During a floristic survey in the Belgaum district, Karnataka state, some specimens of Rotala L. were collected from a lateritic plateau in western Ghats, India. The specimens did not match with any previously described species of Rotala, but closely resembled R. macrandra Koehne and R. rosea (Poir.) C. D. K. Cook ex H. Hara in their exserted stamens and styles. The new species is described and illustrated here as Rotala belgaumensis S. R. Yadav, Malpure & Chandore.  相似文献

The genus Rhizomastix is a poorly known group of amoeboid heterotrophic flagellates living as intestinal commensals of insects, amphibians or reptiles, and as inhabitants of organic freshwater sediments. Eleven Rhizomastix species have been described so far, but DNA sequences from only a single species have been published. Recently, phylogenetic analyses confirmed a previous hypothesis that the genus belongs to the Archamoebae; however, its exact position therein remains unclear. In this study we cultured nine strains of Rhizomastix, both endobiotic and free‐living. According to their light‐microscopic morphology and SSU rRNA and actin gene analyses, the strains represent five species, of which four are newly described here: R. bicoronata sp. nov., R. elongata sp. nov., R. vacuolata sp. nov. and R. varia sp. nov. In addition, R. tipulae sp. nov., living in the intestine of crane flies, is separated from the type species, R. gracilis. We also examined the ultrastructure of R. elongata sp. nov., which revealed that it is more complicated than the previously described R. libera. Our data show that either the endobiotic lifestyle of some Rhizomastix species has arisen independently from other endobiotic archamoebae, or the free‐living members of this genus represent a secondary switch from the endobiotic lifestyle.  相似文献

A new species of halophilic photosynthetic bacteria, Rhodospirillum salinarum, has been isolated and described. Its natural habitat are the terminal crystallization ponds of solar salt production plants. R. salinarum grows optimally at 42°C in the presence of 6–18% NaCl (w/v). Growth requirements are complex, yeast extract and peptone being required both for aerobic heterotrophic and for anaerobic phototrophic growth. Increasing concentrations of NaCl in the growth media did not give rise to any corresponding increase in intracellular concentrations of K+, Na+, polyalcohols or amino acids. Malate dehydrogenase from R. salinarum is not halophilic, being inhibited even at low concentrations of Na+ or K+. The GC mol % of DNA from R. salinarum is markedly higher than that for DNA from R. salexigens, the only previously described halophilic species of the genus Rhodospirillum.  相似文献

Summary

Ten species of Rhopalostroma are currently known and all are from either Africa or Asia. Rhopalostroma gracile D. Hawksw. and R. kanyae Whalley &; Thienhirun have previously been reported from Thailand. A further species, R. lekae sp. no v., is now described from Thailand. Thus three out of the eleven known species of Rhopalostroma are from Thailand.  相似文献

In total, 160 ticks infesting cattle in the northeast region of Thailand were collected and used for molecular investigation. Three tick species—Rhipicephalus microplus Canestrini, Rhipicephalus haemaphysaloides Supino and Haemaphysalis bispinosa Neumann—were identified based on morphology and DNA sequences of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (CO1) and 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA). In total, 26 and seven unique haplotypes of the CO1 and 16S rRNA genes, respectively, were recovered. Phylogenetic analysis using the CO1 sequence revealed that the R. microplus from northeastern Thailand were grouped into the previously described clades A and C, whereas the 16S rRNA phylogenetic tree assigned all isolates of R. microplus from Northeast Thailand into the previously described clade B. Clade C of the CO1 phylogenetic tree is a new genetic assemblage recently discovered from India and Malaysia, which has now been detected in our study. The haplotype network also demonstrated that R. microplus is divided into two haplogroups corresponding to the assemblage of the CO1 phylogenetic tree. Our findings strongly support the previous genetic assemblage classification and evidence that R. microplus from Northeast Thailand is a species complex comprising at least two genetic assemblages, i.e., clades A and C. However, further investigation is needed and should involve more comprehensive genetic and morphological analyses and cover a larger part of their distributional range throughout Southeast Asia.

Two species of Rhipidocotyle are described from waters off the Scandola Nature Reserve, Corsica, France: these are the first records of these species from the Mediterranean Sea. R. capitata (Linton, 1940) from Auxis rochei and R. longicirrus (Nagaty, 1937) n. comb. (originally Bucephalopsis longicirrus Nagaty, 1937) from Seriola dumerili are also compared with similar species. R. capitata is similar to several other species of Rhipidocotyle from scombrids, but differs in the structure of the rhyncheal hood and other features. R. longicirrus has an angular, sucker-like rhynchus and, although not of a typical Rhipidocotyle-type, appears to be closer to this genus than to the other genera in which it has been previously placed.  相似文献

Study of the conversion of chlorophenols byRhodococcus opacus 1G,R. rhodnii 135,R. rhodochrous 89, andR. opacus 1cp disclosed the dependence of the conversion rate and pathway on the number and position of chlorine atoms in the aromatic ring. The most active chlorophenol converter, strainR. opacus 1cp, grew on each of the three isomeric monochlorophenols and on 2,4-dichlorophenol; the rate of growth decreased from 4-chlorophenol to 3-chlorophenol and then to 2-chlorophenol. The parameters of growth on 2,4-dichlorophenol were the same as on 3-chlorophenol. None of the strains studied utilized trichlorophenols. A detailed study of the pathway of chlorophenol transformation showed that 3-chloro-, 4-chloro-, and 2,4-dichlorophenol were utilized by the strains via a modifiedortho-pathway. 2-Chlorophenol and 2,3-dichlorophenol were transformed by strainsR. opacus 1cp andR. rhodochrous 89 via corresponding 3-chloro- and 3,4-dichlorocatechols, which were then hydroxylated with the formation of 4-chloropyrogallol and 4,5-dichloropyrogallol; this route had not previously been described in bacteria. Phenol hydroxylase ofR. opacus 1G exhibited a previously undescribed catalytic pattern, catalyzing oxidative dehalogenation of 2,3,5-trichlorophenol with the formation of 3,5-dichlorocatechol but not hydroxylation of the nonsubstituted position 6.  相似文献

Rhipidocotyle fennica n. sp. (= Rhipidocotyle Type A of Taskinen et al., 1991) from the intestine of Esox lucius in central Finland is described and compared by means of a principal components analysis (PCA) with R. campanula (= Rhipidocotyle Type B of Taskinen et al., 1991). Its cercaria develops in the bivalve Anodonta anatina and the metacercaria occurs in the skin and fins of Rutilus rutilus. The metacercaria is discriminated from that of R. campanula by PCA and is described along with aspects of the chaetotaxy of the cercaria. The new species is distinguished from R. campanula, R. kovalae, R. papillosa and R. septpapillata.  相似文献

A new species of the genus Rhodotorula was isolated from a tubeworm (Lamellibrachia sp.) collected at a depth of 1156 m in Sagami Bay, Japan. Strain SY-89 had physiological properties quite similar to R. aurantiaca. Two phylogenetic trees, one based on internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions and 5.8S rDNA sequences and the other based on the D1/D2 region of the large subunit (26S) rDNA sequences, united strain SY-89 to the type strain of Sakaguchia dacryoides through a considerable evolutionary distance. Strain SY-89 was differentiated from S. dacryoides by the G+C content of the nuclear DNA and differences in the ability to utilize specific carbon and nitrogen compounds. The low complementarity of strain SY-89 DNA to that of the type strain of S. dacryoides confirmed that this strain was genetically unrelated to previously known species. The tubeworm isolates are described as R. lamellibrachii sp. nov. The type strain of R. lamellibrachii is strain SY-89 (= JCM 10907). R. lamellibrachii formed a cluster with Erythrobasidium hasegawianum, R. lactosa, S. dacryoides and Sporobolomyces elongatus on the ITS and 5.8S rDNA phylogenetic tree. These five species shared a signature sequence in 26S rDNA, although this relationship was not supported by phylogeny based on the D1/D2 region of 26S rDNA.  相似文献

The following gill monogeneans are described, based on a survey of 240 Rastrelliger kanagurta, 12 R. faughni and 185 R. brachysoma (Scombridae) from many geographical areas: Eyelavera typica from R. kanagurta, R. faughni and R. brachysoma, Indomazocraes jagannath from R. kanagurta and R. faughni, Kuhnia sprostonae from R. kanagurta and R. brachysoma, and Kuhnia scombercolias from R. kanagurta and R. brachysoma. Eyelavera parukhini Lebedev, 1980 is synonymised with E. typica, Scomberocotyle eyela Unnithan, 1964 with Indomazocraes jagannath, Kuhnia microlepidotusi Gupta & Krishna, 1977 and K. kanagurta Mamaev & Parukhin, 1986 with K. sprostonae, K. arabica Mamaev & Parukhin, 1986 with K. scombercolias Nasir & Fuentes Zambrano, 1983. It is emphasized that populations of Monogenea from the same host species or genus in different geographical areas are likely to be conspecific, and should not be described as different species, if they differ only slightly from each other. Monogenea that differ from insufficiently described species in minor detail should not be described as new species unless material of the original species has been examined.  相似文献

Gonatopus javanus (R.C.L. Perkins) was newly recorded from Japan and India. The males collected together with females of G. javanus from Japan were identified as previously unknown opposite sex of the species because they share identical sequences of mitochondrial COI. The sequence was different from that of G. clavipes (Thunberg) by 11%. The male of G. javanus was described as new to science. Doratulina producta (Matsumura) is implied as host in Japan. The utility of molecular marker to identify the dryinid taxa showing sexual dimorphism is discussed.  相似文献

The genus Endohyalina is characterized by crustose, autonomous, or obligately lichenicolous thalli, lecideine apothecia with a hymenium often more or less inspersed with oil droplets and a brown hypothecium, Bacidia-type asci, small Dirinaria-type ascospores developing with type B ontogeny, bacilliform conidia and containing diploicin as the major secondary metabolite. The genus is based on four species previously included in RinodinaR. ericina s. lat., R. insularis, R. interjecta and R. kalbii—and on two lichenicolous species from the Canary Islands described here as new, Endohyalina brandii and E. diederichii. The generic type, Endohyalina rappii, is reduced to synonymy with E. ericina whereas E. circumpallida is excluded from the genus and returned to Buellia s. lat. Except for the thalline growth form and the common lichenicolous habit, the diagnostic characters of Endohyalina are akin to those of Diploicia. New chemical data on Endohyalina insularis and E. kalbii are reported, and a simple method for determining the secondary chemistry of lichenicolous fungi is provided.  相似文献

Tyrosinemia typeII (Richner-Hanhart syndrome, RHS) is a disorder of autosomal recessive inheritance characterized by keratitis, palmoplantar hyperkeratosis, mental retardation, and elevated blood tyrosine levels. The disease results from deficiency in hepatic tyrosine aminotransferase (TAT). We have previously described one deletion and six different point mutations in four RHS patients. We have now analyzed the TAT genes in a further seven unrelated RHS families from Italy, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States. We have established PCR conditions for the amplification of all twelve TAT exons and have screened the products for mutations by direct sequence analysis or by first performing single-strand conformation polymorphism analysis. We have thus identified the presumably pathological mutations in eight RHS alleles, including two nonsense mutations (R57X, E411X) and four amino acid substitutions (R119W, L201R, R433Q, R433W). Only the R57X mutation, which was found in one Scottish and two Italian families, has been previously reported in another Italian family. Haplotype analysis indicates that this mutation, which involves a CpG dinucleotide hot spot, has a common origin in the three Italian families but arose independently in the Scottish family. Two polymorphisms have also been detected, viz., a protein polymorphism, P15S, and a silent substitution S103S (TCG→TCA). Expression of R433Q and R433W demonstrate reduced activity of the mutant proteins. In all, twelve different TAT gene mutations have now been identified in tyrosinemia typeII.
