Understanding stable isotope fractionation in trophic networks is important for the interpretation of stable isotope composition of ecosystem components. This work explores the influence of grazing pressure on the nitrogen isotope composition (?? 15N) of vegetation (standing biomass), soil, and sheep??s faeces and wool in a three-years (2005?C2007) experiment with different stocking rates (0.375?C2.25 sheep ha-1 year-1) in semi-arid Inner Mongolia grassland. The 15N of wool (from a yearly shearing) reflects vegetation at the whole-year grazing grounds-scale while faeces reflect that of the area grazed within a few days. Stocking rate had no effect on ?? 15N of vegetation and soil, and sheep??s faeces and wool, although nitrogen content of bulk vegetation increased with stocking rate. Furthermore, ?? 15N of vegetation and diet did not differ between stocking rates. Hence, 15N fractionations between vegetation and faeces (??veg-faeces), vegetation and wool (?? veg-wool), faeces and soil (?? faeces-soil) and soil and vegetation (?? soil-veg) were constants, with ?? veg-faeces?=?3.0?? (±0.1??, 95% confidence interval), ?? veg-wool?=?5.3?? (±0.1??), ?? faeces-soil?=?1.1?? (±0.4??) and ?? soil-veg?=?-4.1?? (±0.3??). This finding is useful as it means that ?? 15N of wool or faeces can be used to estimate the 15N of grazed vegetation, even if grazing pressure is unknown.  相似文献

Time management of truly wild hamsters was investigated in their natural habitat in Alashan desert, Inner Mongolia, China during summer of 2009, 2010, and 2012. Duration of activity outside their burrows, duration of foraging walks, and nocturnal inside stays were analyzed with the aim to elucidate impact of moon, ambient, and soil temperature. Animal data were determined using radio frequency identification (RFID) technique; for that purpose, individuals were caught in the field and marked with passive transponders. Their burrows were equipped with integrated microchip readers and photosensors for the detection of movements into or out of the burrow. Lunar impact was analyzed based on moon phase (full, waning, new, and waxing moons) and moon disk size. A prolongation of aboveground activity was shown with increasing moon disk size (Spearman ρ?=?0.237; p?=?0.025) which was caused by earlier onsets (ρ?=?0.161; p?=?0.048); additionally, foraging walks took longer (Pearson r?=?0.037; p?=?0.037). Temperature of different periods of time was analyzed, i.e., mean of whole day, of the activity phase, minimum, and maximum. Moreover, this was done for the current day and the previous 3 days. Overall, increasing ambient and soil temperatures were associated with shortening of activity by earlier offsets of activity and shorter nocturnal stays inside their burrows. Most influential temperatures for activity duration were the maximum ambient temperature, 3 days before (stepwise regression analysis R?=?0.499; R 2?=?0.249; F?=?7.281; p?=?0.013) and soil temperature during activity phase, 1 day before (R?=?0.644; R 2?=?0.283; F?=?7.458; p?=?0.004).  相似文献

The aim of present study was to elucidate the association of CTLA4 +49 A/G and HLA-DRB1*/DQB1* gene polymorphism in south Indian T1DM patients. The patients and controls (n?=?196 each) were enrolled for CTLA4 and HLA-DRB1*/DQB1* genotyping by RFLP/PCR-SSP methods. The increased frequencies of CTLA4 ‘AG’ (OR?=?1.99; p?=?0.001), ‘GG’ (OR?=?3.94; p?=?0.001) genotypes, and ‘G’ allele (OR?=?2.42; p?=?9.26?×?10?8) were observed in patients. Reduced frequencies of ‘AA’ (OR?=?0.35; p?=?7.19?×?10?7) and ‘A’ (OR?=?0.41; p?=?9.26?×?10?8) in patients revealed protective association. Among HLA-DRB1*/DQB1* alleles, DRB1*04 (OR?=?3.29; p?=?1.0?×?10?5), DRB1*03 (OR?=?2.81; p?=?1.9?×?10?6), DQB1*02:01 (OR?=?2.93; p?=?1.65?×?10?5), DQB1*02:02 (OR?=?3.38; p?=?0.0003), and DQB1*03:02 (OR?=?7.72; p?=?0.0003) were in susceptible association. Decreased frequencies of alleles, DRB1*15 (OR?=?0.32; p?=?2.55?×?10?7), DRB1*10 (OR?=?0.45; p?=?0.002), DQB1*06:01 (OR?=?0.43; p?=?0.0001), and DQB1*05:02 (OR?=?0.28; p?=?2.1?×?10?4) in patients were suggested protective association. The combination of DRB1*03+AG (OR?=?5.21; p?=?1.4?×?10?6), DRB1*04+AG (OR?=?2.14; p?=?0.053), DRB1*04+GG (OR?=?5.21; p?=?0.036), DQB1*02:01+AG (OR?=?4.44; p?=?3.6?×?10?5), DQB1*02:02+AG (OR?=?20.9; p?=?9.5?×?10?4), and DQB1*02:02+GG (OR?=?4.06; p?=?0.036) revealed susceptible association. However, the combination of DRB1*10+AA (OR?=?0.35; p?=?0.003), DRB1*15+AA (OR?=?0.22; p?=?5.3?×?10?7), DQB1*05:01+AA (OR?=?0.45; p?=?0.007), DQB1*05:02+AA (OR?=?0.17; p?=?1.7?×?10?4), DQB1*06:01+AA (OR?=?0.40; p?=?0.002), and DQB1*06:02+AG (OR?=?0.34; p?=?0.001) showed decreased frequency in patients, suggesting protective association. In conclusion, CTLA4/HLA-DR/DQ genotypic combinations revealed strong susceptible/protective association toward T1DM in south India. A female preponderance in disease associations was also documented.  相似文献

This study defined some population parameters for growth of the Red-bellied Piranha (Pygocentrus nattereri) in the Pantanal, based on the bimonthly length-frequency distribution of individuals in samples taken from October 2005 through August 2008 in the Negro River. The samples were taken by means of gill nets and cast nets, with meshes of 1.5?C8?cm between adjacent knots. The standard length of the fish ranged from 10.2 to 30.2?cm with a mean of 20.51?±?3.39. The gonadosomatic index (GSI) varied significantly among months (F?=?5.45; p?<?0.01), it was significantly higher from October to February, and was positively correlated and synchronized with day length (rs?=?0.92; p?<?0.01) and rainfall (rs?=?0.70; p?<?0.01). It was desynchronized from and not correlated with river level (rs?=?0.12; p?=?0.69). The GSI reached the highest values and ripe individuals were more frequent in December, prior to the months of highest river levels from February to April. The estimated growth parameters were L???=?31.8; k?=?0.45; Rn?=?0.204. In the Pantanal, P. nattereri has a life expectancy (6.9?years) compatible with the 7 cohorts indicated by the growth curve. Sexual maturation occurred at around 15.4?cm, after 1.6?years.  相似文献

Characterization of fish diets from stomach content analysis commonly involves the calculation of multiple relative measures of prey quantity (%N,%W,%FO), and their combination in the standardized Index of Relative Importance (%IRI). Examining the underlying structure of dietary data matrices reveals interdependencies among diet measures, and obviates the advantageous use of underused prey-specific measures to diet characterization. With these interdependencies clearly realized as formal mathematical expressions, we proceed to isolate algebraically, the inherent bias in %IRI, and provide a correction for it by substituting traditional measures with prey-specific measures. The resultant new index, the Prey-Specific Index of Relative Importance (%PSIRI), is introduced and recommended to replace %IRI for its demonstrated more balanced treatment of the relative measures of prey quantity, and less erroneous behavior across taxonomic levels of identified prey. As a case study, %PSIRI was used to examine the diet of the Aleutian skate Bathyraja aleutica from specimens collected from three ecoregions of the northern Gulf of Alaska (GOA) continental shelf during June-September 2005?C2007. Aleutian skate were found to primarily consume the commonly abundant benthic crustaceans, northern pink shrimp Pandalus eous and Tanner crab Chionoecetes bairdi, and secondarily consume various teleost fishes. Multivariate variance partitioning by Redundancy Analysis revealed spatially driven differences in the diet to be as influential as skate size, sex, and depth of capture. Euphausiids and other mid-water prey in the diet were strongly associated with the Shelikof Strait region during 2007 that may be explained by atypical marine climate conditions during that year.  相似文献

We developed a novel human leukocyte antigen HLA–ABC locus-specific quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to determine the locus-specific gene expression of HLA–ABC in peripheral blood leukocytes (PBLs, n?=?53), colon mucosa (n?=?15), and larynx mucosa (n?=?15). Laser-assisted tissue microdissection allowed us to study the selected cells without interference from surrounding stroma. We report evidence on the specificity of the technique, describing the HLA–ABC locus-specific gene expression patterns found in the PBLs and two solid tissues studied. PBLs showed a higher gene expression of HLA-B than of HLA-A or HLA-C (p?=?4.7?×?10?10 and p?=?1.6?×?10?6, respectively). In solid tissue, HLA-A and HLA-B gene expressions were similar and HLA-C expression lower. In particular, in larynx mucosa, significant differences were found between HLA-A and HLA-C expressions and between HLA-B and HLA-C expressions (p?=?6.5?×?10?4 and p?=?8.1?×?10?4, respectively). The same differences were observed in colon mucosa, but significance was not reached (p?=?0.08 and p?=?0.06, respectively). Differences in locus-specific regulation may be related to the control of cytotoxic responses of NK and CD8 positive T cells. Gene expression of HLA–ABC specific locus showed no intra-individual variability, but there was a high inter-individual variability. This may result from differences in the expression of common regulatory factors that control HLA–ABC constitutive expression.  相似文献

The foraging ecology of elasmobranchs (sharks, skates, and rays) is difficult to study because species have spatially and temporally diverse diets. Many diet and habitat preference studies for mammals, birds, and teleosts use stable isotope analysis, but interpretations are limited for elasmobranch studies because taxon-specific isotope discrimination factors from a controlled experiment are unavailable. Trophic discrimination factors for plasma, red blood cells, and muscle were determined from an experiment with leopard sharks (Triakis semifasciata) fed a constant diet of squid over 1000?days. The ??13C values for shark tissues at equilibrium with the squid diet did not vary significantly among individuals, but plasma and red blood cell ??15N values differed significantly among individuals and sampling day. Individual variation of muscle ??15N averages was observed and likely related to growth. Overall, carbon and nitrogen discrimination factors corresponded to previous studies featuring high-protein diets and carnivorous taxa. The muscle-to-diet discrimination factors from the controlled feeding study were applied to blue sharks (Prionace glauca) and smooth hammerhead sharks (Sphyrna zygaena) caught offshore from Baja California, Mexico. This case study demonstrates the potential of stable isotope analysis to illuminate differences in foraging patterns between elasmobranch species.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to identify loci associated with tail biting or being a victim of tail biting in Norwegian crossbred pigs using a genome-wide association study with PLINK case?Ccontrol analysis. DNA was extracted from hair or blood samples collected from 98 trios of crossbred pigs located across Norway. Each trio came from the same pen and consisted of one pig observed to initiate tail biting, one pig which was the victim of tail biting and a control pig which was not involved in either behaviour. DNA was genotyped using the Illumina PorcineSNP60 BeadChip whole-genome single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) assay. After quality assurance filtering, 53,952 SNPs remained comprising 74 animals (37 pairs) for the tail biter versus control comparison and 53,419 SNPs remained comprising 80 animals (40 pairs) for the victim of tail biting versus control comparison. An association with being a tail biter was observed on Sus scrofa chromosome 16 (SSC16; p?=?1.6?×?10?5) and an unassigned chromosome (p?=?3.9?×?10?5). An association with being the victim of tail biting was observed on Sus scrofa chromosomes 1 (SSC1; p?=?4.7?×?10?5), 9 (SSC9; p?=?3.9?×?10?5), 18 (SSC18; p?=?7?×?10?5 for 9,602,511?bp, p?=?3.4?×?10?5 for 9,653,881?bp and p?=?5.3?×?10?5 for 29,577,783 bp) and an unassigned chromosome (p?=?6.1?×?10?5). An r 2?=?0.96 and a D???=?1 between the two SNPs at 9?Mb on SSC18 indicated extremely high linkage disequilibrium, suggesting that these two markers represent a single locus. These results provide evidence of a moderate genetic association between the propensity to participate in tail-biting behaviour and the likelihood of becoming a victim of this behaviour.  相似文献

This paper reports the development of a proximal sensing technique used to predict maize root density, soil carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) content from the visible and near-infrared (Vis-NIR) spectral reflectance of soil cores. Eighteen soil cores (0?C60?cm depth with a 4.6?cm diameter) were collected from two sites within a field of 90-day-old maize silage; Kairanga silt loam and Kairanga fine sandy loam (Gley Soils). At each site, three replicate soil cores were taken at 0, 15 and 30?cm distance from the row of maize plants (rows were 60?cm apart). Each soil core was sectioned at 5 depths (7.5, 15, 30, 45, and 60?cm) and soil reflectance spectra were acquired from the freshly cut surface at each depth. A 1.5?cm soil slice was taken at each surface to obtain root mass and total soil C and N reference (measured) data. Root densities decreased with depth and distance from plant and were lower in the silt loam, which had the higher total C and N contents. Calibration models, developed using partial least squares regression (PLSR) between the first derivative of soil reflectance and the reference data, were able to predict with moderate accuracy the soil profile root density (r 2?=?0.75; ratio of prediction to deviation [RPD]?=?2.03; root mean square error of cross-validation [RMSECV]?=?1.68?mg/cm3), soil% C (r 2?=?0.86; RPD?=?2.66; RMSECV?=?0.48%) and soil% N (r 2?=?0.81; RPD?=?2.32; RMSECV?=?0.05%) distribution patterns. The important wavelengths chosen by the PLSR model to predict root density were different to those chosen to predict soil C or N. In addition, predicted root densities were not strongly autocorrelated to soil C (r?=?0.60) or N (r?=?0.53) values, indicating that root density can be predicted independently from soil C. This research has identified a potential method for assessing root densities in field soils enabling study of their role in soil organic matter synthesis.  相似文献

The rheological attributes of polymers as wheat dough are strongly related to its microstructure. To quantify dough protein microstructure confocal laser scanning microscopy combined with image analysis was used. The effect of three experimental factors pH (addition of lactic acid and sodium hydroxide), water addition, and sodium chloride (NaCl) addition on empirical and fundamental rheological properties as well as microstructural protein properties were studied and modeled by applying a response surface methodology. The obtained models revealed high correlations between the experimental factors and the complex shear modulus (R 2?=?0.97), dough resistance (Rmax k; R 2?=?0.91) and stickiness (R 2?=?0.93). Furthermore it was possible to determine microstructural attributes as the area fraction (R 2?=?0.88) and Feret??s diameter (R 2?=?0.86) as a function of pH, water and NaCl addition. Especially measures of Rk max revealed highly significant correlations with the protein microstructure as the branching index (r?=?0.79).  相似文献

Skates are prevalent in fisheries worldwide, but rarely are they identified to species. This is of conservation and management concern since skates exhibit a broad range of life history characteristics. The present study investigated the age and growth of the Starry Skate, Raja stellulata, and compared it to other regional skates inhabiting the U.S. West Coast. Age and growth parameters were determined using two vertebral preparation techniques: gross sectioning and histological sectioning. Gross section age estimates ranged from zero to 11 years and growth was described by the two parameter von Bertalanffy growth function (2 VBGF; L ?=?915 mm total length (TL) and k?=?0.13 year-1; n?=?189). Histological section age estimates ranged from zero to 15 years and growth was also described by the 2 VBGF (L ?=?1092 mm TL, k?=?0.06 year-1; n?=?68). Histological section results reflect a more conservative life history, specifically a lower von Bertalanffy growth coefficient, but had slightly biased results and a smaller sample size than the gross section results. An age and depth trend was found within the central California skate assemblage, in which habitat depth and maximum age were positively correlated.  相似文献

Irrawaddy dolphins (Orcaella brevirostris) are threatened, little‐known cetaceans primarily jeopardized by fishing gear entanglement. Information regarding life history, foraging ecology, and movement are crucial to determine management units and conservation regions. This is the first analysis of the ontogenetic changes in diet and habitat of Irrawaddy dolphins from the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea using stable isotopes from skin and teeth. Results suggest limited age and sex structure indicated by weak ontogenetic and sexual variability in δ15N and δ13C in teeth. Significant variation in δ13C and δ15N values were observed between three Gulf regions and the Andaman Sea, indicating distinct regional groups. Isotope mixing models run on soft tissues from the eastern Gulf revealed a diet based primarily on fishes and secondarily on crustaceans, suggesting overlap with fishery targets. Conservation strategies that focus on reducing regional competition with humans and bycatch mortality are proposed. Fishing gear improvements and monitoring of fishing operations are a potential immediate response to reduce anthropogenic impact.  相似文献

We examined whether the improvement of impaired NO-dependent vasorelaxation by exercise training could be mediated through a BH4-dependent mechanism. Male spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR, n?=?20) and Wistar-Kyoto rats (WKY, n?=?20) were trained (Tr) for 9 weeks on a treadmill and compared to age-matched sedentary animals (Sed). Endothelium-dependent vasorelaxation (EDV) was assessed with acetylcholine by measuring isometric tension in rings of femoral artery precontracted with 10?5?M phenylephrine. EDV was impaired in SHR-Sed as compared to WKY-Sed (p?=?0.02). Training alone improved EDV in both WKY (p?=?0.01) and SHR (p?=?0.0001). Moreover, EDV was not different in trained SHR than in trained WKY (p?=?0.934). Pretreatment of rings with L-NAME (50 μM) cancelled the difference in ACh-induced relaxation between all groups, suggesting that NO pathway is involved in these differences. The presence of 10?5?M BH4 in the organ bath significantly improved EDV for sedentary SHR (p?=?0.030) but not WKY group (p?=?0.815). Exercise training turned the beneficial effect of BH4 on SHR to impairment of ACh-induced vasorelaxation in both SHR-Tr (p?=?0.01) and WKY-Tr groups (p?=?0.04). These results suggest that beneficial effect of exercise training on endothelial function is due partly to a BH4-dependent mechanism in established hypertension.  相似文献

In this report, we present experimental results on evanescent optical field (EOF) interaction with 85Rb vapor atoms. A circularly polarized EOF, 780 nm in wavelength, optically pumps the 85Rb atoms from its upper ground state to its D2 excited state. A probe beam connecting the lower ground state of D2 transition stimulates emission of radiation from the excited atoms, which indicates additional atomic population excited by the circularly polarized EOF. Theoretical analysis and experimental results indicate that the circularly polarized EOF excites the D2 transition from 85Rb(52S1/2, F?=?3, m F ?=?±1) ground state to excited state (52P3/2, F’?=?3, m F ?=?0) that creates an additional population to this state, which can be detected with the help of a probe laser beam.  相似文献

Marsh habitats have been the focus of recent worldwide restoration efforts due to their degradation and destruction as a result of human development. We assessed fish resource use at a naturally restoring marsh (Liberty Island, California, USA) by comparing diet composition, stomach fullness, normalized stomach weight, and diet overlap across a vegetation gradient. Fish were collected using gill nets and fyke nets at six sites during spring 2010, summer 2011 and winter 2012. We analyzed 392 stomachs from the eleven most abundant species collected. Prey composition and biomass varied seasonally for all fish species, but there were no notable differences across sites or seasons for stomach fullness or normalized stomach weight for most fish species. Results from non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) and two-way analysis of similarities (ANOSIM) indicated minimal diet overlap between species (R?=?0.633, p?=?0.001) and seasons (R?=?0.413, p?=?0.001). Seasonal habitat and resource use across the vegetation gradient was species-specific. Small but significant spatial diet differences were detected for inland silverside, striped bass and bigscale logperch. Delta smelt exhibited seasonal diet differences by shifting from chironomids and zooplankton during spring, to amphipods and zooplankton during winter. More generally, fish maintained stomach fullness across all sites and seasons while maintaining minimal dietary overlap. Our study emphasizes the importance of tidal marshes as feeding habitat for several fish species, including the endangered delta smelt.  相似文献

This study describes the feeding ecology of three pelagic shark species in the California Current: shortfin mako (Isurus oxyrinchus); blue (Prionace glauca); and thresher (Alopias vulpinus) sharks. Stomach contents of sharks collected from 2002 to 2008 were identified to the lowest taxonomic level and analyzed using univariate and multivariate methods. Of 330 mako sharks sampled (53 to 248?cm fork length [FL]), 238 stomachs contained 42 prey taxa, with jumbo squid (Dosidicus gigas) and Pacific saury (Cololabis saira) representing the most important prey based on the geometric index of importance (GII). In addition, 158 blue sharks were sampled (76 to 248?cm FL) and 114 stomachs contained 38 prey taxa, with jumbo and Gonatus spp. squids representing the most important prey. Lastly, 225 thresher sharks were sampled (108 to 228?cm FL) and 157 stomachs contained 18 prey taxa with northern anchovy (Engraulis mordax) and Pacific sardine (Sardinops sagax) identified as the most important prey. Overall, mako sharks had the most diverse diet based upon Simpson??s diversity index (1/D) (8.43?±?1.16), feeding on many species of teleosts and cephalopods, followed by blue sharks (6.20?±?2.11) which consumed a wide range of prey (primarily cephalopods), while thresher sharks were most specialized (2.62?±?0.34), feeding primarily on coastal pelagic teleosts. Dietary overlap was lowest between blue and thresher sharks (S?rensen similarity index?=?0.321 and Simplified Morisita Horn index?=?0.006), and seasonal variability in diet was greatest for blue sharks (Simplified Morisita Horn index?=?0.260, Analysis of Similarity (ANOSIM) p?<?0.001). In addition, size class, and subregion were significant factors that affected diet of each species differently (ANOSIM p?<?0.001). Despite similarities in life history characteristics and spatial and temporal overlap in habitat, diets of these three common shark species are distinct in the California Current.  相似文献

Stomach contents of 175 Brazilian sharpnose sharks, Rhizoprionodon lalandii, were examined to assess their feeding habits. Caught by artisanal fishers between June 2006 and July of 2007 at Ipanema Beach, on the central coast of the state of Paraná, southern Brazil, R. lalandii appears to be piscivorous (89.7% IRI), feeding mainly on families of Clupeidae (5.1% IRI) and Sciaenidae (3.7% IRI) and secondarily on squid Lolliguncula brevis (8.6% IRI). Diets were similar between sexes and seasons. However, there were ontogenetic changes in their diets. The major items for neonates were Penaeidae crustaceans (%IRI = 56.4) and Engraulidae fishes (%IRI = 29.3); for the juveniles, Sciaenidae (%IRI = 62.5) and Clupeidae (%IRI = 19.7), and for adults Clupeidae (%IRI = 45.8) and Sciaenidae (%IRI = 15.9). Only neonate sharks consumed crustaceans, whereas all size classes consumed cephalopods and teleosts. Neonates had the lowest trophic level (TR = 3.8), with the diet of juveniles and adults the highest (TR = 4.2). Given its abundance and diet, R. lalandii may be an important predator of demersal and pelagic prey in coastal waters of Brazil.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine whether interleukin-23 receptor (IL-23R) polymorphisms confer susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A meta-analysis was conducted on the associations between the IL-23R rs1343151, rs10489629, rs7517847, rs11209026, rs1004819, and rs2201841 polymorphisms and RA using (1) allele contrast, (2) the recessive model, (3) the dominant model, and (4) the additive model. A total of 13 studies from eight articles involving 10,016 RA patients and 11,967 controls were considered in the meta-analysis. Meta-analysis identified a significant association between RA and the A allele of the rs1343151 polymorphism in the overall population (OR?=?1.110, 95?% CI?=?1.056–1.168, p?=?4.7?×?10?6). Stratification by ethnicity identified a significant association between this polymorphism and RA in Europeans (OR?=?1.105, 95?% CI?=?1.049–1.163, p?=?1.4?×?10?5). An association was also found between RA and the A allele carrier of the rs1343151 polymorphism in Europeans (OR?=?1.135, 95?% CI?=?1.058–1.217, p?=?4.0?×?10?5). Meta-analysis revealed a significant association between RA and the A allele of the rs10489629 polymorphism in the overall population (OR?=?1.079, 95?% CI?=?1.029–1.131, p?=?0.002) and in Europeans (OR?=?1.092, 95?% CI?=?1.038–1.149, p?=?0.001). Meta-analyses of recessive, dominant, and additive models showed the same pattern as the meta-analysis of the A allele of the rs10489629 polymorphism, that is, a significant association with RA in Europeans. However, no association was found between the IL-23R rs7517847, rs11209026, rs1004819, and rs2201841 polymorphisms and RA susceptibility. This meta-analysis shows that the IL-23R rs1343151 and rs10489629 polymorphisms are associated with the development of RA in Europeans. These findings suggest that the IL-23R genes confer susceptibility to RA in the European population, but further study of this association is required in other ethnic groups.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine whether juvenile scalloped hammerhead sharks (Sphyrna lewini) use the south-eastern Gulf of California as a nursery and feeding area. This information could help lay the groundwork required for the conservation of this endangered species. To address this, we carried out stable isotope (δ15N and δ13C) and stomach content analyses of sharks caught between 2000 and 2004 in Mazatlan, Mexico. Stomach contents and δ13C values indicated that S. lewini is a predator that feeds on benthic prey near the coast. Differences in δ15N average values between sizes classes (<100 vs. >100 cm) suggest that there was an ontogenetic change in this shark’s feeding habits and also in their living environment (from benthic areas to pelagic areas). The trophic position indicated that S. lewini is a tertiary consumer, but with a high degree of trophic plasticity, and thus, different trophic roles, highlighting the importance of this predator as a regulator of prey populations. Finally, the linear isotopic relationship between S. lewini and its prey indicates a long residency within the Mazatlan area. Our results demonstrate that the south-eastern Gulf of California is a nursery area that offers abundant food for juvenile scalloped hammerhead sharks.  相似文献
