Summary

A key to the British species of the genus Suillus based on habitat, microscopic and macroscopic characters is discussed. Some species as yet unrecorded for the British Isles are included for completeness. Also included in the key are the only W. European member of Fuscoboletinus, the single British species of Bolentis, and two Xerocomus spp., X. badius and X. rubinus, both of which are superficially similar (in some characters) to members of the genus Suillus. The genera Chalciporus and Fuscoboletinus are reviewed and the taxonomic status of Boletus grevillei is discussed in detail.  相似文献

The fabriciin sabellid species, Fabricia nigra Langerhans, 1880 from the Macaronesian region, is assigned to the genus Pseudoaugeneriella Fitzhugh, 1998, based on information provided by newly collected specimens. The species is redescribed, including the variability of key characters. Moreover, structures of the anterior end — dorsal lips, ventral filamentous appendages, peristomial rings — of Pseudoaugeneriella nigra and other species of Fabriciinae are studied histologically and by means of SEM. The systematic significance of these characters in Fabriciinae is discussed.  相似文献

The structure of male genital organs in sibling species of the virilis group of Drosophila was examined using methods of multivariate statistics. The differences among these species were estimated using 33 indices and 2 angle parameters. The intraspecific and interspecific correlation structure of the examined characters and the order of their divergence were established. The key characters with respect to forming interspecific differences in the virilis species group were identified. Based on these results, the relative systematic positions of the sibling species are discussed as well as similarities and differences of the pattern of relationships among the species from that generally accepted for the virilis group.  相似文献

Instars II and III of Polypedilum aviceps Townes, Polypedilum convictum (Walker), and Polypedilum illinoense (Malloch) can be identified to species by associating them with instar IV because key taxonomic characters remain relatively unchanged from instar to instar. Instars I cannot be identified to species or genus unless they are associated with older, identifiable larvae reared from the same egg masses. No single character evaluated on slide material can be used to clearly separate instars in all three species. Larvae of P. aviceps can be separated into instars based on any four of seven characters; P. convictum by either of two characters; and, P. illinoense by a combination of two characters. Changes in structures of instars II, III, and IV are described for all three species. Growth ratios for some structures are compared and discussed with regard to Dyar's Rule.  相似文献

Didymodon kunlunensis D.P.Zhao, S.Mamtimin & S.He is described as a new species found in Xinjiang, China. The new species is characterised by a combination of the following characters: ovate leaves with laminal cells always smooth, red colour in KOH, recurved leaf margins from base to apex, a percurrent costa without dorsal and ventral stereid bands in cross section, a distinct stem central strand and the presence of gemmae in the leaf axils. Light microscope photographs of the significant characters are provided and its distinctions from closely related taxa are discussed. A key to Chinese Didymodon species with smooth laminal cell is provided.  相似文献

Abstract A phylogenetic analysis of the Melanthripidae genus Cranothrips Bagnall is presented. A data matrix with continuous and discrete characters was analysed under parsimony criteria. Continuous and discrete characters were analysed, separately and in combination. When the different blocks of characters were analysed separately, important differences in tree topologies occurred. The optimal tree obtained from discrete characters alone was similar to the tree resulting from total evidence. For most groups, the support values resulting from all the evidence analysis were higher than those obtained from the discrete‐only analysis. Two new species from Australia are described and illustrated, Cranothrips ibisca sp.n. and Cranothrips conostylus sp.n. A key to the 12 species in the genus is provided. Additionally, the host associations and the distributional patterns of the four worldwide genera of Melanthripidae are discussed.  相似文献

A phylogenetic reconstruction of the Neotropical electric fish genus Hypopygus based on 47 parsimony‐informative morphological characters is presented. A series of synapomorphies support the hypothesis of monophyly of Hypopygus, and partially resolve species‐level relationships within the genus. Hypopygus species are recognized here as miniaturized fishes based on two criteria; first, a derived condition of diminutive body size, and; second, the presence of a suite of reductive morphological characters, including partial or total losses, simplifications, and reductions of the anal‐fin rays, scales, cranial bones, and laterosensory canal system. Reductive characters associated with miniaturization comprise 45% of the total number of characters in the phylogenetic reconstruction of the genus. Miniaturization and reductive morphological evolution in Hypopygus are discussed here in the phylogenetic context. A taxonomic revision of Hypopygus is presented, in which five new species are described, two species previously assigned to the genus are redescribed, and a single known species of Stegostenopos is redescribed and included in Hypopygus as a junior synonym. Diagnostic criteria for the distinction of the slightly osmophilic species,Aureobasidium pullulans, and the opportunistic pathogen on conifers,Hormonema dematioides, are provided. Reliable identification requires a combination of characters of conidiogenesis, expansion growth and assimilative abilities. Relationships with species ofKabatiella, and with the teleomorph generaPringsheimia, Dothidea andDothiora, all havingHormonema-like cultural states, are discussed. A discussion on the generic delimitation of the orchid genera Brevilongium and Otoglossum is presented. Additional notes on Ecuadorella are provided. A comparison of the morphological characters of the genera is presented together with a key to their identification. Moreover, two new species of Brevilongium and four species of Otoglossum are described and illustrated. The taxonomic affinities of the new taxa are briefly discussed. A new species, Jurinea tortumensis A. Duran & B. Dogan (Asteraceae), is described and illustrated from Anatolia, Turkey. The species grows on serpentine stony places in the Tortum district (Erzurum Province) in northeast Anatolia. It is morphologically similar to J. consanguinea DC. The pollen characteristics and achene surface morphology of J. tortumensis and J. consanguinea are examined by SEM. Diagnostic morphological characters from closely similar taxa are discussed and arranged in a key. Ecology, conservation status and biogeography of the species are also presented. Two new species of Scrophularia L. sect. Tomiophyllum Benth., S. attariae Ranjbar & Rahchamani and S. maharluica Ranjbar & Rahchamani, are described and illustrated from Fars Province, south Iran. The diagnostic morphological characters of these species and closely related taxa are discussed. The distribution, ecology and conservation status of the new species are also described. The value and utility of stem indumentum and leaf stomata is evaluated as an additional source of information for their taxonomy. A new species, Klasea yunus-emrei B. Dogan, Ocak & A. Duran (Asteraceae), is described from central Anatolia, Turkey. The species grows on calcareous soils in the Alpu district (Eski¸ehir province) in central Anatolia. It is morphologically similar to Klasea lasiocephala (Bornm.) Greuter & Wagenitz. Diagnostic morphological characters from closely similar taxa are discussed and arranged in a key. Ecology, conservation status and biogeography of the species are also presented. The achene surface of K. yunus-emrei and K. lasiocephala are examined by Scanning Electron Microscope. Aphids of the species Cryptomyzus alboapicalis (Theobald, 1916) and Cryptomyzus leonuri Bozhko, 1961 are very similar morphologically, although exploit different host plants (Lamium album and Leonurus cardiaca, respectively). Morphological characters proposed for the separation of this species couple in the identification key to European Cryptomyzus species appeared to be of little discriminatory power when applied to apterous viviparous females from clonal lineages, whilst alate viviparous females of C. leonuri were not included in the key at all. The aim of this study was to find reliable morphological characters and their combinations for the separation of apterous and alate viviparous females of C. alboapicalis and C. leonuri. Forward stepwise discriminant analysis based on characters without statistically significant (P < 0.05) correlation (|r| ≥ 0.50) with body length resulted in canonical functions enabling correct classification of 95–100% of specimens from clonal lineages involved in the analysis with a priori specified group membership. The post hoc classification gave 95–100% correct identification of individuals from clonal and 85–100% from field-collected samples. The discriminative values of single morphological characters and canonical functions are discussed and modified key for the morphological identification of C. alboapicalis and C. leonuri apterous and alate viviparous females is suggested.  相似文献

A new orchid species, viz. Sarcoglyphis manipurensis, is described and illustrated from Imphal east and Chandel districts of Manipur in northeast India. It's distinguishing characters and affinity with S. mirabilis (Rchb.f.) Garay is discussed. An updated artificial key to all known species of Sarcoglyphis is provided.  相似文献
