The trace elements of both calcified atherosclerotic plaques and plaque-free vessel walls of the carotid bifurcation from 31 autopsies were investigated using the proton-induced X-ray emission (PIXE) method. The trace elements studied were phosphorus (P), calcium (Ca), chrome (Cr), iron (Fe), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), lead (Pb), selenium (Se), bromine (Br), strontium (Sr), and rubidium (Rb). All samples contained Fe and Zn. Mercury (Hg) was not detected in any of the samples studied. All plaque-free samples contained Cu and almost all Br and Ca, none Sr. All calcified atherosclerotic plaques contained Ca and almost all Br and Sr. The relative levels of Ca were higher in the calcified plaques than in the plaque-free vessel walls. The relative value of Ca in calcified and uncalcified samples was greatest in the group who had died because of cardiovascular disorders and smallest in the group who had died from other causes. There was a strong positive correlation between the Ca and Sr of the plaque samples and between the P and Br of the plaque-free samples.  相似文献

The fruit mineral contents (K, Ca, Ba, Br, Zn, Co, Cr, Fe, Na, Rb, Cs, and Sr) of four native and two exotic naturalized shrubs growing in different areas of the Andean Patagonian region of Argentina were investigated. Native species Berberis darwinii, Berberis microphylla (Berberidaceae), Aristotelia chilensis (Elaeocarpaceae) and Ribes magellanicum (Saxifragaceae) produce small berries while the fruits of the exotic species Rosa rubiginosa and Rosa canina (Rosaceae) are aggregates of aquenes. They are used to prepare jams, tea, liquors, and ice creams. Native shrub fruits had higher content of Br, Zn, Co, Cr, Fe, Mo, and Na than those of the exotic naturalized species. Rosa species showed the highest contents of Ca and Ba in their fruits (the mean content doubled those of the native plant fruits). The fruit nutrient content found in the studied species was similar or higher than other values reported for fruits of temperate and tropical species in the world.  相似文献

Native mussels, Diplodon chilensis, were sampled from four lakes in Nahuel Huapi National Park, Northern Patagonia, Argentina in order to evaluate heavy-metal distribution in the region and to assess the contribution of this compartment of the trophic web to their circulation in the food chain. The concentration of potential pollutants Ag, As, Cr, Hg, Sb, and Se, and other nine elements of interest (Ba, Br, Ca, Co, Cs, Fe, Na, Sr, and Zn) were determined in Diplodon chilensis pooled samples. Digestive glands were analyzed separately from soft tissues. Geological tracers Sc, Ta, Th, and rare earth elements were also determined in order to discriminate lithophile contributions. Elemental concentrations of Ba, Br, Fe, Sr, Se, and Zn in total soft tissues samples do not show significant differences among sampling sites. Arsenic and Cr contents in total soft tissues and digestive gland pooled samples are higher in sampling points close to zones with human settlements. Silver contents in samples collected in Lake Nahuel Huapi were higher than in the other lakes studied, and up to 50-fold higher than the sample collected in Lake Traful, considered as the reference. Mercury highest concentration values measured in total soft tissues pooled samples from lakes Nahuel Huapi and Moreno were found to be similar to those observed in other reported Hg contamination situations, and they are three to five times higher than those of the reference samples collected in Lake Traful.  相似文献

The effects of the interaction between Pratylenchus vulnus and the endomycorrhizal fungus Glomus intraradices on growth and nutrition of Santa Lucia 64 cherry rootstock was studied under microplot conditions during one growing season. Fresh top weight, and stem diameter of mycorrhizal plants and high P treatments with and without P. vulnus were significantly higher than those of non-mycorrhizal plants. The lowest shoot length and fresh root weights were recorded in nematode inoculated plants in low P soil. Mycorrhizal infection did not affect the number of nematodes per gram of root in plants infected with P. vulnus. In the presence of the nematode, internal spore production by G. intraradices was significantly reduced. No nutrient deficiencies were detected through foliar analysis, although low levels of Ca, Mn and Fe were detected in nematode treatments. Mycorrhizal plants achieved the highest values for N, P, S, Fe, and Zn, whereas high P treatments increased absorption of Ca and Mn. Early mycorrhizal infection of Santa Lucia 64 cherry rootstock by G. intraradices confers increased growth capacity in the presence of P. vulnus.  相似文献

Solutes distribute differentially between leaf tissues and cells. The present study tested the hypothesis that certain solutes are supplied preferentially to the epidermis in the transpiration stream, by-passing mesophyll cells along bundle sheath extensions. Using energy dispersive X-ray analysis of extracted cell sap, the distribution of solutes was studied in the emerged zone (transpiring) and the elongation zone (non-transpiring) of the developing leaf three of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.). The basic distribution of Cl, K, P and Ca between epidermis and bulk tissue, and between cells within the epidermis, was similar in the two leaf regions. However, in the emerged zone differences in solute concentrations between tissues and cells were greater. A local reduction in transpiration rate along the emerged portion of the blade specifically prevented Ca from accumulating to high levels in epidermal cells close to stomata. It is concluded that differences in solute concentrations between epidermal cells and other leaf tissues can be established in the absence of transpiration, but that they require transpiration for their full expression. The occurrence of trace elements in the teeth of Steller sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus) collected from the North Pacific from 1968 to 1999 is described. Using particle-induced X-ray emission analysis, we detected eight trace elements: Ca, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Br, Sr and Pb. We used a general linear model to evaluate long-term trends of trace element accumulation. Zn (Zn/Ca) and Fe (Fe/Ca) levels both varied during the last three decades, and showed significant differences between animals of different age (Fe/Ca), season (Zn/Ca and Fe/Ca), and sex (Zn/Ca); both Zn/Ca and Fe/Ca ratios were higher in young males than older males. Pb was detected in 39% of the samples from Hokkaido (Japan) and 22% of those from Alaska. The high levels of Pb recorded in 1975 were thought to be related to the use of leaded gasoline during the 1970s. Our results indicate that the levels of trace elements in the teeth of Steller sea lions can be used as indicators of temporal and spatial variations of trace element pollution.  相似文献

The cellular composition of the coelomic fluid of the Far Eastern holothurinans Apostichopus japonicus and Cucumaria japonica was studied using light and transmission electron microscopy and histochemistry. In the coelomic fluid of A. japonicus, the following types of coelomocytes were distinguished: progenitor cells; amoebocytes; vacuolated cells; small (or young) morula cells; morula cells of type I, type II, and type III; crystal cells; and vibratile cells. In the coelomic fluid of C. japonicawere found progenitor cells, amoebocytes, vacuolated cells, morula cells of type I and type II, crystal cells, and hemocytes containing a respiratory pigment. The issue of stem cell type, which gives rise to coelomocytes, is discussed.  相似文献

Fifteen trace elements have been tested to determine the requirements for the growth of Phellinus pachypholeus Pat. The fungus requires in ppm, Fe: 10, Zn: 10–100, Mn: 1.0, Cu: 1.0, Mo: 1.0, B: 10.0–100. It does not require Ca, Pb, Br, I, Cr, Hg, W, Li or Cd. Concentrations higher than the optimum were progressively inhibitory for its growth.  相似文献

The influence of hair color on the trace elemental status in horse's hair has been studied. A current analytical technique such as particle-induced X-ray emission (PIXE) used in this study has provided reliable, rapid, easy, and relatively inexpensive diagnostic methods. Twenty-eight elements (Al, Br, Ca, Cl, Co, Cu, Cr, Fe, Ga, Hg, K, Mg, Mn, Mo, Na, Nb, Ni, P, Pb, Rb, S, Se, Si, Sr, Ti, V, Y, and Zn) in mane hair were detected by the PIXE method. The gray hair contains significantly greter amounts of Cu, Ti, and Zn, and lower amounts of Br, Ca, Se, and Sr than those in other colored horse hairs (p<0.05). Those results measured in the horse's hair were similar to those found in human and dog hair. When interpreting a result, it should be kept in mind that hair color, especially gray hair, influences the concentrations of some elements in horse hair.  相似文献

The effects of simultaneous changes of calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, and zinc concentrations were evaluated in normal human T and B lymphocytes, cultured in cation-depleted media. Optimal concentrations for thymidine incorporation (TI) in both cell populations were Fe and Zn 15 μM and Cu 5 μM; for t cells Ca 2 mM and Mg 4 mM; for B cells Ca 4 mM and Mg 6 mM. TI decreased with increasing molarity of cations and the decrease was particularly apparent with Cu. Minimal amounts of Ca and Mg (0.5 mM) were necessary for growth, even in presence of optimal concentrations of Fe, Cu, and Zn. Fe and Cu showed synergistic stimulatory effects at low concentrations and synergistic inhibitory effects at high concentrations. Antagonism between Fe and Zn, Cu and Zn, and Ca and Zn was also demonstrated. CD4/CD8 increased with PHA stimulation in presence of Zn, and decreased with ConA stimulation in presence of Zn or Fe. The results demonstrate: (1) the relationship and interdependence of Fe, Cu, and Zn concentrations in modulating the growth of normal lymphocytes; (2) the stimulatory effects of Fe on B cells and Zn on CD8 positive cells; (3) the inhibitory effect of Cu at concentrations lower than those of Fe and Zn; (4) the requirement of Ca and Mg in certain concentration and ratio for the action of the other cations; and (5) the Ca and Mg requirement for the growth of B cells higher than T cells.  相似文献

采用扫描电镜及X射线能谱仪技术,研究霍山石斛组培苗移栽后各器官组织的微观结构和所含元素的变化,以了解霍山石斛组培苗生长发育以及药效成分的状况。结果表明:(1)霍山石斛组培苗移栽2个月后,根增粗近1倍,具有根被,且根被细胞壁的网络状增厚更加明显,表皮、皮层、中柱发育分化更加完善,Mg、Si、Cl、S、K、Ca元素含量提高,其中Ca增长了2.76倍。(2)茎表面纵向凹陷增多,内部结构致密,维管束发育较为完善,细胞内充满物质,Mg、Si、Cl、S、K、Ca、Fe、Cu、Zn元素含量增多,尤其是K和Fe分别增长了3.25倍和4.61倍。(3)叶增厚,具有了角质层,气孔形状更加饱满,叶肉细胞内含物丰富,Mg、Si、Cl、S、K、Ca、Fe、Mn、Zn的含量显著上升,其中K升高了17倍。(4)与根、叶相比,茎中所富集的元素种类最多。研究认为,霍山石斛试管苗移栽后,生长发育趋向完善,各项功能增强,细胞内含物质增多,元素成分丰富并且含量提高,体现出对移栽环境的良好适应性。  相似文献

The phenoloxidase (PO) activity of the hemocytes lysate supernatant from three ascidians species, assayed by means of 3-methyl-2-benzothiazolinone hydrazone hydrochloride, have been compared. PO-containing hemocytes were identified by a cytochemical reaction and the enzymatic activity measured by a spectrophotometric assay of lysate supernatant from hemocyte populations separated on a discontinuous Percoll density gradient. In Styela plicata, the enzyme appeared to be contained in morula cells only. In Ciona intestinalis, PO activity was shown in univacuolar refractile granulocyte and granular hemocyte. In Phallusia mammillata both compartment cell and granular hemocytes were positive. Enzymatic assay following electrophoretic analysis on polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) or SDS-PAGE indicated that hemocyte lysate presented orthodiphenoloxidase (catecholase) activity. The enzymes from the three species differed in molecular size, activating substances and trypsin sensitivity.  相似文献

Summary The elemental composition of the human atheroselerotic popliteal artery was examined using the proton-induced X-ray-emission (PIXE) method. The application of a narrow proton beam (3×10 m2) enabled us to determine not only the concentrations of Cl, K, Ca, Fe, Cu, Zn, Br and Pb, but also their localization in different artery-wall regions. The highest mean concentrations of Cl, K, Zn and Br were found in the tunica media. In the investigated sections the distribution of Ca and Fe varied: sometimes, these elements were prevalent in the tunica intima, whereas in other cases, the highest concentrations were observed in the tunica media or tunica adventitia. The concentration profiles of each element were characterized by many sharp, narrow peaks. The highest concentrations of Ca and Fe showed such high levels that only one explanation is possible, i.e. the presence of crystals. The correlation of Ca peaks with those of Zn and Fe is discussed. The usefulness of the micro-PIXE method for the investigation of biomedical materials is also considered.  相似文献

Summary Information is limited on soil contamination of leaves from field-grown row crops, especially with respect to aluminum (Al) analyses. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of washing leaf samples with either deionized water or detergent solution on elemental analyses for several agronomic crop plants. The crop plants sampled were corn (Zea mays L.), soybean (Glycine max L. Merr.), grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench), and wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). The crops were grown on a range of soil types, soil pH values, and tillage practices. Samples of upper leaves and lower leaves were collected separately. The samples were either not washed, washed with deionized water, or washed with detergent solution. After drying, grinding, and digesting, the samples were analyzed for Al, nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn), and copper (Cu). For all crop plants and conditions studied, there was no effect on measured N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Mn, Zn, or Cu concentrations, but measured Al and Fe concentrations were influenced by washing. In general, washing had a greater effect on Al analyses than on Fe analyses. Soybean samples were most affected by washing, while wheat samples seemed to be least affected. The results reflected greater contamination of lower leaves than upper leaves. Decontamination procedures appear necessary prior to Al and Fe analyses of field-grown crop plants.  相似文献

Nutlets of Hemigenia R.Br. and Microcorys R.Br. were examined using SEM. Significant variation, mainly useful at the infrageneric level, was found in nutlet shape, nature of the attachment scar, nature of surface sculpturing, exocarp cell shape and sculpturing, and nature of the indumentum. Typical nutlets are ovoidal, strongly reticulate or rugose. The exocarp cells are isodiametric and convex to papillate. Also common are cylindrical nutlets, often with longitudinal ridging and papillate exocarp cells. Surface pitting and concave exocarp cells are rare. A cladistic analysis of nutlet characters suggests both Hemigenia and Microcorys are polyphyletic, and Microcorys paraphyletic with respect to Westringia Sm. Notwithstanding that, the infrageneric classification of Hemigenia was largely supported, while in Microcorys, there was support for sect. Hemigenioides, but sects Anisandra and Microcorys were not resolved as distinct.  相似文献

The morula‐stage embryo of the polyembryonic egg‐larval parasitoid Copidosoma floridanum forms outside the host embryo and secondarily invades the host body. Electron microscopic analyses of cellular interactions between the extraembryonic syncytium of the parasitic morula and the host embryonic epithelial cells showed that morula penetration into the host embryo did not cause obvious damage to the host cells, except for the abrasion of the embryonic cuticle. Epithelial cells of the host embryo extended microvilli toward the invading C. floridanum morula and also adjacent host cells in the same way. Shortly after settlement of the morula within the host body cavity, gap junctions and adherens junctions with host cells were formed. Summary The application of FeEDDHA to a calcareous soil significantly increased yield and alleviated severe lime-chlorosis in a genotype ofEucalyptus obliqua that is native to acidic soils. The alleviation of chlorosis brought about a significant decrease in the levels of P, Ca and K but an increase in the uptake of Fe in leaves. The total Fe content of foliage, however, was poorly coorelated with the occurrence of lime-chlorosis. It was concluded that the differential susceptibility ofE. obliqua to lime-chlorosis is related to interactions between Fe and Ca, as well as Fe and P, occurring during the absorption and translocation processes.  相似文献

Upregulation of Cdx2 expression in outer cells is a key event responsible for cell lineage segregation between the inner cell mass and the trophoderm (TE) in mouse morula‐stage embryos. In TE cells, polarization can regulate Hippo and Rho‐associated kinase (Rho‐ROCK) signaling to induce the nuclear location of YAP, which has been demonstrated to further induce the expression of Cdx2. However, we found that CDX2 expression could not be detected in the outer cells of porcine morula‐stage embryos but only in some TE cells at the early blastocyst stage. The biological significance and the regulation mechanism of this species‐specific CDX2 expression pattern have still not been determined. We show here that an asynchronous CDX2 expression pattern exists in porcine TE cells during the development of the blastocyst. We demonstrate that CDX2 expression in porcine TE cells depends on the nuclear localization of YAP and polarization of the embryo through Y27632 treatment. We found that the polarization process in the morula to the late blastocyst stage porcine embryos was asynchronous, which was revealed by the apical localization of phosphorylated EZRIN staining. Artificially enhancing the number of polarized blastomeres by culturing the separated blastomeres of four‐cell stage porcine embryos resulted in increased CDX2‐positive cell numbers. These results indicate that the mechanism of CDX2 expression regulation is conserved, but the polarization progress is not conserved between the pig and the mouse, and results in a species‐specific trophoblast determination progress model.  相似文献

In the shoot apex of Selaginella kraussiana A. Br., air spaces develop between the endodermal cells, isolating the two steles from the cortex. The endodermal cells elongate to form trabeculae connecting the two tissues. As each trabecular cell develops, cuticularization occurs on the external surface at a point mid-way along the cell and forms the trabecular ring. The plasmalemma of the trabecular cell becomes attached to the wall beneath the main concentration of the ring, resembling the connection between the plasmalemma and the Casparian strip of a primary endodermis. The trabeculae retain a functional cytoplasm throughout growth.  相似文献

In order to shed new light on the mechanisms of salt-mediated symbiotic N2-fixation inhibition, the effect of salt stress (75 mM) on N2-fixation in pea root nodules induced by R. leguminosarum was studied at the gene expression, protein production and enzymatic activity levels. Acetylene reduction assays for nitrogenase activity showed no activity in salt-stressed plants. To know whether salt inhibits N2-fixing activity at a molecular or at a physiological level, expression of the nifH gene, encoding the nitrogenase reductase component of the nitrogenase enzyme was analyzed by RT-PCR analysis of total RNA extracted from nodulated roots. The nifH messenger RNA was present both in plants grown in the presence and absence of salt, although a reduction was observed in salt-stressed plants. Similar results were obtained for the immunodetection of the nitrogenase reductase protein in Western-blot assays, indicating that nitrogen fixation failed mainly at physiological level. Given that nutrient imbalance is a typical effect of salt stress in plants and that Fe is a prosthetic component of nitrogenase reductase and other proteins required by symbiotic N2-fixation, as leghemoglobin, plants were analyzed for Fe contents by atomic absorption and the results confirmed that Fe levels were severely reduced in nodules developed in salt-stressed plants. In a previous papers (El-Hamdaoui et al., 2003b), we have shown that supplementing inoculated legumes with boron (B) and calcium (Ca) prevents nitrogen fixation decline under saline conditions stress. Analysis of salt-stressed nodules fed with extra B and Ca indicated that Fe content and nitrogenase activity was similar to that of non-stressed plants. These results indicate a linkage between Fe deprivation and salt-mediated failure of nitrogen fixation, which is prevented by B and Ca leading to increase of salt tolerance.  相似文献
