We present exact conditions for stability of monomorphic equilibria in a general multilocus multiallele system and of specific polymorphic equilibria in general one- and two-locus multiallele systems. We show how these exact results on one- and two-locus systems can be used in approximate analysis of polymorphic equilibria in multilocus systems under selection strong relative to recombination. We determine conditions for existence and stability of polymorphic equilibria in specific models of quadratic stabilizing selection on additive polygenic traits.  相似文献

A sexually-transmitted disease model for two strains of pathogen in a one-sex, heterogeneously-mixing population has been studied completely by Jiang and Chai in (J Math Biol 56:373-390, 2008). In this paper, we give a analysis for a SIS STD with two competing strains, where populations are divided into three differential groups based on their susceptibility to two distinct pathogenic strains. We investigate the existence and stability of the boundary equilibria that characterizes competitive exclusion of the two competing strains; we also investigate the existence and stability of the positive coexistence equilibrium, which characterizes the possibility of coexistence of the two strains. We obtain sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence and global stability about these equilibria under some assumptions. We verify that there is a strong connection between the stability of the boundary equilibria and the existence of the coexistence equilibrium, that is, there exists a unique coexistence equilibrium if and only if the boundary equilibria both exist and have the same stability, the coexistence equilibrium is globally stable or unstable if and only if the two boundary equilibria are both unstable or both stable.  相似文献

 We analyze monomorphic equilibria of long-term evolution for one or two continuous traits, controlled by an arbitrary number of autosomal loci and subject to constant viability selection. It turns out that fitness maximization always obtains at long term equilibria, but in the case of two traits, linkage determines the precise nature of the fitness measure that is maximized. We then consider local convergence to long term equilibria, for two multilocus traits subject to either constant or frequency dependent selection. From a model of long-term dynamics near an equilibrium we derive a criterion of local long-term stability for 2-dimensional equilibria. A formalism based on piecewise-linear (PL) differential equations, originally due to Glass and Kauffman, has been shown to be well-suited to modelling genetic regulatory networks. However, the discontinuous vector field inherent in the PL models raises some mathematical problems in defining solutions on the surfaces of discontinuity. To overcome these difficulties we use the approach of Filippov, which extends the vector field to a differential inclusion. We study the stability of equilibria (called singular equilibrium sets) that lie on the surfaces of discontinuity. We prove several theorems that characterize the stability of these singular equilibria directly from the state transition graph, which is a qualitative representation of the dynamics of the system. We also formulate a stronger conjecture on the stability of these singular equilibrium sets.  相似文献

Understanding how complexity persists in nature is a long-standing goal of ecologists. In theoretical ecology, local stability is a widely used measure of ecosystem persistence and has made a major contribution to the ecosystem stability-complexity debate over the last few decades. However, permanence is coming to be regarded as a more satisfactory definition of ecosystem persistence and has relatively recently become available as a tool for assessing the global stability of Lotka-Volterra communities. Here we document positive relationships between permanence and Lotka-Volterra food web complexity and report a positive correlation between the probability of local stability and permanence. We investigate further the frequency of discrepancy (attributed to fragile systems that are locally stable but not permanent or locally unstable systems that are permanent and have cyclic or chaotic dynamics), associate non-permanence with the local stability or instability of equilibria on the boundary of the state-space, and investigate how these vary with aspects of ecosystem complexity. We find that locally stable interior equilibria tend to have all locally unstable boundary equilibria. Since a locally stable boundary is inconsistent with permanent dynamics, this can explain the observed positive correlation between local interior stability and permanence. Our key finding is that, at least in Lotka-Volterra model ecosystems, local stability may be a better measure of persistence than previously thought.  相似文献

We present a mathematical bioeconomic model of a fishery with a variable price. The model describes the time evolution of the resource, the fishing effort and the price which is assumed to vary with respect to supply and demand. The supply is the instantaneous catch while the demand function is assumed to be a monotone decreasing function of price. We show that a generic market price equation (MPE) can be derived and has to be solved to calculate non trivial equilibria of the model. This MPE can have 1, 2 or 3 equilibria. We perform the analysis of local and global stability of equilibria. The MPE is extended to two cases: an age-structured fish population and a fishery with storage of the resource.  相似文献

HBV(HePatitis B virus)是一种具有严重传染性的肝炎病毒,迄今为止,人们对它的免疫和慢性化的机制等方面还不甚了解。本文基于相关的病理知识,对应的建立了具有时滞的微分方程数学模型,系统地探讨了肝炎B病毒与宿主细胞之间的关系,利用Lyapunov函数方法研究了病毒动力学模型感染平衡点的局部稳定性和未感染平衡点全局稳定性,并利用数学模拟验证了理论分析。结果表明时滞的存在不会影响到感染平衡点的局部稳定性,但能影响平衡点到达的时间跨度,对于药物治疗的疗程和治疗时机的确定有参考意义。  相似文献

We consider an HIV pathogenesis model incorporating antiretroviral therapy and HIV replication time. We investigate the existence and stability of equilibria, as well as Hopf bifurcations to sustained oscillations when drug efficacy is less than 100%. We derive sufficient conditions for the global asymptotic stability of the uninfected steady state. We show that time delay has no effect on the local asymptotic stability of the uninfected steady state, but can destabilize the infected steady state, leading to a Hopf bifurcation to periodic solutions in the realistic parameter ranges.  相似文献

The vast majority of our knowledge on protein stability arises from the study of simple two-state models. However, proteins displaying equilibrium intermediates under certain conditions abound and it is unclear whether the energetics of native/intermediate equilibria is well represented in current knowledge. We consider here that the overall conformational stability of three-state proteins is made of a "relevant" term and a "residual" one, corresponding to the free energy differences of the native to intermediate (N-to-I) and intermediate to denatured (I-to-D) equilibria, respectively. The N-to-I free energy difference is considered to be the relevant stability because protein-unfolding intermediates are likely devoid of biological activity. We use surface charge optimisation to first increase the overall (N-to-D) stability of a model three-state protein (apoflavodoxin) and then investigate whether the stabilisation obtained is realised into relevant or into residual stability. Most of the mutations designed from electrostatic calculations or from simple sequence conservation analysis produce large increases in the overall stability of the protein. However, in most cases, this simply leads to similarly large increases of the residual stability. Two mutations, nevertheless, show a different trend and increase the relevant stability of the protein substantially. When all the mutations are mapped onto the structure of the apoflavodoxin thermal-unfolding intermediate (obtained independently by equilibrium phi-analysis and NMR) they cluster perfectly so that the mutations increasing the relevant stability appear in the small unstructured region of the intermediate and the others in the native-like region. This illustrates the need for specific investigation of N-to-I equilibria and the structure of protein intermediates, and indicates that it is possible to rationally stabilise a protein against partial unfolding once the structure of the intermediate conformation is known, even if at low resolution.  相似文献

We compare the stability properties of haploid and diploid models of Fisherian sexual selection (with male contribution limited to sperm) by examining both models at equilibria for which a male trait is fixed or absent. Haploid and diploid two locus diallelic models share the property that the stability of such fixation equilibria is determined by the relationship between the harmonic mean of relative preference values for the common male trait, weighted by the frequency of the preferences, and the relative viability associated with the common male trait. When diploid females with heterozygotic-based preferences express preference strengths intermediate between homozygote-based preferences, then boundary equilibria of haploid and diploid models share many stability properties. However, even with intermediate heterozygote preferences, haploid and diploid models do differ: (1) for a particular frequency of the preference allele, both fixation boundaries can be stable for the diploid model, and (2) with over- or underdominance at the preference locus (a possibility precluded in the haploid model), a fixation boundary in the diploid model may show two switches in its stability state for increasing frequencies of one of the preference alleles. These differences are due not just to the impossibility of dominance in haploid models, but also to the larger number of diploid genotypes.  相似文献

In this model the population is divided into three subgroups of susceptible, asymptomatic and infective individuals. It has been shown that this system has no periodic solutions and all its trajectories tend to the equilibria of the system. We use the Poincaré Index theorem to determine the number of the equilibria and their stability properties. We have shown that bistability occurs for suitable values of parameters and found a set of examples of all possible dynamics of the system.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the global stability of the models which incorporate humoural immunity or cell-mediated immunity. We consider the effect of loss of a pathogen, which is called the absorption effect when it infects an uninfected cells. We construct Lyapunov functions for these models under some conditions of parameters, and prove the global stability of the interior equilibria. It is impossible to remove the condition of parameters for the model incorporating humoural immunity.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the stability property of single-species patches connected by diffusion with a within-patch dynamics of Volterra type and with continuous time delays. We prove that this system can only have two kinds of equilibria: the positive and the trivial one. By the assumption that the delay kernels are convex combinations of suitable non-negative and normalized functions, the linear chain trick gives an expanded system of O.D.E. with the same stability properties as the original integro-differential system. Homotopy function techniques provide sufficient conditions for the existence of the positive equilibrium and for its global stability. We also prove the local stability of any positive equilibrium and the local instability both of positive and trivial equilibria. The biological meanings of the results obtained are compared with known results from the literature. This work was performed under the auspices of G.N.F.M., C.N.R. We study the equilibrium structure of a well-known two-locus model in which two diallelic loci contribute additively to a quantitative trait that is under Gaussian stabilizing selection. The population is assumed to be infinitely large, randomly mating, and having discrete generations. The two loci may have arbitrary effects on the trait, the strength of selection and the recombination rate may also be arbitrary. We find that 16 different equilibrium patterns exist, having up to 11 equilibria; up to seven interior equilibria may coexist, and up to four interior equilibria, three in negative and one in positive linkage disequilibrium, may be simultaneously stable. Also, two monomorphic and two fully polymorphic equilibria may be simultaneously stable. Therefore, the result of evolution may be highly sensitive to perturbations in the initial conditions or in the underlying genetic parameters. For the special case of equal effects, global stability results are proved. In the general case, we rely in part on numerical computations. The results are compared with previous analyses of the special case of extremely strong selection, of an approximate model that assumes linkage equilibrium, and of the much simpler quadratic optimum model.  相似文献
