Plants of kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.), grown in southern Florida in 1964, yielded significantly more seed when spaced 5 inches apart in 7-inch rows than when spaced farther apart, up to 15 × 28 inches. Plants grown from seed planted on August 10 yielded significantly more seed than those from seed planted later at 10-day intervals, from August 20 to September 29. A progressive decline in yield was associated with wider plant-and-row spacmgs and with later plantings.  相似文献

K S Schmitz 《Biopolymers》1971,10(4):767-775
The matrix method is used for calculating the grand partition function for the reaction: 2 polymer + solute = complex. The homogeneous polymers are assumed to have two types of sites within each nucleotide unit: sites for the polymer–polymer association, i.e., (p-p) sites; sites for polymer–solute association i.e., (p-s) sites. The respective binding parameters, P and F , and nearest-neighbor interaction parameters, W and S , are assumed independent. Complications due to ring entropy are avoided by rest riding the model to one-solute-stack systems, which are physically realizable when the reciprocal of the solute cooperativity parameter is much larger than the number of nucleotides in the polymer. The 4 × 4 generating matrix is shown to be a tensor product of two 2 × 2 matrices, each the generating matrix of a particular type of site. The scalar product of the 4 × 4 matrix is shown to be equivalent to the scalar product of a 2 × 2 matrix in the weak interaction limit, W ≈ 0. Calculations are presented for the general case which restricts the (p-s) association to occur only with (p-p) associated nucleotide units. The nature of the binding curve in relation to partitioning the total interaction energy (F + P + S + W ) among the parameters is discussed. Also presented is a criterion for neglecting possible states in the calculation of the grand partition function.  相似文献

The interaction of magnesium ions with Des-Trp1-Nle12-minigastrin I (Nle11-HG-13) and Nle115-little gastrin I (Nle15-HG-17) has been studied by CD and spectrophotometric techniques in trifluoroethanol. Spectrophotometric titrations using murexide as a metallochromic indicator showed that there are three binding sites for magnesium ions in Nle11-HG-13, with binding constants of the order of (6 ± 2) × 106, (1.7 ± 0.5) × 106, and (5.0 ± 0.5) × 105M?1. These figures have been independently confirmed by CD measurements in the far-uv in the presence of increasing amounts of magnesium ions. Elongation of the peptide chain from Nle11-HG-13 to Nle15-HG-17 does not provide any additional binding site for the metal ions. In both hormones, we have observed different responses in the near- and fur-uv CD properties with regard to added magnesium. The intensity of the CD bands in the aromatic region changes cooperatively with the ion/hormone molar ratio. These findings lead us to conclude that at the C-terminal, the biologically important sequence, -Trp-Nle-Asp-Phe-Nh2, is directly involved in the interaction with magnesium.  相似文献

Quantitative and qualitative studies of the bacterial flora of farmed freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) larvae in Saudi Arabia were performed, and isolates identified where possible. Physico‐chemical characteristics, bacterial counts, and the nature of the bacterial flora of larvae rearing tank water, sediment, tank wall surfaces, larval surface, supplied water, and feed were investigated. Bacterial counts ranged from 2.1 ± 1.3 × 105 to 2.2 ± 0.8 × 107 colony forming units (CFU) ml?1 in tank water; 4.4 ± 0.9 × 107 to 8.3 ± 1.7 ×109 CFU g?1 in tank sediment; 8.6 ± 1.0 × 102 to 9.8 ±0.7 × 104 CFU cm?2 on the tank wall surface; 1.3 ± 1.1 × 104 to 7.7 ± 1.6 × 106 CFU per larva surface, 7.9 ± 1.2 × 105 to 5.0 ± 1.5 × 107 CFU g?1 in washed larval tissue slurries, 9.1 ± 0.7 × 103 CFU ml?1 in supplied water, and 2.4 ± 1.9 ×1010 CFU g?1 in mixed feed. Fourteen bacterial genera were identified, including Chryseomonas sp., Vibrio spp., Cellulomonas sp., Aeromonas hydrophila, and Pasteurella sp. The tank water and sediment had similar bacteria to those on the prawn larvae. Chryseomonas sp., Cellulomonas sp. and Vibrio sp. were the most dominant species (prevalence >10%) in tank water; Chryseomonas sp., Pseudomonas alcaligenes and Shewanella putrefaciens in the sediment; Ps. alcaligenes and Cellulomonas sp. on the tank wall surface; Chryseomonas sp., and Cellulomonas sp. on the larval surface; and Chryseomonas sp., Vibrio vulnificus, Sh. putrefaciens and V. alginolyticus in the washed larval tissue slurries (prevalence 10%). Pseudomonas alcaligenes, Moraxella sp., Serratia liquefaciens, Gordona sp. and Burkholderia glumae were absent in larvae but identified in the culture water, tank sediment, and tank wall surface. Pseudomonas sp., Chryseomonas sp., Pasteurella sp. and V. alginolyticus were the prevalent bacteria (>12%) in supplied water. The feed contained V. alginolyticus, A. hydrophila and Cellulomonas sp. as the dominant bacteria (>13%). In the culture water and larvae samples, 83% of the feed and supplied water bacteria were identified.  相似文献
