The purpose of this study was to determine the effects creatine (Cr) loading may have on thermoregulatory responses during intermittent sprint exercise in a hot/humid environment. Ten physically active, heat-acclimatized men performed 2 familiarization sessions of an exercise test consisting of a 30-minute low-intensity warm-up followed by 6 x 10 second maximal sprints on a cycle ergometer in the heat (35 degrees C, 60% relative humidity). Subjects then participated in 2 different weeks of supplementation. The first week, subjects ingested 5 g of a placebo (P, maltodextrin) in 4 flavored drinks (20 g total) per day for 6 days and were retested on day 7. The second week was similar to the first except a similar dose (4 x 5 g/day) of creatine monohydrate (Cr) replaced maltodextrin in the flavored drinks. Six days of Cr supplementation produced a significant increase in body weight (+1.30 +/- 0.63 kg), whereas the P did not (+0.11 +/- 0.52 kg). Compared to preexercise measures, the exercise test in the heat produced a significant increase in core temperature, a loss of body water determined by body weight change during exercise, and a relative change in plasma volume (%PVC); however, these were not significantly different between P and Cr. Sprint performance was enhanced by Cr loading. Peak power and mean power were significantly higher during the intermittent sprint exercise test following 6 days of Cr supplementation. It appears that ingestion of Cr for 6 days does not produce any different thermoregulatory responses to intermittent sprint exercise and may augment sprint exercise performance in the heat.  相似文献

This study investigated creatine supplementation (CrS) effects on muscle total creatine (TCr), creatine phosphate (CrP), and intermittent sprinting performance by using a design incorporating the time course of the initial increase and subsequent washout period of muscle TCr. Two groups of seven volunteers ingested either creatine [Cr; 6 x (5 g Cr-H(2)O + 5 g dextrose)/day)] or a placebo (6 x 5 g dextrose/day) over 5 days. Five 10-s maximal cycle ergometer sprints with rest intervals of 180, 50, 20, and 20 s and a resting vastus lateralis biopsy were conducted before and 0, 2, and 4 wk after placebo or CrS. Resting muscle TCr, CrP, and Cr were unchanged after the placebo but were increased (P < 0.05) at 0 [by 22.9 +/- 4.2, 8.9 +/- 1.9, and 14.0 +/- 3.3 (SE) mmol/kg dry mass, respectively] and 2 but not 4 wk after CrS. An apparent placebo main effect of increased peak power and cumulative work was found after placebo and CrS, but no treatment (CrS) main effect was found on either variable. Thus, despite the rise and washout of muscle TCr and CrP, maximal intermittent sprinting performance was unchanged by CrS.  相似文献

This paper describes and quantifies acute responses of the kidneys in correcting plasma volume, acid-base, and ion disturbances resulting from NaHCO(3) and KHCO(3) ingestion. Renal excretion of ions and water was studied in five men after ingestion of 3.57 mmol/kg body mass of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO(3)) and, in a separate trial, potassium bicarbonate (KHCO(3)). Subjects had a Foley catheter inserted into the bladder and indwelling catheters placed into an antecubital vein and a brachial artery. Blood and urine were sampled in the 30-min period before, the 60-min period during, and the 210-min period after ingestion of the solutions. NaHCO(3) ingestion resulted in a rapid, transient diuresis and natriuresis. Cumulative urine output was 44 +/- 11% of ingested volume, resulting in a 555 +/- 119 ml increase in total body water at the end of the experiment. The cumulative increase (above basal levels) in renal Na(+) excretion accounted for 24 +/- 2% of ingested Na(+). In the KHCO(3) trial, arterial plasma K(+) concentration rapidly increased from 4.25 +/- 0.10 to a peak of 7.17 +/- 0.13 meq/l 140 min after the beginning of ingestion. This increase resulted in a pronounced, transient diuresis, with cumulative urine output at 270 min similar to the volume ingested, natriuresis, and a pronounced kaliuresis that was maintained until the end of the experiment. Cumulative (above basal) renal K(+) excretion at 270 min accounted for 26 +/- 5% of ingested K(+). The kidneys were important in mediating rapid corrections of substantial portions of the fluid and electrolyte disturbances resulting from ingestion of KHCO(3) and NaHCO(3) solutions.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of varying recovery intervals on multiple-bout, short-duration, high-intensity cycling efforts of adult men supplemented with creatine (Cr) or a placebo (Pl). Thirty subjects underwent 3 trials of a maximal cycling protocol (T(0), T(1), T(2)). T(0) included V(O)2 max testing and familiarization with the sprint cycling protocol. T(1) consisted of 8 15-second bouts of sprint cycling exercise. Subjects were randomly assigned to recovery interval groups (1 minute, 3 minutes, 6 minutes), and Cr or Pl groups (0.3 g x kg(-1) x d(-1)). Posttesting (T(2)) took place 7 days after T(1) and consisted of an identical protocol as during T(1). Changes in mean power (MP), peak power (PP), and fatigue index (FI) were compared between trials. MP was significantly increased in Cr 1-minute, Cr 3-minute, and Pl 6-minute groups (p < 0.05). Significant PP increases were demonstrated in Cr 1-minute and Pl 6-minute groups (p < 0.05), and FI significantly increased in Pl 1-minute group (p < 0.05). Results indicate that Cr supplementation is effective in improving recovery from repeated sprint cycling performances when the recovery interval is of a short (<6 minutes) duration.  相似文献

In the present study, we have investigated the effect of carbohydrate and protein hydrolysate ingestion on muscle glycogen resynthesis during 4 h of recovery from intense cycle exercise. Five volunteers were studied during recovery while they ingested, immediately after exercise, a 600-ml bolus and then every 15 min a 150-ml bolus containing 1) 1.67 g. kg body wt(-1). l(-1) of sucrose and 0.5 g. kg body wt(-1). l(-1) of a whey protein hydrolysate (CHO/protein), 2) 1.67 g. kg body wt(-1). l(-1) of sucrose (CHO), and 3) water. CHO/protein and CHO ingestion caused an increased arterial glucose concentration compared with water ingestion during 4 h of recovery. With CHO ingestion, glucose concentration was 1-1.5 mmol/l higher during the first hour of recovery compared with CHO/protein ingestion. Leg glucose uptake was initially 0.7 mmol/min with water ingestion and decreased gradually with no measurable glucose uptake observed at 3 h of recovery. Leg glucose uptake was rather constant at 0.9 mmol/min with CHO/protein and CHO ingestion, and insulin levels were stable at 70, 45, and 5 mU/l for CHO/protein, CHO, and water ingestion, respectively. Glycogen resynthesis rates were 52 +/- 7, 48 +/- 5, and 18 +/- 6 for the first 1.5 h of recovery and decreased to 30 +/- 6, 36 +/- 3, and 8 +/- 6 mmol. kg dry muscle(-1). h(-1) between 1.5 and 4 h for CHO/protein, CHO, and water ingestion, respectively. No differences could be observed between CHO/protein and CHO ingestion ingestion. It is concluded that coingestion of carbohydrate and protein, compared with ingestion of carbohydrate alone, did not increase leg glucose uptake or glycogen resynthesis rate further when carbohydrate was ingested in sufficient amounts every 15 min to induce an optimal rate of glycogen resynthesis.  相似文献

There has been recent interest in the potential performance and metabolic effects of carbohydrate ingestion during exercise lasting approximately 1 h. In this study, 13 well-trained men ingested in randomized order either a 6% glucose solution (CHO trial) or a placebo (Con trial) during exercise to exhaustion at 83+/-1% peak oxygen uptake. In six subjects, vastus lateralis muscle was sampled at rest, at 32 min, and at exhaustion, and in six subjects, glucose kinetics was determined by infusion of [6,6-(2)H]glucose in both trials and ingestion of [6-(3)H]glucose in the CHO trial. Of the 84 g of glucose ingested during exercise in the CHO trial, only 22 g appeared in the peripheral circulation. This resulted in a small (12 g) but significant (P<0.05) increase in glucose uptake without influencing carbohydrate oxidation, muscle glycogen use, or time to exhaustion (CHO: 68.1+/-4.1 min; Con: 69.6+/-5.5 min). Decreases in muscle phosphocreatine content and increases in muscle inosine monophosphate and lactate content during exercise were similar in the two trials. Although endogenous glucose production during exercise was partially suppressed in the CHO trial, it remained significantly above preexercise levels throughout exercise. In conclusion, only 26% of the ingested glucose appeared in the peripheral circulation. Glucose ingestion increased glucose uptake and partially reduced endogenous glucose production but had no effect on carbohydrate oxidation, muscle metabolism, or time to exhaustion during exercise at 83% peak oxygen uptake.  相似文献

The effect of sodium bicarbonate and sodium citrate ingestion on cycling performance in three 30 s Wingate Anaerobic Tests separated by 6 min recovery periods has been studied using 6 male subjects. Subjects ingested either sodium bicarbonate (B), sodium bicarbonate plus sodium citrate (BC), sodium citrate (C) or sodium chloride (P) 2.5 h prior to exercise in a dose of 0.3 g kg-1 body weight. Pre-exercise blood pH was 7.44 +/- 0.06, 7.42 +/- 0.05, 7.41 +/- 0.05 and 7.38 +/- 0.04 in the C, BC, B and P conditions respectively. Mean and peak power output were significantly reduced by successive Wingate tests but not significantly affected by the treatments. Performance in the second and third tests was highest following C, BC and B ingestion. The total work done in the 3 tests was 103%, 102% and 101% of that achieved in the P condition after C, BC and B ingestion respectively. The increased alkali reserve recorded subsequent to bicarbonate and citrate treatment reduced mean post-exercise acidosis, although pH was significantly higher only in the C condition (p less than 0.05) compared to P after each exercise bout. No significant differences in plasma lactate concentration were recorded at any time. Citrate ingestion appears to be most effective in elevating blood pH and [HCO3-], and in enhancing performance in short-term intermittent exercise. This study demonstrates that alkali ingestion results in significant shifts in the acid-base balance of the blood and has a small, but non-significant, effect on anaerobic power and capacity as measured in a series of 3 Wingate Anaerobic Tests.  相似文献

The addition of carbohydrate (CHO) to an acute creatine (Cr) loading regimen has been shown to increase muscle total creatine content significantly beyond that achieved through creatine loading alone. However, the potential ergogenic effects of combined Cr and CHO loading have not been assessed. The purpose of this study was to compare swimming performance, assessed as mean swimming velocity over repeated maximal intervals, in high-performance swimmers before and after an acute loading regimen of either creatine alone (Cr) or combined creatine and carbohydrate (Cr + CHO). Ten swimmers (mean +/- SD of age and body mass: 17.8 +/- 1.8 years and 72.3 +/- 6.8 kg, respectively) of international caliber were recruited and were randomized to 1 of 2 groups. Each swimmer ingested five 5 g doses of creatine for 4 days, with the Cr + CHO group also ingesting approximately 100 g of simple CHO 30 minutes after each dose of creatine. Performance was measured on 5 separate occasions: twice at "baseline" (prior to intervention, to assess the repeatability of the performance test), within 48 hours after intervention, and then 2 and 4 weeks later. All subjects swam faster after either dietary loading regimen (p < 0.01, both regimens); however, there was no difference in the extent of improvement of performance between groups. In addition, all swimmers continued to produce faster swim times for up to 4 weeks after intervention. Our findings suggest that no performance advantage was gained from the addition of carbohydrate to a creatine-loading regimen in these high-caliber swimmers.  相似文献

We have recently established that phosphocreatine (PCr), a high-energy phosphate compound known to serve as an intracellular energy reserve, accumulates in the seminal vesicular fluid (SVF) of the mouse and the rat. To investigate whether the accumulation of PCr in the extracellular fluid of the seminal vesicles of mice is androgen-dependent, young adult mice (Swiss Webster, 6-7 wk old) were orchidectomized. Involution of the seminal vesicles following orchidectomy resulted in the total absence of SVF. Administration of testosterone propionate (TP) 2 wk later at a daily dose of 5 micrograms/g b.w. caused a rapid increase in the weights of seminal vesicle tissue (SVT) and SVF and also increased the concentration of PCr in SVF. The concentration of PCr in SVF increased rapidly from 3.0 mumol/g on Day 2 to a peak value of 11.1 +/- 0.5 mumol/g on Day 6. The increase in PCr concentration in SVF coincided with the enhanced rate of secretion of specific proteins by androgen-responsive epithelial cells. The creatine (Cr) concentration in SVF also increased from 12.6 mumol/g on Day 2 to 41.1 +/- 4.6 mumol/g on Day 8. The concentrations of PCr in SVF of TP-treated mice were about twice those in the age-matched intact controls. The concentrations of PCr and of Cr in SVT also increased from 1.1 +/- 0.5 mumol/g and 1.7 +/- 0.8 mumol/g, respectively, on Day 0 to the steady-state levels of 5.3 +/- 0.7 mumol/g and 14.8 +/- 2.7 mumol/g by Day 8. These results demonstrate that the accumulation of PCr in the fluid of mouse seminal vesicle is regulated by androgen.  相似文献

Immunomodulatory effects of nisin in turbot (Scophthalmus maximus L.)   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
In the present work, the effect of nisin on the non-specific immune response of turbot (Scophthalmus maximus L.) leukocytes has been studied both in vitro and in vivo. The head kidney macrophage chemiluminescent (CL) response was significantly increased with intermediate doses of nisin (2.5 and 0.025 micro g ml(-1)) whilst the higher dose (25 micro g ml(-1)) significantly decreased the response after 24h incubation. When the incubation time was extended to 72 h, significant differences between doses were observed and the lower nisin concentration (0.025 micro g ml(-1)) appeared to be the optimum dose for increasing the CL response. The phagocytic activity of HK macrophages was also affected by in vitro nisin treatments. Nisin at 0.25 micro g ml(-1) and 0.025 micro g ml(-1) significantly stimulated the response after 24 and 72 h incubation respectively. Nitric oxide (NO) production by HK macrophages was not influenced by any nisin concentration employed for 24 or 72 h incubationsIn vivo, one week post injection, a slightly but non-significant stimulation of the CL response was observed with the lowest nisin concentration (0.0025 micro g fish(-1)). NO in serum and serum antibacterial index were not significantly affected by nisin treatments. On the other hand, lysozyme concentration in serum was significantly augmented with the lowest nisin dose (0.0025 micro g fish(-1)).The antibacterial effect of nisin against the fish pathogenic bacteria Carnobacterium piscicola (CECT 4020) was also demonstrated in vitro.  相似文献

Skeletal muscle loss during aging leads to an increased risk of falls, fractures, and eventually loss of independence. Resistance exercise is a useful intervention to prevent sarcopenia; however, the muscle protein synthesis (MPS) response to resistance exercise is less in elderly compared with young subjects. On the other hand, essential amino acids (EAA) increase MPS equally in both young and old subjects when sufficient EAA is ingested. We hypothesized that EAA ingestion following a bout of resistance exercise would stimulate anabolic signaling and MPS similarly between young and old men. Each subject ingested 20 g of EAA 1 h following leg resistance exercise. Muscle biopsies were obtained before and 1, 3, and 6 h after exercise to measure the rate of MPS and signaling pathways that regulate translation initiation. MPS increased early in young (1-3 h postexercise) and later in old (3-6 h postexercise). At 1 h postexercise, ERK1/2 MNK1 phosphorylation increased and eIF2alpha phosphorylation decreased only in the young. mTOR signaling (mTOR, S6K1, 4E-BP1, eEF2) was similar between groups at all time points, but MNK1 phosphorylation was lower at 3 h and AMP-activated protein kinase-alpha (AMPKalpha) phosphorylation was higher in old 1-3 h postexercise. We conclude that the acute MPS response after resistance exercise and EAA ingestion is similar between young and old men; however, the response is delayed with aging. Unresponsive ERK1/2 signaling and AMPK activation in old muscle may be playing a role in the delayed activation of MPS. Notwithstanding, the combination of resistance exercise and EAA ingestion should be a useful strategy to combat sarcopenia.  相似文献

Seven healthy male volunteers exercised on a cycle ergometer at 50 +/- 5% VO2max for 180 min, on three occasions during which they ingested either water only (W), [13C]glucose (G), or [13C]fructose (F) (140 +/- 12 g, diluted at 7% in water, and evenly distributed over the exercise period). Blood glucose concentration (in mM) significantly decreased during exercise with W (5.1 +/- 0.4 to 4.2 +/- 0.1) but remained stable with G (5.0 +/- 0.4 to 5.3 +/- 0.6) or F ingestion (5.4 +/- 0.5 to 5.1 +/- 0.4). Decreases in plasma insulin concentration (microU/ml) were greater (P less than 0.05) with W (11 +/- 3 to 3 +/- 1) and F (12 +/- 4 to 5 +/- 1) than with G ingestion (11 +/- 2 to 9 +/- 5), and fat utilization was greater with F (103 +/- 11 g) than with G ingestion (82 +/- 9 g) and lower than with W ingestion (132 +/- 14 g). However F was less readily available for combustion than G; over the 3-h period 75% (106 +/- 11 g) of ingested G was oxidized, compared with 56% (79 +/- 8 g) of ingested fructose. As a consequence, carbohydrate store utilizations were similar in the two conditions (G, 174 +/- 20 g; F, 173 +/- 17 g; vs. W, 193 +/- 22 g). These observations suggest that, during prolonged moderate exercise, F ingestion maintains blood glucose as well as G ingestion, and increases fat utilization when compared to G ingestion. However, due to a slower rate of utilization of F, carbohydrate store sparing is similar with G and F ingestions.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to compare the oxidation of 13C-labeled glucose, fructose, and glucose polymer ingested (1.33 g.kg-1 in 19 ml.kg-1 water) during cycle exercise (120 min, 53 +/- 2% maximal O2 uptake) in six healthy male subjects. Oxidation of exogenous glucose and glucose polymer (72 +/- 15 and 65 +/- 18%, respectively, of the 98.9 +/- 4.7 g ingested) was similar and significantly greater than exogenous fructose oxidation (54 +/- 13%). A transient rise in plasma glucose concentration was observed with glucose ingestion only. However, plasma insulin levels were similar with glucose and glucose polymer ingestions and significantly higher than with water or fructose ingestion. Plasma free fatty acid and glycerol responses to exercise were blunted with carbohydrate ingestion. However, fat utilization was not significantly different with water (82 +/- 14 g), glucose (60 +/- 3 g), fructose (59 +/- 11 g), or glucose polymer ingestion (60 +/- 8 g). Endogenous carbohydrate utilization was significantly lower with glucose (184 +/- 22 g), glucose polymer (187 +/- 31 g), and fructose (211 +/- 18 g) than with water (239 +/- 30 g) ingestion. Plasma volume slightly increased with water ingestion (7.4 +/- 4.5%), but the decrease was similar with glucose (-7.6 +/- 5.1%) and glucose polymer (-8.2 +/- 4.6%), suggesting that the rate of water delivery to plasma was similar with the two carbohydrates.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: As part of our studies of the metabolic effects of ingested proteins, we are currently investigating the effects of ingestion of individual amino acids. The objective of the present study was to determine whether ingested phenylalanine stimulates insulin and/or glucagon secretion, and if phenylalanine ingested with glucose modifies the insulin, glucagon or glucose response to the ingested glucose. DESIGN: Six healthy subjects were tested on 4 separate occasions. Plasma phenylalanine, glucose, insulin, glucagon, and total alpha amino nitrogen (AAN) (i.e., total amino acids) concentrations were measured at various times during a 2.5 h period after ingestion of 1 mmol phenylalanine/kg lean body mass, 25 g glucose, 1 mmol phenylalanine/kg lean body mass+25 g glucose, or water only, given in random order. RESULTS: Following phenylalanine ingestion, the circulating phenylalanine concentration increased approximately 14 fold and remained elevated for the duration of the experiment. Glucagon and AAN increased, insulin increased modestly, and glucose was unchanged when compared to water ingestion. When glucose was ingested with phenylalanine, the circulating phenylalanine, glucagon, AAN, and insulin area responses were approximately the sum of the responses to phenylalanine alone and glucose alone. However, the plasma glucose area response was decreased 66% when phenylalanine was co-ingested with glucose. CONCLUSION: In summary, phenylalanine in an amount moderately greater than that in a large protein meal stimulates an increase in insulin and glucagon concentration. It markedly attenuates the glucose-induced rise in plasma glucose when ingested with glucose.  相似文献

We examined the effect of glycogen-depleting exercise on subsequent muscle total creatine (TCr) accumulation and glycogen resynthesis during postexercise periods when the diet was supplemented with carbohydrate (CHO) or creatine (Cr) + CHO. Fourteen subjects performed one-legged cycling exercise to exhaustion. Muscle biopsies were taken from the exhausted (Ex) and nonexhausted (Nex) limbs after exercise and after 6 h and 5 days of recovery, during which CHO (CHO group, n = 7) or Cr + CHO (Cr+CHO group, n = 7) supplements were ingested. Muscle TCr concentration ([TCr]) was unchanged in both groups 6 h after supplementation commenced but had increased in the Ex (P < 0.001) and Nex limbs (P < 0.05) of the Cr+CHO group after 5 days. Greater TCr accumulation was achieved in the Ex limbs (P < 0.01) of this group. Glycogen was increased above nonexercised concentrations in the Ex limbs of both groups after 5 days, with the concentration being greater in the Cr+CHO group (P = 0.06). Thus a single bout of exercise enhanced muscle Cr accumulation, and this effect was restricted to the exercised muscle. However, exercise also diminished CHO-mediated insulin release, which may have attenuated insulin-mediated muscle Cr accumulation. Ingesting Cr with CHO also augmented glycogen supercompensation in the exercised muscle.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of 2 and 6 days of creatine phosphate loading on anaerobic working capacity (AWC) and body weight (BW) in men and women. Sixty-one men (n = 31) and women (n = 30) randomly received 1 of 3 treatments (4 x 5 g.d(-1) x 6 days) using a double blind design: (a) 18 g dextrose as placebo (PL); (b) 5.0 g Cr + 20 g dextrose (Cr); or (c) 5.0 g Cr + 18 g dextrose + 4 g of sodium and potassium phosphates (CrP). AWC was determined at baseline and following 2 and 6 days of supplementation using the Critical Power Test. BW increased significantly over time, and the mean value for the men was significantly greater compared to that for women, but there were no interactions (p > 0.05). There were gender-specific responses for AWC expressed in both absolute values (kJ) and relative to BW (kJ. kg(-1)), with the women demonstrating no significant interactions. For the men, CrP loading significantly increased AWC following 2 days (23.8%) and 6 days (49.8%) of supplementation vs. PL (kJ and kJ.kg(-1)). Cr supplementation increased AWC 13-15% in both genders compared to PL (1.1%- 3.0% decline); although this result was not statistically significant, it may have some practical significance.  相似文献

In this investigation we evaluated the effects of oral creatine (Cr) supplementation on body composition, strength of the elbow flexors, and fatigue of the knee extensors in 20 males aged 60-82 years who were randomly administered Cr or placebo (P) in a double-blind fashion. Subjects ingested either 20 g of Cr or P for 10 days, followed by either 4 g of Cr or P, respectively, for 20 days. Tests were conducted pre-supplementation and following 10 and 30 days of supplementation. Leg fatigue was determined using an isokinetic dynamometer; subjects performed 5 sets of 30 maximal voluntary contractions at 180 degrees x s(-1), with 1 min of recovery between sets. The strength of the elbow flexors was assessed using a modified preacher bench attached to a strain gauge. There was a significant interaction (P < 0.05; group x time) in leg fatigue following supplementation. However, this interaction appears to have resulted from a combination of the improved fatigue score by the Cr-supplemented group and the decreased fatigue score by the P-supplemented group, because when the simple main effects were analyzed for the groups individually, there was no significant difference over time for either of the groups. There were no significant differences in body mass, body density, or fat-free mass as assessed by hydrostatic weighing, or strength between the Cr-supplemented or P-supplemented groups. These data suggest that 30 days of Cr-supplementation may have a beneficial effect on reducing muscle fatigue in men over the age of 60 years, but it does not affect body composition or strength.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine 10 weeks of creatine monohydrate (Cr) supplementation coupled with resistance training on body composition and strength in women trainees. Twenty-six subjects ingested Cr (n = 13) or a placebo (Pl) (n = 13) at a dose of 0.3 g.kg(-1) and 0.03 g.kg(-1) body mass for the initial 7 days and subsequent 9 weeks, respectively, while performing a resistance training program 4 days per week. Significant increases (p < 0.05) occurred in both groups for lean body mass and 1 repetition maximum (1RM) bench press and incline leg press. There was a significant main effect for training, but there was no significant difference in the total number of repetitions completed after 5 sets of multiple repetitions to exhaustion at 70% of 1RM for bench press and incline leg press for both groups or in the ability to perform a greater training volume (sets x repetitions x load) in the Cr vs. Pl groups over the 10 weeks. The results indicate that Cr supplementation combined with 10 weeks of concurrent resistance training may not improve strength or lean body mass greater than training only. These findings may be a result of nonresponders due to gender differences or a varying biological potential to uptake Cr within the muscle.  相似文献

To investigate the effect of elevated plasma free fatty acid (FFA) concentrations on splanchnic glucose uptake (SGU), we measured SGU in nine healthy subjects (age, 44 +/- 4 yr; body mass index, 27.4 +/- 1.2 kg/m(2); fasting plasma glucose, 5.2 +/- 0.1 mmol/l) during an Intralipid-heparin (LIP) infusion and during a saline (Sal) infusion. SGU was estimated by the oral glucose load (OGL)-insulin clamp method: subjects received a 7-h euglycemic insulin (100 mU x m(-2) x min(-1)) clamp, and a 75-g OGL was ingested 3 h after the insulin clamp was started. After glucose ingestion, the steady-state glucose infusion rate (GIR) during the insulin clamp was decreased to maintain euglycemia. SGU was calculated by subtracting the integrated decrease in GIR during the period after glucose ingestion from the ingested glucose load. [3-(3)H]glucose was infused during the initial 3 h of the insulin clamp to determine rates of endogenous glucose production (EGP) and glucose disappearance (R(d)). During the 3-h euglycemic insulin clamp before glucose ingestion, R(d) was decreased (8.8 +/- 0.5 vs. 7.6 +/- 0.5 mg x kg(-1) x min(-1), P < 0.01), and suppression of EGP was impaired (0.2 +/- 0.04 vs. 0.07 +/- 0.03 mg x kg(-1) x min(-1), P < 0.01). During the 4-h period after glucose ingestion, SGU was significantly increased during the LIP vs. Sal infusion study (30 +/- 2 vs. 20 +/- 2%, P < 0.005). In conclusion, an elevation in plasma FFA concentration impairs whole body glucose R(d) and insulin-mediated suppression of EGP in healthy subjects but augments SGU.  相似文献

The effectiveness of orally ingested androstenediol in raising serum testosterone concentrations may be limited because of hepatic breakdown of the ingested androgens. Because androstenediol administered sublingually with cyclodextrin bypasses first-pass hepatic catabolism, we evaluated the acute hormonal response to sublingual cyclodextrin androstenediol supplement in young men. Eight men (22.9 +/- 1.2 yr) experienced in strength training consumed either 20 mg androstenediol in a sublingual cyclodextrin tablet (Sl Diol) or placebo (Pl) separated by at least 1 wk in a randomized, double-blind, crossover manner. Blood samples were collected before supplementation and at 30-min intervals for 3 h after supplementation. Serum hormone concentrations did not change with Pl. Serum androstenedione concentrations were increased (P < 0.05) above baseline (11.2 +/- 1.1 nmol/l) with Sl Diol from 60 to 180 min after intake and reached a peak concentration of 25.2 +/- 2.9 nmol/l at 120 min. Serum free testosterone concentrations were increased from 86.2 +/- 9.1 pmol/l with Sl Diol from 30 to 180 min and reached a peak concentration of 175.4 +/- 12.2 pmol/l at 60 min. Serum total testosterone concentrations increased above basal (25.6 +/- 2.3 nmol/l) from 30 to 180 min with Sl Diol and reached a peak concentration of 47.9 + 2.9 nmol/l at 60 min. Serum estradiol concentrations were elevated (P < 0.05) above baseline (0.08 +/- 0.01 nmol/l) from 30 to 180 min with Sl Diol and reached 0.14 +/- 0.02 nmol/l at 180 min. These data indicate that sublingual cyclodextrin androstenediol intake increases serum androstenedione, free testosterone, total testosterone, and estradiol concentrations.  相似文献
