It is suggested that vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) play an important role in tumor-induced angiogenesis. The purpose of this study was to estimate the correlation between VEGF and bFGF levels and tumor pathological status according to pTNM classification in patients with squamous cell oesophageal cancer. A group of 25 healthy controls and 32 consecutive patients with oesophageal cancer were included in this study. Serum VEGF and bFGF levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (Quantikine R&D Systems). Serum VEGF and bFGF levels were significantly elevated in the patient groups (VEGF: 146.0 pg/ml, 79.0-386.3 pg/ml vs. 38.0 pg/ml, 6.5-135.1 pg/ml, p<0.005, and bFGF: 5.2 pg/ml, 1.2-10.6 pg/ml vs. 2.06 pg/ml, 0.07-4.0 pg/ml, p<0.02 Fisher test). The highest correlation between serum VEGF and bFGF levels were found in patients with advanced cancers, especially with: T4, N1, and M1 factors. The VEGF and bFGF levels were significantly higher in patients with pT4 (p<0.01). Patients with N1 lymph node invasion, compared with N0 factor, have higher levels of angiogenetic factors (p<0.04). Also in patients with advanced cancers with liver metastases the serum levels VEGF and bFGF were significantly higher (M1 vs. M0, VEGF p<0.001 and bFGF p<0.05). Consecutive monitoring of VEGF and bFGF serum levels may be a useful prognostic marker for patients with squamous cell oesophageal cancer.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To quantitate tumor angiogenesis by establishing intratumoral microvessel density (IMD), to study vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression in different grades of astrocytomas and to correlate VEGF expression with tumor angiogenesis. STUDY DESIGN: Forty cases of astrocytic neoplasms (10 of each grade) were assessed for tumor angiogenesis and VEGF expression. The panendothelial marker CD31 was used to highlight microvessels. Tumor angiogenesis was quantitated as IMD count per square millimeter in areas of high vascularity, or "hot spots," using an image analyzer. VEGF expression was studied in sections of the tumors. IMD counts per square millimeter and VEGF expression were correlated with histologic grade. The angiogenic potential of tumors as reflected by IMD counts per square millimeter was correlated with the intensity of VEGF expression. RESULTS: Vascular proliferation in high grade gliomas was significantly higher as compared to that in low grade gliomas. IMD count per square millimeter revealed a positive correlation with histologic grade in high grade gliomas. Pilocytic astrocytoma and low grade astrocytoma as a group had comparable IMD counts per square millimeter. VEGF expression paralleled IMD counts in rare high grade gliomas only. CONCLUSION: Malignant progression in astrocytoma is heralded and accompanied by increased angiogenesis. VEGF is an important angiogenic factor in high grade gliomas since its expression parallels the increased IMD counts in these tumors. In contrast, in low grade gliomas, angiogenic factors other than VEGF may contribute to vascular proliferation. The results emphasize the role of antiangiogenic therapy as an optimal tool in therapeutic strategies as they become available.  相似文献

Axillary lymph node status is the most important prognostic factor in predicting disease outcome in women with breast cancer. A number of chromosomal aberrations in primary breast tumors have been correlated with lymph node status and clinical outcome, but chromosomal changes particular to metastatic lymph node tumors have not been well studied. DNA samples isolated from laser-microdissected primary breast and metastatic axillary lymph node tumors from 25 women with invasive breast cancer were amplified using 52 microsatellite markers defining 26 chromosomal regions commonly deleted in breast cancer. Levels and patterns of allelic imbalance (AI) within and between breast and lymph node tumors were assessed to identify chromosomal alterations unique to primary or metastatic tumors and to examine the timing of metastatic potential. The overall frequency of AI in primary breast tumors (0.24) was significantly greater (P < 0.001) than that in lymph node tumors (0.10), and congruent AI events were observed for < 20% of informative markers. AI at chromosomes 11q23.3 and 17p13.3 occurred significantly more frequently (P < 0.05) in primary breast tumors alone; no chromosomal regions showed a significantly higher AI frequency in lymph nodes. Higher rates of AI in primary versus metastatic lymph node tumors suggest that acquisition of metastatic potential may be an early event in carcinogenesis, occurring before significant levels of AI accumulate in the primary tumor. In addition, patterns of AI were highly discordant between tumor types, suggesting that additional genetic alterations accumulated independently in the two cell populations.  相似文献

The purpose of this retrospective study was to determine whether the intensity of tumor angiogenesis, expressed as microvessel density (MD), is indeed an important parameter predicting lymph node metastasis and survival rate in 73 women operated on for early invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix in stages Ib and IIa (FIGO). Angiogenesis was quantified by light microscope (LM) using an assay for vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). In the study, differences were revealed by comparing the MD between both groups. The patient survival with high MD was significantly worse than for those with low MD (p<0.01). A correlation was found between MD and the incidence of lymph node metastases. Hence, quantitative analysis of MD used as the expression of VEGF in the each cervical squamous cell carcinomas could be useful as a significant prognostic indicator.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To quantitate tumor angiogenesis in carcinoma of the breast (stage T2N0M0) by computerized image analysis of CD-31-stained histologic sections and, keeping in view the heterogeneity of tumors, to assess which areas of neovascularization provide the best prognostic indicator. STUDY DESIGN: Thirty-six cases of infiltrating duct carcinoma of the breast, stage T2N0M0, with follow-up of five years, were analyzed. All cases had received uniform initial treatment in the form of mastectomy with axillary clearance and radiotherapy. Intratumoral microvessel density (IMD) counts were done on "hot spots" and "non-hot spots" on CD-31-stained sections using computerized image analysis. Angiogenesis was correlated with other variables, such as age, menopausal status, histologic grade and proliferative activity by univariate and multivariate analyses. RESULTS: Hot-spot IMD counts were highly significant independent prognostic markers in univariate and multivariate analyses. Background vascularity of a tumor was of no value in prognosticating. CONCLUSION: In patients with node negative breast carcinoma, IMD counts in hot spots are an independent prognostic factor in disease-free and overall survival and can be used to separate out patients with T2N0M0 stage in need of systemic adjuvant therapy.  相似文献

The cellular response to hypoxia includes the expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) and its target genes: vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and CXC chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4). The aim of this study was to investigate the expression and prognostic significance of VEGF and CXCR4, which are responsible for angiogenesis and progression in gastric cancer. Twenty-eight gastric cancer patients were analyzed. The mRNA expression was examined in primary tumors and corresponding normal gastric mucosa by RT-PCR. The protein level was examined by immunohistochemistry staining. The high expression of VEGF and CXCR4 was found in 71.0 and 64.0% of tumors, respectively. The mean levels of VEGF and CXCR4 were upregulated in primary tumors compared to normal mucosa (p = 0.0007, p = 0.0052). A correlation between VEGF expression and tumor invasion (p = 0.0216) and stage (p = 0.0181) was found. CXCR4 expression correlated with lymph node metastases (p = 0.0237) and stage (p = 0.0054). The VEGF expression correlated with microvessel density (MVD) (p = 0.0491). The overall 3-year survival rate was 46.4% and correlated negatively with high CXCR4 mRNA expression (p = 0.0089). VEGF and CXCR4 play an important role in tumor progression. Their overexpression correlates with a bad prognosis and may improve high-risk patient selection, and these patients may obtain additional survival benefits if treated more aggressively.  相似文献

Growth of solid tumors beyond a certain mass is dependent on the vascular bed from pre-existing host vasculature. The process of angiogenesis is essential not only for primary tumor growth but also for metastasis. The number of microvessels within the invasive component of a primary tumor reflects the degree of tumor angiogenesis. At present the most widely used method to assess neovascularization is the quantitation of intratumoral microvessel density (IMD) by immunohistochemical methods in which specific markers for endothelial cells are employed. In this paper we analyze the different methods used to assess IMD, as well as their advantages and potential methodological pitfalls. Several studies have shown a close correlation between IMD, tumor growth and the occurrence of metastasis, suggesting that IMD is a prognostic indicator of clinical relevance. Furthermore, preliminary studies suggest that determination of angiogenesis may predict responsiveness to some forms of conventional anticancer therapy. Although the histological microvessel density technique is the current gold standard to characterize tumor angiogenesis, it may not be the ideal tool for clinical purposes because it needs to be performed on biopsy material and does not assess the functional pathways involved in the angiogenic activity of tumors. Non-invasive assessment of tumor vascularity is possible in vivo by means of Doppler sonography, dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET). These methods may be preferable to histological assay because they are non-invasive, survey the entire tumor, reflect both anatomic and physiologic characteristics, and may be useful to monitor the activity of antiangiogenic therapies.  相似文献

Objective

This study was to explore the role of EFEMP1 in ovarian tumor progression and its relationship with prognosis of ovarian carcinoma.

Methods

EFEMP1 mRNA and protein expressions in normal ovarian tissue, ovarian tumor, high invasive subclones and low invasive subclones were evaluated by immunohistochemistry and real time RT-PCR. Serum EFEMP1 levels in patients with ovarian tumor were measured by ELISA assay. To assess the angiogenic properties of EFEMP1, VEGF and tumor microvessel density were analyzed in ovarian carcinoma by immunohistochemistry.

Results

EFEMP1 expression was up-regulated in ovarian carcinoma, positively correlated with MVD and VEGF, and its overexpression and high serum levels were significantly associated with high stage, low differentiation, lymph node metastasis and poor prognosis of ovarian cancer. EFEMP1 expression was also found to be over-expressed in the highly invasive subclones compared with the low invasive subclones.

Conclusion

EFEMP1 is a newly identified gene over-expressed in ovarian cancer, associated with poor clinicopathologic features and promotes angiogenesis. This study shows that EFEMP1 may serve as a new prognostic factor and a therapeutic target for patients with ovarian cancer in the future.  相似文献

The matrix protein osteopontin has been shown to be a marker of osteoclastic activity in multiple myeloma patients, as well as a regulator of angiogenesis. We measured serum levels of osteopontin in 50 untreated multiple myeloma patients (in 25, also after treatment) and examined the relation to markers of osteolytic and angiogenic activity. The median (range) of serum osteopontin was 85 (5-232) in the patient group vs. 36 (2-190) ng/ml in the control group. Serum osteopontin levels were significantly higher in patients with advanced stage or grade of myeloma disease. All patients with serum osteopontin levels >100 ng/ml had advanced stage (II or III) or high grade bone disease, whereas stage I or low grade patients had serum osteopontin levels <100ng/ml. Serum osteopontin levels significantly decreased after treatment. There was a positive correlation of osteopontin with the bone turnover marker N-terminal propeptide of procollagen type I (NTx) and the angiogenic markers vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and bone marrow microvessel density (r: 0.35, 0.47 and 0.30 respectively, p < 0.05). These results support osteopontin as a dual marker of bone destruction and angiogenic activity in myeloma patients. Osteopontin represents a useful biomarker for monitoring myeloma disease activity.  相似文献

Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta)1 is thought to be involved in breast carcinogenesis. TGF-beta1 acts in an antiproliferative manner in the early stages of breast carcinogenesis, but promotes tumor progression and metastases in the advanced stages of the disease. No data have been published on serum TGF-beta1 in breast cancer. We investigated TGF-beta1 serum levels in patients with breast cancer (n=135), ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) I to III (n=67) or fibroadenoma (n=35), and in healthy women (n=40) to determine its value as a differentiation marker between malignant, pre-invasive and benign diseases and as a predictive marker for metastatic spread. Median (range) TGF-beta1 serum levels in patients with breast cancer, DCIS I-III or benign breast lesions and in healthy women were 48.8 (18-82.4) pg/mL, 45.3 (26.9-58.3) pg/mL, 47.2 (17.2-80.5) pg/mL and 51.6 (30.9-65.1) pg/mL, respectively (p=0.2). In breast cancer patients TGF-beta1 serum levels showed no statistically significant correlation with tumor stage, lymph node involvement, histological grade, estrogen receptor status and progesterone receptor status. Our data fail to indicate any correlation between serum TGF-beta1 levels and clinicopathological parameters of breast diseases. Serum TGF-beta1 levels do not provide clinical information in addition to established tumor markers.  相似文献

目的:研究转化生长因子-β1(transforming growth factor-β1,TGF-β1)和血管内皮生长因子(vascular endothelial cell growth factor,VEGF)在乳腺癌组织中的表达及其与血管生成的关系。方法:选取65例手术切除乳腺癌蜡块标本及其周围正常乳腺组织,分为两组:A组为对照组,检测标本为乳腺癌癌旁正常乳腺组织;B组为实验组,检测标本为乳腺癌组织,采用免疫组织化学染色和形态计量检测TGF-β1和VEGF在乳腺癌组织中的表达。利用CD34相关抗原标记血管内皮细胞,计数微血管密度(intratumoral mier oveseulardensity,MVD),并分析其与TGF-β1和VEGF表达的关系。结果:65例乳腺癌组织中,TGF-β1的阳性表达率为69.23%(45/65),TGF-β1阳性表达者MVD值(25.31±4.05)显著高于TGF-β1阴性表达者(21.23±4.29);VEGF的阳性表达率为78.46%(51/65),VEGF阳性表达者MVD值(26.62±3.41)亦明显显著高于VEGF阴性表达者(18.95±6.52)(均P<0.05)。不同病理类型的乳腺癌组织中TGF-β1、VEGF的阳性表达率比较差异无统计学意义(P>0.05),但TGF-β1、VEGF的阳性表达与乳腺癌的组织分级、淋巴结转移呈显著正相关(均P<0.05),且组织学分级越高、淋巴结转移越多,MVD值越大。结论:TGF-β1与VEGF在乳腺癌组织的表达高于正常乳腺组织,并与乳腺癌肿瘤血管的生成有关,二者有望作为乳腺癌恶性程度、浸润转移等生物学行为的评估指标。  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Male breast cancer is a rare but aggressive and devastating disease. This disease presents at a later stage and in a more advanced fashion than its female counterpart. The immunophenotype also appears to be distinct when compared to female breast cancer. Angiogenesis plays a permissive role in the development of a solid tumor and provides an avenue for nutrient exchange and waste removal. Recent scrutiny of angiogenesis in female breast cancer has shown it to be of significant prognostic value. It was hypothesized that this holds true in invasive ductal carcinoma of the male breast. In the context of male breast cancer, we investigated the relationship of survival and other clinico-pathological variables to the microvascular density of the tumor tissue. METHODS: Seventy-five cases of primary male breast cancer were identified using the records of the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency over a period of 26 years. Forty-seven cases of invasive ductal carcinoma of the male breast had formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue blocks that were suitable for this study. All cases were reviewed. Immunohistochemical staining was performed for the angiogenic markers (cluster designations 31 (CD31), 34 (CD34) and 105 (CD105), von Willebrand factor (VWF), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)). Microvascular density (MVD) was determined using average, centre, and highest microvessel counts (AMC, CMC, and HMC, respectively). Statistical analyses compared differences in the distribution of survival times and times to relapse between levels of MVD, tumor size, node status and age at diagnosis. In addition, MVD values were compared within each marker, between each marker, and were also compared to clinico-pathological data. RESULTS: Advanced age and tumor size were related to shorter survival times. There were no statistically significant differences in distributions of survival times and times to relapse between levels of MVD variables. There was no significant difference in MVD between levels of the different clinico-pathological variables. MVD was strongly and significantly correlated between AMC, CMC and HMC for CD31, CD34, and CD105 (p < 0.01) and remained moderate to weak for VWF and VEGF. CONCLUSION: Microvascular density does not appear to be an independent prognostic factor in male breast cancer. However, the likelihood of death for men with breast cancer is increased in the presence of increased age at diagnosis and advanced tumor size. This is perhaps linked to inherent tumor vasculature, which is strongly related throughout a tumor section.  相似文献

Metastasis of breast cancer occurs primarily through the lymphatic system, and the extent of lymph node involvement is a key prognostic factor for the disease. Whereas the significance of angiogenesis for tumor progression has been well documented, the ability of tumor cells to induce the growth of lymphatic vessels (lymphangiogenesis) and the presence of intratumoral lymphatic vessels have been controversial. Using a novel marker for lymphatic endothelium, LYVE-1, we demonstrate here the occurrence of intratumoral lymphangiogenesis within human breast cancers after orthotopic transplantation onto nude mice. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-C overexpression in breast cancer cells potently increased intratumoral lymphangiogenesis, resulting in significantly enhanced metastasis to regional lymph nodes and to lungs. The degree of tumor lymphangiogenesis was highly correlated with the extent of lymph node and lung metastases. These results establish the occurrence and biological significance of intratumoral lymphangiogenesis in breast cancer and identify VEGF-C as a molecular link between tumor lymphangiogenesis and metastasis.  相似文献

The vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and the plasminogen activator system play an essential role in solid tumor angiogenesis and in tumor invasion and metastasis. In the present study we investigated the relationship between patient outcome and levels of VEGF, urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) in tumor cytosols of 196 node-negative primary invasive breast cancer patients who did not receive any adjuvant therapy. The median follow-up was 65 months. VEGF, uPA and PAI-1 were measured by commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Cox's univariate analysis showed that pT (p = 0.0007), uPA (p = 0.0156) and PAI-1 (p = 0.0015) had a significant impact on relapse-free survival, whereas VEGF did not have any prognostic value (p = 0.18). Bivariate analysis showed significant interactions between uPA and PAI-1 (p = 0.0035) and between VEGF and PAI-1 (p = 0.006). Our study confirms that uPA and PAI-1 cytosol levels can be considered as prognostic factors for relapse-free survival in node-negative breast cancer. Moreover, the interaction between VEGF and PAI-1 warrants further investigation into the relationship between the biomarkers of angiogenesis and those of the protease cascade.  相似文献

目的:研究肺癌患者血清中血管内皮生长因子(VEGF)、组织金属蛋白酶抑制剂1(TIMP-1)、基质金属蛋白酶9(MMP-9)水平变化及临床意义。方法:选取2014年3月至2016年3月来我院治疗的91例肺癌患者为病例组,同期选取40例健康者为对照组,酶联免疫吸附测定法(ELISA)测定两组血清VEGF、TIMP-1、MMP-9水平,分析肺癌患者上述指标与病理特征的关系,并采用spearman检验分析相关性。结果:病例组血清VEGF、TIMP-1、MMP-9水平均高于对照组,差异均具有统计学意义(P0.05)。肺癌患者血清VEGF、TIMP-1、MMP-9水平均与肿瘤体积大小、TNM分期、淋巴结转移、远处转移有关(P0.05)。肺癌患者血清MMP-9与TIMP-1正相关(r=0.337,P0.05)、血清MMP-9与VEGF正相关(r=0.312,P0.05)、血清TIMP-1与VEGF正相关(r=0.316,P0.05)。结论:血清VEGF、TIMP-1、MMP-9相互作用、协同参与肺癌的发生及侵袭转移,可作为肺癌诊断及预后评估的生物学标志物。  相似文献

摘要 目的:探讨外周血循环肿瘤细胞(CTC)、血管内皮生长因子(VEGF)的水平与晚期非小细胞肺癌临床特征及化疗疗效的关系。方法:选取我院2017年1月到2020年1月收治的80例晚期非小细胞肺癌患者作为研究对象,所有患者均采取一线方案化疗,分析外周血CTC、VEGF的水平与患者的年龄、性别等的关系,并对晚期非小细胞肺癌化疗疗效进行单因素与多因素COX分析。结果:CTC、VEGF与不同性别、年龄患者和TNM分期无明显关系(P>0.05),与淋巴结转移、肿瘤分化程度、肿瘤大小有关(P<0.05);80例患者中,客观缓解率(ORR)为51.25 %(41/80),疾病控制率(DCR)为71.25 %(57/80);淋巴结转移、肿瘤分化程度、CTC和血清VEGF水平为晚期非小细胞肺癌患者ORR、DCR的影响因素(P<0.05);COX分析分析表明:肿瘤中、低分化、CTC阴性、VEGF降低为晚期非小细胞肺癌化疗ORR和DCR提升的独立影响因素(P<0.05)。结论:外周血CTC、VEGF检测对于晚期非小细胞肺癌化疗近远期疗效评估具有重要价值,属于预后独立影响因素。因此,CTC、VEGF可作为晚期非小细胞肺癌的预后及疗效判断的指标。  相似文献

Effective inhibition of angiogenesis targeting the tumor endothelial cells requires identification of key cellular and molecular mechanisms associated with survival of vasculatures within the tumor microenvironment. Intracellular autocrine (intracrine) VEGF production by endothelial cells plays a critical role on the vasculature homeostasis. In vitro breast cancer cell-stimulated activation of the unfolded protein response (UPR) of the endothelial cells contributes to maintenance of the intracrine VEGF levels in the endothelial cells through the upregulation of a previous undescribed downstream effector- αB-crystallin (CRYAB). siRNA-mediated knockdown of two major UPR proteins-inositol requiring kinase 1 and ATF6, led to attenuated CRYAB expression of the endothelial cells. Finally, inhibition of CRYAB blocked the breast cancer cell-stimulated increase in the endogenous VEGF levels of the endothelial cells. A VEGF limited proteolysis assay further revealed that CRYAB protected VEGF for proteolytic degradation. Here, we report that the molecular chaperone-CRYAB was significantly increased and colocalized with tumor vessels in a breast cancer xenograft. Specifically, neutralization of VEGF induced higher levels of CRYAB expression in the endothelial cells cocultured with MDA-MB-231 or the breast cancer xenograft with a significant survival benefit. However, knockdown of CRYAB had a greater inhibitory effect on endothelial survival. These findings underscore the importance of defining a role for intracrine VEGF signaling in sustaining aberrant tumor angiogenesis and strongly implicate UPR/CRYAB as dichotomous parts of a crucial regulation pathway for maintaining intracrine VEGF signaling.  相似文献

We have previously reported that breast cancer cells which overexpress HER2 produce higher levels of VEGF than cells with low levels of HER2. This study tested the hypothesis that dual targeting of the VEGF (with VEGF-Trap) and HER2 (with trastuzumab) pathways would result in greater growth inhibition of HER2-overexpressing breast cancer xenografts than either agent alone. In this study we found that human and murine endothelial cells expressed high levels of VEGF receptors (VEGFR1, VEGFR2, & VEGFR3). VEGF-Trap decreased levels of secreted VEGF derived from both human and murine cells and effectively blocked VEGF-induced tyrosine phosphorylation of VEGFR2. VEGF-Trap as a single treatment inhibited tumor microvessel density (MVD), tumor vasculature, cell proliferation, and tumor growth of BT474 xenografts in a dose-dependent manner from 2.5 mg/kg to 25 mg/kg. VEGF-Trap decreased levels of both human VEGF and PlGF protein in vivo. Trastuzumab as a single agent effectively inhibited BT474 tumor growth in a dose-dependent manner, associated with a decrease in human VEGF, tumor MVD and tumor cell proliferation. Treatment with a combination of VEGF-Trap (2.5-10 mg/kg) and trastuzumab (1 mg/kg) produced significantly greater inhibition of BT474tumor growth than either individual agent, associated with greater inhibition of tumor MVD and tumor cell proliferation. Thus, VEGF-Trap in combination with trastuzumab produces superior growth inhibition of tumor xenografts which overexpress HER2, which may result from inhibition of both tumor angiogenesis and proliferation. ObjectivesVascular endothelial cell growth factor (VEGF) plays an important role in the biology of gynecological cancer, usually linked with aggressive tumour behaviour and a poor postoperative outcome. Yet, its role in benign breast/gynecological conditions is less clear.MethodsSerum VEGF was analysed in a series of 49 patients with gynecological cancer and 61 patients with benign disease and compared to those of 12 normal female subjects. In addition, the activation status of VEGFR2/KDR receptors was investigated in formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissues and related to VEGF.ResultsMean serum levels of VEGF were significantly higher in patients with breast, endometrial and ovarian cancer compared to healthy controls and those with benign breast/gynecologic disease in the respective organs. A similar trend was noted in some cases of simple endometrial hyperplasia, fibroadenoma and fibrocystic disease of the breast. The expression of phosphorylated VEGFR2/KDR receptors was higher in breast, endometrial, ovarian cancer in patients with high VEGF serum levels and this reached a level of statistical significance when all malignancies were combined.ConclusionsSerum VEGF levels are increased in patients with breast and gynecological malignancies, but this can not be considered pathognomonic for cancer as it is also increased in certain benign conditions, including cases of fibroadenoma, fibrocystic disease of breast and simple endometrial hyperplasia. Furthermore, high serum VEGF levels are closely related to the activation status of the VEGFR2/KDR receptor in cancer cells, indicating a stimulatory effect of serum VEGF on the VEGF pathway contributing to tumor progression.  相似文献
