Three historical ethnic minorities are present in Calabria: Albanians, Greeks, and Occitans. The Albanian ethnic minority is the more populous, having settled in Calabria between the 15th and 17th centuries, and these populations are now located in the provinces of Cosenza and Catanzaro. In the present study the Albanian population structure is analyzed based on the allele frequencies of six classic genetic markers: ACP, GC, PGM1, AK, ADA, and 6PGD. The results show a significant heterogeneity between the Albanian population in Calabria and the population in Molise. Therefore the cultural and reproductive isolation of the Albanian ethnic minority of Calabria is related to a great genetic peculiarity. Moreover, the frequencies of some alleles, particularly those of the PGM*1W31 variant, and the analysis of the R matrix still show the actual peculiar genetic structure of the Albanians of Calabria, although the genetic flow is evident in the decrease of endogamy and in the increase in the degree of mixing.  相似文献

Allele frequencies of the phosphoglucomutase-1 (PGM1), in the Albanian ethnic minority of province of Cosenza (Calabria-Southern Italy) were compared with the corresponding data from neighbouring non-Albanian sample groups. The isoelectrofocusing evaluation in the two populations revealed the presence of a new variant PGM1*W31 in Albanian sample group. Furthermore, a significant heterogeneity was observed between Albanian allele frequencies and those of the surrounding groups.  相似文献

The genetic structure of the population of Ferrara Province in the Po delta in Italy was investigated using chi 2 analysis, kinship analysis, analysis of correspondences, and geographical mapping of principal components of gene frequencies. chi 2 Analysis tests for Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium and for heterogeneity of gene and phenotype frequencies; kinship analysis tests for association between indicators of genetic and geographic proximity; analysis of correspondences relates localities and genetic systems in an eigenvectorial space; and geographic mapping displays the principal components of gene frequencies in the real space. In 1,364 adults in 26 residential units, seven presumably neutral isoenzyme systems were typed; ACP1 ESD, GLO I, GPT, PGD, PGM1 and PGP. It was found that average kinship for these neutral systems is correlated with geographic distance in this small area, but not as strongly as kinship for beta-thalassemia. A north-south gradient was observed for ESD. Analysis of correspondences indicated GPT, PGM1, and GLO I as the systems contributing most to differentiation within the province. The maps obtained from principal components of gene frequencies were consistent with the migrational history of the area.  相似文献

The study continues the series of works on the Russian gene pool. Gene geographic analysis of five erythrocytic gene markers best studied in the Russian population (ACP1, PGM1, ESD, GLO1, and 6-PGD) has been performed. Gene-geographic electronic maps have been constructed for 13 alleles of these loci and their correlations with geographic latitude and longitude. For all maps, statistical characteristics are presented, including the variation range and mean gene frequencies, partial and multiple correlations with latitude and longitude, and parameters of heterozygosity and interpopulation diversity. The maps of eight alleles (ACP1*A, ACP1*C, PGM1*2+, PGM1*2-, PGM1*1-, ESD*1, GLO1*1, and PGD*C) are shown and analyzed in detail. The genetic relief and structural elements of the maps are compared with the ecumenical trends, main variation patterns of these genes in northern Eurasia, and genetic characteristics of the indigenous populations of the Urals and Europe.  相似文献

Leukocyte lysates obtained from blood specimens of individuals from Central and Western Pyrenean groups (Barèges and Basques) and from the population of Toulouse city have been typed for PGMa1 isozymes using isoelectric focusing (pH range: 3-9.5) in polyacrylamide gels. The determination of usual PGM1 phenotypes was simultaneously performed on red cells by starch gel electrophoresis. Significant differences were found between the three communities. In Barèges samples only 6 of the 10 phenotypes known at PGMa1 locus have been observed. In the same group, 36 mating types were studied in distinct families. The segregation of the phenotypes in an agreement with the codominant inheritance of the alleles. In Basques the gene frequencies showed intermediate values between Toulouse and Barèges. PGMa2 reaches a higher frequency in the latter community (0.306). In the Toulouse population sample the results are comparable with those previously published in western Europeans. The present data provide additional information on the usefulness of the new PGM system detected by isoelectrofocusing in human genetics.  相似文献

Seven erythrocyte enzyme polymorphisms (ACP1, ADA, ESD, GLO1, PGD, PGM1 and PGM2) were investigated in a sample of 673 unrelated adult individuals from Friuli Venezia Giulia (or Friuli) and Istria. The gene frequencies found in the four provincial samples of Friuli and Istria fall within the range previously reported for Italy, showing a genetic homogeneity among the considered samples. However, comparisons with data from ex-Yugoslavian samples--using the chi 2 test--showed rather marked differences, probably due to a real different genetic structure of the compared samples. A significant association was found assuming a linear relation between the ADA*2 allele frequencies and longitude (r = +0.5503) and between the PGD*C frequencies and latitude (r = -0.6483), suggesting the existence of a clinal trend for these allele frequencies in Italy. These results seem to disagree with foregoing conclusions stated by other authors, probably because these studies were carried out in an area either rather narrow from the geographical point of view or affected by small size migration movements.  相似文献

The geographical distribution of the gene frequencies from loci: Hp, Tf, Gc, Pi, AcP1, GLO1, EsD, 6-PGD, PGM1 and RFLP's of the nuclear DNA of the loci HBG-2 (HindIII), HBB (AvaII), ApoB (XbaI), D7S8 (PstI), LDLR (HincII) and AT-3 was analysed in the Mongolian population. These data revealed the homogeneity of 18 local groups in Mongolia and extremely low genetic differences measured by GST. There was no differences in the average GST values between protein markers and nuclear DNA markers.  相似文献

Genetic structure of the population of Sicily.   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Genetic heterogeneity within Sicily was investigated on the basis of ACP1, ADA, ESD, GLO1, PGD, PGM1, PGM2, SODA, ABO, and MN gene frequencies, and compared to those of other regions of Italy for which these same loci have been examined. Correspondence analysis revealed no differences within the island, at least at the provincial level, but showed genetic differentiation among Italian regions, distinctly clustering northern, central, and southern populations, respectively. These data indicate a close relationship between Sicily and southern Italy. In addition, the contribution of Middle Eastern populations to the gene pool of Sicily was evident.  相似文献

In this study, the phenotype and allele frequencies of five enzyme systems were determined in a total of 611 unrelated Turkish individuals and analyzed by using the exact and the chi 2 test. The following five red cell enzymes were identified by cellulose acetate electrophoresis: phosphoglucomutase (PGM), adenosine deaminase (ADA), phosphoglucose isomerase (PGI), adenylate kinase (AK), and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6-PGD). The ADA, PGM and AK enzymes were found to be polymorphic in the Turkish population. The results of the statistical analysis showed, that the phenotype frequencies of the five enzyme under study are in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. Statistical analysis was performed in order to examine whether there are significant differences in the phenotype frequencies between the Turkish population and four American population groups. This analysis showed, that there are some statistically significant differences between the Turkish and the other groups. Moreover, the observed phenotype and allele frequencies were compared with those obtained in other population groups of Turkey.  相似文献

Three samples of surnames reported in the telephone directory of Cosenza province, Italy, are used, singly and together, to detect the presence of genetic barriers and to analyze the genetic relationship between the Italian and the Italo-Albanian communities living in this area. The genetic structure of the population seems characterized by the distinction between the northern and southern regions of the province. The Sibari plain, endemic with malaria until recently, probably constituted a genetic barrier. In the southern region of the province, the valley along the Crati river (also occupied by malarial fenlands), constituted a genetic barrier between the northern Sila upland and the western coast. Surname similarities between Italians and Italo-Albanians could be the result of gene flow and/or an initial choice of similar surnames; the second possibility accords with the persistence of the Albanian cultural identity and the level of endogamy in Albanian communities. In fact, the coefficient of relationship by isonomy (Ri), which is significantly higher in Italo-Albanians than in Italians, may be the result of genetic isolation and endogamy.  相似文献

The genetic structure of two African-Ecuadorian communities, Rio Cayapas and Viche (Esmeraldas province, northwest Ecuador), was studied on the basis of ACP1, ADA, AK1, CA2, ESD, GLO1, G6PD, PGD, and PGM1 subtypes and thermostability, PGM2, HBβ, F13A, F13B, ORM1, AHSG, C6, C7, and APOC2 gene frequency, and migration data on 255 individuals. The fixation index of Wright (FST), correspondence, and genetic distance analysis were applied to compare the genetic relationships between these communities and other American populations of African ancestry. FST values from the migration data and surname origins suggest that Rio Cayapas is genetically more isolated and shows less mobility and admixture than does Viche. The genetic admixture estimates indicate a large contribution of African genes to the gene pool of both communities (74.3% to 58.4%), whereas the proportion of the Amerindian component differs significantly (14.5% in Rio Cayapas to 27.6% in Viche). The genetic structures of the population residing in the provinces of Venice and Rovigo in the Veneto region at the north of the Po delta in Italy was studied in 1,210 individuals residing in 18 sampling areas, using the phenotype and gene frequencies of 7 red cell enzymes: acid phosphatase (ACP1), esterase D (ESD), glyoxalase I (GLOI), glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (GPT), 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6-PGD), phosphoglucomutase 1 (PGM1), and phosphoglycollate phosphatase (PGP). For the analysis of the distributions of phenotype and gene frequencies, standardized variance and kinship profiles were used. It was found that the genetic differentiation within each province is low, and that only two systems, GPT and PGP, are significantly different between the two provinces. The samples studied seem to belong to a mainly homogeneous population.  相似文献

Distribution of the subtypes and gene frequencies of phosphoglucomutase-1 among some populations of Buryats, Kirghizes of the Pamir and Russians of Moscow district was analysed. The frequencies of PGM1 genes vary in Buryats being PGM1+(1) 0.647-0.743, PGM1-(1)-0.100-0.132, PGM2+(1)-0.122-0.199 and PGM2-(1)-0.007-0.037. Following frequencies of PGM1 genes were established for Kirghizes: PGM1+(1) = 0.614, PGM1-(1) = 0.114, PGM2+(1) = 0.217 and PGM2-(1) = 0.054; in Russian populations the frequencies were: PGM1+(1) = 0.578, PGM1-(1) = 0.110, PGM2+(1) = 0.253 and PGM2-(1) = 0.059. Peculiarities of PGM1 polymorphism in the USSR and all over the world were analysed. Parallel biodemographic investigations in Buryat population demonstrated differences in intensities of selection, related to concrete PGM genotypes.  相似文献

For the study of group specific component (Gc) and phosphoglucomutase (PGM1) polymorphism, isoelectric focusing was performed on eleven tribal and non-tribal populations of Himachal Pradesh, India. They were chosen to illustrate interregional and intraregional variations. The subtype frequencies of these two systems showed clear differences in the genetic constitution of these populations of Himachal at both levels. There is a large increase in the mean heterozygosity (H) for each system by isoelectric focusing over that shown by electrophoresis. Discriminant and distance analyses both suggest that the subtype frequencies provide greater potential for the study of genetic diversity among populations. The data on these additional alleles found by isoelectric focusing are examined for some of their genetic and anthropological implications.  相似文献

In a previous study, Kaestle and Smith [Am J Phys Anthropol 115 (2001) 1-12] supported a recent (A.D. 1000) Numic expansion into the Great Basin region based on a molecular and statistical analysis of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) of ancient and modern native inhabitants of the region. Their statistical methodology could not rule out the possibility that observed differences in haplogroup frequencies are instead the result of long-term microevolutionary change within a single population. To distinguish more effectively between a Numic expansion versus population continuity, we employed a novel computer simulation approach that incorporates microevolutionary factors likely to affect human population genetic variation. We test whether the observed differences in haplogroup frequencies between ancient and modern Great Basin groups could have been produced solely via in situ microevolutionary change. Our results indicate that for reasonable demographic conditions, the observed genetic differences between the observed samples are consistent with population continuity if gene flow among prehistoric Great Basin local groups was less than 1% of local group size per generation. Our analysis also supports a recent population expansion if gene flow between neighboring groups exceeded 8% of local group size per generation. The simulations demonstrate that relatively low gene flow levels and random genetic drift can produce the observed degree of genetic differences between population samples. Although this study focuses on the Numic expansion, this simulation approach can be applied to any geographic region for which genetic data have been collected to address similar questions of population relationships over time.  相似文献

Genetic polymorphisms of six blood groups and seven biochemical genetic markers were investigated in six Iranian populations (Turks, Kurds, Lurs, Zabolis, Baluchis and Zoroastrians). Eight of the genetic systems (ABO, MNSs, Kidd, C3, AP, AK, PGM1 and EsD) showed conclusive heterogeneity among these populations. Comparison of gene frequencies with the few available samples of Iranian populations demonstrated an intra-ethnic and extensive overall genetic diversity in the Iranian plateau. A gradient of C3*F gene was also discernible within the geographical region of Iran which may reflect the relics of the historical movements of different racial groups in this region. The present genetic variation may reflect the differences in the structure of these populations, the analysis of which is further attempted in the accompanying paper.  相似文献

Eleven Southern African populations (representing European, Asian and Negroid populations) have been typed for the first locus phosphoglucomutase (PGM1) using isoelectric focusing (pH range 5.0-8.0) in acrylamide gels. The gene frequencies of the four common alleles at this locus in these populations were compared to those found previously in European and Negroid populations. Marked differences in gene frequencies were observed: Negroes have a lower PGM1(2-) compared with Caucasoids due to a lower PGM1(2-) frequency, Indians a relatively high PGM1(2) due to a higher frequency of the PGM1(2+) allele. The Afrikaans and Ashkenazim do not differ appreciably from their European counterparts. The appearances of the rarer PGM1(6) and PGM1(7) alleles on isoelectric focusing are described and some kinetic properties examined. The PGM2(2-1), or 'Atkinson' phenotype, can also be detected with this technique.  相似文献
