Sb2Se3, a V2‐VI3 compound semiconductor, has attracted extensive research attention in photovoltaics due to its non‐toxicity, low cost and earth‐abundant constituents. Herein, a combinatorial approach to optimize the performance of TiO2/Sb2Se3 thin film photovoltaics is employed. By simultaneously conducting a series of experiments in parallel rather than one after another, combinatorial strategy increases experimental throughput and reduces personnel costs. Key parameters such as TiO2 thickness, post‐annealing temperature and Sb2Se3 thickness are identified as 65 nm, 450 °C and 850 nm through the combinatorial approach. Finally, in combination with (NH4)2S back surface cleaning, TiO2/Sb2Se3 solar cells with 5.6% efficiency and decent stability are obtained, showcasing the power of high‐throughput strategy for accelerating the optimization of Sb2Se3 photovoltaics.  相似文献

Ternary strategies show over 16% efficiencies with increased current/voltage owing to complementary absorption/aligned energy level contributions. However, poor understanding of how the guest components tune the active layer structures still makes rational selection of material systems challenging. In this study, two phthalimide based ultrawide bandgap polymer donor guests are synthesized. Parallel energies between the highest occupied molecular orbitals of host and guest polymers are achieved via incorporating selnophene on the guest polymer. Solid‐state 19F magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic spectroscopy, graze‐incidence wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, elemental transmission electron microscopy mapping, and transient absorption spectroscopy are combined to characterize the active layer structures. Formation of the individual guest phases selectively improves the structural order of donor and acceptor phase. The increased electron mobility in combination with the presence of the additional paths made by the guest not only minimizes the influence on charge generation and transport of the host system but also contributes to increasing the overall current generation. Therefore, phthalimide based polymers can be potential candidates that enable the simultaneous increase of open‐circuit voltage and short‐circuit current‐density via fine‐tuning energy levels and the formation of additional paths for enhancing current generation in parallel‐like multicomponent organic solar cells.  相似文献

Microfluidic technologies are highly adept at generating controllable compositional gradients in fluids, a feature that has accelerated the understanding of the importance of chemical gradients in biological processes. That said, the development of versatile methods to generate controllable compositional gradients in the solid‐state has been far more elusive. The ability to produce such gradients would provide access to extensive compositional libraries, thus enabling the high‐throughput exploration of the parametric landscape of functional solids and devices in a resource‐, time‐, and cost‐efficient manner. Herein, the synergic integration of microfluidic technologies is reported with blade coating to enable the controlled formation of compositional lateral gradients in solution. Subsequently, the transformation of liquid‐based compositional gradients into solid‐state thin films using this method is demonstrated. To demonstrate efficacy of the approach, microfluidic‐assisted blade coating is used to optimize blending ratios in organic solar cells. Importantly, this novel technology can be easily extended to other solution processable systems that require the formation of solid‐state compositional lateral gradients.  相似文献

Organic solar cells are promising in terms of full‐solution‐processing which enables low‐cost and large‐scale fabrication. While single‐junction solar cells have seen a boost in power conversion efficiency (PCE), multi‐junction solar cells are promising to further enhance the PCE. In all‐solution‐processed multi‐junction solar cells, interfacial losses are often encountered between hole‐transporting layer (HTL) and the active layers and therefore greatly limit the application of newly developed high‐performance donor and acceptor materials in multi‐junction solar cells. Here, the authors report on a systematic study of interface losses in both single‐junction and multi‐junction solar cells based on representative polymer donors and HTLs using electron spectroscopy and time‐of‐flight secondary ion mass spectrometry. It is found that a facile mixed HTL containing poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) and MoO x nanoparticles successfully overcomes the interfacial losses in both single‐ and multi‐junction solar cells based on various active layers by reducing interface protonation, promoting better energy‐level alignment, and forming a dense and smooth layer. Solution‐processed single‐junction solar cells are demonstrated to reach the same performance as with evaporated MoO x (over 7%). Multi‐junction solar cells with polymers containing nitrogen atoms as the first layer and the mixed PEDOT:PSS and MoO x nanoparticles as hole extraction layer reach fill factor (FF) of over 60%, and PCE of over 8%, while the identical stack with pristine PEDOT:PSS or MoO x nanoparticles show FF smaller than 50% and PCE less than 5%.  相似文献

Multijunction solar cells are designed to improve the overlap with the solar spectrum and to minimize losses due to thermalization. Aside from the optimum choice of photoactive materials for the respective sub‐cells, a proper interconnect is essential. This study demonstrates a novel all‐oxide interconnect based on the interface of the high‐work‐function (WF) metal oxide MoOx and low‐WF tin oxide (SnOx). In contrast to typical p‐/n‐type tunnel junctions, both the oxides are n‐type semiconductors with a WF of 5.2 and 4.2 eV, respectively. It is demonstrated that the electronic line‐up at the interface of MoOx and SnOx comprises a large intrinsic interface dipole (≈0.8 eV), which is key to afford ideal alignment of the conduction band of MoOx and SnOx, without the requirement of an additional metal or organic dipole layer. The presented MoOx/SnOx interconnect allows for the ideal (loss‐free) addition of the open circuit voltages of the two sub‐cells.  相似文献

Tandem structure provides a practical way to realize high efficiency organic photovoltaic cells, it can be used to extend the wavelength coverage for light harvesting. The interconnecting layer (ICL) between subcells plays a critical role in the reproducibility and performance of tandem solar cells, yet the processability of the ICL has been a challenge. In this work the fabrication of highly reproducible and efficient tandem solar cells by employing a commercially available material, PEDOT:PSS HTL Solar (HSolar), as the hole transporting material used for the ICL is reported. Comparing with the conventional PEDOT:PSS Al 4083 (c‐PEDOT), HSolar offers a better wettability on the underlying nonfullerene photoactive layers, resulting in better charge extraction properties of the ICL. When FTAZ:IT‐M and PTB7‐Th:IEICO‐4F are used as the subcells, a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 14.7% is achieved in the tandem solar cell. To validate the processability of these tandem solar cells, three other research groups have successfully fabricated tandem devices using the same recipe and the highest PCE obtained is 16.1%. With further development of donor polymers and device optimization, the device simulation results show that a PCE > 22% can be realized in tandem cells in the near future.  相似文献

Ternary organic solar cells (OSCs) have progressed significantly in recent years due to the sufficient photon harvesting of the blend photoactive layer including three absorption‐complementary materials. With the rapid development of highly efficient ternary OSCs in photovoltaics, the precise energy‐level alignment of the three active components within ternary OSC devices should be taken into account. The machine‐learning technique is a computational method that can effectively learn from previous historical data to build predictive models. In this study, a dataset of 124 fullerene derivatives‐based ternary OSCs is manually constructed from a diverse range of literature along with their frontier molecular orbital theory levels, and device structures. Different machine‐learning algorithms are trained based on these electronic parameters to predict photovoltaic efficiency. Thus, the best predictive capability is provided by using the Random Forest approach beyond other machine‐learning algorithms in the dataset. Furthermore, the Random Forest algorithm yields valuable insights into the crucial role of lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy levels of organic donors in the performance of ternary OSCs. The outcome of this study demonstrates a smart strategy for extracting underlying complex correlations in fullerene derivatives‐based ternary OSCs, thereby accelerating the development of ternary OSCs and related research fields.  相似文献

The field of nonfullerene organic solar cells (OSCs) has seen an impressive progress, largely due to advances in high‐performance small molecule acceptors (SMAs). As a large portion of the solar energy is located in the near‐infrared region, it is important to develop ultralow‐bandgap SMAs that have extended absorption in the spectral range of 800–1000 nm to maximize light absorption and efficiencies. In this work, three low‐bandgap SMAs, namely, IXIC, IXIC‐2Cl, and IXIC‐4Cl, are designed and synthesized with same fused terthieno[3,2‐b]thiophene donor unit and different end groups (EGs). The three SMAs all have low optical bandgap (Eg) of 1.35, 1.30, and 1.25 eV, respectively. The chlorination on EGs can lower the energy level and broaden absorption range of the SMAs. As a result, the Voc of the devices is reduced but the Jsc is significantly increased. In addition, the addition of chlorine atoms can enhance π–π stacking and crystallinity of the SMAs, which result in high fill factors. Overall, the optimum EGs are monochlorine‐substituted IC and OSCs based on PBDB‐T:IXIC‐2Cl that can achieve remarkable power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 12.2%, which is one of the highest PCEs for nonfullerene organic solar cells based on low‐bandgap SMAs.  相似文献

Morphology is a critical factor to determine the photovoltaic performance of organic solar cells (OSCs). However, delicately fine‐tuning the morphology involving only small molecules is an extremely challenging task. Herein, a simple, generic, and effective concentration‐induced morphology manipulation approach is demonstrated to prompt both the state‐of‐the‐art thin‐film BTR‐Cl:Y6 and thick‐film BTR:PC71BM all‐small‐molecule (ASM) OSCs to a record level. The morphology is delicately controlled by subtly altering the prepared solution concentration but maintaining the identical active layer thickness. The remarkable performance enhancement achieved by this approach mainly results from the enhanced absorption, reduced trap‐assistant recombination, increased crystallinity, and optimized phase‐separated network. These findings demonstrate that a concentration‐induced morphology manipulation strategy can further propel the reported best‐performing ASM OSCs to a brand‐new level, and provide a promising way to delicately control the morphology towards high‐performance ASM OSCs.  相似文献

Organic solar cells (OSCs) containing non‐fullerene acceptors have realized high power conversion efficiency (PCE) up to 14%. However, most of these high‐performance non‐fullerene OSCs have been reported with optimal active layer thickness of about 100 nm, mainly due to the low electron mobility (≈10?4–10?5 cm2 V?1 s?1) of non‐fullerene acceptors, which are not suitable for roll‐to‐roll large‐scale processing. In this work, an efficient non‐fullerene OSC based on poly[(5,6‐difluoro‐2,1,3‐benzothiadiazol‐4,7‐diyl)‐alt‐(3,3′″‐di(2‐octyldodecyl)‐2,2′;5′,2″;5″,2′″‐quaterthiophen‐5,5′′′‐diyl)] (PffBT4T‐2OD):EH‐IDTBR (consists of electron‐rich indaceno[1,2‐b:5,6‐b′]dithiophene as the central unit and an electron‐deficient 5,6‐benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole unit flanked with rhodanine as the peripheral group) with thickness‐independent PCE (maintaining a PCE of 9.1% with an active layer thickness of 300 nm) is presented by optimizing device architectures to overcome the space‐charge effects. Optical modeling reveals that most of the incident light is absorbed near the transparent electrode side in thick‐film devices. The transport distance of electrons with lower mobility will therefore be shortened when using inverted device architecture, in which most of the excitons are generated close to the cathode side and therefore substantially reduces the accumulation of electrons in the device. As a result, an efficient thick‐film non‐fullerene OSC is realized. These results provide important guidelines for the development of more efficient thick‐film non‐fullerene OSCs.  相似文献

A series of alkyl, alkoxyl, and alkylthio substituted A–π–D–π–A type nonfullerene acceptors (NFAs) IDTCN‐C , IDTCN‐O, and IDTCN‐S are designed and synthesized. The introduction of a lateral side chain at the outer position of the π bridge unit can endow the terminal moiety with a confined planar conformation due to the steric hindrance. Thus, compared with nonsubstituted NFA ( IDTT2F ), these acceptors tend to form favorable face‐on orientation and exhibit strong crystallinity as verified with grazing‐incidence wide‐angle X‐ray scattering measurement. Moreover, the variation of side chain can significantly change the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy level of acceptors. As state‐of‐the‐art NFAs, a power conversion efficiency of 13.28% (Voc = 0.91 V, Jsc = 19.96 mA cm?2, and FF = 73.2%) is obtained for the as‐cast devices based on IDTCN‐O , which is among the highest value reported in literature. The excellent photovoltaic performance for IDTCN‐O can be attributed to its slightly up‐shifted LUMO level and more balanced charge transport. This research demonstrates side chain engineering is an effective way to achieve high efficiency organic solar cells.  相似文献

Ternary organic solar cells (OSCs) have attracted much research attention, as they can maintain the simplicity of the single‐junction device architecture while broadening the absorption range of OSCs. However, one main challenge that limits the development of ternary OSCs is the difficulty in controlling the morphology of ternary OSCs. In this paper, an effective approach to control the morphology is presented that leads to multiple cases of efficient nonfullerene ternary OSCs with efficiencies of up to 11.2%. This approach is based on a donor polymer with strong temperature dependent aggregation properties processed from hot solutions without any solvent additives and a pair of small molecular acceptors (SMAs) that have similar surface tensions and thus low propensity to form discrete phases. Such a ternary blend exhibits a simplified bulk‐heterojunction morphology that is similar to the morphology of previously reported binary blends. As a result, an almost linear relationship between VOC and film composition is observed for all nonfullerene ternary devices. Meanwhile, by carefully designing a control system with a large interfacial tension, a different phase separation and VOC dependence is demonstrated. This morphology control approach can be applicable to more material systems and accelerates the development of the ternary OSC field.  相似文献
