The calls produced by male katydids serve to attract femalesand repel rivals. Males generally exhibit overt aggressive responsesto conspecifics that call within their territories, and intermalespacing is maintained by properties of the call. Here we examinethe acoustic behavior of a zaprochiline katydid in which maleaggressive behavior and even the ability to detect conspecificsappear greatly reduced. Despite reduced hearing sensitivity,males were shown to detect and respond to the calls of conspecificsusing substrate-borne vibrations. During playback experimentsmales increased their calling rates by decreasing the intervalbetween chirps. However, rather than exhibit overt aggressionmales would simply change their calling sites when the intensityof playback song was increased. These results were supportedby observations of natural encounters between males in the field.The interval between chirps decreased as the distance betweencalling males decreased, and encounters were always terminatedwhen one male moved away from the other. We suggest that theloss in auditory sensitivity and reduced aggressive behaviorof this species may be a consequence of the necessity to aggregatearound highly localized feeding sites.  相似文献

The spermatodesms of Tylopsis liliifolia form in the most proximal follicular cysts and are composed of a large number of sperm held together by a cap located in the anterior region of the acrosome. The cap is formed by short thin fibrils, loosely arranged at random, probably derived from secretory activity of cells of the cyst wall. Compared to other Tettigoniidae, a peculiar feature is acrosomal wings that twist gradually around the anterior region of the nucleus; at the end of the twisting process, the region of the sperm acrosome, observed in cross section, shows a typical spiral form. Spermatodesms do not undergo any substantial changes in the spermiduct. The epithelial cells of the wall have secretory activity and many show marked spermiophagic activity, which is conducted by epithelial cell protrusions that envelop the gametes, taking them into the cytoplasm. When removed from seminal vesicles and observed in vivo, spermatodesms show accentuated corkscrew movement, and when observed by SEM, slight torsion. Thus organized, spermatodesms are transferred to the spermatophore during mating, where they are transformed before reaching the seminal receptacle.  相似文献

We carried out DNA barcoding on 24 Korean tettigonid species of 19 genera deposited in the National Institute of Biological Resources to reevaluate the preliminary identification of each specimen. Sequence divergence of DNA barcodes obtained from 113 samples of the 24 species ranged from 0 to 30.4%, the intraspecific variation was 0–7.3%, and the interspecific divergence was 1.1–30.4%; we could not examine the barcoding gap. In the neighbor‐joining tree, the branch length among individuals of Tettigonia ussuriana, Paratlanticus ussuriensis, and Hexacentrus japonicus were relatively longer than those in other species. The detailed analysis of the morphological characters and DNA barcodes of the above three species revealed that these three species represent species complexes. The T. ussuriana complex comprised T. jungi, T. uvarovi, and T. ussuriana. Paratlanticus ussuriensis cluster contained four species; one cluster was identified as P. palgongensis based on morphological characteristics, but the other three clusters, including the P. ussuriensis cluster, require further detailed taxonomic analysis. Lastly, two species clusters were identified within the Hexacentrus japonicus clade. Based on the 99% sequence similarity obtained by blast search of the NCBI GenBank database, one of the clusters was identified as H. unicolor. Thus, the DNA barcoding revealed the presence of at least three cryptic species in Korean Tettigoniidae, although more detailed taxonomic analyses are required to establish their status. Therefore, we suggest that DNA barcoding is a very useful tool for increasing the identification accuracy of insect collections.  相似文献

The distribution of Tettigoniinae (Orthoptera, Tettigoniidae) specieswithin four phytogeographical provinces in Turkey is reviewed and presented onthe basis of field and collection studies during 1987–2001 andmiscellaneous data from previous literature. One hundred and sixty speciesbelonging to 28 genera have been recorded. The Anatolian species constituteapproximately 30% of the world-wide species of the subfamily, with a very highproportion (83%) being endemic or semi-endemic, nearly all of which arebrachypterous. Regarding the numbers of total and endemic species, theprovinces can be ordered as follows: Mediterranean > Irano-Anatolian >Euxin > Mesopotamia. Also, Anatolian Tettigoniinae have a very high rate ofendemism in each province; 84.1% in the Mediterranean, 78.1% in Irano-Anatolia,56.3% in Mesopotamia and 42.4% in Euxin. The two provinces in Anatolia havingthe greatest species diversity are also the two most mountainous provinces, soit is suggested that a primary factor in Tettigoniinae diversity is theAnatolian Taurus mountains. Finally, some conclusions are drawn on biodiversityand conservation of Tettigoniinae species in Anatolia and I have suggested 23species to be included in the 'IUCN Red List' under VU B2+ac.  相似文献

Receptive females of the bushcricketRequena sp. 5 (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae) are attracted to male calls. In this experiment we investigate whether females discriminate between males on the basis of their calls. When virgin females were presented with two males of different size, they preferred the larger male. Larger males produce calls with a lower carrier frequency compared to smaller males, suggesting that females may use male carrier frequency as a predictor of male size. Furthermore, larger males produce heavier spermatophores. This suggests that females may prefer to mate with larger males to receive large nuptial gifts.  相似文献

Summary Orthoptera spermatids and spermatozoa from two species of Tettigoniidae and from one of Acrididae were analysed by means of the fluorescent lectins, concanavalin A or wheat-germ agglutinin, with the aim of finding -D mannose· -D glucose· N-acetylglucosamine and sialic acid sugar residues in their plasmamembrane glycoproteins. Labelling with lectins shows remarkable changes occurring in the plasma membrane during spermiogenesis. In early spermatids, the whole cell surface is labelled, but in mature spermatids and spermatozoa, a noticeable fluorescence is restricted to the membrane that covers the acrosome. The end piece of the tail of Acrididae spermatids and spermatozoa fluoresces after wheat-germ agglutinin labelling. The intense labelling of acrosomal area is independent of acrosomal size and shape, as shown by the marked differences observed in the acrosomes of Tettigoniidae compared with Acrididae: in the former, the acrosome is a well-developed structure with an arrow-like shape, but in Acrididae, the acrosome resembles a small vesicle in the anterior tip of the cell. The large amount of some sugar residues in the plasma membrane covering the acrosome is discussed in relation to the features observed in other species, and also in connection with the physiology of the male gamete prior or during fertilization.  相似文献

Summary The effect of drought on embryonic development and on hatching was studied in 13 European Tettigoniidae species. Drought can affect development in three different ways: (1) Embryonic development proceeds slower than if the eggs are in contact with water; (2) it stops (for final diapause) in an earlier embryonic stage; (3) it affects maintenance and termination of the initial embryonic diapause.In many Tettigoniidae species, the initial diapause is prolonged, and may last several years. Without draught stress, between 1 and 7 cold treatments in the laboratory, and with eggs of the Tettigonia-species between 1 and 6 winters in the field were necessary to enable all eggs to complete initial diapause. In Central European species, the number of eggs maintaining initial diapause significantly increased when the eggs had no contact with water at the time when they should recover from diapause. In contrast, termination of initial diapause in Tettigonia caudata from Greece, when the environment became favorable for growth again, was highest in that group of eggs that had lost most water in a preceding period of drought. The importance of the prolonged initial diapause for the survival of unpredictable adverse conditions is discussed.  相似文献

为阐明优雅蝈螽Gampsocleis gratiosa Brunner von Wattenwyl雄性附腺的结构与功能的关系, 本文利用透射电镜(transmission electron microscope, TEM)技术研究了优雅蝈螽雄性附腺的超微结构, 利用微分干涉相差显微镜(differential interference contrast microscope, DIC)技术并结合雄性附腺匀浆提取物与精子束在体外的短暂培养, 研究了优雅蝈螽雄性附腺对精子束的作用。结果表明: 优雅蝈螽雄性附腺3类腺管组织结构相似, 腺管管壁为单层上皮细胞, 缺少内表皮, 说明其来源于中胚层。上皮细胞富含粗面内质网、 线粒体、 高尔基体, 具有分泌细胞的特点。腺管管腔中分泌物有4种形态, 即电子透明的物质、 电子致密的颗粒物质、 细纤维状物质以及绒球状物质。上皮细胞的分泌方式主要有2种, 即顶质分泌和局部分泌。乳白短腺管的匀浆提取物参与了帽状精子束解聚的过程, 乳白长腺管和透明腺管的匀浆提取物有维持精子束活性的作用。本研究结果为进一步阐明螽斯雄性附腺的生理功能奠定了基础。  相似文献

A morphological, histological and ultrastructural study was carried out on the spermiducts and seminal vesicles of some species of Acrididae and Tettigoniidae. In all the species examined, the spermiducts and seminal vesicles have a monolayered secretory epithelium. Only the species of Acrididae have the sac with a flattened epithelium. Furthermore, in the most distal tubule region of the seminal vesicles of Eyprepocnemis plorans plorans, a rather characteristic secretory mechanism was found: the cytoplasm of the epithelial cells contained a large vesicle delimited by tightly packed microvilli. Numerous small vesicles open into this large vesicle which gradually dilates to merge with the apical plasma membrane releasing its contents into the lumen. Spermiophagic activity was found in all the species investigated. In the Tettigoniidae, this activity was found only in some epithelial cells of the seminal vesicle wall; in the species of the Acrididae the spermiophagic activity was carried out in the spermiduct lumen by an epithelial‐type cellular group. Spermiophagic activity is discussed as well as its role in the reproduction of these insects.  相似文献

Edge effects are increasingly recognised as a threat to interior species, but the influence of edges on open habitats has rarely been addressed so far. We investigated the diversity pattern of the Orthoptera fauna across a habitat edge between a pine plantation and a natural steppe ecosystem. Thirty pitfall traps were positioned along a transect line from 80 m in the forest to 208 m in the grassland at 10 fixed distances from the edge. The orthopteran assemblage of the pine plantation was depauperate in species and individuals and, with a few exceptions, lacked steppe species. We found no increase in species richness at the forest–grassland edge. In the grassland, Orthoptera species numbers increased steadily with increasing distance from the forest edge. Two-phase regression analysis revealed a traceable edge effect up to about 30 m into the grassland. This effect was exclusively caused by an increase in acridid species numbers, while tettigoniid species numbers showed no clear relation to edge distance. Correlation analysis of the habitat variables suggested that this pattern is a result of irradiance and soil temperature sums. Since acridids show species-specific temperature requirements for their development, shading of the soil surface prevents a number of species from completing their life cycle. We suggest that present trends of shrub encroachment and eutrophication of dry grassland habitats in eastern Austria are serious threats for a large part of the orthopteran fauna.  相似文献

本文应用微分干涉相衬法对优雅蝈螽Gampsocleis gratiosa Brunner von Wattenwyl和暗褐蝈螽G. sedakovii (Fischer von Waldheim) 雄性精巢管基部、输精管、贮精囊和精包,及雌性受精囊中精子束的形态变化进行了观察,对探讨螽斯近缘种的生殖隔离机制和生殖生物学具有重要意义.结果表明:这两种蝈螽的精子束通过精包转移到雌性受精囊后,精子束的形态发生了显著变化.精巢管基部的精子为游离的单个精子;输精管、贮精囊和精包中精子成束排列形成较分散的精子束,精子束头部包裹有粘液帽;雌性受精囊中的精子束的精子呈羽状排列,精子的头部汇集在中央轴上.两种蝈螽精子束形态差异不显著.  相似文献

Food stress in the katydid Requena veriicalis (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae)decreases the relative availability of males able to supplynutritious spermatophores to females and increases the valueof the male courtship meal (i.e., relative male parental investment).These changes cause female sexual competition in katydid populations.Here we examine the effect of food stress on male and femaleinvestment in single offspring and test the prediction thatmale-derived nutrients in eggs increase relative to nutrientsfrom the female's reserves. We varied the diet of female R.veriicalis and determined the fate of nutrients from male andfemale sources using I4C and 3H radiolabeled amino acids. Low-dietfemales retained more nutrients from male and female sourcesin somatic tissues and invested less in reproduction both becausethey produced fewer eggs and because they invested less peroffspring (egg) than females maintained on a high-quality diet.Moreover, opposite to our prediction, relative male investmentin individual eggs decreased in foodstressed females; femalesretained more nutrients in somatic tissues from the male sourcethan the female source. Food-stressed females may retain nutrientreserves, particularly those from the male, as an adaptive trategyfor immediate survival needs and future reproduction. Such afemale strategy is unlikely to compromise male reproductivesuccess; first-male sperm precedence means that males matingwith virgin females are likely to father most eggs laid, evenin future reproductive bouts. The decrease in male investmentin eggs of low-diet females does not conflict with the contentionthat relative parental investment controls male intrasexualcompetition because, in mate-feeding species, male investmentinfluencing this competition includes more than investment incurrent offspring; females should compete for males if courtshipgifts aid survival and later reproduction.  相似文献

The microsporidium Heterovesicula cowani, discovered in 1985, was initially identified as Vairimorpha sp. because it produces two types of spores: Nosema-like diplokaryotic spores and Thelohania-like mononuclear meiospores. However, light and electron microscopy studies revealed characters that did not fit any known microsporidian genera, and a new monotypic genus Heterovesicula was erected. The goal of this study was to test the validity of the genus Heterovesicula by molecular characterization of H. cowani and to assess its phylogenetic relationships to other microsporidia from insects. DNA from spores stored at −32 °C since 1992 was isolated and PCR-amplified with V1-1492 primers to obtain a partial small subunit ribosomal RNA gene sequence of 1165 bp, which was submitted to GenBank (Accession No. EU275200). Neighbor joining, maximum parsimony and maximum likelihood analyses performed against 18 microsporidia sequences, placed H. cowani as a sister taxon to the Nosema–Vairimorpha clade. The consensus of these analyses suggests that the Heterovesicula–Nosema–Vairimorpha group forms a dichotomy with the Encephalitozoon spp. branch. Other microsporidia parasitizing Orthoptera fell into two unrelated (or distantly related) lineages of terrestrial microsporidia: the Liebermannia spp. branch forms a dichotomy with Orthosomella operophterae within the Endoreticulatus–Orthosomella–Liebermannia group; and the Paranosema spp. branch clusters together with the Tubulinosema–Systenostrema lineage. The minimum pairwise distance in Kimura-2-Parameter analysis among 18 analyzed sequences was 0.37, which supports well the generic status for Heterovesicula. The obtained phylogenetic trees suggest that H. cowani is related to the Vairimorpha necatrix group, but not to other insect microsporidia producing octospores.  相似文献

目前关于螽斯科昆虫的线粒体基因组全序列及其分子进化的研究报道很少。本研究利用L-PCR技术结合嵌套步移PCR扩增获得纺织娘Mecopoda elongata和日本纺织娘M. niponensis的线粒体基因组全序列, 同时对二者之间的碱基组成和结构特点进行了比较分析。结果显示: 纺织娘线粒体基因组(GenBank登录号JQ917910)序列全长15 284 bp, A+T含量71.8%; 日本纺织娘线粒体基因组(GenBank登录号 JQ917909)序列全长15 364 bp, A+T含量72.4%; 2种纺织娘序列长度差异主要是控制区长度不同引起(纺织娘控制区长294 bp, 日本纺织娘控制区长393 bp)。2种纺织娘基因组基因含量、 相对位置及转录方向均与其他已报道的螽斯科昆虫一致, 未发现基因重排现象; 基因组中均存在较长的间隔序列, 在trnA/trnR之间的间隔序列长度分别为63 bp与68 bp, 在trnQ/trnM之间的分别为55 bp和26 bp, 在trnSUCN/nad1之间的均为21 bp。而最长的基因重叠区域在2种纺织娘trnC/trnW之间均为8 bp, 在atp8/atp6和nad4L/nad4L之间均为7 bp。蛋白质编码基因的碱基组成和密码子使用均具有明显的偏倚性; 除nad1和nad2以特殊的TTG作为起始密码子, cox1使用特殊的起始密码子ATGA外, 其余的10种蛋白质编码基因均使用典型的ATN作为起始密码子。在tRNA基因中, 除trnSAGN外, 均能折叠形成典型的三叶草形二级结构。在这些tRNA基因中均存在一定数目的以G-U错配为主的碱基错配, 类似现象同样存在于其他已测定的六足动物线粒体基因组中, 表明G-U配对在线粒体基因组中很可能是一种完全正常的碱基配对方式。基因组中控制区的A+T含量略低于线粒体基因组的其他区域, 表明高A+T含量并不是该区域的必要特征。本研究结果为螽斯科系统发生关系重建积累了有价值的数据资料。  相似文献

【目的】螽斯精子结构复杂,具有特征性的箭头状顶体,是研究昆虫精子形成的理想材料。为了研究螽斯精子形成过程中的动态变化机制,特别是细胞核的凝集机制和箭头状顶体的发生机制,本研究对优雅蝈螽Gampsocleis gratiosa精细胞和精子的细胞核进行了观察。【方法】选择发育良好的优雅蝈螽成虫精巢为研究材料,利用透射电镜技术、普通光学显微镜和荧光显微镜技术,制作光镜切片和电镜切片进行观察。【结果】根据其形态结构变化特征,将优雅蝈螽精子形成过程中的细胞核分为4个阶段:圆形核、叶形核、柱状核和成熟阶段。我们还通过常规HE染色,结合DNA特异性荧光探针DAPI,证明了圆形核时期,精细胞内具有两个明显的球状结构,一个为细胞核,另一个是原顶体;精子成熟阶段,精子尾部排出的细胞质微滴中含有DNA。【结论】优雅蝈螽精子形成过程中,精细胞的细胞核经历了显著的形态变化,精细胞核的形态变化与细胞骨架微管相关,细胞核塑形伴随着染色质的重组。本研究为进一步阐明直翅目昆虫精子形成的分子机制奠定了基础。  相似文献

Summary The postembryonic development of the morphology and anatomy of the complex tibial organ in the foreleg of the bushcricket Ephippiger ephippiger is described. All the receptor cells are present in the subgenual organ, the intermediate organ and the crista acustica in the 1st larval instar. Generally, even in the 1st instar, the arrangement of the scolopidia in the three organs resembles the adult structure. The acoustic trachea, the tympana, the tympanal covers and the acoustic spiracle develop step by step in subsequent instars. The acoustic trachea resembles the adult structure for the first time in the 4th instar, although its volume is still small. The auditory threshold curves recorded from the tympanal nerve in instars 4, 5 and 6 show the same frequency maxima as those in the adult. The overall sensitivity significantly increases after the final moult. The dimensions of structures that lie within the crista acustica and that are probably involved in stimulus transduction and in frequency tuning have been analysed. The dorsal wall of the anterior trachea, the tectorial membrane and the cap cells have similar dimensions, especially in the last three instars and in adults.  相似文献

The value of pitfall trapping was questioned in a recent review of methods for sampling Orthoptera in grassland ecosystems. However, subsequent to the publication of this review, interesting data has become available from pitfall trapping at Colne Point, an important coastal nature reserve in Essex, UK. As a result of this trapping, the nationally scarce and Essex Red Data List species, Platycleis albopunctata, was rediscovered in the county. This tettigoniid was believed to be extinct in Essex as previous visual searches for the insect at Colne Point had failed to locate it. Large numbers of the Essex Red Data List species, Myrmeleotettix maculatus, were also captured, as were specimens of the nationally scarce cockroach, Ectobius panzeri (Dictyoptera). Systematic pitfall trapping at Colne Point was therefore pivotal in recording scarce species such as P. albopunctata which had proved difficult to locate by visual searching methods.  相似文献
