A comparative analysis of the strategy of countermeasures aimed at reducing exposure doses to the rural population is presented. The effectiveness of the proposed system of countermeasures assessed by criteria such as reduction factor of exposure doses and cost of averted doses. Costs of countermeasures in the rural settlements located in the affected zone are calculated for a long term after the Chernobyl NPP accident.  相似文献

The regularities of the aerial contamination of agricultural ecosystems are described in the early period after the Chernobyl NPP accident. The aerial contamination is shown to be caused by the development of the above-ground biomass of plants and fallout characteristics. A specific coefficient of primary retention varied between 0.46 and 1.2 m2 kg-1 for 137Cs. The first half-life period varies from 9.7 to 13.4 days. The second period varies from 46.2 to 52.2 days. It has been found that parameters of aerial contamination from the Chernobyl accident well correlate with the results of observation in the period of global fallout.  相似文献

Chromosome preparations from peripheral blood cells of 117 subjects who took part in liquidation of Chernobyl NPP accident consequences in 1986 have been investigated. The number of chromosome aberrations has been shown to increase considerably. A short-term exposure has been found to be 5-7 times more effective than long-term one.  相似文献

The selected results of the cytogenetic studies of the Chernobyl accident consequences were summarised. The chromosomal aberrations were used as a method of biodosimetry for a dose assessment for victims during the initial period after the Chernobyl accident. A good correlation between doses calculated based on chromosomal aberrations (dicentrics) and severity of acute radiation syndrome observed in clinic was found. The biodosimetry based on conventional cytogenetic technique (dicentrics) has been unsuccessful for various groups (rehabilitation workers, evacuees, inhabitants of contaminated areas) sampled long time after the Chernobyl accident. The possible reasons of the failure are analysed. The original results of multiaberration cell yield observed in different cohorts of the Chernobyl victims are presented. The problems related to the phenomena are discussed.  相似文献

Regularities of changes in 137Cs content in cattle milk in the long term after the Chernobyl accident have been analyzed. Contamination levels of haylands and pastures, soil properties, specific features of agricultural production and time after the fallout play a crucial role in 137Cs concentration changes in animal products. Trends have been studied that reflect the influence of these factors and their significance assessed. The half-life periods of 137Cs decay in milk vary over the period of 1994 to 2000 between 7.1 and 14.8 years and approach similar periods calculated for the long term after global radioactive fallout from nuclear weapons tests.  相似文献

A study was made of hydrobionts, particularly fishes, living within the thirty-kilometer control zone of Chernobyl NPP and northern part of the Kiev basin, after the disaster. Out of 31 fish species living in the NPP cooling pond some were identified which were mostly affected by radioactive contamination. They were predators belonging, with respect to reproduction and development, to a lithophilous group. Peculiarities of reproduction of Hypophthalmichthys molitrix kept in stews of the cooling pond before the accident were studied. After a three-year exposure to ionizing radiation (cumulative dose of 8-9 Gy) no reduction in the reproductive capacity of mature fishes was observed.  相似文献

The time-effect relationship for chromatid type aberrations, chromosome type fragments, hyperploidy and polyploidy levels in peripheral blood lymphocytes were investigated in inhabitants of t. Pripiat' and nearby villages, who were departured from the Chernobyl NPP 30-km exclusive zone during first days after the Chernobyl catastrophe. The time-course changes of the mentioned cytogenetic indices in evacuees were displayed as a gradual decline of chromosomal rearrangements and genome abnormality frequencies from the statistically elevated level in the first 1-2 years after the accident to the subcontrol meanings at the end of the 14-years observation period. In early terms after exposure the frequency of chromatid exchanges in adult men and the polyploidy level in women aged 23-35 years were sufficiently increased comparing with other evacuee subgroups. Some peculiarities of the fragment aberration frequency dynamics were shown for persons with different terms of the departure from the Chernobyl zone. The role of the combination of mutagenic factors acted in the accidental situation at Chernobyl for inducing the elevated level of cytogenetic damage in evacuees is discussed.  相似文献

A methodological approach is described for a comparative assessment of ionizing radiation effects on man and biota, based on the use of indices of radiation impact--ratios of actual exposure doses to environmental objects (including humans) and critical ones. As such doses, standards limiting radiation exposure and doses at which phenotypical effects were absent after the Chernobyl accident were employed, respectively for man and biota. For the test site chosen within the 30 km ChNPP zone (region of the Borshchovka settlement), dose burdens to reference biota species and the population (with and without evacuation) and the corresponding radiation impact indices were calculated. For the long term period after the accident radiation safety standards for man are shown to ensure radiation safety for biota as well. At the same time in the early period after the accident the emergency regulations do not guarantee adequate protection of nature, some species of which can be subject to irradiation more than man, even if countermeasures like evacuation are not applied. A conclusion has been made on the necessity of a more detailed and comprehensive analysis of situations when the anthropocentric principle "if radiation standards protect man then biota are also adequately protected" is violated.  相似文献

The post-irradiation changes of dicentric and centric ring levels were studied in Chernobyl liquidators using the data of 507 individual chromosomal surveys of persons sampled at different time after their activities at Chernobyl NPP accident zone. The time-effect relationship within 0-10.5 years after exposure was displayed as exponential decline of the mean chromosome exchange frequency with average decay half-time 2.2 y. During 10.5-13 years after exposure the increasing and stabilization of chromosome exchange yield on the level 2-3-times higher than control was observed. In the first few months after irradiation the dicentric and centric ring frequency in liquidators had the clear reverse correlation with the duration of person's duties at the Chernobyl zone. The parameters of unstable chromosome exchange elimination were independent on the initially induced aberration yield, that resulted in earlier reaching the subcontrol level in persons who had more protracted duration of duties at the Chernobyl accident zone.  相似文献

The effect of the increased natural radiation background (within some areas in Komi Republic) and man-caused radioactive contamination in the Chernobyl NPP accident zone on the composition of liver phospholipids in Microtus oeconomus inhabiting these areas was studied. The significant changes in the liver lipid composition in rodents inhabiting both the Chernobyl accident zone and the areas with the increased natural radiation background were found. The maximal changes in the liver phospholipid composition were revealed during the first year after the accident. The reverse dependence between the phosphatidyl choline/phosphatidyl ethanolamine ratio and the ratio between the sum of more readily oxidizable phospholipids and the sum of more poorly oxidizable ones was found. However, the slope of corresponding curves significantly depends on the radioactive state in the area of the population inhabitance. The conclusion about high sensitivity of the lipid composition of hepatocytes in Microtus oeconomus both to the impact of the man-caused radioactive contamination and the increased level of the natural radioactivity was drawn.  相似文献

The genetic impact of the 1986 accident at the Ukraine Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) on populations of living organisms has yet to be fully assessed. Monitoring of the genotoxicity of polluted soils is a key element in the disaster management program. We used Arabidopsis thaliana and Nicotiana tabacum plants transgenic for a reporter gene revealing homologous recombination to study the genetic effects of chronic low-dose radiation stemming from the soil in inhabited areas of Ukraine where contamination by the accident ranges from 1 to 40 Ci/km2. We noted a significant dose-dependent increase of homologous recombination in plants cultivated in the affected inhabited areas, proving the persistently high genotoxicity of the radioactively contaminated soils.  相似文献

Dosimetric models have been developed to estimate the exposure doses of woody plants growing in the area contaminated by long-lived radionuclides. The models are parameterized based on the data obtained from the experimental plots in the south-west districts of the Bryansk region affected by radioactive fallout of the Chernobyl NPP accident. Doses are estimated to generative organs of pine trees from these plots. The contribution from various sources and types of ionizing radiation to the absorbed dose formation for these objects is determined.  相似文献

Following the 1986 Chernobyl accident radiocaesium levels in sheep meat in some upland areas of the United Kingdom were above the national intervention limit. West Cumbria was one of these areas and restrictions are currently still in place. In addition to deposition from the Chernobyl accident, Cumbria has been subject to radiocaesium deposition from atmospheric nuclear weapons tests, the 1957 Windscale accident and routine releases from the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant. A Monte-Carlo approach has been used to try to predict areas in west Cumbria where radiocaesium activity concentrations in lamb meat would require the imposition of restrictions at different times after the Chernobyl accident. The approach models the transfer of radiocaesium from soil to vegetation, based upon soil organic matter, and from vegetation to lamb meat. Spatial inputs are soil organic matter and total post-Chernobyl (137)Cs and (134)Cs deposition; a ratio of Chernobyl (137)Cs to (134)Cs deposition has been used to differentiate Chernobyl and pre-Chernobyl (137)Cs deposition. Comparisons of predicted radiocaesium transfer from soil-vegetation and the spatial variation in lamb (137)Cs activity concentrations are good and predicted restricted areas with time after Chernobyl compare well to the restricted areas set by UK government. We predict that restrictions may be required until 2024 and that in some areas the contribution of pre-Chernobyl (137)Cs to predicted lamb radiocaesium activity concentrations is significant, such that restrictions may only have been required until 1994 as a consequence of Chernobyl radiocaesium deposition alone. This work represents a novel implementation of a spatial radioecological model using a Monte-Carlo approach.  相似文献

Results of the comparative analysis of the complex investigation of rodent population state caught at areas with different levels of contamination in the accident zone of the Chernobyl NPP during 1986-1993 and 2007, at areas with a practically normal radiation background in the neighborhood of the Kiev City in 1993 and at areas with the normal and increased radiation background in Ukhta region of Komi Republic in 1993-2008 are presented. It is shown that the absence of the linear dependence in changes of the lipid peroxidation (LPO) regulatory system parameters in rodent tissues on the dose of the external gamma-radiation at areas of their trap persists for a long time. Different ability to normalization of the studied indices and nonlinearity of their dose dependences allow us to suggest that changes of the scale and direction of interrelations between the reciprocal parameters of the LPO regulatory system in norm in tissues of rodents which were caught in the accident zone and at areas with an increased radiation background should be the information signal determining selection of the strategy of adaptation to the chronic radiation factor action.  相似文献

The results of the cytogenetic investigation of people, which were exposed to radiation in the result of the Chernobyl NPP accident, were presented. Also the possibilities of the application of cytogenetic findings for dose estimations and for the prediction of the radiation influence consequences were examined. During the period of time since 1986 till 2004 the cytogenetic investigations of 1724 liquidators participating in the liquidation works after the Chernobyl accident were carried out. The radiation dose estimated by the frequency of dicentrics in 1986 was about 0.16 Gy. The doses for liquidators were determined by the frequency of translocations (FISH method) during the period from 1992 till 1995. For liquidators who worked in Chernobyl only in 1986 the average dose of radiation was about 0.19 Gy and for liquidators who worked repeatedly during the period from 1986 till 1995 - 0.39 Gy. There was shown that during the whole period of investigation (1986-2004) the frequency of dicentrics in peripheral blood lymphocytes was significantly higher than the control level. The cytogenetic investigation of Bryansk region inhabitants which was carried out in 1992-1994 discovered heightened value in 5 times than the control one. Findings are of great importance for the prediction of ill effects of radiation and for the development of sensitive criterions for early exposure disturbances in state of health.  相似文献

A temporary increase in the incidence of infant leukaemia in Greece was reported by Petridou et al., which was attributed to in utero exposure to ionising radiation resulting from the Chernobyl accident. We performed a similar analysis based on the data of the German Childhood Cancer Registry in order to check whether the observation could be confirmed by means of independent data. Applying the same definitions as Petridou et al., we also observed an increased incidence of infant leukaemia in a cohort of children born after the Chernobyl accident. More detailed analyses, regarding areas with different contamination levels and dose rate gradients over time after the accident, showed, however, no clear trend with regard to exposure. It would therefore appear less likely that the observed effect was caused by exposure to ionising radiation due to the Chernobyl accident. Thyroid state study was been carried out for Chernobyl NPP accident liquidators living in Ozyorsk, the city, located in the nuclear facility affected zone (Mayak PA). In total 531 individuals were examined. Thyroid assessment was made basing on physical examination, on ultrasound study and on hormones measurement of thyroid stimulating hormone, free thyroxine and thyroid peroxidase antibody. Screening revealed thyroid pathology for 27% of clean-up workers. As a result of the study carried the following conclusions were made: thyroid disease prevalence among the Ozyorsk residents participated in the breakdown elimination after Chernobyl accident was not differ from the individuals who didn't take part in this work; the prevalence of thyroid disease in liquidators was significantly connected with non radiation risk factors: with gender (for women compared to men), RR = 4.0, 95% CI 2.9-5.5; with age (over 60 years old vs under 60 years old), RR for women was 1.7; 95% CI 1.0-3.0 and for men -1.9; 95% CI 1.1-3.2; with hereditary predisposition, RR for autoimmune thyroiditis was 3.3, 95% CI 1.4-7.9.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE--To evaluate the risk of acute childhood leukaemia in areas of Sweden contaminated after the Chernobyl reactor accident in April 1986. DESIGN--Population based study of childhood leukaemia diagnosed during 1980-92. SETTING--Coordinates for places of residence of all 1.6 million children aged 0-15 years; aerial mapped areas of Sweden heavily contaminated after the Chernobyl accident. SUBJECTS--888 children aged 0-15 years with acute leukaemia diagnosed in Sweden during 1980-92, identified with place of birth and residence at diagnosis. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES--Risk of leukaemia in areas contaminated after the Chernobyl accident compared with the rest of Sweden and in the same areas before the accident. RESULTS--During six and a half years of follow up after the accident the odds ratio for acute leukaemia was 0.9 (95% confidence interval 0.6 to 1.4) in highly contaminated areas (> or = 10 kBq/m2) compared with the same areas before the accident. For the subgroup acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in children aged under 5 years at diagnosis the odds ratio was 1.5 (0.8 to 2.6). For all cases diagnosed after May 1986 in highly contaminated areas compared with areas of low contamination the odds ratio was 0.9 (0.7 to 1.3). For acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in children aged under 5 years at diagnosis the odds ratio was 1.2 (0.8 to 1.9) in highly contaminated areas compared with areas of low contamination. Dose-response analysis showed no correlation between the degree of contamination and the incidence of childhood leukaemia. CONCLUSION--There has been no significant increase in the incidence of acute childhood leukaemia in areas of Sweden contaminated after the Chernobyl reactor accident.  相似文献
