ABSTRACT

Festuca gamisansii subsp. aethaliae, endemic to the Isle of Elba (Tuscan Archipelago) is described. The morphological, anatomical, karyological, ecological and chorological characteristics of the species are given. The main characteristics distinguishing F. gamisansii subsp. aethaliae from F. gamisansii subsp. gamisansii occurring in Corsica are also summarized.  相似文献

We tested the application of RAPD technology for identification of hybrid genomes originated from a maternal clone of Lolium perenne L. (2n = 2x = 14) bearing cytoplasmic male sterility, which was pollinated separately by five clones of Festuca arundinacea Schreb. cv. Barocco (2n = 6x = 42). Six classes of RAPD markers were recognized, specific to: 1) Festuca genome and inherited into F1 hybrid genomes, 2) Lolium genome inherited into F1 hybrid genomes, 3) Lolium-specific bands not found in F1 progeny, 4) Festuca-specific bands not found in F1 progeny, 5) new bands found only in F1 hybrid profiles, 6) bands common to all parental and F1 hybrid genotypes. RAPD data were shown to have full potential a) to serve as an unequivocal proof of genome recombination in perennial ryegrass × tall fescue hybrids, b) to identify hybrid genomes, c) to reveal phenetic relationships of the accessions from crossing families, d) to enhance, by fingerprinting, the selection of superior hybrid material for further breeding. RAPD data were found to be consistent with the festucoid phenotype of F1 hybrids. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Study of the literature and type specimen shows that the nameF. elatior L. is ambiguous and confused. 试验选用青藏高原东部高寒草甸普遍存在的3种禾本科牧草垂穗披碱草(Elymus nutans)、中华羊茅(Festuca sinensis)以及羊茅(Festuca ovina)进行种间竞争的野外研究.通过测定3种牧草生物量的干重,对其进行方差分析并计算了相对产量总和(RYT)以及竞争率(CR).结果如下:对实验物种竞争率(CR)的分析表明垂穗披碱草的竞争力最强,中华羊茅次之,羊茅最差.施肥和刈割处理对于原来的竞争格局没有影响,即在施肥、刈割及其交互作用下3种牧草的竞争等级均是一致的.对试验物种混播的相对产量总和(RYT)的分析表明:在中华羊茅与垂穗披碱草的混播中,两种组成物种利用相同的资源,表现出相互竞争的趋势,这种趋势是非密度依赖的;垂穗披碱草和羊茅混播,在低密度时,羊茅和垂穗披硷草可以共享资源,但是随着密度增加,羊茅和垂穗披碱草表现出竞争相同资源的趋势;在中华羊茅和羊茅的混播中,二者在生长过程中能够共享资源,有相互促进的趋势,表现出共生的关系,且是非密度依赖的.  相似文献

As water stress, including drought and waterlogging, can severely affect plant growth, this study investigated the effects of an endophyte from the genus Epichloë on two different ecotypes of Festuca sinensis grass under five soil water conditions in a controlled greenhouse experiment. Changes in F. sinensis plants grown with (E+) and without the endophyte (E−) were evaluated as they were subjected to different water treatments (20%, 35%, 50%, 65% and 80% relative saturation moisture content, RSMC). Growth parameters such as plant height, number of tillers, blade width, stem diameter, root length, total biomass, root-shoot ratio and relative water content were determined. The results showed that drought and waterlogging significantly (P < 0.05) inhibited the growth of F. sinensis. The presence of the endophyte significantly (P < 0.05) increased plant growth and root-shoot ratio under drought and waterlogged conditions. In addition, the plant height, number of tillers, blade width, stem diameter and total biomass in seedlings of both ecotypes reached the maximum at 65% RSMC, which suggests the optimal water condition. These findings also show that moderate drought (35% and 50% RSMC) could promote root growth of grass seedlings. Therefore, endophytic infections can result in enhanced host plant resistance to drought and waterlogged conditions.  相似文献

对水土保持型牧草苇状羊茅节肢动物群落的系统调查,根据节肢动物群落中物种的营养和取食关系将总群落划分为天敌亚群落和非天敌亚群落(含害虫和中性昆虫),以调查到的节肢动物种类、个体数量结合各群落生态学指标分析总群落及亚群落的结构组成.结果表明:共查得苇状羊茅节肢动物139种分属68科;非天敌亚群落为总群落主要成分,相对多度为0.7661,其中优势种为同翅目昆虫;天敌亚群落相对多度为0.2339;优势种为蜘蛛类天敌.优势集中性和优势度分析表明非天敌亚群落>总群落>天敌亚群落;均匀度指数除5、9月份外,均表现为天敌亚群落>总群落>非天敌亚群落;多样性指数除4、5月份外,均表现为总群落>非天敌亚群落>天敌亚群落.  相似文献

Festuca rubra plants maintain associations with the vertically transmitted fungal endophyte Epichloë festucae. A high prevalence of infected host plants in semiarid grasslands suggests that this association could be mutualistic. We investigated if the Epichloë-endophyte affects the growth and nutrient content of F. rubra plants subjected to drought. Endophyte-infected (E+) and non-infected (E−) plants of two half-sib lines (PEN and RAB) were subjected to three water availability treatments. Shoot and root biomass, nutrient content, proline, phenolic compounds and fungal alkaloids were measured after the treatments. The effect of the endophyte on shoot and root biomass and dead leaves depended on the plant line. In the PEN line, E+ plants had a greater S:R ratio than E-, but the opposite occurred in RAB. In both plant lines and all water treatments, endophyte-infected plants had greater concentrations of N, P and Zn in shoots and Ca, Mg and Zn in roots than E- plants. On average, E+ plants contained in their shoots more P (62%), Zn (58%) and N (19%) than E- plants. While the proline in shoots increased in response to water stress, the endophyte did not affect this response. A multivariate analysis showed that endophyte status and plant line impose stronger differences in the performance of the plants than the water stress treatments. Furthermore, differences between PEN and RAB lines seemed to be greater in E- than in E+ plants, suggesting that E+ plants of both lines are more similar than those of their non-infected version. This is probably due to the endophyte producing a similar effect in both plant lines, such as the increase in N, P and Zn in shoots. The remarkable effect of the endophyte in the nutrient balance of the plants could help to explain the high prevalence of infected plants in natural grasslands.  相似文献

The grass breeding industry is interested in a fast and cheap method of identifying contamination in seeds of Italian and perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L. and L. multiflorum Lam., respectively). This study shows that high-resolution melting curve analysis in combination with an unlabelled probe assay is an effective method of detecting single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in diverse Italian and perennial ryegrass backgrounds. This method proved efficient in differentiating ryegrass species and reducing the effect of additional DNA sequence polymorphisms close to the target SNP on the melting curve profiles. For the identification of contamination in Italian and perennial ryegrass seed production, high-resolution melting curve analysis shows great potential, as it is a single closed-tube PCR reaction with an easy workflow, providing results in <2 h after DNA extraction.  相似文献

Vertically transmitted fungal endophytes can be beneficial for host grasses. While the alkaloid-mediated mechanism for herbivore resistance has been widely studied, underlying physiological mechanisms for increased tolerance to abiotic stress remain scarcely explored. In this study we used three maternal lines of perennial grass Festuca rubra to examine the role of antioxidants in endophyte-mediated effects on seed viability over long-term storage. Uncolonized plants (E?) were generated by removing the endophyte from ramets of naturally endophyte-colonized (E+) plants. The E?+ and E? ramets were planted in a common garden in Salamanca, Spain. Seeds produced in 2009, 2010 and 2011 were harvested at maturity, dried and stored at 10 °C until 2011 when we tested seed and endophyte viability, and measured antioxidants. Seed viability and α-tocopherol antioxidant were negatively affected by the endophyte in two maternal lines. In these same lines, the endophyte viability was lowest at the longest storage time. In the maternal line that showed the highest negative effect of endophyte on seed viability, the pattern of glutathione was opposite to that observed for tocopherols since it was higher for E?+ than for E? seeds. In all maternal lines, the glutathione half-cell reduction potential (EGSSG/2GSH) and % glutathione disulphide (GSSG) increased with storage time but there was no clear pattern associated with endophyte symbiosis. Whether these parameters are good predictors of seed and endophyte longevity in storage and natural conditions should be further explored.  相似文献

盐胁迫环境抑制植物的生长,影响植物组织的离子分布,不同的盐分组成对植物的抑制伤害存在差异,为了研究上海市临港新城滨海盐渍土的生态恢复和重建,模拟该地区的盐分组成,进行了高羊茅(Festuca arundinacea)幼苗的盐胁迫试验。高羊茅种子在非盐胁迫条件下萌发,出苗5d后,进行了不同浓度NaCl:0、50、100、150、200、300、400mmol/L处理,15d后测定生长情况、组织含水量和Na^+、K^+、Ca^2+、Mg^2+等离子含量。研究结果表明:盐分对高羊茅幼苗的抑制作用随NaCl浓度增加而加剧,低盐胁迫环境下,幼苗地上部分和根系的鲜重、干重和含水量都与对照没有显著性差异,但是高盐环境严重影响了高羊茅幼苗的生长,而且对地上部分的抑制作用大于根部;盐胁迫影响植物组织的离子分布,Na^+浓度持续增加,Ca^2+和K^+浓度下降,Mg^2+含量的影响不大;各组织中K/Na、Ca/Na和Mg/Na随盐胁迫增加而下降。  相似文献

In the allotetraploid, Festuca pratensis Huds. (2n = 4x = 28) × Lolium perenne L. (2n = 4x = 28) the balance of chromatin, as determined by GISH, changes over successive generations of open pollination in favour of L. perenne. There is extensive recombination between chromosomes of the two parental genomes, as well as substitution of whole Festuca chromosomes by whole Lolium chromosomes. The total number of Lolium chromosomes increased from a mean 14.36 in the F2 to 16.26 in the F6, and the total number of Festuca chromosomes decreased correspondingly from a mean of 13.57 to a value of 11.56. The number of recombinant chromosomes and recombination breakpoints per genotype also increased from generation to generation, although the respective values of both characters were higher for Festuca (0.86–8.41 and 1.14–15.22) than for Lolium (0.68–4.59 and 0.68–6.0). The proportion of total genome length contributed by the L. perenne chromatin increased from about 50% in F2 to 59.5% in F6. The results are based on the sample of 134 plants studied (26–28 plants per generation), and are discussed in terms of the dominance of Lolium chromosomes over those of Festuca, and possible mechanisms underlying this phenomenon of chromatin substitution.  相似文献

Studying the seed production of semi-natural grasslands helps to understand their regeneration processes and to evaluate the possibility of collecting seed useful for ecological restoration. In a subalpine Festuca nigrescensAgrostis capillaris meadow, the development of the main grasses' seed production and the standing seed yield at meadow maturity were studied. The inflorescence size was in the lower part of the variation range reported in previous studies. The seed viability was average to high and durable. The biological floret site utilization was mostly above 50%. With 458 fertile stems m? 2, the seeds produced (all seeds produced up to the time of the meadow maturity) by the main grasses were 21,000 m? 2, of which 77% were of A. capillaris and 81% were viable. On a 3-year average, the standing seed yield (seeds present on the plants, i.e. produced minus shed seeds) at meadow maturity was 6953 seeds m? 2. Amount and composition of the produced seeds were affected mainly by the variability among years of the fertile stems density of the perennial grasses and the annual hemiparasite Rhinanthus freynii. The percentage of produced seeds which formed the standing seed yield was affected mainly by the collecting date.  相似文献

Species belonging to the Festuca-Lolium complex are important forage and turf species and as such, have been studied intensively. However, their out-crossing nature and limited availability of molecular markers make genetic studies difficult. Here, we report on saturation of F. pratensis and L. multiflorum genetic maps using Diversity Array Technology (DArT) markers and the DArTFest array.The 530 and 149 DArT markers were placed on genetic maps of L. multiflorum and F. pratensis, respectively, with overlap of 20 markers, which mapped in both species. The markers were sequenced and comparative sequence analysis was performed between L. multiflorum, rice and Brachypodium. The utility of the DArTFest array was then tested on a Festulolium population FuRs0357 in an integrated analysis using the DArT marker map positions to study associations between markers and freezing tolerance. Ninety six markers were significantly associated with freezing tolerance and five of these markers were genetically mapped to chromosomes 2, 4 and 7. Three genomic loci associated with freezing tolerance in the FuRs0357 population co-localized with chromosome segments and QTLs previously identified to be associated with freezing tolerance. The present work clearly confirms the potential of the DArTFest array in genetic studies of the Festuca-Lolium complex. The annotated DArTFest array resources could accelerate further studies and improvement of desired traits in Festuca-Lolium species.  相似文献

The goal of our study was to investigate the impact of fungal endophytes in tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) on rhizodeposition and in turn, the soil microbial community. Sand-based, aseptic microlysimeter units were constructed for the collection of rhizodeposit solutions for chemical analyses from the roots of endophyte-free (E−) and endophyte-infected (E+) tall fescue plants. E+ plants were infected with Neotyphodium coenophialum, the most common endophyte found in tall fescue. Rhizodeposit solutions collected over nine weeks from E+ grass contained more organic carbon and carbohydrates than E−. These solutions were allowed to percolate through columns of plant-free soils to assess the response of the soil microbial communities. Soils to which solutions from E+ grass were applied had significantly higher respiration rates than those receiving solutions from E− grass, suggesting that microbial activity was stimulated by changes in the rhizodeposits. Culture-based assays of the soil microbial community (plate counts and community-level physiological profiling) suggest that the basic structure of the microbial community was not affected by application of rhizodeposit solutions from E+ plants as compared to E−. Our results indicate that the presence of a fungal endophyte may enhance rhizodeposition by tall fescue and could consequently influence microbial mineralization processes in the soil. In grasslands where nutrients may be limiting, hosting a fungal endophyte has the potential to enhance plant nutrient supply indirectly via a stimulatory effect on the soil microbial biomass. Genomic in situ hybridization (GISH) was used to identify Festuca chromatin in mitotic chromosomes of Lolium multiflorum (Lm) × Festuca pratensis (Fp) hybrids and hybrid derivatives. In two inverse autoallotriploids LmLmFp and LmFpFp, in situ hybridization was able to discriminate between the Lolium and Festuca chromosomes. In a third triploid hybrid produced by crossing an amphiploid of L. multiflorum × F. pratensis (2n=4x=28) with L. multiflorum (2n=2x=14), the technique identified chromosomes with interspecific recombination. Also, in an introgressed line of L. multiflorum which was homozygous for the recessive sid (senescence induced degradation) allele from F. pratensis, a pair of chromosome segments carrying the sid gene could be identified, indicating the suitability of GISH in showing the presence and location of introgressed genes. By screening backcross progeny for the presence of critical alien segments and the absence of other segments the reconstitution of the genome of the recipient species can be accelerated.  相似文献
