The aim of our studies was to test the effect and role of vitamin E and selenium supplements on yeast cell. In this study, the effects of selenium (Se), vitamin E (Vit. E), and their combination (Se plus Vit. E) on the composition of fatty acids and proteins were examined in Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains WET136 and 522. S. cerevisiae cells were grown up in YEPD medium supplemented with Se, Vit. E or their combination. It was found that the level of stearic acid was increased in all supplemented groups (p<0·05; p<0·001). The content of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids was decreased (p<0·05; p<0·01; p<0·001) in Vit. E and Vit. E plus Se supplemented S. cerevisiae. On the other hand, Se alone caused an increase (p<0·001) in the saturated fatty acids but a decrease (p<0·05; p<0·001) in the unsaturated fatty acids. Total proteins in S. cerevisiae were significantly increased (p<0·001) by Vit. E supplement. There was no significant change observed in S. cerevisiae supplemented with Se. These findings indicate that membrane composition of S. cerevisiae is affected by both Vit. E and Se supplements. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to determine the role of intraperitoneally‐administered vitamin E and selenium on the biochemical and haematological parameters in the blood of rats. Thirty‐two adult male Wistar rats were used in this study. All rats were randomly divided into four groups. The first group was used as the control. The second group was intraperitoneally administered with vitamin E (±‐α‐tocopheroryl acetate, 10 mg day−1), the third group with Se (Na2SeO3 0·2 mg over a day), and the fourth group with vitamin E and Se (vitamin E 10 mg + Na2SeO3 0·2 mg over a day). This administration was done for 5 weeks. Blood samples were taken from animals at the end of the dosage period and biochemical parameters in serum samples and haematological parameters in total blood were determined. The levels of total cholesterol (p<0·01) and number of white blood cells (p<0·001) in blood were significantly higher in the vitamin E group than in the control group. The levels of ALP, total cholesterol (p<0·01) and number of white blood cells (p<0·01) in blood were significantly higher in the selenium group than in the controls. The levels of glucose (p<0·05), ALP (p<0·01), total cholesterol (p<0·001) and number of white blood cells (p<0·01) were higher in the vitamin E and selenium combined group than in the controls. Other parameters considered within this trial (ALT, LDH, creatinine, albumin, total protein, amylase, creatine kinase, HDL, triglycerides, total lipid, sodium, chloride, uric acids, red blood cell, haemoglobin, packed cell volume, MCV, MCH, MCHC) did not show statistically significant differences between the control and injected groups. The results indicated that blood glucose and total cholesterol levels, ALP activity and white blood cell counts were significantly increased by intraperitoneal administration of vitamin E and selenium in rats. The aim of this investigation was to determine serum levels of vitamin A, E, beta carotene, glutathione peroxidase (GSHPx), lipid peroxidation (MDA) and biochemical and haematological parameters during enflurane anaesthetised dogs. Ten kangal dogs were used and all animals were anaesthetised with enflurane for two hours and blood samples were taken before and 30, 120 minutes, 24 hours and 7 days during the anaesthesia. Vitamin E and beta carotene content were significantly (p<0·05 and p<0·01) higher before anaesthesia than after whereas serum GSHPx activity was not statistically different. However, serum levels of vitamin A and MDA were significantly (p<0·05) increased during the anaesthesia. In general, serum levels of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, albumin, glucose, urea and creatinine were significantly (p<0·05 and p<0·01) increased during anaesthesia and returned to near normal values after 7 days of anaesthesia, whereas the white blood cell count was significantly (p<0·05 and p<0·01) decreased during the anaesthesia. However, the red blood cell count, haemoglobin and packed cell volume values, and levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, total protein and globulin were apparently not influenced by the anaesthesia. In conclusion, we observed that the serum level of vitamin E and beta carotene were significantly decreased, whereas serum MDA and vitamin A levels were significantly increased during the enflurane anaesthesia. Twenty-nine obese female Zucker rats (fa / fa) were fed with a laboratory chow supplemented or not with a selenium-rich yeast (Selenion), or Selenion + vitamin E, or vitamin E alone. Twelve lean female Zucker rats (Fa / Fa) of the same littermates fed with the same diet were used as control. After 32 wk of diet, obesity induced a large increase in plasma insulin and lipid levels. A significant decrease in the plasma vitamin E/triglycerides ratio (p < 0.005) and an increase in plasma thiobarbituric reactive substances (TBARS) (p < 0.005) were also observed. Plasma selenium and vitamin E increased in all supplemented rats. The plasma insulin level was decreased by selenion supplementation and the vitamin E/triglycerides ratio was completely corrected by double supplementation with Selenion + vitamin E. TBARS were also efficiently decreased in two obese groups receiving vitamin E. In plasma, adipose tissue and aorta, obesity induced an increase in palmitic acid (C16:0), a very large increase in monounsaturated fatty acids (palmitoleic acid C16:l, stearic acid C18:l) associated with a decrease in polyunsaturated n-6 fatty acids (linoleic acid C18:2 n - 6, arachidonic C20:4 n - 6). These alterations in fatty acid distribution were only partly modulated by Se and vitamin E supplements. However, in the aorta, antioxidant treatment in obese rats significantly reduced the increase in C16:0 and C16:l (p < 0.05 andp < 0.01, respectively) and the decrease in arachidonic acid (p < 0.05). These changes could be beneficial in the reduction of insulin resistance and help to protect the vascular endothelium.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to determine the protective effects of intraperitoneally administered vitamins C and E and selenium on the lipid peroxidation (MDA), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), reduced glutathione (rGSH) activities in the lens of rats induced diabetic with streptozotocin (STZ). Lenses in the diabetic control group had a slightly higher mean level of MDA compared with lenses of the vitamin E and selenium groups, although the mean levels of MDA were significantly lower in control, combination, and vitamin C groups than in the diabetic control group (p < 0.05 andp < 0.01). However, MDA levels were significantly lower in vitamin C, vitamin E, and combination groups than in controls (p < 0.01). The GSH-Px activities of lenses were significantly higher in vitamin C-, vitamin E- and selenium-injected groups than that in the diabetic control group (p < 0.01), whereas, the activity of GSH-Px was significantly lower in the diabetic control group than in the control group. In addition, the rGSH content was seen to decrease only in the vitamin C group compared to both control and diabetic control groups (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the results from these experiments indicate that vitamins C and E and selenium can protect the lens against oxidative damage, but the effect of vitamin C appears to be much greater than that of vitamin E and selenium.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to determine the protective effects of intraperitoneally administrated vitamin E and Se on total lipid, total cholesterol, and fatty acid composition of rat liver and muscle tissues. Total lipid content of muscle tissue in Se and combination groups decreased as compared to the control group. However, the level of total lipid in the liver tissues was seen to decrease only in the combination group (P < 0.05). While the amount of total cholesterol in liver tissue was lower (P < 0.05) in the vitamin E and combination groups, the amount of total cholesterol in muscle tissue decreased (P < 0.05) in the combination group. The amount of linoleic acid in muscle tissue slightly decreased (P < 0.05), whereas the eicosenoic and eicosatrienoic acid amounts significantly increased (P < 0.01, P < 0.001) in the vitamin E group as compared to the control group. The amounts of most fatty acid decreased (P < 0.05) in the combination group. The proportions of eicosenoic, eicosatrienoic, and total polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) within the total fatty acid were higher (P < 0.05) in vitamin E group, whereas these fatty acids proportions were lower (P < 0.05) in the Se group. Although the proportions of palmitic, linolenic, and total saturated fatty acids were low (P < 0.05), oleic and total unsaturated fatty acid proportions were higher (P < 0.05) in the combination group than in the control group. The amount of palmitic acid and total saturated fatty acid in liver tissue decreased (P < 0.01 and P < 0.05, respectively) in the vitamin E and combination groups. However, the amount of linoleic acid only decreased (P < 0.05) in the combination group. The amount of PUFA was slightly higher (P < 0.05) in vitamin E. The proportions of stearic acid and linoleic acid decreased (P < 0.05) both in the Se and combination groups. However, the proportions of eicosatrienoic, ω 6, and PUFA were slightly higher (P < 0.05) in the vitamin E group, but total saturated fatty acid proportion significantly decreased (P < 0.01) in both the vitamin E and combination groups. In conclusion, the level of total lipid and cholesterol in muscle and liver tissues were reduced by administrating vitamin E and Se together. Additionally, the fatty acid synthesis in the muscle and liver tissues was decreased by this process. However, it was observed that the protective effect of intraperitoneally administrated vitamin E was higher than Se on fatty acid composition in muscle and liver tissues. J. Cell. It is generally accepted that hypertension and other vascular pathologies increase in diabetes mellitus (DM) patients as a result of the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone (RAA) system. In this study, changes in the renin‐angiotensin‐aldosterone (RAA) system level was determined in Streptozotocin (STZ)‐injected rats. A total of 46 female Wistar albino rats (180–220 g body weight) was utilized in these experiments. STZ was given intraperitoneally to induce diabetes in rats. Streptozotocin (60 mg kg−1 body weight) was dissolved in 0·1 m citrate–‐phosphate buffer (pH 4–5). The non‐diabetic rats were injected with sterilized buffer alone to act as a control group. Blood glucose levels were 398±8·2 mg dl−1, 488±11·75 mg dl−1 and 658±29·6 mg dl−1 at days 3, 12 and 30 respectively. The level of plasma renin activity (PRA) was measured as 7·69±1·07 ng ml−1 h−1; 1·82±0·22 ng ml−1 h−1 and 0·67±0·12 ng ml−1 h−1 at days 3, 12 and 30, respectively. These values showed that the PRA levels are decreased with increased time period. Serum angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE, E.C. 3.4.15.1) levels were increased at days 12 and 30 (p<0·05 and p<0·005), whereas serum aldosterone levels were increased at days 3 and 12 (p<0·05). The level of urea and creatinine increased at days 12 and 30 (p<0·05 and p<0·005, respectively) when compared to the control group. The data from these experiments indicate that the PRA level decreased whereas ACE activity level increased in diabetic rats compared with the control. Aldosterone levels increased at the first stage of the experiment, but then decreased by the end of the experiment as a result of changes in renin and ACE levels. The aim of this investigation was to determine levels of liver vitamins A and E and blood biochemical and hematological parameters in the enflurane anesthesia of rats. Fifty adult male Wistar rats were used in this study. All rats were randomly divided into five groups. The first and second groups were used as the control and anesthesia control groups, respectively, and only the placebo was intraperitoneally injected. The third group was intraperitoneally administered with vitamin E (dl/-α-tocopheryl acetate, 100 mg/kg body weight), the fourth group with Se (Na2SeO3 1.5 mg/kg body weight), and the fifth group with vitamin E and Se (dl-α-tocopheryl acetate, 100 mg/kg body weight + Na2SeO3 1.5 mg/kg body weight). This administration was done for three times with overday intervals and the second, third, forth, and fifth group rats were taken to enflurane anesthetise for 2 h. The liver vitamin E level was slightly lower in the anesthesia control group than in control group. However, the liver vitamin E content was significantly (p < 0.05 andp < 0.01) increased in vitamin E, Se, and combination groups, whereas the vitamin A level in liver was not statistically different. In general, plasma levels of alanine aminotransferase, creatin kinase, total bilirubin, urea, red blood cell counts, packet cell volume, and hemoglobulin values were significantly (p < 0.05 andp < 0.001) increased during the anesthesia and returned to near control values after the vitamin E plus selenium injection. However, administration of vitamin E had less effect on the hematological and biochemical parameters compared to that of selenium and their combination with vitamin E. However, the white blood cell count and levels of alkaline phosphatase, aspartate aminotransferase, total cholesterol, triglycerides, total protein, and creatinine were not statistically influenced by the anesthesia. In conclusion, we observed that plasma levels of some enzymes and metabolites were significantly increased in the enflurane anesthesia of rats, whereas the liver vitamin E levels were slightly decreased. Therefore, we observed that vitamin E and selenium have a protective effect against anesthesia complication, but the effect of selenium appears to be much greater than the vitamin E.  相似文献

We aimed to investigate the influence of dietary vitamin E and diludine on growth and lipid peroxidation (malondialdehyde; MDA) in rainbow trout. Fish (1.5 g) were fed different dietary levels of vitamin E (0, 50 and 100 mg/kg) and diludine (0, 0.5 and 1 g/kg) for 10 weeks. Growth performance and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were significantly affected by dietary vitamin E (p < .05) but not diludine. Fish fed 50 mg/kg dietary vitamin E with no diludine had significantly better growth and lower FCR than those fed vitamin E free diets. Liver vitamin E content was significantly influenced by dietary vitamin E and diludine (p < .05). The highest hepatic vitamin E was in fish fed the highest dietary vitamin E and diludine levels. Hepatic MDA level was significantly affected by dietary vitamin E and diludine (p < .05), decreasing with the increase in both dietary vitamin E and diludine. According to our results, diludine had no significant effect on growth; however, decreased hepatic lipid peroxidation independent of vitamin E. Our results reveal that 50 mg/kg vitamin E content is suitable for optimal growth and FCR in rainbow trout juveniles. However, dose dependent effects of dietary diludine remain uncertain and need further researches.  相似文献

The purposes of the present study were to elucidate the influences of the deficiency of teeth on masticatory muscles, such as the masseter, temporalis and digastric muscles and compare the influence among masticatory muscles. We analysed the expressions of myosin heavy chain (MyHC) isoform messenger RNA (mRNA) and protein in these muscles in the microphthalmic (mi/mi) mouse, whose teeth cannot erupt because of a mutation in the mitf gene locus. The expression levels of MyHC mRNA and protein in the masseter, temporalis, digastric, tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius muscles of +/+ and mi/mi mice were analysed with real‐time polymerase chain reaction and sodium dodecyl sulfate‐polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, respectively. The mi/mi masseter muscle at 8 weeks of age expressed 4·1‐fold (p < 0·05) and 3.3‐fold (p < 0·01) more MyHC neonatal mRNA and protein than that in the +/+, respectively; the expression level of MyHC neonatal protein was 19% of the total MyHC protein in the masseter muscle of mi/mi mice. In the digastric muscle, the expression levels of MyHC I mRNA and protein in the mi/mi mice were 4·7‐fold (p < 0·05) and 5‐fold (p < 0·01) higher than those in the +/+ mice. In the temporalis, tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius muscles, there was no significant difference in the expression levels of any MyHC isoform mRNA and protein between +/+ and mi/mi mice. These results indicate associations between the lack of teeth and the expression of MyHC in the masseter and digastric muscles but not such associations in the temporalis muscle, suggesting that the influence of tooth deficiency varies among the masticatory muscles. The aim of this work was to determine the protective effects of intraperitoneally administered vitamin E and selenium (as Na2SeO3, Se) on the lipid peroxidation as thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and vitamin E levels, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), reduced glutathione (GSH) activities in the plasma, red blood cell (RBC), liver, and muscle of rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes. Fifty adult male Wistar rats were used and all rats were randomly divided into five groups. The first group was used as a control and the second group as a diabetic control. A placebo was given to first and second groups by injection. The third group was intraperitoneally administered with vitamin E (20 mg over 24 h), the fourth group with Se (0.3 mg over 24 h), and the fifth group with vitamin E and Se combination (COM) (20 mg vitamin E + 0.3 mg Se over 24 h). This administration was done for 25 days and the TBARS, vitamin E, GSH-Px, GSH levels in the plasma, RBC, liver, and muscle samples were determined. The vitamin E level in the plasma and liver was significantly (p < 0.05) higher in the control than in the diabetic control group. Also, the TBARS levels in the RBC, liver, and muscle were significantly (p < 0.05) lower in the control than in the diabetic control group. However, GSH-Px and GSH activities in RBC, liver, and muscle were not statistically different between the control and the diabetic control groups. The vitamin E levels in plasma and liver (p < 0.01 and p < 0.001) and GSH-Px activities (p < 0.01, p < 0.001) in RBC were significantly higher in vitamin E, Se, and COM groups than in both control and diabetic control groups. However, the TBARS levels of RBC, muscle, and liver in vitamin E and Se administered groups were significantly (p < 0.05-p < 0.001, respectively) decreased. These results indicate that intraperitoneally administered vitamin E and Se have significant protective effects on the blood, liver, and muscle against oxidative damage of diabetes. This study was conducted to determine the effects of vitamin E and selenium (Se) on lipid peroxidation (MDA), serum and liver concentration of antioxidant vitamins, and some minerals of Japanese quails reared under heat stress (34°C). One hundred twenty 10-d-old Japanese qualis (60 males, 60 females) were randomly assigned to 4 treatment groups, 3 replicates of 10 birds each. The experiment was designed in a 2×2 factorial arrangement using two levels of vitamin E (125 and 250 mg/kg of diet) and two levels of selenium (0.1 and 0.2 mg/kg of diet). Greater dietary vitamin E and selenium inclusions resulted in a greater (p=0.001) serum vitamin E and vitamin A, but lower (p=0.001) MDA concentrations. Liver vitamin E and vitamin A concentrations increased (p=0.001) and MDA concentrations decreased (p=0.001) when both dietary vitamin E and selenium increased. No interactions between vitamin E and selenium were detected (p≥0.11) for any parameters. Increasing both dietary vitamin E and selenium caused an increase in serum concentrations of Fe and Zn (p=0.001), but a decrease in serum concentration of Cu (p=0.001). Results of the present study showed that dietary vitamin E and selenium have synergistic effects and that supplementing a combination of dietary vitamin E (250 mg/kg of diet) and selenium (0.2 mg/kg of diet) offers a good management practice to reduce heat stress-related depression in performance of Japanese quails.  相似文献

Abstract

The fatty acid composition, moisture, and total lipid of the eggs from the swimming crab, Portunus pelagicus, at three different embryonic stages (within 24 h, during the eye placode stage and the final heart beat stage), were measured. Results showed that the moisture and lipid content significantly increased and decreased (p < 0.05), respectively, as the stages progressed. The most prevalent fatty acids that were initially deposited included C16:0, C18:1n-9, and C18:0, while the most consumed fatty acids were C22:5n-6, C22:5n-3, and C20:1n-7. Among the major fatty acid groups, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and long-chain PUFA (LC-PUFA) were consumed more than saturated fatty acids and significantly more (p < 0.05) than monounsaturated fatty acids (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, n-3 PUFA was deposited in significantly higher amounts (p < 0.05) than n-6 PUFA, but both were consumed at similar amounts at 43.4% and 41.3%, respectively. The relatively low amount of C20:5n-3 and C22:6n-3 consumption may indicate these fatty acids were conserved, while the essential fatty acids C18:3n-3 and C18:3n-6 were consumed at high amounts. These findings may have implications for broodstock nutrition in order to formulate a well-balanced diet.  相似文献

One hundred and four rabbits, five weeks old at the beginning of the experiment, were divided into four groups according to a feed additive treatment. Rabbits of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th group were fed a basal granulated feed (control), basal feed supplemented with CuSO4 · 5H2O at 50mg Cu · kg‐1, basal feed supplemented with 150mg Cu · kg‐1, and the latter feed supplemented with 100mg · kg‐1 vitamin E, respectively. The duration of the experiment was 42 days. Addition of Cu at 150mg · kg.‐1 increased weight gain non‐significantly by 9.1%. This effect was the most pronounced in the first two weeks of fattening. The lowest mortality was observed in rabbits fed the highest amount of additives (7.7% vs. 19.2% in the control). Rabbits were slaughtered at the age of 11 weeks. Neither treatment influenced proportions of saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids in lipids extracted from the loin and hindleg muscles. In rabbits fed the highest amount of copper and vitamin E, the cholesterol concentration was significantly decreased by 13.6% and 17.9% in the loin and hindleg meat, respectively. Effects of Cu added at 50mg · kg‐1 were marginal. Copper had no effect on the oxidative stability of meat, measured as thiobarbituric acid‐reactive substances in meat stored at 4°C for 0, 3 and 8 days. Vitamin E added in excess of nutritional requirement improved the oxidative stability of meat. In copper‐fed rabbits, Cu accumulated in the liver, but not in muscles. Feeding of the basal feed for 7 days to rabbits previously fed copper sulphate decreased the hepatic Cu concentration by 14.0 to 24.4%  相似文献

Ulcerative colitis increases oxidative damage accompanied by production of free oxygen radicals. Selenium (Se) and vitamin E are two natural antioxidants. The present study was undertaken to investigate the possible protective role of Se and vitamin E combination in experimental colitis induced by acetic acid (AA) in rats. This study was carried out on three groups, namely the first (control), the second (experimental colitis group, 2 ml 5% acetic acid), and the third groups (2 ml 5% acetic acid, vitamin E (100 mg/kg body weight (bw)) plus Se (0.2 mg/kg bw)). The activities of catalase (CAT), prolidase (PRS), myeloperoxidase (MPO), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), total oxidant status (TOS), oxidative stress index (OSI), total thiol (T-SH) were determined in plasma and colon samples. Macroscopic and microscopic damages in colon were increased by AA treatment (p < 0.01 and p < 0.01, respectively), whereas they were decreased by selenium and vitamin E treatment (p < 0.05 and p < 0.01, respectively). The activities of CAT and PRS in the plasma and colon were significantly affected (p < 0.05 and p < 0.01) by treatment of AA, Se, and vitamin E. MPO activity in colon was increased (p < 0.01) by AA treatment and decreased (p < 0.05) by Se and vitamin E administration. The values of TOS and OSI in plasma were increased (p < 0.5) by AA. The TAC and T-SH in colon were decreased (p < 0.05) by AA and increased (p < 0.05) by Se and vitamin E. Based upon these results, Se and vitamin E may play an important role in preventive indication of the oxidative damage associated by acetic acid caused inflammation.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The present study aimed to investigate the effects of shift work on sleep among pilots and Helicopter Emergency Medical Service crew members (HCM) in the Norwegian Air Ambulance. Sleep was assessed by diaries and actigraphy during a workweek (24 h duty for 7 consecutive days) in the winter season and a workweek during the summer season in pilots and HCM (N = 50). Additionally, differences in sleep were studied between the week before work, the workweek, and the week after work in both seasons. Results indicated that bedtime was later (p <.001) and time spent in bed (p <.05) was shorter during the summer, compared to the winter, season. The workers delayed the sleep period in the workweek, compared to the week before (winter: p <.001, summer: p <.001) and the week after (winter: p <.05-.001, summer: p <.001). They spent more time in bed during the workweek, compared to the week before (winter: p <.001, summer: p <.01) and after (winter: p <.001, summer: p =.37). Further, the workers had longer wake after sleep onset during the workweek, compared to the week before (winter: p <.001, summer: p <.01) and the week after (winter: p <.01, summer: p <.01). Finally, the workers had lower sleep efficiency during the workweek recorded by actigraphy compared to the week before (winter: p <.01, summer: p <.001) and the week after (winter: p <.01, summer: p <.001). According to the sleep diaries the total sleep time was 7:17 h in the winter and 7:03 h in the summer season. Overall, the sleep was somewhat affected during the workweek, with delayed sleep period, longer wake after sleep onset, and lower sleep efficiency compared to when off work. However, the workers spent more time in bed during the workweek compared to the weeks off, and they obtained over 7 h of sleep in both workweeks. Our findings suggest that the pilots and the HCM sleep well during the workweek, although it affected their sleep to some extent.  相似文献

The present study was carried to evaluate the protective effects of melatonin alone and vitamin E with selenium combination against high dose cadmium-induced oxidative stress in rats. The control group received subcutanous physiological saline. The first study group administered cadmium chloride (CdCl2) by subcutaneous injection of dose of 1 mg/kg. The second study group administered cadmium plus vitamin E with selenium (1 mg/kg sodium selenite with 60 mg/kg vitamin E); the third study group administered cadmium plus 10 mg/kg melatonin (MLT); the fourth study group administered CdCl2 plus a combination of melatonin in addition to vitamin E and selenium for a month. Determination levels of plasma malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), blood superoxide dismutase (SOD), creatinine alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and urea were measured in serum. In only CdCl2 administered group, the MDA, creatinine, ALT, AST, ALP, and urea levels in the serum were significantly higher than the control group (p < 0.05). Whereas in all other groups, this values were significantly lower than the only CdCl2 administered group (p < 0.05). Erythrocytes GSH-Px, serum SOD activities of only CdCl2 received group were significantly lower than the control group (p < 0.05). In conclusion, vitamin E + Se, melatonin and vitamin E, and Se, in addition to MLT combinations, had protective effects against high dose cadmium-induced oxidative damage.  相似文献

A 10 week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of different dietary soybean oil (SO) levels on growth performance, fatty‐acid composition and lipid deposition in viscera, histology and histochemistry of liver, intestine and hepatic‐lipid metabolism‐related gene expressions in pond loach Misgurnus anguillicaudatus juveniles. Misgurnus anguillicaudatus (mean ± s.d. mass 0·40 ± 0·01 g) were fed five experimental diets containing SO at different concentrations: 0, 20, 32, 56 and 100% SO and a diet containing 100% fish oil (100% FO). The mass gains and specific growth rates of M. anguillicaudatus fed 20% SO and 100% FO diets were significantly higher than those of the other groups (P < 0·05). The lipid content of viscera and the amount of cytoplasmic vacuolation in the liver increased with incremental dietary SO level. Meanwhile, increasing dietary SO levels up‐regulated the messenger (m)RNA levels of lipogenic genes (such as Δ6fad, scd, pparγ, fas and srebp‐1) and down‐regulated the mRNA levels of the lipolytic genes (such as pparα, cpt1, atgl and hsl) in the liver. The percentage of 20:4n‐6 significantly (P < 0·05) increased with increasing dietary SO level, which might be correlated with the up‐regulation of the mRNA level of Δ6fad. The highest levels of dietary SO, however, had a negative effect on growth performance, lipid deposition of viscera and histology and histochemstry of liver and intestine. The increased lipid accumulation induced by incremental dietary SO level probably occurred through different strategies for lipid metabolism as a result of competition between lipolysis and lipogenesis and between export and import of lipids in this species.  相似文献

African elephants (Loxodonta Africana) are currently considered a vulnerable species. One key to improving methods of species management is to better monitor and understand elephant nutrition. Analyzing circulating nutrients is one of the best and least invasive methods of monitoring managed elephant nutrition, but limited reference values are available. This study examined the circulating basic hematology concentrations, minerals, vitamins A, D, and E, and fatty acids of six African elephants (two males and four females) at the North Carolina Zoo collected monthly from March 2016 to April 2017 and compared levels among seasons. Creatinine (CRE) and albumin had seasonal differences (p ≤ .05). Calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, zinc, cobalt, manganese, and molybdenum displayed seasonal differences (p ≤ .05). Retinol and 25-hydroxyvitamin D2 had seasonal differences (p ≤ .05). Linoleic acid, α-linolenic acid, arachidonic acid, total omega-3 fatty acids, total omega-6 fatty acids, and the omega-6 to omega-3 ratio showed seasonal differences (p ≤ .05). Findings suggest that exogenous vitamin E supplements may not be necessary with a mixed feedstuff diet (hay, fortified concentrate pellet, browse, and produce) based on circulating values. This data offer updated information on circulating reference values and novel circulating concentrations of nutrients for Southeastern US managed African elephants that can be used to inform nutritional and health management in all similar habitats.  相似文献

The effects of vitamin E (dl-α-tocopheryl acetate) and selenium (Se; Na2-SeO3) on egg production, egg quality, and mineral content of egg yolk in Japanese quails reared under a low ambient temperature (6°C) were evaluated. Birds (n=300; 7 wk old) were randomly assigned to 12 treatment groups, 25 birds per group. The birds in a 3×2 factorial design received either three levels of vitamin E (125, 250, and 500 mg/kg diet) or two levels of selenium (0.1 or 0.2 mg/kg diet). After 2 wk on feed, six groups of the birds were maintained at 18°C (thermoneutral temperature [TN]), and the other half were acclimated over 3 d to a decreased environmental temperature of 6°C (cold stress [CS]). The performance, egg quality, and mineral content of egg yolk were not influenced by supplemental vitamin E and selenium in quails not exposed to cold stress (p≥0.09). Two hundred fifty and 500 mg vitamin E/kg diet compared with 125 mg/kg diet and higher dietary selenium inclusions (0.2 vs 0.1 mg/kg) resulted in a better body weight, egg production, and feed efficiency (p=0.01) in quails reared under CS. Similarly, egg weight, egg specific gravity, eggshell thickness, and Haugh unit were positively influenced with vitamin E (p=0.01) and selenium (p≤0.05) supplementation. Egg yolk concentrations of Zn, Fe, and Mn were higher with higher dietary vitamin E (p=0.01) and selenium (p=0.05). There was no interaction detected for parameters measured in the present study (p≥0.3). The results of the present study showed that a combination of 250 or 500 mg vitamin E and 0.2 mg selenium per kilogram of diet provides the greatest effects on performance and egg quality of Japanese quails reared under cold stress and suggest that such a supplementation can be considered as a protective management practice in Japanese quail diets to reduce the detrimental effects of cold stress.  相似文献
