Chimpanzees of the Mahale Mountains, Tanzania were discovered to show an expressive gesture using leaves, termed as “leaf-clipping display”. This behavioural signal is directed by an adult male to an estrous female as a possessive behaviour, or by an adolescent male as a courtship display, or by an estrous female to an adolescent male also as a solicitation of copulation. The signal also is used toward human observers as a signal of food-demanding. This behaviour pattern might originate in a displacement tool-making behaviour in conflict situations. The leaf-clipping display has not been observed in any other chimpanzee populations studied, and may probably be one example of the tradition drift in wild chimpanzees.  相似文献

The non‐identity problem is the problem of grounding moral wrongdoing in cases in which an action affects who will exist in the future. Consider a woman who intentionally conceives while on medication that is harmful for a fetus. If the resulting child is disabled as a result of the medication, what makes the woman's action morally wrong? I argue that an explanation in terms of harmful rights violations fails, and I focus on Peter Markie's recent rights‐based defense. Markie's analysis rests on the notion of an indirect harm, and I show that the calculation of an indirect harm relies on an improper baseline for the determination of whether or not an action adversely affects a patient's interests. I also defend an impersonal duty‐based analysis of the wrongdoing in non‐identity cases against an objection by Markie. I close by arguing that the rights‐based analysis is insensitive to context and that context is morally relevant in the determination of the moral valence of actions in cases of non‐identity. This failure provides a pro tanto reason to favor an impersonal duty‐based analysis of the wrongdoing in non‐identity cases.  相似文献

There is a phosphopeptide that has an Mr of 53,000 to 60,000 in insulin-secreting tissues and there is general agreement that this peptide can be phosphorylated in a calcium-dependent manner. The present report shows that there are at least two phosphoproteins with Mr's near 57,000 in rat pancreatic islet cytosol. One peptide has an Mr of 57,000, a pl of 7.5 - 8 and is phosphorylated in a Ca2+-enhanced manner, and the other has an Mr of 54,000, a pl of 5 - 5.5 and is phosphorylated in a cAMP-enhanced manner, as judged by two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Sepharose 4B chromatography indicated that the former polypeptide resides in a native protein complex that has an Mr of about 500,000 and the latter in a complex that has an Mr of about 180,000. Tritiated azido cyclic AMP binds to an islet polypeptide that has an Mr of 54,000. The results suggest that Ca2+ and cAMP could regulate stimulus-secretion coupling in pancreatic islets via protein phosphorylation.  相似文献

Thioredoxin plays an important role in various cellular processes through redox regulation. Here we report the molecular cloning and characterization of one member of the thioredoxin superfamily, designated as TMX2. The TMX2 cDNA consists of 1644 nucleotides and contains an open reading frame encoding a protein of 372 amino acids with a predicted molecular mass of 42.5 kDa and an isoelectric point of 8.94 . The TMX2 protein may possess an N-terminal signal peptide, a potential transmembrane domain, an Myb DNA-binding domain repeat signature, a thioredoxin consensus pattern, an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane retention signal (KKXX-like motif), and a dileucine motif in the tail. Northern blot analysis shows it is widely expressed in human tissues.  相似文献

对地钱(Marchantia polymorpha)颈卵器发育和卵发生过程进行了显微观察和细胞化学的研究,颈卵器起始于原始细胞,该细胞呈乳突状,经横分裂产生基细胞和顶细胞,顶细胞经3次纵斜向分裂和1次横分裂产生初生细胞,初生细胞是颈卵器内的第一个细胞,经横分裂产生中央细胞和颈沟母细胞,前者产生1个腹沟细胞和1个卵细胞,后者最终产生4个颈沟细胞。颈卵器的成熟表现为颈部显著伸长和腹部膨大,卵细胞成熟时具有不规则的核,细胞质内含有丰富的囊泡和颗粒物,卵细胞周围充满粘性物质,细胞化学研究表明,该粘性物质为多糖,卵细胞质中深染色的颗粒可能为脂类物质,腹沟细胞自产生后就逐渐退化,颈沟细胞的退化迟于腹沟细胞,其数量通常为4个,偶尔可见5个颈沟细胞或具有双核的现象。  相似文献

Dictyostelium discoideum filamin (ddFLN) is a two-chain F-actin crosslinking protein with an N-terminal actin-binding domain and a rod domain constructed from six tandem repeats of a 100 residue motif that has an immunoglobulin (Ig) fold. We report the 2.8 A resolution crystal structure of a homodimer of rod repeats 4, 5 and 6. The two chains are arranged in an antiparallel fashion and form an elongated element, which is shortened, however, compared to a fully extended, linear configuration because the long axis of each Ig domain is arranged at an angle to the long axis of the rod. Same arrangement of repeats should also be present in the rod domain of human FLNa, much longer than Dictyostelium FLN, which forms an extended structure able to crosslink F-actin chains over distances of more than 1000 A.  相似文献

Different odorants are recognized by different combinations of G protein-coupled olfactory receptors, and thereby, odor identity is determined by a combinatorial receptor code for each odorant. We recently demonstrated that odorants appeared to compete for receptor sites to act as an agonist or an antagonist. Therefore, in natural circumstances where we always perceive a mixture of various odorants, olfactory receptor antagonism between odorants may result in a receptor code for the mixture that cannot be predicted from the codes for its individual components. Here we show that stored isoeugenol has an antagonistic effect on a mouse olfactory receptor, mOR-EG. However, freshly purified isoeugenol did not have an inhibitory effect. Instead, an isoeugenol derivative produced during storage turned out to be a potent competitive antagonist of mOR-EG. Structural analysis revealed that this derivative is an oxidatively dimerized isoeugenol that naturally occurs by oxidative reaction. The current study indicates that as odorants age, they decompose or react with other odorants, which in turn affects responsiveness of an olfactory receptor(s).  相似文献

The formation of new root apices from small groups of cells with different cellular patterns has been simulated using an existing model based on growth tensors. To generate an apex, a steady growth field was used. The pattern of cells evolved to approach the steady state. Two extreme types of progressions have been obtained : one leading to an apex with a single or a few apical cells, and the other to an apex with a quiescent centre. The change of structure while applying a steady growth tensor indicates that development may involve a succession of discrete growth tensors.  相似文献

BackgroundMeniscal tears, specifically lateral meniscal tears, have a larger than expected un-derdiagnosis rate in the presence of an ACL tear. The purpose of our study was to search for an MRI bone contusion pattern associated with MRI occult meniscal tears in patients with an ACL tear, specifically a contusion of the rim of the medial femoral condyle (RMFC). Our hypothesis was that there would be a significant association between RMFC contusions and MRI occult meniscal tears in patients with an ACL tear. We also searched for a difference between sexes with respect to the presence of the RMFC contusion in the setting of an occult meniscal tear. We also categorized the type, size, and location of these occult meniscal tears in the setting of an ACL tear.Methods This was a retrospective study that examined characteristics of occult meniscal tears and their association with a RMFC bone contusion. IRB approval was obtained. The date range of the study was June 2009 through December 2015. 6392 consecutive knee MRI reports in patients with an ACL deficient knee were reviewed. The study group included 22 patients with MRI occult meniscal tears, the control group included 110 patients. Relevant statistical values were calculated.ResultsThe most common type of occult meniscal tears were small radial and small longitudinal tears of the lateral meniscus. Occult meniscal tears were associated with an RMFC contusion in the study group (p=0.0457), particularly in males (p = 0.0003). In males with a torn ACL, the sensitivity of an RMFC contusion for an occult meniscal tear was 80%.ConclusionIn males with an ACL tear, there was a significant association between a contusion of the RMFC and an occult meniscal tear (commonly small radial or small peripheral partial-thickness longitudinal tears). In this paper, we present an iterative algorithm for reconstructing a three-dimensional density function from a set of two dimensional electron microscopy images. By minimizing an energy functional consisting of a fidelity term and a regularization term, an L2-gradient flow is derived. The flow is integrated by a finite element method in the spatial direction and an explicit Euler scheme in the temporal direction. Our method compares favorably with those of the weighted back projection, Fourier method, algebraic reconstruction technique and simultaneous iterative reconstruction technique.  相似文献

Under certain conditions it is shown that an extended culture is equivalent to an exponentially-fed-batch culture, that an exponentially-fed-batch culture (and an extended culture) can be maintained at a steady state and that an exponentially-fed-batch culture may be mimicked by a continuous-flow culture with a constant dilution rate. Abasic (apurinic/apyrimidinic) sites are among the most abundant DNA lesions in humans, and they present a strong block to replication. They are also highly mutagenic because when replicative DNA polymerases manage to insert a nucleotide opposite the lesion, they prefer to insert an A. Rev1, a member of Y-family DNA polymerases, does not obey the A-rule. This enzyme inserts a C opposite an abasic lesion with much greater catalytic efficiency than an A, G, or T. We present here the structure of yeast Rev1 in ternary complex with DNA containing an abasic lesion and with dCTP as the incoming nucleotide. The structure reveals a mechanism of synthesis across an abasic lesion that differs from that in other polymerases. The lesion is driven to an extrahelical position, and the incorporation of a C is mediated by an arginine (Arg324) that is conserved in all known orthologs of Rev1, including humans. The hydrophobic cavity that normally accommodates the unmodified G is instead filled with water molecules. Since Gs are especially prone to depurination through a spontaneous hydrolysis of the glycosidic bond, the ability of Rev1 to stabilize an abasic lesion in its active site and employ a surrogate arginine to incorporate a C provides a unique means for the “error-free” bypass of this noninstructional lesion.  相似文献

Retroactive interference between cues of the same outcome (i.e., IbC) occurs when the behavioral expression of an association between a cue and an outcome (e.g., A → O1) is reduced due to the later acquisition of an association between a different cue and the same outcome (e.g., B → O1). Though this interference effect has been traditionally explained within an associative framework, there is recent evidence showing that IbC effect may be better understood in terms of the operation of higher order causal reasoning processes. The results from Experiments 1 and 2 showed an IbC effect in a learning task within a game scenario suggesting non-causal relationships between events. Thus, these results showed that IbC may have a diverse origin, one of them being of an associative nature.  相似文献

Dynamical attainability of an evolutionarily stable strategy (ESS) through the process of mutations and natural selection has mostly been addressed through the use of the continuously stable strategy (CSS) concept for species evolutionary games in which strategies are drawn from a continuum, and by the adaptive trait dynamics method. We address the issue of dynamical attainability of an ESS in coevolving species through the use of the concept of an ESNIS. It is shown that the definition of an ESNIS coalition for coevolving species is not in general equivalent to other definitions for CSS given in the literature. We show under some additional conditions that, in a dynamic system which involves the strategies of a dimorphic ESNIS coalition and at most two strategies that are not members of ESNIS coalition, the ESNIS coalition will emerge as the winner. In addition an ESNIS will be approached because of the invasion structure of strategies in its neighborhood. This proves that under the above conditions an ESNIS has a better chance of being attained than a strategy coalition which is a CSS. The theory developed is applied to a class of coevolutionary game models with Lotka–Volterra type interactions and we show that for such models, an ESS coalition will be dynamically attainable through mutations and natural selection if the ESS coalition is also an ESNIS coalition.Co-ordinating editor: Metz  相似文献

An evolutionarily stable strategy (ESS) is only required to be capable of resisting invasion by rare mutant strategies. In contrast, an absolute invader strategy (AIS) is a rare mutant strategy that can invade any established strategy. We show that the predictions of the outcome of evolution made by optimization models are compatible with those made by the classical expected payoff comparisons in matrix games. We also show that if a matrix game has an AIS that AIS is unique and is also an ESS. But an ESS need not be an AIS. In pure-strategy submodels, an AIS need not be unique. An AIS of a matrix game has global asymptotic stability property in the game dynamics which involve only pure strategies including the AIS.  相似文献
