Treatment of pumpkin plants with 2-chloroethylphosphonic acid (CEPHA) induced a greater production of female flowers, shorter internodes and earlier fruit set while treatment with gibberellic acid (GA) induced a greater production of male flowers, longer internodes and later fruit set. Although CEPHA induced the production of a greater number of female flowers, the bulk of the flowers aborted and only a slight increase in the number of fruits per pumpkin plant occurred. The addition of equal concentrations of CEPHA and GA resulted in pumpkin plants with longer internodes and a greater number of female flowers than the untreated plants, although GA partially overcame the effect of CEPHA. The mode of action of CEPHA and GA on sex expression is discussed. 相似文献

Cowpea cultivars, Adzuki, Ife Brown and New Era, were raisedin a pot-soil experiment, under greenhouse conditions. Whenapplied as a foliar spray, none of the three growth regulators,gibberellic acid (GA), benzyladenine (BA) and 2-chloroethylphosphonicacid (CEPA), had any significant effects on the vegetative growthof either Adzuki or Ife Brown, CEPA, however, suppressed stemelongation and root dry weight, and also caused defoliation,in New Era. GA had no significant effect on fertility (defined as the proportionof the number of floral buds to those developing into mature,functional, seed-bearing pods). GA also had no significant effecton harvest index (expressed as the percentage of whole plantdry weight represented by seed dry weight) in the three cultivars.BA suppressed fertility in both Ife Brown and New Era, but hadno influence on Adzuki. CEPA was effective in controlling abscission in cowpea by reducingthe number of floral buds initiated, but enhancing the numberof functional pods set, in New Era. CEPA also enhanced harvestindex in this cultivar by increasing the absolute seed weightwithout affecting total plant dry weight. The implications ofthese observations on the physiology of the cultivars are discussedin relation to the problem of fruit abscission in the cowpeaplant. Combined Effects of Abscisic Acid and Sucrose on Growth and Senescence of Rose Flowers 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The effects of sucrose and abscisic acid (ABA) and their interaction on development and senescence of petals were studied with leafless roses cultivar Super Star. Sucrose and ABA had opposing effects on the cut flowers. Sucrose retarded and ABA promoted processes associated with senescence: wilting, increase in pH, “blueing” and decrease in protein content of petals. These opposing effects are mutually antagonized when both chemicals are applied. ABA applied to flowers cut at the bud stage, promoted the rate of petal growth (but not their final size), increased respiration and caused a decrease in sucrose and an increase in level of reducing sugars. It is suggested that one way by which ABA accelerates senescence of cut roses is by promoting petal growth and respiration, thus decreasing the carbohydrate level in the petals and triggering the chain of metabolic processes leading to aging. 相似文献

The influence of 2-chloroethylphosphonic acid (CEPA) on yield, size and pigmentation of cranberries (Vaccinium macrocarpon cv. Early Black) was investigated. Applications of CEPA at 100, 500, and 1000 mg/1 to cranberry vines before bloom and during peak bloom have an adverse effect on yield and size. CEPA applied at these times has litlle influence on color. Applications of CEPA two weeks before harvest significantly accelerates pigment development, peak effect being observed when the vines are treated with 500 mg/1. Size and yield are not noticeably influenced at this time. The possible use of CEPA in the commercial production of cranberries to stimulate color development is considered. 相似文献

The effects of different light qualities and a special inhibitor of carotenoid biosynthesis on formation of plastid pigments of cotyledons of Pinus sylvestris were studied. The experimental results indicate: 1. The rate of synthesis of carotenoids in far-red light is relatively higher than that of chlorophylls, on the contrary in red light the rate of chlorophyll synthesis is higher. 2. When biosynthesis of carotenoids is inhibited, in white light the rate of total chlorophyll synthesis reduced with similar proportion. Accumulation of chlorophyll, however, is relatively much more than that of carotenoids. The highest molar ratio of chlorophyll/carotenoids is approximately 10.0. This implicates that chlorophyll and carotenoid synthesis proceed with certain independence. 3. After 4h exposure of strong white light of 9 day-old pine seedlings grown with 10-5 mol 1-1 norflurazon in farred light, contents of carotenoids and total, chlorophyll of cotyledons increase. We studied the effect of a Russian composite preparation (2-chloroethylphosphonic acid and methacide) and butylated hydroxyanisole on ethylene release in whole fruit and peel disks of two apple cultivars, Antonovka obyknovennaya (Antonovka) and Simirenko's rennet (Simirenko). Treatment with the composite preparation was followed by an increase in ethylene release from both the whole apples and peel disks. The development of microbial infection (fruit rot) in the whole apples became less pronounced after the treatment. Treatment of whole apples with the antioxidant butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) increased the intensity of ethylene release during the first subsequent days; thereafter, ethylene release decreased and was 10–15% lower than in the control on days 10–12. In model experiments, BHA decreased ethylene release from apple peel disks below control levels as early as on the first day after treatment. Antonovka apples gave quick responses to the treatment. In the late-ripening Simirenko apples, the response persisted for a longer period. Our results suggest that treatment with physiologically active preparations affects the ethylene release, ripening, and preservation of apples in storage. 相似文献

After the roots of intact radish seedlings had taken up [3H]zeatinfor 1 h, the seedlings were transferred to nutrient lackingzeatin and extracted at intervals. After 23 h in the absenceof zeatin, 6 per cent of the radioactivity extracted per seedlingwas recovered from the de-ribbed cotyledon laminae, 4 per centfrom the hypocotyls, and 87 per cent from the roots. Per unitweight of tissue, the radioactivity extracted from the rootwas about 40 times that recovered from any other region. Zeatin was rapidly metabolized by the root tissue, and 4 to9 h after transfer of the seedlings to nutrient lacking zeatin,accounted for a negligible proportion of the radioactivity.Initially zeatin riboside 5'-monophosphate was the principalroot metabolite, but after 9 h, 7-glucosylzeatin (raphanatin)was the dominant metabolite. Conversion of zeatin to dihydrozeatinwas not detected. Raphanatin was also the major metabolite inthe cotyledon laminae where some free zeatin was detectable.The principal metabolites in hypocotyl extracts were AMP andzeatin riboside 5'-monophosphate but zeatin riboside was theonly significant source of radioactivity in the xylem sap. When [3H]zeatin was applied directly to cotyledon laminae, 99per cent of the radioactivity was localized in the treated laminae;however traces of zeatin were detected in the roots. The effects of triazines on growth, 14CO2-fixation and translocation of 14C-assimilates by young Pinus seedlings were investigated. Post-emergenceroot application of moderate and high concentrations of simazine and atrazine resulted in severe toxicity to the seedlings of Pinus nigra and P. coniorta as depicted by reduction in dry weight, chlorosis, wilting and mortality. Atrazine was more toxic than simazine and P. nigra was more susceptible than P. contorta to both the triazines. Simazine treatment to the roots of P. nigra seedlings, not only caused inhibition of 14CO2-fixation but also reduced the short-term downward transloca-tion of l4 C-assimilates. Various possible mechanisms whereby simazine reduced the downward movement of I4C-assimilates in Pinus seedlings are discussed. 相似文献

The effects of sink capacity on the regulation of the acclimationof photosynthetic capacity to elevated levels of carbon dioxideare important from a global perspective. We investigated theeffeocts of elevated (750 µmol mol1) and ambient(350 µmol mol1) atmospheric CO2 on growth, carbohydratelevels, and photosynthesis in radish seedlings from 15 to 46d after planting. In radish, a major sink is the storage root,and its thickening is initiated early. Elevated CO2 increasedthe accumulation of dry matter by 111% but had no effect onthe acclimation of the rate of photosynthesis or on the levelsof carbohydrates in leaves at dawn. Elevated CO2 increased thedry weight in storage roots by 105% by 46 d after planting,apparently enhancing the sink capacity. This enhanced capacityseemed to be responsible for absorption of elevated levels ofphotosynthate and to result in the absence of any over-accumulationof carbohydrates in source leaves and the absence of negativeacclimation of photosynthetic capacity at the elevated levelof CO2. 以盆栽萝卜为材料,研究了叶面喷布100~300mg/L ALA对萝卜植株生长、光合作用以及叶绿素荧光特性的影响。结果表明,ALA促进萝卜植株生长与其促进植株中下部叶片的光合作用有关。ALA处理提高了叶片光合表观量子效率,并降低了光补偿点。叶绿素荧光动力学资料显示,ALA处理不仅降低了叶绿素初始荧光Fv、稳态荧光Fs以及两者的差值ΔFu,还降低了暗适应以及光照下的最大荧光(Fm和Fm′)和可变荧光(Fv和Fv′),但是不影响PSⅡ最大光化学效率(Fv/Fm),对于中下部叶片PSⅡ实际光化学效率(φPSⅡ)还有明显的促进作用。ALA处理植株叶片光合非循环电子传递速率ETR显著提高,300mg/L ALA处理还降低了光合相对限制值L(PFD)。ALA具有促进叶绿素荧光光化学猝灭和非光化学猝灭的双重特性,其中,前者提高了叶片光化学速率,后者增加热耗散量以及提高热耗散速率。另外,本试验结果显示,ALA处理提高了植株基部叶片的叶绿素含量以及中下部叶片类萝卜素含量。以上参数变化说明ALA通过诱导光抑制保护机制来提高叶片光合效率。 相似文献
