWI) in vegetation ecology? Which flow routing algorithms are preferable for application in vegetation ecology? Location: Forests in three different regions of the Czech Republic. Methods: We used vegetation data from 521 georeferenced plots, recently sampled in a wide range of forest communities. From a digital elevation model, we calculated 11 variations of TWI for each plot with 11 different flow routing algorithms. We evaluated the performance of differently calculated TWI by (1) Spearman rank correlation with average Ellenberg indicator values for soil moisture, (2) Mantel correlation coefficient between dissimilarities of species composition and dissimilarities of TWI and (3) the amount of variation in species composition explained by canonical correspondence analysis. Results: The choice of flow routing algorithm had a considerable effect on the performance of TWI. Correlation with Ellenberg indicator values for soil moisture, Mantel correlation coefficient and explained variation doubled when the appropriate algorithm was used. In all regions, multiple flow routing algorithms performed best, while single flow routing algorithms performed worst. Conclusions: We recommend the multiple flow routing algorithms of Quinn et al. and Freeman for application in vegetation ecology.  相似文献

Rainfall distribution and the soil moisture regime have been recognized to be the key drivers of the phenological rhythms in Sahelian woody plants, although different climate triggers have been assumed to be involved in determining the date of the onset of the phenophase. However, almost no comparisons have been made of the actual relative predictive power of these environmental factors. The aim of our study was to quantify the ability of several factors to predict phenophase occurrence in the dominant woody populations of northern Mali. Canopy leafing, flowering and fruiting were monitored from May 2005 to July 2007. Multiple logistic regressions were used to test the predictive power of cumulative rainfall, soil moisture, air temperature, air humidity and day length, with time lags of up to 2 months. Artificial variables derived from time lags observed in phenophases were included as predictors to account for possible auto-correlation and cross-correlation among phenophases. Surprisingly, a decrease in temperature associated with different time lags was most often found to be the strongest predictor of both leafing and reproductive phenophases. In Sahelian shrubs, morphological and physiological adaptations strongly contribute to the relative independence of their activity from water availability, leaf phenology being a way to adjust the plant water balance to current water availability and atmospheric water content. This study provides insight towards the development of a mechanistic understanding of phenological control in the Sahel, which is becoming increasingly important in the context of expected climate changes.  相似文献

The red palm mite Raoiella indica Hirst (Tenuipalpidae) was first reported in the New World in 2004, dispersing quickly and widely while adopting new plant species as hosts. Since then, it has caused severe damage in this region, especially to coconut (Cocos nucifera L.). It was first found in Brazil in 2009, in the northern Amazonian state of Roraima. In the present study, native and introduced plants were sampled between March 2010 and February 2011 in sites of the 15 Roraima municipalities, to estimate its distribution and the associated mite fauna. In addition, monthly samples were taken from a coconut plantation in Mucajaí throughout the same period, for an initial appraisal of the levels R. indica could reach. It was found in 10 municipalities, on 19 plant species of four families. Six species are reported for the first time as hosts. Among the associated predators, 89.1% were Phytoseiidae, most commonly Amblyseius largoensis (Muma), Iphiseiodes zuluagai Denmark & Muma and Euseius concordis (Chant). The highest densities of R. indica, 1.5 and 0.35 mites/cm2 of leaflet (approx total of 331 and 77 mites/leaflet), were reached respectively in March 2010 and February 2011. The highest density of phytoseiids on coconut (0.009 mites/cm2 or about 2 mites/leaflet) was reached in November 2010. The average densities of R. indica recorded for Roraima were comparable to those reported for countries in which the mite is reportedly economically damaging. The dispersal of R. indica through the Amazon forest may result in damage to cultivated and native palms, and plants of other families, if the projected increase in both the frequency and the severity of drought events occurs. Parts of the Amazon have undergone periods of low rainfall, a condition that appears to favour the biology of this mite. Its eventual arrival to northeastern Brazil may result in heavy economic and ecological losses.  相似文献
