In evaluating data, one acknowledges as a scientist the superiority of the K-procedure on account of the versatility of its application, e.g. in answering the question not only as to its causal context, in proving two features to be contemporaneous and equally strong effects of a material third factor, or in accordance with a “criterion of parallel problems”, but also in demonstrating the mutual matching of two frequency-ratios and the matching of one frequency-ratio with a given proportion, e.g. 3: 1, and the matching of a continuing proportion collected from observed frequencies with a given continuing proportion, e.g. 9:3:3: 1. This is demonstrated in the examples in the literature, which hitherto have been treated only according to the classical procedure.

Chinese hamster ovary fibroblasts were synchronized by mitotic selection and showed cytogenetic lethally acting radiation damages, which depended on age at irradiation time. The development of cell cultures was followed by counting of the killed cells in the 3rd daughter generation of the irradiated ones and by evaluation of the colony size spectra 73.5 h after innoculation. At a dose of 300 rads two narrow but high peaks of radiation sensitivity were induced, which appeared at the beginning and at the end of the S-phase of the cell cycle and therefore are reduced to conformation changes of the DNA. Consequently the DNA-super-structures linking pieces of the nucleoprotein-fibre during fastening to, and detaching from, the nuclear membrane are assumed to be the loci of the increased radiation sensitivity.

The investigation of unfitness of beet molasses for citric acid production shows the presence of hydroacarbons in a toxic fraction of lipid extracts derived from antifoaming agents used in the suger industry. The model experiments demonstrate that these compounds dispersed in water solutions of the medium create on the surface of growing spores a layer which isolates them from the surrounding and prevents their normal growth. The inhibition effect of hydrocarbons on Aspergillus niger increases with degree of their dispersion in the water phase and is promoted by surface active substances e.g. emulgators present in antifoaming additives.

The Jurassic ammonoid faunal spectrum of the Mediterranean faunal provinces always exhibits a large quota of Phylloceratina and Lytoceratina. As a rule, these ammonites are supposed to be index fossils of deeper-water deposits. An example from Spain suggests that this is not always the case. Nevertheless general zoogeographical aspects of ammonoid distribution, irrespective of the depth of water, still merit our attention.
