The effects of soil types and soil water matric pressure on the Heterodera glycines-Glycine max interaction were examined in microplots in 1988 and 1989. Reproduction of H. glycines was restricted in fine-textured soils as compared with coarse-textured ones. Final population densities of this pathogen in both years of the study were greater in nonirrigated soils than in irrigated soils. The net photosynthetic rate of soybean (per unit area of leaf) was suppressed only slightly or not at all in response to infection by H. glycines and other stresses. Relative soybean-yield suppression in response to H. glycines was not affected by water content in fine-textured soils, but slopes of the damage functions were steepest in sand, sandy loam, and muck soils at high water content (irrigated plots). Yield restriction of soybean in response to this pathogen under irrigation was equal to or greater than the yield suppression under dry conditions. Although yield potential may be elevated by irrigation when soil-water content is inadequate, supplemental irrigation cannot be used to circumvent nematode damage to soybean.  相似文献

Experimental and correlative evidence has steadily mounted over the past 30 years implicating spiders in the suppression of insect herbivore pests in crop fields. A large body of evidence has also shown that increasing agroecosystem vegetation diversity often influences the abundance of herbivores and their natural enemies. In previous experiments, the abundance of several species of spiders on grapevines in a raisin grape vineyard was twofold enhanced in vineyard plots vegetationally diversified with a cover crop. A concomitant reduction in the abundance of the leafhopper pest Erythroneura variabilis Beamer was observed on grapevines in the diversified plots, but a causal relationship was not established. In the present study, we simultaneously manipulated spider densities (in open‐vine spider exclusion and vine‐shoot enclosures) and ground cover to determine their relative impact on E. variabilis population dynamics. Open‐vine spider exclusion resulted in an average 35% increase in the density of E. variabilis the greatest effect with occurring during the first and second leafhopper generations. The negative impact of spiders on E. variabilis densities was corroborated with vine‐shoot enclosure experiments. Under the conditions of the present study, the cover crop per se did not affect the dynamics of E. variabilis populations on grapevines, despite a 1.6‐fold increase in spider densities on vines in cover crop plots, compared with vines in bare ground plots, probably due to insufficient spider enhancement and low overall E. variabilis abundance during the summer months. The cover crop had little effect on vine macronutrient status (and presumably vine water status). While this study provided further support for the hypothesis that vegetation diversity can enhance spider abundance, this enhancement does not always lead to lower pest densities, thus underscoring the complexity and variability that exists in interactions involving cover crop, spiders, and crop plants and their herbivore pests.  相似文献

Charcoal rot, caused by Macrophomina phaseolina, has become increasingly problematic for melon growers using subsurface drip irrigation in Arizona; but has rarely been observed in fields with furrow irrigation. Since the relationship between increasing incidence of charcoal rot on melon and irrigation type is unknown, studies were initiated to determine the effects of edaphic factors on inoculum density. Soil samples were collected once from fields irrigated by subsurface drip, with and without plastic mulch, and by furrow at 10, 20 and 30 cm depths. Samples were analysed for percentage soil moisture, pH, salinity and inoculum density. Percentage soil moisture was significantly higher at 20 and 30 cm depths in the furrow‐irrigated field compared with the drip‐irrigated field with plastic mulch, but not in the field without plastic mulch. Average minimum and maximum temperatures and inoculum density were significantly lower at all three depths in the furrow‐irrigated field compared with both types of drip irrigation. pH was significantly higher in the furrow‐irrigated field compared with both types of drip irrigation at 20 and 30 cm depths but not at 10 cm depth. Differences in inoculum densities of M. phaseolina suggest that drip irrigation may contribute to higher disease incidences.  相似文献

为评价茶园间作几种常见经济作物对重要害虫假眼小绿叶蝉及其主要天敌蜘蛛类群数量和空间格局的影响,遂选乌牛早品种纯茶园、乌牛早分别与柑桔、杨梅和吊瓜的间作茶园、以及安吉白茶与吊瓜间作茶园,2007年9月上旬—2008年12月下旬,每旬1次调查茶丛上、中、下层叶蝉和各种蜘蛛的数量。结果表明:(1)与纯茶园相比,间作茶园叶蝉种群数量和蜘蛛类群个体数量显著地增加,间作茶园蜘蛛种数显著地增加;(2)间作茶园茶丛上、中、下层叶蝉、蜘蛛个体数量分布明显区别于纯茶园茶丛上、中、下层叶蝉、蜘蛛个体数量分布;(3)茶丛上层的嫩梢是制作高档茶的原料,而纯茶园茶丛上层叶蝉虫口百分率为54.16%,间作茶园茶丛上层叶蝉虫口百分率皆减小,并且叶蝉高峰期间蜘蛛的跟随效应增强;(4)间作增加了经济收入并减少了防治次数。认为:(1)间作可在一定程度上调控叶蝉种群、蜘蛛类群的数量和空间格局;(2)间作可减轻叶蝉为害造成的产值损失,增强了茶园群落对于叶蝉的自然控制潜能。  相似文献

Conventional soybean weed management and transgenic herbicide-tolerant management were examined to assess their effects on soybean insect pest populations in south Georgia in 1997 and 1998. Soybean variety had very little impact on the insect species observed, except that maturity group effects were observed for stink bug, primarily Nezara viridula (L.), population densities on some sampling dates. Stink bugs were more abundant on the early maturing varieties in mid-season. Velvetbean caterpillar, Anticarsia gemmatalis Hübner, potato leafhopper, Empoasca fabae (Harris), and grasshoppers Melanoplus spp. were more numerous on either conventional or herbicide-tolerant varieties on certain dates, although these differences were not consistent throughout the season. Soybean looper, Pseudoplusia includens (Walker), threecornered alfalfa hopper, Spissistilus festinus (Say), and whitefringed beetles, Graphognathus spp , demonstrated no varietal preference in this study. Few weed treatment differences were observed, but if present on certain sampling dates, then pest numbers were higher in plots where weeds were reduced (either postemergence herbicides or preplant herbicide plus postemergence herbicide). The exception to this weed treatment effect was grasshoppers, which were more numerous in weedy plots when differences were present. In post emergence herbicide plots, there were no differences in insect pest densities between the conventional herbicides (e.g., Classic, Select, Cobra, and Storm) compared with specific gene-inserted herbicide-tolerant materials (i.e., Roundup and Liberty). Defoliation, primarily by velvetbean caterpillar, was different between soybean varieties at some test sites but not different between herbicide treatments. We did not observe differences in seasonal abundance of arthropod pests between conventional and transgenic herbicide-tolerant soybean.  相似文献

Soil populations of plant-parasitic nematodes were monitored bimonthly for 18 months in irrigated and nonirrigated corn plantings using four production systems: conventional and minimum tillage with crop residue returned and minimum tillage with 60% or 90% of previous corn crop residue removed. Populations of Meloidogyne incognita, Scutellonema brachyurum, Pratylenchus scribneri, and Paratrichodorus christiei varied among the tillage, nematicide, and irrigation treatments. Meloidogyne incognita and P. christiei populations were not significantly affected by tillage method, but S. brachyurum populations were highest during April 1981 and 1982 in minimum tillage treatments where crop debris was not removed. In contrast, S. brachyurum populations were lowest during the same period in minimum tillage plots where 90% of previous crop debris had been removed or where residues were incorporated with conventional tillage. Populations of P. scribneri were lowest in minimum tillage during August 1981 and April 1982. Regardless of tillage system, corn yields in all nonirrigated plots were increased during 1982 by application of carbofuran (2.24 kg a.i./ha). No yield increases were observed following nematicide application in 1981.  相似文献

Abiotic factors control invasion by Argentine ants at the community scale   总被引:11,自引:0,他引:11  
1. A prominent and unresolved question in ecology concerns why communities differ in their susceptibility to invasion. While studies often emphasize biotic resistance, it is less widely appreciated how the physical environment affects community vulnerability to invasion. 2. In this study we performed field experiments to test how abiotic variation directly and indirectly influences the extent to which Linepithema humile Mayr (Argentine ants) invade seasonally dry environments in southern California. 3. In controlled and replicated experiments involving drip irrigation, we demonstrate (i) that elevated levels of soil moisture increased both the abundance of Argentine ants and their ability to invade native ant communities and (ii) that cessation of irrigation caused declines in the abundance of Argentine ants and led to their withdrawal from previously occupied areas. 4. Because drip irrigation stimulated plant growth, in an additional experiment we manipulated both soil moisture and plant cover to assess the direct vs. indirect effects of added water on the abundance of L. humile. 5. Local abundance of Argentine ants increased in irrigated plots but was 38% higher in irrigated plots with plants compared to irrigated plots where plant growth was suppressed. The results of this experiment thus argue for a direct role of soil moisture in influencing Argentine ant abundance but suggest that that the indirect effects of added water may also be important. 6. Our study illustrates more generally that fine-scale variation in the physical environment can control whether communities become invaded by non-native species and suggests that an understanding of community susceptibility to invasion will be improved by a better appreciation of interactions between the biotic and abiotic environment.  相似文献

Irrigation and an in vitro agitation assay were used to determine the percentage of the epiphytic yeast community (Cryptococcus, Pseudozyma, Rhodotorula, and Sporobolomyces) adhering to the phylloplane of creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris (Huds.) Pers.). Colony-forming units (cfu) of total epiphytic yeast populations (adherent and nonadherent cells) and of adherent populations (cells not removed by agitation) were determined by leaf washing and dilution plating. In an in vitro assay, 40.0% and 57.1% of the yeast adhered to the leaves, whereas, in initial field trials the percentage of adherent yeasts ranged from 40.0% to 71.9% of the total population. Adherent yeast cfu on leaves in the morning were significantly lower on bentgrass (8.0 x 103 to 3.1 x 104 cfu.cm(-2)) compared with total yeast cfu (1.4 x 104 to 4.7 x 104 cfu.cm(-2)) on the nonirrigated control. No differences in yeast populations were observed between irrigated and nonirrigated plots 2 h after the 0900 treatments. Yeast populations followed a diurnal pattern, with larger cfu recovered from bentgrass leaves in the morning and significantly lower populations recovered in the afternoon. At 1400 the adherent yeast were 83.1%-100% of the total yeast population recovered from the leaves. The relative adhesiveness of the epiphytic yeast community on bentgrass leaves is dynamic with nonadherent cells making up a larger percentage of the population in the mornings than the afternoons.  相似文献

Alternative hypotheses were tested to explain a previously reported anomaly in the response of leaf photosynthetic capacity at light saturation (A(max)) in Miconia ciliata to dry-season irrigation. The anomaly is characterized by an abrupt increase in leaf A(max) for nonirrigated plants at the onset of the rainy season to values that significantly exceeded corresponding measurements for plants that were irrigated during the previous dry season. Hypothesis 1 posits that a pulse in leaf nitrogen increases CO(2) assimilation in nonirrigated plants at the onset of the wet season and is dampened for irrigated plants; this hypothesis was rejected because, although a wet-season nitrogen pulse did occur, it was identical for both irrigated and nonirrigated plants and was preceded by the increase in assimilation by nonirrigated plants. Hypothesis 2 posits that a reproduction-related, compensatory photosynthetic response occurs in nonirrigated plants following the onset of the wet season and is dampened in irrigated plants; consistent with hypothesis 2, high maximum assimilation rates for control plants in the wet season were significantly correlated with fruiting and flowering, whereas irrigation caused flowering and fruiting in the dry season, spreading M. ciliata reproductive activity in irrigated plants across the entire year.  相似文献

假眼小绿叶蝉Empoasca vitis(Gthe)是我国大陆茶区分布最广、为害最重的茶树害虫,其种群世代重叠严重,数量大。从我国13个主要产茶省份各选出一个重点产茶县(市),采集假眼小绿叶蝉标本,首次扩增得到其线粒体CO I基因全长序列,并以此探讨了假眼小绿叶蝉13个地理种群间的遗传多样性、分子变异、遗传分化程度及基因流水平。在13个地理种群中共得到了176条CO I基因序列,发现了113个变异位点,形成了105个CO I单倍型。总群体单倍型多样性Hd为0.9720,种群内单倍型多样性在0.804—1.000范围内,总群体和各种群的Tajima's D检验结果均不显著,说明茶园假眼小绿叶蝉的进化符合中性模型,种群数量较为稳定。AMOVA分子变异分析结果表明,茶园假眼小绿叶蝉的遗传分化主要来自于种群内部。Mantel检验显示各地理种群的遗传距离与地理距离之间不具有显著的相关性。总群体的遗传分化系数Gst为0.03652,固定系数Fst为0.10876,基因流Nm为4.097,表明地理种群间存在较频繁的基因交流,遗传差异较小。推测,20世纪90年代以来的省际之间频繁的茶树鲜叶贩运、异地茶苗的大批量调拨等因素促进了假眼小绿叶蝉的长距离迁移,加强了不同种群间的基因交流。  相似文献

The life cycle of Empoasca vitis and its most important parasitoid Anagrus atomus in southern Switzerland can be divided into three phases. In phase I the adults of E. vitis move from overwintering sites, i.e. primarily conifers, over deciduous plants into the vineyards. The parasitoid A. atomus on the other hand, appears to overwinter in leafhopper eggs, mainly on roses and blackberries. It subsequently completes one generation in leafhopper eggs primarily on blackberries and hazelnuts, before it attacks E. vitis eggs in the vineyards. For phase II, a population model with time‐varying age structures and stochastic properties was constructed for E. vitis. For this purpose a time‐varying distributed delay model with attrition was constructed. Given the calibrated initial density of overwintering females, the model predicts an unacceptable number of E. vitis for the growing season. However, if egg parasitism of A. atomus and Stethynium triclavatum is introduced into the model as an external variable E. vitis densities are predicted which are economically irrelevant. Inphase III E. vitis adults leave the vineyards for the overwintering sites. The model shows the importance of the parasitoid A. atomus during phase II. A. atomus should be favoured by surrounding the vineyards with host plants carrying leafhoppers’ eggs. Consequently, habitat management measures for E. vitis control could be applied to the surroundings of the vineyards.  相似文献

This work determined the impact of irrigation on the seasonal dynamics of populations of Pseudomonas spp. producing the antibiotics phenazine-1-carboxylic acid (Phz(+)) and 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol (Phl(+)) in the rhizosphere of wheat grown in the low-precipitation zone (150 to 300 mm annually) of the Columbia Plateau of the Inland Pacific Northwest. Population sizes and plant colonization frequencies of Phz(+) and Phl(+) Pseudomonas spp. were determined in winter and spring wheat collected during the growing seasons from 2008 to 2009 from selected commercial dryland and irrigated fields in central Washington State. Only Phz(+) bacteria were detected on dryland winter wheat, with populations ranging from 4.8 to 6.3 log CFU g(-1) of root and rhizosphere colonization frequencies of 67 to 100%. The ranges of population densities of Phl(+) and Phz(+) Pseudomonas spp. recovered from wheat grown under irrigation were similar, but 58 to 100% of root systems were colonized by Phl(+) bacteria whereas only 8 to 50% of plants harbored Phz(+) bacteria. In addition, Phz(+) Pseudomonas spp. were abundant in the rhizosphere of native plant species growing in nonirrigated areas adjacent to the sampled dryland wheat fields. This is the first report that documents the impact of irrigation on indigenous populations of two closely related groups of antibiotic-producing pseudomonads that coinhabit the rhizosphere of an economically important cereal crop. These results demonstrate how crop management practices can influence indigenous populations of antibiotic-producing pseudomonads with the capacity to suppress soilborne diseases of wheat.  相似文献

Physiological parameters of mycorrhizal symbiosis by Helianthemum almeriense and Terfezia claveryi in orchards were characterized under water deficit conditions. Our orchard included 40 mycorrhizal and 40 nonmycorrhizal plants. Only mycorrhizal plants survived at the beginning of the experimental period, indicating dependency on fungal symbionts in roots for survival. Drought stress significantly affected the mycorrhizal colonization percentage which was 70% in nonirrigated mycorrhizal and 48% in irrigated mycorrhizal plants. No significant differences in plant growth were observed between nonirrigated and irrigated mycorrhizal plants before and after drought stress. Stomatal conductance was more sensitive to water stress than shoot water potential. It decreased more than two-fold under drought-stress compared to control mycorrhizal plants under irrigation/light saturating conditions, indicating important stomatal closure with water deficit. Plants’ water use efficiency improved with drought with stomatal conductance values below 0.3 mol?m?2?s?1. The ability to maintain open stomata and photosynthesis under drought increased carbon supply for growth, and ascocarp fruiting which requires current photosynthates. Basically, H. almeriense shows a conservative water use strategy based mainly on avoiding drought stress by reducing stomatal conductance as soil water potential decreases and atmospheric conditions dry. The results show that mycorrhizal H. almeriense plants maintain good physiological parameters with low soil matric potentials, thus making them an alternative agricultural crop in arid/semi-arid areas.  相似文献

采用多管发酵法检测二级水灌溉对马铃薯种植土壤中大肠菌群数量,结果表明:充分灌溉后的土壤中大肠菌群的数量均高于分根交替灌的土壤;地下滴灌的土壤中大肠菌群数量高于沟灌土壤的大肠菌群数量;二级水经加氯消毒后,土壤中大肠菌群数量明显下降。同样采用多管发酵法检测马铃薯块茎,结果发现:采用加氯消毒后的二级水灌溉的小区E和F中生长的马铃薯,其块茎组织中大肠菌群数量低于其他小区,采用地下滴灌灌溉的小区I和J所种植出的马铃薯块茎中大肠菌群的数量高于采用沟灌灌溉的小区K和L。结果表明:马铃薯块茎中大肠菌群的数量与其生境中大肠菌群的数量有密切关系。  相似文献

Although the corn leafhopper Dalbulus maidis (DeLong and Wolcott) is the most important vector of maize pathogens in Latin America, little is known about how and where it overwinters (passes the dry season), particularly in Mexico. The objectives of this study were (1) to monitor the abundance of D. maidis adults throughout the dry season in maize and maize-free habitats and (2) to determine where and how D. maidis adults, exposed or nonexposed to the maize pathogen Spiroplasma kunkelii Whitcomb, overwinter in a maize-free habitat. Work for the first objective was done during the two consecutive dry seasons of 1999-2000 and 2000-2001; the second objective was done during the dry seasons of 2003-2004 and 2005-2006. During the dry winter seasons, D. maidis was prevalent as long as maize was present in irrigated areas. The leafhopper was found in 52 of the 58 irrigated maize fields sampled in Mexico at the end of the dry seasons of 1999-2000 and 2000-2001. However, leafhopper adults were not found in nonirrigated maize-free habitats at high elevation during the dry winter season (February, March, and April), although leafhopper adults were prevalent on perennial wild grasses in January after maize harvest. Additional experiments revealed, however, that corn leafhopper adults, although few in number, survived the entire dry season in these nonirrigated maize-free fields. Also, no detectable difference in survival existed between leafhoppers exposed and those not exposed to S. kunkelli during the two dry seasons in the maize-free habitat.  相似文献

Both water deficit stress and Meloidogyne incognita infection can reduce cotton growth and yield, and drought can affect fiber quality, but the effect of nematodes on fiber quality is not well documented. To determine whether nematode parasitism affects fiber quality and whether the combined effects of nematode and drought stress on yield and quality are additive (independent effects), synergistic, or antagonistic, we conducted a study for 7 yr in a field infested with M. incognita. A split-plot design was used with the main plot factor as one of three irrigation treatments (low [nonirrigated], moderate irrigation, and high irrigation [water-replete]) and the subplot factor as 0 or 56 l/ha 1,3-dichloropropene. We prevented water deficit stress in plots designated as water-replete by supplementing rainfall with irrigation. Plots receiving moderate irrigation received half the water applied to the water-replete treatment. The severity of root galling was greater in nonfumigated plots and in plots receiving the least irrigation, but the amount of irrigation did not influence the effect of fumigation on root galling (no irrigation × fumigation interaction). The weights of lint and seed harvested were reduced in nonfumigated plots and also decreased as the level of irrigation decreased, but fumigation did not influence the effect of irrigation. Nematodes affected fiber quality by increasing micronaire readings but typically had little or no effect on percent lint, fiber length (measured by HVI), uniformity, strength, elongation, length (based on weight or number measured by AFIS), upper quartile length, or short fiber content (based on weight or number). Micronaire also was increased by water deficit stress, but the effects from nematodes and water stress were independent. We conclude that the detrimental effects caused to cotton yield and quality by nematode parasitism and water deficit stress are independent and therefore additive.  相似文献

Cultivars of glandular-haired alfalfa, Medicago sativa L., such as '54H69', are currently available and marketed as being resistant to potato leafhopper, Empoasca fabae (Harris). Between 2000 and 2002, studies were conducted to compare the effects of '54H69' and a standard, nonglandular-haired alfalfa cultivar, 'Choice', on alfalfa weevil, Hypera postica (Gyllenhal), and potato leafhopper populations at Campbell and Montgomery counties, Virginia. '54H69' had no effect on alfalfa weevil populations. At each location, densities of alfalfa weevil in '54H69' and 'Choice' were similar, but pest pressure was higher at Campbell Co. than at Montgomery Co. and always exceeded the economic threshold before insecticide was applied. Densities of potato leafhopper also did not differ between '54H69' and 'Choice' in any year at the two locations. Insecticide treatment effectively reduced potato leafhopper densities in the two cultivars, although populations were below the economic threshold at both locations when the insecticides were applied. Overall, postinsecticide treatment comparisons showed that the densities of alfalfa weevil and potato leafhoppers were similar or higher in untreated '54H69' compared with insecticide-treated 'Choice'. In addition, there were no differences in seasonal dry yields between '54H69' and 'Choice' in any year at either location. Our results indicate that the glandular-haired alfalfa '54H69' does not provide acceptable resistance to potato leafhopper and also does not offer a yield advantage to growers in Virginia.  相似文献

比较分析了福建4个主要茶树品种(福云6号、铁观音、毛蟹、黄棪)的理化特性与假眼小绿叶蝉种群数量之间的相关关系,结果显示,假眼小绿叶蝉的种群数量与茶树品种叶片的物理结构———叶片总厚度、上表皮、上表皮角质层、下表皮、海绵组织厚度之间的相关性不显著,而与叶片下表皮角质层和栅栏组织厚度之间存在显著负相关。在生化指标方面,假眼小绿叶蝉的种群数量与茶树叶片中茶多酚、水溶性糖、可溶性蛋白、儿茶素含量之间的相关性不显著;与咖啡碱的含量有一定负相关,相关关系接近显著水平;而与游离氨基酸含量呈显著正相关。  相似文献

The water flow pattern and distribution in drip irrigated soil are different than those for conventional irrigation systems, to an extent that could drastically effect reactions of nutrient ions in the soil.Ammonium applied through the irrigation system was not nitrified in the saturated zone below the emitter. Nitrification occurred in the unsaturated zone surrounding the central cylinder. Nitrate levels and number of nitrifying bacteria are low below the emitter and higher father away.The residual nitrogen in the soil was found to be higher than that found for conventional irrigation plots. It does seem that application of ammonical fertilizer through a drip irrigation system is potentially a controlled release fertilizer system.  相似文献

试验结果表明,在自然情况下,杂交中稻田害虫及天敌的种群密度,随着施氮量的增加而增加,其幅度因年度而异,中等发生年大于大发生年。在同一施氮量下,田水深浅对害虫的效应,因害虫种类而不同,白背飞虱和褐稻虱明显,稻纵卷叶螟和稻蓟马没有差异。杂交中稻在不防治害虫的情况下,因受害虫为害而造成的损失,与施氮量呈正相关。多施氮肥区比药剂保护区减产5成以上;一般施氮水平减产3成;少施氮肥的减产2成左右。  相似文献
