A hydroponic experiment was conducted to assess the possible involvement of polyamines (PAs), abscisic acid (ABA) and anti-oxidative enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT) in adaptation of six populations of Panicum antidotale Retz. to selection pressure (soil salinity) of a wide range of habitats. Plants of six populations were collected from six different habitats with ECe ranging from 3.39 to 19.23 dS m−1 and pH from 7.65 to 5.86. Young tillers from 6-month-old plants were transplanted in plastic containers each containing 10 l of half strength Hoagland's nutrient solution alone or with 150 mol m−3 NaCl. After 42 days growth, contents of polyamines (Put, Spd and Spm) and ABA, and the activities of anti-oxidative enzymes (SOD, POD and CAT) of all populations generally increased under salt stress. The populations collected from highly saline habitats showed a greater accumulation of polyamines and ABA and the activities of anti-oxidative enzymes as compared to those from mild or non-saline habitats. Moreover, Spm/Spd and Put/(Spd + Spm) ratios generally increased under salt stress. However, the populations from highly saline environments had significantly higher Spm/Spd and Put/(Spd + Spm) ratios as compared to those from mild or non-saline environments. Similarly, the populations adapted to high salinity accumulated less Na+ and Cl in culm and leaves, and showed less decrease in leaf K+ and Ca2+ under salinity stress. Higher activities of anti-oxidative enzymes and accumulation of polyamines and ABA, and increased Spm/Spd and Put/(Spm + Spd) ratios were found to be highly correlated with the degree of adaptability of Panicum to saline environment.  相似文献

The influence of exogenous spermidine (Spd) on arginine decarboxylase (ADC), ornithine decarboxylase (ODC), polyamine oxidase (PAO) activities and polyamines (PAs), proline contents in water hyacinth leaves under Mercury (Hg) stress was investigated after 6 days treatment. The results showed that free putrescine (Put) content increased, the contents of free spermidine (Spd) and spermine (Spm) and the (Spd + Spm)/Put ratio in water hyacinth leaves decreased significantly with the increase of the Hg concentrations. Hg stress also disturbed the activities of ADC, ODC and PAO and caused changes on proline content. Compared to the Hg-treatment only, exogenous Spd (0.1 mM) significantly reduced the accumulation of free Put, increased the contents of free Spd and Spm and the ratio of (Spd + Spm)/Put in water hyacinth leaves. Furthermore, exogenous Spd enhanced the activities of ADC, ODC and PAO and significantly increased proline content. The PS-conjugated PAs and PIS-bound PAs changed in the same trend as free PAs. These results suggest that exogenous Spd can alleviate the metabolic disturbance of polyamines caused by Hg in water hyacinth leaves.  相似文献

Prior to sowing, seeds of bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) were treated with 4 mM arginine or 0.1% urea, as nitrogen source. The seeds were then subjected to salinity stress. Arginine and urea treatments stimulated germination of both unstressed and salinity-stressed seeds. It was interesting to observe that the increased germination percentage in response to arginine and urea treatments was associated with increased content of polyamines, particularly putrescine (Put), spermidine (Spd) and spermine (Spm). Growth of the seedlings was also improved by application of arginine and urea, which was also associated with increased content of the polyamines Spd and Spm, while the Put content decreased. Total soluble sugars were much accumulated in response to arginine and urea treatments under salinity stress for cellular osmoregulation. The ratio of K+/Na+ increased in the leaves by application of arginine and urea, indicating a more alleviation to the adverse effects of salinity stress. Changes in proteinogenic amino acids were also investigated.  相似文献

In order to gain information on the putative involvement of polyamines (PAs) in the response of rice cells to salinity, mature embryo-derived calli issued from the salt-sensitive cultivar I Kong Pao were exposed for 3 months to the simultaneous presence of NaCl (0, 150 and 300 mM) and exogenous polyamines (putrescine (Put): 1 and 10 mM; spermidine (Spd): 1 and 10 mM; spermine (Spm): 1 mM). Callus growth, endogenous PAs, Na+, K+ and Cl concentrations were quantified and analysed in relation to cell viability based on 2,3,5-triphenytetrazolium chloride (TTC) reduction. All exogenous PAs were efficiently absorbed from the external medium. Exogenous Put 1 mM clearly stimulated growth of salt-stressed calli in relation to a decrease in both Na+ and Cl accumulation. In contrast, Spd 10 mM and Spm 1 mM exacerbated the deleterious impact of NaCl on callus growth and induced a decrease in K+ concentration. While Put helped in the maintenance of cell viability, Spd 10 mM and Spm 1 mM decreased cell viability, mainly in relation to an inhibition of the alternative respiratory pathway. It is proposed that Put may assume positive functions in salt stress resistance in rice.  相似文献

Distribution of biogenic amines—the diamine putrescine (Put), triamine spermidine (Spd), and tetraamine spermine (Spm)—differs between species with Put and Spd being particularly abundant and Spm the least abundant in plant cells. These amines are important for cell viability and their intracellular levels are tightly regulated, which have made it difficult to characterize individual effects of Put, Spd and Spm on plant growth and developmental processes. The recent transgenic intervention and mutational genetics have made it possible to stably alter levels of naturally occurring polyamines and study their biological effects. We bring together an analysis of certain metabolic changes, particularly in amino acids, to infer the responsive regulation brought about by increased diamine or polyamine levels in actively growing poplar cell cultures (transformed with mouse ornithine decarboxylase gene to accumulate high Put levels) and ripening tomato pericarp (transformed with yeast S-adenosylmethionine decarboxylase gene to accumulate high Spd and Spm levels at the cost of Put). Our analysis indicates that increased Put has little effect on increasing the levels of Spd and Spm, while Spd and Spm levels are inter-dependent. Further, Put levels were positively associated with Ala (α and β), Ile and GABA and negatively correlated with Gln and Glu in both actively growing poplar cell cultures and non-dividing tomato pericarp tissue. Most amino acids showed positive correlations with Spd and Spm levels in actively growing cells. Collectively these results suggest that Put is a negative regulator while Spd–Spm are positive regulators of cellular amino acid metabolism.  相似文献

The effects of cold, osmotic stress and abscisic acid (ABA) on polyamine accumulation were compared in the moderately freezing-sensitive wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) variety Chinese Spring (CS) and in two derived chromosome 5A substitution lines, CS(T. spelta 5A) and CS(Cheyenne 5A), exhibiting lower and higher levels of freezing tolerance, respectively. When compared with the other treatments, putrescine (Put) and spermidine (Spd) levels were much greater after cold treatment, spermine (Spm) following polyethylene glycol-induced (PEG) osmotic stress and Spm and cadaverine (Cad) after ABA treatment. During 3-week cold stress, the Put concentration, first exhibited a transient increase and decrease, and then gradually increased. These alterations may be due to changes in the expression of genes encoding the enzymes of Put synthesis. The Put content was higher in the freezing-tolerant chromosome 5A substitution line than in the sensitive one after 3 weeks of cold. In contrast to cold, ABA and PEG induced a continuous decrease in the Spd level when applied for a period of 3 weeks. The Spm content, which increased after PEG and ABA addition, was twice as high as that of Put during ABA treatment at most sampling points, but this difference was lower in the case of PEG. The Cad level, induced to a great extent by ABA, was much lower when compared with that of the other polyamines. The present experiments indicate that cold, osmotic stress and ABA have different effects on polyamines, and that some of these changes are affected by chromosome 5A and correlate with the level of stress tolerance.  相似文献

The effects of polyamines (Putrescine— Put; Spermidine—Spd; and Spermine—Spm) on␣salt tolerance of seedlings of two barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) cultivars (J4, salt-tolerant; KP7, salt-sensitive) were investigated. The results showed that, the salt-tolerant cultivar J4 seedlings accumulated much higher levels of Spd and Spm and lower Put than the salt-sensitive cultivar KP7␣under salt stress. At the same time, the dry weight of KP7 decreased significantly than that of␣J4. After methylglyoxal bis(guanylhydrazone) [MGBG, an inhibitor of S-adenosylmethionine decarboxylase (SAMDC)] treatment, Spd and Spm levels together with the dry weight of both cultivars were reduced, but the salt-caused dry weight reduction in two cultivars could be reversed by the concomitant treatment with Spd. MGBG decreased the activities of tonoplast H+-ATPase and H+-PPase too, but the experiments in vitro indicated that MGBG was not able to affect the above two enzyme activities. However, the polyamines, especially Spd, promoted their activities obviously. These results suggested that the conversion of Put to Spd and Spm and maintenance of higher levels of Spd and Spm were necessary for plant salt tolerance.  相似文献

Six-month-old, uniform-sized seedlings of Cleopatra mandarin growing in hydroponics in Hoagland nutrient solution under glasshouse conditions were subjected to salinity treatment (NaCl 75 mM). Addition of NaCl to the nutrient medium reduced plant growth (shoot height and leaf number), leaf chlorophyll content, chlorophyll fluorescence yields (Fv/Fm), net photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, transpiration rate, intracellular CO2 concentration, N, K+ and Ca2+ + Mg2+ contents of the leaves; and increased total putrescine (Put), proline and Na+ and Cl contents of the leaves. Addition of d-arginine (1 mM) to the saline medium further reduced the values of all the parameters except Fv/Fm, photosynthesis and related parameters and Ca2+ + Mg2+ contents of the leaves, and increased total spermine (Spm) content of the leaves. However, total Put contents were decreased; spermidine (Spd) contents and Na+ and Cl titres of the leaves were unaffected. Weekly spray of d-arginine (5 mM) was less harmful than its addition to the nutrient medium (1 mM). Addition of 0.5 mM Spd to the medium alleviated the adverse effects of d-arginine by improving plant growth, leaf chlorophyll content, total Put, Spd, Spm, N, P, K+ and Ca2+ + Mg2+ contents of the leaves. Weekly spray of Spd (5 mM) was less effective than its addition in the nutrient medium (0.5 mM).  相似文献

In order to determine the impact of polyamines on the yield-related parameters of rice (Oryza sativa L.) exposed to NaCl, the plants belonging to a salt-sensitive cultivar I Kong Pao were maintained from the young seedling stage until harvest on nutrient solutions containing 0 or 30 mM NaCl in the presence or absence of 10 μM putrescine (Put), 10 μM spermidine (Spd) or 10 μM spermine (Spm). Exogenous Put and to a lesser extent exogenous Spd improved growth and yield of salt-treated plants in relation to an increase in K+/Na+ ratio of shoots and roots as compared to plants exposed to NaCl in the absence of exogenous polyamines. Exogenous Put also improved the net CO2 assimilation, at least partly as a consequence of an increase in the stomatal conductance. Yield increase of salt-treated plants exposed to Put was related to an improvement of floral morphogenesis leading to a higher number of fertile tillers per plant and a higher number of spikelets per panicle. Putrescine also improved the pollen viability in salt-treated plants, allowing a higher seed set and thus a higher grain yield per plant. Although polyamines accumulated in the shoots to some extent in response to exogenous application, neither Put nor Spd accumulated in the seeds. In contrast, Spm did not afford any protection of salt-treated plants but was translocated to the seeds during maturation. Seeds with a high internal Spm concentration exhibited delayed germination in the presence of NaCl. These data are discussed in relation to the implication of polyamine in the metabolism and physiology of salt-treated plants.  相似文献

Polyamines are known to influence a variety of growth and developmental processes in higher plants. Tissue browning seriously reduces in vitro plant regeneration in pine species by decreasing the levels of antioxidant enzymes and polyamines in tissue cultures. In the present investigation, the effect of exogenously added polyamines on recovering browning tissues into normal callus cultures and on improving plant regeneration was examined in Virginia pine ( Pinus virginiana Mill.). Among the polyamines administered, 1.5 m M putrescine (Put), 1.5 m M spermidine (Spd), or 1.5 m M spermine (Spm) alone resulted in a 19.55%, 18.92%, and 1.45%, respectively, recovering of browning tissues into normal callus cultures in 5 weeks. A combination of Put with Spd or Spm did not result in an increase of recovering rate, compared to the Put or Spd alone. Exogenously added 1.5 m M Put, 1.5 m M Spd, 1.5 m M Put + 1.5 m M Spd, or 1.5 m M Put + 1.5 m M Spm recovers browning tissues into normal callus cultures by increasing the activity of antioxidant enzymes ascorbate peroxidase (APOX), glutathione reductase (GR) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) and by decreasing lipid peroxidation. Exogenously added 1.5 m M Put, 1.5 m M Spd, 1.5 m M Put + 1.5 m M Spd, or 1.5 m M Put + 1.5 m M Spm significantly improve the growth rate of callus cultures, shoot formation, and rooting adventitious shoots. These results demonstrated that exogenously added polyamines recover browning tissues into normal callus cultures by decreasing oxidative damage and improving plant regeneration by acting as plant growth substances.  相似文献

Growth rate, mineral composition and changes in polyamine concentration induced in response to salinity were studied in six crop species: spinach, lettuce, bean, pepper, beetroot and tomato. Salinity decreased growth rate, but sensitivity differed amongst the species: pepper being the most sensitive, followed by bean, tomato, lettuce and spinach, with beetroot being the most tolerant. The increase of Na+ and total cation with salinity in shoots was the highest in spinach and beetroot, the most tolerant species, while in pepper it was the lowest. Changes in putrescine (Put) concentration in shoots were related to salinity tolerance (increased in the most sensitive), while changes in spermidine (Spd; decreases) and spermine (Spm; increases) were similar with most species, except for pepper in which salinity strongly increased Put, Spd and Spm. Therefore, total polyamine concentration increased in pepper shoot, while it decreased in the other species. Thus, results show that Put accumulation was a consequence of salt stress in the most sensitive species, while salt tolerant species (beetroot) showed little change in polyamine concentration, and higher concentration in both Na+ and total cations. The role of polyamines or cation increased concentration after saline treatment in species with different salt tolerance is discussed.  相似文献

The effect of up-regulation of putrescine (Put) production by genetic manipulation on the turnover of spermidine (Spd) and spermine (Spm) was investigated in transgenic cells of poplar (Populus nigra × maximowiczii) and seedlings of Arabidopsis thaliana. Several-fold increase in Put production was achieved by expressing a mouse ornithine decarboxylase cDNA either under the control of a constitutive (in poplar) or an inducible (in Arabidopsis) promoter. The transgenic poplar cells produced and accumulated 8–10 times higher amounts of Put than the non-transgenic cells, whereas the Arabidopsis seedlings accumulated up to 40-fold higher amounts of Put; however, in neither case the cellular Spd or Spm increased consistently. The rate of Spd and Spm catabolism and the half-life of cellular Spd and Spm were measured by pulse-chase experiments using [14C]Spd or [14C]Spm. Spermidine half-life was calculated to be about 22–32 h in poplar and 52–56 h in Arabidopsis. The half-life of cellular Spm was calculated to be approximately 24 h in Arabidopsis and 36–48 h in poplar. Both species were able to convert Spd to Spm and Put, and Spm to Spd and Put. The rates of Spd and Spm catabolism in both species were several-fold slower than those of Put, and the overproduction of Put had only a small effect on the overall rates of turnover of Spd or Spm. There was little effect on the rates of Spd to Spm conversion as well as the conversion of Spm into lower polyamines. While Spm was mainly converted back to Spd and not terminally degraded, Spd was removed from the cells largely through terminal catabolism in both species.  相似文献

We studied the effects of chloride salinity (300 and 500 mM NaCl) on the content of free polyamines (PAs) from putrescine (Put) family in Mesembryanthemum crystallinum L. leaves and roots. The contents of Put and spermidine (Spd) in leaves increased temporarily, achieving the highest values on the third day of salinity treatment; thereafter (by days 7–14), they dropped sharply. The content of spermine (Spm) increased gradually, and its high level was maintained until the end of experiment. The dynamics of Spm accumulation in leaves under salinity conditions resembled that of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC), a key enzyme of the water-saving CAM pathway of photosynthesis. This indicates indirectly the involvement of Spm in the common ice plant adaptation to salinity. A decrease in the molar ratios of Spd to Spm in the leaves under salinity conditions could point to the acceleration of Spm biosynthesis (accumulation) during plant adaptation, whereas the levels of Spm precursors, Put and Spd, did not increase. This phenomenon could be explained by an accelerated conversion of Spd into Spm, an active liberation of free Spm from its conjugates, or changes in the rates of studied PA biosynthesis and degradation under salinity. At the same time, the intracellular concentration of ethylene rose under these conditions. It was supposed and then demonstrated, that the pathway of ethylene biosynthesis and that of the synthesis of Put family PAs compete under severe salinity conditions. This competition might be based on the disturbances in sulfur metabolism and a decrease in the methionine content, an immediate precursor of S-adenosyl-L-methionine.  相似文献

Influence of ladder concentration of nickel (Ni) on the leaves of Hydrocharis dubia were studied after 3 days treatment. The accumulation of Ni, the content of polyamines, proline, malondialdehyde (MDA) and soluble protein, as well as the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and peroxidase (POD) in the leaves were investigated. The result indicated that the toxicity of Ni manifested in respective aspect of physiological and biochemical characters. Significant increase of Ni concentration in the leaf tissue was observed, which was concentration dependent. Visible symptoms of Ni toxicity: chlorosis and necrosis occurred following the 3rd day. Meantime, treatment with Ni resulted in the increase in the generation rate of O2•− in the leaves. SOD and CAT activities decreased significantly in response to Ni treatment, it was possibly the reason of accumulation of O2•−. However, a several-fold decrease in POD activities was found. Our results indicated that because of prolonged increases in O2•− level, oxidative damage, measured as the level of lipid peroxidation, occured in the leaves of Ni treated fronds. The changes of the content of polyamines (PAs) were also investigated in the leaves of Hydrocharis dubia. Ni treatment significantly increased the putrescine (Put) level and lowered spermidine (Spd) and spermine (Spm) levels, thereby significantly reducing the ratio of free (Spd + Spm)/Put in leaves, which has been considered as the signal under stress. Although the trend that PS-conjugated PAs and PIS-bound PAs changed the same as free PAs, they changed in more less extent.  相似文献

Nitric oxide (NO), an endogenous signaling molecule in plants and animals, mediates responses to abiotic and biotic stresses. This study was conducted in nutrient solution to investigate the effects of exogenous sodium nitroprusside (SNP), an NO donor, on plant growth and free polyamine content in cucumber leaves and roots under NaCl stress. The results showed that 100 μM SNP in solution significantly improved the growth of cucumber seedlings under NaCl stress for 8 days, as indicated by increased, plant height, stem thickness, fresh weight and increased dry matter accumulation. Further analysis demonstrated that the content of free polyamines and the activity of polyamine oxidase (PAO) in cucumber seedling leaves and roots initially increased dramatically under NaCl stress, although they decreased over a longer period of stress. Throughout the treatment period, the value of (spermine + spermidine)/putrescine [(Spd + Spm)/Put] also decreased under NaCl stress compared to the control. In contrast, the application of 100 μM SNP in the nutrient solution decreased the content of free Put, Spd, total free polyamines and PAO activity under NaCl stress. It also caused an increase in the content of Spm and the value of (Spd + Spm)/Put, adjusted the ratio of three kinds of free polyamines (Put, Spd, Spm) in cucumber seedlings. The high (Spd + Spm)/Put value and the accumulation of Spm were beneficial to improving the salt tolerance of plants. Therefore, NO alleviated the damage to cucumber seedlings caused by salt stress. NO enhanced the tolerance of cucumber seedlings to NaCl stress by regulating the content and proportions of the different types of free polyamines.  相似文献

We present here the comparative protective potentiality of exogenously applied polyamines (PAs), namely spermidine (Spd) and spermine (Spm), in mitigating NaCl toxicity and inducing short-term salinity tolerance in three indica rice varieties, namely M-1-48 (salt-sensitive), Nonabokra (salt-tolerant) and Gobindobhog (highly sensitive). The retardation in root length or shoot length and toxic Na+ accumulation or K+ loss, the considerable increment in malondialdehyde/H2O2 accumulation or lipoxygenase activity, all of which were particularly noteworthy in M-1-48 and Gobindobhog during salinity stress, was appreciably reduced by co-treatment with Spd or Spm. Both the PAs also inhibited the extent of salt-induced protein carbonylation in all the varieties and enhanced protease activity, especially in Gobindobhog. The prevention of chlorophyll degradation was better with Spd in Nonabokra and Gobindobhog. While the salt-induced increase in anthocyanin or reducing sugar level was further prompted by Spd or Spm in all the varieties, the proline content was elevated by Spd particularly in Gobindobhog. During salinity stress, both the PAs were effective in lowering the putrescine accumulation in M-1-48 and Gobindobhog, and strikingly increasing the Spm level in all the varieties, the highest being in Gobindobhog. In addition, they enhanced the activity of peroxidases and compensated for the decreased catalase activity in all the varieties. Thus the two PAs could recuperate all the three varieties from salt-induced damages to different degrees. The salt injuries, encountered in M-1-48 and Gobindobhog, both of which showed greater susceptibility to salinity stress, were more pronouncedly alleviated and counteracted by the PAs, than the salt-tolerant Nonabokra. The reversal of inhibitory effect of salinity stress was conferred by preventing growth inhibition or various forms of cellular damages, maintaining proper K+/Na+ balance or triggering the level of osmolytes and activity of antioxidant enzymes. Our communication offers a referenced evidence for an understanding of the mechanism by which higher PAs relieve the damages particularly in salt-sensitive rice varieties.  相似文献

Putrescine (Put), spermidine (Spd), and spermine (Spm) are the major polyamines (PAs) in plant, which are not only involved in the regulation of plant developmental and physiological processes, but also play key roles in modulating the defense response of plants to diverse environmental stresses. In this study, Cucumis sativus L. seedlings were cultivated in nutrient solution and sprayed with three kinds of PAs (Put, Spd, and Spm). The effects of PAs were investigated on excess nitrate stress tolerance of C. sativus by measuring growth and nitrogen (N) metabolism parameters. The contents of NO3-?N, NH4-+N, proline and soluble protein in leaves were increased; while plant height, leaf area, shoot fresh and dry weight, root fresh weight were decreased under 140 mM NO3? treatment for 7 d. In addition, the activities of nitrate reductase (NR), glutamate synthase (GOGAT), and glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) were significantly inhibited under 140 mM NO3? treatment for 7 d. With foliar treatment by 1 mM Spd or Spm under stress treatment, the contents of Spm, Put, and Spd in leaves increased significantly, except that Spm content decreased under Spd treatment. The activities of NR, glutamine synthetase (GS), GOGAT and GDH and plant height, leaf area, shoot fresh and dry weights were significantly increased. The contents of proline and soluble protein in leaves were significantly enhanced. In contrast, the accumulation of NO3-?N and NH4-+N were significantly decreased. However, there were minor differences in activities of N metabolism enzymes and the content of osmotic adjustment substances under 1 mM Put treatment. These findings suggest that 1 mM exogenous Spm or Spd could enhance the capacity of N metabolism, promote growth and increase resistance to high concentrations of NO3?. The ameliorating effect of Spd was the best, and that of Put the worst.  相似文献

Cadmium-Induced Accumulation of Putrescine in Oat and Bean Leaves   总被引:8,自引:2,他引:6       下载免费PDF全文
The effects of Cd2+ on putrescine (Put), spermidine (Spd), and spermine (Spm) titers were studied in oat and bean leaves. Treatment with Cd2+ for up to 16 hours in the light or dark resulted in a large increase in Put titer, but had little or no effect on Spd or Spm. The activity of arginine decarboxylase (ADC) followed the pattern of Put accumulation, and experiments with α-difluoromethylarginine established that ADC was the enzyme responsible for Put increase. Concentrations of Cd2+ as low as 10 micromolar increased Put titer in oat segments. In bean leaves, there was a Cd2+-induced accumulation of Put in the free and soluble conjugated fractions, but not in the insoluble fraction. This suggests a rapid exchange between Put that exists in the free form and Put found in acid soluble conjugated forms. It is concluded that Cd2+ can act like certain other stresses (K+ and Mg2+ deficiency, excess NH4+, low pH, salinity, osmotic stress, wilting) to induce substantial increases in Put in plant cells.  相似文献

Interrelationship among abscisic acid (ABA) content, accumulation of free polyamines and biosynthesis of beta-N-oxalyl-l-alpha,beta-diaminopropionic acid (ODAP) was studied in grass pea (Lathyrus sativus L.) seedlings under drought stress induced by 10% polyethylene glycol (PEG6000). Increase of ABA content occurred prior to that of ODAP and polyamine contents, and was found significantly positive correlation between ABA content and ODAP content. Addition of exogenous ABA increased ODAP content in leaves. On the other hand, pretreatment with alpha-difluoromethylarginine (DFMA), a polyamine biosynthesis inhibitor, significantly suppressed the accumulation of free putrescine (Put), free spermidine (Spd) and free spermine (Spm), which in turn inhibited biosynthesis of ODAP in well-watered leaves. Meanwhile, addition of exogenous Put alleviated DFMA-induced inhibition on the biosynthesis of Put and Spd, but did not affect the biosynthesis of Spm and ODAP in well-watered leaves. Same result was also achieved in drought-stressed leaves. Increasing accumulation of ODAP was significantly correlated with increasing Spm content (R=0.7957**) but not with that of Spd and Put. Therefore, it can be argued that ABA stimulated the biosynthesis of ODAP simultaneously with increasing the level of free Spm under drought stress condition.  相似文献
