Local microbial tolerance was investigated in a murine model of peritonitis. Peritoneal bacterial burden and inflammatory cytokine concentrations were determined at different times, within 48 h after infection. Peritoneal macrophages were harvested from naïve mice or from mice 48 h after infection and underwent ex vivo stimulation with different concentrations of Klebsiella. Cytokine secretion was determined in the supernatants. Peritoneal bacteria concentrations, remained relatively steady between 24 h (median: 5.04 log CFU) and 48 h (median: 5.19 log CFU) after infection. Peritoneal cytokine concentrations peaked early but were already diminished at 48 h after infection, despite persistent high bacteria levels. Macrophages, harvested from naïve mice responded vigorously to ex vivo stimulation with 105 CFU and 2 × 108 CFU Klebsiella. Cells harvested from animals 48 h after infection, were unresponsive to an ex vivo stimulation with 105 CFU Klebsiella, but fully responded to 108 CFU. Persistent intraabdominal bacterial infection induced dose dependent microbial tolerance in peritoneal macrophages.  相似文献

We describe the behavioral repertoire of captive-born black tufted-eared marmosets (Callithrix penicillata) elicited by brief exposures to three potential mounted taxidermized predators (caracara hawk, Polyborus plancus; rattlesnake, Crotalus durissus; oncilla, Leopardus tigrina), and a stuffed toy. For each of the four stimuli, we submitted the subjects to a 9-min trial divided into three consecutive intervals: a 4-min pre-exposure baseline observation, a 1-min stimulus exposure, and a 4-min postexposure observation period. We positioned stimuli in front of each subject's home cage, and video-taped trials for behavioral analysis. During exposures to the potential taxidermized predators, we heard tsik-tsik vocalization and alarm behavior. After exposures, only the cat induced these reactions. All stimuli elicited observational reaction, albeit only during exposure intervals. Further comparisons between the three trial intervals indicated a decrease in the time spent in proximity to the cat during exposures, while an increase in proximity occurred when subjects were exposed to either the hawk or snake for the same period. Taken together, the behavioral responses during and after exposures to the taxidermized oncilla suggest that this stimulus is capable of inducing strong and persistent emotional reactions in Callithrix penicillata.  相似文献

The dampwood termite, Zootermopsis angusticollis is known to generate humoral immune responses to the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium anisopliae. However, little is known about how the termite's cellular immune system reacts to fungal infection. To test the effect of conidia exposure on cellular immunity, we quantified the number and types of hemocytes in the hemolymph of naïve nymphs and compared their circulating counts with those of nestmates exposed to 0, 2 × 103, 2 × 106 or 2 × 108 conidia/ml doses. These termites were then bled and their hemocytes counted on days 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 post-exposure. Our results show, first, that naïve Z. angusticollis nymphs have three different blood cell types tentatively identified as granular hemocytes, prohemocytes and plasmatocytes. In these individuals, plasmatocytes were on average 13.5 and 3.3 times more numerous than granular hemocytes and prohemocytes, respectively. Second, a full factorial general linear analysis indicated that hemocyte type, time elapsed since conidia exposure and conidia dosage as well as all their interactions explained 43% of the variability in hemocyte density. The numbers of prohemocytes and particularly plasmatocytes, but not granular hemocytes, appear to be affected by the progression of disease. The decline in hemocyte numbers coincided with the appearance of hyphal bodies and the onset of “sluggish” termite behavior that culminated in the insect's death. Hemocyte counts of infected males and females were affected to the same extent. Hence, M. anisopliae overtakes the cellular immune responses of Z. angusticollis mainly by destroying the host's most abundant hemocyte types.  相似文献

Using multistate Arnson-Schwartz (AS) mark-recapture models, we show that naïve (captive reared) juvenile southern rock lobsters (Jasus edwardsii, Hutton 1875) survived as well as wild-caught lobsters when released to an area of coastal reef. Lobsters captured as pueruli were ongrown in tanks for 12 to 18 months where they were fed to satiation in the absence of predators. Lobsters were marked with antennal tags each carrying a unique code, and released to coastal reef along with tagged wild-caught lobsters of similar size. During 8 dive surveys of the release reef and 3 surveys of adjacent reefs over a 28 day period, divers resighted 40.3% of the naïve lobsters and 70.2% of the wild lobsters. We show that this discrepancy is a function of differing movement rates and spatial differences in resighting probability. The probability of naïve lobsters moving from the release reef to adjacent areas in the first 4 days post-release (0.72 ± 0.04 S.E.) was almost twice that of wild-caught lobsters (0.38 ± 0.08 S.E.). This behavioural difference did not influence daily apparent survival (0.98 ± 0.016 S.E.), which was constant between groups and over time. Our results are encouraging for the potential of enhancing spiny lobster stocks by releasing juveniles, and demonstrate the utility of AS mark-recapture models as a tool for evaluating medium-term survival of mobile marine species.  相似文献

The aerial/terrestrial scan and glance behaviors of 20 captive adult black tufted-ear marmosets (Callithrix penicillata), kept undisturbed in their own familiar social environments, were assessed at 07:00, 09:00, 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00 h, as little is known on the temporal organization of their vigilance repertoire, particularly under normal social and stress-free conditions. For each time point, four 20-min observation sessions were held. Although general high vigilance rates were observed, significantly more time was spent scanning the upper part of the home-cage, particularly during the earliest and latest hours of the day. Significantly higher terrestrial than aerial glance frequencies were also seen, yet both remained constant throughout the day. Therefore, the observed pattern not only varied significantly according to the specific vigilance behavior and time of day, but also seemed associated with eco-physiological factors, such as the search/intake of food, sleep site selection and higher risk of air-born threats.  相似文献

Limited data are available on the long-term effect an encounter with a predator has on its potential prey. Anecdotal reports from field research indicate that even unsuccessful attacks by predators on callitrichids have long-lasting effects. The subjects for this study were two groups of Geoffroy's marmosets (Callithrix geoffroyi) housed outside, off exhibit, at the Center for Reproduction of Endangered Species at the San Diego Wild Animal Park. Before they retired in the evening, the marmosets were observed under one of three conditions: snake model, cloth control, and no-stimulus control. Data were collected the following morning for 1 hr after the animals emerged from the sleeping box. Compared to control conditions, exposure to the snake model before retirement the previous evening was associated with significantly more vigilance checks (i.e., inspecting the area where the stimulus was last seen), and a delay in beginning to forage on the ground. These results suggest that callitrichids use recent threatening experiences to guide their vigilance behavior 12 hr after the threat is detected, and that they adjust their early morning behavior in response to potential predatory threats.  相似文献

Pop-up satellite archival tags (PSATs) were attached to 31 ocean sunfish, Mola mola. in the Northwest Atlantic between 2005 and 2008, in order to examine their vertical movement and behavior. Tags remained attached from 7 to 242 days, with a mean attachment period of 107.2 ± 80.6 (SD) days. Fish spent greater than 30% of their time in the top 10 m of the water column, and over 80% of time in the top 200 m. The maximum depth recorded by any fish was 844 m. Temperatures experienced by tagged fish ranged from 6 to 30 °C. Vertical behavior of M. mola changed over short-term and seasonal scales. Ocean sunfish in northeastern US waters in the summer months inhabited shallower depths and spent more time at the surface than those that moved south in the winter and spring. This shift from shallow to deeper depths was especially apparent when fish entered the Gulf Stream, where they spent little time at the surface and dove to depths of 400-800 m. A diel pattern was observed in vertical behavior. Tagged fish spent more time at depth during the day and inhabited shallower waters at night. There was no observed relationship between the amount of time per day that fish spent in cold water (< 10 °C) and the amount of time fish spent near the surface (0-6 m), indicating a lack of evidence for M. mola basking at the surface as a mechanism for behavioral thermoregulation.  相似文献

The objective of this experiment was to determine if duration of daily bull exposure influences length of postpartum anestrus in primiparous, anovular, suckled, beef cows. The null hypotheses were that intervals from calving or the start of bull exposure (D 0) to resumption of ovulatory activity (OA), and proportions of cows that resumed OA during the experiment does not differ among cows exposed to bulls for 0 h, 6 h, or 12 h daily, and that there is no relationship between the duration of bull exposure and interval to resumption of OA in cows exposed to bulls for 0 h, 6 h, or 12 h daily. At 51.5 ± 2.3 d (±SE) after calving, cows were assigned randomly to be exposed for 12 h (BE12; n = 15) or 6 h daily (BE6; n = 14) to bulls, or not exposed to bulls (NE; n = 10) for 45 d. Interval from calving or from D 0 to resumption of OA was shorter (P < 0.05) and the proportion of cows that resumed OA during the experiment was greater (P < 0.05) for BE12 than for NE cows. Interval from D 0 to resumption of OA did not differ (P > 0.10) between BE6 cows and either BE12 or NE cows. However, interval from calving to resumption of OA was shorter (P < 0.05) for BE6 than NE cows. The proportion of cows that resumed OA did not differ (P > 0.10) between BE6 cows and BE12 cows; however, the proportion of cows that resumed OA during the experiment tended (P = 0.08) to be greater for BE6 cows than for NE cows. There was a linear relationship between intervals from calving (b1 = −7.64 d/h; P < 0.05) and D 0 (b1 = −3.3 d/h; P < 0.05) to resumption of OA and duration of daily bull exposure. Thus, the duration of bull-pheromone stimuli that cows perceive each day is related to when primiparous, postpartum, anestrous, suckled cows respond to this stimulus and undergo the physiological changes necessary to resume ovulatory activity.  相似文献

This study characterized preferential choice in binary trials and investigated intra-session variations in response time (RT). In Experiment 1, participants (N = 77) were asked to choose the preferred of two images of body wash; all unique combinations of 19 images were presented. The results showed: (a) marked and consistent individual preferences for specific stimuli; (b) RT decreased monotonically with increasing exposure to each stimulus; (c) RT decreased exponentially as a function of relative preference ranking of the 2 images in a trial; and (d) a regression model efficiently predicted trial RT as a function of exposure and relative preference. Experiment 2 (N = 112) explored the effect of amount of exposure on RT, and relative preference as a function of the type of choice task (a previously completed vs. a new choice task). The results showed that: (a) within a single choice task, amount of exposure and relative preference between the stimuli predicted the systematic changes in RT observed in Exp. 1; and (b) when the choice task changed, the effects of previous amount of exposure, and relative stimulus preference did not transfer to the new task.  相似文献

Perinatal administration of the endocrine disruptor bisphenol A (BPA) reportedly inhibits the sexual behavior of sexually naïve adult male rats. In order to evaluate the effects of BPA administration during early development on later reproductive behavior, we administered one of five doses of bisphenol A daily to pregnant female rats throughout gestation and lactation, and quantified the appetitive and consummatory sexual behaviors of the resultant male and female offspring over multiple sexual encounters in adulthood. Males receiving low dose perinatal BPA (50 μg/kg bw/day) showed persistent deficits in sexual behavior in adulthood. Males receiving the highest dose (5 mg/kg bw/day), however, were indistinguishable from controls with respect to consummatory sexual behaviors but showed decreased latencies to engage in those behaviors when sexually naïve, with significant non-linear, or U-shaped, dose-response relationships observed on the first and last day of testing. Adult female sexual behavior was not affected by early BPA administration at any dose tested. These results are consistent with previous reports that BPA exerts behavioral effects especially at low doses, and further indicates that BPA can cause lasting impairment of sexual behavior in males, but does not alter the normal development of female appetitive or consummatory sexual behaviors. To our knowledge, this is the first report indicating that adult sexual performance is impaired in sexually experienced animals following perinatal exposure to bisphenol A.  相似文献

Infestation of sheep with the louse Bovicola ovis is common worldwide and leads to an allergic dermatitis referred to as ‘scatter cockle’. IgE from an infested lamb was used in immunoaffinity chromatography to purify allergens from crude preparations of whole B. ovis and its faeces. SDS-PAGE of the affinity-purified eluates from both preparations showed a dominant band with Mr of 28.5 kDa. Spleen cells from a mouse immunised with B. ovis faecal antigens were used to produce hybridomas which were screened by ELISA to identify those producing monoclonal antibodies (mAb) to the allergens purified by IgE immunoaffinity chromatography. Western blotting demonstrated that all of the mAbs examined recognised the 28.5 kDa allergen. The allergen, purified using immunoaffinity columns constructed with one of the specific mAbs, was shown to cause immediate and late-phase responses on intradermal skin testing in B. ovis-infested but not in naïve lambs. Levels of serum IgE specific for the purified allergen were significantly higher in infested than in naïve lambs (? 0.0025). N-terminal and internal amino acid (aa) sequences obtained from the purified 28.5 kDa allergen were used to design primers to amplify a partial cDNA probe from B. ovis cDNA by PCR. The amplified probe was radiolabeled and used to screen a B. ovis cDNA library. The complete nucleotide sequence of the allergen was determined from the sequences of the positive clones from the library. The full-length cDNA encodes a 255 aa protein including a secretory leader sequence of 26 aas and a mature protein of 229 aas. The encoded protein showed strong homology to several hypothetical proteins of unknown function from diverse species and weak homology with lipid-binding proteins of Xenopus tropicalis and Galleria mellonella. This is the first allergen to be identified from a louse and it has been designated Bov o 1 in accordance with the criteria of the World Health Organization/International Union of Immunological Societies Allergen Nomenclature Subcommittee.  相似文献

Pheromones play a central role in coordinating the events leading up to copulation in snakes. We report here a novel pheromone system in the brown tree snake in which females release a pheromone that inhibits male courtship behaviour. In a previous study, we made observations of female brown tree snakes releasing cloacal secretions (CS) during courtship that appeared to cause courting males to cease courtship. All snakes have glands that release CS through ducts located along the cloacal orifice. Although CS have been studied for many years, their function in the mediation of snake behaviour has not been experimentally well determined. We examined the role of CS in the reproductive behaviour of male and female brown tree snakes. We conducted four experiments to test the effect of both male and female CS on brown tree snake behaviour under two behavioural contexts, courtship and male-male ritualized combat. Within each experiment, we compared the effects of CS to a control. Female CS caused a decrease in the time that males spent courting females and a decrease in the intensity of courtship compared with the control treatment. Male CS did not, however, affect the time that males spent displaying courtship or the intensity of that courtship. Neither male nor female CS had significant effects on male ritualized combat behaviour, including time that males spent in combat or the intensity of combat behaviours displayed. Furthermore, neither female nor male CS had an effect on female courtship versus controls. The inhibition of brown tree snake reproductive behaviours is specific to female CS inhibiting male courtship behaviour. We compared predation rates and behaviours of sea stars (Asterias vulgaris and Leptasterias polaris) and crabs (Cancer irroratus and Hyas araneus) preying on juvenile sea scallops (Placopecten magellanicus, 25-35 mm shell height) in laboratory. These predatory species co-occur with sea scallops on the sea bed of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Canada, and limit scallop survival in seeding operations. We also examined, under controlled conditions, the effect of tethering scallops on predator-prey interactions. Predation rates, time budgets and encounter behaviours observed for A. vulgaris and C. irroratus preying on free (untethered) scallops were comparable to previous studies. C. irroratus were more effective predators as they consumed 3.1 scallops predator− 1 day− 1, although they spent only 0.9% of their time searching for prey. A. vulgaris consumed 0.9 scallops predator− 1 day− 1 and spent 7.6% of their time searching. Sea stars L. polaris had a lower predation rate (0.02 scallop predator− 1 day− 1) than A. vulgaris. The frequent avoidance behaviour of L. polaris and its low ability to capture scallops support the notion that scallops are not a main component of this sea star's diet. Crabs H. araneus had similar predation rates (1.3 scallops predator− 1 day− 1) and behaviours to C. irroratus, although the probability of consumption upon capture was affected by relatively high numbers of rejections and post-capture escapes of scallops. As expected, the tethering procedure increased predation rate of L. polaris (about 19 times higher), but surprisingly did not significantly affect that of A. vulgaris. Examination of behaviours indicated that A. vulgaris offered tethered scallops tended to have a higher probability of capture, but spent less time searching for prey (possibly because satiation was reached) than A. vulgaris offered free scallops. Predation rates and behaviours of both crab species were not affected by tethering, since encounter rate was the primary determinant of crab-scallop interactions. Identification and quantification of behaviours underlying the predation process allowed us to mathematically model predator-related mortality for the four predator species.  相似文献

Opisthorchis viverrini requires Bithynia snails as the first intermediate host and cyprinid fish as the second intermediate host. Very low natural infection rates have been reported in Bithynia snails, but very high rates have been found in cyprinid fish in the same endemic region. This study investigated the effect of light intensity, the most important stimulus, on the quantity of O. viverrini cercariae shed from naturally infected Bithynia (Digoniostoma) siamensis goniomphalos snails. Snails were evaluated for cercariae output every hour after exposure to various light intensities for a total period of 7 h. The same infected snail was tested under different intensities of light: in the dark, and at 1000, 3000 and 5000 lx. The data showed that under exposure to 1000 and 3000 lx of light, the average percentage and number of cercariae released were higher than that exposed to 5000 lx during the first 2 h of the experiment. In contrast, under higher illumination (5000 lx) a longer time (6 h) was required to stimulate the peak emergence of cercariae. Darkness was not able to induce O. viverrini cercariae emergence. Among the three intensities of light, exposure at 1000 lx induced the highest average number of released cercariae per snail and the highest percentage of cercarial emergence within the first 2 h (125, 54.86%), followed by exposure at 3000 lx (69, 25.58%) and 5000 lx (12, 7.78%). The results suggest that the light intensity of 1000 lx for 2 h would be optimal for O. viverrini cercarial shedding from naturally infected B. (D.) siamensis goniomphalos snails.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to develop effective strategies for cooling and cryopreservation of immature porcine testis tissue that maintain its developmental potential. Testes from 1-wk-old piglets (Sus domestica) were subjected to 1 of 12 cooling/cryopreservation protocols: as intact testes, cooling at 4 °C for 24, 48, or 72 h (Experiment 1); as fragments, programmed slow-freezing with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), glycerol, or ethylene glycol (Experiment 2); or solid-surface vitrification using DMSO, glycerol, or ethylene glycol, each using 5-, 15-, or 30-min cryoprotectant exposure times (Experiment 3). For testis tissue xenografting, four immunodeficient recipient mice were assigned to each protocol, and each mouse received eight grafts. Recipient mice were killed 16 wk after grafting to assess the status of graft development. Based on morphology and in vitro assessment of cell viability, cooling of testis tissue for up to 72 h maintained structural integrity, cell viability, in vivo growth, and developmental potential up to complete spermatogenesis comparable with that of fresh tissue (control). In frozen-thawed testis tissues, higher numbers of viable cells were present after programmed slow-freezing using glycerol compared with that after DMSO or ethylene glycol (P < 0.001). Among the vitrified groups, exposure to DMSO for 5 min yielded numerically higher viable cell numbers than that of other groups. Cryopreserved tissue fragments recovered after xenografting had normal spermatogenesis; germ cells advanced to round and elongated spermatids after programmed slow-freezing using glycerol, as well as after vitrification using glycerol with 5- or 15-min exposures, or using DMSO for a 5-min exposure.  相似文献

Scan behavior in 10 captive predator-naive adult black tufted-ear marmosets (Callithrix penicillata) was investigated prior, during and following brief predator encounters (taxidermized oncilla cat -- Leopardus tigrinus) versus neutral stimulus exposures (stuffed toy). For each stimulus, three 9 min home-cage trials were conducted > or = 72 h apart. Each trial was divided into three consecutive 3 min intervals: pre-exposure baseline observation, stimulus exposure, and post-exposure observation period. Post-exposure scan duration increased during the first two predator confrontations, while scan frequency increased significantly only after the first. Scan behavior remained constant within the last predator encounter, as it also did within and between the three neutral stimulus exposures. Although marmosets scanned more often and significantly longer after encountering the predator than the neutral stimulus, this response rapidly habituated by the second trial. Therefore, black tufted-ear marmosets in a familiar environment rapidly habituate to brief repeated predator encounters, possibly minimizing anti-predation costs once the degree of a potential threat has been adequately assessed.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the cellular toxicity of copper-induced injury to the black tiger shrimp Penaeus monodon. The 24 h, 48 h, 72 h and 96 h LC50 (median lethal concentration) of Cu2+ on P. monodon (11.63 ± 1.14 g) were found to be 3.49, 1.54, 0.73 and 0.40 mg L− 1, respectively. Total haemocyte count (THC), phagocytic activity, respiratory burst (RB), cytoplasmic free-Ca2+ (cf-Ca2+) concentration and apoptotic cell ratio of shrimp were determined after exposure to different concentrations of Cu2+ (0, 0.05, 0.5, 1.5 and 3.5 mg L− 1) for 0, 6, 12, 24 and 48 h. There was no significant effect on the analytic indicator of shrimp exposed to 0.05 mg L− 1 Cu2+. THC decreased after Cu-exposure to 0.5 mg L− 1 for 48 h, 1.5 mg L− 1 for 24 h and 3.5 mg L− 1 for 12 h. Phagocytic activity decreased in P. monodon following 48 h exposure to 3.5 mg L− 1 Cu2+. RB was induced after 6 h exposure to 0.5, 1.5 and 3.5 mg L− 1 Cu2+. cf-Ca2+ concentration increased after 48 h exposure to 0.5 mg L− 1 Cu2+, and 12 h exposure to 1.5 and 3.5 mg L− 1 Cu2+. The percentage of apoptotic cells increased to 9.5%, 16.3% and 18.6% respectively following 48 h exposure to 0.5, 1.5 and 3.5 mg L− 1 Cu2+. These results indicate that Cu can induce oxidative stress, elevation of cf-Ca2+ and cell apoptosis, and inhibit phagocytic activity in the shrimp P. monodon, and the lethal injury of Cu2+ to P. monodon may be mainly due to the sharp reduction of THC caused by ROS-induced apoptosis.  相似文献

The hepatitis B virus capsid (core antigen) is able to bind to and activate naïve B cells and these become efficient primary antigen-presenting cells for the priming of T cells. We have investigated this interaction by using cryo-electron microscopy, three-dimensional image reconstruction, and molecular modeling to visualize capsids decorated with Fab fragments of a receptor immunoglobulin, and surface plasmon resonance to measure the binding affinity. By both criteria, the mode of binding differs from those of the six monoclonal anti-core antigen antibodies previously characterized. The Fab interacts with two sites ∼30 Å apart. One interaction is canonical, whereby the CDR loops engage the tip of one of the 25 Å spikes that protrude from the capsid surface. The second interaction is non-canonical; in it, the Fab framework contacts the tip of an adjacent spike. The binding affinity of this Fab for capsids, KD ∼ 4 × 10− 7 M, is relatively low for an antibody-antigen interaction, but is ∼ 150-fold lower still (∼ 2.5 × 10− 5 M) for unassembled capsid protein dimers. The latter observation indicates that both of the observed interactions are required to achieve stable binding of capsids by this receptor immunoglobulin. Considerations of conserved sequence motifs in other such molecules suggest that other naïve B cells may interact with HBV capsids in much the same way.  相似文献

A female Japanese quail, Coturnix japonica, will increase her tendency to affiliate and mate with a conspecific male after seeing him court and mate with another female. In the present study, we found that female quail increased the time they spent near a live target male after seeing that same male court and mate with another female in a 5-min video displayed on an active-matrix TFT monitor. However, female quail that were shown 5-min video sequences of either a target male standing alone or a randomly selected male courting and mating did not subsequently increase the time they spent near a live target male. These findings provide the first demonstration of which we are aware of birds transferring individual identification from a video sequence to a real animal. Aims

Methyl palmitate is thought to cause relaxation in vascular smooth muscle by opening voltage-activated potassium channels. We have tested the hypothesis that methyl palmitate, a putative regulator from perivascular fat, is an inhibitor of the contractility of human pregnant myometrium and that its effects might partially explain the higher incidence of dysfunctional labor in obese women compared to those with normal body mass indices.

Main methods

Strips of myometrium obtained with informed consent from women undergoing elective cesarean section at term were mounted in organ baths. Strips stimulated with oxytocin (1 nM) or KCl (30 mM) were exposed to cumulatively increasing concentrations of methyl palmitate up to 10 μM. Similar strips were exposed to cumulative addition of the potassium channel blockers 4-aminopyridine and tetraethylammonium. The contractility of the strips was monitored and analyzed using conventional methods.

Key findings

Methyl palmitate failed to inhibit oxytocin- or KCl-induced contractions over the concentration range tested. In fact, it exerted a slight excitatory effect in the presence of KCl, though not in the presence of oxytocin. The contractility of naïve strips was unaltered by exposure to 1 μM methyl palmitate. Both 4-aminopyridine and tetraethylammonium produced concentration-dependent contractions of human pregnant myometrium providing pharmacological evidence for the presence of voltage-activated potassium channels in this preparation.

Significance

Our findings do not support the hypothesis that methyl palmitate is an inhibitor of human pregnant myometrial contractility. Alternate hypotheses must be pursued to explain the higher incidence of dysfunctional labor in obese women.  相似文献
