The bioeconomy, with its aim of replacing fossil by biobased resources, is increasingly focusing on biomass production from perennial crops, such as miscanthus. To date, research on miscanthus has explored a number of cultivation aspects; however, one major issue has not yet been addressed: How can former miscanthus fields be reintegrated into a crop rotation? This encompasses the questions of which following crop most efficiently suppresses resprouting miscanthus and what happens to the soil nitrogen content after a miscanthus removal. This study aimed to answer both questions. For this purpose, four spring crops (ryegrass, rapeseed, barley, maize) and fallow as control were cultivated after a Miscanthus sinensis removal. To test the effect of the removal on soil nitrogen content, each spring crop (excluding fallow) was divided into fertilized and unfertilized plots. After the spring crop harvest, winter wheat was cultivated to clarify which spring crop had most efficiently suppressed the resprouting miscanthus. The results indicate that fertilized crops had 35% less miscanthus biomass per hectare than unfertilized crops, probably due to the higher plant density and/or better development of the fertilized crops during the growing season. The soil mineral nitrogen (Nmin) content was found to increase during the vegetation period following the miscanthus removal (average +14.85 kg/ha), but was generally on a low level. We conclude that nitrogen from miscanthus residues is partly fixed in organic matter and is thus not plant‐available in the first cropping season. As some nitrogen is supplied by the decomposition of miscanthus residues, our results suggest that the crop cultivated after a miscanthus removal requires less fertilization. Of all the follow‐on spring crops tested, maize coped with the prevailing soil conditions and resprouting miscanthus most efficiently, resulting in satisfactory yields, and thus seems to be a suitable crop for cultivation after miscanthus.  相似文献

Perennial energy grasses have gained attention in recent years as a promising resource for the bioeconomy because of their benign environmental profile, high stress tolerance, high biomass yields and low input requirements. Currently, strong breeding efforts are being made to extend the range of commercially available miscanthus and switchgrass genotypes. In order to foster farmers' acceptance of these crops, and especially of novel hybrids, more information is required about how they can be efficiently integrated into cropping rotations, how they can be removed at the end of their productive lifespan, and what effect they have on subsequently grown crops. Farmers in Europe are meanwhile increasingly constrained in the methods available to them to remove these crops, and there is a risk that the herbicide glyphosate, which has been used in many studies to remove them, will be banned in coming years. This study looks at the removal of seven-year-old stands of miscanthus and switchgrass over 1 year at an experimental site in Southern-Germany. Three novel miscanthus genotypes were studied, alongside one variety of switchgrass, and the impact of each crop's removal on the yield of maize grown as a follow-on crop was examined. A combination of soil tillage and grass herbicides for maize cultivation was successful in controlling miscanthus regrowth, such that yields of maize grown after miscanthus did not differ significantly from yields of maize grown in monoculture rotation (18.1 t dry biomass ha−1). Yields of maize grown after switchgrass (14.4 t dry biomass ha−1) were significantly lower than maize in monoculture rotation caused by insufficient control of switchgrass regrowth by the applied maize herbicide. Although some regrowth of miscanthus and switchgrass was observed in the follow-on crop maize, complete eradication of both crops was achieved by subsequent winter wheat cultivation.  相似文献

矿产资源的开发,在支撑社会经济发展的同时,造成了区域资源和生态环境的改变,极大影响农户的生计方式和生活环境。基于高分辨率遥感影像分析了山西省阳泉矿区典型村庄煤矿开采前后的土地利用变化,基于可持续生计框架(Sustainable Livelihoods Framework,SLF)和参与式农村评估法(Participatory Rural Appraisal,PRA),研究了矿区农户的生计动态及不同类型失地农户的生计可持续能力。结果表明:1)煤矿开采改变了村庄土地利用格局。耕地大面积减少,由占区域面积69.72%降为29.42%;工矿用地大幅度增加,由占区域面积7.51%增为25.01%;农村建设用地、林地、草地和水域均有不同程度的增加。2)农户的资本组合及生计方式随着煤矿开采呈现相应的动态变化,农户逐渐呈现兼业特性;不同类型失地农户的生计资本存在显著性差异。3)生计资本结构的不同造成农户生计可持续发展能力不平等,生计资本累计值越大,农户的生计可持续性越强。矿区农户生计的研究为促进农户生计资本合理配置、缓解矿区企业与农户利益冲突提供了科学依据。  相似文献

探索禁牧政策背景下农户生计资本与生计结果关系,对提升农户生计和沙漠化逆转的可持续水平具有重要意义。以农牧交错带上典型的沙漠化逆转区宁夏盐池县为例,基于SLA可持续生计框架和实地调研数据,定量评估了农户生计资本与沙漠化逆转趋势,运用灰色关联法和二元Logistic模型探讨了两者间的关系和影响。结果表明:(1)盐池县农户的生计资本存量仅处于维持基本生活需求阶段,金融资本和社会资本储量较低,存在明显的属性差异,各乡镇间差异较小;(2)农户对沙漠化逆转的响应主要表现在生态政策、适应行为、环保意识、环保行为和环境感知5个方面,存在显著的属性差异和空间差异,63.76%的受访户倾向于沙漠化逆转可持续;(3)农户生计资本与沙漠化逆转趋势之间存在较强的关联关系,人力资本和金融资本对沙漠化逆转可持续起负向作用,而物质资本、自然资本和社会资本则呈正向影响;(4)金融资本、社会资本和人力资本是影响沙漠化逆转可持续的关键因素,是今后该县农户生计资本更新与发展、可持续生计能力形成的关键点和突破点。  相似文献

适应性研究是全球变化科学研究的重点领域,其核心宗旨在于提高适应能力。采用主成分分析法,通过构建农户生态环境变化适应能力测量指标体系,对位于库布其沙漠的杭锦旗不同区域和不同生计类型农户对生态环境变化的适应能力进行了定量评价与对比分析,并就农户对生态环境变化适应能力的主要驱动因子进行了探析。结果表明:(1)杭锦旗农户对生态环境变化的适应能力处于较低的水平。其中,南部梁外区农户对生态环境变化的适应能力高于北部沿河区;兼业型农户对生态环境变化的适应能力高于纯农户和非农户。(2)农户对生态环境变化适应能力的驱动因子,由主到次依次为:人力能力及生计多样化程度、耕地及物质财富拥有状况、生态环境意识、基础设施条件和农户从事畜牧业的状况。在此基础上,提出了提高杭锦旗农户生态环境变化适应能力的政策建议。  相似文献

Determining optimal management practices for the profitable production of perennial energy crops is critical for scaling up production beyond experimental levels. Although many experimental field studies have examined the effects of management practices on the performance of miscanthus and switchgrass, there are no recommendations for economically optimal nitrogen (N) application rates and how they should vary spatially and with the age of the energy crop as well as on optimal rotation age of the energy crop to maximize profits. We develop a modeling framework to determine economically optimal crop management decisions and simulate the variability under various scenarios for miscanthus and switchgrass production across 2287 counties in the rainfed United States. We find that profit-maximizing N recommendations for these crops vary across maturity stages and regions and can increase the landowner's profits compared with a uniform N rate across ages and regions. We also find that the optimal rotation for these crops is shorter than the productive physical lifespan (15–20 and 10 years for miscanthus and switchgrass, respectively). Specifically, the N rate that maximizes the economic returns is negligible for miscanthus and 111 kg ha−1 for switchgrass production at age 2. The mean profit-maximizing N rate increases with age for miscanthus, peaking at 151 kg ha−1 at age 11 before declining to 114 kg ha−1 at the optimal rotation age of 13 years while that for switchgrass is 150 kg ha−1 for middle-aged stands and declines to 114 kg ha−1 at the optimal rotation of 8–9 years. We find that miscanthus is the most profitable energy crop in the northern region of the rainfed United States while switchgrass is most profitable in the south of the rainfed United States. Our findings are useful for improving assessments of the profitability of energy crops and guiding future management decisions by landowners.  相似文献

禁牧政策下农户的适应策略是农户为了应对外界干预而做出的各种适应性改变,生计变化是其中最重要的部分。通过实地调查获得研究数据,对比分析禁牧初期和禁牧10a农户生计模式、养殖及种植方面的变化,并以农户的生计资本作为自变量,运用有序多分类和二项的Logistic回归模型分析农户适应策略(农户生计多样性、养殖规模及养殖方式)变化的影响因素。研究得出:1与禁牧初期相比,当前农户的适应策略主要表现为农户生计模式具有初步非农化倾向,生计多样性增加,大部分农户养殖规模减小或不变,农户生产结构有所调整,粮食作物种植面积增加,而经济作物种植面积减小,单只羊的养殖成本增加。2农户生计资本水平对其适应策略具有重要影响,农户生计多样性变化的主要影响因素有人力资本、金融资本和社会资本;影响农户养殖规模变化的主要有自然资本、物质资本、金融资本和社会资本,而影响农户养殖模式选择的主要是物质资本和金融资本因素。  相似文献

Intensive pig production systems are a source of stress, which is linked to reduced animal welfare and increased antimicrobial use. As the gatekeepers of the welfare of the animals under their care, farmers are seen as the stakeholder responsible for improving animal welfare. The aim of this study was to explore the knowledge and attitudes of pig farmers towards pig welfare and the impact of such attitudes on farmers' selection of management strategies on the farm. We conducted in-depth semi-structured interviews with 44 pig farmers in one of the main pig producing regions of Brazil. Interviews covered knowledge and attitudes towards pig sentience and behaviour and welfare-related issues commonly observed in intensive pig farms (belly-nosing, fights, tail-biting, diarrhoea and castration without pain control) and farmers' conception and attitudes towards pig welfare. We identified many management and animal-based indicators of poor welfare, such as the use of painful and stressful management practices and use of environments that limit the expression of natural behaviours. However, most farmers were satisfied with animal welfare standards at their farms. Farmers' perceptions are aligned with their understanding of animal welfare. Although they identified all the dimensions that impact the welfare of a pig on a farm (affect, biological functioning and naturalness), their social reality, industry demands and available advice pushed them to perceive their range of action limited to biological and environmental aspects of the animals that do not necessarily benefit affective state. This precluded farmers from making associations between good health and the animal's ability to express a full behavioural repertoire, as well as from viewing abnormal behaviours as problems. The negative consequences for the welfare of the animals were commonly alleviated by routines that relied on constant use of medication, including high dependence on antibiotics. Expressions of estrangement from the production chain were common voices among the participants. This suggests that farmers may not be sufficiently informed or engaged in responding to consumers' expectations and commitments made by companies, which can pose a severe economic risk for farmers. The findings of this study indicate that economic, technical and social factors restrict farmers' autonomy and their ability to perform their role as stewards of animal welfare. (Re)connecting different human, animal and environmental interests may be a step to changing this scenario.  相似文献

Papaya mealybug (PMB) is a serious insect pest for papaya production in Sub-Saharan Africa, limiting production potential in farming communities. We did a household survey to evaluate the Characteristics of farmers'' knowledge, challenges, and current (PMB) control practices in four papaya growing regions of Tanzania namely, Tanga, Dodoma, Pwani, and Katavi involving 100 papaya farmers. The study found that 96% of farmers reported PMB, as a major challenge in papaya production. Very few (0.8%) of the farmers were knowledgeable on insect pest identification. Chemical pesticides were the only option for PMB control, and 43.0% of farmers were able to access and apply. We also found that 36.4% of the farmers were aware of the adverse effects of chemical pesticides. Furthermore, the study observed that 0.3% of farmers use botanical pesticides. Additionally, the study observed that 44.1% of farmers use control measures against PMB, the remaining 55.9% did not practice any control measure, thus leading to low papaya yields observed in the study regions. Our findings provide insights to farmers into the use of plant-based pesticides, mainly plant essential oils, and its benefits that may promote farmers'' attitudes towards increasing papaya yield and reducing chemical pesticide use to avoid pest resistance.  相似文献

从事有机农业的农民福祉得到改善是有机农业发展的前提条件。采用Narayan等提出的福祉框架,回顾了有关有机农业行为和支持该行为的公共部门措施对农民福祉影响研究的文献,以厘清从事有机农业与农民福祉间的关系。研究表明,农民有机农业行为对其收入、健康、社会关系、安全和自由与选择等福祉要素产生影响。收入是农民福祉的首要构成要素,但农民有机农业行为究竟是增加还是降低其收入,需要考察具体情境中产量、成本和价格的综合作用,没有一致性结论。农民有机农业行为对其社会关系的影响具有双向性,但它对他们的健康、安全和选择机会的影响是积极的。公共部门通过财政支付、支持合作、建立与完善有机认证制度和采购绿色化等措施支持有机农业,有助于改善有机农民的福祉。其中,财政支付是最重要的支持措施。研究认为不同情境的农民有机农业行为对其福祉影响的综合评价、农民有机农业行为与其福祉间因果关系的检验和公共部门有机农业政策对有机农民福祉贡献的检验,是今后研究的重要选题。  相似文献

This study integrates a biophysical model with a county‐specific economic analysis of breakeven prices of bioenergy crop production to assess the biophysical and economic potential of biofuel production in the Midwestern United States. The bioenergy crops considered in this study include a genotype of Miscanthus, Miscanthus×giganteus, and the Cave‐in‐Rock breed of switchgrass (Panicum virgatum). The estimated average peak biomass yield for miscanthus in the Midwestern states ranges between 7 and 48 metric tons dry matter per hectare per year ( t DM ha?1 yr?1), while that for switchgrass is between 10 and 16 t DM ha?1 yr?1. With the exception of Minnesota and Wisconsin, where miscanthus yields are likely to be low due to cold soil temperatures, the yield of miscanthus is on average more than two times higher than yield of switchgrass. We find that the breakeven price, which includes the cost of producing the crop and the opportunity cost of land, of producing miscanthus ranges from $53 t?1 DM in Missouri to $153 t?1 DM in Minnesota in the low‐cost scenario. Corresponding costs for switchgrass are $88 t?1 DM in Missouri to $144 t?1 DM in Minnesota. In the high‐cost scenario, the lowest cost for miscanthus is $85 t?1 DM and for switchgrass is $118 t?1 DM, both in Missouri. These two scenarios differ in their assumptions about ease of establishing the perennial crops, nutrient requirements and harvesting costs and losses. The differences in the breakeven prices across states and across crops are mainly driven by bioenergy and row crop yields per hectare. Our results suggest that while high yields per unit of land of bioenergy crops are critical for the competitiveness of bioenergy feedstocks, the yields of the row crops they seek to displace are also an important consideration. Even high yielding crops, such as miscanthus, are likely to be economically attractive only in some locations in the Midwest given the high yields of corn and soybean in the region.  相似文献

A survey of Irish farmers was conducted to identify farmers’ opinions on energy crop production and to characterize potential adopters of energy crop cultivation in Ireland. One hundred and seventy‐two surveys were completed from 25 counties in Ireland. Miscanthus (48%) and grass (30%) were the preferred crops for adoption of energy crop production. Potential adopters described themselves as having a significantly greater level of knowledge of energy crop production compared with other respondents. The results indicate that lack of interest in adopting energy crop production may be due to lack of knowledge regarding the economic benefits of adoption and the variety of energy crops available for cultivation in Ireland. The establishment of long‐term contracts and government schemes were identified as important requirements for the development of bioenergy crop production in Ireland. Energy crop adoption was not limited to farmers undertaking specific farm enterprises. Farmers were motivated to adopt energy crop production for both economic and environmental benefits. These results are the first to provide valuable information on the perspectives of potential adopters of bioenergy crop production in Ireland for the promotion and implementation of a national bioenergy industry. Policy requirements and outreach strategies to encourage adoption of energy crops by agricultural producers are suggested.  相似文献

国家重点生态功能区财政转移支付虽覆盖全部地区,但其补偿资金主要用于生态修复成本与基本公共服务开支,缺少对外围农户受偿意愿的关注。基于阿尔泰山地森林草原生态功能区的553份农户调查数据,利用CVM法、Heckman两阶段选择模型对农户生态补偿参与意愿和受偿水平以及影响因素进行分析,为国家重点生态功能区面向农户出台生态补偿政策提供参考依据。研究结果表明:(1)调查区域85.53%的农户具有较强受偿需求,这一意愿具有生计方式、收入层次以及流域差异,经Heckman期望值估计方法调整后,农户受偿水平为1250.5元户-1 a-1。(2)自然资本中人均耕地面积对补偿参与意愿和受偿水平都具有正向影响,人均草场面积显著正向影响农户受偿水平;人力资本中劳动力比重对农户受偿水平具有正向影响;物质资本中,牲畜存栏量与受偿水平呈显著的负相关,生产性工具对补偿参与意愿和受偿水平都具有正向影响;金融资本中家庭总收入显著负向影响农户受偿水平,是否为脱贫巩固户身份对农户补偿参与意愿有正向影响;社会资本中汉语水平与农户参与意愿呈显著正相关,是否常去村级文化中心正向影响农户受...  相似文献

农户对气候变化的感知是其适应行动选择的基础,弄清楚影响农户气候变化感知的关键因素,辨明农户气候变化感知的形成机制,对制定有效的适应策略至关重要。以甘南高原为研究区,基于539份入户调查数据,构建了路径模型,分析了影响农牧户气候变化感知的关键因素及其作用路径,结果发现:(1)客观适应能力对农牧户的气候变化风险感知及适应感知有显著的正向影响;(2)气候变化信息对农牧户的气候变化风险感知及适应感知有显著的正向影响,它还通过客观适应能力间接影响农牧户的气候变化感知;(3)社会话语信任度对农牧户的气候变化风险感知及适应感知有显著的正向影响,适应激励对农牧户的气候变化适应感知有显著的正向影响,但对风险感知产生显著的负向影响,同时,社会话语信任度及适应激励均通过气候变化信息及客观适应能力而间接影响农牧户的气候变化感知。最后,基于影响甘南高原农牧户气候变化感知的关键因素,提出了提高农牧户的气候变化认知水平及气候变化适应行为有效性的对策建议。  相似文献

自1980年代后期以来,青藏高原持续变暖趋势明显,且增温幅度高于我国其他地区。基于遥感数据和种植适宜性模型的一些研究表明,该地区足够的农业热量资源增加了适宜耕种土地的面积,为农牧民的开垦行为创造了有利的条件。然而,对农牧民是否开垦以及开垦原因的实证研究,以及农牧民如何平衡气候变化带来的开垦机遇、风险和人口压力,仍然缺少认识。以青藏高原的3个典型产粮区域("一江两河"地区、河湟谷地、壤塘县)为研究区,利用605户农户家庭调研数据,分析了影响农牧民开垦行为的影响因素。计量结果表明,农牧民感知冬季持续时间的整体变化趋势、家庭总人口、抚养比与农牧民开垦行为呈显著正相关关系;农牧民感知降水的整体变化趋势、人均打工年收入、户主受教育水平、是否借贷、居住地距集镇距离与农牧民开垦行为呈显著负相关关系。随着城镇化的不断加快,农牧民对非农工作的认可度越来越高,加之政府的管制,使得开垦现象并不普遍。由于农牧民的开垦对青藏高原的生态环境极有可能造成不可逆的负面影响,应该提供更多的非农就业机会,促进农业集约化,加强监管,以降低开垦的可能性。  相似文献

Energy crops on marginal lands are seen as an interesting option to increase biomass contribution to the primary energy mix. However, in the literature there is currently a lack of integrated assessments of margin land availability, energy crop production potential and supply chain optimisation. Assessing the potential and the cost of these resources in a given region is therefore a difficult task. This work also emphasises the importance on a clear definition and discussion about marginal lands and the related ethical issues embedded in the concept to ensure positive societal impacts of the results. This study proposes a methodology to estimate and analyse, in terms of economic costs, the potential of miscanthus grown on marginal lands from the production to the final point of use. Different datasets are assembled and a supply chain optimisation model is developed to minimize the total cost of the system. Miscanthus is used as a representative energy crop for the Belgian and French case studies. High temperature heat demand is considered as final use. The miscanthus can be traded by truck either in the form of chips or pellets. The results show that the miscanthus on marginal lands could supply high temperature heat up to 38 TWh in France and 1.4 TWh in Belgium with an average cost of around 50 €/t. The different sensitivity analyses showed that the yield variation has the strongest influence on the final cost, together with the distances and the cost of production of miscanthus. The main pattern observed is the local consumption of miscanthus chips and export of the surplus (if any) to the neighbouring regions. Pellets are only of marginal interest for France and are never observed for Belgium. Distances and availability of sufficient feedstocks are the two main parameters impacting the production of pellets.  相似文献

Although some important features of genetically modified (GM) crops such as insect resistance, herbicide tolerance, and drought tolerance might seem to be beneficial for small-scale farmers, the adoption of GM technology by smallholders is still slight. Identifying pros and cons of using this technology is important to understand the impacts of GM crops on these farmers. This article reviews the main opportunities and challenges of GM crops for small-scale farmers in developing countries. The most significant advantages of GM crops include being independent to farm size, environment protection, improvement of occupational health issues, and the potential of bio-fortified crops to reduce malnutrition. Challenges faced by small-scale farmers for adoption of GM crops comprise availability and accessibility of GM crop seeds, seed dissemination and price, and the lack of adequate information. In addition, R&D and production costs in using GM crops make it difficult for these farmers to adopt the use of these crops. Moreover, intellectual property right regulations may deprive resource poor farmers from the advantages of GM technology. Finally, concerns on socio-economic and environment safety issues are also addressed in this paper.  相似文献

厘清乡村振兴视角下农户生态系统服务依赖度及其多层次影响因素对落实乡村振兴措施、改善农户福祉具有一定实践意义。以生态脆弱区陕西省米脂县为例,基于价值法评估农户生态系统服务依赖度,同时分析乡村振兴视角下服务依赖度的村庄差异和农户差异,最后利用多层次模型揭示服务依赖度的影响因素。结果如下:(1)农户的服务依赖度均值为0.673;农户主要依赖供给服务,对调节和文化服务依赖较低;供给服务中主要依赖作物收益,对水果和牲畜依赖度较低。(2)示范村农户的服务依赖度高于非示范村,且各类服务依赖度存在较强村庄异质性。“作物+牲畜+调节服务”“作物+水果+调节服务”与“作物+调节服务”类型农户占比约80%,依赖度分别为0.690、0.835、0.410;服务类型多样化指数为2.882,且示范村多样化指数高于非示范村。(3)环境变量中,土壤保持能力较高的村庄,农户对作物与牲畜的依赖度越高;政府资金投入较多的村庄,农户对水果和文化服务的依赖度越高;海拔与水果依赖度呈现显著正相关,人口密度与调节服务呈显著负相关。  相似文献
