The purpose of this study was to investigate criteria for maximal effort in middle-aged men and women undertaking a maximal exercise test until they were exhausted if no measurements of oxygen uptake are made. A large group of 2164 men and 975 women, all active in sports and aged between 40 and 65 years, volunteered for a medical examination including a progressive exercise test to exhaustion on a cycle ergometer. In the 3rd min of recovery a venous blood sample was taken to determine the plasma lactate concentration ([la]p, 3min). Lactate concentration and maximal heart rate (f c, max) were lower in the women than in the men (P<0.001). Multiple regression analyses were performed to assess the contribution of sex to [la]p, 3 min, independent of age and f c max, It was found that [la]p,3 min was about 2.5 mmol·l–1 lower in women than in men of the same age and f c, max. In our population 88% of the men and 85% of the women met a combination of the following f c, max and [la]p, 3min criteria: f c, max equal to or greater than 220 minus age beats·min–1 and/or [la]p, 3min equal to or greater than 8 mmol·l–1 in the men and f c, max equal to or greater than 220 minus age beats·min–1 and/or [la]p, 3min equal to or greater than 5.5 mmol·1–1 in the women.  相似文献

To elucidate the role of factors other than the nervous system in heart rate (f c) control during exercise, the kinetics off c and plasma catecholamine concentrations were studied in ten heart transplant recipients during and after 10-min cycle ergometer exercise at 50 W. Thef c did not increase at the beginning of the exercise for about 60 s. Then in the eight subjects who completed the exercise it increased following an exponential kinetic with a mean time constant of 210 (SEM 22) s. The two other subjects were exhausted after 5 and 8 min of exercise during whichf c increased linearly. At the cessation of the exercise,f c remained unchanged for about 50 s and then decreased exponentially with a time constant which was unchanged from that at the beginning of exercise. In the group of eight subjects plasma noradrenaline concentration ([NA]) increased after 30 s to a mean value above resting of 547 (SEM 124) pg · ml–1, showing a tendency to a plateau, while adrenaline concentration ([A]) did not increase significantly. In the two subjects who became exhausted an almost linear increase in [NA] occurred up to about 1,300 pg · ml–1 coupled with a significant increase in [A]. During recovery an immediate decrease in [NA] was observed towards resting values. The values of thef c increase above resting levels determined at the time of blood collection were linearly related with [NA] increments both at the beginning and end of exercise with a similar slope, i.e. about 2.5 beats · min–1 per 100 pg · ml–1 of [NA] change. These findings would seem to suggest that in the absence of heart innervation the increase inf c depends on plasma [NA].  相似文献

Four top-class runners who regularly performed marathon and long-distance races participated in this study. They performed a graded field test on an artificial running track within a few weeks of a competitive marathon. The test consisted of five separate bouts of running. Each period lasted 6 min with an intervening 2-min rest bout during which arterialized capillary blood samples were taken. Blood was analysed for pH, partial pressure of oxygen and carbon dioxide (P02 and PCO2) and lactate concentration ([la]b). The values of base excess (BE) and bicarbonate concentration ([HCO3 ]) were calculated. The exercise intensity during the test was regulated by the runners themselves. The subjects were asked to perform the first bout of running at a constant heart rate f c which was 50 beats · min–1 below their own maximal f c. Every subsequent bout, each of which lasted 6 min, was performed with an increment of 10 beats · min–1 as the target f c. Thus the last, the fifth run, was planned to be performed with fc amounting to 10 beats · min–1 less than their maximal f c. The results from these runners showed that the blood pH changed very little in the bouts performed at a running speed below 100% of mean marathon velocity ( m). However, once mwas exceeded, there were marked changes in acid-base status. In the bouts performed at a velocity above the mthere was a marked increase in [la]b and a significant decrease in pH, [HCO3 ], BE and PCO2. The average marathon velocity ( m) was 18.46 (SD 0.32) km·h–1. The [la]b at a mean running velocity of 97.1 (SD 0.8) % of mwas 2.33 (SD 1.33) mmol ·l–1 which, compared with a value at rest of 1.50 (SD 0.60) mmol·l–1, was not significantly higher. However, when running velocity exceeded the vm by only 3.6 (SD 1.9) %, the [la]b increased to 6.94 (SD 2.48) mmol·l-1 (P<0.05 vs rest). We concluded from our study that the highest running velocity at which the blood pH still remained constant in relation to the value at rest and the speed of the run at which [la]b began to increase significantly above the value at rest is a sensitive indicator of capacity for marathon running.  相似文献

The dark-relaxation kinetics of variable fluorescence, Fv, in intact green leaves of Pisum stativum L. and Dolichos lablab L. were analyzed using modulated fluorometers. Fast (t1/2 = 1 s) and slow (t1/2 = 7–8 s) phases in fv dark-decay kinetics were observed; the rate and the relative contribution of each phase in total relaxation depended upon the fluence rate of the actinic light and the point in the induction curve at which the actinic light was switched off. The rate of the slow phase was accelerated markedly by illumination with far-red light; the slow phase was abolished by methyl viologen. The halftime of the fast phase of Fv dark decay decreased from 250 ms in dark-adapted leaves to 12–15 ms upon adaptation to red light which is absorbed by PSII. The analysis of the effect of far-red light, which is absorbed mainly by PSI, on Fv dark decay indicates that the slow phase develops when a fraction of QA (the primary stable electron acceptor of PSII) cannot transfer electrons to PSI because of limitation on the availability of P700+ (the primary electron donor of PSI). After prolonged illumination of dark-adapted leaves in red (PSII-absorbed) light, a transient. Fv rise appears which is prevented by far-red (PSI-absorbed) light. This transient fv rise reflects the accumulation of QA in the dark. The observation of this transient Fv rise even in the presence of the uncoupler carbonylcyanide m-chlorophenyl hydrazone (CCCP) indicates that a mechanism other than ATP-driven back-transfer of electrons to QA may be responsible for the phenomenon. It is suggested that the fast phase in Fv dark-decay kinetics represents the reoxidation of QA by the electron-transport chain to PSI, whereas the slow phase is likely to be related to the interaction of QA with the donor side of PSII.Abbreviations CCCP carbonylcyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone - FO initial fluorescence level - Fv variable fluorescence - P700 primary electron donor of PSI - PSI, II photosystem I, II - QA (QA ) QB (QB ) primary and secondary stable electron acceptor of PSII in oxidized (reduced) state Supported by grant B6.1/88 DST, Govt. of India.  相似文献

Using the impedance cardiography method, heart rate ( c) matched changes on indexed stroke volume (SI) and cardiac output (CI) were compared in subjects engaged in different types of training. The subjects consisted of untrained controls (C), volleyball players (VB) who spent about half of their training time (360 min · week–1) doing anaerobic conditioning exercises and who had a maximal oxygen uptake ( ) 41% higher than the controls, and distance runners (D) who spent all their training time (366 min·week–1) doing aerobic conditioning exercises and who had a 26% higher than VB. The subjects performed progressive submaximal cycle ergometer exercise (10 W·min–1) up to c of 150 beats·min–1. In group C, SI had increased significantly (P<0.05) at c of 90 beats·min–1 ( + 32%) and maintained this difference up to 110 beats·min–1, only to return to resting values on reaching 130 beats·min–1 with no further changes. In group VB, SI peaked (+ 54%) at c of 110 beats·min–1, reaching a value significantly higher than that of group C, but decreased progressively to 22010 of the resting value on reaching 150 beats·min–1. In group D, SI peaked at c of 130 beats·min–1 (+ 54%), reaching a value significantly higher than that of group VB, and showed no significant reduction with respect to this peak value on reaching 150 beats·min–1. As a consequence, the mean CI increase per c unit was progressively higher in VB than in C (+46%) and in D than in VB (+ 105%). It was concluded that thef c value at which SI ceased to increase during incremental exercise was closely related to the endurance component in the training programme.  相似文献

Sex differences in running economy (gross oxygen cost of running, CR), maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max), anaerobic threshold (Than), percentage utilization of aerobic power (% VO2max), and Than during running were investigated. There were six men and six women aged 20–30 years with a performance time of 2 h 40 min over the marathon distance. The VO2max, Than, and CR were measured during controlled running on a treadmill at 1° and 3° gradient. From each subject's recorded time of running in the marathon, the average speed (v M) was calculated and maintained during the treadmill running for 11 min. The VO2 max was inversely related to body mass (m b), there were no sex differences, and the mean values of the reduced exponent were 0.65 for women and 0.81 for men. These results indicate that for running the unit ml·kg–0.75·min–1 is convenient when comparing individuals with different m b. The VO2max was about 10% (23 ml·kg–0.75·min–1) higher in the men than in the women. The women had on the average 10–12 ml·kg–0.75·min–1 lower VO2 than the men when running at comparable velocities. Disregarding sex, the mean value of CR was 0.211 (SEM 0.005) ml·kg–1·m–1 (resting included), and was independent of treadmill speed. No sex differences in Than expressed as % VO2max or percentage maximal heart rate were found, but Than expressed as VO2 in ml·kg–0.75·min–1 was significantly higher in the men compared to the women. The percentage utilization of f emax and concentration of blood lactate at v M was higher for the female runners. The women ran 2 days more each week than the men over the first 4 months during the half year preceding the marathon race. It was concluded that the higher VO2max and Than in the men was compensated for by more running, superior CR, and a higher exercise intensity during the race in the performance-matched female marathon runners.  相似文献

A brief survey of the literature on manifestations of myo-electric fatigue has disclosed a surprisingly sharp conflict between early studies, focusing on neuromotor regulatory mechanisms, and more recent studies which stress the determinant influence of local metabolism and skewed homeostasis. Favoured explanations concerning changes in the electromyographic (EMG) spectrum were synchronization/grouping of motor unit (MU) firing and conduction velocity (CV) decreases of the action potential propagation. The notion of mutual exclusivity interwoven with these theories prompted us to reinvestigate the EMG of moderate level, static endurance contraction. Ten men in their twenties performed isometric elbow flexion (elbow angle 135°) at 30%6 maximal voluntary contraction (MVC), and the surface EMG of the brachioradialis (BR) and biceps brachii (BB) muscles was recorded. Initially the CV — determined by cross-correlation — was 4.3 m · s–1 (BR) and 4.6 m · s–1 (BB). At exhaustion the CV of the BR muscle had declined by 33%, roughly twice the decrease of the BB CV. Substantially larger relative median frequency (f m) reductions of 50% (BR) and 43% (BB) were found. Simultaneously, the root-mean-square amplitudes grew by 150% (BR) and 120% (BB). All changes during contraction reached the same level of significance (P<0.001, both muscles). From the largely uniform relative increases inf m and CV during the last 4 min of a 5-min recovery period, variations in CV were suggested to produce equivalent shifts inf m. The gradually increasing discrepancies between relative decreases inf m and CV during contraction presumably reflected centrally mediated regulation of MU firing patterns (notably synchronization). After the 5-min recovery another 11 endurance contractions at 30% MVC were executed, separated by 5-min intervals. The series of contractions reduced the endurance time to one-third of the 153 s initially sustained, while the terminal CV recordings increased by 1.0 (BR) and 0.6 (BB) m · s–1, and the terminalf m increased by 24 (BR) and 14 (BB) Hz. The relative CV decreased in direct proportion to the endurance time and thef m decreases varied with the CV; the findings did not support a causal link between CV decrease (signifying impaired fibre excitability) and the force failure of exhaustion.  相似文献

Thermoregulatory sweating [total body (m sw,b), chest (m sw,c) and thigh (m sw,t) sweating], body temperatures [oesophageal (T oes) and mean skin temperature (T sk)] and heart rate were investigated in five sleep-deprived subjects (kept awake for 27 h) while exercising on a cycle (45 min at approximately 50% maximal oxygen consumption) in moderate heat (T air andT wall at 35° C. Them sw,c andm sw,t were measured under local thermal clamp (T sk,1), set at 35.5° C. After sleep deprivation, neither the levels of body temperatures (T oes,T sk) nor the levels ofm sw, b,m sw, c orm sw, t differed from control at rest or during exercise steady state. During the transient phase of exercise (whenT sk andT sk,1 were unvarying), them sw, c andm sw, t changes were positively correlated with those ofT oes. The slopes of them sw, c versusT oes, orm sw, t versusT oes relationships remained unchanged between control and sleep-loss experiments. Thus the slopes of the local sweating versusT oes, relationships (m sw, c andm sw, t sweating data pooled which reached 1.05 (SEM 0.14) mg·cm–2·min–1°C–1 and 1.14 (SEM 0.18) mg·cm–2·min–1·°C–1 before and after sleep deprivation) respectively did not differ. However, in our experiment, sleep deprivation significantly increased theT oes threshold for the onset of bothm sw, c andm sw, t (+0.3° C,P<0.001). From our investigations it would seem that the delayed core temperature for sweating onset in sleep-deprived humans, while exercising moderately in the heat, is likely to have been due to alterations occurring at the central level.  相似文献

A central composite design was employed for the optimization of heterogeneous enzymatic hydrolysis of sucrose. The reaction was catalyzed by whole yeast cells of Saccharomyces cerevisiae immobilized in Ca-pectate gel. Bioreactor volumetric productivity was chosen as an optimization criterion, while temperature and gel biomass concentration were optimization parameters. Sucrose inlet concentration of 700 kg m–3 and outlet conversion of 65% were constant in all experiments. In the temperature range 51–73 °C and biomass concentration range 11–39 kg m–3 (dry mass of cells), the dependence of bioreactor productivity on the two factors was described by a second order polynom regression equation. No simple optimum was revealed by the experimental design. The bioreactor productivity increased within the whole experimental range of biomass concentration, whereas a temperature optimum was found to be between 60 and 65 °C.List of Symbols b j jth regression coefficient - c Si kg m–3 inlet sucrose concentration - F m3 min–1 flow rate - F F distribution - f LF degrees of freedom of lack of fit variance - f P degrees of freedom of pure error variance - N total number of runs - n 0 number of runs in the centre of design - P kg m–3 min–1 productivity - s LF 2 lack of fit variance - SS LF lack of fit sum of squares - S p 2 pure error variance - SS P pure error sum of squares - SS R total residual sum of squares - V b m3 bioreactor bed volume - X O outlet conversion - x 1 1st factor - coded temperature - x 2 2nd factor - coded biomass concentration - y kgm–3min–1 measured response (productivity) - kg m–3 min–1 estimated response (productivity) - y Oi kg m–3 min–1 measured response in the centre of design - ¯y 0 kg m–3 min–1 average of response in the centre of design  相似文献

Summary Pulmonary CO-diffusing capacity (D l CO), lung volume, pulmonary perfusion and O2-uptake were measured by non-invasive techniques in the lizardsVaranus exanthematicus andTupinambis teguixin (mean body weight 2.2 kg for both species). The CO-diffusing capacity was at 25–27°C 0.059 mlstpd·kg–1·min–1·Torr–1 inVaranus, which is 47% greater than the value of 0.040 mlstpd·kg–1·min–1·Torr–1 inTupinambis. The lung volume ofVaranus was 36 ml·kg–1 and that ofTupinambis 20 ml·kg–1. At 35–37°C the diffusing capacity of lizard lungs are about 25% of those for mammals of comparable size.InVaranus pulmonary CO-diffusing capacity increased with temperature from 0.027 mlstpd·kg–1·min–1·Torr–1 at 17–19 °C to 0.075 mlstpd·kg–1·min–1·Torr–1 at 35–37 °C. This change closely matched a concomitant increase of O2-uptake. Pulmonary perfusion increased from 27 ml·kg–1·min–1 to 55 ml·kg–1·min–1 within this temperature range. The study emphasizes that pulmonary diffusing capacity cannot be fully evaluated without information on pulmonary perfusion and O2-uptake. In reptiles and other ectotherms diffusing capacity must be reported at specified body temperature.  相似文献

The batch productivity (Q TM) of the production of the nucleoside antibiotic toyocamycin (TM) by Streptomyces chrestomyceticus was increased ten-fold by selection of a UV generated mutant, optimization of pH, increasing incubation temperature from 28 °C to 36 °C, and addition of soy oil. Initial high oxygen transfer rates stimulated Q TM maxima two-fold. Antibiotic production by the mutant strain, U190, however, appeared more shear sensitive than the parent culture FCRF 341 with maximum antibiotic titer being inversely related to impellor tip velocity, T v . For this reason, scale-up could not be done at constant P/V or constant volumetric oxygen transfer. Instead, programming of impeller speed was evaluated in order to maintain optimal impeller tip velocity during scale-up. It was found that a low constant T v maintained in scale-up in geometrically similar vessels was most beneficial for duplication of optimal antibiotic productivity, Q TM. Pilot fermentations (120 dm3 scale) were used to determine coefficients of Q TM variation from oxygen uptake rate (OUR) and total CO2 evolution data for monitoring of Q TM variation during scale-up to the 12,000 dm3 scale. This technique allowed for on-line prediction of antibiotic titer and Q TM from fermentor exhaust gas data.List of Symbols A scale constant - B shape constant - C location of maximum constant - D m impeller diameter (m) - H m liquid height (m) - OTR MmolO2·(dm3)–1min–1 oxygen transfer rate - OUR MmolO2·(dm3)–1min–1 oxygen uptake rate - PCV cm3 packed cell volume - P/V watts/dm3 volumetric power consumption - Q 1 · min–1 corrected to standard conditions of temperature, pressure aeration rate - Q TM g/(cm3 · h) or kg/(m3 · h) antibiotic productivity - T m tank diameter - T mix s mixing time - T v cm · s–1 impeller tip velocity - TM g/cm3 Toyocamycin concentration - TNP Tricyclic nucleoside phosphate  相似文献

Heart rate (beats · min–1;f c) measured during marching with a load is often used to predict the oxygen cost (1·min–1; VO2) of the activity. The prediction comes from thef c/VO2 relationship determined from laboratory measures off c and VO2 during treadmill running. Studies in men have suggested that this may not be appropriate although this has yet to be examined in women. This study, therefore, compared thef c/VO2 relationship between loaded marching and maximal running protocols in women. Sixteen female subjects [mean (SD), age 21.9 (2.3) years, height 6 (0.06) m, weight 62.6 (7.6) kg] had theirf c (from three-lead chest electrodes) and VO2 measured first during standard treadmill run protocols, and again 1 week later during loaded marching protocols. The slopes and intercepts determined from linear regression off c on VO2 for each individual for each protocol were compared as were the maximalf c(f cmax), VO2 and ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) from the last work period of each protocol in pairedt-tests. The VO2 slopes (P < 0.01) and intercepts (P < 0.05) differed significantly between loaded marching and running.f cmax for loaded marching were 90% off cmax for running (P < 0.01) and VO2 for loaded marching were 80% of those for running (P < 0.01). However, RPE at the final levels for the two protocols were not significantly different. The data suggest that in women the VO2 relationships for loaded marching and for running are different. This difference is similar to that found in men when speed is held constant and the load and gradient are varied. The results suggest that it would be erroneous to usef c and VO2 measured during running protocols in the laboratory to estimate energy expenditure and work intensity during loaded marching in the filed.  相似文献

Summary Geotrichum candidum (isolate 1–9) pathogenic on citrus fruits, appears to lack siderophore production. Iron uptake byG. candidum is mediated by two distinct iron-regulated, energy-and temperature-dependent transport systems that require sulfhydryl groups. One system exhibits specificity for either ferric or ferrous iron, whereas the other exhibits specificity for ferrioxamine-B-mediated iron uptake and presumably other hydroxamate siderophores. Radioactive iron uptake from59FeCl3 showed an optimum at pH 6 and 35° C, and Michaelis-Menten kinetics (apparentK m = 3 m,V max = 0.054 nmol · mg–1 · min–1). The maximal rate of Fe2+ uptake was higher than Fe3+ (V max = 0.25 nmol · mg–1 · min–1) but theK m was identical. Reduction of ferric to ferrous iron prior to transport could not be detected. The ferrioxamine B system exhibits an optimum at pH 6 and 40° C and saturation kinetics (K m = 2 M,V max = 0.22 nmol · mg–1 · min–1). The two systems were distinguished as two separate entities by negative reciprocal competition, and on the basis of differential response to temperature and phenazine methosulfate. Mössbauer studies revealed that cells fed with either57FeCl3 or57FeCl2 accumulated unknown ferric and ferrous binding metabolites.  相似文献

The maximum quantum yields (a,c) for CO2 uptake in low-oxygen atmospheres were determined for 11 species of C3 vascular plants of diverse taxa, habitat and life form using an Ulbricht-sphere leaf chamber. Comparisons were also made between tissues of varied age within species. The species examined were Psilotum nudum (L.) P. Beauv., Davallia bullata Wall. ex Hook., Cycas revoluta Thunb., Araucaria heterophylla (Salisb.) Franco, Picea abies (L.) Karst., Nerium oleander L., Ruellia humilis Nutt., Pilea microphylla (L.) Karst., Beaucarnea stricta Lem., Oplismenus hirtellus (L.) P. Beauv. and Poa annua L. Quantum yields were calculated from the initial slopes of the response of CO2 uptake to the quantity of photons absorbed in conditions of diffuse lighting. Regression analysis of variance of the initial slopes of the response of CO2 uptake to photon absorption failed to show any statistically significant differences between age classes within species or between the mature photosynthetic organs of different species. The constancy of a,c was apparent despite marked variation in the light-saturated rates of CO2 uptake within and between species. The mean a,c was 0.093±0.003 for 11 species. By contrast, surface absorptance varied markedly between species from 0.90 to 0.60, producing proportional variation in the quantum yield calculated on an incidentlight basis. The ratio of variable to maximum fluorescence emission at 695 nm for the same tissues also failed to show any statistically significant variation between species, with a mean of 0.838±0.008. Mean values of a,c reported here for C3 species, in the absence of photorespiration, are higher than reported in previous surveys of vascular plants, but consistent with recent estimates of the quantum yields of O2 evolution.Abbreviations and Symbols A rate of CO2 uptake per unit projected area (mol · m–2 · s–1) - Fm the maximum fluorescence emission at 695 nm in saturating excitation light when closure of PSII reaction centres is maximal (relative units) - Fo the ground fluorescence at 695 nm when all PSII reaction centres are assumed open (relative units) - Fv the difference between Fm and Fo - JQ rate of CO2 uptake by the sample (nmol · s–1) - JQ rate of photon absorption by the sample (nmol · s–1) - Q absorbed photon flux per unit of projected area (nmol · m–2 · s–1) - 1 the light absorptance of photosynthetic organs (dimensionless) - s1 and s'1 the total and projected surface areas of the photosynthetic organs examined (m2) - a,c and i,c the quantum yields for CO2 uptake on an absorbed- and incident-light basis, respectively (dimensionless) - a,o the quantum yield for O2 evolution on an absorbed-light basis (dimensionless) This work was supported by grant PI7179-BIO, FWF, Austria to H.B-N. and by a British Council travel award to S.P.L. A modified Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) was used for the treatability studies of synthetic tapioca wastewaters. The RBC used was a four stage laboratory model and the discs were modified by attaching porous nechlon sheets to enhance biofilm area. Synthetic tapioca wastewaters were prepared with influent concentrations from 927 to 3600 mg/l of COD. Three hydraulic loads were used in the range of 0.03 to 0.09 m3·m–2·d–1 and the organic loads used were in the range of 28 to 306 g COD· m–2·d–1. The percentage COD removal were in the range from 97.4 to 68. RBC was operated at a rotating speed of 18 rpm which was found to be the optimal rotating speed. Biokinetic coefficients based on Kornegay and Hudson models were obtained using linear analysis. Summary Some environmental affects on cell aggregation described in the literature are briefly summarized. By means of a biomass recirculation culture (Contact system), using the yeast Torulopsis glabrata, the aggregation behavior of cells in static and in dynamic test systems is described. Sedimentation times required to obtain 50 g · l–1 yeast dry matter in static systems were always higher than in dynamic ones.In addition to, influencing the biomass yield, the specific growth rate of the yeast also affected cell aggregation. The specific growth rate and therefore the aggregation could be regulated by the biomass recirculation rate as well as by the sedimenter volume.Abbreviations fo Overflow flow rate (l·h–1) - fR Recycle flow rate (l·h–1) - ft0t Total flow rate through the fermenter (l·h–1) - g Gram - h Hour - DR Fermenter dilution rate due to recycle (h–1) - DS Fermeter dilution rate due to substrate (h–1) - Dtot Total fermenter dilution rate (h–1) - l Liter - Specific growth rate (h–1) - PF Fermenter productivity (g·l–1·h–1) - PFS Overall productivity (g·l–1·h–1) - RpM Rates per minute - RS Residual sugar content in the effluent with respect to the substrate concentration (%) - Y Yield of biomass with respect to sugar concentration (%) - Sed 50 Sedimentation time to reach a YDM of 50 g·l–1 (min) - V Volume (l) - VF Fermenter volume (l) - VSed Sedimenter volume (l) - VVM Volumes per volume and minute - XF YDM in the fermenter (g·l–1) - XF YDM in the recycle (g·l–1) - XS Yeast dry matter due to substrate concentration (g·l–1) - YDM Yeast dry matter (g·l–1)  相似文献

Summary Measurements of unidirectional calcium fluxes in stripped intestinal epithelium of the tilapia,Oreochromis mossambicus, in the presence of ouabain or in the absence of sodium indicated that calcium absorption via the fish intestine is sodium dependent. Active Ca2+ transport mechanisms in the enterocyte plasma membrane were analyzed. The maximum capacity of the ATP-dependent Ca2+ pump (V m :0.63 nmol·min–1 mg–1,K m : 27nm Ca2+) is calculated to be 2.17 nmol·min–1·mg–1, correcting for 29% inside-out oriented vesicles in the membrane preparation. The maximum capacity of the Na+/Ca2+ exchanger with high affinity for Ca2+ (V m :7.2 nmol·min–1·mg–1,K m : 181nm Ca2+) is calculated to be 13.6 nmol·min–1·mg–1, correcting for 53% resealed vesicles and assuming symmetrical behavior of the Na+/Ca2+ exchanger. The high affinity for Ca2+ and the sixfold higher capacity of the exchanger compared to the ATPase suggest strongly that the Na+/Ca2+ exchanger will contribute substantially to Ca2+ extrusion in the fish enterocyte. Further evidence for an important contribution of Na+/Ca2+ exchange to Ca2+ extrusion was obtained from studies in which the simultaneous operation of ATP-and Na+-gradient-driven Ca2+ pumps in inside-out vesicles was evaluated. The fish enterocyte appears to present a model for a Ca2+ transporting cell, in which Na+/Ca2+ exchange activity with high affinity for Ca2+ extrudes Ca2+ from the cell.  相似文献

In a randomly selected sample of 88 men and 115 women, aged 23–27 years from Denmark, maximal oxygen uptake ( O2max), maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVC) in four muscle groups and physical activity were studied. The O2max was 48.0 ml · min–1 kg–1 and 39.6 ml · min–1 · kg–1 for the men and the women, respectively. The MVC was 10% lower than in a comparable group of Danes of the same age and height studied 35 years ago. Only in men was sports activity directly related to O2max (ml · min–1 · kg–1; r=0.31, P<0.01). The MVC of the knee extensors was related to O2max in the men (r=0.31, P<0.01), but there was no relationship between the other measurements of MVC and O2max. In the women O2max (ml · min–1 · kg–1) was only related to body size, i.e. body mass index, percentage body fat and body mass [(r= –0.47, –0.48 (both P<0.001) and –0.34. (P<0.01), respectively)]. There were differences in O2max in the men, according to education and occupation. Blue collar workers and subjects attending vocational or trade schools in 1983 had lower O2max and more of them were physically inactive. In the women differences were also found, but there was no clear pattern among the groups. More of the women participated regularly in sports activity, but more of the men were very active compared to the women.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of low, moderate and high wet bulb globe temperatures (T wbg) on cardiovascular variables and ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) during moderately prolonged, high-intensity exercise. Six subjects [four men and two women; mean (SD) age, 22.0 (1.2) years; maximum oxygen consumption ({ie519-1}), 51.0 (8.4) ml · kg–1 · min–1] completed 30 min of exercise (80% {ie519-2}) on a cycle ergometer at low [14.7 (2.1)°C], moderate [21.0 (1.5)° C], and high [27.4 (2.3)° C]T wbg. Two additional subjects completed 20 min of exercise in the high temperature condition, but completed 30 min in the moderate and lowT wbg. Heart rate (f c), blood pressure, blood lactate (La), mean skin temperature ( sk), , and RPE were measured at 10, 20 and 30 min. Results showed thatf c, rate pressure product, RPE, pulmonary ventilation and ventilatory equivalent for oxygen increased (P < 0.05) across time for all conditions, while decreased across time. sk andf c were significantly greater across time in the high condition [35.9 (0.65)° C; 176 (12.6) beats · min–1] compared to the moderate [34.6 (1.5)° C; 170 (17.2) beats · min–1] and the low condition [31.7 (1.5)° C; 164 (17.1) beats-min–1]. However, there were no differences throughout exercise in RPE [high,.16.2 (2.0); moderate, 16.4 (2.2); low, 16.3 (1.9)] and across the conditions. These data suggest that RPE is closely related to metabolic intensity but is not a valid indicator of cardiovascular strain during exercise in highT wbg conditions.  相似文献
